Not a painting update although my Dreadnought should be finished this weekend but I'm not liking how it looks at the moment.

Today I realised I have less than two months before my tournament, I may only have a Defiler and a Chosen left to paint although there may be a few Thousand Sons I need to do as well.

But I'm at that stage where I'm getting rather nervous about playing again.....As I've mentioned before I've not played 40k since second addition, I've read the rules (once) and know my codex quite well. There is the issue of not being able to practice, due to work commitments I cant make it to the weekly clubs in my area.

So I'm going in right at the deep end with no experience under my belt and no idea about what I'm going to face as I dont have any of the other codexs. Tau, Sisters of Battle, Dark Eldar and Necrons weren't even around in my day and models had their own movement rates!

I'm going to try running a few skirmish games against myself to get a finer grip of the rules, sad I know but not much else I can do.

My tournament (if I get a place) is 1500 points and this is the list I'm looking to run at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to drop the Havoc champion to save a few points to bring it back in range.

Chaos Sorcerer 110
Warptime 25
Bolt of Change 25
Jump Pack 25
Mark of Tzeentch 30
215

Chosen 6 Men 108
4 Meltaguns 40
Power Sword 15
148

Thousand Sons 6 man squad 198
Wind of Chaos 30
228

Thousand Sons 6 man squad 198
Wind of Chaos 30
228

Chaos Raptors 5 man squad 100
Flamer 5
Champion 15
Power Fist 25
145

Chaos Havocs 5 man squad 75
Lascannon x2 70
Missile Launcher x2 40
Champion 15
Power Weapon 15
Plasma Pistol 15
145

Chaos Vindicator 125
Daemonic Possession 20
145

Chaos Defiler 150
Twin Linked Lascannon 20
170

Total 1509

I also have the following models which can be added if needed

Daemon Prince 110
175 Wings 20
Mark of Tzeentch 20
Bolt of Change 25

Chaos Dreadnought 90
105 Missle Launcher 0
Close Combat Arm 10
Heavy Flamer 5

If anyone can see any gaping holes please let me know, I had planned on joining the Chaos Sorcerer with the Raptors and using them to Deep Strike. The Chosen are my anti tank unit.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I just finished reading A Thousand Sons last night and didn't feel it was that great a novel unless of course I'm missing a sequel. There were a number of points that weren't answered in my view manly the fall of the legion and the Rubic spell. Are these covered in another book?

I've only read a few other 40k books Brothers of the Snake and Grey Knights which were an excellent read.

I think I might try Soul Hunter next although I have a lot of other books to read first.

Cool! I stopped for a bit to sort out a few real life issues. Now I'm getting back into the flow, and going through other peoples cool work really helps the creative juices going. Keep up the good work

Just took some pictures of my Thousand Sons dreadnought I finished last night, I wasn't very happy with it until the last moment and it suddenly pulled its self together.

No conversions as its not something I'm going for with the Thousand Sons, fluff wise I dont even think its possible to have a dreadnought for these guys any more, never mind.

I hope you like him, one thing I have noticed from the pics is I may need to darken the centre of the skulls eyes but I'll see what you all think first.

I've also started to paint my Necrodefiler, its looking really nice so far

edit: Oh looks like the warp is creaping into the picture on the right, a true sign of Chaos!

That's not a photoshop effect on the skull's eyes? They look great!

Thanks no its not photoshop they were painted like that, went for a kind of OSL effect not sure if I pulled it off but they do stand out.

Thanks tipios, I forgot to paint round the edge in black again to tidy the base up.

Nice job. I'm not certain about the yellow band... but it might grow on me... have to give it some time.

I wasn't either to start with but since I've added the rust stains it feels a lot better, I nearly did paint over them at one point but felt the dreadnought would look too much like an Ultramarine dread.

I'm hoping the yellow and blue bands will tie in with the Thousand Sons helmets.

In that case GiraffeX, you made the right decision. Great dread... O.K. so I'm just a sucker for dreads.... but that's a nice one! :-) You might add an additional chaos icon or two to the upper half of the dread... the wings make it look SO Imperial and there are so many skulls in standard Imperial iconography that it's not enough by itself to set it off as a traitor machine.

I thought I'd tease you with some work in progress shots tonight.

First up is a Slaanesh daemonette, I thought these would be easy I bought a box of wyches and some daemonette claw arms and was just going to glue them on, seems easy doesn't it. Well I didn't do my home work on the daemonette arms and didn't realise even after purchasing them that the shoulders are attached to the bodies, who would have thought that!

So I've had to do some major chopping and pinning with the arms in the box to bring the first daemonette to you. As a plus it means I have full control on the arm poses now, I just need to make another five and because of the thin arms the pins need to be really tiny which I'm not enjoying. I'll get there just have to do one a week or something like that.

Next up with have some what will be pink horrors, I've built three so far. I need to do some work on their backs with GS to fill some holes but with a lick of paint I think they will pass very nicely.

I saved the best for last some WIP shots of my Necrodefiler. I have some time off work over the next few weeks so will be spending a lot of it painting this beast up.

I hope you like it so far.

Your efforts with the daemonettes was well worth it. Nice idea for the horrors, where are the legs and arms from?

Thats a serious paint job going on there, good luck

A+ on all counts GiraffeX. Very nice work. You've done an excellent job taking the disparate bits and getting them to look right together on the demonette. That beast is going to be something really special.

Thanks Git's and ZephyrRey I'm planning on getting some more paint on the beast over the weekend, I'll post an update on Sunday.

I really struggled with what colour to do the body but I'm really happy with how it came out, the rest I have a plan for just need to pull it off.

I finished my Necrodefiler this morning, I thought it would take most of the week but it worked out a lot quicker than I expected.

Here's some pics for you there are a few more in my gellery as well if you are interested.

It wasnt easy to photograph, I hope you like the beast though.

Awesome piece of work...

It'd work great as a Thousand Sons defiler, but it lacks a bit of iconography for that to be fully possible...
