That stealth suit de-cloaking effect looks terrific. Very cool. (I'm biased as a Tau player, really).

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I agree with Iorek the stealth suit is amazing. The tunnel sniper was a close second for me though.

I liked the tunnel sniper the best. It's amazing how much detail was was packed into a 40mm base, and I think it best captured the theme.

However I must say the quality of entries is VERY high. Hunter Kroot, Banner Kroot and the de-cloaking Stealth Suit are all amazing too! ^^;

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

The quality of this is perhaps higher than the other challenges I have seen. Bravo and good luck.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

grey_death not that i think i'll win or anything but how do you choose to leave mine out due to no WIP pictures when the rest didnt have theirs either? To make matters worse restricting the image size and amount?

Well the rules did say you needed a WIP photo. They didn't say they'd be posted.

WIP Photos are not posted here. They are a requirement for entry though. All entries you see were coupled with WIP shots. Entries supplied without WIP shots have an email sent to the submitter requesting the WIP photo, should no WIP photo of the entry show up by the cutoff time and date, the entry is disqualified.

I'm pretty sure he only posted it after the polls opened.

I am holding off posting mine online as I do not want to skew the results. After the polls close, then I'll be starting a blog possibly...

Plus my photography really hurt my votes, as the model looks better in real life, than what I was able to shoot...

Well that's just it, The Dreadnote: the voting is supposed to be anonymous throughout. I don't think you can post or identify a mini as being yours until the competition has completely ended.

Yes, it did seem a little premature to me.

However it seems tunnel sniper is well on the way to victory anyway, so not much harm done.

yeah, I'm holding off posting mine/ saying which one is mine until the poll is closed (although it seems to have stalled out at 350 votes).

Either way, I agree with The Dreadnote... it looks like Tunnel Sniper has this one

I concur as well, however, the main reason I am not a fan of the tunnel sniper is that the base seems too busy for me. You lose the detail of the model and while it has some nicely painted sections, other parts seem cluttered and lost to me.

I am not trying to sound whiney or what not, it's just compositional wise, it feels too over the top. Just my own humble opinion. I was going to take a similar route with mine, but decided against it as I wanted the figure to be the main focus, not the base.

Well, you generally do want to get lost in the busyness of your surroundings if you're sniping from a tunnel's mouth.

I totally understand, but in a painting competition such as this I thought that one should focus more on the model than putting a ton of detail around the model in which the admiration of the model is lost due to it's surroundings.

I would have preferred to see the sniper himself rather than the base I guess is the point I am trying to get at. Again it's just my personal preference.

Tunnel Sniper FTW the detail is awesome

BTW Surely it could be seen that the the stealthsuit is in the process of cloaking?

Dakka has chosen it's newest champion.

And the Champion is...

Mephistoles1 with his amazing Tunnel Sniper!

The piece really tapped into the theme wonderfully and pulled off a convincing win!

To find out who painted what just check back in the original voting post as I've added the painters user name to each photo description.

Another fun challenge, with a great showing yet again by all you Dakkaites!

Thanks, as always, to everyone who participated and to everyone who voted and supports these Challenges. And a special thanks to Rogue-Market.com for sponsoring us this time around! Be sure you guys head over there and support them too!

Once again, congratulations to Mephistoles1 on his win!

Thanks for all the support and comments earlier in this thread! Really I just had an idea and it took a life of its own. I'm lucky this didn't turn into an entire complex of tunnels I was so giddy making the darn thing.

Chaplain Pallentide: I totally agree with you. When I was taking photos I was dismayed that I had to struggle to get the sniper into the picture at all. Every angle I shot(except the direct rear) only had a touch of his helmet, or the barrel of the rifle. I am glad Dakka liked it, but I agree that it turned more into the presentation of the entire concept rather than the sniper itself.

I usually only vote for my few favorites and this time I found myself voting for over half the entires! Kudos to all who entered and I was impressed by the amount of skilled entries.
