OK, now that I have the scale right I will start this thread to keep up with the progress on these bad boys.

This is a pic of the finished Kan, minus paint, and the remodeling of the Dread.

Very nice, I'm currently building some scratch built kans and dreads from some extra materials at the metal shop I work in. I know this has been asked and answered elsewhere on the site, but how tall did you make your kans, legs and all?

Nice work!

I'm concerned that they'll break off the base though, have you had any problems with that?

Good paint job on the kans, but they seem a bit... flat. Maybe some checker board patterns or warband identifying marks would liven them up.

I'm loving your Kanz! I'm not a fan of GW's Kanz and have been looking around for some scratchbuilt ones that I like and these are excellent! What did you use for the main body of the Kan?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

my wife had a tube of beads that looked right so I dumped em and looted it.

And now that I got it down I am probably gonna go buy her some beads so I can make 3 more Kans.

No issues yet with them breaking off the base. Putting the ground effects on the bases strengthened them too.

I must agree with you on that Affliktion. I was just trying to do something fast and simple. I just finished a 4th kan and I have 2 more to do then I will liven the paint job up on all of them a bit.

Thanks for the comments.

I love your leg design. Me and my ork playing buddy have always complained about the lack of usability of the GW dread and kan legs in any semblance of real world physics.

I might borrow your style when I start building my own. Great work!

All 6 kans are done now. Just got to paint em. I will show pics after the paint job.

Here is a pic of the start of one of the two Deff Dreads I am making.I plan on putting a third leg in the back of the dreads just like the kans that is why this leg is going forward. I plan to put a piston in the back of it as the mechanism that makes it move forward and back.

Pretty good. I recommend deepening the eye-slit or painting it a glowing red... also, isn't that krabby-looking Kan a bit small?

@Owain I am gonna be adding some paint to the Kans later so I think the red in the slot idea might work for me. I have seen some like that and they look too cylon for me but I shall give it a try.

As for the size, I am pretty sure I go the size right. I do not have a GW one to go by on hand but I ran a thread on it to make sure I got the size right before I started. The orc in the pic with the kan is actually a nob and I know that I have the kans on the right bases. If anyone else has any comments that might reassure me or show me that they are too small I would love to hear them.

Those legs are awesome. I think the kanz are a good size. They are piloted by grots after all.

Really awesome work on that dread!

The next set of killa kans. I tried to put some more color on em and I think it worked out ok.
I am gonna go back and add more color to the first set of kans later.

@Lunahound- the colors on the body are a mixture of blazing orange and bestial brown watered down and washed over black primer to get a rusted effect. Then I washed it again with black and then dry brushed with mithril silver. Gun metal would have been better I think but I did not have any. That is just the basic colors I gave the Dread. Simple but it worked for me.

Thanks for the comments folks.

I have decided to go ahead with the second deff dread.
I am gonna go with a chicken walker look for this one.
First leg almost done.
