Nice title rename for thread, made a great movie and showed the allies were also able to make mistakes, where other war movies made the allies out as infallible superheroes.
Had old propaganda fueled war movies been right, WWII would have ended by Christmas of '44!

Bridge is looking very sweet man!

A bridge is so much a great centerpiece for a gaming table, all the auto-narrative possibilities: going over, going under, crossing, denying, covering, exposing, defending, conquering, destroying, securing... Is it scratch or model railway?
btw childe, it's "Nijmegen", spoken more or less "Nay-may-rrrhen". But the "Bridge to far" was in Arnhem.

The seizing of bridges in that region under German occupation was very ambitious, Monty went past what his assets were ready for, had they moved XXX cops further up before the event it may have given an idea something was up, but then they may have arrived in time to relieve the paras at Arnhem.

Still the riveted steel beam bridge is very likeable for the center of a table!

Yes, I have a laser cutter with a 2 foot by 4 foot bed. And the US Post Office has started carrying "Board Game" sixed boxes. This means I can lay out "mega structures" AND ship them.

So I'm looking for terrain ideas that other people are not doing. I'm also looking at non-GW systems, as well as a line of "civilian" vehicles, to support scenario-based gaming.

--B.

(Note: The sides and roadbed of that bridge are single pieces. It is wide enough, and tall enough, to clear a Land Raider.

Nice work on the crash site.

Bridge looks good - good design, simple and effective to build with minimal parts - reckon you're onto a winner there Bri

Well, decently priced generic sci-fi or other genre scenery is always good, be they intact and or ruined buildings and other items.

And so, our reluctant hero brush-primes foam terrain, while spray-priming bits. A bevy of barrels and barriers sets to be added to the "Battlefield Junk Bin", for future encounters.

I have also started to try and sort out the mess that is my miniatures collection. Everything is in boxes. Most of these boxes are even labelled! But I have so much STUFF, that it is hard to concentrate on what truly needs to be done.

So, I get to pull everything out and inventory.

Won't that be fun?

I'm with you Brian. Just sooooo much stuff. It's been a struggle but I'm slowly cleaning house. Sold two armies, nearly done with another though unsure about ultimate disposition. Given away a lot of things as competition prizes too. Sat down and decided that I'd be painting those things that seemed the most fun and the heck with the rest... at least for a time.

Nasty business this hobbying...

Well, I can honestly say that the move on GW's part to 'limited edition' miniatures, as well as the giant robot/monstrous creature bashes have really put me off of 21st century 40K. My hopes of ever playing again are pretty damn dim.

So, that puts me into pure hobby mode, I guess.

Here's the next round of 'things I am painting, for reasons really unknown to me at this time."

The radar dishes are off of a 3D printer. Dunno where they came from, they just showed up during a cleanup at the makerspace. No one else wanted them, so I scooped them up!

Also, isn't it, like, 4am where you are?

My work here is done.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Let's jump on the Bandwagon!

--[ 2014 ]--

The year started out very well. I was employed, I had made MAJOR progress on my cityfight table, I was kitbashing a Thunderhawk Transporter, and things were great.

Then, all hell broke loose, and I slipped into a depressive state that I am only just now climbing out of. 2014 was a lost year.

But, let's note what I got done, shall we?

Cityfight Table to 75% The GW buildings need detail work done, and the Necromunda terrain needs some plastic bitz added for support and finishing touches.
Thunderhawk Transporter 50% done. This poor beast has had the crap kicked out of it, and needs a lot of repairs and upgrades.
Stormraven Chapterhouse conversion 50% done. Same abuse, needs work, paint, love.
Painted a lot of horses.
Learned digital fabrication (Vinyl Cutter, Laser Cutter, 3D Printing).
Bought a fresh copy of the original Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader for inspiration.
Started tackling my depression head-on.

Annnnd what went wrong.

Lost my 40K group to apathy.
Arse-fethed by the Imperial Guard Codex (more on how much this hurt in a later post).
Got excited by 7th edition, only to be taken down by the direction of GW (Kaiju fighting over limited edition miniatures).

--[ 2015 ]--

So, what's in store for 2015, in terms of gaming? Well, aside from continuing to climb back into the light, we've already:

Started the groundwork for a new tabletop miniatures group.
Bought into X-Wing.
Painted a skirmish group of bugs.
Painted two tree stands.
Painted a crashed aquila lander.
Started the work on a new themed terrain/scenario table.
Started a pile of other small terrain projects.

I want to start a scenario/narrative-based website with forums, to support my view of the tabletop hobby. There's already tons of sites dedicated to competitive wargaming. The other side needs representation. It will be called 'The Iron Road".

I want to get a tabletop wargaming group started locally. I will need to advertise in game stores, and on Dakka, for like-minded folks.

I want to paint a miniature a day, and clear my massive backlog.

I want to purge my 40K stuff down to what I truly care about. This means eBay and trading.

I want to PLAY GAMES. This is very important.

One third of a new table. Still need to flock and detail the ground of the foam sections, and build the bridge supports.

I am learning how to use the makerspace's woodshop. My success criteria: Walking out every time with all 10 fingers.

While this table was built for Model Railroading, it is a folding 4x6 table, which is the perfect portable gaming table, and can be stored under a bed, etc. It cost me $50 USD to build, and about 8 hours of time, total.

Materials list:

4 8' 2x3 boards
1 4'x8' 15/32nd thick plywood
3 Hinges
1 Handle
#2 1" zinc wood screws
Wood glue

If wanted, I'll write an article about it. Thoughts?

Not where I should be

Looks great. Nice size.

Couple ideas/suggestions/questions to throw at you...

Why not MDF (masonite)? Same properties but smoother finish. For the surfaces.

Could make it in different sizes, 3ft x 3ft. upwards. I believe people play Deadzone, infinity, Starwars on at little as 2 x 2.

What about making a lining to actually carry your army/team/models in the table itself, kind of a portable battle game all in one?

These are just thoughts, it looks brilliant as is, and I definately think you should share it in an article for people to see.
