Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

Someone linked a picture of a deffkopta turned into a rokkit buggy: http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/?showtopic=43927

I'd like to make some of these, but I come up blank for "plastic tubing." I see plasti-card referred to in various places as well....

Could someone shine some light on what's being talked about here? Where do I get that stuff? Thanks.

You want some of this stuff. I'd approximate around 1/8th to 1/14" for the axles.

Also, here is some sheet styrene.

Is that sheet styrene what most folks use for modeling?

Some version of it, yeah. There's a hobby shop nearby me (most R/C cars, trains, that sort of thing) and they sell tons of great stuff like this, so that's where I get my materials. This website looks solid, though it might be trying to sell you more than you need for the job.

May I suggest using the current ork wheels instead of the old/SM bike wheels?

BTW, thanks for that link. Much idea theft will be happening.

or use wooden dowel which is much cheaper.

you can also use pencils, etc. - no need to buy anything fancy.

Converted this from the GW buggy kit with some Orks for crew, and some springs from a few pens.

I'm the one who linked those I think, and I've got a sort of on-topic question:
What's a good source for wheels?

Trukk wheels seem like a bad idea (checked bits order @ thewarstore and they sell the trukk wheels together with the chasis making it a bit unattractive when all I want is the wheels), Battlewagon wheels seemed more reasonable but then I'm not sure if the scale is right (waiting on my battlewagons to arrive from Maelstrom).

Any - cheap - non-gw sources?

I'm with Number 9 - if anyone knows where to get good cheap wheels in the right scale, I'd love to know. I've been scoping out drugstore toys, but no luck with good ones.

Look at the cheap toys ( a few bucks for a set, that stuff). Ther'll be plenty of crap inside as well, but ther's always good wheels in there. best sources: agricultural vehicles, buggies, and trucks; these tend to have more detailed wheels, so they'll fit in better.

Perhaps not cheap, but:

Check other bits sites for possibly better deals, of course.

Also, I am stealing the Deffkopta idea. That is brilliant and simple.

I bought the FW half trakk trukk - which comes with its own wheels - effectively giving me 6 spare. It and the enclosed cab trukk also come with their own engines - meaning I have two spare trukk engines for doing buggy conversions at some point... Oh - I have also magnetised my wheels - which while helpful in game (remove one for stunned, many for immobilised, all for wrecked, place all in a crater shaped arrangement for exploded - got a good reaction from my opponent with that!) will also be used for "red paint job" (I'll do a set with red rims/hub caps) and also cover for spares for buggies (assuming I don't try to take "all" of my vehicles in one game...)
