Yes - I have three particularly inquisitive cats and a soon-to-be toddler so I quickly learnt the value of having a securable and private space! Luckily enough, we have a spare room that I have commandeered and turned into my games room complete with lockable door.

My cat is fortunately great about never messing with my game-room. I guess it understands that she has the run of the rest of the house, and I get my own room.

I find a quick spray with a small water bottle, you know the sort of thing windex comes in (note I don't spray the cats with windex!). They're usually quite obedient. And two of our cats sit with me on the other chair. I usually spray outside though guys...!

The question with cats though is: do they count as having rending claws and/or do you give them any special rules while gaming?
Anyway, this is my workspace. I have a fold down desk in the corner of my room. Suffice to say it's rarely folded up...

I have a desk for modelling at but its coverd in all sorts of junk so i use a piece of chipboard on my lap and sit on the sofa. This allows me to get decant light as we have floor to ceiling south facing windows there. All my paints live in a Gw figure case and my tools go into a toolbox. all my spraying goes on in a well ventilated lean to, when im glueing i work with all the windows open.

I paint at work. Worst I get is the random person picking up a wet mini. I find the cure for this is grabbing them and forcably painting their nails. My record is 3 guys walking around with one hands nails painted Boltgun Metal.

I paint in my garage. I have a radio which can plug into my iPod so I can listen to some of my favorite songs. Plus I'm pretty much the only one who uses it so I'm never disturbed.

I live on a houseboat and it can be a little cramped for space, but as I'm single at the moment I'm using the small bedroom and turned the master into my workshop. And the rest of the room is pretty much just as cluttered - I can't be creative in a nice tidy area
Just have to make sure I only hook up with extremely understanding partners now.

I paint in my room using my window-sill as a desk.
Failing that, it's the dining room table or sitting on my bed using a tray.
Regarding the pet and others issue, my dog molts like crazy, so hair is commonplace on my minis.
People - my relatives like to pick up my minis just as I finish appliying the last coat, so I put whatever is on my brush on their hands. I have superglued static grass to my dads hand. About 90% of his hand was green and fuzzy, and he had to go to work like it.

i am very lucky i have garden studio that i can use for just hobby activities. Its large enough to have a 10ft x 4ft gaming table along with my painting desk. The only things i share the space with are the air con unit, tumble drier and the occasional feline visitor. On most occasion the cats dont mess with my model, they just sleep on the spare chair on the floor next to me.

Yeah I am fortunate that my wife hasn't laid claim to any of the space: I have two 6'x4' tables and two 8'x4' tables which works out nice when I have a group of friends over to play as no one has to wait for a table to play usually, or we can put them together for big Apoc games, etc.
I need to add some decent display cases for miniatures, and I have plans to seal the floor to cut down on dust. I have a dehumdifier hardwired in that keeps things comfortable as well.
Need to get a dorm fridge perhaps...

I have an evil cat. When I lived in an apartment she would get on top of the entertainment center where the glue was drying on my minis. She would walk over to them, look at me, meow and then knock one off the shelf. Meow, knock, meow, knock, meow, knock till every model was off the shelf. She would hurry up and knock all them off when see would see me getting up.
