Hello all.

I was inspired to create an ork fighta/bomma because of VODSKI's great work.
I started with a 1/48 Airfix model of a messerschmidt (BF109-F, for history buffs). I got it for £10.99 at HobbyCraft, which for 1?48 I gather is quite cheap.

Anyway, I've started to build the pilot for the fighta.

Right Okay, I've had a problem with propulsion.

I've made the nose a grill out of the trukk radiator, like the forge world one, but I thought that a grill on the front would house a jet engine.

I need some help from people who know aeroplanes and/or have the forge world fighta bomma

1. What propulsion does the FW fighta bomma use?
2. Is the radiator there for a reason?

3. Can a plane have a radiator grill in front of a jet engine?

Hiya mate,

That is looking the dogs danglies at the moment !

I'm gonna use that grill on the front of one of my koptaz (blatently 'borrowed' from a profile pic i've seen on dakka)

To answer your above question I say even if the radiator serves no purpose 'it LUKS MEAN and dats wot orcs like', as for propulsion it could be powered by elastic bands for all orcs care aslong as it moves.

Sorry if I was no help, I just imagine orcs having the Scrapheap Challenge attitude to building things!

Okay, basically finished te body-work.

I've hacked off the curvy ends of the wings and tail-plane to make it more orky.

Soon I need to start putting card plates (I've not got any plasti-card, WHERE DO BRITS GET IT?) on it , as well as guns.

What weapons have fighta bommas got/ I'm going to have two fuselage mounted shootas, and I have collected rockits from SMs and the nobs' combi weapons.

So, a look at the project so far....

I apologise to anyone who interacted with me around 2009-2012.

If you do not care if it is super thick you can use "For Sale" signs that you can pick up at dollar and DIY stores for cheap. It is thin, cheap and easy to work with. If you mess it up then it is a quick trip to the store and you right back to work. It is all I use unless I need plastic rods or special shapes.

That's useful to know, thanks. I've had real trouble trying to find it in hobby and craft shops, so I think I will have to find a specialist model shop, or go online.

Anybody got Any ideas of how to arm a fighta bomma?

I find it very difficult to understand how you can't find plasticard in Britain: I live in Australia, Perth no less (perhaps the most geographically isolated city in the world ), and It is stocked at most major hobby centres.

Specifically, look for centres stocking trains and train-scenery, or alternatively, architectural model supplies.

With the architectural model suppliers you should not only be able to find standard card, but also corrugated card, as well as numerous shapes and sizes of rods that can be particularly orkish, including 'I'-Beams and 'T'-Bars, as well as simple trusses and frames.

I urge you to try online before you dive into using cardboard!!!!

Hope I've helped.....?

Edit: btw, looking great so far, the 1:48 scale models are suitably sized, and I'm dying to see how it turns out. Go with the radiator grill too imo, da mek musta had a gud reasun ta put it dere!

Hello, going to buy some plasticard this afternoon- need to wash a car for funding first though

Okay update. I've put on some card, C+C please
Found some old airfix bombs and riggers
I've made a mock up of the guns and cowlings
I've also posted a pic of the card I'm using (with the AoBR boy) to show the texture. Due to carwashing and shopping, I may not post until tomorrow.

Cyas.

PS. I can't get plasticaard easily 'cause I'm a rural.

I would stick a jet engine in the nose of the plane angled to come out the bottom, basically make it look like it is tucked right to the nose and finishes sticking out just under the cockpit.

Also you may want to scrape the fine details off your original model, they look a little too well made for orks.

A fighta has a twin linked nose mounted big shoota and a wing mounted twin linked big shoot. Also you can have either two bombs or two missiles. A fighta-bomma is a lot better do to the amount of weapons v points. Since the wings are thin you could under sling a big shoota under each wing. Another idea is to get ahold of two IG tank heavy stubbers, cut the barrels off, drill holes in the fron of the wing and mount the barrels in there.

A fighta-bomma has tl nose mounted big shoota, tl wing mounted big shoota, a turret mounted tl big shoota, two super rockkits or two burna bombs, and 8 bombs. All for 210 points.

Next if you are going to install clear plastic cockpit cover paint first and then put the glass in. When you do just use plain Elmers or PVA glue since super glue or plastic glue will release fumes and fog up the the plastic ruining the cockpit.

You should be able to get the "for sale" signs at any supermarket, diy or hardware store no matter how if you are in the city or country. It is an item that is pretty universal because some one is always selling something.

The only thing I wanted to say was that I think it would have looked awesome if you put the engine popping out of the top of the plane. Woulda looked cool, and gone with the flow considering its an orky thing to do.
As for everything being able to work, I dont think it matters where you put anything on the plane and wether it would work in real life, considering its 40k years in the future. Theyve probally come up with stuff to deal with that, and, hell, its a model, it doesnt have to be exact.
Overall, Great job!

loving the weapons mounted ahead of the cockpit.

Reminds me of the old ww1 planes with the machine guns firing though the propeller.

Maybe a crude orkish iron-sights crosshair or scope would be appropriate running infront of the cockpit?

I agree, a crosshair would be so cool on this. Very Orkish too.

Yes the weapons look fine there. You can attempt to make a cowling that flares to the rear. Also you could recess the guns a bit into the gun or have the ammo flowing from the fighta to the guns.

Hi Dakka.

Right, where to begin?

As you can see, I've added lots of 'ard platin' to the fuselage, and some less 'ard platin' to the wings and tail fins.

Esteemed experts of Dakka ( ) Is it enough?
C+C compulsory with each post!

Notice also a pair of exhausts at the rear.

Thank you Arakasi, I've already looked on Antenociti's for plasticard, but I wanted to buy it in store the first time, because I find all of the measurements confusing, but I shall probably use i in the future.

If you've found a plasticard supplier, you should be able to get plastic rods as well. I use 1mm diameter plastic rod inserted into pre-drilled holes and cut them off once they're glued for rivets.

Also, I'm glad to hear you're going with the crosshair .

Edit: The tail section looks great. Perhaps add more textured plates if possible or grills and the like elsewhere on the plane.
