Here's my scouts, using the camo scheme I mentioned in another thread. I am not a top notch photographer, so tips are nice on both my photography and my scouts.

Your scheme works well but I would give the weapons and armor a light wash with black. It will add depth to them.

Photography: I'd advise you to not use a flash. Also, if you put your minis next to a white wall or in front of a white piece of paper it will make it easier for your camera to focus on them.

Painting: What primer did you use? It looks as if you've painted straight onto plastic, especially judging by the orks in the background. Other than that your scouts look good, I'd advise you to vary the colouring on some objects like the heavy bolter, maybe by the use of some washes. You seem to have done quite well on the faces, so kudos to you for that. Also, shading some areas where ther is just flat colour (backpack area and shoulder pads) will give it a more appealing and interesting look.

Hope that alll helps, sorry about the small wall of text

Thanks. I actually have not used flash in any of those pictures; the ones I did use flash on were pretty bad.

I primed them with Armory spray primer. It's a medium gray and it is what I prime everything with. What makes it look like they're painted onto flat plastic?

Shading the flat bits is difficult. I did attempt a lighter gray dry brushing that does show in some shots, particularly around the apex of the shoulders and the angular bit on the backpack. It doesnt' do so well.

Guns I'm not decided on. I think I agree that a flat black wash would do them some good. The Cayman green that the guns are is a btter looking green to me than the Camoflauge green of their fatigues, and I sort of stopped and considered using that color for the cloth. Ended up moving on and more or less leaving the guns unfinished until I figure out what color I'm using for the lower parts. The chest eagle is khaki; maybe that'd be a good lower and keep with the theme, though the slings are also khaki.

I think the colors are a bit too dull for a flat paint job TBH but some washes/highlights could possibly take them pretty far.

The top one has a flash, does it not?

I guess the colour of the primer made it seem like flat plastic. I do like the Heavy Bolter guy, he's quite awesome

Ah yes, the top one -does- use flash; I forgot I posted that one.

Trying some shading now - when it's all done I'll try putting something behind the models.

Ok so I redid them a little while ago but some net issues kept me from posting the pictures.

Armor is darker; I replaced the crappy drybrush highlight with an outline. Cloth is also darker; I replaced Vallejo "Camouflage Green" with "Yellow Olive". Much more like a uniform I think.
