Hey all. Taking a break from my Scottish Imperial Guard, I have decided to branch out just a tad. Here is my fully converted Emperor. As you can all probably tell, he is based on the Marneus Calgar model. He is probably a bit smaller then would have been in reality, but I cannot sculpt whole mini's and this is probably the closest model that can do it justice. If you have any questions about what other components I used, just ask. Let me know what you think.

Probably the closest, yeah, but I hold that he looks awkward. His head is like in the middle of his chest.

No offense to your painting/modelling, very nice, it's just the haircut, and the hunchback look.

The hunchback look comes from wearing Terminator armour. All Terminators look like that. The hair looks pretty accurate to me, compared with pictures I have seen of the Emperor.

What would you to do instead?

Yeah, just some minor kinks to work out with modelling practice, and he'll look just right. Paintjob could use some work too. The head is perfect though, looks just like most pictures of him.

I really like the choice of bits you used, though the fingers on the power claw look a little off. As I recall, they are somewhat sharp in all of the picture reference I've seen. I think that bringing them to sharp points would really set it off. Also, the gold paint looks like it's flaking or heavily textured. Did you thin the paint before you put it on?

It looks pretty good, but remember the Emperor did not have Terminator armor.

I thought he wore terminator armour for the final fight with Horus? I thought that was the armour that was later broken up into small pieces and put in the Crux Terminatus shoulder pads for all of the terminator armour that followed.

Nope, it was just plain old power armour.

I like it, he looks extremely manic (crazy eyes!).
His one hand looks like the fingers are made from bits of plastic fork, but the rest is awesome.

Also, the Emperor's symbol is the Lightning Bolt... not the Eagle Wing like you have on him.

Thanks too the one guy who actually made a decent constructive point. To answer all the other people who have made it their apparent job to nit pick everything:
1) If you read the Horus Heresy series, he wears both Terminator and Power armour depending on what he is doing
2) The armouri s not flaking, its the light
3) I dont give a **** what his symbol is, i prefer eagle wings...
After all, this is MY take on the Emperor, so if you could leave off with the comments about what HE should have, then that would be appreciated. Thanks for the constructive ones

EDIT- Sorry if I come off as rude, I think this model is pretty damn good, personally. The painting is particularly pleasing, and conversion work is well done and cohesive.

to be honest i think there are some things i don´t like about your model.

BUT

i think since you probably worked for hours on this model i think you deserve respect.
and the somewhat harsh critics people offer are not needed. i full am with you that this is your interpretation of the emperor.

if we would just all paint like the artist in some pics showed us then this hobby wouldn´t have the slightest bit of originality. i think this hobby lives from the different takes on a subject.

if i am mistaken then i humbly will spend the rest of my days painting ultras like a massproducing factory...

Viktor von Domm seems to have summed it up very well! Thanks. I really appreciate constructive criticism. I know that this may not be everyones idea of what the Emperor may have lookedl ike, I am also aware that it might not fit in with all the fluff that GW puts out. Also, my painting may not be up to everone standards.
But I love it and thats what matters

There is some really great modelling going on here. Considering my GS skills are on par with a very slow monkeys, this kind of converting always impresses me.

The only thing really letting the pics down is the gold, which you said is due to lighting. The stippling effect is drawing the eye away from the detail you have put in as it is pretty overpowering. Maybe try fiddling with camera and lighting settings to stop the stippled gold effect? It is just a bit of a shame to detract from a well converted model as we can only go by the photo's.

Ye it makes it look as if the paint is peeling. Which it is not. The other thing is that the model was originally painted to be Marneus Calgar, and i stripped the old paint off it. THis might have given the model a rougher look. Will have a fiddle with the lighting next time

As to your GS skills, dont worry, the only thing that i sculpted was the cloaks fur trim! The rest is other bitz!

I think the main problem is the gold paint. Not that you did a bad job, its just gold paint is a real bitch to put on without it looking like half a bottles worth. I havnt tried it, but there are a few tutorials on DAKKA on how to paint metals with out using metalic paint. Ive seen a few sanguine guard that look the gak and they didnt use any gold paint, it was all yellows and the like. Just a thought.

As far as the mini itself I think it looks pretty close to pics Ive seen of the Emperor. You should be proud of that mini man, dont let the jerks in DAKKA get you down. Infact I bet half the ones bashing your work, dont even have their stuff posted. And the probably half of the other half, will be worse then what your work is Thats the problem with posting things on the internet man. No matter HOW AWESOME you do, people will tell you how bad it is. My fav is posting your work, with a WIP on it, and people will tell you time and time again, even some will PM you telling you that you havnt finished it, or it looks unfinished. Annoying

cheers KingCracker, really nice post mate. I did think about non-mettalic, but I have no experience in it and I didnt want to try it first time on this mini and ye i hate painting gold! with a vengeance!
