Hey guys,
So this is basically my first attempt at painting anything towards some semblance of completion. I still need to put some finishing touches to the nails, eyes and vines around the arms. I also need to finish the weapon off properly. I'll update with the finished product once i've put those little details to bed.
Apologies for the crappy photo quality - i'm still finding my feet with my camera settings, I may replace these with better quality images as I progress.

An excellent start - you have the fundamentals down nicely, which is to say, your painting is neat and tidy. You'd be surprised at how many fail to grasp that. I think you should start to look next and washing and highlighting. Some simple shading and basic highlights will really make the model 'pop' and for little effort.

For a first attempt, it's pretty good (could use better pictures, though)!
Defintely can see that you've got a feel for the basics of shading/highlighting down. If you haven't already, I would seriously consider investing in the GW wash set as a wash of Devlan Mud could probably do wonders with what you have so far.
Keep at it!

Really looks like a troll that has been living underwater for a long time! Good choice of colors.
As people have been saying so far you got all the basics down, and the essential tidyness. Now just keep practicing and always try new techniques.

Having seen these in reality, the photos are indeed letting them down! Hopefully we can get better ones later.
Yaymez has had the fastest improvement I have ever seen in model painting, so I am really looking forward to seeing him progress as he continues. A wash on parts of this is a very good next step alright, and maybe some drybrushing on the rock axe.
Can't wait to see it finished

This is a nice troll. If you see what I mean. Lovely use of the different greens. I can see some good touches of shading. Am going to buck the trend here and not worry too much about washes as there is plenty of definition already. Would be selective about it, but Ifalna has had a look at them in the flesh so is better placed to advise so am not going to argue. I am liking the new GW river trolls - me want! There is an aquatic look to the troll, well done and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback guys
They are actually really nice models, they have some excellent combination choices, aside from specific legs for each torso there are about 3 - 4 different arm and head choices. This guy in the pics above actually has some rather fetching vomit that i am in the process of painting. I'm going to upload them over my weekend and hopefully upgrade the photos i put in originally as the quality on the image is atrocious.
I'll be painting up the other two trolls as they come in sets of three. Next i'm really considering getting an autumnal look going, lots of browns and muddy oranges. The third one, i'm not too sure on. I don't want to go for blue as everyone seems to use those colour schemes. A red/orange might look quite funky. Any thoughts and suggestions on colour schemes for the next couple i paint?

I agree with Chibi, the shading looks very well done, but it does look like you could use some more highlighting. Could just be the photo quality but they look a little flat in that regard.
Other than that, very nice work.

very good! an excellent go for a first attempt. I like the sound of an autumn looking one. For the third what about a dark grey/sea cliff look with a tide mark/sea weed or something to make it stand out as an aquatic troll rather than it looking like a stone troll?

Finally managed to mess around with the camera a little more now, so here is where i'm currently at with the figure. I've primed the 'vomit' piece and that is ready to go as soon as i've touched up the teeth a little more.

Nicely done! really love it. Although if it were me, I would try adding one wash just to break the overall greenness a bit (maybe a brown or chestnut wash that's diluted in water) and to look more realistic. But it looks fine the way it is.

WOW, really good mate
It's a little too green (not enough variation among the greens, I mean), but the lowlighting makes up for it. Great start!

Great job! I really like what you did with the grass "skirt". Good color change. The yellow tone stands out nicely.
Also, I really like the greens... the colors give an algal effect that works well with the river origin of the beastie.
One suggestion: Maybe do a slight lick of a highlight on the light green scales. A thin bright highlight would make them look shiny. Just a thought.
Again, excellent work on this guy!

Great job!! The new River Trolls are sexy as is; don't lock in solely in Orc & Goblins "colors". They are river troll use color that you would find near or by a river, lake, loch or other fresh body of water. It’s a great looking River Troll!
