So I took a break from building Fellblades to work on a commission of a Mk1 Land Raider. The customer had purchased the Forgeworld MkII Land Raider upgrade kit but wanted it in an older style. He asked if I could build it using the new Land Raider body but incorporate my Liberator Pattern 1.0s wrapping them all the way around. Always up for a challenge here's what I put together:
As warned working with the Forgeworld kit was a pain in the @$$ as nothing on the body seemed to fit together right. The sponsons were thankfully less of a hassle. But in the end it worked out and looks pretty good.
The treads where a bit more difficult. As they are quite a bit longer than the standard LR treads I had to widen the radius at the very front of the track unit so that they wrapped around properly. This was done by adding a couple of plastic strips that added about 1/8 of an inch thickness around the track front. I then chopped off the raised edge along the top of the track unit and raised it up about a 1/4 of an inch making a continous path for the treads.
I then rounded off the sharp edges and began putting on the treads and after some adjusting I actually got them all to fit (40 on each side). Finally it was patched and cleaned up. I also added some 0.35 inch rivets to blend toegther the new with the old.
So now it's off to it's new home. Hopefully the owner will continue this thread and post pics of it painted up.
Overall a fairly quick and fun project.

I approve - very nice, and gives a more "authentic" RT land raider feel - good work!

Looks great dude! I never knew that kit had a place to put doors. FW should take better pictures!
How was the kit? Was there any warpage?

Thanks everyone
Yeah the Elastic Band of Righteousness is holding the two sides together. I left it open so the customer can paint the inside if he wants. Maybe if he keep it on he can reroll a Destroyed result
The kit itself is not user friendly. The top and engine plates weren't even wide enough to fit correctly (could be a shrinkage issue) and it was warped a bit. However, I was fairly impressed with the sponsons and weapons. Once cleaned up they went together very nicely but I am perplexed about the doors. They're too small for the standard Land Raider door but a Rhino door won't fit into them either. The kit didn't come with any so I don't know what you're suppose to use.

I have a FW MKIIB Land Raider and you're meant to get some FW Rhino doors with it, those fit the side doors pretty well. You're meant to get them with the kit though. I know that regular Land Raider doors don't fit though, the door enclosures are smaller than a MKIII.
I know what you mean about shrinkage though, some of the panels (mainly the engine plate and the top hull cover) were too small. Thankfully I managed to get them connected somehow, just need to GS up the gaps it leaves. Nice conversion too, the tracks look great.

Wow that is fantastic. IMO, it is even better than the original because of the fact that it can be incorporated into a newer style army and works well with th ecurrent land raider lineup. Were you commissioned to paint it also?
on an unrelated note, I will be purchasing your tank package off of ebay sometime this month. I was wondering with the tank treads that are included (80) is that enough for the entire track portion on the fellblade (visible portion)?

Thanks Element. No I was just comissioned to build it, it's off to the customer now for paint. If he sends me some pics of it I'll post them here.
Yes, the 80 is enough to replace the current Baneblade treads plus some (the Imperial Fist Fellblade used about 35 per side). If you want to go all the way around you'll need a third pack.

What's the rear armor value of tiny boxes with "bandwidth exceeded" in them? I need to know if upgrading my Death Guard Terminators to Chainfists is worth the cost.

I'm guessing it has an AV of 20 and is immune to melta weapons. Had to upgrade to Pro Bucket (ugh...). So the ransom was paid but it may take some time for my hostages to be released. Stay tuned folks....

Wow, that is some awesome work! But seeing your pics is almost like salt in a self-inflicted wound. I need a Land Raider and I keep putting my time, effort, and $$$ into making more Plague Marines. I'm going to wind up playing APOC with infantry only. But I digress... impressive work and well done! Any chance of a project blog to date?

Hi, as for your title, I have an old Mk-I hull, and so this beauty that you have made I would class as the Mk-I.5 as it is still lower, and longer than the old Mk-I Landraider. This in my mind makes a great "Missing link" between that old plastic kit and the FW made Mk-II Landraider. It is excellent, and I would love to know how you made the casts for the older pattern treads that go all the way around like the Mk-I treads.
