I'm guessing either the plastic Trygon or Daemon Prince will snatch up the "Best Plastic" award. I would nominate The First Heretic for the best BL book of this year.

And by viable I mean not suck.

Trygon == Best GW Plastic.

Nerdlord II == Best non-GW metal

Best non-GW Plastic
Too many to mention, between Mantics, the Perry Brothers and some of the new WW2 ranges. it has been an awesome year for polystyrene wargaming.

Best GW rulebook
They are all terrible in terms of layout and useability. I suppose SW has been best in terms of Power Creep, though maybe it is too early to tell about Deldar.

My fondest hope for next year?
A really decent Tau codex supported by some nice new models, but I won't hold my breath.

My worst fear
A half-baked Tau codex which becomes obsolete in 18 months.

Thing I am Most Looking Forwards Too
SUPER DUNGEON EXPLORE

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Hrm, didn't buy any this year. That might be a first.

Best GW plastic miniature?

Didn't buy them but these guys win hands down. Probably the best marines GW has yet made (but for the oversized wrist guns spoiling the look)

Worst?

Not released yet but a guaranteed joke for years to come.

Best metal miniature by another company?

I was going to name her

But it turns out she's from '08. Guess I'm further behind on my painting than I thought. How about this happy fellow then?

Worst?

Reaper tends to be on both ends of this category so I gotta go with this

Best plastic miniature by another company?

Well I have 5 boxes of these on my table so I gotta go with...

Worst?

Well since WGF amazons aren't out I can't vote for them... Pass.

Best GW rule book?

I'll extend this catagory to include FFG and nominate Dark Heresy Ascention, any book with Vindicare Assassins and Primus Psykers is aces in my book.

Worst?

Codex Blood, Blood, Blood, Blood, Blood, Blood, Blood. Just for the names alone.

Best GW/BL fluff book?

Geeze have I liked any this year? I still haven't read Blood Pact but y'know I'd bet it'll still be better than the ones I did read.

Worst?

Tough call between these two

But have to go with Rynn's World because I actually wanted it to be good. I got both of them for free and they weren't worth the time to read or the shelf space to keep when I was done.

Your fondest hope for 2011?
That Inquisitions forces will be viable even without Shiny Space Marines

Your greatest fear?

No one in Trinidad to play with.

Agree with the nomination for the Sanguinary Guard.

In the same vein, my personal favourite GW metal mini has to be the Sanguinor.

Favourite Non-GW plastics? Something from Mantic I feel. I think their whole range has been a breath of fresh air.

Best GW metal miniature?

Lelith Hesperax

Worst?

In terms of gameplay, Kor'sarro Khan (was that this year?) - Really, you put out the biker special character... on foot.
In terms of aesthetics, (also, were they this year?)

Best GW plastic miniature?

For concept, I'd go with the trygon, but the ones I made didn't go together well, so I'll nominate the Raveners instead, which went together much better, as well as supporting all the options for the unit.

Worst?

Plastic Minotaurs? No, my vote is going to the plastic Seekers. Horrible, static, slow, plodding looking things with none of the grace or elegance that the Diaz models had.

Best GW rule book?

Hard to tell. I don't really play fantasy, so just considering the 40k releases, we had Dark Eldar, Blood Angels, and Tyranids this year. Dark Eldar, I haven't played a game with or against yet, so it's too easy to tell. Blood angels seem okay, but they're just another MEQ dex. So that leaves Tyranids. Which, taken alone, is a good codex. No one unit jumps out at you with a 'must take' feeling. They overused the Elites slot some, but that's probably the worst sin. It's an army with some notable (and exploitable) weaknesses, but also some good strengths to build on - the mark of a good codex.

Worst?
And yet, it has to exist in a metagame that's typically 33% spacewolves, with spammed missiles that easily wound the big bugs and instant-kill the midsized bugs. As well as Jaws, that absolutely rape the big bugs. I'd have liked to have seen what the Nid codex would allow without the Wolves dominance of the metagame (at least in my area).

Your fondest hope for 2011?

That Dark Eldar can shake up the metagame so that local tournaments aren't a third (or more) Space Wolves.

Your greatest fear?

That they won't... And I'll stop having the desire to go to the tournaments as a result.

Worst?
The Pyrovore-"here I am, walking forwards!!!...that's it."

Best GW plastic miniature?
Contenders were the River trolls and Sanguinary guard, but in the end I have to give this to the new Death company.

Worst?
Actually, I can't think of a single GW plastic this year I've actually disliked. But, if I had to pick, I'd say the 'new' basilisk for...not being new.

(I ignored the other company awards for the simple fact I haven't been following them this year.)

Best GW rule book?
The new WHFB rulebook; expensive, but very very well done.

Worst?
Again, difficult to pick one. But I'd have to say Blood angels for sometimes going from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Best GW/BL fluff book?
Easy-Soul Hunter. This book alone is making me start a new pre-heresy Night lord army.

Worst?
Hmm...Nemesis, just because it added very little to the story.

Your fondest hope for 2011?

Yeah let's make that a separate category:

Best GW/FW resin model?

Best other company resin model?

Made in us

Best GW metal miniature?
Dark Eldar Incubi are multi-part, uniform, and still look like believable heavy-armored Elves.

Worst?
Mephiston; of the modern models, this one is too static to be so important. Not very likable in any way. Even older "bad" models (by today's standards) such as the Avatar aren't as static and unimpressive as Mephiston.

Best GW plastic miniature?
The Tyranid Trygon is amazing in multi-part plastic. It's a faithful recreation of the resin model that looks good alongside it. Additionally, it's an amazing starting ground for conversions.

Worst?
Dark Eldar Hellions are as goofy as they always were. With the modern update, it's disappointing that these models simply got more detail. As it stands, they're just "surfin' dudes" with double swords.

Best metal miniature by another company?
Infinity's Nagas Sniper. This model alone got me into Infinity.

Worst?
Anything by Soda Pop Miniatures. Their aesthetic doesn't do it for me, and their scale is unsatisfactory.

Best plastic miniature by another company?
Wargames Factory Zombies. Cheap and just good enough. Quantity has a quality all of its own.

Worst?
Wargames Factory Shock Troops. After the mishap regarding shipping, the mistake of having Beasts of War overhype/overadvertise/suckup the product, and Wargames Factory's inability to make sharp corners, these ended up rather sub-par. They were a high-profile set that fell flat on overhype, poor decisions, and dull details.

Best GW/FW resin model?
Eldar Hornet. It's a ChibiFalcon without having any of the ugliness involved in the ChibiHawk.

Best other company resin model?
Studio McVey's Y'Sala and Darkness. Amazing miniature.

Best GW rule book?
The Dark Eldar codex has great rules, internal consistency, and great internal balance.

Worst?
The Tyranids Codex has awful internal balance (Pyrovore, Strangeweb), money-driven rebalancing (Carnifex, Trygon, Tervigon), and sweeping fundamental changes to everything, vague rules, mediocre power level, and lack of models for many units.

Best GW/BL fluff book?
Tales of Heresy; especially The Last Church. Close second with the Inquision War trilogy.

Worst?
Eldar Propecy. All of it.

Your fondest hope for 2010?
GW will actually listen to fan feedback and release yearly rebalancing 'updates' to the game.

Your greatest fear?
More Space Marines and Price Increases

Best GW metal miniature?
Hmmm. Probably the Dark Eldar Mandrake, that thing oozes personality.

Worst?
Pumbagor. Definitely.

Best GW plastic miniature?
River Trolls are fantastic.

Worst?
Hard to call, but probably the High Elf Eternal Gaurd dudes, because of their ridiculous hats.

Best metal miniature by another company?
Hrrrrrmmmmm. Swamp Troll by Privateer Press, or the Dire Troll Bomber.

Worst?
Too many PP examples to pick one overall, but the Ravagore jumped out at me as a disappointing and not very dynamic example.

Best plastic miniature by another company?
Ooooh tricky. I think probably the Revenant Knights from Mantic, they look spiffy. The Mantic Dwarves are nice too (knees!) especially for the price. WGF greatcoats in second place.

Worst?
Hmmm worst worst worst... PP plastic infantry that is priced at GW levels but offering limited levels of individuality.

Best GW rule book?
WFB 8th Edition, though it is pricey as hell.

Worst?
Pretty much all the 40K books released. I am so uninspired I've stopped playing- mech dominance has kileld 40K for me because I hate painting vehicles.

Best GW/BL fluff book?
Well, counting fluff from the BA codex, probably that.

Worst?
I'm going to count Rogue Trader and say that's the best.
Your fondest hope for 2011?

I wouldn't know enough to actually say reliably. It's a shame but true...

Best GW rule book?

Dark Eldar I'd say, seems really balanced with good fluff and feel.

Worst?

Blood Angels. God I can't believe that was approved. Deep Striking Land Raiders, unnecessary use of the word blood, Space Jesus, Necron Buddies, Dante's mask of bed-wetting, FNP+FC Christmas pressies, the list goes on.

Best GW/BL fluff book?

First Heretic. hands down.

Worst?

If I could I'd say the Blood Angels Codex again.

Your fondest hope for 2011?

That GW gets their act together and actually gives a damn about the customer or balance and reason within the game.

Your greatest fear?

That Games-workshop keeps going the way its been for a while and we get more OTT Codices and stupid fluff and a price rise...

Best GW metal miniature? Queek Headtaker. The narrative on this dude is that he's not a typical cowardly skaven warlord and this model just oozes badass, likes he's about to wade into whatever enemy is arrayed against him.

Worst? In my opinion, would be a tie between Razorgor and Pyrovore, but the tie is broken by the fact that people will buy the Pumba because its rules are decent, as a chariot mount or unit its pretty nice. Pyrovore, not so much. Tyranid players, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Best GW plastic miniature? Did the Plastic Ork Dread/Kans come out in 2010? Can't remember, but they are great kits! Otherwise, River Trolls.

Worst? Although I liked them and own about 18, Minotaurs seem to be reviled on the interwebs.

Best metal miniature by another company?

I don't generally pay much attention to non-GW models.

Best GW rule book? 8th Edition WHFB Rulebook. Filled to the brim with Warhammer goodness.

Worst? Beastmen, which is sad, because I love and play Beastmen. It was just underwhelming compared to the army books preceding it, and not all that powerful if it truely was made with 8th edition rules in mind. *Suppresses rant*

Best GW/BL fluff book? ADB changed how I look at Black Templars with Helsreach. Made me a fan of his work and the BTs.

Worst? I just couldn't get into Firedrake for some reason. The cliqueish emo bickering got tiresome to me for one.

Your fondest hope for 2011? WHFB gets much more love.

Your greatest fear? The new Orc and Goblin army book will suck. I met Jeremy Vetock numerous times back when he worked at the GW store in the Peoples Republic and he's a great dude. I'd like to see him succeed as a games dev.

Sorry for the late response. I put some thought into this.

Best GW metal miniature?

Tie between DE Incubi / Leilith Hesperax. I'm a pretty dedicated DE hater so they really went above and beyond with these models to get my vote.

Best GW plastic miniature?

This was a great year in plastic, I think. I loved the River Trolls and the Boar Boyz.

Worst?

Storm Raven, no hesitation, no doubt.

Honorable mention for the Sanguinary Guard. Bad models with a truly hideous default color scheme.

The command tank sprue released with Spearhead was also quite a poor showing; divided in such a way as virtually everyone pays for minimum 50% stuff they can't use.

Best other company resin model?

Twilight Knight Pinup (Kingdom Death).

Best other company metal model?

Although I'm not crazy about the execution, I love the Chapterhouse Studios magnetized combi-weapon. It's a truly great concept.

Worst other company metal model?

I hate to kick them when they're down, but Chapterhouse's female heads were terrible, and they knew it They do a lot of great stuff though.

Best GW/FW resin model?

Grot Tanks. Great looking. I just wish I could afford them.

Honorable mention for the Tomb Stalker, which I actually could afford, and so acquired.

Best GW rule book?

I haven't played any of the new books well enough to see if they were "good"...

Worst?

... but I do read enough to know that the new Space Wolves are horrible. Wolves Wolverson McWolf, riding a Wolf which bark and shoots Wolves.

Spearhead seems very disappointing, as well.

Your fondest hope for 2011?

They're all Necron hopes. Plastic Immortals that have the DE Incubi aesthetic, for spindly, dangerous looking plastic Tomb Spyders, for beefy looking Necron lords, and for a codex which makes them as powerful and fearsome as they deserve to be, while still keeping Necron special rules. Perhaps Necrons can get Stormravens, since they're BFF with Blood Angels?

Grey Knights, I'm excited about but I don't think GW will screw them up.

Your greatest fear?

That they release Necrons with cookie-cutter rules. I mean like taking away WBB and giving them FNP, and essentially making them skeletal robot Plague Marines.

That they change or gimp the Tomb Stalker, presuming it's in the codex. I think it's fine the way it is.

Best GW rule book?

Warhammer 8th

Worst?

Tyranids - didn't like the shift to Tyrgon spam, nerfing Carnifex's in the process.. so we'd all need to buy loads of Tyrgons. Dang it.

Your fondest hope for 2011?

Warhammer Quest does indeed turn out to be the summer surprise for Warhammer players, otherwise.. moar Dark Elves pls.

Your greatest fear?

GW rumour control tightens to the point we don't even get reliable rumours anymore, just having to wait till things appear in White Dwarf or on the GW website - I seriously think GW would love this to be the case.
