Hello!

Just started an ork army with a friend as a little side project. Here are my first boyz, C&C wanted. I'm not very good at taking photos and the flash hit them quite hard so some colors such as the brighter ones dont really show all the highlighting etc...

Any suggestions before I get started with the next batch?

Wow that's some pretty awesome highlighting for just rank and file boyz. IMHO, the white bases just draw too much attention.

They're pretty nice.

My only suggestions would be to drill out the gun barrels, and to wash the metal parts to add a worn out look...

And I guess the bases aren't that finished? Or is it a snowy setting?

Thanks for the positive feedback. I'll try to drill out the gun barrels on the next batch.

The border of the bases are actually codex grey but the flash really lights them up. I have applied washes on the metals badab black + devian mud but they also light up. I'll see if I can get a better picture in the future when I have some more stuff done.

They look great! the only thing i would add is some rust to their metal bitz. i.e. weapons helms, and the iron gob one of your boyz has there. rust is easy, just get some Tin Bitz paint, put it on where you want rust, then before it drys, dab at it a bit with a paper towel or hand towel you arent using. the end result looks great! goo work though man i look frward to seeing some more, as i too have a Death Skull Army

I dig em, very nice boyz. You going to do a tutorial on how you did your skin? It looks a bit similar to how I now do mine (hurray redues!) but my Orks are a brighter skin tone

I actually followed GW:s painting guide on the skin.
Base coat with Orkhide shade, then knarloc green, then goblin green and finally goblin green / bleached bone gradually building up the highlights

Perhaps throw a Thraka Green wash over the skin?

What layers do you use for it?

Orkhide shade, knarloc green, goblin green, 50:50 goblin green / bleached bone. Just followed the GW article on painting boyz on their homepage

The GW method is actually one of the best ways to paint Orky skin (trust me, I've tried plenty). What gets fun later on is modifying this basic skin formula to suit your idea of how the Boyz should look. For instance, I like to mix up my own green from Camo Green, Scorpion Green and Goblin Green and substitute that for the straight Goblin Green in the above formula.

PS, if you ever feel that the skin needs more yellow, wait until the highlights are dry then glaze the skin with a mix of roughly 2 parts Thraka Green, 1 part Sunshine/Golden Yellow and 10 parts water.

Great to see the other fellows of the squad!

For those reading it's PanzerRanger and me who is working on this ork army together as a side project.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

The skin and the blue seem to have been done very well and balance out the darker colours on the rest of the model.

Very nice work.

Just hope you get your camera/lighting sorted out
