It's been a while since I"ve been able to find these cases in WalMart, but from what I can tell checking some local WalMarts during the past week in Maryland this massive chain store is again carrying the Plano 1404 Pistol/Accessory case and it's still only $10. The two stores I checked out stock two cases at a time and automatically restock within a few days. I bought 2 today at the Quarterfield Rd store and 2 more at the Arundel Mills WalMart in Maryland. Each case is great for carrying 5 or 6 standard sized Imperial Guard or Space Marine tanks and will even hold 2 Baneblades side by side. I also carry my Armorcast Warhound Titan in one with 3 different arms. I believe it's also practical to replace the foam that comes in the Plano 1404 with the figure slot foam GW sells for $20, giving you a pretty good $30 case for small figures. Bass Pro and Dicks Sporting Goods also carry the Plano 1404, but it's usually $20, twice as expensive as WalMart though still cheap for a miniatures case. The Plano 1404 has good sturdy latches and hinges and is pretty durable. I've had excellent luck with the many of them I've used for several years now to supplement my GW, Army Transport and Battlefoam cases because the 1404 is easily adapted for carrying a few larger models, saving more expensive figure slot foam cases for the smaller miniatures. So, if you need some inexpensive sturdy cases for carrying your army's armored support you might want to see if you can scrounge some these Plano cases where you can find them. Pass this along to your friends in need!

Yes they are excellent, especially for slightly larger minis.

Your wish is my command! There are three layers of foam, 2 egg-crate and 1 pick-and-pull. For Rhino, Russ sized tanks, I use the pick-and-pull layer to create individual spaces. For large models like Bandeblades I sandwich them between the egg-crate layers without the third layer at all, just putting some loose foam between and around them for a little extra padding.

I bought ten of them back in December. Honestly they are probably the best thing you can buy unless you want to spend a crap ton of money. I was going to buy foam inserts from my local hobby shop (which were $10 each) and put them in a tool box, then I saw these and I was like to heck with that.

Definitely yes, near the hunting, camping supplies. Again, Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shop also carry them, but they list there for $20. At WalMart, they are only $10.

Ironically, I used to buy these cases at the WalMart that was less than a mile from the GW HQ in Maryland before the HQ moved and the people at WalMart were clueless probably as to why they sold so many of them. Many times other customers at the HQ Battle Bunker asked me where I got the Plano 1404 cases and soon you'd see tons of them in the store. The Bunker Manager and staff also used to tell people about the cases to help with their larger models. Sometimes the WalMart would stop carrying them for a while and when I asked about it they said they only carried them during hunting season, not realizing that the reason they were selling so many of the carrying cases was because of the GW Battle Bunker HQ right around the corner. Even at the smaller GW stores in the area like Jennifer Square in Annapolis I see other customers with the Plano 1404. It's just the best solution for the money out there. In areas where Warhammer and similar games are popular, WalMart probably is selling the bulk of these cases to hobbyists, not "sportsman", though the case is great for it's intended purpose of carrying anything that is somewhat delicate like binoculars, fishing reels, etc. I'm planning to buy one of the smaller Plano cases to store my air brush and the delicate accessories that go with it.

How funny, my brother bought my nephew that very case a week ago for his Necrons. It works awesomely and if you plan out where the cuts go you can fit a CRAP load of minis in there. Hes got like 30 warriors, a TS, 5 flayed ones, 5 Immortals, s bunch of scarabs and his lord in there. If we hadnt made his destroyers bases permanent, they probably would fit too.Pretty nice for $10

I've already had a number of thanks from friends I emailed about this as well as from other forum users here and on Work In Progress. Glad this was helpful to a lot of people. Hopefully WalMart will stock these more regularly now if a lot of people are buying them.

My friend has one of these and it's a great case.
Here's a thread about that case from a couple years back that has a really detailed step-by-step process for maximizing it's use for miniatures.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/241220.page
The Walmarts around me don't carry it, but right now Cabelas has it online for $11.24! (regularly 15 bucks) It's the exact same case marketed as a "reel case" rather than a pistol case.

I just picked up a couple. I fit 90 boys and 24 lootas in one, while the other carries (With some foam-shuffling) 16 meganobs, several character models and 6 warbikers. They're the best value I've seen in a long time.

I have had one of those pistol cases for years, they work great.
But when I need to carry a whole army I use the boxes that 8.5 x 14 legal sized paper comes in where I work. The boxes are 17 x 14 x 11 deep and are very sturdy, with lids. I line them with craft store cushion foam in layers. They are customiseable and free, and when one gets beat looking I just bring home more boxes.
