Hey guys, came across these dudes http://shop.warlordgames.co.uk/pike--shotte-319-c.asp and I absolutally love 'em. I know some IG armys are very "old world" like kit bash with empire stuff... do you think these dudes would be to "old wold" even with a few IG bits (fitting vehicles would be tricky). Or does anybody know of any 28mm rules system for this type of miniatures? cheers

Go for it! I was planning on doing something similar using WW1 era British troops with gasmasks as a sort of DKOK replica but for various reasons, it has had to take a back seat to other projects right now.

thanks chibi for the reference^^

in fact i have looked at these minis too...and i will consider them in the future with a definite maybe^^

also you could go like me the steampunk version...just a bit earlier area...
and maybe you could avoid the whole mech issue and go full fron on heavy weapons teams and roughriders in many waves...

also i see some potential in winged units like the ones da vinci thought up...and of course his coneshaped tank would work with these too...

lots of potentail...hope you do it... will be a pleasure to see this done...

cheers... for vehical problem I could consider the empire steam tank? But yes steam punk is very much the image a want to create. How does a full infantry IG army play? I can imagine it is quite disadvantaged

well for my needs i went the other way and i am currently building a steampunkish airship...later tanks will follow that will have a WWI look to them...
the empire steamtakn is as classy as you can go^^ so if money is not a problem to you then make zillions of them...the look of the steamtank is pure renaissance so it would fit like a glove...
consider my fingers as closed as i can to see all this happen!

Actually quite the opposite, it's one very viable codex, and is rated as top tier.

Medieval and renaissance era worlds are definately a firm part of the background for the Imperium. There is even an equivalent laser-tech weapon for them in the form of las-locks (even if the detailed workings of them have never been fully explained). I say go for it and see what you can come up with

Regarding vehicles, a Guard force would generally be equipped with STC pattern stuff anyway (especially if they come froma more backward world), so its less what form the vehicles would take and more about their decoration and detailing.

Would just make some conversions to the standard tanks myself. Although the Empire Steamtank would look good
but thinking at £36 a pop... eeek
(note but a am a tightwad on the wrong side of the tracks )
Not an IG player but guessing they would need armoured support.

They do some some help, but not always, powerblobs don't need a massive amount of armour.

Sweet, yes i could try and find some las gun "ends" but I wont have enough for the whole army so foot sloggers may justhave to stick with muskets, but its the 41st milennium so they are special muskets As Viktor said Da Vinchi stuff would fit nicly... also has anyone seen the film Chicken Run... the plane from that?

+100 to what Flinty said! i'd imagine the vehicles come from a large Imperial Warehouse(Where everything must go! to make room for next years models!!!).
the troops and markings for the vehicles would retain their home world flavor though.

exactly...da vinci is THE MAN for all needs here!
i think with small tubing cut at an angle and then simply glued on the muzzle would give the lasgunlook quite good... if you think you need something extra then i would add backpacks to the footsloggers...and powercables and your good to go...

chibi, that would be cool looking...t

here is this withchunter

this mini would work great as a sergant or even a commissar to match the style of the army...

I was thinking witch hunters actually... they have the same ranaisonse (spelt wrong) feel. Backpacks and powercable could look good, but subtly where could I find some small backpacks is the question?

well just take SM packpacks and cut them down to size... all vents and outtakes off and i think that should work quite well...
saw that a couple of times here on this bord down already...

hmm, but I buy a box of 40 of these dudes, thets say I can scrounge about 5 SM backpacks from my bits box, then I pay £18 for the rest: too expensive. I suppose I could make my own from plasticard or summin. Here is my plan to 40k-ify them:

1 - Add bits (pouches and aquilla stuff from my BB)

2 - Power up their muskets: Attatch tubing (garden wire, gs wahtever I choose) to base of rifle butt, under the hand. Each "trooper" has a sword in a scabbard which then has a small box thing. I hope this could be big enough to act as a small power supply. This box and scabbard will sit on the left side of the torso so wheater the cable travels across the body, or braced across the back is something to trial and error. This hopefully avoids costs of backpacs and stuff

HERESY!

*BLAM*

That being said, keep in mind that most historical wargamers are fans of this weird thing they call "realism" so be careful with mixing bits. Truescale mixed with the hydrocephalic dwarves of GW can look really really strange.

I think your plan will work because you are planning to use the weapons that come with them - good call! Lasguns are really tough to fit on historical scale models. Your special weapons will also be tough - the typical plasma gun is big on a GW model, ridiculous on a historical. I would look at scratch building your own weaponry, or trying to find some of the classic, smaller scale ork and IG stuff for historical models.

If ur lookin for las guns to cut the end off to make las locks the warstore sells 4x lasguns for 5$.
Or you could ebay it.

I was not going to fiddle with the troopers current weaponry (muskets etc) just a power cable or summin. But yes I have some of the warlord games romans and they are tiny comparedto IG cadians. So a SM plasma pistol could be a good shoud for a full plasma gun XD but for other stuff I will have to improvise =(

Well my bitz box is brimming with all sorts of crap. I will just have to sift through until you get that "omg that will look awsome" feeling and then go from there. I need to get some of the Eng Civil War minis first.
