Subject: Re:GW's Mystery Box? WTF is it already?!?
I've not kept upto date with this post, so sorry if this has been mentioned already. I was chatting to a mate last night and picked up the following information:
Apparently there are only 3 people at GW who know about it (as told to him by a GW worker). My mate was going to try a connetion, his mate's sister is Trish Morrison, but no go there.
We both were under the impression it was something that GW had done before, but this time it's going to be amazing.
GW staffer said it would be around £80
Our feeling is it's got to be Space Hulk. The reasoning behind this is:
Terminators are already out in a cheap form
Genestealers are in plastic as well
Only need a small size rulebook
If you can produce a 6 x 4 moulded board and sell it for £120, you can produce a plastic Space Hulk board that fits the £80 budget
All the above would make a £80 box set of Space Hulk with plastic scenery more than possible, plus Space Hulk would fly out of the door. This means even if sales dry up, they would of made a mint out of the original sales.

So three people in the whole company are going to control:
1. Finance for the project. 2. Sculpting the miniatures. 3. Writing the rules. 4. Layout and presentation for the rules. 5. Graphics and diagram creation. 6. Inventory and dealing with overseas manufacturers. 7. Packaging layout and graphics. 8. Colour photography for both the box and the included documentation. 9. Painting the minatures. 10. Distribution and inventory via the website and via stores worldwide.
3 people?
Ok... sure... I believe that.

Did I say there was any logic to the GW info? As you say, 3 people is hard to believe.

It's not like it's the Coke recipie or the 7 secret herbs and spices. It's not like there's a piece of paper with 'Space Hulk' on it that was torn in half, one half kept in the US and the other in a vault beneath the Marine statue in Nottingham (although that would be kinda cool... if stupid).

The secret is there are only 2 spices. Salt and pepper. They can only maintain the slogan because it was started before the laws that would put the smack down.
I imagine that somewhere in the UK is some one looking at a piece of paper that says "Space" going "this could be anything." And someone in the US looking at "Hulk"... wondering if GW's made some deal to take the loveable comic book character and adapt him as an ork or something.

Archonate wrote:Maybe it's going to be a Space Hulkesque style boardgame, except instead of BAs vs. Genestealers on a space hulk, maybe it will be Tau vs. Tyranids onboard a hiveship, similar to Tyranid attack, or Dark Eldar raiding a Necron world engine for ancient technology.
That's a theory I've had, although my guess is it would be IG vs. Nids as they generally want a human race to give people something to identify with and they can try to hitch a ride on the Aliens star, albeit a bit late...
Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Well my reckoning behind it (sorry if it has been mentioned before) is either BFG since there were rumors about its rerelease, thus making it 40k related in some sence.

Every once in a great while GW throws something at us that doesn't include SMs...
That's true, but SMs is their bread-and-butter... if it's going to be Space Hulk, you've got to figure that Marines are going to be in there..
Absolutely. But some of us are clinging to the fine hope that it's got nothing to do with SMs. We cling to clues such as "never been done before" and "boardgame", hoping that SMs are left behind this time. My favorite is the dubious "it's not space hulk" clue...
