That looks fantastic, the lamp OSL abover the door is amazing, the gun flash not so good, but I think it might be the photo that is doing that. It really is a very nice diorama. Nice job!!
If I could make one suggestion to increase the dramatic impact of the piece, I'd suggest revisiting your lighting effect on the wall. Right now, the flash is throwing colour on the wall (it's yellow) but not any light (it's the same darkness). There's a way to see the difference by cheating.
Take your photo, and desaturate it, so it's just shades of grey. You end up with the following:
Oirginal:
Desaturated:
See how the flash disappears? That's what I mean by throwing colour on the wall, but not light. The stone is reflecting the same amount of light whether it's in the flash radius or not, while it should be brighter. Use some white to highlight the bricks, and/or add more dark washes to the walls and floor outside the flash radius. You're aiming for something like this:
The darker washes will also help focus attention on the two characters, who can get a bit lost in such a large canvas despite the central positioning.
I highly recommend viewing images in greyscale, rather than colour, when you're testing the effectiveness of OSL. Before Photoshop I would sketch things out with pencil, but technology is faster and easier. Remember, if you ain't cheatin' you ain't really tryin'.
Hope this helps. Cheers!

hey kids... tha man provided rather big pics here... go into the gallery and zoom at your hearts desire... with these pics you can get so close as to be utterly iundescent with a SoB
and the second series looks better now... the first series surprised me for the brightness of them... very unlike you klaus^^ but i guess it was to show some daylinght pics i asked for^^
the light above the door is a nice twist! gives the whole dio a lived and used feel... something we don´t see so often with all those ruined stuff for the grim dark scenes...

Second that! Great tip!
Klaus, fantastic work as always! My favorite parts: the tile floor and the recommisioning the spacehulk termie (looks very natural!)
My only CC: I'd like to see a bit of shadow at the top of the launch door. Since it's recessed in there, wouldn't the flourescent light only reach the bottom half?
Keep up the great work!

Again, thank you all
I really hope you enjoy your read and you can discover the one or the other helpfull or inspiring thing in here.
14 pages is a lot to digest
For now I call the "Rear Guard" finished and I will put it aside. I'll try to get better images over the weekend.
AND
I will try to gather my courage and get the one and only project you're all hoping for back onto my desk.
Eventhough the release of Diablo 3 could interfere here
If anything could make me spend $500.00 on a new computer Diablo 3 would.......

...What I meant by closer pics was more in the framing of the shot I think...I'm not sure exactly how to explain what I mean unfortunately.
Have you ever looked at gardening/landscaping DIY books? In the theory sections, they always refer to "creating interest" in the back yard by planting things and placing objects so that paths curve around and dissapear around corners or bushes so that you naturally want to walk that way and see what is around the corner. It creates a "mystery" that you naturally want to discover. In your pics, we can see the entire diorama, so we already know the odd shape of the base...However if you add a little mystery, by leaving the viewer to speculate what is beyond the frame of the shot, just hinting or teasing about the rest, it is actually more excitign than seeing the whole thing.
Not unlike the way scantily clad females can be more exciting to look at than completely naked females because it gives the imagination more to do...I hope that makes sense.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I hope you don't mind, but I zoomed and hacked up your pic here to maybe illustrate better.
See how this adds more visual interest? You KNOW there is more to the right and the left of the shot, but you can't see it so it's more imaginitive. This is such an amazing diorama, with so much amazing action captured with your excellent OSL work, this is the type of shot they would publish in WD for the Golden Demon awards mathinks!
