I am willing to give GW any benefit of the doubt as ther was allot of doubt before the washes were released when the inks were discontinued, and now pretty much everyone uses them and there are little to no other alternatives as good or well received as the washes.

At the vary least we should be happy they didn't get some "genius" idea to completely changeup their colors. They are simply playing a shell game with names.

Okay, more info from the same source:
• There are 144 paints (the current line is only 73), so the range is doubling in size.
• Broken down into Bases (foundations), Layers (normal colours), shades (washes), Dry (essentially goopy paint for dry brushing), Glaze (thinned washes for easier blending), Texture (sand + colour) and Technical (liquid green stuff).
• Bottles are not changing.
• Every color is renamed, there will be a white dwarf with a comparison guide released. Blood red is now wild rider red, ultramarine blue is Calgar blue, skull white is white scar etc etc. There is a big expansion in the greens. There are pinks again, and more purple.
• Foundation white!! Named Ceramite White
• New how to paint book that includes a 90 minute DVD
• Mega paint set available year round now, but is super expensive apparently. Prices are apparently the same (for now).

Why rename the colors? Is there a point? If Wild Rider red is Blood Red, why not just keep it Blood Red and introduce 'Wild Rider Red' as another red tone?
While I welcome new colors, some think tank definitely had too much time to waste on this.
Especially if now I need to buy a 12 dollar WD to "remember" the names of colors I have been using for fifteen years.

Ok, now for some 'Red Gore'......no wait. I need 'Gretchin Cornea' now.

Because years ago GW had a spat with Vallejo over Ultramarine Blue and other colors they thought they could trademark and lost. That´s why paint 72022 in Vallejo´s catalog is called Ultramarine Blue and ofc GW can´t build upon exclusivity if other brands DARE using the same names.
This has been a trend with the latest paints and now the overhaul everything so they can retreat into their little bubble.

Foundation White will be the only thing worth getting for me. Everything else is done better by Vallejo and I make my own washes.

I'd have to actually see this foundation white before deciding on it myself. I can't shake the feeling it'd either have issues covering or be somewhat chalky.
Hopefully it'll be at least as good as Deneb Stone.

Well, there is the whole "Vallejo has every color of GW paint in a snarky, near-identical name."
I always chuckle at "Tinny Tin."
Unfortunately, I find that some of Vallejo's don't completely match up, like the Codex Grey analog I was going to use on my Space Wolves, but had to go back to Codex Grey. I also like limited dry-brushing for organics like leather and fur, but Vallejo colors are way too watery unless I let them sit out on the palette. Try drybrushing skeletons sometime *shudder*.
I'll be a little happier if they reintroduce colored metallics, but I doubt it.

I would also guess that since they're switching manufacturers and re-formulating no matter how hard they try I'd bet some of the colors won't match 100% perfectly with their old counterparts. So besides trying to get away from the copycat names of other companies it probably may be for that reason as well.

That is a bit funny. To get away from copycat names, they are abandoning their old trademark words and names?

I don't think that many of them really could have been trademarked words/names.
I mean "Liche Purple"? "Midnight Blue"? That's still kind of generic.

Sounds interesting if true, most intriguing is the dry brush and texture category, you can dry brush with any paint surely? And just leave a GW pot for long enough and it turns gloopey anyway! I predict the new mega paint set with be £200+ at least...

It's a shame they aren't using the opportunity to redesign the pots a little - I really don't like the new pots. Not only do they not stay open (for us heathens that dare to paint from the pot) but they don't stack particularly well either due to the curved lid.
Still, nice that they are introducing some more colours and generally making things a bit more user friendly for the newcomer I suppose.

I'm pretty excited about seeing the new paint. I've tried many other brands of paint and some I like better, but for most I really do like the GWS paint; I think their metallics and washes are really good (except brass, which I like Vallejo for better).
I also do wish they'd move to droppers, which I think are superior in all respects, but it matters little to me since I already have plenty of empty plastic dropper bottles, tops, and lava beads for agitators which I already use to repackage my GWS paints anyway.

I bet they changed the names to make us think 'dark star' is a new paint when it's just Chaos Black.
My OCD is telling me I need a new Mega Paint set even though I still have colors from the last mega paint set I do not even use.
Anyone know where I can get 150 dropper bottles cheap? Hell Ill even have a friend make water-slide labels,

Hmm, it may be completely unrellated, but there are a lot of colors in the "Space Marine Painter" in the Space Marine game that don't (to my knowledge) have a coorelating Citidel Paint available (like the damnable "Alpha Legion Blue and Green.").
At first I just thought Relic and GW were being bastards, but maybe they are adding some colors by those names to the range. Others off the top of my head were Blood Raven red, a couple of metallics I'd never seen before, etc.

When people run out of "Red Gore" and they go to the FLGS, will they reach for Vallejo's "Gory Red" (that is nearly identical to what they've been using) or "Skaven Hernia" that isn't quite the same color? Looks like a real opportunity for Vallejo. Obviously people who only visit GW stores will have to accept whatever GW decides to do, but it's been that way forever.
