Ok so heres a quick overview of how I went about making my chariots of Tzeentch.
List of Components: (as best as I can remember)
- 2 Horrors ( old metal ones before new plastics)
- 4 Screamers as is from box sets
- some cheap craft chain and craft wire
- 2x flames accessory packs from malifaux (dont need all bits just a couple)
- Some air dry clay for disc mould
- Greenstuff for making discs/filling gaps and such
Bits used on Horrors:
- Horns from a Daemon Prince plastic kit
- Tongue from Keeper of Secrets alternate head
- Flames accessories from previously mentioned pack (used on horrors arm)
- Hand with a whip from the corspe cart box set (Vampire Counts)
- 2x Ends of whips from Dark Eldar Warriors kits (to make the whip have 3 tails)
Bases:
-2x Screaming Bell base
-2x 60mm round base
-8x 25mm resin base (used to match existing Tzeentch models I have)
-2x 40mm resin base
- 6x various sized flying stands (come with screamers box)
- Snow basing stuff
Basically I love the magical flames that tend to be in tzeentch armies alot, this coupled with the fact that chariots are awesome units for daemons I had to go and make some.
Burning Chariot of Tzeentch
"Tzeentch's chariots are discs of sorcerous fire shackled to a pair of screamers. They hurtle accross the Realm of Chaos like incandescent meteors, bringing Tzeentch's chosen Heralds to every corner of existence."
pg 50 Daemons of Chaos
That pretty much sums up how I think a Tzeentch chariot should be.
So, here are the bits I started with to make the chariots.
The discs themselves I decided to make from
GS, I'v seen people use flying bases etc but I didnt like the sizes of the flying bases and went for a disc size in between the 2.
I made these disc halves by making a mould from a pepper grinder lid in air dry clay. After the clay was dry I used some cooking oil to lube up the mould and then pressed
GS into it to make half a disc, I then put this in the freezer to harden the
GS so I could pop it out of the mould without warping the
GS. Two of the disc halves get glued together to give the disc a curve on the top and bottom of the model.
After gluing the disc halves I chopped the back half off to attach the flame tails, then I used
GS to blend in the edges a bit. I also started doing some work on the heralds to set them apart from the normal horrors.
I then thought hmm, not enough flames, maybe I can sculpt some, and so my first real attempt at sculpting something happened.
Next pics just show progress on sculpting flames and bits on the heralds.
Now I knew I'd need some decent size bases for these guys and because they havent got any actual model or base size I made some bases using a screaming bell base and a 60mm round base.
I then chucked some resin bases on top for texture and because the rest of my Tzeentch army has the same bases. I also drilled holes into said bases and used
GS to make supports for the flying stands.

This pic shows how I'v used
GS to fill the gaps in the join between the 2 screamer bits, also holes I drilled for the chains to link into said screamer.
At this point most of the building was done, the following pics show how painting progressed. (Not very detailed for painting just basic idea on how it progressed, anyone interested in how stuff was painted feel free to ask)
The chains were attached last and are just some cheap craft chain I bought, the rings that link the screamers and chains + the ring the heralds are holding were made by wrapping some thin wire about a round object, they were then cut to form rings (kinda how rings are made for chainmail). Was just a matter of cutting the chains to the right length by hooking them up and testing length.
And finally the finished Chariots.
