This was a recent 1.75k tourney which comprised 3 games held at a really cool RAF club venue in Edinbugh.

There was a good mix of armies, one GK, one nid, 3 wolves, 1 BA, 2 DE, 1 Necron, 2 Eldar, 2 guard and a couple of deathwing. No Orks which meant no 4 battlewagons. This made me very happy!

Game 1 was against Iains Dark Eldar. Iain had travelled from the Kingdom of Fife to participate, and was a genial and civilised opponent.

The mission was C&C and deployment was pitched battle. The twist was that the objectives were placed by each player in the opposition deployment zone.

Iains very approximate list was: 4 Raiders with DE and wracks, a venom with 5 incubi, a unit of wytches, 2 talos, 2 small reaver jetbike units , 2 ravagers and and some snipers (possible part of the wracks).

Early doors:
I got first turn, and it told! The dominions scout and melta managed to bag a raider and a venom in the early turns. The Exoricsts also managed to pop most of the DE vehicles before they got going. This made me happy as Iains mobility was clearly a key threat.

Middle Game:
St. Celestine and the Wytches tarpitted each other! Eventually the Saint got the upper hand and ran them down. She jumped over to some Dark Eldar warriors, flamed them, and then got killed in the assault! The conclaves rhino was immobilised by one of the talos, so they disembarked and routed one of the reaver units. However because of Celestines death they were caught in a crossfire that halved their numbers.

The seraphim had jumped up the right flank relatively unopposed, making short work of the second reaver unit. However this all changed when the incubi got out of the ruins of their venom, and routed one unit, over 2 turns, the consolodated, and promptly routed the second (pinned by snipers) unit of blonde seraphim! Very upsetting.

Endgame:
The conclave did a stellar turn holding the middle of the table and taking a multi charge from lots of wracks. This allowed a sisters unit to spread out over the objective so that the turbo boost of the final raider wasn't enough to contest. There were extra tourney points for claiming both objectives, but the other sisters unit got immobilised by a talos on their way across the board...

A victory for the sisters of battle!

Game 2 vs. Peters Blood Angels. Peter handled his army like a pro. However this game was proof that when your luck is out there is nothing to be done.

This mission was killpoints with a twist. 5 objectives were placed, and worth and extra 2 KP each. The deployment was DoW, everyones favourite!

Peters approx list: 3 Preds with lascannon sponsons and AC turrets, 1 unit of 2 speeders, 1 unit of 2 multimelta attack bikes, maybe 4 combar squads, 2 in hvy bolter razorbacks, 3 drop pods.. DP1: combi melta sernguard + libby w bloodlance and fear of darkness, DP2: libby dread with bloodlance, DP3: dread with blood talons.

Early doors:
Alot happened in the first turns! Peter drop podded the libby dread on the left flank next to 2 exorcists, and blood lanced them: had them both blown up until I rolled a 6+ inv. on one of them! Blessed indeed! The sternguard and libby podded on the right flank next to the other exorcist. Even worse on this flank, as blood lance plus 5 combi meltas can only immobilise the other Exorcist. Very bad luck.

For the sisters, the conclave assaulted the sternguard and routed them, but the libby fled 12 inches and was able to rally. The conclave were then trapped between a drop pod and an immobilised exorcist! Celestine made a beeline for a combat squad holed up in a ruin, but was martyred before she got to fight! The seraphim began to cloase range with the Blood angels armour. The dominions outflanked on the right, came on and melted a Pred! More bad luck for Peter as dispite huge numbers of lascannons, could he pop any vehicles? No. Could he kill any seraphim? No! The 6++ reroll saved many of the girls!

Middle Game:
The seraphim really took hold of this game. Their melta pistols, aided by the dominions, took a very heavy toll on the BA armour, accounting for the remaining 2 preds, 2 razorbacks and a speeder. The libby dread was obliterated with exorcist missiles. Celestine resurrected and cleaned up some infantry. Could Peter hit, pen or blow up anything? No.

End Game:
At the end Peter had a speeder, a melta bike, two drop pods and an immobilised blood talon dread left. Exorcist missiles again saved me from the third drop pods contents. I was claiming an objective worth an extra 2 KP until Peter sensibly contested with his speeder in the last act of a bloody battle.

A victory for the sisters of battle!

Game 3 vs Nids. On table 1 (nosebleed terriotorry for Tau, my ususal army). Can't remember the chaps name but he made all the clubs scenery and it was frankly superb.

The mission was 4 objectives, which I rather stupidly placed quite close together (despite [or beacuse of?] my opponents warnings!).

Nids: 3 Tervigons, 2 units gaunts, Hive Tyrant, 2 units hive guard, 1 unit of 3 Zoanthropes

Early Doors:
2 Tervigons vomied Gaunts but rolled doubles. THe Nids rushed forwards, and Celestine and a unit of Seraphim took the bait. Both gaunt units got counter attack and were boosted by FNP. This ended rather humiliatingly with the seraphim being routed and Celestine being martyred. Oh dear! So much for the vanguard! The conclave slightly improved things by wiping a unit of gaunts.

Middle Game:
The nids advanced, doing quite alot of damage through shooting. THe second unit of seraphim was eaten by the hive tyrant. There were some really wacky rules misunderstandings from my opponent. Yes, I can fire through an assault, at a unit not emngaged in that assault. No, MCs do not get a cover save unless they are 50% obscured (and so on). The upshot was things got a bit bad tempered for a while (for me at least). The bottom line was my assault units got caned, and my Exorcists were running out of manna. But beyond squabbles, my opponent used the terrain superbly, in true Nid tradition. Again the conclave provided a bright spot by taking an assault from the hive tyrant and holding out till the last turn.

Endgame:
A late and desperate set of contests from the sisters were not enough. I did have the pleasure of seeing St. Celestine run through a Tervigon. But I only held 1 objective, contesting one, and my Nid opponent held 2.

Loss for the sisters of Battle!

Well done on two wins! That last table with both armies looks awesome - I wouldn't mind losing on that!

Hey Dave,

Cool report. Sounds like it was a good tournament - is this what you were frantically boosting up to 1,750 for? Also, did you steal any of the terrain from the last game?

I was gutted you didnt win the game against the Nids, but then again if he had those misunderstandings with you I wonder how much it affected him getting two massacres in the previous rounds.

The army he had was well designed for the missions at hand with it having sooo many troops, and all three scenarios being troop based, so he used his thinking cap well there. Always disappointing to hear of someone getting basic rules wrong thought, especially in the final game of a tournament.

Gonna have to try my hand on against your SoB.... they looked very scary at the tournament!

Thanks dudes, I think he would have won anyway as he comprehensively out-thought and out-fought me, and I agree the Nid list was highly optimal for the tourney rules.

Great report, and nice showing with the new Sisters!

Judging by how they fared in this tournament, would you say that the Seraphim are still worth it at all? I love their points reduction, but I'm miffed that they no longer have the ability to go invulnerable, and have been dropped to Initiative 3.

Funny you say that LoNC, it was the init. nerf that annoyed me more than loss of rending or anything else. Seraphim models are the reason I started a sisters army so they were going in no matter what happened in the WD codex.

I personally think they are well worth it. They are clearly not an uber assault unit. They are for harrying and pinning back the enemy, and most of all they are for tank hunting. The double tap on meltas has turned them into one of the best anti-tank units in the game IMO. Their mobility is also priceless. 6++ with reroll is scofffed at by many but is very handy. And their twin bolters are great vs hordes, assuming they don't have FNP...

Clearly from the forums the percieved wisdom is that dominions get all the fast slots. I disagree, as dominions are next to useless against all hordes. And they are nowhere near as pretty

I played an all Seraphim list in a Kill Team tournament a few weeks ago. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they performed. They will almost always get this AoF off and that many pistols does a surprising amount of damage. That is until I was massacred by mass S5 Stormbolters from a GK player....

I think Dominions are probably better, but I would definitely consider fielding Seraphim a few times to check out their utility. IMO the initiative Nerf was huge, as was the loss of the Book for them.

good job on the 2 wins, That was some seriouse bad luck in the second game for the angels. That last game looks amazing with the terrain and nids.

I'm interested on two things from game 1:

- How did he have 4 heavies?
- What are these snipers you speak of?

@ Kris thanks man but I really was outplayed. I think I had the tools to win but didn't prioritise targets well and used the seraphim particularly badly. But he was a very good player and exploited my fuzziness.

@ G-M That might be a mistake on my part. I'm not familiar with the DE dex. The snipers... they had a rule whereby if someone got wounded they were removed from play.. can't remember the unit, maybe they were in the wracks? Showing my ignorance here!
