So, after a number of years away from Gaming, I'm finally getting back into it. I previously owned an IG army, and an SM army, back when 40K was 2nd Ed, and stopped playing just as 3rd Ed came out. I sold all of my minis to a mate, with the exception of my Spyrer Team. I'd not finished painting them, and since they were for Necromunda, a game I found far preferable to 40k, I decided that these would be the mini's that I'd hang onto. Skip forward to now, and I've got a wife and a house, a house that still need a lot of doing up...

I bought a copy of the Outlanders boxed set a little while ago on the bay, and have been watching boxed sets of Necromunda going for far too much for a while.

I've continued to want to get back into Necromunda, and when we visited some friends in Scotland, this came up in conversation. The amazing friend said that he had a complete boxed set of both Necromunda and Outlanders, and would I like them. I jumped at them, first nearly biting his hand off, then feeling a little guilty as I knew how much they were worth on the bay, pointing this out to him. He insisted that I should take them, for which I am incredibly grateful.

So, I now had a set of both Necromunda and two of Outlanders.

Gang wise, I'd got my Spyrers, which are a bit advanced for playing against new players, and the Goliaths from the boxed game.

I did a bit of poking at the bay, and have had a little luck, winning a Van Saar gang, a mis-labled Orlock gang (with a Missile launcher rather than a heavy stubber, very odd), and a Ratskin gang.

Nearly all of the models I've picked up are painted, and will be stripped and repainted as I work through them.

I've also managed to pick up both the old card imperial firebase and bastion.

I'd love an Escher gang too, or maybe too of them, one with some of the stunning minis from Reaper, the other with the classic GW sculpts.

This set of posts will be to detail my descent back into the underhive. I've decided that I ought to try and structure things a bit, with regards to the order that things are done, as they will only move forward as I have spare time and cash to do so.

1. Get photos of what I have up here, to show the condition that I'm starting from.
2. Finish painting the Spyrers to the paint scheme that the younger me decided on.
3. Start following the inspiration from the 3 blogs making Necromunda and GorkaMorka terrain here, and replace the card sections with plasticard likenesses. Unlike them, I am intending on keeping the terrain fully modular, and close to the original as possible, although there will be some 3d elements. For this reason 1mm plasticard (I believe that this is the correct thickness, but will test before getting to far) will be used. I will be attempting to recreate the original terrain for both Necromunda, Outlanders, the Imperial Firebase and the Bastion.
4. Paint any pre-stripped minis I have
5. Start stripping the gangs that I have acquired one mini at a time, and repaint them as I go along.

Looking forward to sharing this with you guys!

Don't expect things to move hugely fast though!

!!Edit!!

Took the photos of the Spyrers tonight, I might try to knock up a light box to get better photos of them at some point...

Here's the Jakara, rear view in the Gallery

My first Malcadon, rear view again in the Gallery

The second Malcadon, again rear view in the Gallery

The Yeld, once again, rear view in the gallery. This is the first mini that has anything I'm actually happy about having photographed them, I think that the wings /might/ be ok, but only OK, which isn't where I'd like them to be

Last but not least, the Orrus, rear again in the Gallery.

C&C welcome, I hope you can see where I was thinking of taking these 13 years ago...

Sounds like a fun project! Are you back into playing games or just modeling and painting?

Have you thought about using a wash on the skin tones? Very easy with pretty decent results.

Good luck!

Modelling and painting to start, although the gangs that I've picked up from ebay have been surprisingly well painted. Playing depends on either persuading the wife that she wants to play, or finding other players in London.

I never really played with washes previously, but they are something I've been tempted by.

I'm most unhappy about how solid the black is, but looking through some of the other threads has given me some ideas on that.

The idea was mimicking the black/yellow warning stripes, with the undersuits they wear being black, and the armour/weapons being yellow, and jewels/power lines/etc being picked out in suitable other colours. I'm currently thinking that I may be best to strip these one at a time, and start from scratch generally, maybe starting with the Orrus, as I think that he most embodies the look that I'm hoping for.

I would highly recommend playing around with washes. Before you strip those guys, you could try some painting techniques on a test model, some random ganger, or an unrelated model, to get use to the different ideas you want to incorporate into this gang. That way you don't have to strip these guys if you really don't need to... or at least it will save you from having to strip them again, if it's not quite right the second time.

... and with that, I would like to finish by recommending the articles section, where what i have just blurted out is written much better (and often accompanied by pics).

ps: Welcome to Dakka.

I second gluna40's request:
If MrDrem or anybody else happen to have the scans still available somewhere and would be able to upload them again, this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
