Orks vs Guard, 2 of 3, 1500pts, pic heavy
INTRODUCTION
While attending Warhammer World for the 'Eavy Metal Painting Masterclass, endtransmission and I took the opportunity to make use of the tables and scenery to continue our respective army's struggle against each other. This is battle two of three.
One of three is over here.
Morgrim slowly came to, registering pain in various spots about his body - coincidentally, or not he thought, focused around where Grimskab was poking around. Morgrim swatted the Painboy away. "Enuf!" As his vision sharpened, he spotted Skarag. "Report!". Skarag jumped to attention. "Vehicles repaired. Boyz patched up. We iz gud ta go Boss!". Morgrim surveyed the immediate area. "Wherez da loot?". Skarag looked down, sheepishly. "Ummm... all loot woz accounted far sar... but... some woz misplaced in da taktikal withdrawl..." Morgrim raised an eyebrow suspiciously, and Skarag hurriedly continued "...but it iz aroun' 'ere... close by... sumwhere... Boss?" Morgrim raised himself up to his full height. "Gavver da ladz, we goz get it now!" "An' da 'umies?" Skarag enquired. "Let dem cum take it off us if dey can! Wot?" Grimskab had returned. "Nowz ya chance - da 'umies 'ave bin sighted - dey iz approachin' from all sides!"

MISSION: Wave Assault (Battle Mission)
DEPLOYMENT: Wave Assault (4 Objectives)
PRELUDE
We rolled up a random Battle Missions mission - Wave Assault - a Tyranid mission. Guard won the roll off so Orks took the role of "the Enemy". Endtransmission probably won the roll off for choice of side too - and probably just chose the side he was already on (top) - I don't think the terrain particularly favored one side or the other...
Endtransmission split his Guard up into three "waves" - they are denoted in the army list above in the order they appeared - for convenience only, they were randomly determined in game (ie he didn't know which would show up in each turn).
The Orks then deploy anywhere on the table more than 12" from the Guard table edges. Knowing the objectives are set up in set positions, I set up centrally around the centre two, the hard hitters on the flanks and Snikrot in Reserve. I'm hoping to swing and crush each Guard "wave" as it appears... Four objectives were setup as indicated - one at the centre of the table and three others each 18" away from the centre of each Guard table edge.
Right overview

Central close up
For this mission, Guard (Tyranids) always take the first turn. A randomly selected wave moves on a previously unused Guard table edge for the first three turns - but apart from that, it is simply objectives to win.
TURN 1
"Wave 1" of the Guard approach from the eastern table edge.
Nobz eye-off Guard across an objective.
Guard forgo shooting to close the gap.
Realising it is too far to go for all of the Orks, and two more waves are to appear on the other two table edges, I send in the Nobz and a lone Deffkopta to deal with the new arrivals...
...while the other Trukks got into a better position for the other two table edges.
Orks take first blood shooting - the Nobz Trukk Big Shoota gunning down a Ratling while the remaining two think better of the whole situation and leg it!
The Nobz multi-assault the blob squad and Veteran's Chimera, wrecking the Chimera, pinning the disembarking Veterans and making their mark on the blob squad - whose Commissar dutifully kept in line in face of the ferocious Ork assault.
IG: 0 objectives (0 kill points)
ORKS: 1 objective (2 kill points)
TURN 2
"Wave 2" sneakily deploys in the same corner as "Wave 1", reinforcing it. Suddenly half the Ork army has no targets...
A broader view of the battlefield and the out of position Orks.
To add insult to injury, the Psyker Battle Squad wrecks Morgrim's ride - it was closest to assist and is now in the way of everything else! Not to mention that Morgrim and his boyz will now need to leg it across open ground...
Further Guard shooting has little effect, the Deffkopta in particular surviving all fire directed at it.
The Platoon Command Squad attempt to deal with the Deffkopta...
...but instead lose two of their number while causing a single wound. The hold though. So does the lone Commissar defiantly holding up the Nobz...
Knowing where the final Guard have to arrive from, Skarag leads his boyz and the Meganobz towards the final table edge (from behind of course!)
While Morgrim leads his boyz on foot towards the newly arrived Guard. Unencumbered by combat, the Nobz Trukk and the other Deffkopta joins them.
Ork shooting merely manages to shake the Psyker Chimera while Morgrim and his boyz seek the safety of the rocky outcrop.
The Platoon Command Squad gets a lucky drop on the Deffkopta whilst the Nobz finish off the Commissar and dig into the rocks to await the full might of the Guard's guns.
IG: 0 objectives (2 kill points)
ORKS: 1 objective (3 kill points)
TURN 3
The final "Wave" makes it's appearance on the western table edge, behind the Ork lines.
While the rest of the Guard surround the Nobz.
The new arrivals make their mark on the left flank, disembarking the Meganobz, thinning their numbers and pinning them to boot!
The right flank Guard shooting doesn't disappoint (well, the Guard anyway) - culling the Nobz and their ride (perhaps I should have gone to ground... the Painboy survived!)
Seeing a chance to exact revenge, Morgrim leads his boyz towards the shaken Psyker Chimera whilst the Painboy decides to take on the Heavy Weapons Team single handedly.
Skarag shakes his head at the pinned Meganobz and decides to take matters into his own hands - moving his boyz Nob within Boarding Plank distance of the Guard vehicles.
Morgrim makes sure he and his boyz will get into striking distance, calling down the Waaagh! and running into assault range...
...and assault in...
...with mixed results. The Painboy is cutdown by the Heavy Weapons Team for just the loss of a wound...
...but Morgrim and his boyz easily explode the Psyker Chimera for only the loss of a single boy. However casualties to the embarked Psykers and nearby Heavy Weapons Team send both of them running off the battlefield!
Meanwhile on the other flank, Skarag's Nob only manages to shake the Veteran's Chimera.
IG: 0 objectives (4 kill points)
ORKS: 0 objectives (6 kill points)
TURN 4
Undeterred, the Veterans disembark their shaken Chimera and prepare to reek revenge on Skarag, along with the other Armour which makes sure to move as well.
The objective in sight (and the Orks on the horizon), the right flank Guard move in.
Having been plagued with bad luck, Skarag's
KFF finally kicks in against the Veteran's meltas as three short range shots harmlessly bounce off the fickle Ork force field - DENIED!
The rest of the Guard shooting on the left flank is similarly unspectacular - resulting in a shaken Trukk and another dead Meganob.
While on the right flank the Guard take the opportunity the move further towards the objective and further away from their table edges - the Kommandos are still to make an appearance!
As if on cue, the Kommandos arrive! But manage to take casualties (including a Burna - aaargh!) approaching across the dangerous terrain that was the Vet's Chimera. Morgrim slowly moves his boyz forward towards the action while the Deffkopta repositions.
On the left flank Skarag and his boyz separate and disembark - the Leman Russ in the Nobz sight, the Veterans in Skarag's, whilst the remaining Meganobz advance on the stationary Chimera.
Shooting on the right flank sees the Veterans take heavy casualties (Mmmmm Burna!) Luckily for me they don't flee! (and are still viable for multi-assault goodness!)
While on the left flank, Skarag burns himself five Veterans
Everyone assaults in on the left flank...
...and the Kommandos manage their multi-assault against the remaining Veterans and Heavy Weapon Team on the right...
...with expected results.
On the left flank, the remaining Meganobz dispatch the Chimera, Skarag holds his own against the Veterans and the boyz Nob explodes the Leman Russ - the resulting explosion taking out 6 boyz! Ouch!
IG: 1 objective (4 kill points)
ORKS: 0 objectives (10 kill points)
TURN 5
The Guard on the right flank continue to keep their eyes on the objectives (and the encroaching Orks no doubt!)
While in a daring display of vertical (or should that be horizontal?) insertion, the Company Command Squad somehow end up on the centre objective... (that was a deep strike under the Vendetta, scattering 12" in the same direction that the Vendetta flat out-ed!) At this stage I didn't realise they weren't Troops, and could only contest, so I was a bit worried about this turn of events!
Shooting on the right flank is very lack lustre, felling a single Kommando amongst the rocks.
Meanwhile Skarag finishes what he started - the Veterans!
The remaining Orks move to stem the tide of Guardsmen. The Deffkopta flies over to deal with the Platoon Command Squad, the Kommandos continue to bear down on the blob squad, Morgrim detaches and moves towards the other Platoon Command Squad whilst his boyz continue to move up towards the right objective.
On the left flank, Skarag rejoins his boyz in their Trukk and move to the left objective, a lone Meganob legging it behind.
Shooting sees the Kommandos continue to thin out the stubborn blob squad with flame whist Morgrim's boyz leg it closer to the objective.
The Orks assault their respective targets...
...and claim (well, contest) the right objective!
VICTORY: ORKS!
IG: 0 objectives (4 kill points)
ORKS: 1 objective (13 kill points)
AFTERMATH
I think we rolled a sixth turn, but didn't have time to play it (or endtransmission was ready to concede...). The Guard only had three units left, and only one of those Troops, whilst the Orks had two troops left - one on an objective and one soon to be. For the Guard to claim a draw, the Platoon Command Squad would need to down the Deffkopta and consolidate/move/run towards the central objective - so we just played out that combat...
Yeah - they lost the combat and were run down

Technically another
KP for the Orks!
I'm pretty sure this felt close, and considering the end objective tally I guess it was, but the Kill Points tell a whole other story! The Guard had some very unlucky breaks - literally - with the Ratlings, Psykers and a Heavy Weapons Team fleeing at the first sign of casualties. Meanwhile some important shooting also didn't pan out - the
KFF denying three landed short range melta shots (and then the Demolisher shell scattering off the Trukk to clip a Meganob) as well as the almost unscathed Kommandos (where the Nobz had suffered greatly). Certainly a lot more one-sided in the end carnage stakes! Hence the relatively positive report card for the Orks...
Da Dark Angelz (Orks)
The plan was to use my speed to deal with each wave as it arrived. Never happened. Instead, the Ork forces were split up and just had to deal with each wave on their own. Some good luck, along with reduced fire output from the Guard due to having to move, kept this in the Orks camp. I don't think I can claim any special tactics or generalship for this one!
At least I played the Kommandos better - though again - luck helped (that the Veterans didn't flee).
Report Card:
Morgrim "Da Lion" Grimork (Da Warboss): Solid effort. Looked like he was going to have little effect on the battle early on, but eventually came through (not to mention using his leadership and all first wounds on his squad bouncing off his Megaarmour!) Kills: Chimera (and by extension Psykers and Heavy Weapon Team), Platoon Command Squad
B
Skarag Mekslag (Da Big Mek): Solid effort.
KFF did its job. Single handedly took out a Veterans squad. Kills: Veterans.
KFF: 3 melta shots!
B
Da Deffwingz (5 Meganobz) in a Trukk: Basically got shot to pieces - but at least they didn't run! Kills: Chimera
C
Snikrot's Kommandoz: Lucky to not have the Veterans run, lucky to survive a turn of Guard fire late on. Held down the right flank, even with a latish appearance. Kills: Veterans, Heavy Weapons Team, Blob
A
Grimskab Badwort (Da Painboy) and Da Inna Circul (5 Nobz) in a Trukk: Unlucky to take the full brunt of early Guard fire (or should that be unlucky to be thrown at a flank by themselves unsupported?), but did what they needed to. Kills: Ratlings, Chimera, Blob
B
Da Warboss' Taktikal Boyz in a Trukk: Got the Warboss where he needed to be. Would have taken an objective turn 6. Kills: Chimera (and by extension Psykers and Heavy Weapon Team). Objectives: 1 (in turn 6)
B
Skarag's Taktikal Boyz in a Trukk: Did what was asked of them. Kills: Leman Russ. Objectives: 1
B
Rav'nwing I: Minor impact in the end. Didn't get shot down! Kills: Platoon Command Squad leftovers
C
Rav'nwing II: How embarrassing! Did manage to draw some fire beforehand though. Kills: 2 Guardsmen ;(
