I am aiming to scratch build a whole speed freak force. And yes the bikers will have Segways.

AM I CRAZY?

First cab off the rank. My Deff Dread.

What started out as a toilet paper roll ended up looking like this.

How is the scale? I'm not really sure I just picked up whatever bits I could find and cobbled it together and ended up with this.

Before priming!

With no arms he looks like a T-Rex!

I surprised myself here. I was expecting it to look nowhere near as good as it does now. It was originally meant to be a Killa Kan but it looked too big. So now it is a Deff Dread.

^Oh man I forgot to drill out the Assault Cannon, wait I mean big Shoota! I will do that in the morning.

Aufwiedersehen! I'm going to bed now.

Haha! Love it, reaaalll Orky.

Though, Dreads are a bit slow for Speed Freaks, don't cha think? You needz a big Fighta-Bomma!

Thanks for commenting everyone.
@ Bigfish and flamingwalnut I know this guy doesn't really fit into a speed freaks force, but he is just one of the first thing I attempted to scratch build. He probably will not make it into my army list, he was just to see if I could do it. And also with the bits I had at the time I was just inspired. Today i will work on a segway prototype.

@Gavvin- I kinda like the legs the way they are they just look Orky to me. I might make some changes on my next one though. They look skinnier in the pictures.

@ Bigfish (again) - he was originally designed to be a Killa Kan but then I thought he was just too big. Is he too big? Then I just added a screw and hoped that would count as kinda another weapon.

@Flaming walnut (again) - I do have a scratch built Fighta Bomma underway at the moment. For the Ork vehicle building competition.

Here is a WIP pic I'm waiting on some bits, mainly guns to finish this one.

Oh, and if anyone is sad about the lack of segways here at the moment. Here's my segway rough rider!

Cya people later!

i think you are onto something good looking with those wheels...

and i do like the fact that you used the so called "cheap and easy material" cardboard here^^ that is oldstyle and so classic!

respect!

tut will be nice... the most important bit here is what you used for the most basic shape of the wheel...is that by chance a button?

Made in au
Scarred Ultramarine Tyrannic War Veteran

Very close with the button there. The basic shape for the wheel is a 5 cent coin (it's Australian so I don't know any overseas equilivents). But here is all you need to know about it and more!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_five-cent_coin
EDIT; I didn't know that the bullion value of the coin is about 6.5 cents, so I could hoard 5 cent coins and then melt them down for a 30% profit. I found a way to pay for my minis. *starts hoarding 5 cent coins*
I just used it as a stencil and cut around it to create cardboard discs that were the basis of my wheel.

is it made as a fully form? so like a sandwich of cardboard to support the shape? if not you are very brave... if so, then you are very clever^^

I made two cardboard discs and then..... You know what, I do feel like making some more wheels. So I will make a tutorial.

if i was you i´d make the shape out of sandwiched together discs of cardboard... thus you would gain more structure and support... then you could make the wheel even turnable...but i guess that would be too much... you will of course mount the segway to a base

but tut is always nice!

That's a GREAT idea I could make turning wheels. So I could roll my segways along the battle field while making loud car... no, segway noises with my mouth. And the way you describe it is exactly the way I make them. Three discs sandwiched together. Even now it will be possible to make turning wheels with the wheel I have already made Just hadn't thought of it until now. I need to find some way to make it stand up without a base!

i would add a very small wheel for the support...thus you could get away with the look... a hidden one... beneath some gizmos of engines and stuff...so you get a trifolded stand... is that understandable? hide the third wheel...

Viktor von Domm wrote:cool work, and very good tutorial by you!

Thanks you two.

I haven't done much in a while but today I was all alone in the house so I had pleanty of time to paint and build without interruption.

I wasn't as productive as I could have been today I mostly watched TV (good thing I have Foxtel). I watched a lot of Shark documentaries on Discovery channel, it's Shark week.
I also watched an awesome movie Centurion. It's now one of my favourite movies. I recommend it to anyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centurion_(film)

As you guys didn't come here to hear my life story I will show you what you did come here for.

A Segway with moving wheels. WIP! With a Nob Rider,

It's still not done as I ran out of super glue and can't finish him at the moment.
I still have the mud guards to finish and then I just have to Ork it up a little bit more, but hopefully you can see where I am going.
I'm not 100% happy with the look so far and I'm open to helpful criticism, ideas and suggestions that will help me improve the look of the segway.

I also finished my Waaagh Dakka Kommando. 'Nobwort Snikgit' of Da' Dirty Duzzen,

He has been sitting on my desk for months now just waiting to be painted. I have been too lazy do so before now.

He was just one of these things I just had to get painted. I managed to convince myself to paint him by trying out a few new and different techniques. First off I primed him white instead of my usual black which I never do on any of my armies any more and have never done so with Orks, I also tried painting a different Ork skin tone differing from my normal one (I like this new one better) and finally I found a new way to make realistic looking gore (by far the most awesome thing I discovered while painting him). The gore is red gore mixed with PVA, Gloss Varnish and some fine modelling sand. I think it looks awesome.

Enough of me waffling on. Here he is.

Well that's all for now folks!

Until next time.

ok, mate, one for almost completing the segway...like i said i think the concept is quite the hammer! but what gets me thinking is the width of the thing... compared to your IG segway it is almost duble in width? orky bulking aside i think it is a bit too wide for the thing... but the length is right i think...

some fleshing out of some points and this beast is heading out to crumble the enemy!

your Kommando look very good, the skin i really like, goes to show that whit is the beter priming color...at least for me^^

the only downside..if at all is the bit weak (colorwise) back of the model... the backpack and specially the stickgrenades need a bit of breaking up i think... some think to not have just a heap of scrappy metal... a bit of weathered green on the grenade part maybe?

as for the gore effect...THAT! lokks suitable gory to me^^

cheers, vik

Thanks Vik! This is a Nob Segway rider so I made it a little bigger than a normal segway rider would be. I still have to finish it but haven't got the glue to do it. I need to buy some more ASAP!

White is a great colour to prime with. I will deffinatly test it out a little more. I might touch up the kommando later, but for now I think he is done. I have many other hobby things that need attending to.

Thanks man. And I may have looted just a few Orky bits!

Sorry for the lack of updates. I don't really like to post here until I actually have some work done. Although I will do one now as I need some help!
As I have just bought 'Space Marine' the X-BOX game I don't think you will see much work from me for a while.

I picked it up real cheap at $38. You Americans (and most non Australians) might not think that is quite as amazing as I do, but believe it or not Games Workshop products are not the only thing we Australians pay top dollar for.

The RRP was $110 for 'Space Marine' and the next cheapest I saw it was at $78!

While playing the game I felt a strong urge to convert this awesome looking dude from the game.

I want to make him look huge as he did in the game so I was maybe thinking using a LOTR troll or someting.

Has anyone seen this done before?

Or does anyone else have a better idea?

Feedback will be appreciated!

Oh and,

dunno how bif a troll of LotR might be... but i`d start with an ogre body... i think you could get these for not too much from a bit site... and then you start building the gear around that model...i´d use some terminator bits too or even scratchbuilt all the weapons with sprue and earbuds...cool idea by the way...

and our countdown is already by three days^^ my kids wake me up with that countdown each day^^
