I know you've used Sentinels as bases for your Greater Daemons and other beasties, but wouldn't Wraithlord legs with GS'ed hooves look better on the Slaaneshii Daemon Prince[ess]?

Wraithlord legs would look more fittingly Slaaneshi. But the theme of the army is that it's an IG regiment, possessed by daemons. So I have to find a way to make IG models work for me.

So, the latest creature has been growing, taking form, taking stealthy, insidious possession of its mortal vessel.

I started working in tendrils and sinews of daemon tissue....

You can see here that I trimmed the Sentinel legs down, slicing and paring the mechanical stuff down to something closer to "leg" proportions...

Again, the working idea here is: possession makes the sentinel host into a nest of snakes... But in a fittingly Slaaneshi way, I wanted to suggest the act of possession as a carnal union, the king snake coiling around and into its host...

And then, for a weapon attack, I added the beginning of a tail...

A big tail, in fact, to help counterbalance the thing compositionally (and in terms of weight)

There's still a lot of work to do on the tail...

I'm starting to like the lines of the thing better -- the way it looks poised to strike. But there's still a lot of layering to do:

The "feet" of the thing will be daemonized -- I'll cut away the awkward footprint of that Sentinel foot, and sculpt in something suitably hooved or taloned.

And I need to work up something for the gaps in the neck join.

And weave in more tendrily snakey stuff up and down the line of the thing.

So there's a long way to go......

Thanks for looking.

Great work as usual

Do you think perhaps, you could put some poor bastard ensnared within the 'nest'? Maybe the sentinel pilot...

Its just i was looknig at your other daemon princes, and wasn't there a corpse of their pilots in both of 'em?

I have got a idea how you can do the feet on the Slaaneshi daemon prince. You could do something like snakes/tentacles coming out of the ball joints and entangling the base with them?

The real threat to the imperium is not:

it is :
92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.
95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GENERATION 6: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Oh, Tinfoil, will you be going to Boston Brawl?

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Man I thought it was tonguing itself from that last photo. That would own.

Still, it looks pretty awesome. I agree that you need to work the tendrils up the body a bit... have you looked at NAVARRO's 'nids? He has some cool organic mesh base stuff going on:

I'm thinking no arms -- to preserve the sinuous lines of the thing.

At first I was thinking no, but your suggestion is tempting. I may try something. Because it does seem very Slaaneshi. And very much in character for the Harrowed, too. Hmm....

I'm liking that idea a lot. In fact, I think I may try that. Thanks!

Thanks all for the kind words, the input, the ideas. This is all very helpful.

I've made more progress on the latest of the Harrowed Princes -- though not enough yet to merit a proper update. Another day or two and I'll post some WIP.

You give yourself too little credit. I always esteemed you as one of the best regulars at DP.

wft? This thing again?!?

I’ve let this project log slip into a loooong hiatus – largely because progress on the Harrowed has been slow, sporadic and scattered for months now.

Until recently. A few weeks ago, I picked it back up again in earnest, and I think I’ve managed to work up a modest degree of consistency and measurable progress. So I’m reviving the thread.

For both narrative and tactical reasons, I’ve wanted to field heralds in chariots for awhile now – particularly Tzeentch chariots. But I also wanted to continue with the themes and ideas that have shaped the Harrowed from their early days, and I couldn’t really see any conversions that would work thematically. Eventually I just got disgusted with myself and decided to start building without really knowing what I would be making. I’d just plunge right into shaping the thing, with no clear idea of how it would turn out. Which seems like the daemonic way to proceed, I guess.

So I began. The logical place to start was with a ruined sentinel – a platform that after all had already spawned a greater daemon (the Bloodthirster) and several daemon princes. As usual, I built the basic cab, then went to work with matches, pliers, and needles. My idea was to try to create the effect of the machine rippling and ripping apart under the onslaught of chaotic energies.

After warping the thing a bit, I glued in some corpse-cart bits to provide a human victim -- the possessed pilot of what had been a sentinel, now serving as a writhing vessel for a Tzeentchian daemonic herald.

After a few rounds of work, the creature-construct like this:

And from the side:

Then I added the rest of the pilot/possessed and worked in more greenstuff, producing:

And then moar greenstuffery…

I’m thinking of working in a c’thullu-type snout/head for the thing:

… but I’m not sure whether or not that idea will stick.
In any event, to give an idea of where things are headed, here’s the creature/construct on a base, with the “head/snout” thing beside:

There are more WIP pictures in my Dakka gallery. And more to come in a few days.
Thanks for looking. Any feedback would be welcome.

I know, I'm not sure whether it's going to work, or just clutter up the model. If I can't work the head in here, I'll save it for another project, I guess.

Thanks for looking, folks.

As for the Cthulu themed heralds, Cthulu is always a cool choice... but honestly Id like to see more of those classic horror movie style giant eye-for-head people, like your one flamer... I could almost imagine simply a giant eye, bound to the corrupted sentinal, possibly, formally one of the eyes of the driver (tendrils leading out of the socket suggesting this), that just flys around warp zzapping things ! teehee!

Very cool man. I am really impressed with how far you get with a kit, some fire and some GS. The tortured pilot is just awesome looking, though I don't know how this is going to turn into a chariot. Still, that's half the fun!

Freakin' cool idea! Now I want to try that. Either on this chariot, or another one down the road.

And thanks for the warm words, Wherkind.

I’ve made progress on the first Tzeentch herald over the last few days, but only incremental progress – nothing really worth showing just yet.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working on a few other projects. Among them, a second Tzeentch herald, also on chariot. This time around, the warpcraft I executed on the sentinel cab made it look a bit like a face:

See it? Looks kind of like underwater amphibian king guy from that Star Wars movie? Not at all intended, but kind of cool.

Anyway, a few rounds of sculpting took me from:

… to:

There’s more to do on this, but I’m pleased with the way it’s shaping up.

And then, I’ve also begun work on Skulltaker on a Juggernaut. For those who haven’t seen my bloodcrusher conversions, they look thus:

Sentinel legs, spawn torsos, lots of greenstuff and cables and whatnot. Making the creatures look, I hope, like lumbering nightmares (not too fast) that rip $h1t up when they catch it. (My fluff figures they’re combat and industrial servitors, once slaved to the Imperial Guard, now possessed by daemons and pacted to the Harrowed.)

I want Skulltaker to look the same, but moar-so. So I’m taking the same basic carriage:

… giving him a meaner looking head, with tusks:

… and then “hands” melding double sets of fingers/claws (a mutation I’ve always wanted to work in somewhere):

Actually, that picture doesn’t really get the effect across, but you can get an idea from a more assembled stage:

And from another angle:

And another, showing the other mutated paw:

I don’t just love everything about this model, at this stage. He looks kind of over-the-top, and the pose is a bit stiff. Still, it’s fun.

In any event, I have a lot more work to do on this figure. It needs moar, MOAR greenstuffing, and cables, and doohickeys. Maybe some skulls, right? That seems appropriate.

Thanks for looking, and for offering enthusiasm, criticism, suggestions.
