I was just on the Minecraft Thread and I got a request for a login for Heresy Online. Just curious why this would be? There wasn't anything on the specific page that linked the two together, and I've never been on the site.

I had the same thing, though I don't know what thread it was on; I think it might be someone has something from Heresy Online in their signature in the threads we have viewed.

I have a feeling it has something to do with those stupid daemon adoptable things people put in their signature blocks.

Interestingly, Chrome doesn't prompt for anything - it just doesn't load the sig block. FireFox prompts for a login.

Judging by the login message, the Heresy page is down for maintenance, which probably means they have turned on authorization for users so that they can tinker with it and shut everyone else out. Or something like that.

I, too, share the feeling it's to do with the adoptables; the MC thread's page is only a few posts long, and the number of adoptables in mondo's signature correlates with what the source code brings up for that page:

The CSM page is rather cluttered, but it seems like Samus is the only person there with an adoptable, and there's only one instance of it in the source code for that page:

The adoptables aren't showing in the boxes, so it seems like an error over at heresy-online has caused them to go awry.

Yeah, I believe that's Samus's post. He's the only one there with anything that relates to heresey-online, and that something happens to be the broken adoptable in his signature.

The way I see it, we have very few effective options.

The adoptables are everywhere, and it'll be difficult and painstakingly tedious to track down everyone who has one. There's also no way I can think of to filter them out of sigantures temporarily. There's also no guarantee that a Dakka-wide announcement will do anything.

The only thing I can see working is disabling signatures for everyone until it's fixed, but we don't know if that's possible without nuking the singature contents altogether, or even what the consequences could be.

It might just be we have to grin and bear it until heresy-online can fix the problem.

Has anyone contacted H-O? I don't have an account there.

An account wouldn't help, the site itself is down for maintenance.

The only things that still work for them are Twitter and FB, although their FB page looks untouched by admins (though people are getting tired of the downtime) and only has 23 members.

Twitter's tweet box isn't large enough to explain the problem, either, and I'd rather have either Lego or Yak represent Dakka in this; it'd be far easier for both admin teams to work together instead of through a surrogate, so to speak.

On chrome, I haven't gotten any sort of window. It just blocks out the image.

As a general precaution, I don't log onto things unless I'm specifically on the page that requires it. It might be a good idea just to ignore it. Honestly, I don't know why I use daemon adoptables anymore, but it's such a high level, I can't bring myself to get rid of it!

I don't think that will fix it; I tried in the mobile-friendly theme which automatically blocks avatars and signatures from being displayed, but the code for them is still there and still triggers the pop-up.

I'll test the profile now.

Seems like it works; the profile option eliminates the signature coding altogether, as opposed to the mobile-friendly view which keeps it but hides the avatar and signature.

Obviously it would be preferable to have the fix, but as a short term solution it seems to be okay.

If there's a way to do it forum-wide it might be better though, as it stands only a handful of people (us) know what to do, and we can't exactly enlighten the entire forum ourselves.

Thanks for noticing this. Sorry it too me so long to get on to it. All links to heresy are autoreplaced for now, and I'll bring them back when their site comes back up, except all images hosted there will be blocked by default now because of this.
