Then surprisingly again it changed with the varnish. At first I was a little worried as even though the ink was dry it appeared to lift where I put the varnish at first. But, I did the same thing with the varnish as I did the ink so it ended up working together.

Made a pretty big mistake with the runes, not that anyone will notice unless I point it out. Got distracted midway through one of the sentences and ended up looping back to the line above it. Then I just went with it to the end.

Picture didn't seem to pick up the gloss of it... Silhouette idea didn't work out in the end, though still sort of looks like I may have got them in the end. Heads were really quick to paint as I wasn't going for the complete detail I usually go for, but to sort of have them half blend with the floor as well. As when the silhouettes didn't work out I figured the Daemons' physical form was being constructed there rather than emerging. At the moment I am unsure if I'll keep the runes in that pattern, make them branch out or add the second paragraph to the end of them. I'll be leaving it for the day now though.

Looks good.

The underside of that lid looks like there is plenty of space for a battery pack and some lights. Creepy glowing runes? Not sure how transparent the plastic is or how the primer/paint would stop the glow. Might be fun to shine a flashlight and see how the effect works.

Just a thought...

well... a small thought... i think you went a bid over board with all those many runes... i thought more like an explosion pattern with the runes... and way less...

Good work with the vortex cant wait to see it finished .
Also we never got that sob tutorial, but I can wait
For bloodletters you could convert some dark eldar wytchs.
As always keep up the good work.

Thanks.

@ Nevelon: There's about 5-10 mm clearance under the plate itself. Tried it with a torch, but not really quite sure of it.

@ Vik: Explosion pattern? Also yeah there are a few, I messed up so there are actually 20 more than there should be.

@ Hali: May use that letter idea, had a couple floating around in case I even get around to using them. I've got the SoB for the tutorial stripped. I'll see if I'll get around to it when this shield project is done. Sorry to make you and anyone else waiting on it wait, it's just white to me is either a do it if you feel like or not at all thing. It's tricky at times and likes to make sure you know it.

Added even more runes to it in the same spiralling pattern of the board. Then got all those runes up to their second stage, finished off the dirt and got the metal up to about 75% done. Then had the fun of trying to take a top down picture of the thing. The gloss liked to reflect and cast a glare on it. eventually worked out to take the picture from above it, looking down on it somewhat.

Metal thus far is just Tin Bitz, Dwarf Bronze followed up by a light drybrush of Boltgun. Still have to do a bit of a highlight on it, then to wash it back down to gold with sepia. Dirt was black, grey drybrush then a Bleached Bone drybrush.

Done now, which means a fair few pictures for this update.

It's about 10-10.5" across. Which means its diameter is about 1" smaller than the actual skyshield, but that creates more of a disadvantage than an advantage. That's not even counting the flaps which grant it an additional 1.5". Fair trade off for being ground level I suppose. Still not sure if that's another disadvantage or not, but I wasn't really thinking that way when I started it.

Surprisingly is not as crowded as you'd think in the end. This being a full Daemonette squad.

Then even enough room for a second.

It only starts to look crowded once I spread them out a bit more and throw in Iluni.

A keen eye would have noticed that there are 30 Daemonettes when I had so far only done 28. I painted one on the side while this project dried. Then another for a speed painting challenge.
The normal, or normal enough.

Then this one in about 45-50 minutes not including drying time.

hell...! the board looks simply stunning... way to go mate! what i love the most is the patches of grass... together with the drak ground and the glowy runes this is such a rich looking scheme!!! always amazes me!...

one minior thing tho... in the middle i think you could have done better... maybe you add some more lines and swirls in a negative way and ad a bit black for contrast? just a thought...

by the way... you know the terrain piece competition is open for everybody? that piece would totally qualify iirc...

and the speedpainted model proves that you can do quick and good looking!!!

Nice, the board/disk is great! As are the 2 other daemonettes

Thanks both.

Well if it can I guess I may enter it for fun. Runes are sort of like rivets in a way; never too many of them until you're out of room.

I did want a vortex, but it appears I got some oozy pit with mist or something.

Also some how the Tyranid Spore Mines have caught my eye. Was looking for something to use maybe as Plaguebearers (not planning on building them for a fair while, probably one of the last things if at all, but sort of good to have a general idea for when it comes time). I don't know, they just seemed interesting somehow and I figured they're not really something you tend to see too often as well. Just musing again somewhat randomly.

those nid mines could work... excellent conversion material by the way... all those pustule like looking stuff and all...

runes = rivets... hmmm... i have to think about that...

as for the mentioning of mist... how about you add some smokey mist sections to the board too? you could make a little OSL effect on the lower sections of the cotten wool...

I have to say that the speed demonette isn't that different from the normal one good work.
The portal is just very good can't wait to see more scenery if possible.
nid plaguebearers a very slaanesh way to do it.

keep up the good work

Thanks and hopefully I will keep it up.

So taking a short break as I do from time to time; prevents burn out. Then randomly hit with an idea; flicking through the codex later only added to it. Now I still have the grinder to do, though I'm still sourcing parts for that project. Mostly the issue with that is the pelvic area. I know how to do the legs, how to attach them, how to do the body, the weapons, the head. But, I just haven't figured out what to put between the legs and the torso. I had the idea to try and use an old mouse or something, but not sure on that. Anyway onto the concept.

This is the first one and it's sort of the one I like best at the moment. The ideas of the others are open to be combined though. More or less it's just the head or the tail being changed around.

They are to stand in as Flamers of Tzeentch. The name that's sort of stuck to me on them so far is Soulburners. The idea being they sort of slink around the battlefield and steal soulstones from fallen Eldar. Then they use the power from it to make their fire. Something like that. More or less I'm thinking when I do make my own unit as such, I should also probably try to give it a brief background; to bring it more to life.

I know how to do the body and the gems and eyes, but the harder part will be doing the head; more so if I go with the "wings" on the first one. Perhaps I could use left over Daemonette claws, cut in half, in place of them. Flamers are the same base size as Daemonettes after all, much smaller than Fiends. Also with the new FOC, I figured I can take at most 72 of them for only 2050 points... Not that I'd ever likely make that many. They go 3-12 per squad and take the same slots as the Fiends. I'd likely go with 6 per squad meaning at most I guess I'd have 12. Though there's nothing wrong with having more than that I guess.

And yes, the idea did hit me at first from Dragonair.

The item Evolite in the current games meant I could actually use it somewhat decently. Always disliked Dragonite, but liked its previous forms. When I think about it too conceptually these Flamers went from the musing inspired by Lampent to musing inspired by Dragonair. At least they'll fit in a bit more this way.

Also I'm going to promise that that SoB will be primed and started with the first prototypes for this. I dislike to prime singular infantry for some reason. If it's not a MC or Vehicle it has to bring friends.

Dragonair? Warhammer 40k? YES!!!
Have to say go with it the background is good and the
miniature is totally possible. Just a suggestion if you
make one breathing fire make it like the colour of the move
dragonbreath just to make it look more slaanesh.

Can't wait to see this project form

It's sort of like a rollercoaster with a questionable safety rating.

And of course it'll have pink/purple fire if any.

Helps if I finish those "clever" metaphors I guess.
As in it kind of looks cool and some will enjoy the ride, but we'll see how high the corpse pile is at the end I suppose. Yeah, was better unfinished.

Hopefully it'll be something like the Slaanesh mount at the end, but still different of course. They'll be smaller anyway.

ah now i see what you are aiming for... well i am still new to chaosy stuff it seems... that rider on that wormy never came across me yet...

I ended up going with a slightly elongated snout. The head seems to be a tad big as does the gem, but the body itself inserts inside a hole that's in the head. Sort of like a multipart kit.

When shaping the face it seemed Snivy came to mind as well. So they're kind of snooty looking.

Which I think is a touch better than just having a long face, it sort of added to the pose as well. The horns I like and would keep going with, however I'll run out of them after about another 2. Only 9 short that way so the "leaders" can have these horns but the others get a new design.

Which as well came to mind after training my recently acquired Milotic during that small break I took.

So now they'll be a three in one design.

The eyes however are a slight problem, I may need to find a way to make them more consistent. At the moment I've been sculpting the head with holes for the eyes and then, once it has cured a bit, adding in small balls of greenstuff for the eyes themselves. I may have to try with the smaller gems that came along with the ones I've been using for the fiends head's. But I'll need to check their size compared to it first. For obvious reasons of course.

Edit: Also forgot the scale shot. Usually have these for everything.

As you can see it's about the right size, just needs to stretch up a little. Wouldn't want to run into that fun brick wall of someone thinking I'm trying to model for advantage. Which I am; but not in gaming sense but rather to fit my theme, have a more unique force, to try something new and also it saves money somewhat.

Yep and kind of glad I'm not going with the Lampent/Chandelure idea I had a while back. Can't see how it would have fit.

Though it was interesting to finally have a replacement for Gengar which also freed up another slot in my team.

Yes, that is a good thing, I doubt a flying chandelier or lamp would be very slaaneshi
Unless it was pink... and had loads of tenticles and claws...
Of course, stilling spirits and souls (something chandelure is ment to do in the background) is VERY chaos-y...

Oh god what have you done to me, now I'll start comparing 40K characters to pokemon...

Which is actually got me to think of it in the first place. Was going to be the right colours, yet it still felt more Tzeentch in the end unfortunately.
