Very good work on the necron your painting is looking good as always

Thanks.

With the release of 6th seemingly making pure assault seem just a little too crazy and because it also seems I may have nothing to do in the shooting phase, time for some better looking horrors to join in. Gives me a more durable unit, no where near an anvil, but they do have a 4+ save instead of the Daemonettes 5+. So they're just a more stronger type of fragile.

It also seems this way I got another type of troop unit that fit the theme with little to no effort. I had planned to perhaps get a Bloodletter stand in, but 6th ed hit and so far says that's not such a great idea for the moment. Only got one box so there's still another 11 to go, but that means two units of six; as it seems from what I've read horrors want to be in small units if I remember correctly. Either way seeing how many of these I can get done for a game on Wednesday, or perhaps I'll do those last five Daemonettes. Sort of hope to get my first game of sixth in with everything painted, but blog lasts longer if they're not and they'd probably look better.

is that an actual deamonette? looks rather like a dryade... which is a clever thing to use... !!!

Yep, it's just a Dryad painted the same way for Daemonettes.

the funny thing is when i wnated to make a nid army... some months ago...(changed my mind then too^^) i thought dryads would be a pretty good way to do some nid conversions then...and i actually think that way still^^

Smart use of the dryads, maybe you could make purple/pink flames on the branches.
how about some nurgle conversions, because of the new rules I think people will want the feel no pain

Lady of the Lake

Maybe, kind of stumped (lol...) on how to make a suitable conversion. As it is with the theme those fiends will probably get replaced. As for the flames, I had thought of it, but I sort of like them as is.

This one obviously has a Bolt of Tzeentch.

I'm hoping the subtler parts of the blue OSL can bee seen in the picture, it took a couple of goes to get it to show up decently.

Finally also got around to making a new signature to combine the two blogs. May have to redo it seeing how I wanted tall stuff in it which had to make it smaller overall, but I wanted it to have a mix of everything. Here's the full picture to it as well before I started resizing it more and cropping out parts. You can also see the old scratch built Tzeentch "plaguebearers", that's currently as far as I am on how to incorporate them into this force. Probably make them more or less the same, but with pink and purple hues. I would be tempted though to make them look fancier I suppose with maybe gems or precious metal amongst them. But, I think there are probably better things I could use to represent them. It just sort of needs to show the sturdiness or their regenerative capability more or less. Also has a nice shot of the dryad I just finished in it.

the new dryad is even better looking... way less human looking and thus more to the part!

Thanks and welcome.

Got this one done in time for the game today.

The pose wasn't quite intentional when I assembled it, but I like it.

Now onto the battle report recount. I don't remember it well enough to write a decent report. Should start taking notes as I go along instead. As well as at least providing a picture over view. This was also the first time I used this army in a GW. Kind of glad people seemed to like it and I didn't have a single issue over it, even with staff. Some even said the fiends were cooler than the actual models.

1250 point game
My List
KoS - Musk
6 Fiends - Unholy Might
15 Daemonettes
15 Daemonettes
6 Horrors - Bolt of Tzeentch
6 Horrors - Bolt of Tzeentch
Daemon Prince - Daemonic Flight, Iron Hide, Mark of Slaanesh, Aura of Aquiescence, Transfixing Gaze

Their list
Archon with Incubi in a raider
Wyches in a raider
2x warriors in raiders
Deldar plane
Deldar birdmen

They won the roll off and decided to go first. My preferred wave was the KoS, Fiends, Daemonettes and Horrors. I once again failed to get my preferred wave with a one again.
Rolled for mission and we got relic hunt, the relic placed in a crater in the center of the board. For my warlord power I got the furious charge in their deployment zone. S7 I11 (I know it wouldn't gain any here) KoS as long as I get up in their face (like I want), what could go wrong?

Turns out the Daemon Prince. Basically he showed up, scattered and just missed terrain. Avoiding dangerous and a mishap, right? Nope triggered as outbreak and he took a wound anyway. Next turn the scourge (birdmen) come on and shoot at him. Score about 5-6 wounds on him, I roll nothing but 1s and 2s meaning he's gone. He literally saw about ten minutes of game time today at most.

Horrors were not so bad, a lot of missed bolts but the first squad did end up in melee with some wyches. Then proceeded to either win or tie combat until there was one lone wyche running for their board edge for the rest of the game. Horrors are basically like fire warriors when it comes to melee. Which means basically, their guys had daggers and my guys had rolled up newspapers.

Iluni never made it to their lines, however she did get to have some fun with the Archon. His raider came up to shoot at her, she charged at it and ripped it open. His guys charge at her, she kills three and wins. Then she kills the other three. Left on one wound she ends up fighting the Archon one on one. He's T3 so if I get one wound through he dies instantly, bypassing his feel no pain. Of course like most Archons he took the item that gives him a 2+ invulnerable save until he fails it. so at I10 Iluni makes her first swing against the Archon. He has to roll one two saves. First roll... is a one. If he had made those he would have killed Iluni easily as she did only have a single wound left.

Daemonettes sort of stroll around the place taking care of the Deldar vehicles fairly easily. Seeing as how now thanks to rending being AP2 I get 2+ against their open topped vehicles on the damage charts. At first he was shooting me and seemingly had the game won, however once I managed to get into melee and continue to do so the game quickly turned to my favour.

In the end I think only the lone running wych remained. I had 9 (6 + 3 for relic) points to his 5 (4 + 1 for first blood). I also never got to see how flying monstrous creatures go. I'm thinking I may need to get started on the Soulgrinders. It is clear that though I can still have the assault heavy force I initially wanted, I will have to include elements of shooting. I'm not quite sure how the force would match up to something like a gunline or even bastions. Simply I think for that I'd just have the Fiends and Keeper and a smart opponent would realise this and simply put a stop to it. I already have some crappy concept art for the grinder. In fact the only reason I probably don't have one yet is I haven't found a doll for it and I think I need to get some more greenstuff first. Already got the leg parts and of course the cables. For which I have some bass strings around somewhere or I can just use wire and twist it in a way to make it look like cable bundles.

The armour is of course to be riveted to the grinder's body. Because rivets. I'm not sure if I can, but I'll be looking for more places for rivets as well. Perhaps on the lower legs and invent some "chaos" rivets or spikes, maybe not. As for the hair you can see my crappy attempt to draw it off to the right.
It'll hopefully be something like the FW KoS.

Though probably not as long of course. It will probably need a melee weapon as well. I have a couple swords around that could probably work for it. But I had originally thought to use the CSM Slaanesh banner top attached to a chain for the weapon. This bit.

If not one of the leftover ones from the Daemonettes. Seeing as how I'm not running them with icons now as they don't seem to need them and I have a spare. They are both roughly the same size though.

the pose is looking good on the new mini... tho i have to point out the rather big moldline on the tigh...

the souldgrinder idea is a good way to draw the attention of the league for more choasy stuff^^ have you already done some groundwork in that matter? if understood you right you started with those legs? for any scratchbuilding ideas... have you considered plastic cloth pegs? thy have these nice anti- glide textures on their gripping points... and could help you with some of the more obvious details... also i think they would take good to glue... if you stick to your drill rod methode tho i think you will be on safe ground anyway^^

Didn't see the line until the pictures.

None of the legs are done, but I have I think half of one I did ages ago for an Eldar titan that never took off. Sort of got the same basic idea from it. Can't find any good pictures, but got some cheapish disposable razors for their handle shape. But the pegs do give me an idea for "feet". As it was they were going to go to a point of sorts, but maybe if I can tie it in or even make feet they may work.

Looks like I was there two years ago. Must have been where I got the idea in the first place.

This one is a touch disappointing at the moment, but pretty early into its construction and with no planning beyond getting the measurements for the actual Skyshield and finding a lid somewhat close enough to the size of it (though maybe 1-2" shorter diameter). So far I think painting is going to pull this all together at the moment. I'm trying to keep it flat for transportation reasons (it can fit in the case where the list and codices go without issue, probably even protect the books). But the idea I had for it is as a summoning circle, like the display board I made earlier. Perhaps I'll cut some spare Daemonette heads in half and have them sort of coming out of the center. I don't expect them to look entirely clear so I can paint the rest of the body somewhat.

At the moment though it looks like a frisbee covered in sand.

I guess the idea hit me after seeing that -=]_,=- comp, however it won't be entered into it seeing how it won't be based itself. Sort of hope to give it a bursting out of the ground look in the end. I've already built up on it a little more after this picture, it's now just sitting aside to dry before the next pictures which I'll probably get up tomorrow or something Until then I guess it's back to painting one of those last four Daemonettes.

using a frisbee... now that is a cool idea... hmmm.... that gets stored into my long term memory for sure!!!

the idea to use some upcrawling bitz i think is pure win!!! i bet this will be pure gold! a bit of some added GS swirls would be good too!!!

It's not a frisbee, but it'd make a decent cheap one.

Well the lid is drying from some more work on it. Looks a fair bit the same so no pictures of it. However somehow I managed to get two Daemonettes done for this update.

The eye on this one though... Didn't come out quite right in the picture.

Somehow they both look worse in pictures than they do in person.

I'm also down to the last two Daemonettes now, well out of the 30 I have so far. Maybe I'll add some more later, but the Horrors are taking the space of a third squad at the moment and adding something my army didn't have. Small sort of alpha strike units. More or less a small "sacrificial" unit to buy the others some time when they come into play.

Hopefully I'll get this terrain done in time for the group shot I plan to do when all the Daemonettes are done.

The left knee (from the viewer's perspective) of the bottom one looks a bit strange. Also, it looks like you've painted their hair except for the bottom of it. I take it this is deliberate, but it looks a bit strange.

Other than that though, great work!

Yeah, none of the Damonettes have the underside of their hair painted.

Might fix up that second one though.

the title somehow made me look for a double headed daemonette...

tho good looking... but i think a tad bit brighter than your rest?

Made in au
Lady of the Lake

First one is a touch brighter I guess. Didn't have many with that blue skin tone, so guess I needed another.

The lid dried enough for me to get back to work on it. Grabbed some spare heads, cut them in half, then glued them in the center. Even got half an arm reaching up. The nice thing about this lid I guess is the lip around the edge of it, gives a bit of clearance for these things without having to worry about them being broken off in transport. I actually had enough spare heads (dryads alone come about 4 to a frame with maybe 8 heads at least. 3 frames in a box. ), but other models have to actually walk around on this and keeping it to a smaller amount may look better in the long run. Hopefully you can see them clearly enough in the picture. The thing itself is slightly bigger than the shelf I use for picture taking.

The plan is to do something similar to that display board, but to have some sort of swirling OSL vortex in the center. So these will be painted as normal before the OSL glow from the portal is added to them.

As it seems ready for priming now I guess I have to figure out some colours for it. Runes were going to be glowing pink, so I was thinking given the texture of it I could try to make it a darkish slate with the rim a pale gold. Was going to try a different technique for the slate itself, painting it up then washing it down using a sponge and some black ink. Not sure on how that'll go though.

To help this is what I'm picturing for the slate.

However just not tiled. Anyway later on I guess I'll have to figure out if I will add gloss varnish to it, to give it a polished look or just leave it flat.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And primed, ready to go for painting. Which I sort of figured from the start would be what'd pull this all together more.

I also took a scale shot of it to try and get across the idea of the size of it. The heads may have helped, but this is better still.

I guess if I make a large model I could track down more of these and use them as bases. Not sure if I already mentioned it, but it actually has some sort of structure to it; some sort of supports in the ridge which makes it fairly solid. As far as bases go of course. The scale shot was also sort of a test to see if I placed the heads in such a way that'd allow stuff to sit on them without issue.
Of course I'd prefer it if nothing did stand on them, it's nice to make room for it as well. As people probably know about how annoying it can be to try and balance a model on some awkward piece of terrain; watching it slide or tumble over and over.

now that is suitable mystic looking! the primed view is already cool looking and the slight glossy effect gives it a bit of an oily lake... slate will look very good... in fact the oily look could also be a good idea now that i think of it...

have you by the way pinned the heads? otherwise i imagine they could fall of quite easily?

that is a fine looking terrain piece and i really like where you are going with that...!

Made in au
Lady of the Lake

Didn't pin them as the material was sort of thin, figured they wouldn't hold any better that way. May regret it later, but the surface has slight texture to it and I scored the surface of the head's that met it. Hopefully it should hold out.

Anyway done with this for today. Stippled codex grey over it... Took so long.
Then the usual treatment for the sand, no other colours yet. Sort of ended up with more of a granite look somehow at the moment. Not that I mind seeing as I was aiming for something around slate/granite anyway. Something to make it look a little interesting.

After those primed pictures, I think I'm going to go with a glossy look to the stone. Have to track done some foam or a fine sponge to do the ink work for this, but that can wait for tomorrow.

Foam from blister packs is sort of an option, though a bit more coarse that what I'm after.

At the moment it sort of reminds me of an oil pit.

Also the underside structure I was mentioning before. Not much, but it does help I guess.

now that is already pretty good looking... a bit of gloss added and you could even call the groundwork done...

of course i want to see how you do the swirl and all those nioce runes you do so well!!!

Made in au
Lady of the Lake

Finished doing the inking. Ended up going with foam from a blister pack. One thin bit for applying the ink to the surface, then the rest of it to lightly wipe it in a circle.

Some places are kind of screwed by going over them while still wet or something, but that just kind of makes it interesting.
I also painted the parts of the heads that are not flesh black. I'm also considering putting the gloss down before the runes since I figure their OSL will work a touch better over it than under it. I guess the next bit is to start working on the swirling part in the center and also to translate some runes. Probably could get away with painting the silhouettes in purple then building the pink over the top, hopefully leaving the completed vortex with faint shadows underneath. Then I also have a game coming up for it not tomorrow, but maybe the day after or the one after that. Probably not going to rush it, but I would like to have it finished for it.

the ink even amplified the look from recently... great looking...in the far right corner there is a nice lil swirl already!
