they took the tragic fall of Fulgrim to his daemon sword and just changed it to "Oh no! I was only possessed for a little bit, but I got better. Now I'm back and I'm totes evil and I meant to kill my BFF Ferrus rather than being tragically forced to! Let's go kill Big E whilst we twirl our collective mustaches!".
Why change something like that? Is he going to staple a baby to his head next?

I'm right there with you, HBMC. My personal opinion is that the short story made the novel essentially worthless . I now feel like my time was wasted reading what was otherwise an excellent novel.
Spoiler:
If they had handled it differently, like for example, the imprisoned Fulgrim made a pact with Slaanesh to retake his body from the daemon, sure, or that it wasn't really a daemon at all but Fulgrim had multiple personalities or somesuch, ok. But the whole thing was ridiculously handled. "Silly Daemon! I was only joking about ending it all! Gimme my body back now!". Was utter trash and I feel like I got trolled.
Lessening the tragic death of Loken by bringing him back was a bad idea, I initially thought. But it was handled well and will probably have ramifications later in the series, so I can get behind that move.
Only good thing about the Fulgrim short story was Eidolon getting summarily dispatched, which was a suprise, as I thought he was alive nd well in 40k. But who knows, maybe he'll be brought back too, along with Ferrus..

I've never liked how Fulgrim got possessed in the first place, I don't know if this is going to make me more accepting of the situation or less.

I think people may have mis-interpreted the ending for Fulgrim in the Primarch's novella.
Spoiler:
It's Lucius that decides whether it is Fulgrim or not, and I think he sees the power he could have by siding with whoever it may be, but I believe the end of the novel Fulgrim is unchanged, but the rest of the Captains have been hoodwinked.

As I was reading the book, I became aware that ADB had followed a pretty clever arc with the books. In the first book, he made me care about a bunch of traitorous heretics. In the second book, he made me cheer for them when they succeeded. And in the third book, he started driving home what a bunch of degenerate, evil bastards they were, and how their redeeming qualities were nothing but a thin veneer over a rotting core. I was really starting to despise them all, towards the end. So the actual end, with Talos planning the destruction of his company all along, having had enough of the endless corruption, was awesome. And his death, perfect. I was a little miffed at how the Uzas/Cyrion plot ended, and how rushed it was in the book- I thought both characters were really interesting (especially Uzas) and would have liked to have seen that fleshed out more.) What really galled me though, more than anything, was the third epilogue. I just felt that it wasn't needed and I would have been much happier with the idea that it ended somewhat ambiguously. Flat out stating that yep, Variel was successful and Octavia and Septimus's son gains Talos's geneseed was, to me, extremely lame. Almost fan fiction. A shame, because the rest of the series was a brilliant example of how to write the evil and horror of the 40K universe well and still have it be satisfying and emotionally captivating the whole way through.

Spoiler:
Agreed, the third epilogue felt more like a lame nod to a future trilogy of novels. He also really hit home hard that these guys we grew to like and adore over the course of the arc are brutal murderers. That poor little girl hiding under her sheets is a point where he drove home, HA! See you like 'em now bub! But yes, meshing this all together gives you a nice rise and fall arc with everything tying together nicely. The vision of Uzas killing Cyrion, Talos showing Octavia the holographic emitter he got from the Throne of Lies drama and my personal favourite, one I kept wondering about throughout the novel: What happened to those Terminator suits they got from the Core? "Can I fire the cannon?" indeed. However, I also liked how some of these characters were sent off so to say. Xarl and his duel with that terminator? God-damn-awe-some. Mercution, my personal favourite also got a well, wouldn't say great send off, but he went out doing something awesome. I agree on the Uzas/Cyrion plot ending, but I'm actually cool with that. It fits into the setting of the third story perfectly. Shame to see First Talon go, but its for the best, I'd hate to see Talos and co. being turned into a sequel factory like Gaunt and Caine.

Spoiler:
I agree, I loved the story arc. I thought it worked out incredibly well, it was tightly written and pretty much every loose end got wrapped up. Even the Uzas/Cyrion plot was finished well in my opinion... I actually was upset when Uzas died and wanted to see Cyrion suffer. The fact that Cyrion managed to get out even a half-hearted apology before dying was unexpected but satisfying.
As for the epilogues, I didn't expect any at all. The first one was ho-hum and would have been an anti-climactic way to end the series. Thus I was glad for the second epilogue, which was nice to see but didn't feel like a fitting conclusion. Septimus and Octavia's epilogue was a fake-me-out happy ending, and the series couldn't go out that way. The third epilogue was exactly what everyone wanted to see - evil ascendant, the Night Lords coming back with a vengeance, Talos' tragic legacy living on. Reading it, I was practically giddy... yes it was a bit too expository and a little fan-boyish, but what can I say? I was really hoping things wouldn't be completely over, and ADB delivered.
Personally I think the fanboy ending was as explicit as it was to satisfy the fans without needing any sequels, instead of opening the door for one. The third epilogue caught things up 100% to "present day" in the 40k universe, and was clear enough that we can all imagine for ourselves what happens next. Let's just hope ADB really does leave it at that. I don't particularly want to have the Soul Hunter trilogy marred by following it up with a Talos Jr. sequel.

Just a request, can people please preface discussions of spoilers - if the spoiler is the 1st sentence - with a sentence of nonsense (calling me some kind of hurtful name if you wish) or whatever (e.g. a sentence say "don't read this brah, it'll spoil ________ novel for you and I want to go to heaven, not do that"), so that way the text preview won't reveal the contents of the spoilers.
At least until I've read the above novels
I fear I may have had the ending of Reflection Crack'd spoiled for me already.
This means myself and others can still scan the thread for news, without fear of spoiling. Thanks.

Further thoughts on the end of Void Stalker:
Spoiler:
lol, Larry Stu. I agree with you, but it kind of reinforces my idea that ADB doesn't intend to follow this up. He's too good an author to try to write a novel around a "Larry Stu" character, but it's perfect if you want to really bookend a long series and leave no doubt as to what happens next. The character worked for the length of that scene and not a page more. Just enough to get you to go "Ohhhhhh, damn!" It's like an extra thirty seconds of footage after the credits in a horror movie, where you learn that not only is the monster not dead, it's back and badder than ever, the main characters are about to die, and - scene.

WRT Void Stalker.... I want more back stories, like when Roven and the other guy were part of First Claw.
A few shorts involving them would be awesome.
Spoiler:
I thought the epilogue was a good finish. Did anyone else catch that he was Decimus... 10. Where is 9?
I really liked the original First Claw guy (Sah Tall, or something?) with the Lascannon sniping, and "Freem!"
I want to see more of that guy.
I like A D-B's skill with the sharp comments and humorous events that still fit the characters and setting.
Like the comments made about Talos shooting a moon to pieces.
I would really like to see A D-B do more with the big names of Chaos.
Spoiler:
The scenes with Abaddon and Huron in the previous 2 books were priceless.
Especially First Claw's reaction to the Hamadrya.

What I do like in general about the Night Lord novels, no spoilers here, relax chaps, is the interactions between the members of First Talon, how their personalities clash and how they somehow.. get along. Xarl telling the others to shut up, Mercution being that pessimistic co-worker, Cyrion making these really seemingly out of character remarks like "So.. how are you today?" or wisecracking during tense moments by doing or saying things an Astartes shouldn't or wouldn't say in other novels. Not that I object. I really like how the author takes serious moments and makes them either silly good or unforgettable. Like the axe-crazy Terminator from the first novel going "KNOCK-KNOCK! OH HI, HOW ARE YOU TODAY? I'M HERE TO KILL YOU BTW." and the classic I HEARD BOLTERS line.
Yeah, short stories would be grand!

I agree completely.. I think ADB writes characters better than anyone else at BL, or at least characters that you can empathise with.
Is it wrong that I care more about the characters in the NL books than any I have read about describing 'loyalists' ? Yet, that is his skill as an author.

The grand vision of the Warmaster’s plans were laid bare in the office today, when we were joined by the High Lords of Terra (well, the authors of the Horus Heresy anyway).
Yesterday on Facebook and twitter, we asked you what you wanted to know about what the future holds for the Horus Heresy series.
Thanks to all 300+ of you who suggested a question, we picked the best of them and put them to authors Dan Abnett, Aaron Dembski Bowden, Chris Wraight and James Swallow.
What happened to the Death Guard? Did they turn to Nurgle on the way to Terra?
James:
Yes, but as with all things Chaos-y, it’s not quite that clear-cut. We have some really cool secret plans about how we’ll show the fall and what it means for the Heresy...
Will we hear any more about the Perpetuals: Trooper Persson and John Gramatticus are a couple of my favourite characters so far, I want more!
Dan:
We wouldn’t have put them in and not intended it to go somewhere very important.
Will we see more about the caverns in Calth?
Dan:
Yes, lots more and in different places. Know No Fear was just the beginning, we know that the battle raged for many years, and there's a certain showdown that fans of Graham's Ultramarines series have been waiting for...
When will we get more Night Lords?
Aaron:
Hypothetically, it’d be my next novel after Betrayer.
Hypothetically, it’d be called 'Nightfall'.
Hypothetically, it’d follow on right after 'Prince of Crows', which features in Shadows of Treachery.
When are the White Scars going to turn up?
Chris:
There is no way that the White Scars aren’t going to get their story told, and it’s something that has been given a lot of thought. Watch this space for more details!
Please tell us who the 2nd and 11th legions were and why they were deleted from all records.
Dan:
It’s interesting you should ask that becau-
Sorry Dan, we’re out of time, no one wants to know that stuff anyway.
Thanks for sending in all your questions, I’m sorry we weren’t able to answer them all (these guys have novels to write you know!)
The latest Horus Heresy book The Primarchs is on sale right now, and you can check out the full range here.
Make sure you come back and visit the website tomorrow when you can download issue 20 of Hammer and Bolter which features a new Ciaphas Cain short story.

Better than nothing IMHO.
AD-B's going to be doing HH Night Lords and Chris Wraight will have a more prominent role within the series; both good with me.

I'm half way through the book and... wow, boy is it dark. Beautifully written as always by ADB, but the violence is almost too much at times, and thankfully there is a little relief in the odd injection of humour.
Also, the violence doesn't seem to lose its poignancy like so many BL books. Perhaps I'm a bit of a softie, but I've actually had to stop reading a few times just to have a breather!
Terminator armour FTW ... and the duel is one of my favourite 40k moments ever
