Hi All....

This is my completed trench piece "my first full scenic piece" .... tried to keep the paintwork muted and subdued to give an impression of the old WW1 images in B&W and Sepia ... Set on Vraks during the height of the uprising.... Traitor or Imperial.... there is no distinction...

Would love some C&C..... Thanks all,

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it! I am really happy with how it came out! Little more weathering and wear on the sandbags i think and it will be 100% done.

Thanks again!

Might be too late but, in this type of trench warfare bodies would be left in no mans land and buried under mud and left to rot in shell holes. Only to be brought back up when an explosion dug it up. So maybe add something like that to the piece? Maybe some vampire counts zombie heads and what not

I think the terrain itself is superb. However, I'm not so sure about the total grey look of the land. I understand that it may be grey for all the ash that has been thrown up, but there are not enough mud/earth colors for me. I think washing some browns and tans into the soil then dusting the top again with grey, would really help this piece stand out without giving it too much color. Just my 2 cents

Hey mate, Thanks for looking in! Good point... I had thought about having some kind of remains or bodies in the scene but went against it in the end.... If i go back to it again i may well add some skeletons or zombie parts like you said! Cheers,

Hey there! Again, thanks for looking in and i really appreciate your comments! I think along with Ustrello comments about the bodies etc... i should definetly go back and have a second look at the ground and no-mans land......

Thanks for the tips..... i will look to get myself some earthy coloured paints and put an update uo when i get it done!

Cheers & Thanks all!

Looks great. I would stick some weeds growing up out of the ground here and there. Otherwise, very nice

Pretty cool piece! I really like your work( your scratchbuilding thread is awesome) and this piece came out pretty cool! Like you already said, i would weather the sandbacks more, they look too new imho... The muted look of the paintjob really fits the setting and is perfect canvas for some minis! Great job! Do plan this as a diorama or part of a playable battlefield? Can not wait to see some minis interacting with this.

Hi guys and thanks for looking in and for the comments!

GamesEtc..... yeh i was thinking on this..... i am not sure about the weeds in "No Mans Land" as the continual explosions and smoke and gunfire i think would kill them... however... some kind of moss or weed growing in the trench sections might be a nice idea..... around the drains or in the lower corners maybe..... ....

Boba Fett Thanks for the kind words! I am glad you like some of the work i am doing! To be honest.... i am just enjoying some peices as individual parts.... this was my first real terrain piece so was meant as a one off and a bit of a tester.... but i think i might do some more pieces at a later date. Yeh i agree.. as mentioned i think the sandbags need a heavy wash and coating of grime......

Thanks again :

Hey mate!

first of all, awesome piece!

Now on to some critics: the sand bags look to perfect in shape/clean in your pictures while the rest is too greyish. maybe some weathering there.

I also believe it needs more shades. it looks too flat in colours for me.

Keep it up! this piece is 8.5/10 for me

Hey there! Thanks so much for lookin in and for the critique!

Yes, the sandbags have been mentioned a few times now.... i will definetly give them more weathering and "dirty" them up a bit more... even add some bullet damage.... Also with the colours.... yes i agree also... more depth in the grey and even some brown/earth tones would have added an extra dimention.... but this was actually my first terrain piece so i will learn and make it better for next time!

Thanks for the score! 8.5/10 is good for me!

Cheers,

Hi all....

I apologize & know this is kind of resurrecting this thread from the depths but I have had a bit of a layoff from the hobby and just getting back to it now... I have had a go at adding some more dirt and colours to the dio. ?... going toget more detail Into the sandbags and add more barbed wire to finish it off completely.

IMHO I think it is a big improvement.... but would love some more C&C

Thanks guys!

I looks a lot better than the original. You're original had no weathering on the sandbags and the ground looked very muddy. I am not sure of the look you're going for. Now it seems a bit to rocky but, that all depends on the look you're aiming for. Otherwise it's still looks awesome.

Sammoth, once the dirt and sand has dried I will see how the balance of the larger rocks looks..... going for a wastland kind of effect..... a battlezone that has been fought over for years....

Oh... I do know this thread is for finished works only.... so will try to only put up a finished pic of the end product next!
Cheers!

Ahoy all!

Ok... here we go... this is now completely finished... added some grime to the sandbags and then some more barbed wire across the bunker. Took out some of the larger stones from the ground cover and then added more dirt and grit into the trench itself.
Hope you guys like it and would love some more C&C...

Thanks all

Hey Bob... thanks for looking in! I am going to leave it "finished" for now....... but yeh I agree too.... that would certainly add a bit more of a human.... or xenos.... presence to the piece...

The piece looks pretty cool! I like the overall look of the scene. It really looks like a trench on a wasteland world.
At first I thought, it looks a little bit to"dry", but I think, this is caused by the fact, that I connect trenches with ww1 and on most of the pictures I've seen there was mud everywhere....( and then i read, you were aiming for this look)
But the wasteland look is a great idea and the finished piece looks awesome.
Imho it looks great as it is, even with no models or bodies.
Reminds me of a still life (hope this is the right term)

Excellent terrain piece. Now for the rest of the trench line so we can see how it fits in. A full board of that would be awesome to play on.

Thanks Boba! Yes, I began with a "mud" themed idea at the beginning but as I carried on through I wanted to get more contrast and texture on the ground so went for the wasteland look... and am very happy with how it has ended up! the only thing annoying me now is that I want to go back in and add some metalics and highlights to the heavy bolter.... just to bring it out clearer in the images....

Thanks again for your comments! and yes.... "still life" is the right term!

Thanks Col. Dash! Really appreciate the comments, haha... the rest of it..... it took me long enough to get this piece done..... but... I am planning another terrain piece soon... so I might try and fit them in together... would make sense I guess!

Thanks!
