Interesting figure indeed. Looks like he'd fit in with the old Lords of battle range, but certainly can't find him after trawling through SoL for a while. Definitely interested to see if anyone recognises him.
Great job on the paint job, whoever he is

Well! If it were a full sized house I reckon you could snap it up for $80000 as its well wonkey. Whatever apprentice mason built it hadn't been taught the secret of plumb lines yet. And they had trouble finding straight trees too.
I thought he was a lord of battle too at first. I would say the sculpting points to 1991 and feels GW related.

Thanks Doc. I've learned a lot so the next one will be more professional.
I've been working on a way to do the base, with more sand and pva glue on a paper base, its working out quite well... Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and the mystery man turns out to be a chaos thug from 1991. So there.

Not once the pva dries. But I chickened out and put some card under it anyway to be sure. The theory was that with paper it would be less obtrusive as a base, and the sand and glue give it strength.
A lot of things need doing better next time, but in the meantime its looking great as a basic house. One day I hope to build a whole town+castle.
Its all been primed and looks good. Its taken some flak from friends who think I can do better. I see it as a succesful experiment however. Lots of pics tomorrow, gotta go.

Everybody starts somewhere. Don't let your friends nay say you. All builders must start with something and often what we start with is terrible. It's really just the act of trying that puts us on the track. What I started with was much worse than what you've got here. This piece is quite stunning, actually, and you're working with what you have. Keep at it and one day you will be building whole towns and castles.

Really, that is a very nice building, with enough "starting to come apart at the edges" to give it a fairly convincing medieval look. It appears the top floor is in danger of collapsing over the front door, which is pretty pleasing. So long as it is painted up as old and patchwork, it should look great on the table!

Good job, whomever found that old GW mini. I think that it is older than 1991 though. It was one of the 1988 Chaos Thug releases that were released again (with a few new minis) in 1991.
The pic on this page (see mini 0309) shows text on the tab which says "chaos fighter" so the mini might have been intended for another line.
http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Chaos_Thugs#Chaos_Thugs_from_the_1991_catalog_Section_2
And here is a picture from WD101, but the mini is not painted as well as Weety's model.

The house looks great, Weety.
Only things I can see that could be improved are the windows on the upper floor could be more part of the structure, they look at bit too stuck on (I know that because they are). Maybe something around them or just the texture built up around them.
And the tiles on the roof, while positioned irregularly, are a bit too square and clean individually. Painting will help a lot with that anyway. But the odd chipped corner etc. would make them fit the rough house look better.
Can't see any other issues and the overall design is nice.

Honest Opinions? Heck, the Internet is full of those. Informed Opinions, OTOH...
I like the house. Primed like that it looks like it came from a resin kit. It should paint up very well indeed. I look forward to seeing that.
Now, if you are serious about improvements, here are a few suggestions for the next one.
(1) Try using spackle or joint compound or even pre mixed tile grout-- the unsanded kind-- to create the texture on the timber frame instead of using sand. Let it dry a bit before applying, perhaps so that it is like cake icing in consistency. It'll create a nice plastered look. Plaster itself is too fragile, and too wet for using directly on paper.
(2) Bases should be detachable if you have them, ( I wish someone had told me that 20 years ago :( ), and try and construct the building so that it does not require a base.
Finally, and possibly most important,
(3) Make sure your house isn't slightly longer than your lollipop sticks.
And going through the beginning of your thread inspired me to pull out some of my vintage minis, and even paint one of them, an old Marauder Goblin. Sadly, my painting skills are much atrophied. But it was fun to do nonetheless.

Cool thanks for the informed opinion red. I see what you mean about the tiles and the grout. About the removable/no bases, is that so that they will match any table?
Speaking of vintage, here are a few classics from the realms of chaos. Seahorseman and another mystery model - he looks like a really old chaos champion.

Great job on the slaaneshi warrior, the shield is fantastic.. Can't recall if the other guy is a champ or a warrior, I'll try and dig out my one and see what his tab says. And good job with him too
Think everyone has already covered any pointers on the house.

We will agree that it looks rude whatever it is. And its so small that I bet hardly anyone notices. At first I put seahorse man in the tenzeetch camp but now I think maybe he rolls with the slaneesh.
This chap is undecided, but you will notice that he takes a more basic approach to armour design.

Omnious Orc Shaman

|
Oh gods, the sheer nostalgia of it all... I'm feeling very old remembering when those figures where shiny and new sitting in their blister packs, hanging from the wall in Beckenham GW. Brings a tear to my middle aged (and somewhat short sighted) eyes... (tears of nostalgic joy obviously...) Ulfhdnar the Destroyer was one of my favourites - I painted him with Humbrol enamels back in the day... wonder If I still have him?

I've got an Ulfhdnar, painted him a few pages back. He is a bit skinny but otherwise a classic.
I am also short of sight. There is a theory that shortsightedness is caused by children spending a lot of time concentrating on tiny things, which is borne out as I used to love insects, gemstones, plants, books and tiny drawings. But then maybe that is putting the horse before the cart, maybe we like the miniature things because they are easier to see than big far away stuff.
