It's kinda their "thing", y'know? I mean, when most people release teasers they do give some indication of what the thing is. GW takes the opposite tact - show as little as possible.

Maybe cryptic was the wrong word to use. Obstinate might have been a more accurate word.

As in, they are obsinately clinging to their stupid teaser format.

Perhaps GW just has the wrong idea of what they are supposed to tease. Its the product GW, not us.

Maybe they like taking their cues from Hitchcock: show as little as possible and generate suspense. It explains why no one watches the old thrillers anymore, if you can't see the monster in the first ten minutes of the movie, its a ripoff, right?

What...? Who thinks that? Lets not even get into the fact you just compared a GW teaser trailer to a Hitchcock film.

I'm teased because it could be about anything, you never though.

Maybe it's called Mat Ward's Baby, and it's all written by him, and has Draigo return and destroy Chaos.

But seriously, calm down, whatever they release everyone will hate at first then like a bit, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER RELEASE!

New Apoc rules might be the thing that keeps me playing 40k for the next few years. I'm done with competitive play, and I'm enjoying the hell out of warmachine, and really want to get more into KOW and epic, and that kind of leaves poor 40k without any time left.

I've loved bigass games of 40k since 3rd edition, so a good Apoc ruleset could drag me back in for casual games over a full day. That seems to be how 40k is meant to be enjoyed anyway!

Pretty much the same boat as you (just replace Warmachine, KOW and Epic with the various 40K RPGs and things like Zombicide). Of course then there's the flip side of that - what's stopping us from having big battles without Apocalypse?

Aye, nothing beats apocalypse.

Seeing that huge of line of the Imperiums finest against the other line of Xenos and Heretics.
Or when that titan half way down the room takes a shot near your table, ka-boom.
Or charging into a multi race fight to really see who comes out on top.
Or in the midst of the chaos, your champion challenges another to single combat and an epic showdown begins.

And of course, nothing beats the endless screaming because everyone is shouting and they're trying to grab the guy's attention who is opposite them because they're about to unload every bullet on him but hes too busy being shot at by another guy.

Interest level. The reasons to keep playing 40k are:
1) Portabilitiy and ease of finding opponents
2) Standardized and universal rules.
3) Love of background/atmosphere
4) already owning a painted army for it

I could try to write up good big game rules, but that's a lot of effort for a game I've half quit. If GW makes some fun, engaging Apoc rules, I can meet a buddy at the clubhouse and play a nice big apoc game over some beers, which sounds like a fun day.

Hold on, hold on. What's to stop you just playing a big game? Forget about needing "big game rules", and just play a 10,000 point game? Would that not work?

Keep in mind, I like Apoc, and I like the structures it puts in place. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here.

I guess a lot of reasons. Lack of motivation is probably key, but I thought about it, and I'm still torn between trying to decide what mission to play, how many FOCs, size of board, and all that. Does anybody really think "First Blood" should matter as much as an objective in 3000 points? While, if anything, Linebreaker should matter more!

Maybe I'll see if I can find a game this weekend, give it a try.

It's something I've often said.. Apoc is the biggest case of 'Emperor's new clothes' and chucking everything down on the table and having a royal rumble was I'm sure done by anyone who has ever played 40k, most likely when they were 10 years old and mixed their Space Crusade minis with RTB01 and whatnot

Totally agree with Polonius' point though that it helps with accessibility and plays to 40k's great strength - the availability of players. Although speaking personally the thought of someone plonking one of those massive apoc kits down in a pick up game ("the narrative of this game is a backwater skirmish.. the avatar has turned up, oh yes and here is a titan also") is enough to send me running towards a club and a regular gaming group..

To be fair, this could be a teaser for literally any day in the 41st millennium. Planets kerploding and people going absolutely insane sounds apocalyptic to us, but for the Imperium, that's Tuesday.

They should do a Doombreed model and make him an apocalypse only monstrous creature. I would enjoy that very much.

...But... They told us that in the 41st millennium, there is only war...

On the bright side GW's finally included dramatic orchestral music into their teasers rather than lots of noise.

Little do you know the new Apoc rules will require settling things like men in the alley behind the store.

If there's only war, and it's to stay that way, the only thing that could be coming is war. If something other than war is coming, there'd soon be something else besides war, and no longer only war?

If there's only war; is it technically coming?

That would indicate it went away at some point and is planning on returning?

Oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.
