Stunning work on the Big Mek Iffy... you're right... you really did nail the skin. My wife is starting to wonder why I just don't send you the rest of my army! (I tell her I'm sending you just the best parts....)

Iffy the work you've done on the Big Mek so far is really well done, the skin tone is what I'd call perfect for an Ork. I really like the hazard stripes you've done on the cable, that would drive me mad lol.

The Dark Eldar is really nice so far, you are really good with your skin tones and it shows. Is she a practice piece or part of a commission?

Mek's looking very nice so far, looking forward to what you do with the cigar OSL

lipsdapips - You should be able to just write the text under the pic in your reply and it should appear that way in your post.

Thanks a ton The hazard stripes may have been redone over and over and over, but at this point I am probably already mad so they did no harm. The Eldar is a practice piece but will end up on Ebay instead of gathering dust in the lonely existence that is my storage cupboard. I went for pretty much the complete opposite of the Ork to keep me loose, bright and clean.

monkeytroll wrote:Mek's looking very nice so far, looking forward to what you do with the cigar OSL

So was I but I actually scrapped the Osl for it! When it came time to paint it I realised adding it would make no sense. There is OSl from his green light, but he is not heavily shadowed so making the cigar really glow would be odd. I used a reference for a lit cigar and the only real way it would be creating a noticeable light source would be if he was in near darkness. If I had added OSL it would have kinda looked like he was smoking a flare. I guess that could happen though, considering his Orkyness.

He is finished up now and I had a load of shots of him ready to go, but I am not that happy with them so am going to retake more to try and get less grainy ones Expect pics tomorrow!

Actually used up all my camera charge on the initial shots so had to recharge it hah, I used white background for these to not miss out on any detail. Think I might have gotten the colour balance right at last, but I am afraid to say so or I will jinx it D:

This pic is absolutely huge so you can click and zoom.

There are a few little whispy bits sticking out which are tiny resin filaments, Im going to clip them down now, they were just hard to see untill the white background. One Gobbo to go, responding to Pm's now

Thanks so much for the feeback dudes! Seems his lenses were a big hit which is awesome as I spent a lot of time on them Gloss varnish as a final layer makes a huge difference to lenses, and I super recommend it to anyone painting gems or lenses or even eyes, or the insides of mouths.

It makes a lovely difference.

I sent out some Pm replies and am heading back to work on more mini's now Lots in early WIP stages, but nothing worth posting yet hehe. Still working on Lil in between others, she is slowly getting there though her skin needs a bit of cleanup before I start on the armor fully.

Still trudging along working up mini's, just wanted to post some pics of these 2 wolves because of the really fantastic conversions I think the owner did.

This is their second full base coat, the 3 airbrushed layers wiped off with brush strokes on the first run, turns out the shade of vallejo model colour I used for the base grey has to be left to dry for nearly 24 hours after airbrushing or it wipes off with a fingertouch. Very strange stuff, but works out nice as a base with the 2 lighter greys brushed on from above. next up on these is the washes and weathering, something I am really starting to enjoy.

Really love that converted launcher.

Need some help by the way guys, can anyone find the original owner of this?

I know I have seen it around plenty, but this one dude on Deviant Art has a profile full of nothing but stolen images he is telling people he painted and then had the cheek to tell me to check out his gallery >< Reporting them one by one but need the original links.

People like that really drive me up the wall. I see a couple of GD entries in his gallery and I know for a fact that the owners lived in different parts of the globe

Unfortunately, I can not place the Eldar fella though the paint style reminds me of one of the eavy metal artists (I recognize the nmm blue), could't say who though!

Nice work on the FW ork! That skin tone is fabulous and those lenses... The metal areas look a little bland for my tastes but I do have a bad habit of plastering them all with rust Weathering powders!

It is mindblowing really, I would be ok with it if he was saying they were not his and where he got the images, but it is so frustrating to see the comments from others complimenting his paint jobs ><

There is definitely room for improvement with my metals. I still feel each time I try weathering on them it is a learning experience! They do look a bit better IRL than they do in the shots as the light is reflecting off them a bit much, but weathering powders would indeed make a big difference.

Is there any particular brand/colour you would recommend? Would love to find a tutorial for them too.

Well, the Space Marine Painter diorama was quite likely not by a guy from Australia. It was reportedly the creation of a German guy named Markus Haverbierl, who won third in the 2007 German Games Day Golden Demon for the Open Category.

The Unofficial Golden Demon Winners website

Any Germans out there that know Markus or saw the mini at German Gamesday 2007?

The monowheel IG figure is a combination of a Tobsen77 monowheel with a Copplestone Castings British HMG guy. That paintjob is from Tobsen77's website. I remember it from Kroothawk's post earlier this year.

The painter was anevilgiraffe. Unfortunately this piece isn't mentioned in his blog, but you might email him to point out that someone is taking credit for his paintjob.

The yellow Ork Stompa on the Leman Russ treads is by a guy from Colorado who goes by the name Mordian7th on The Waaagh! website. See this thread for the whole army done in that scheme with pics.

The conversion of the Eldar Exodite Lord on a Carnosaur is viewable on CoolMiniorNot. It's by a guy named Kotrin.

I think it is perhaps the sheer amount of same coloured metal on the figure that I found made it a bit overwhelming, I am no expert myself, but I find that the FW weathering powders are fantastic, even the ones you think you would never use (the green powder makes a very realistic mould effect!). Also, GW's hawk turquoise is, as I like to call it, insta-verdigris, great stuff!

Loving the termie with the missile launcher, can't wait to see them finished!

I guess there would not really be any point getting angry about it, the people who believe him would not likely be the kind of people looking for commissions or who were really into painting in fairness, or they would spot the lies pretty quickly. Even if you did not recognise those mini's, the insane shifts in technique and style would raise flags ><
Also, thanks a ton Weets! So bloody happy that it does seem that I am improving, thats the most important thing for me. If I felt I was starting to go backwards I would nerdrage massively.

@JB, excellent dude. Thats another load sent in as reports /cheer

Aye you have a point on the lack of varity, its almost entirely silver. There is some tin bitz based areas in there too but they aren't showing up very well :( I think I finally got my white balance fixed for my shots but metals always either look very flat or far faaar too reflective when I shoot. More experimenting is in order!

I actually have some Vallejo verdigris effect in a bottle here but it is very odd stuff, I prefer hawk turquoise for coppers too, a very watered down layer looks pretty awesome, but I have only used it once or twice.. hmm, definitely have to start doing that again.

Thats bang on Broonba! Boltgun over tinbitz is an awesome quick dirty metal result, and looks awesome for Orks. I use tinbitz as the base for a lot of my metals as it works up real nicely to both golds and silvers, it is a fantastic paint, though I cheat and use Vallejp's tinny tin which has better coverage ;D

I have spent nearly 5 hours today painting dirt onto very clean models. I questioned if I might be a bit mad honestly.. but the weathering on them is done and tomorrow will be chipping the armor and putting up some shots Last little Grot is also well underway, will try and get some shots of him too for tomorrow.

And guys..

hope you are all prepared.

I used the Vallejo verdigris on my berserkers in my Chaos thread for the bronze, I find you really need to water it down a lot but it looks really nice. I prefer it to using Turquoise.

I really dig the ork, well done!

As to weathering powders, when I use them, I use Tamiya. I haven't had much occaision for them other than rocking out some mud and dust on some tanks, but the little compact style works really well it seems. Just gotta use different applicators for effect I find... the straight sponge is ok till it dissolves.

Oh dear god I got Skyrim'd so hard, it has finally released me from its vice like nerd grip, so here are some updates!

Final grot is in the very last stages, just needs his cleanup and for his poster to be decided on, then for that to be painted on and the paper aged

Space Wolves weathering is done on all their armor areas, think I have improved from the first one so I am actually pretty happy with these, skins are next!

Some early shots of a legion of the damned Terminator to basic standard, experimented with a relatively easy to get but nice bone effect for him so I could get it down nicely without going over tabletop standard and I think it looks quite nice bar the smudge of black on his top right earhole vent (wat?)

A lot more of these dudes on the way

I have been keeping a log of Skyrim shenanigans at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150359322062111.350433.714797110&type=1 too for anyone else as hilariously addicted as I am.

So I went with something I could pull off on a small space for the grot, hopefully it gets his message across?

As for the Termie, got him finished and was extremely happy with how he turned out for tabletop standard layerings, but decided the final perfect touch would be to matte varnish him to get rid of the slight shines on the inks only for this to happen..

Absolutely disgusted, made the stupid nooby mistake of spraying without checking the weather outside, its nightime and misty and the moisture ruined him. No way to salvage, has to be repainted :( Posting him so the basic scheme idea can be seen anyway, so he is not entirely a waste. I could hit myself, seriously..

according to fw, another coat of spray varnish should clear that up. I've not tried it myself though, so I can't say for sure

Post by: Ifalna

I tried giving it a satin varnish by brush after but it didint help :( Supposedly theres 2 types of frosting, one where the "Frost" is light reflected off little dents in the varnish, so varnishing again fills in the dents and solves it, and the other is the actual varnish turning cloudy and there is no fix for it.

I am completely disgusted, it is going in the bin, I am done with it. Vallejo brush on satin varnish from now on, period.

That's happened to me before Iffy, and I work in a climate controlled studio above the garage (in essence, part of the house). Frosted my chapter master figure after he was completely painted in my tranquility pattern. I think I got rid of the worst of it by hitting it with a gloss coat first then a dull coat afterwards... but he still looks off in my eyes. Just don't have the heart to strip him down and re-do him.

What about trying MajorTom11's method of clearing up foggy varnish?

Spray on a gloss coat, wait 24 hours, spray on clear coat.

That's pretty much what I did. It helps... but at some point you get enough varnish on the figure that it looks odd.

Post by: Ifalna

I tried re varnishing him and then when that failed brushed on more, but he was not fixable so I basically just repainted all his armor bar the bone and re-inked the flames and he turned out ok

Lesson learned however.. not touching the stuff again.

Space wolves are progressing nicely, armor/skin/shoulder details/golds are done, mouths, accessories, hair, power fists and shield weathering to go. Look at that intense lack of detail on the right power fist, wow. That will be fun to.. paint.

Termies are flying along, first batch done pending review from owner, may still change some things. I think they turned out nice and crisp for tabletop standard.

Sorry to hear about the varnish episode , but thanks for posting about it , i have never used GW spray on varnish , i shall be quite wary of purchasing it in future.

The termies are very clean and crisp , but its the space wolves i adore , so much dirtiness, i love it!

Any type of hobby supplies that say citadel on it, I tend to steer clear from. Always seem to have some kind of issue. Their best stuff from my experience is hands down the washes (devlan mud I say), but then again there are quite a bit of good washes out there so I guess that's a hard one to mess up. Their second best stuff is probably their paint, but for someone like me who doesn't paint very often they tend to dry out too quickly for my taste.

That aside, awesome wolves going on there. The powerfist and shield are especially nice (what color is that btw? Hawk turquoise?). Is the plan to do the same on the other two wolves?
Personally I'm not a fan of the flaming stuff, but it still looks good and I more than dig the Blue Man Group in there!

I'm at this point wary of purchasing anything from GW >< Having never had a problem with anything I have used from Vallejo has really edged me towards them honestly.
I am thrilled with how the termies turned out but have to agree, the wolves are reaaaaally fun right now.

Lt. Coldfire wrote:Any type of hobby supplies that say citadel on it, I tend to steer clear from.

Yes the washes, the washes are fantabulous, except for the odd issues I have had with them drying cloudy. If you are having problems with their paint drying really fast, try transfering it to dropper bottles and using a really quick to make wet pallet with some wet kitchen paper and some grease proof paper on top. I've managed to keep the same paints for years now, I bought a mega paint set back in 2004 and am still using them as they never got to dry out in their awful GW pots, lol.

The powerfist and shield are hawk alright, well done for noticing The other two now have the same glow effects, I will get shots of them soon. The blue man group are now grey per the owners request, I agree that it looks much nicer!

I am really happy with how these turned out considering their very limited scheme ( especially the captain) so here are two GIANT piccys of the full finished unit to tabletop standard. Click for massimo!

I really am super happy with the capitano, his flames are mostly on his back, like so.

Your kicking ass Ifalna! The captains cloak looks like a real masterpiece. SO neat and tidy it looks real.

I'm going to need some new paints soon - you recommend citadel for washes so I might check them out. Any other suggestions?
I'm amazed that my old citadel washes have lasted 15-16 years, but I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

Cheers gits Keeping them clean was what I was aiming for. It feels harder to get good results at tabletop standard if you aim for dirtied up mini's, keeping them clean gives a much crisper end finish if you have a tidy little base imo.

Weeeetys! Cheers The cloak is very simple but quite nice int he hand. The joys of using inks really sped up getting a vivid fire colour over black, they really saved the day for all the flame effects.

The only washes I have tried are Citidel so I can't really give varied advice, but I have nothing negative to say about them at all. They do exactly what they say they will do with no minimal hassle! By the way, I've been looking through my mini boxes and found a couple of really old marines I forgot I had, like, really old. Ill Pm them to you if you would like them at all, they would look awesome with your brilliant paint schemes and I could send them down as a Dakka chrismas pressie, lol.

The model is 50/50 for me. On one hand its a nice sculpt, very dynamic, but on the other it must be a right horror to try and convert, I've rarely seen one used that wasn't the bog standard out of the box version!

I like the sig too ;D Im getting around to Pm's now, been playing Swtor since early access religiously.

Afternoon Ifalna - looks like it has been a while since I've posted in here.

I've got a quick question, going back to the Kasrkin Sergeant you painted back in Dec/Jan - was there a reason he didn't have a backpack? 'Tis particularly noticeable at the end of the cables coming from his pistol/carbine, as they appear to terminate in the middle of nowhere.

Having said that, there's been some great models done since I last looked - though I think I went mostly blind after the Eldar army

Hiya Dysartes

The Karskin might have had a bit missing alright, thats the mini as it arrived, so I guess the owner did not attach it. My nooby knowledge of many GW figs leaves me not noticing these things, I should get studying!

The Eldar were mindblowing. Seeing them all on one shelf was like staring into an abyss filled with Skittles. Metal ones.

Re:Ifalna's minis - Celestial WraithKnight Update + Fire Prism for sale @ 2011/12/21 16:45:13

Post by: Dysartes

Mmmm... metal Skittles...

Strange that the owner decided not to attach his backpack but, as you say, that's his call.

Post by: Ifalna

He may just not have had it, I know a lot of the mini's I got off ebay would have random bits like that missing.

I have a good few old Space Marine mini's I got from there with the little metal nub on the back but no backpack to add on, but then again that could be part of why they cost a pittance Haha

Haha, yes they are pretty different arent they! It makes me quite happy that I can see when I move from my normal style, it gives a good sense of progression for me. I do love painting with the clean cartoony look I use quite often, but going for detailed skin texture/weathering and trying out new ideas is super refreshing.

She is coming along nicely, I work on her in between others, so she is definitely getting there, just rather slowly I gave her eyebrows and updated her face a bit, her armor is nearly finished and her base is on the way. I will take some shots of her to post with my next picture update.

Post by: Ifalna

No problem at all!

I generally start with eyes first because I find it much easier to keep tidy than if I was to try and paint it onto finished skin, so I get the eyes down over the primer, tidy around them with the primer colour to get them into neat shapes, then paint the face with tallarn flesh, including inside the mouth.

I then give the face a couple of washes to start shading, this guy was a pretty strong wash of Ogryn flesh, but you can mix Devlin in for a more tanned effect.

The first highlight layer was Tallarn slightly watered, then I continued to highlight gradually adding small amounts of bleached bone into the Tallarn. I think I cheated and added a spot of skull white for the most pronounced areas.

I paint mouths last, not sure why, must just be habit, but I go about them by adding unwatered badab black inside the mouth over the flesh colour which darkens it nicely, then unwatered red wash once thats dried. I water some a little and brush it over the lips too, just don't go overboard or he will look like he has some spiffy lipstick on.

Teeth are bleached bone as a base, then brought up to skull white.

Ah cheers guys!

Skin tone and on faces especially is one of the things I really put a lot of effort into improving when I decided to wanted to get as good as I could with painting, skin was my Achilles heel so getting compliments on it now means a hell of a lot.

Just trying to not overcomplicate it really does seem to be key to getting a nice skin in a relatively quick time. That and using varied colours for shading in very watered down layers as you build up the highlights, gives lovely flush tones.

Lilith is 90% done, I near finished her off today and she is looking sweet, just got to base her and then I will take shots tomorrow.

I broke out my 000 s7 and added detail to her face, reworked her eyes and added tattoo effects under them. Her armor is unhighlighted chaos black with purple ink over it, so it is super, super dark, then I highlighted the armor edges up to electric pink Sounds odd but it works nicely with her super pale skintone.

Pics tomorrow, and a happy new year to everyone!

Haha, I don't think I will even open his box. I would be really scared something would happen to him, I have a playarts Sephiroth who's Masamune has somehow gained a large amount of cat fang sized indents.. so even with all my big figs now out of cat reach I'd rather keep the super cool ones safe in boxes till we get a display case for everything. I regret taking my Raziel out of his box every day, he is ridiculously delicate :(

2012 should be great, I have a couple of folks interested in different things, all of which sound very fun. I am slowly working through space wolves and have another ebay project in the works, I may be doing some more Orks shortly, maybe some more LOTD, and perhaps some characters I want to get at least as much work done this year as I did in 2011, so I am very excited.

And here she is, all done.

It was quite hard to get decent shots of her as she is so high contrast, mega pale with super dark armor, but these turned out ok. Can click the pics to make them a little bigger

Does anyone have any idea why my images always get slightly blurred when I upload? Looking at the same image before I upload they are always noticeably crisper and clearer, and it feels like such a shame when they get slightly blurry in the gallery. :(

She is not showing when I search for her either, I think it is just cause she is only recently added and it can take a while for new auctions to enter the search http://www.ebay.ie/itm/220924477502 is her page.

I am discussing commissions now, so if you want anything done within the near future, just give me a Pm with any ideas and I can see when it would be possible to slot them in

In hindsight, I agree and if I was redoing them I would do their skin like Lelith for sure. I was testing out getting a strong skin tone that was not time consuming on them, which worked out nicely but I won't be using on Eldar again!

Her eyes were getting a bit lost when I originally painted her face, so I added the extra facepaint and they did go a bit over the top! Hard to find a good balance with eyes I think, but they are deffo something I need to keep practicing on. I want to start painting irises, she actually has irises and pupils but the blue I used for the iris was way too dark and it just all looks black, massive shame.

I wonder if I had added tiny shines to her pupils, would it had made a difference? Hmm..

Totally just found a metal Tyrion I bought for 70 cent on Ebay last year and stripped. His horse is swag.

Painting him at my desk as we speak. No mini needs to have a base this detailed, seriously.

Edit: Updating pics as I go, working in front of my pc hence blue monitor glow ( I know, I know, I'm terrible.)

Ill take shots every 30 mins for the sake of lolz. Look at its hair. My god. Why? This thing is ridiculous. Spending ages bringing the skin up to a nice translucent white. Takes ages, but is my favourite way to paint up whites.

Keyboard background glow is now out of control. Horses pomposity levels are reaching critical. I have to keep going.

Is it just me, or does that horse look somewhat ticked off? I think it be the evil eye, but I'm not sure why...

And, at 70 cents for a (currently) £22.50 figure surely means everything but the slottabase is swag? (Out of interest, what were you meaning by swag?)

That is an epic model right there. Not sure how you snagged that for 70 cents. Even I'd pay more than that just to keep it in my boxes of warhammer stuff crammed in the closet.

Looking good so far Iffy, I'm interested to see how liquid gold looks over white as I use it over black or tinny tin.

Cheers! Blues are always really fun to paint, and you can get so much depth from a pot of Enchanted blue, a touch of skull white, and some black that it is crazy! The horse has to take all kudos for his face, I am only adding paint.

GiraffeX wrote:Looking good so far Iffy, I'm interested to see how liquid gold looks over white as I use it over black or tinny tin.

It is crazy bright over white, so I always dull it down with some nice brown ink to keep the shine. Chestnut gives it a freaking lovely orangy old tarnished feel too, you should try it out!

See when I bought him, he looked like he had been painted with tippex and superglue. Took a couple of days to remove it all, and hes been left with that slightly grainy texture I sometimes find on older metal mini's, but yeah, even with that hassle, 70 cent is absolutely nothing.

Guys I really dont know how I am managing to paint this, theres no light at my desk and I have consumed a few delightful whiskeys.
I tarnished his metals a lot as he is blatantly too serious a person to have shiny shiny gold. I figure I am just going to hold tight and go with it. Need to finish the white and highlight his metals, then do his gems, but I also need to get dinner ready?

My life is so hard.

Thats how I roll.

I have his poncy brother somewhere, very old paintjob. I was given him for free because his head is miscast to the point where one side is higher than the other. It was only noticeable on his hat after I painted him but its still hilarious. Is there a new model for him? I recall the one I had being pretty awfully clunky.

Should I post updates of Tyrion every 30 minutes or so again? I'm not sure if it counts as spammy or interesting.

Rogue Wolves wrote:ooooh TYRION, whoops... well cant waite to see him painted, he's going to look awsome!

I hope so!

Looking at him in detail I can see he suffers from " old metal model" syndrome, where a lot of his details are far less crisp than they should be, like his chainmail and some armor areas. The chainmail isint deep enough to even take a wash, so I will have to see how it goes. I am sure he will regardless end up in nicer shape then when he arrived!

Golds on and ink down, waiting on washes to dry now and onto metal highlighting.

Doing gold first was indeed wise, as it is so sloppy to get down. I can tidy it up no problem as I start painting detail.

Doubts are setting in about Tyrion.

He has some really severe issues, much worse than I anticipated when I started painting him. Terrible grain problems in his metal, especially around his chest and face, not possible to file it as it would mean filing down either his entire face, or all his surviving chest detail. You can see all the gribbly bits along side the helmet around his face.

I know he is preowned but Im starting to think the original owner went at him with a pin vice in an act of sadism. Plan was to sell this once finished but he is in too bad condition to not put him up for cheap to be honest. I am enjoying painting him anyway though, so Ill take that from it at least

And no, Dee, definnnnnnnnnnnitely not.

Poor guy indeed, shame as he is really starting to look rather nice, but there is no way I can think of to fix the damage to the areas around his head. :(

I may grow it back at some point if it gets chilly again. It's clearly an impressive power all Irish have.

That is the best page turnover I've seen in a while, well done! Hahaha.

So he is all finished now bar the base:

I am disgusted by Tyrions face. Had there not been all that grainy nonsense I would have been immensely proud of this. But oh well, I still learned a LOT, especially with the cloth. Thats the richest colour blend I've gotten on cloth so far I think, and I made sure to not spend a ridiculously long time on this as it was in a way a speed practice.

Will get the base done once I have the superglue I need for it Tried to distract attention away from the grainy areas using the blade runes and gems coupled with the bland face area.

It is totally over the top, isint it. I mean firstly, those wings are ridiculous in general. He already has a Dragon on his hat, nothing else is needed. Secondly, why would you dress your freaking horse to match? WHY WOULD YOU DRESS A HORSE AT ALL.

It's exactly like Coldfires Eldar where the biggest, most critical to the armies chance of success, all wore massive pointless hats and giant wings and target signs. "I have all this crap on, you should shoot me cause I am prob pretty awesome."

That would be amazing. It is seriously my headcanon that all high ranking high Elves and Eldar have coneheads, there can't be any other reason they all wear cone hats. Its the only logical answer. I also will now imagine Tyrion as being Dan Aykroyd in armor.

I saw the Cone heads maaaany years ago on my little portable TV in my bedroom. I remember feeling very naughty for watching it because it had that scene with the headhoops and I was afraid I might get in trouble for seeing it. Then again, my Dad let me watch The Fly when I was 10, and that wasn't.. em.. suitable. My parents were fantastic, haha.

His head is atrocious isint it. I mean his actual face is pretty bad, but the helmet is just.. wow. Let's pretend it was indeed a botched photoshop job, that might make me feel better about it ruining a paint job I am genuinely proud of :( Ouch. If I ever did find another Tyrion I would imagine I would basically paint him from scratch again, the idea of which is enraging me.

Rogue Wolves wrote:coneheads.... (: oh i remember them.... and iff, i think he looks fine, but i understand what you think of his face, but there isnt much of its so i think he looks fine

I am hoping more focus is drawn to the Poncy horse and fancy sword than his face. I am happy with the paint job for sure, but it is kind of like finishing a guache canvas and being really proud, then noticing you actually painted a hair into it and you can't take it out without ruining the paint. It is Art Rage I am feeling.

The Horse is actually the tactical mastermind, Tyrion is a gently simpleton riding on his brothers coat tails, he gets all the credit for his mounts brilliant leadership, hence the poor horses dissatisfaction.

Maybe a very teeny drill would work? I'm not sure. His chest is just a mass of metal, theres no real detail there anymore. If I had picked him up in a store I would have returned him as just being a lost cause, but for 70 cent, honestly, I can't really complain!

Lots of amazing mini's for me to paint, courtesy of two awesome chaps. I am going to start off today with a Warjack I assembled yesterday and which is heading for Ezbays, then when I hear back about basing/schemes, starting on 2 mecha monkeys ( AWWYYEAHH) and a very, very angry goblin.

If I ever did find another Tyrion I would imagine I would basically paint him from scratch again, the idea of which is enraging me.

Well, honestly I doubt the head issue will be too noticeable at table top distances. Super close up shots tend to make all models look less appealing. Mine look just as bad in person, but yours certainly must look fantastic, so I wouldn't fret too much. You will never see anything else, but some unsuspecting fellow at a game store will marvel for certain!

And man, I miss the old SNL. I am just old enough to have caught a few, mostly "best of"s back in the day, but good lord Akroyd was hilarious, with Steve Martin et al. My family used to tape them over night to watch the next day. For a frame of reference, I was introduced to everything from Monty Python to C.S. Lewis. to Archer by my mother. Looking forward to what you do with the 'jacks. I never really liked the aesthetic of Warmachine's mech's, but I am looking forward to what you do with them!

It's luckily not that noticeable at arms lenght, he looks lovely up untill you move him closer to check the detail and then see his face. So harsh, haah. And don't start, your work is freaking amazing. Your use of natural autumnal warm palettes is mind blowing, specially with the cool purples and blues you use to set it off. Seriously, I am a fan.

We just had Netflix become available in Ireland and I have been really enjoying the SNL stuff. Walkens collection was just.. oh wow.

I went on a no Carb diet recently to shed Christmas gain, it works but oh my god, couldn't eat any of my favourites at all. I'm back on eating what I want in moderation now, can't survive without spuds, rices, and pastas.

Yea, I don't mind the low carb thing as much, as largely I am cutting out eating cereal 1-3 meals a day, but not having biscuits to dip in my soup, or serious amounts of ice cream or bread is starting to wear on me. Fortunately, today is the last "OMG only 20 grams?! WTF that's like a cracker!" day, and after that it is pretty much back to normal. Tomorrow I am totally finishing off the gallon of low carb icecream in the freezer! (Which actually isn't half bad, though it might just be the shortage of sweet things in my diet of late.) I think you have the right of it, just being sensible about what you eat, then going hardcore when you have like 10 pounds to lose. My old man has been doing that for a while now, and it seems to work well. With how my mom cooks and his rapacious desire for ice cream, he would be 240 pounds at best otherwise.

But damn... I could really go for some corn pudding and a loaf of fresh home made bread with apricot jam right now....

Yes it is by Vallejo, its a alcohol based paint. Its name on the pot if I remember correctly as its not in front of me now is vallejo model color gold metallic.

Bass Master 2000 was the name of a handheld fishing game I bought in a discount store in the 90's, so I am automatically assuming that is what you are talking about. It will be an AWESOME model. Go for it.

Haha, the whole " Comparing every goods Carb content to how many slices of bread it equates" phase? Oh god I went through that. So horrible, but when you are coming within sight of your goal weight its all worth it.

I usually hang in the 8st 5-6 area and am fine, but Christmas brought me up to 9st and those few pounds really show when you are really short. Cutting out Carbs gets nice results quite quickly, but it being a binge you are trying to lose makes it easier I guess, as you are back to normal eating at the time.

Peeps above got it right, it is a Vallejo product. It comes in a range of colours ( my fave is Old Gold) and is basically gold flakes suspended in an alcohol. When you paint it on it looks like metal, highly reflective, but it is difficult to use as it is near water consistency and can only be thinned with alcohol if it starts to dry. Adding water to it can cause nasty things to happen so should be avoided I use it for any gold I want a quick result for.

For more detailed stuff, I still prefer bringing tinbitz up to shining gold however, such lovely depth!

Here is Mr Jack in his most messy phase, when his bases are down and washes are drying -

Golds are about done here, but won't look that nice till the rest of him is coming along. Stained his creams do doing those next while adding badab to the silvers. White areas are going to be a maroon red, basically sticking with his canon colour scheme as he I hope to sell him.

Bitches don't know 'bout my Warpwolf!

Bah, my street cred! It is Super Bass-O-Matic 76!
http://www.hulu.com/watch/19046/saturday-night-live-bassomatic

For some reason I always remember it as Bass Master 2000... I guess as a result of growing up in the 80's where the year 2000 was the obvious point where we would have flying cars, so everything was named that it seemed.

Actually... a dread with magnetic grappler with a fishing game built into his back would be awesome... Give you something to do when your opponent is playing Slowhammer. Or even just model him with a high tech fishing rod in his hands... aww man....

I am counting carbs on packages, not converting to bread. That sounds a little depressing, since 20 grams of net carbs is like 2 slices. Shopping with my friend yesterday who just moved to the area was kind of sad.

"Oh man, Hammer, have you ever had these!?"
"Nope... pretty good?"
"Oh my god yes! We should get them and... oh... right. You can't. *sigh*"

Poor guy, he even had some Toll-House cookies ready to throw in the oven for when I got there.

I am around ~12st 7 now, down from about 13 5 or 14... though I think I just dropped a stone trying to do that math in my head... I figure that's about all I am going to get, since that is what I weighed in college when I was working out pretty regularly, but I am hoping I might get rid of the little love handles I have had forever. I think though I am going to find they are in fact alien parasites, as those bastards never go ANYWHERE.

I sympathize with the small issue though. One of my best friends in college was a 4'10" girl, and after a weekend of drinking she would wail about her looks. Apparently 4-5 beers would make her gain a dress size.

Anyway, the models seem to be coming along well! I like the pale strawberry red on the Jokarangutan. Are you going to darken it a bit, or try and lighten the eyes to sort of even out the saturation? I always struggle with that a bit, wanting to do some dull, more washed out painting, but only ever managing it with doing super thin glazes over greys, which of course are shot the first time you don't thin enough.

Ahhh yes! I know what you mean now, delicious Bass smoothies! Mmm.

A Dread with a fishing rod would be brilliant, and pretty easy to do I guess. Stick and string is not too hard to miniaturise I was lucky that my BF did the same diet with me or I would have fallen off the wagon near instantly. If he was drinking beer and and eating biscuits and toast and all those delicious things, I would in no way have the willpower to not eat them. I'm 4 11 myself so in the same boat, if I gain a pound it looks like half a stone, it's really ridiculous and extremely frustrating.

I completely dropped the ball with the Jokero, thats not mine, its an image I googled to show what model I meant D: Sorry, I should have said so, noting it now.

Big boy is getting there, going to finish the maroon, give it a badab wash, then wash the silver with devlin and highlight it. May add highlights to the maroon but it will be very sparingly I think.

It could have worked out as nice marble all right, but I wanted to stick with the "official" scheme for Menoth as he is more likely to sell that way ><

He is all finished now, here we go! Will put him on Ebay in a bit.

I think I did a decent job of sticking to the Menoth scheme, while dirtying him up a little. I like that from the back, he is mostly metal

Nothing is a sure thing on Ebay. It all depends on whether the right buyer(s) find the right seller with the desired good.

Looking at your three current auctions on Ebay, Ifalna, you might cast a wider net by including the game (Warmachine, 40K) and the Army type (Menoth, Dark Eldar) in the name of the auction. You already have the word "painted" so that's all to the good.

Some buyers don't try a lot of search criteria but when they want painted miniatures for a specific army and/or game, they use the term "painted" and the game or army name. That weeds out all of the unpainted minis and odd things from other games, movies, or books.

I'm surprised that Lillitha and the Wyches haven't sold at the new prices, especially given the low postage fees, but your naming conventions may be part of the problem.

If I use my standard search criteria (model name, game, painted), your Lelith doesn't show up because you don't include the game name (40K in this case) in your auction name.

Warjack: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220934410255

Wyches: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220929905606

Lelith: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220929901856

Just a point of view from a regular Ebay searcher. I haven't bought a lot of painted 40K minis there (a squad of Orks, a squad of Stormtroopers, and a platoon of FOW German infantry) but I look a lot. Using all three of my standard criteria gives me 15-90 results vice the 2,000 I get if I just use an army name and game name. I'm willing to sift through 2-3 pages of auctions but not 20 pages.

Re:Ifalna's minis - Celestial WraithKnight Update + Fire Prism for sale @ 2012/01/17 11:12:49

Post by: Gitsplitta

The other thing that puts me off a bit is the high starting price. Now, if those were "buy it now" prices I wouldn't have an issue, even if the prices were a bit higher, but in an auction there's the potential for a lot of upward movement. I think that having an auction with too high a starting bid price puts people off, at least it does me, so I never make that first bid. I may be willing to bid that high or beyond eventually... but to start that high is something I usually won't do.

Now, like most bidders I'm looking for a deal. As the seller you're looking for a fair price for your work, so I understand the higher price. However, auctions are a game of emotion and ego... and too high a starting price doesn't let either of those come into play. In which case, I think your better off just naming the price you want for it and listing it as a buy-it-now opportunity.

Ebay advice from awesome people

Ok I have just woken up and have my brain is still booting, but there is some good stuff here. I am going to go alter the search criteria on the listings and make sure they are showing correctly. Gits, pricing is bloody hard. The reason they are up for auction and not Buy out is I never seem to get Buy out sales. If I put them up for the same price at Auction, people tend to snipe a bid at the last second. It is really, really weird and I don't know why people do it to be honest, if these don't sell I will re put them up as buy now and we will see how it goes.

Today is Jokero and angry Gob by the way, once I have had morning Coffee and coughs up on my oh so important list of nerdy fan blog tumblrs I have to read every day.

Yeah you defiantly need to change your auction titles as JB says to include the key words for the items you are selling.

I always do

Game (WH40k/WFB/Warmachine etc)
unit/character name
Army
Painted

You should be able to change them now while the auctions are live.

I have tried to alter the Auction tiltles on Lel and the Eldar, but the option isint available, it must be due to them ending v shortly? Maybe some way to prevent an odd scam of some sort, hmm.

Todays painting expectation has been blown out of the water due to having spent 3, no joke, 3 hours trying to assemble a tiny metal Goblin. I've not had this problem with AoW mini's before, but it just will not take the supreglue. Even overnight, everything fell off immediately the next morning, and no part of it is thick enough to pin.

I've washed it, Ive removed each failed layer of glue and started from scratch, nothing is working. Dents in my thumbs from holding the spikey !*&* together are killing me, there is much fury happening. I will have to resort to using GS coupled with superglue if this doesnt work, I'm watching it on my desk right now, it is getting ready to explode again. I know it is.

I've not heard of exploding goblin syndrome before, very strange for a metal model not to take superglue.

Wow, the eyes on that are really excellent! The come across as very intelligent and gentle. Almost like he is saying "I'm sorry, this is just going to hurt for a second..."

My cat gives me that look when he pats my face to get me out of bed in the morning. Though with him it more comes across as "Why so serious?" With all that implies.

Also, ever try getting a micro-soldering iron (the type used for circuit boards) and using that to affix tiny model parts together? I am constantly tempted to try that with Rackham models, but generally I am too out of sorts after wrestling with them for so long I turn to fire for help to go out and get one, and the only electrical engineer I know is a total bitch and doesn't own one. So, thanks for that, Jin!

Also, LOVE the fur tone. Very soft and natural, and imagining it with more depth means it is probably amazing.

Wow, that Jokero looks fantastic! I will have to resist an urge to give it a name. His intent soulful gaze tells me that he already has a name anyway and doesn't particularly care to waste any effort or attention on my attempts at nicknames. He's got more important things to focus on. Some of which seems to be doing the bit from the Kids in the Hall (a Canadian sketch comedy troupe) where he is "crushing" someone's head (using forced perspective or maybe for real in 40K).

Cheers dude! The grey skin was super simple really, chaos black with a touch of white as the base layer, then 2 highlight layers using a little more skull white each time. Painted on little stretch lines on the mouth as Orangutans don't have pitch black skin, and it helped emphasise it

These dudes are supposdly mechanics and engineers, I think they would be a bit less alarming looking if they were holding some kind of tool instead of just... making a probing gesture. Their eyes do help to calm the horror however. You are lucky your cat pats your face to wake you up, mine demand to get under the duvet by taking turns shouting in my ear and slapping my head until I give in :(

God, Jin, what a loser! ;D
That could very well work, might be worth testing out. My Dad is a builder who specialises in working with Victorian windows and glass installation, he works with Aluminium a lot and has lots of cool tools laying around, I bet he has a mini solderer somewhere. I will totally bring down a spare metal mini next time I visit and see how it reacts.

You should totally give him a name. I think he has such a soulful gaze because he has seen the horrors that consist of my bedroom/new painting area. Many fellow miniatures in various states of dismemberment. He may have even glanced some of the terrible fanfiction I read while at my desk, and it has given him some form of Post traumatic stress syndrome.

I am sure he will recover however, as he now has a slightly more upbeat friend who enjoys doing Ape things, like touching his bottom. He will cheer up now for sure.

His friend is based on a White faced Gibbon, because as Jb mentioned, 2 orangutans with the exact same model would just look dodgy. His skin tone is much darker but he has an awesome little white mask to make up for it. I am going to put an extra layer of sand on the bases once this one dries fully to break up the bump in the center from the mini's metal bases, and just make it a bit less bland. Throw some nice bigger grains in there

I am technically on my weekend now, but I will likely get some more painting done as I don't want to break the roll I am on! Want to take some more detailed shots of the Wyches and repost them using the advice awesome chaps gave me earlier <3

Heh, yea, little 'Rogies doesn't want to be under the blanket, he wants me to pet him while he sucks on it. As I type this he is on my lap, sucking on my terrycloth robe like if he does it enough it will turn into his mother. After a little petting and working through his mommy/abandonment issues he is super cuddly. Then he decides it is time to play, and sinks his teeth and claws into you. The transition phase there is about 3/10ths of a second long :(

I love the little bastard, but goddamn, were he human there would be horror movies written about him and how he tried to recreate his mother out of the skin of random women.

Very nice monkey painting! It's awesome to see one that doesn't follow the colour scheme from the books!

They look great! Your Gibbon scheme turned out to be very striking - almost classy. I definitely won't confuse those two chaps on the tabletop, and perhaps I can convince my opponents not to shoot at them. After all, how can you look into their eyes and think of violence. Even a World Eater would blink a few times before whipping his chainsword around.

Oh god, if its any consolation, you are not the only one who has to deal with a sucky cat. Manny suckles himself whenever he is relaxing or settling down for the night, yes, himself. He has no fur so he can just grab his own belly and suck whenever he wants and it's so awkward to break a Sphynx out of that theres no point in really going to the effort. His sister did it when she was just a kitten but at least she has grown up. I can assure you that having one sucking a piece of cloth is infinitely better than having one making slurpy sucky noises on its own belly. Ugggghh.

Dysartes wrote:

He is totally behaving himself now, my night of intense rage and a hefty amount of swearing at him sorted him out. I ended up pinning his arm as carefully as possible as it was so narrow, and it worked out well Started on him today but still in the basic first few layers so not really worth an update.

logg_frogg wrote:

Yeah I think little things like altering a common scheme to another one that still makes sense can add a really nice touch to minis and help them stand out, especially minis that only have 1 or 2 variants of poses!

Broonba wrote:Excellent work on the jokero's.

I personally thought the Bum touching photo was the pinnacle of their achievements, but I guess I have odd tastes :(

GiraffeX wrote:The monkeys are looking really nice, the black one is a clever idea to get round them all looking the same.

There are so many monkey and ape patterns to use, I love painting naturalistic things because there are so many amazing natural themes available to use, and they always look good! Imagine one of those Jokaeros with a baboob scheme, all red faced and blue bottomed That would be brilliant.

Dysartes wrote:That reminds me - Ifalna, what size light box do you use, and how many lamps do you use with it?

At the moment I am using a very fancy photo set up of a black bobble hat, 2 low wat lamps, and a 2-3 second exposure to get ok details. When I have my lightbox set up it is about half a meter cube with 2 daylight bulbs on either side, I just cant fit it on my desk for quick updates When we move again to our "permanant" house in Galway I will have it set up for good. Setting it up each time I want a shot is rather time consuming.

Rogue Wolves wrote:common monkey on monkey action, thats offensive to monkeys everywhere!

Not at all, monkeys love that kind of stuff. No shame. No shame at all.

Thrilled you like them JB! They are really cute, you will see them properly soon, much nicer in the hand than in the shots

I have a quick update of the WIP character standard Astropath, shots a bit blurry but I am really exhausted and have to go to bed soon, so I will get better ones tomorrow when he is a little more advanced.

Green is about done bar a bit of wash shading to tone it down a little, and skin needs a little more work especially around the eye sockets. This is such a tiny, delicate model, at its widest it is about as thick as a terminators power fist, but perfectly proportioned, so it looks so much bigger in the shot than it really is. Will totally have to get a comparison shot with another mini to emphasise how petite this old dude actually is!

I also managed to transfer my entire painting desk up to my PC, which leaves me now able to browse, watch Netflix, and have a much higer desk to really reduce backstrain while painting So good.

Cheap Argos furniture sometimes has no handles for no discernable reason, but this can be fixed with Christmas ribbon if you are amazing.

I have some really awesome PM's I will reply to in the morning, I would love to get chatting but I am seriously so tired I might pass out on my keyboard and wake up with letters imprinted into my face. Again.

Wow, really loving that purple with the green. It really is a great model too. I bought the set largely for him, but really the others are quite nice as well. I wish GW did more "actual scale' models like him though!

Good call on the desk too! Raising my desk ~3-4 inches took a world of strain off my back, which was having other issues too. Made painting a lot more fun!

I would also like a video of Captain von Suckshimself if at all possible! If only to demonstrate to Pierogies how silly he looks when he does it to blankets

[With apologies to Ifalna, as I seem to be accidentally hijacking her blog]

Yes, monkeytroll - I'd found that my blog was getting a very low response rate, even when updating at the weekly level. I was getting a fair few views, but no-one seemed to be taking much of an interest. Now, the fact I paint to a TT standard, rather than a show standard, and tend to jump around from subject to subject may have had something to do with that.

Either way, with a fairly hefty drop-off in painting in Q4 last year, I decided to make a clean break of it and start with a new thread in 2012.

What? That sounds like an amazingly intense life. Cakes are serious business and only for the truly hardcore. Cuppa tea's are totally out of my league, way too extreme for me to possibly handle.

I think its such a big deal for me as I live in such a quiet area, actually managing some socialising online is important to keep me sane. Hopefully that will change when we move to a village in the near future, I don't want to end up a crazy hermit lady.

I finished off the Astropath for now, may well be more changes to come if JB would like anything altered

Happy that I kept him relatively dark while getting some nice rich tones, his staff is quite nice but the metals just don't show that well in photos sadly. Sliiight additional shine on him, but the varnish will dry nice and matte by tomorrow.

Oh no, I bought two types of teas yesterday. An Irish Breakfast tea, and a Vanilla Rooibos tea... Much like with my harder drinks, the Irish provided what I wanted. The rooibos tea is not real tea, but it smells awesome

And now for a little on topic talk

That astropath looks awesome. The purple looks really great against the green.

Perhaps he doesn't know that she thinks he's a little monkey man? Well, he can thank the Jokero for that!

He looks good, Ifalna. The robes look velvety. The staff looks very nice - almost warm.

The only bits that seem off are the aquila belt buckle and the skulls below on the bottom of his cords. In the photo, they almost blend (color wise) in with the cords. I'm torn. On the one hand, that allows the Astropath's face and hands to really stand out which is something that appeals to me. His face almost has a saintly quality. It "pops", which is exactly what I wanted. On the other hand, my tinkering nature makes me wonder how it would look if the aquila had a sepia wash over it (to give it more of a golden look) , and if the skulls had a green or blue wash to make them look like a metallic color rather than silver. Would that end up detracting from his face by being too busy?

Go ahead and move on to your next project. I'll have to mull over this and if I ever make up my mind, I'll try it out myself much later. I may have to test some washes over metal.

His silver bits are Mithril over darkened Boltgun, they don't show very well I agree, because my camera just plain cannot-into-metals. They really do stand about against the white cords, they just come across quite flat white in the shots :( Ill get you another shot tomorrow in day light and you can have a look, I will have no problem altering them if they still look off

Haha, the wee golden shoes are done! I took shots but having only the gold finished on a very early WIP mini looks, em, terrible. He is far more progressed now but is in his early messy skin stages so actually looks even worse. Early highlight stages for my detailed work always look complete gak, almost disheartening, but hey, just have to keep building on it, haha!

JB I took some shots of the Astropath to try and show the silver better, but my camera just aint up for it. Even with the flash I'm still getting a flat finish, it is so strange, I have no idea how to get the metals to reflect nicely. If you want me to go ahead with the washes then its no problemo!

It's perfect for oh so many responses, but I felt it really was earned by the stack-o-tanks.

Gobbo is coming along nicely, I took these really quick (with terrible lighting) shots while I was originally working on the metals, so I might as well throw them up.

My camera really does an awful job on metals, his little golden shoes are super detailed and deep. Curse you technology! /shakes fist

He is about 3/4 through his skin phase now so he is looking better, I would guess maybe 4 more skin layers total including blending washes. He is so freaking small... Whole mini is about the height of a space marine - the sword.

I'm using the same skin technique as I did on the Big Mek, but it is so bloody hard as he is oh so tiny, and his little slave grots holding up the shield are even more ridiculous haha, but hey, hes getting there. Shame I lost out on so much of today or I would have had so much more done :( Urgh.

I agree with vent. The skin tones do make this mini come to life. When I first saw the bare metal mini, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to paint it. Now that the skin is underway, I think you have crossed that tipping point that every mini has, where to go forward is more fun each step of the way.

The shield is very nice. Makes me wonder which Dwarf hold the Goblins looted.

I am using a Canon Powershot sx200is. its a really cool little camera, it just doesn't have the most perfect macro function ever, so it tends to be a bit grainy and not take in shine very well.

vent wrote:Really nice green there.Gives him a real look of life. Anxious to see some more

The green takes sooo long to get, think he is on his 12+ layer now, but it finishes in scorp green so has to be very well blended in and layered in with washes or it just looks far too electric.

I was very confused about how I was going to go ahead with him honestly, but Dysartes sent me a picture of a mini from the army he will match so that really helped out. I know exactly what you mean about the tipping point, for me its the moment where a mini stops being a struggle to make it look well painted, and starts being putting on touches that make it look better. A bit hard to explain.

JB wrote:The shield is very nice. Makes me wonder which Dwarf hold the Goblins looted.

It has a dwarf face right on the top haha, I will have to get an above shot.

Lewl, they really are fun to paint, something about how expressive they always are

So loads of work done on him today, hes starting to look like a proper mini.

Very final skin layer to go, which is mostly just to touch up overspill like around the gums and nails, gums and tongue need finishing and mouth needs to be shined. Black cloth still untouched, thinking of what colour would compliment him for the sash, crown, sword, and mug still in early WIP, but he is definitely getting there now.

Here is a glorious picture of him next to a coke can to emphasise how RIDICULOUSLY SMALL THIS MINI IS. THOSE TEETH NEAR KILLED ME. AUUGH.

Spent my spare time in between working on him making a Tumblr today. God, those things are really addictive.

He is super teeny, but the right size for a Goblin I think! Finding missed mould lines is another good reason to take shots often, it is crazy what you notice in photos that you wouldn't see without them, though once I start painting an area the lines usually become apparant Some very gentle filing sorted it, if I had hit his face I would have.. oh god. Don't want to think about it. May have employed the soulful eyed Apes suicide fingers.

He looks brilliant.

For the cloth I would go with dark grey as you already have a lot of color on the fig, another would make him look too busy and the grey would fit the figure well. The rope on the waist could then be painted red to add a splash of color there.

Great painting so far, cannot wait to see him finished.

The gums were still early on there, but they are finished now Painted the whole mouth mecharite red and started laying down washes to shade it ready for teeth, devlin mud and Baal red in layers, then once the teeth were finished I rehilighted the gums all the way up from mecharite to blood red with some baal washes to blend, and will finish it off with a wet effect after I matte varnish

Yeah the cloth is still a bit in the air decision wise, there is now a lot less dark on him as he is approaching completion and I am thinking keeping it super dark with dark blue highlights might help it pop best, I honestly won't know untill everything else is finished and I can really take in his tonal scheme. Even the base will make a difference, so I will likely do that first. I do also have to make sure he fits in witht he rest of the NG army too, but he should be fine for that with his little red hat

BossSlurpee wrote:I love the Mini! the skin tone is perfect. and i have to agree almost all gobbos are pretty awesome

ALL the gobbos! Loving them so much, seriously.

So here he is entering the last few stages, little red square is a spot of mithril I have to make sure to clean up. He is so tiny, it is so very easy to not spot things like this so the photos realllly help!

Its not like facebook, random people cannot add posts to your page. Its really interesting and once you get used to reading it you can find other people with very similar interests. Ok that's an excellent idea, I have to do it. Do you want him based the same as in the shot you sent by the way? I want to get the base done before I start on the cloth to make sure I get a good tone. According to the on-line dictionaries, it's a performing arts term first used in 1949 to refer to a fantastic or sensational show or movie. Probably something some PR guy made up.

That sample picture is how the rest of his Goblin army is based, so I figure we may as well blend in - admittedly, it isn't the most adventurous basing style, but he's happy with it.

Tumblr is a vast cavern. You can get lost there for hours, but you can also find stairs in the cavern that lead upwards to grassy meadows kissed by sun and moonlight. 'Tis both perilous and grand.

He seems a bit too drunk to me to do a very good job leading, he is likely just going to do a lot of screaming, perhaps some flailing!

That is a rather perfect description of Tumblr, but my favourite part so far is the amount of NSFW images you have no control over. A couple of times now my partner has checked my Dashboard to see a giant Mans Bottom that someone I follow pointed, and I have to try and explain how the Dash works and how she normally posts Art and not bums and blah blah blah. He's using it now too though, so he is starting to understand.

According to the on-line dictionaries, it's a performing arts term first used in 1949 to refer to a fantastic or sensational show or movie. Probably something some PR guy made up.

Wherever it came from, it is Boffing fantastic.

I remember it being the name of the joke shop that one of the older witches gets all her props from in the second Tiffany Aching book (A Hat Full of Sky) - I didn't realise it had had wider usage before then.

This has made it oh so sweeter Thanks guys. The more you know! /rainbow.

So little angry drunken gitgrotgobbo is now approaching completion, having based him exactly what I thought would happen happened, and his overall tone has shifted massively.

He is now bright enough that I have no problem keeping the black cloth very subtle, I think it will add to his overall finish. I still have to pick out some parts, his mouth needs a wet finish, base edge needs a smoothing, his gems need me to decide on a damn colour and get them on, and his robes and little red sash need to be finished off, but I am super happy with him so far. There was a lot of detail on such a tiny model and I think I managed to do it justice. I will remember him fondly and not as a little finger stabbing Boffer that took over a day to assemble.

As a long time player of a large squabbling horde of Orcs & Goblins for WHFB, I'll have to reveal that what you described is Goblin leadership.

I somehow didn't notice before that he has a large red hat and is falling drunkenly off of his perch.
I guess Oblivious Man is oblivious.

That is a wonderfully characterful mini. Dystartes, your friend will be greatly in your debt.
