on a side note, i did a quick cardboardmock up to see how a wholepunch would make a arch looking like some treated steel structure...
used two different sizes of holes ...i do see even now the limits of this as it is rather difficult to get the holes where they should be...at least for me...
probably thicker card is needed...this one was almost paperthin...
the aforementioned cherrybomb half ball...does need after all the glue is fully cured a job of GS to cover a slit that was needed but i think this round axle is quite fitting...
the pointy archway is a nice touch... i think i will try that one out tomorrow...
as for the holes... i am not sure that i can make them in a way that looks like a regular pattern... the holepunch is a bit of a crude jobtool...and this one needs a finer sort...hmm maybe i can tinker a bit around ...
Mantle!
That was the thechnical term I was looking for, thanks Shasolenzabi
Yup looking good Vik, though not convinced by the lightning holes on the face of the frame, they would be more likely to be on the side of the lengthways part of a T-Frame. hope that makes sense.
I'd say go for a more Victorian Ironwork look, like Crystal Palace in London, or this stuff. The Victorian train stations, especially, would be good inspiration, Ich glaube.
And you could arch each section, just much smaller arches, between two sides instead of between three sides.
at sennacherib
i bet these could make quite good kleatstructures for treads...unfortunatly i never came across them here in germany...i wouldn´t even know whre to get them...in germany we use only these:
... but thanks again for the link^^
at chibi
yep i wasn´t convinced by the holes too, too confusing and patternless...
at anvildude
again you are right in every sense of the whole scheme...tho i have no idea how to get that fretwork look on that scale...well actually maybe with lots of GS work it could be achieved, but then this tank wont see completion anywhere near the end of this millenia^^...
And you could arch each section, just much smaller arches, between two sides instead of between three sides
sorry you lost me there...i tried to arch each section, i am considering i made a major mistake when deciding that this turret was octagonal shaped...with uneven shaped parts... i had better do regular shaped sides... then this problem wouldnt have been arised...well...would that be a bit overkill to do the turret again? your opinion?
at shaso
thanks mate^^ thicker material for definite if i do it at all...i know that the style of the turret is generally good but the asymetrics of the design is literally killing lots of options...
thanks again for all your nice and helpfull comments... keep them coming my friends!
good argument, but the shape is thus complicating my work as it hampers progress, i have to make every bit customshaped, cant do a single thing in batches...this will teach me for the next tank, whenever this may happen...
For the lattice work effect, go for 1 big hole in the top corner and a 1 small hole below and 1 small hole to the side. The pic below is very crude but I hope you get the idea. If it helps to visualise, raise the o's at the bottom higher _______

Automatically Appended Next Post: so ladies and gentlemen...
i had a thought about the turret and the problems i still have to face... and thus i planned a bit of a sidestep to the work...a creational sidestep that is...
i tackled the problem from another angle... a mathematic tackle one could say... this evening i did so much geometry that even in my schooldays i haven´t done...^^
and i constructed the first structures of a symetrically correct (for a given value of correct^^) turret...
all done practically by foot^^ and nevertheless i got around to actually produce something i see as a success...
an ocagonal shape and it is in the process of curing... fear not the parts and bitz i used for the former turret wont be in vain... as at least it gave me insight as to how i could achieve the look i wanted...the major benefit is that this turret will be hollow and thus other option can be "opened"^^...
also i had a flash of ideas as to how to acomplish the lattice work effect or fretwork look...simple solution...i still used my holepunch but not to create complete holes but instead i tried to...er...well...better you give it a look... i think it is rather self explaining...
tho i want to add that i need your advice...for now i did two designs that are a bit different to each other tho still in a haha "framework" of a mindset...so please tell me which one you like better so that this then can get into serial production...
the new shape of the turret... it is still open at the top...
this is how the fretwork (whichever you help me decide^^) will be attached/used to the turrets walls...
i hope you all can discern the differencies of the two designs...
thanks for being here and let me in on your thoughts...
the one on the right looks really good, but on the model the one on the left looks great....mmm dillema. The shape of the turret is very precise matey. I like them both , they have a middle eastern Islamic feel to them . Very decorative and unusual. they will work well if you implement them mate.
thanks neil, for now i have to say the right one is the better looking one atm...i could experiment a third opiton with different sized holes so to give a bit of "more" to the look^^
the work was mainly pure on impulse but it is rather uneasy/difficult to get the holes precisly wher i want them to be...
Automatically Appended Next Post: yep, i know waht you mean... a bit of 1001 night...hmmm now to think up what to put inbetween those archs...
Ooooo... I like what you're doing there... Sehr Shön...
What if you did something similar, but on individual sections? So like a bunch of little 'c's, you could them arrange in a lacework pattern? It could be layered on top of a solid background... Use some thin wire for larger struts... Like assembling Stained Glass.
its a trciky one mate , you could use your left over holes? or try some victorian scroll pattern work with green stuff , maybe a line down the middle aithe arrow heads and scroll work comming of it

delicious idea...this will be in the works tomorrow...i have to try that...this will get so much messy^^
Kindly moderate your temper Sirrah! This is a family show and there is no need for such an outburst!
lol^^ sir, it was all for the lil kids.... they needed some letters for their soup...(er...you brits and american do eat alphabet soup?)
its a trciky one mate , you could use your left over holes? or try some victorian scroll pattern work with green stuff , maybe a line down the middle aithe arrow heads and scroll work comming of it
all ideas in the same direction i guess...it is sometimes such a big help that i am such a messy one and cant part with even the tiniest bit i have cut already^^ so i still have the surplus holes and the discs as well...
Automatically Appended Next Post: lol...c waht you did there...i bet no one could have foreseen how the internet would one day rearange speaking habbits...
we do, but what i can't figure out is why my cheerios having stopped talking to me. Now all they say is "OOOOOOOO".
i actually laughed out load...had to type that out as it is true...just pictured this with my kids..."mum...i´ve been pokin`my flakes but they never ever give me the backtalk as ususal..." creepy^^
at shaso: a bolter...same fashion as the sponson ones...but without the sponson can or with a similar hlafbal sponson as the turret maingun?
yep, that why updates often take so much time...see i am a year at dakka and i have almost 5000 posts... that is so much time that could be otherwise be wasted in other deeds...^^
but at least while here we feast our eyes on the work of not so lazy peeps ^^
at chibi...
wow just wow...that is a brilliant idea and i would give a pinky for playing on a board like that...i even would love to play without any dices and oponents^^ this would be a childhood reliving thing^^
the amount of detail is ...frightening...at first i had scale detection issues... then i realized that some minis i know of....by chance ...did you notice the mini mini zeppelin on the desk? what will they think of next???
well and i want to contribute something too after seeing this cool project provided by chibi´s link above...
new pics of the second turret installment...:
the gothic arches have been all made and glued to the turret hull...already a finer structure has developed...also i made some cressent shaped bitz and could thus create some sort of stained glass effect...will have to make a individual testing "window" arch to see how this might work out...
here are the pics for clarification:
note that on the second pic i show a sort of balcony sruface for the railings...should i complete this look?
first pic without brim...^^
Okay slight critique, the lines of the arch are very straight up and down, would it look better if they ran paralell with the edges of the plate? I really like what you have done with the serrated edge. Maybe start at the tip of the arch next time though to make the arch more prominent and also more symmetrical?
However yuo have had the balls to try it and it does look good. Looking forward to seeing more.
welllll, the critique is justifed, i only saw after completion that the arches are not really symetrically...i am a sinner when it comes to good craftmanswork...you have to look at the drillholes in the walls at my flat^^... unfortunatly as said the glue is set...so no more work to be done around to fix any of these ...
would it look better if they ran paralell with the edges of the plate
i think you are abng to right here, unfortunatly i never thought that way before... straight down lines was something that was as if the only way around to do...which i currently regret doing^^...how i hate that i always have to learn the hard way...
thanks for not beeing overly sweet with me dantay^^
lol...sounds like an epic fail...someone got serious trouble i guess for that lapsus^^
so you like little c´s? well i did some c´s alright as i holepunched the diskshaped leftovers from m,aking the archs... and did indeed some 50+ c´s out of them...also some almond shaped bitz too...tomorrow i will try to get a stained window look from that...cross fingers for that^^

Just make sure to keep that inside panel clean. The lacework should be only on the outside of the arch, nicht unter. Other than that, looks great!
at anvildude...what exactly did you mean by this? i am confused?...not inside any lacework? ...ok...tho then i cant add much more as the frame of the arch i think i cant reshape anymore...cardboard is not really something i would like to scrape something out of...
lol... to tell you the truth... the da vinci codex was just running on telly... if i was in landons position i would pop the bomb...figurativly speaking...art and science for me please and religion for others... same with meals...spare me veggies ...i just grab the meat^^
^^
we practice food segregation in our family... my wife gets the green things and me the fleshy and bloody bitz... my youngest son muses with me the "want some meat...." zomby slogan, while my middle son just sticks to noodles and sweets^^...the oldest is an omnivore...provided it is enough for two^^
not heard of the famous noodles with marmelade dish? mind you european marmelade not the english one... thats only for papa^^ as i really like that a lot^^
looked jack spratt up...his wife died of greasepoisoning...^^ well this wont happen then to my wife it seems^^
What I meant was using the 'c's as a third layer, on top of the arch you have glued already. Could do it either way, I guess...
hmmm this is something i haven´t thought about... bet this is also something that one has to see painted as well...as i wanted to give the tank a mecharite red and deneb stone scheme... i wouldn´t know if this would work...
at chibi:
i just did a google search and this came up from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Spratt ...
and to the taste issue...my sons are 3/5/10 and you should know by now...if they like it and eat it without complaining then i let them eat^^ sometimes it is like guerilla warfare to get something on their ribs...
re Jack Spratt:
Jack Spratt could eat no fat.
His wife could eat no lean.
And so, between then both,
They licked the platter clean.
Nursery ryhme first recorded in 1639 apparently.
May refer to King Charles and his wife, raising war taxes to fight Spain; over the struggle with Parliament who wouldn't let him.

vik, it's later in the evening *shakes fist*
I regret to announce that after a couple of weeks of tests, resulting in my absence of this thread, that I am now on a week-long holiday to fun, sunny...cornwall.
lol...anything particular interessting there? guess not...as the orkmoticon might suggest...but i guess you have to look at the bright side: now you can really chill out from the hardship of the weeks of testings..^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:lol...anything particular interessting there? guess not...as the orkmoticon might suggest...but i guess you have to look at the bright side: now you can really chill out from the hardship of the weeks of testings..^^
I would prefer my triumphant return to dakka and a week spent between sleep, food, xbox and laptop rather than a week-long trip to the cold wet south of england, but hey.
I'm bringing my laptop, but chances are I'll have little to no internet access. I might manage to get the odd post out now and then, though.
So, catching up after a while off, what's been happening in the Glorious Empire? Lots of interesting conversations
Oh, and some turrets. And a very nice looking turret. I actually like the fact the arches don't follow the turret edge but flare out at the bottom. Mind you, I have spent the last year thinking about Orky asymmetry rather than Imperial linearity
tell you what shrike: you could use the time without web access to really go into your fluff^^ create a world or two while your at it^^
had a frown as i read brither...??? then it dawned upon me^^
thick fingers covered in sweets at your keyboard^^?
at first i thought you had a typo there and wanted to write picts^^ but then after a quick and not so indepth google search i understand what piskies are about^^
and:
googled these as well:
My brither and his family are in Cornwall at the moment
They are interesting
There is lots to see and do in Cornwall and you have to say hello to the piskies.
I would love to go to Tate St Ives
The Eden Project would be good but too busy no doubt.
point proven, cornwall can be quite interesting...^^
odd posts and french brithers . it has to be viks blog lol. weekend is over vik get posting !. the red and stone sounds like a worthwhile experiment , very preatorian.
vik we stopped at a hotel halfway seeing as it's a 6-hour drive, about 45 minutes to go.
my plan for today- flop onto bed, unpack essentials, flop some more, eat, go swimming, eat, flop, sleep. my perfect anti-travel lag thing. whether it will happen is another matter.
seems there will be a lot of floping to be involved in this holiday^^ hope all this flopping will not strain any ankles or such^^ tho i have to say a six hours worth of driving never hurt my kids...when we drive to the coast last summer we had that amount of driving too and the kids generally stayed better in shape than me and my wife^^ and she did all the drivingb and me i drove by train^^ so....seems you tenns get pretty slack these days^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:seems there will be a lot of floping to be involved in this holiday^^ hope all this flopping will not strain any ankles or such^^ tho i have to say a six hours worth of driving never hurt my kids...when we drive to the coast last summer we had that amount of driving too and the kids generally stayed better in shape than me and my wife^^ and she did all the drivingb and me i drove by train^^ so....seems you tenns get pretty slack these days^^
Ah, but kids have metric craptons of energy. teens are naturally sleepy and so imagine them after 6 hours of travel, no wi-fi and having just done 11 hours of tests over 7 days.
be sure of my deepest concolencies...seems that you barely keep awake/alive with a strong willpower effort...i sincerely hope for your well being and that your aprents provide you witha nourishing dose of food and entertainment to help you keep up the spirits^^... for some reason i cant picture myself asa teenager anymore... seems that this period is erased from my longterm memory...
so with all this cornwall talk...i see a current need for a change of subject... and to derail this discussion only new input is an apropriate way of doing this...
so i present the further deeds on my turret...:
namly the mounting of the maingun and a hatch and a barbarette (thankfully provided this term by shaso, who pointed it out to my in his thread of oddball tanks^^ go and have a look for yerself^^)
the barbarette bolter was done in the same fashion as the bolters form the sponsons, builot from cut and shaved mortars...
the maingun after some fruitless tries to rebuild a better version was salvaged from the earlkier turret tryout...and also notice the halfball connections to the turret, made form cherrybombs...i guess on a bigger scale this could also be done with tabletennis balls... an idea i maybe will try ot for future sponsonprojects...(can somebody say airship?^^)
so here are the pics...:
by the way, the turrets SM hatch and boltermount was mounted higher on a milkpackagecap...if someone would be interessted in such details^^
i know what you mean...anything thrown in there is bound to tear open the tank...but the main thing/aspect of the tank is it´s attempted steampunkish look, this in itself is so much unrealistic as any tank/vehicle that has ever been produced from hannibal smith or macgyver^^
the work is purely based on its astethics and i guess it will later on provide other achilles heals as well...
yeppers, i thought that too and i am currently trying to figure out the amount of archwork and such decor and their possible positions... a thankful place would be the upper hull and the tracks of course...
and saw your recent update on the chimeara and comparrissionshot with the lancer...and posted there^^
as for painting...well i wont even try to make a schedule here^^
oh by the way...i try to make a stormbolter to stubber conversion for hatchmount...do you think this is wise? longer barrel and such things on the bolterbarrels of the SM outfit?
looking really good, and with models, good looks and aesthetics are more important than practicality!
my word exactly^^ and to tell a truth: i don´t know when or even if i will ever be able to field the behemoth anytime soon, would need to find a local gameing group first...or for that matter play at home with family^^
guess with all my mixed up troops i will rather look for a club...tho i have currently the feel that germany is not the right country for living and gaming in when your in to tabletop...
at shaso... guess when i have a bit of a force to play with (fully painted...honor codex please!) then i will look for some likeminded peeps in the nearer `hood...
at dantay...:
well it is kind of on the floor lready only raised slightly... guess i have to put an unbased mini on it to better show...
thze railing idea has a ceratin thing... i grant ye that...have to digest that idea...firearms and such things could add lots of charcter even further...
Also what are your ideas for guunports on the main turret and the rear facing gun?
ähm? what do you mean by that? the bolter and maingunbarrel are attached already? or do you mean stats? as for rules i am a true noob... toatlly unknownst to the big books atm... i only read the fluffy parts for now in them^^
I could imagine 3 or 4 men stainding up on the turret blazing away as they are surrounded by hordes of angry aliens
I was meaning how do the gunners inside the turret see what they are shooting at? What method will they use to target things or will there be a guy on the roof screaming directions or elevations at them?
I was wondering for the main gun if a periscope would look cool? Some tube coming from the deck up to the rim of the turret then bent to look forward?
Or a tv camera strapped to the end of the gun barrel?
I was meaning how do the gunners inside the turret see what they are shooting at? What method will they use to target things or will there be a guy on the roof screaming directions or elevations at them?
yepppers... havent thought about that... the screaming part is the easiest^^ but i think i just love your periscope idea! i think i can find some useful tibes for that!!! consider that idea nicked^^
a cam might be a bit to techy looking for a steamtank tho...but i probably could do that the easiest way as i have lots of sprues from SM tanks...the hatches and rocketlacnher stuff and all... but the periskop is the thing!
i will get a pic of troops on the turret... more than two would look a bit too crowded... and there will be still the gunner seen on top...but a pair of pistoliers handguns straped to the railings would be fun...
the turret is coool , love the decorations and twin guns. i think post box style eye lookout points would rectify the visibility lssue , and possibly add something to the space between the arches.
thanks neil, i´ve done postbox eyeslits on the sponsons... and maybe i stuff the landingramp idea in order to instal another bolter and a lookout to the fron... but the periscope idea sounds more win to me than another slit for sight ... also i dont really understand where exactly those should be located?
Viktor von Domm wrote:guess with all my mixed up troops i will rather look for a club...tho i have currently the feel that germany is not the right country for living and gaming in when your in to tabletop...
aye, just don't field death korps.
or paint little moustaches on them
great news- I HAVE WI-FI!!! so now I can check up on you in the evenings.
me thinks i have to ask the obvious question... what the feth is WIFI... never was on good term with most abbreviations...
so peeps...for those still listening...^^
i made an ok looking periscope...pics tomorrow...and i am currently working still on the stubber...work isn´t flowing ...or in another describing... have to get new barrels on the stubber... as i am using a stombolter from thSM tankkit, should i do a double barreld one or a singlebarrel stubber?
wireless internet for laptops etc. The periscope will suit the style of the tank and is a really nice touch . I vote for twin barrels , as they always look awesome.
Viktor von Domm wrote:guess with all my mixed up troops i will rather look for a club...tho i have currently the feel that germany is not the right country for living and gaming in when your in to tabletop...
I think it'd be great to have a spotter on top shouting down through one of those sound tubes they had on old steamships. You know, the "Engine Room, Full Ahead!" things? That might just be me, though.
shasolenzabi wrote:Hey Vik, more steam punkish would be like a telescope or some such optics from one of the round arch spots above the gun mounts.
aye, a telescope or periscope would serve well.
If it was me the temptation would be too much and I'd ruin it by painting cartoon eyes looking out of it
ach anvildude...now you tempt me yet again with such a good idea... a speaking tube...darn this space on the turrt will get so crowded with devices...
and to shaso, the telescopeidea i had too, i even had some goodlooking parts collected in my scratchbuiltbox...^^ talk about likeminded minds^^
at chibi, fristly i thought i need a gunner at the hatch... someone directly operating the machinegun i am currently building...which i am afraid will not include airholes but will have the dubblebarrellook^^ then you and anvildude gang up on me and tempt me witha screaming spotter...hmmm...this then has to be a sarge of course as only a sarge would have the lungs to be a good screamer^^...*rumages around in his bitzbox...*
and at shrike last but not least...the periscope for times when no spotter can be used (gaswar and such things...) has indeed something that might look like an eye...i used the small ball from inkcartridges you use for pens...that tine ball that gets shoved in the cartridge...well these i am talking about:
that could be painted as an eye...this would surely look tremendusly funny but might indeed ruin the model...hmmmm...what to do....^^
later that day i will get you the promised pics...now with crowded turret^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:that could be painted as an eye...this would surely look tremendusly funny but might indeed ruin the model...hmmmm...what to do....^^
hm, maybe make a proper, serious one and then a jokey one and see if the joke one ruins the model?
The tank commander would be the chap to operate the machine gun Vik (unless he has a sword! )
So you could have him at the mg and still have the pipes and scope to make the turret look busy with gizmos.
Personally think the comedy eye would ruin the effect.
but cartoony stuff would work if it was on the tank, like they used to paint pics, though more usually known as nose art on aircraft
well i thought i choose the easiest army... now i am a bit confused...or was that the drybrushed all over necrons?^^
well the turret as promised... for now i dont have a good idea for the speakingtube...the stubber doublebarreled is added and also a small means of communication to troops and such...and the periscope of course^^... also added hatch with the door thingies...so here are the pics...:
Im not sure of the scale of the cannon but any way those ink cartridges could be used as empty shells? Really looking forward to the finished product on this one!
sounds like a good idea to get that speaking tube done...will try that one out...
at TQsplinter
the ink cartrideges are atm only for the ball inside them to be used as very small details... tho i too thought about someday to use them for shells of a basilisk scratchuilt... with an apropriate scalewise fitting barrel of course...^^
If you wanted, could get a small glass bead, paint an 'eye' on one side, then put that side on the inside of the periscope... so it looks like an eye looking out through it, more realistically.
the grammophone tubes look really good to me... i thought about such propaganda things too...guess something like that will happen later tho...
at anvildude, i will try to show you how i used the glassbead (actual as mentioned above it is a small plastiuc ball) in the periscope...it is rather fidly to do but i done it nevertheless^^ painting will dicide how this is going to be done^^
and shaso, you forgott the most coolsome looking pic of those aperatures:
holy moly on both accounts^^
the herman hesse referrence...didn´t knew he was read in britain...tho i have to say i didn´t read much of him in school...(least outside school^^)
and neil...guess you scored a new achievment here on this blog... first femal pic?^^ and for those pics i do insist^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: just googled the Glasperlenspiel at wiki...lol...uncreativity and fear of...may the gods preserve us
Have read most of Hesse's major works.
Steppenwulf is a cult thing I believe. Re Read it a few years ago but has been a while since I last tucked in.
Apart from Siddhartra which is a perennial for me.
Magic Mountain was made into a film or TV series I think
Thinking about it Hesse is about the only author I re read for some reason having read a lot of the books at least a second time. Don't normally do that.
the TV adaption i saw as a youngster... was bored then... i think i could value this now much better...
and by the way... staying here on these blogs with peeps like you chibi and neil and shaso really boosts up my vocabulary...the words i have to look up sometimes...
i think my interest for fantasy and specially terry pratchett has ruined my taste in literature so much that i am mostly unable to look into other authors works...but i really like how classic german authors gets read over the channel^^ makes my enthusiasm (or rather the lack of) for these doesn´t show up as much^^
Magic Mountain is by Thomas Mann of course what a dolt! (me not Mann )
Also read much of Mann's work in translation.
Not read any Pratchett but my daughter loves his books.
Don't read a lot of fantasy tbh Not strictly true because my concentration is limited these days I read a fair bit of teenage fiction, and there is a lot of good writing about and often with a fantasy element.
Kids today are so lucky!
that kids literature sure has come out of the kidergarten for sure... but one has to avoid the glamour vampires^^ and then i think pretty much all is a good read... i was unsure of the "zauberberg" ...so i let it slip^^
is this switch to teen literature due to sleeping habbits of yours? obviously chapters are shorter in this kind of books...so one can better pause for a nap or two^^
That is part of it and also the ME affects concentration too. When you re read a paragraph for the third time and still can't remember what was written then it is time to put the book down!
But yes the shorter chapters help a lot as they provide good resting points. Also the style tends to be suitable and don't have to wrestle too much with abstract concepts etc
whip cracks would do wonders if it wasn´t for the wife and kids all cramped at home...i tried to force me to some work, but then my wife and me watched some telly...(for clarification... today is in germany fathers day...and also my kids kindergarden are closed...for a week...)
so hobby related no whipcracking had any effects, as we had to tour the playgrounds of our neighberhoods...gosh...the kids were packed in mud^^
definatly and stuff^^ i think in the long run i have to seriously look into purchasing some fancy steampunky charcter minis... there is a range from a for now by me forgotten producer who has some very nice minis... along those lines as your shown mini... but if you show that you sure as heck have to say where you`ve found that beard with a steamgun^^...you know it is all show and tell here... the mean teases all got thrown out of fairy land^^
Investigating further is half the fun ^_^ Who knows where you will end up! I actually came across some Dr Who Miniatures I might get....and a new Necromunda Gang type minis.
got some sweets and my middle son felix told me a poem he learnded at nursery... i was quite astounded by the amount of this... early in the morning, and he told it with such sincerity only a five year old can do...i was really proud of him!
^^ and the linky is something i could very well get totaly brock on^^

those mini's look really good, you should definitely get them.
as ever oh so true...mainly i try to get my stuff via ebay and cut a good bargain... only from time to time i am bold enough to order new stuff...tho i recently talked to my wife how disapointing it is to use second hand stuff.. but then i am hunting currently for bitzboxes... this is really fun to do^^
ah this was the afore mentioned company who´s name i forgot! thanks chibi, there are some fine minis with that company...
but it doesn´t stop with steampunky minis with them... they also have a nice and big range of post apocaliptic minis...and those sowjets look tasty too...
at j3r03n hmmm 25 with tophat included is really small indeed...
have just seen this on weety´s thread:
great site with lots of cool minis:
http://www.fighting15sshop.co.uk/index.asp don´t get shocked by the bunny girls but there is a whole lot of cool minis... everything you could dream of and then some...look for some of the weird vehicles there... tanks looking like helmets^^ hilarious and rather tempting me for a buy^^
That is correct Vik
An old penny was quite large, about 2.5cm diameter.
A farthing was a quarter of a penny in value and about 0.5cm in diameter.
Hence the name of the bicycle.
tomorrow i will show you some new update pics... i have been working on the hull currently ...i created a viewpoint to the front of the tank...cant find a suitable internet pic atm... geuss you hust have to wait^^
It's the official AUSCON mini for this year's event. I believe you can still buy them from the AUSCON website, although shipping's a bit steep outside Oz, and I did see that CoolMiniOrNot had a small supply for sale, but they might have already sold out.
Interesting bit is the following line: "Following the event, there are plans to cast the figure in metal, and sell it through this site as part of the Guild of Harmony range."
Cant believe I forgot to include a link to the actual page yet again >_<
no highjacking folks...this was meeded^^ a very RRRRRRRR model i have to say...or to put it in another words:
like Hank MC Coy used to say: Oh my stars and garters...
looks really good... i think this mini would make it in itself useful on the table... as of now i can´t figure any use in my army other than hiving it to drool over^^
beside highjacking, whoever doesn´t come up with fresh updates by oneself is bound to get his thread highjacked^^
so again pics happen later...viewpoint steampunk/gothik style^^
nah been never the guy to use caps... i am going to bald in a hurry and won´t cover the heat with caps^^
in all seriousness, the typing isn´t my favorite thing to do, so i avoid pressure of keys whenever possibile...besides of course this key here: "^^" which i use all the time^^
at shaso... the way you put it i should visit a shaso thread addicted selfhelping group...
"hello my name is Viktor von Domm (see caps...god am i weird) , i am an addicted follower of shasolenzabi´s multiple threads..." and the crowd goes: BOOOOOOOMMMMMM^^
So many cool things!!!! - frickin unicycle cavalry!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to buy. One day I will have unicycle cavalry.
Going to go see what the deal is with shasolenzabi´s multiple threads now. 943 images sounds promising (more than I have even)
why, thank you! ^^
be wary of hanging around in the dark threads of vik where MODs dare not patrol, you may catch the taint of vikitis, symptoms include:
-repetitive use of "...", added to by shrike...
-off-topic tendencies...
-many monty python and shakespeare references...
-and when you know you are unsavable...
the dreaded "^^"
hello my fellow followers... or should i say loonies for short?...
seems all the kids had a fun time while papa was out and bring coale back home...er... making pics of his beautiful tank...er...
well you better start to praise ceasar as you don´t want him to bury you...(so this is for the shakespear referrence...)
and in these threads of mine going off topic is a virtue i want to tech you faithful followers of mine...it is not as stated above by a trembling acolyte shrike a malady as colorful as such a name might point out but a blessing! (no nurgle quotes here please...)
if one might ask now where all this is going and where the feth the whole point is...i think this is still a painting and modeling thread and thus i show progress:
the viepoint done in steampunkish/gothic fashion (hopefully):
closeup
as for the unicycle cav...hmmm i would rather like to have these instead:
and
as seen on j3r03n `s blog (look in his sig)and shaso´s odd ball thread (but bliey where it was...his blog is sooooo long^^)
as always comments and criticism you can directly mail to the pope...just give the letter to your local clerical servant...^^

Automatically Appended Next Post: those weapons are very cool looking... and the fact keeps me kicking in the rear that i will one day need to buy me a techpriest... and these could be a good weaponry...if i ever choose to make one on my own...which i probably will...
cool return via AC/DC...one extra point for coolness...tho i have to take that one imidiatly away as i couldn´t watch and show this stunt to my wife...germans aren´t allowed to watch... darn...

was pretty unsure of the eyeslots...thought they were a weak spot designwise...so thanks for reassuring me^^

I got three of those wheels and no use for them at this time... I guess ill be forced to start a Steampunk Army too, Vik!
yeah do so... cause misery loves company^^...how far i could have been already with that army (if i wasn´t so lazy too^^) when i had done a vanilla IG army...
Eh, youre building a super heavy tank from scratch. I just won a Shadowsword in a weekly giveaway. Of course said tank travelled to New Zealand and is now on its way back to me (small misunderstanding at the company that sold it). But my army is coming along pretty decent and its not anywhere near a vanilla IG army either.
well go ahead... i would love to see some steampunkish visions of yours... as i see it you are fullyitch your dwarven army into steampunk style... as i see you still havent painted them ...or am i seeing things wrong... dwarves and steampunk is a perfect match for me...and you got tree of the monowheeler tanks... cool, they could look cooltogether in a formation...
Hey, you ain't the only Steampunk on here. I'm doing Steampunk Orks myself. I just need a camera or something to get some pics up... Getting really annoying always saying "Well I did that once, on this one really cool model I can't show you".

i'm totally with you on this my friend, it is so hard to hold back knowing that i do have the use of a camera on the weekends, but that's not what a P&M blog should be about. and I have so many 'kewl' projects rattling around right now, like 40K Skaven, my looted Drop pod, converted deff koptas, 40 K black orks as 'Ard Boyz, and so on, and so on.
at anvildude: we definatly have to see your orks...and real soon please^^ as i think i could learn to make scratchbuilt motors that way^^
at sebastiansyn... well this is a nice range of projects... alert me if you ever get your cam^^ looted droppod? does it still act as a droppod or now for something even more sinister?^^
at shrike:
flamer...ok...i had originally thought of using a flamerset i got from an IG tankset...making it more steampunkish...how should i do that ...any ideas?
as for the work on the frontside... i have expanded my area of work so to speak and did some decoration on the side as well:
just a workspace quick pic^^ without flash...to show some raised details...
and then with the flash to show the whole scene better:
here are the pics to prove i haven´t been lazy all the time i promised the flamers:
first flamer attached and with deco arches around it... notice i have taken off the viewpoint for now as was needed for underground deco arches...
detailed shot of the flamer barrel...notice thi is my idea of a flamer...ignition is inside^^ (lame idea but didn´t want to add that ignition flame )
and the second flamer attached...as both are a tad spaced out i thought that these too where operated by a standing soldier in the tank...and point to the aimed place linked...
and the matching detailshot...
all mounts are deliberatly covered in glue as when dried this will give a nice texture to the gunmounts and thus something i can use to drybrush the metalics on...i think i can thus create a nice weathered effect right there...some dents and such things as would fit for a brassy look...
Flamers look perfect, its really comming together now mate, the body details make a big difference , it adds some amount of great un 40k gothic ness. who long before you can start to add paint ?
Hmmm, I like. As A superheavy, it will rarely dip through muck, so it will always be a good weapon. It is that logic why i did that witht he Vasily tank. it hardly get's to move, so it's bow weapons as also way low in the front as well on that monster. Once the treads are in place this should have that lower flamethrower nice and high, (soldier level at least) and a scary proposition for the opponents once close enough!
Nice thing about twin-linked Heavy flamers, you only roll for wounding, and these will let you re-roll that wound roll nice eh?
well folks i have to admit concerning Dr. Who i never had the time and the urge to dive into this story...if you all insist i could invest some time to try to understand the phenomenom of this series...promise!
at chibi:
looking really spiffing Vik
thanks
at shaso:
your right the flamers barrels are a bit on the long side and might get stuck... but your reasoning that this is indeed a superheavy and thus wont have to hunt after enemies instead the prey gets lead to the hunter^^...so i think all will stay that way...

well too much of a good thing cant be wrong, eh?^^

well i didn´t know i had to live after his image...hold the line...still investigating...

thanks for the big compliment^^, there is still a big ammount of work to be done...and i haven´t even begun to get the riveting started....^^ but i am more and more enjoying the thought of getting closer to getting that beast painted...guess you have to stay tuned^^
as for some motivational pics....done a setup to show the whole stuff as is currently...and i feel a bit proud to say so by meself^^ note that the following pics only show a state of the tank not up to date... some stuff i did that is not inlcuded: i sculpted an escape hatch beside the lower flamerbarrel in that empty space there... also i added some steelplating to the tracks sides...this will take enourmus amounts of rivets...^^OMG what have i gotten myself into^^ maybe i will try that glue riveting idea from shaso...to get things faster done...
Awesome! can't wait to see all of it ready for painting! I will also give you a pic for the set up for the glue for making the rivets. (They made me start thinking I could make candy or cake with the similar principal!)
I was right, the lowest flamer is about the height of a soldiers' head! that will fry them good!
The assembled whole is heading in a nice direction, I can see almost the way you will go for the track sections armor and special works like the turret and the main hull has gotten, that hole-punch has worked well for you in that regard!
Vicious, me? just because I like the smell of Promethium burning in the morning? It smells of....Victory!
You have come a long way - looking very impressive. Did you have more detail planned for the sides? (Apologies if I have skimmed over that somewhere...)
oki i am really flattered now^^ thanks a heap for the nice comments^^ at arakasi and chibi:
the sides are currrently in the works...this will take a bit of thought there...on my part at least... because, lets face it peeps i have little real world knowledge of tanks and their needed parts... recently i got a shipment of bitz from zinge (blog here on this board too!) , some grills/vents i want to add to the tracks... and also i have some ladders i want to attach...where i have to figure out first... then there was this idea with the railings to go on top of the sponson parts... and rivets glare of course... also some of the things i have to come up with: -the boiler engine part -lots of tiny details like spotlights and smokelaunchers... -equipment and maybe if i have some space to use some spare shoes as well... -if i can figure out how to i wnated to add some figs on the turret in the arhces... some ornamental statues to go for a more cathedral looking flare^^ ... and probably much more...oh and of course the big exhausts^^ cant forget them^^
Vicious, me? just because I like the smell of Promethium burning in the morning? It smells of....Victory!

awesome.
that is truly steampunk in a can (literally ^^)
can't think of any improvements, other than MOAR RIVETS!
if it was a regular guard tank I'd say otherwise, but seeing as it's steampunk it suits rather well. keep up the good work! (boy I'm getting tired of saying that ^^)
that one i know^^ the tarkus refference i had to look up, but boy did i stumble into something when i began making that tank...actually i planned something like mammoth as a tank name, but thats days gone by now.... tarkus it is! and itho the music is a bit too experi-mental (hur, hur, hur) for my taste the cover of their LP and then my tank do have lots in common...^^
I remember that album coming out and one of my brother's pals turning up at the house with it.
Not sure Ma and Pa were very impressed when it was played on the stereogram!
Ah! Happy days. Three day week, electricity cuts, skinheads beating up smaller kids at school. Then a clip around the ear'ole for getting your uniform trashed when you got home.
But we were happy.
Well Vik, no worries, inspirational media is what those many tank pics are for helping you with! In the mean-time, i have also pics of my "rivet-gun" as it is called now.
Recyclesd a spent plastic glue container and hooked it up with the precision tip from some super glue.
[/img]
Remove container cap.
[/img]
Attach tip to bottle and squeeze PVA glue which is now inside it until you have the right amount for the "rivet"
[/img]
Automatically Appended Next Post: Happy rivetting!
Just trying to help Vik realize how close to finished his tank really is and how to make quick and easy "rivets" Now with this helpful hint anyone can make "rivets" as long as they Have 1) an empty plastic model glue bottle.
2) a unused precision tip form a super glue container(Zap-a-gap) in this case.
3) PVA glue to fill the bottle up with.
A little trial and error on a practice sheet and you too can get the right sized "rivets" for any job!

I was completely expecting "order now! Only £19.99."
yep... comes from all that tank fluff you created... you´re getting good at that now^^ i was expecting something on the line of:
our telephone lines are open 24/7...
thanks for the tip with the gluegun^^ the thing is that i have to figure out how to get an empty fitting gluebottle...the kind i have...grrr...but the idea and the small tip (the one to screw on the bottle, quite confusing vocabs^^) i will try out... maybe i could use windowcolor too? does anyone have heard of that stuff? acrylic paint that you decorate windows with in colorful pictures:
with this i could add real small drops...afterwards they might fit the bill...i will do a testsheat for you to help me decide...
as for some little show and tell for the tracks i promised...remember here at viktor von domm all day steampunk army delivery, we set great store in the last word of our slogan "delivery"...thus we deliver this:

LOL! Hurry now, and we will add in a special deluxe tool kit and tow cables for FREE! just for calling in the next minute!
Not quite what I saw you doing, but it works! no wonder you were worried about so many rivets. Oh yeah, the tip is simply snugly pushed onto the bottle.
IF this design stays then this will be a riveting nightmare^^ i am still thinking about it...tho it will give even through the lots of lines a nice bounch of detail that will go nicely with the rather simple paintscheme i have in mind for these parts...basecoat then wash and then weathering were my thoughts...

exactly what the guy at the telly just said^^ (minus the tow cables^^)
like the new design , mate, i think its better than what i imagined , its possible that you dont have to rivet at all , if you add some of your fancy hole detailing over the top , i think you may get away with a plated affect, Its is after all your own design and who says that your empire hasnt come up with a new super strong welding method , that renders rivets pointless. and from a asthetic point of view , so long as their is detail , it wont matter .
is after all your own design and who says that your empire hasnt come up with a new super strong welding method , that renders rivets pointless
good point, i have thought about doing only welding lines done by pva glue to then drybrush over with a bit of metalics as a weathering effect... problem is/was that the consistency of glue or as i also tried out window color...or any acrylic thicker substance is not sufficently even...this then leads to blotchy parts and then i get something that the folowing pcs quite good describe...
here i did a testing of plating and artificial rivets done by window color (fleshtones...) and another windowcolor (now white later transparent i use it for watereffects) witha smaller tip...and then my holepunch made rivets, smallest version from cardboard aplied with a needle...i think the outcome speaks for itself...
the thickness of the plates ressembles the thickness of the actual plates on the tracks...so question time now...should i do two lines and one dot in the middle at each far side of the plates as shown with the with holepuch rivets or just two parrele line of rivets in the fashion of the window color rivets?
complete test shot
fleshtone window color rivets...too big for my taste but smaller was not an option here...
smaller windowcolor rivets with the white then clear substance...smaller but still mighty uneven and unreliable...
I'd use the smaller ones, just to keep it in scale. Remember, these rivets would've been hand-forged, and hand-placed, so they wouldn't all be perfectly even, or same sized.
Actually, when I saw the side of your tank, I instantly though that it looked like Wooden planking. And for a steampunk look, that 'would' be great, Ich glaube. Like a barrel type of construction.
Remember, it doesn't have to make sense, and it would be rather funny to have a tank with Front Armour 13, Rear Armour 11 and Side Armour 9.
at anvildude... those figures doesn´t mean much to me, may you discribe that a bit further? do the stats get better the smaller they are? and such stats would be woodenly weak?
as for the wooden boards and the barrel look ...a steamtank done in that fashion for WHFB would make perfect sense in my book...for a 40k related version i think this would be a tad too old fashioned looking...also i would get rather lost as to how to paint them for a suitable wooden look...atm i am thinking of giving the tank a sandy maincolor...with aplications in red meacharite red) ...and brass and copper maybe...

this is a good reason, sadly i tend to be nitpicky when it comes to certain details...thus i think i will stick to the cardboard rivets....
with all my dismissing your suggestions, please bear in mind that i highly value your thoughts and suggestions to my works, i am most thankful for your different aproach to the things shown and talked about here...they help me a great deal as i think i can get pretty easyly stuck in my ways^^
cheers, vik
oh and by the way... today evening i did both tracksystems in the barrellook on both sides...this means that deatailwork can start tomorrow and then riveting and then even mounting the tracks to the body...what more can a true follower of this thread ask for?^^ well obviously a paintjob...er...^^
I actually liked the little rivets the best beacuse of there small size , but iam pretty sure that the liitle carboard holes will look great when done matey.
went to a local artshop... boy did i spent more money then i wanted^^...baught me one of these chineese artbrushes...which they wrote in olden times...then a nice stencil i will be maybe using for some cool freehand looking motivs...stay tuned^^... and something i will do after the tank^^ lol... this might justify a new thread after all^^
If you are are going to do rivets out of cardboard I assume you dont mind flat topped rivets. If that is the case have you though about making them out of styrene. if you get the smallest styrene rods you can and cut thin slices it would give you the same effect but it would be more sturdy as its plastic.
i know of this methode but the holepunhed rivets are a lot easier done and i lack currently the stock of rods for this... tho i have tried to use spaghettis... first lightly cooked and then cut...but they were to long for my taste...
and concerning the issue with the shape of the rivets, i know real rivets have a more round shaped cap and are seldom flat... but for me the more archaic look with flat rivets works fine^^
