I'm still looking for a fatigue arm holding a steering wheel.
Yep, lots of arms I think. We'll be switching back to offering a good mix of parts for both gamers and hobbyists.
That's good news. I like to have a good mix of poses in my figures and you can only squeeze so much out of the GW plastics. Really glad you jumped on the bare arms grenade and got some good kits going for that sort of thing.. I'm only about 30 models into a 80 or so model army and the bits box was starting to sputter.

Well, it's the end of my day here in the Mad Robot Labs...that means the Roll Call for the DaNamian Jungle Fighters has come to an end. I consider it a huge success! 48 squads were preordered, we put a number of new parts into circulation:
3 Head Sets
2 Torso Sets
3 Arms Sets
1 Leg Set
2 Rifles
3 different sizes of Backpacks
1 Accessories kit
MR-60 Torso
MR-79 Torso
All in all, a great bit of work! A huge THANK YOU to all who have participated in this Roll Call. Production has already begun on many of the parts and I hope to have the first squads shipping out in the next few weeks.
Ordered my first batch of minis using the Custom Squad creator. Anxiously awaiting their arrival. Gotta say though, I got a shipping notice very quickly after placing my order.
@Gorman: Rob from Kirton Games has been in touch but nothing beyond that. If you can convince your FLGS to start carrying our products, you might get some free stuff! Details are HERE
Here's a sneak peak from the CDF Upgrades, coming out in a month or so...
I think I just found my new stormtroopers or whatever GW likes to call them these days. My wallet is nog going to like you when these become availeble.
Holy moley, that's sweet! Is this multi-part? Separate torso, head, limbs, & weapon for easy customizing? I can see a CDF force in my future, especially if you make a female CDF trooper or two!
@vfults: it's all modular, we currently sell the torso and the rifle. The head, shoulder pads, and arms are all part of the new offerings that will be coming out in a few weeks, maybe a month. I don't have any immediate plans to do female parts.
@theophony: "look into my eyes..." Yeah, the bionic hand can potentially serve a dual purpose depending upon what you're using it for. Also adds a little bit more variety of that isn't necessarily found in the "source material".
mad robot wrote: I don't have any immediate plans to do female parts.
Spoiler:
Srsly though, with Trollforged getting really close to their production releases, and these right around the corner.. I think it's time for me to pick up the APC from Khurasan.. order up a squad of these, some of the TF aliens and set up a nightmare-inducing scenario for my kids!
What are the odds of these arms having a rolled sleeve variant? I'll be making a large order of these one way or another, but it would make my life a bit easier to not have to cut the pads off and mount them on the DaNamian arms. These look remarkable.

I may be mistaken but I believe the pads are a separate component.

If you're talking about the CDF upgrades, as MLaw said, they will be separate. The CDF squad package will allow you to select which arms you want, in addition to the shoulder pads.
your russian bits look second to none. im surprised it took me so long to stumble across them on the internet.
normaly i like converting russian hats onto catachan heads, but your russian head sprues look so.... 'russian'. remind me of this guy from call of duty... 'http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Chernov?file=CoDWaW_Vol_II.jpg'
Best thing to do is check the Roll Call status at the website. You can also log in to your account to see the status of your order. I try to keep that as updated as possible.
After some consideration, Mad Robot has made the decision to delay the DaNamian Jungle Fighters release by one week. That includes the new Personalities set. Sorry, i know it sucks, but we really need to make good on all the pre-orders before we can start selling to the general public.
Only delayed for a week to fulfill pre orders first hats of to you Steve for customer service, Kickstarter 3 months delay and no updates for weeks so Gold Star go to the head of the class
I got my Danamians yesterday. I wasn't expecting them to have a VHS case. Nice touch. The set looks great in person and I can't wait to start putting them together.
Got mine too. very nice casts! I was a little impatient and glued two figures together without washing them first , I should have been more patient and removed the mold release and although it took a while for the glue to take they look great. From the pictures I thought the m-16 inspired rifle looked too big but in the flesh they look fine size wise.
I like the support weapons being integrated with the arms, as far as I'm concerned the fewer part the better. I wish the rifles were like that instead of three parts (left arm, right arm, and rifle)
Anyway I'm going to bathe the minis overnight and clean them tomorrow
Thanks Mad Robot, I'm a fan and I'm looking forward to the next release.
Well, I think this makes me the first to post pictures of completed Danamians. I went ahead and got two of them assembled and painted up last night before I even had the rest of the figures and parts cleaned up. I really like them, they were fun to paint!

Awesome work for theese models. Can you tell what material are the bases please (getting lazy on painting bases latelly)
I am getting jealous, I have to wait for another week for the postman...

Man I can't friggin wait for this roll call.
Does this mean we can look forward to a "rescue team" accessory type of thing again? Heads, shotguns, etc?
This one will not be a Roll Call. Throughout the rest of this year, I will be supplementing some existing parts with new ones so that I can complete the lines. There won't be a ton of extras added to this release but there will be enough new things added so that I can sell them as a complete squad.
A few more select previews coming in the next week or so.
Alright got some comparison pics up so people can see what these guys look like compared to some other minis.
As for the minis themselves, came quick, almost 0 flash, and what little there was took almost no effort to remove. One rifle had snapped in the packaging, but it was a clean break and I think it'll be fine. Other than that the minis have very sharp details, go together as easily as separate weapons and arms can, and look good. Easily the best kit he's put out so far. My main regrets were not ordering more during the roll call, and not picking up a pack of the rescue team heads. In particular, the weapons and backpacks look excellent, and like Mad Robot said, the vest looks much better in person. The only regular torso I got came with the "blooper" grenade launcher, and it looks pretty good as well. I think the vests are cooler, but you really can't go wrong with either, same for the heads and rifles.
Really sharp job, I will probably order another 20~25 of these guys to have as a platoon. Looking forward to washing them up and getting some paint on them. I have a feeling these minis will really pop with a good paintjob.
If I had to rate them, I'd say a solid 9/10. The kit isn't perfect, as there was the breakage of a part, and some of the weapons can be fiddly to glue, but overall the kits are excellent, and if you're even remotely interested in the kit I'd say go for a squad. They're cool minis and have a good amount of character. I'm not sure if these guys are "accurate" enough to also stand in as Vietnam minis, but I definitely could see it working. The M16's obviously have a couple of small differences from the real rifle, but at tabletop distance you would probably never notice.
mad robot wrote: Mention the rifle on your next order, I'll thrown in replacements.
Can't argue with service like that.
Nope.
Mad Robot is quickly becoming of my favorite companies. Between him, Vic, and Dreamforge, pretty much all my IG needs are covered and I've got some sweet models thanks to it. His stuff blends well with vic's so I've been going kind of crazy trading parts around (for example, that "Arcadian" with the meltagun is actually using a Mad Robot Colonial Defence head.)
If the Colonial Defense guys are as good as the Danamians are, we'll be in for some sweet minis.
You're gonna sell a hellava lot of the CDF! Please consider making for at least two female CDF troopers (a smart-gunner torso and a regular trooper). Adding those will make the CDF line truly amazing.
Oooooooo smart gun teams as my auto cannons or heavy bolters. Or even combine the backend with melta or plasma front end. Or even make smart gun plasma and smart melta guns. And again female torsos and heads and armor would be great. I don't want to mix victoria lambs females with mad robots cdf. they just don't have the same look as the cdf armors and weapons. I will if I need too.... But hopefully Steve will finally give in to us.
@Barzam: lol, honestly, I didn't have it ready to go. Although there was a certain amount of satisfaction when I posted it
@BrotherKarr: I agree that a few female CDF bits are a good idea, but there is no time presently. The project coming after the new CDF parts is already half done and we start work on a new regiment in June.
I'm glad you're on board for some female parts. Outside of Victoria minis and a "few" here and there, most female kits have giant boobs and/or absurd outfits that really make no sense and don't fit well with most armies. Even if you can't get to them in the near future, it's still nice to know it's on your radar.
We were doing a routine sweep of the Nostromo cluster when we got the call. There was a degraded signal coming from the mining facility at Zeti Reticuli II.
"Alright troopers, listen up! Orders are as follows...make planetfall and proceed to mining station five-four-niner, “Sergeant Apollo Matthews walked slowly, confidently, along the line of Colonial Defense troopers. "Those civies are playing hide and seek and we're here to find them." He stopped at the end of the line, executed a perfect 180 degree heal turn, and stalked down the opposite direction.
"Hey Sarge, any expected resistance on this op?"
"You know the drill Coleman," the wily veteran sergeant scanned the entire squad as he walked, "Intelligence is on a need to know basis and you..don't...need...to know." There were assorted snorts and giggles, the kind of nervous energy a trooper expels before going into a potentially hot LZ. Matthews stopped at the opposite end of the ready line and turned yet again to face the soldiers. "That's it, let's move out. File into that lander and I want a clean dispersal this time...fan into an alpha two formation once we hit that dirt."
Something was troubling me as we flew over the colony. The place was a wreck but it obviously this was no industrial accident. The place was a ghost town. It was like someone or something just carried off every man, woman, and child at the facility. I had seen some horrible things on the frontier, but this whole scenario was somehow much more unnerving. I couldn’t help feeling watched. What the hell happened here?”
Is there any chance you will ever be releasing a super-ornate regiment? I'm thinking something along the lines of Space Marine Honour Guard or the new IG stormtroopers with the trim along their armour plates and lots of small little details like that. Would make a nice change from the clean and simplistic (yet awesome ) look that the rest of your troops have!

There is a "royal" regiment concept we have in development but it will more than likely be next year some time before it happens.
So these close combat specialist guys... Any chance we could DIG up some info on them? I hate to be a NOB and ask stupid questions but any info would be nice.
Or are these Gruff characters You took a liking to and thought their Rough personalities Needed to be better represented modelwise?

It would help if I had arranged the letters in the second sentence correctly. Was trying to spell Ogryn but instead spelled Ogyrn
As for the first one, if you didn't pick up on that, it's pretty clear we're not getting Digganobs then

Aw. Wait, does that mean you were considering Zulu and Maori Imperial Guards? C'mon, we need a few more hints. Native American Imperial Guard? Aztec IG?

Hi Steve your nam guys look cool, glad the roll call went well.Have you had any more time to work on the not steel legion guys or come up with any more ideas for how you will deal with the hose for the gas mask ?
rhodry wrote: Hi Steve your nam guys look cool, glad the roll call went well.Have you had any more time to work on the not steel legion guys or come up with any more ideas for how you will deal with the hose for the gas mask ?
I'm considering a Roll Call for them, on the design end I was thinking of doing separate masks with attached hoses. The user would have to put them in some warm water to bend them into a final position, depending on how you pose them.
Hey Steve, got my Da Namians today, holy feth they are outstanding, I thought the Kurgans were a good kit but your second Roll Call offering has them beat hands down!
You should be rightly proud of them, I was really pleased with the level of detail on the 2 torso types, the bare heads, even the boots, just brilliant work.
The CDF stuff looks really exciting, can't wait to see what's gonna get added to this range, but is there any word though on your Bulldog FN FAL posted a few pages back?
Tribal Close Combat specialists sounds interesting, your own take on the Kanak Skull Takers?

Similar in scope but this will be a completely original concept, very exciting!
The Bulldog Rifles will release alongside the CDF upgrades in a few weeks. Thanks for the kind words

A page or two ago, the female smart gunner from Aliens was mentioned.. and also discussed as far as being a fair way down the road. Might I suggest doing a themed female personality set? Off the top of my head, Isabelle the female sniper from Predators, Velasquez from Aliens, Dizzy Flores from Starship Troopers, Mai Linh from Live Free or Die Hard, and maybe Ripley, Samantha Carter, or maybe Alice from Resident Evil..
If Flores' outfit is based on the training scene (her in a tank top and utility pants) the unit would look pretty cohesive... and could be really neat.
Either way.. again.. well done females that aren't ridiculous looking are scarce and would be welcome by many I'm sure.

As a side note.. any chance of a belt fed vehicle mountable version of that grenade launcher you currently sell? I have a vehicle that needs such a thing badly..
There is no way female troops will happen this year, if they happen at all.
Let's get Dakka involved then, if you can come up with an interesting and original concept, I will take it and see if I can make something of it. I will not do "female versions of this or that", I want to make them their own regiment.
Ah, that's cool.. I was kinda hoping to see basically female personalities is all.. Wasn't trying to spam :/
Cool.. I'm building some 1/48 Land Rovers for use as Taurus FAVs.. I'll just build everything but the cupola on the one that is supposed to have a mk19.
Well, the Valhallan egiment in the Commissar Cain novels is half female, so female great coats like the "not russians" yo have would mean I could do the co-ed unit for making a commissar cain mini conversion as cain actually prefers a las pistol for accuracy, But his valhallans are coed, and a baldric looking fellow in valhallan(russian) style as well,

For the most part the sizes are pretty much spot on. A few of the heads are a tad narrow, but you can't really even tell once the whole figure is assembled.
Beautiful stuff as always Steve! I'm loving the civilian girl is she available seperately? would make a good objective when playing against my mates DE! :-)

Thanks Damo! Indeed, the girl is available separately
will the custom squad builder be updated to include backpacks, equipment packs, and shoulder pads? also, CDF Heads 2 is missing from the custom squad builder.
I really want to get a few CDF guys. I need to wait a bit though. Get through my backlog a bit, first.
These look dead sexy.. I'm happy they're released but sadly the DaNamian RC and another couple of kickstarters all hit at the same time and ate up my gaming budget for quite a while. Can't wait until I can actually afford to add some of these bad boys. Also eagerly awaiting the "big news" ... haven't seen hints anywhere (that I noticed) so I am completely stumped at what it could be.
Exciting.. I'm kinda expecting Sloth from Goonies or the giant from 300 for the head A Stallone head (especially puffy like he was in the most recent Rambo) would look interesting too though.
I'm hoping there are a few variations on the body's "trunk" to keep the individuality up.
Finally got a chance to build and paint some Colonial Defense Force Troopers as Colonial Marines from Aliens. I did some surgery on the pulse rifle and flamethrower to look more like the movie. I also made the figures taller by adding onto their necks and putting plasti-card between the legs and torso. Added small wire and painted it up to make the grenades on the harness which was tedious. Put them on some scratch built bases and they're ready to fight their way off a derelict ship or a doomed colony. I love the detail and character of these figures and the shipping was super fast. I'm gonna start the smart gunner now, more rifle men and maybe a dude with a shotgun!
Does the free shipping for orders over $100 apply to overseas orders as well as US ones?
And does the Quantity discount apply across SKUs? Or...? I'm trying to work out the best way to make a command squad using the rescue heads and containing additional special weapons beyond the single one...
Awesome to hear on the shipping!
With the discount, I mean if I were to buy three colonial marine squads, and one "custom" squad - would they all work together with the Qty discount?
Ahhh... yeah I'll do that for you. Be sure to remind me in the order comments. Probably just have to give you a refund or I can throw $5 of bits in for free. Whatever you like.
A heads up, I am out of town this weekend so any orders won't get worked on until Monday. It means a possible 3-4 day delay before shipping happens, depending on how busy the weekend is.

If you did make some Kasrkin legs with angled kneed pads (and armor like XX's ones) I would seriously buy at least 30, maybe even 60 sets!

That looks really cool, but the forearm muscle doesn't really twist like that unless the hand is goosenecked like a bodybuilder does when posing. In that specific pose the forearm muscles would still be pretty straight. Most people probably wouldn't notice or care but for the sake of being thorough I feel the need to point it out.
I also would love to see some sort of CC options.. particularly some form of small and large shields. I wouldn't care if I had to buy them separately, in fact, making the hands separate so we can magnetize if we want could be really cool.
Sorry for the unsolicited critique again.. I'm happy you're doing what you do.
Mike, these aren't humans. These are human descendants that have evolved on a planet that was long undiscovered. It is a planet of high gravity that caused these beings to mutate over a number of generations, resulting in a musculature that only retains a superficial similarity to a standard human. They have also grown much larger, taller; resulting in an average height of around 9 feet.
So, yes, they aren't going to look exactly like a human would.

I like how this equates to a stocky build with increased muscle mass rather than GeeDubs pot bellied.beer gutted attempts. Reminds me of the original Ogryns that Bob Olley sculpted.
Just need some oversized grav chutes so they can be Elysian drop compatible....
I agree with M Law. I demand anatomical perfection from my 28mm plastic space mutants. I demand no less than scientifically rigorous studies on the effects of spening tens of thousands of years on high gravity planets. It's expensive and unreasonable, but it's what M Law and I expect.
Steve, I understand what you're saying.. as an artist that's driving me nuts though. I'll probably just end up greenstuffing over it I guess. What about the idea of making the hands changeable though?

I think handwaving anatomical issues away as "they are space Ogres...so they look like burly humans with specifically incorrect forearm anatomy" is a bit lazy. It's obviously a lack of knowledge on the part of the sculptor and not a design choice.
They look solid though otherwise. Not for me, I like a little more brutish goofiness if I was to go with Ogryns.
Will be ordering some greatcoat arms and more guns soon though.

Please don't make assumptions about the design process. It is what it is, sorry it doesn't suit you
As someone who actually does design.. the "choice" on the forearm is likely from re-posing the model in Zbrush (transpose tool).. which results in that kind of distortion. It became apparent a while back that you were working from master files and just modifying them to fit what you're doing, which makes sense. It doesn't make sense to just make excuses for it though when it creates obvious visual flaws. I haven't said anything about the pinches on the arms for regular infantry model because of the methods used but it's the same thing.
I have to ask.. are you modeling this stuff.. or commissioning it, or using someone's 3d models without their consent? It's kinda obvious it's not the first choice... so..

Just a bit of advice before I add you to my "ignore" list.
Maybe you should be more respectful of others and their efforts ie: don't trash someone and/or their product in their own thread just because you "think" you can do better.
Such arrogance.

Wow, lots of vitriol there...I wish you the best and I hope you get the help you need
I like the sculpts, they have a very heavy weight to them which says ogres to me, not human. I'm sure once they are shown towering over the standard infantry it'll be even more apparent.
Human anatomy is funny, every individual is unique and sometimes people have muscles that just don't fit the expected mold, particularly if drugs or genetic mutations/modifications are involved. Ever hear of Greg Valentino? There's not much I'd consider "normal" about his muscles structure as it's fueled by insane amounts of 'roids, but point and case is he's real (and really freaky).
The ogre is holding his knife in a reverse grip/overhand position with his arm bent at the elbow, I'm hardly ripped by anyone's standards and when I hold something like that it causes my forearm muscles to noticeably knot up, so it's not too far off.
Steve has his own style which I highly enjoy, it may not be for everyone but one thing is for certain it beats any of the "amazing" muscle anatomy displayed on GW's Ogres or Catachans. Given that those are a base line for most players I'm not seeing much of a reason for complaining about Steve's stuff.

Is there any way I can get an apology for being chastised? I mean, now that the guy I essentially called a jerk is acting like a jerk?
You can discuss the design and disagree on that without resorting to name-calling! It will be much more productive that way, for all involved... thanks.
I only have two wishes for these particular dudes.
1)rifles with chainsaw bayonets
2)that there be an alternate arm set with arm guards similar to the ones on their legs.
Now, if you wanted to make some fully armored not-COGS later.... I certainly wouldn't be one to complain.
I'm surprised that we haven't had an update here (and that nobody else has posted these). Mad Robot apparently has received the first prints of their Jovian Hammers.
Looks like Gung-Ho, Sgt. Savage, and Marcus Fenix. I like 'em. Can't wait to see the armored up (not-COGS) versions.
Definitely interested in seeing at least concepts for armoured variants. I do like the styling of the lower leg and knees so something to match say the CDF type torso and shoulders...?

I like these a lot! The different headgear on them gives me a nice nostalgic feel for the Rogue Trader Ogryn models. While the guns are smaller than the GW ogryn models, they appear to be as long as a standard infantry model is tall, which would mean they are essentially using a 50 caliber machine gun as an infantry weapon. That's hardly underwhelming.
Not sure if you know this Steve but I love you! :-) you big bearded model man god you! I will certainly be making an order again in a few weeks as a birthday gift for myself! these have totally pushed me over the edge again!
I like the shoulder pads you made but they are not close enough to Cadian pads. Could you do a run of roman (eagle) pads or just plain ones for IG sized infantry?

Good to see a decent amount of Paulson's Mech weapons are available again to.
Thanks for the support! Yes, Paulson's stuff is too good to not be available somewhere so we sell some of it while he continues to work on Mecha Front.

Yes! I will even name them after you...how does Javin pattern shoulder pads sound?
The idea of shoulder pads with eagles on them sounded kinda rad, but I think bears would look equally cool, or even some kind of wolf or even some kinda basic lorica segmentata stylized ones, multiple sheets all held together by rivets or something
Automatically Appended Next Post: OR!!! Just realized one I think would even be more bad to the bone: samurai style shoulder pad things, make them basic so you could use them for other things, leg reinforcements, things like that
Another concept to push out there would be a "cyber-soldier" type. Either heavily cybered (think old Tech Gangers from Confrontation) or full Body Prosthetic like the Tech Thralls from that company across the pond. Just the bits would probably sell like hotcakes.
If for any reasons someone was tempted to add the new GW ogryn head with gasmask on them, do you think they would match up in terms of size? I'm thinking these would make some awesome looking Elysian drop ogryns with a couple of bits of shoulder armour added.
Keep up the good work, recently recieved my last order from you to help make my savlar chem dogs, probably the best quality resin bits I've used before.

I can't say about the Ogryn head as I don't have any. They might be too big.
Thanks for the kind words and your continued support!
Yes, by all means. Not sure when, but soon. There are plans for 2 new regiments this year and there may be a few bits mixed in there as well. Next year will see a host of new parts released.
Nice looking CCWs Mad Robot, I've always really liked your 'laserpistol' design and the sabre looks great, any chance of doing some kind of power maul weapon? I think they'd come in quite useful to a few folk out there!
Yes, mauls will be included in the 3rd wave. 2nd wave will be powered sword, powered axe, and slug pistols.
All of these will come 5 to a set. CCW will have 3 right-handed and 2 left handed versions. All the sidearms will have 2 right-handed and 3 left-handed versions. This will allow you to combine them for different combos without any odd ball parts being unusable.
So far, wave 3 will have your powered mauls and plasma pistols. I still need to decide on the 3rd choice.

This is great news then!
BTW the shoulder pad with the unit identifier is a nice touch, especially for a retro guard player such as me!
I'd also love a studded shoulder pad too (could also suit renegade/cultists types) or a padded pad (??) like the FW Elysians I mean!
