Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2014/06/28 00:11:25

Post by: -iPaint-

I'm going to be using my airbrush going forward to prime/basecoat Bones. Since the paint is atomized, it sticks really well to the model and only wears off if I really, really make an effort to remove it.

I've heard everything from "no primer necessary!" to "no primer will work!" to everything between...

I wish Reaper would just 'officially' say what is what here, in terms of a primer to use.

Unless...they have?

Though I haven't looked into it since Bones I, IIRC they had a fair bit of information up on their Forums from various people, including some stickied information on how to prime and treat bones from people who'd experimented with a few different techniques - not Officially official stuff, but endorsed by them. So yeah, try the reaper forums, they'd be the best place to answer questions like that. Just remember to wash your minis first, to clean off the release agent.

Edit: see if your answer is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/48669-bones-the-first-coat-is-the-difference/

Reaper says don't use a primer, (one of the big selling points of Bones) and use undiluted (Reaper) acrylic paint as your first coat (too much water and it will just bead up)

I keep reading that as "Sir Foreskin." It has made this thread a little creepier, and a little funnier.

Bwahaha, that... does make it kind of creepy. How did he get such a name... was it an earned appellation, did the other knights give it... wait that's even creepier, or was it someone else... gah.

Nightmares.

I'll have to go dig up his regular name and switch so I can sleep again. Garrik the bold or something maybe.

Yeah, so apply a layer of paint before painting... may as well just prime them

I don't understand. For me, priming requires a different set up and many hours of drying time. Painting one layer of foundation allows me to set up for painting and segue directly into painting minutes after the first layer, which means I actually ever paint a mini at all ever in this lifetime this year at all.

I've painted more Bones minis in one weekend teaching my nephews how to paint minis than I had painted in the entire previous decade (possibly excluding a fleet of drybrushed BFG escorts, depending on when). I have a few boxes full of primed minis that I somehow lost time/interest/inspiration to complete between administering the primer and setting up to paint them once dry. Even the ones I brushed primer on.

So, please, if you know of a system for priming that is easy and quick to do on a kitchen table set up for painting that evening, please let me know what it is.

I've never had this problem. Which brand of paint did you use? Did you dilute it with anything? Water and Bones are like cobra and mongoose.

Maybe they read their Kickstarter contract and had ship all the defectives to Australian backers?

What I'm planning on doing is using Vallejo's Surface Primer + airbrush. I've had very satisfactory results with that combination on my Flames of War models. The primer is very good at drying smooth, comes in a variety of colors (I use it as the base coat for my German armor, actually), and it levels itself nicely where not even details on the tiny infantry are obscured. By the time I finish cleaning the airbrush, the models at the front of the batch are mostly dry, if not completely. The only real exception I've found are areas where I just put too much primer on, and mentally I'm more ok with paying the stupid tax of a few more minutes there than I am twiddling my thumbs with traditional spray primer. Being as the propellant is just air instead of canned aerosol gases, it should also sidestep the "sprays melt Bones" issue (or at least the issue will be because the primer melts Bones).

Now, the obvious problem is this is not exactly a cheap solution for JUST primering Bones if you don't already have an airbrush + compressor. The next is that while the setup is fairly simple and portable, a bit more care needs to be taken with the kitchen table and you can descend into the "just one more thing" set of problems where fixing one solution (e.g. - a box to catch the extra spray so it doesn't go on the table) leads to another problem (it's now hard to see in the box).

On the other hand, because primering is relatively simple, you can probably get most of it done with just a box (though you will need light if you want to try your hand at actual painting). Also since it's just primer and basic stuff, you don't need to drop tons of money on a brush; a decent cheap starter brush will do fine. The compressor is a bit more of an iffy thing on going "cheap" with, but you needn't shell out huge monies there either. Still, as I said it is far from the cheapest option, even compared to the prices GW wants for their paints it's still somewhat dollar-heavy.

All of that said, when I finally decided to do it I ended up with a setup that lets me work indoors and avoid the issues of weather and humidity fairly nicely. It's also giving me a new dimension to the hobby to explore, which is a fun thing in itself for me even though the inevitable mistakes are a bit frustrating at the time. Just being able to get things going when the mood strikes, even when that mood is at 10PM, has been a big help to getting me towards actually finishing models.

I have the tackiness problem with various Bones mini - with no apparent pattern, both with primer and just straight paint. Either way, a little bit of matte spray (or brush-on) and the mini is fine and the tackiness goes away.

We know this was an unscheduled update, but we were too excited about the paint job on this not to share! And as a reminder - there will not be an update this Friday, July 4, as we have previously discussed. If you want, you can think of this update as that one.

This Dragons Don't Share was a collaborative paint job by Michael Proctor, Rhonda Bender, Derek Schubert, Anne Foerster, and Shannon Stiltz.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - It was Citadel Foundation paint (the older version of "base"). Foundation comes in a pot. If I'd sprayed it, it would have been through an airbrush anyway.

I'm baffled then Azazelx,

(Unless you're having really hot weather in Australia at the moment and the paint layer is trapping plasticiser that is being driven off by the temperature... probably not likely but the only thing vaguely plausible I can come up with)

I'm going to try savagerobby's idea. Something else that I have found that works is to thin down liquid green stuff to a thin, milky consistency, and "prime" troublesome figures with it.

I had the same problem Azazelx. More than once. Some of my Bones minis painted up just fine, others became tacky (gummy is the word I like) when I put primer on them, and stayed that way. The tree guy I left like that, and he was still gummy weeks later. Depending on the relative humidity at the time, I use either wal-mart brand generic spray paint, or Rustoleum primer, (the ONLY brand I've found that can still function in Southern Illinois humidity).

I'd be anxious for Reaper to address this problem in some fashion.

Lies! Unless being maybe 40 minutes south makes a difference   I use krylon of various types and colors and consider it the best spraypaint I've used. I used rustoleum oncebut iI diidnt like it. I've had bad luck with Walmart color place too.

Primed several things just the other day with proper success, give it a try sometime, I especially like the clear acrylic topcoat they do.

Sounds like I better stick to an airbrush for bones though huh.

Huh. That's what I use. I'm stumped. Or maybe just lucky.

The only other explanation I can think of is if you forgot to sacrifice a quickening she-goat to Testoroth at the last equinox, but that's too much of a rookie mistake for you.

Was the brush created through the agonizing death of a rare Siberian weasel or was it defective?

Vallejo, eh? Brush-on colored primers? I thought all the dakka threads about vallejo primers were about them rubbing or peeling off. Did they finally get a mix that works? And doesn't take 24 hours to dry? I'll give it a shot.

They have, in that link that was provided.

I've had luck slapping on Apple Barrel black craft paint. The stuff's watery, so sorta acted like a wash. A good thing.

The thread mentions Folk Art Tile Medium. Found out it's only $2 on Amazon.

What was the consensus on the transparent figures? I've tried Pledge Future Floor Wax and it sorta works. Ran into those ugly mold lines when I tried it as a wash.

Shipping Update

We have 5 Containers on the water right now, heading to the USA. We're looking at about 10 days across the Pacific, and then we have a wildly variable amount of time through Customs.

However, we have learned that these 5 containers are not the last shipment - there's still other product that isn't finished yet, and we do not have the ETA on when these last items ship. We promise to keep you all updated. Our next scheduled update is November 7th, but if we receive vital news before then, we will be sure to post it!
Making Sure your Address is Up to Date

It is vital that your addresses be as correct as they can be in our Pledge Manager - http://ks.reapermini.com

We cannot stress this fact enough. It is possible that incorrect addresses in our Pledge Manager could lead to total protonic inversion, the destruction of the multiverse as we know it. Well, Ok, we can stress it too much, that's not actually going to happen. But what could happen, if your address is incorrect, is that your rewards would be delayed even more, seized by customs, returned as undeliverable, and require additional postage to ship a second time - the cost of which will be paid by you, the recipient.

If you have any reason to believe that your shipping address may not be accurate, please log in to the Pledge Manager and go to Account Details, and adjust this address.

If your shipping address is incorrect and we must reship the package, you will be required to pay shipping costs for the second shipment. We will absorb the costs for OUR errors, but this is an entirely avoidable error, and we rely upon you to provide us with accurate information.
If you Need to Contact us

If there is anything wrong with your pledge, and you need to contact us, please be aware that we have Two different possible Kickstarter Pledge Managers now - the Bones II Pledge and the CAV pledges. When you contact us, please be sure to tell us which project this is in regards to, and if you can, include your order number, along with the e-mail address associated with your Kickstarter account. You can contact us at help@reapermini.com any time, but we do need that information to be able to assist you.
Boxes!

So, up until now, our Updates have featured painted and unpainted Bones Models. But we know what you all really want to see! BOXES!

Without further Ado, here's a preview of what the Boxes your Core Force and Expansion Rewards will be delivered to you in!

The Core Set and the Expansions

The Expansion Sets

Art Update

Of course, last Update, we shared with you our corrections for Verocithrax, the Chaos Dragon, but we didn't continue The Adventures of Sir Forscale! To make up for that, today we bring you a double-length Adventure, the next Chapter of our Saga: Sir Forscale and the Scales of Justice!

We begin as Sir Forscale leaves the clutches of the Dragon Nathavarr and the Greedy Adventurers battling over the treasure hoard. Determined to find the exit to this strange land once and for all, he boldly ignores the No Trespassing signs and leaps over a fence, finding a pack of watch...dragons.

Quickly he runs inside the strange and very LARGE house, where the odd six armed Dracolisk Doorman greets him.

Leaving the Dracolisk, he comes upon a Chimera. It's not really a dragon, but one of the heads is, so it counts, ok? Anyway, the Chimera also thinks that Sir Forscale is bringing dinner, but it hasn't made up its minds about what's on the menu!

Feigning a need to visit the little squire's room, Sir Forscale takes his leave. In the hallway, he runs into a large Tortoise Dragon, unconcerned with food. This dragon seems to have lost something, too, and he's more than happy to help our good Knight find the WC.

Before he can sneak out the back door, though,He finds a friendly Silver Dragon, from the Expansion Packs! Perhaps a little too friendly!

He struggles himself free from the tight grip of the Silver Dragon, and discovers that Blightfang, the Forest Dragon next door, is neither as foolish nor as kind.

Fast-talking his way out, Sir Forscale rushes to the next room, only to discover that now that they all think they're being fed, there's no escaping the subject of Dinner.

Providing him a final opportunity to escape, The Dragons of the neighborhood insist on commemorating this Block Party Barbecue with a Family Photo - including Uncle Verocithrax!

to be continued!
Convention Update!

We're going to have a booth and be running a Paint and Take Event at WaCon, in Waco, Texas October 24-26th.

We're also Hosting an Artist Conference at Reaper HQ in Denton, TX October 25-26th. It's a great way to meet your favorite Reaper Artists, and see these previewed models in person!

More news to come - thank you all so much for your patience!

~Reaper

Yep. I was kind of skeptical too. At least they're fixing it, though they kind of decided to do it and then told us, no discussion, but at least they've determined a work around to let them move forward.

Seems like any dragon that started life as a metal mold would likely be small due to expense but it could also be some misrepresentation has occurred.

Been a while, but supposedly shipping may begin in 11-35 days.

#107
First January 2015 Update!
Posted by Reaper Miniatures
First of all, Happy New Year to everyone!
Container Update!
In our last Update on December 19th, we announced that our final Containers from China would be arriving in the US on January 11th. We have good news! Up-to-the-hour ship tracking and schedule software confirms that the Container Ship will be arriving in dock today - well ahead of the original schedule!
As a quick "behind the curtain" peek - our original schedule given to us the day the ship was loaded said January 12th, and by the time we posted the Update, this had been revised to January 11th. Late last week, the schedule was revised to say January 10th, and yesterday midday, we were informed that it was moving up again to today. So this has been a very dynamic situation, and this is one reason why giving precise timelines is so difficult!
What does this mean for the Backers?
When do we begin shipping Wave 1, and when will be start shipping Wave 2? Or 3? Etc.
We still have to get the last two Containers (both are on the same ship) from port in California to Dallas - this takes 3-5 days. Then the Customs facility in Dallas must process and clear these Containers, a process which has in the past taken as few as 6 days, or as long as 28 days.
Then, once they are in hand, it will take 2-3 days to sort and organize the 217 different Part Numbers that are a part of this shipment. Given all of that uncertainty, we're looking at having them in hand in a time range as short as 11 days, and as long as 35 days. Which means that right now, we cannot be certain of when we will be able to start Fulfillment. We are however, confident that Fulfillmentwill begin as soon as possible!
Managing your Address
Updates will be posted when we are 24-72 hours from beginning Wave One fulfillment, to give everyone one last warning to update their shipping addresses.
If you do need to change your shipping address, please log in to your Pledge Manager at ks.reapermini.com and you can change it at any time. You do not need to e-mail or message us to change your address. In fact, it is easier for you to change your address than it is for us to change it for you.
If your address is incorrect in our system, and it becomes necessary for us to ship a second package to you, you will be responsible for any additional shipping fees. By contrast, if your address is correct and we must reship the package (basically if it is our error) we will pay postage.
If you are changing the Country, however, you will need to contact us at help@reapermini.com as the system does not allow the Country to be changed without approval.
We are now fielding 50-80 questions a week asking when we are going to begin shipping, and it is our hope that this information helps to answer that question a little better. We are doing everything we can to get organized here so that we can begin fulfillment as soon as possible after the final two containers arrive, including dry runs of the shipping process to test efficiency, system speed, and find improvements before we begin.
It is our intent to make up for these shipping delays by accelerating our shipping timetables and shortening the time it takes to process each Wave.
Who do I contact with my questions?
Well, we're still checking the Comments Tab regularly, although we will not be able to have anybody watching the comments once we begin Fulfillment because anybody who might be watching Comments will instead be helping to ship your rewards to you. So between now and then, you can leave a comment on the Comment Tab, or send us a message directly via the Kickstarter Messaging system, or you can send an e-mail to help@reapermini.com
If you send an e-mail or a Message, please be sure to specify which project you are asking about, and include as much information s you can to help us locate your records - your name, e-mail address, Invoice Number (this will be found on your Pledge Manager) and a description of what we can help you with.
Convention Appearance - PAX South
We will be conducting a Paint and Take event and having a full sales booth at PAX South, January 23-26th in San Antonio, Texas. If you are planning to be there, we would love to meet you and have you join us in the painting of a free miniature! We will be in space D103, ready to have some fun!
We may have some of the Bones II reward models on display but will not have any for sale at the event, nor will be able to pack rewards onto the truck, so it will not be possible to pick up your rewards there.
Update Schedule Change
in our last Update, we mentioned that we would be posting the 2nd January 2015 Update on January 23rd. Because of the PAX event, we cannot guarantee that anybody will have access to this site to post an Update, so we are moving that Update to January 30th. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Of course, if timelines continue to move quickly, we may post updates about shipping and fulfillment times before then, and we promise to interrupt the regular schedule if this happens.
Adventures of Sir Forscale
Sir Forscale has had many grand adventures - traveling through underground caverns, dungeons, been to Heaven and hell, and even found a new world in need of Justice. His adventures are at an end for now - Thank you all for indulging us in a little silly fun while we filled the long months of "no news to report", and we look forward to seeing your Adventures of Sir Forscale when your rewards are in hand!
Thank You,
~Reaper

Well, you *kind of* did, I think that's the next biggest model after the Worldbreaker. I'm really hoping I enjoy the double expansion 3 I ordered. I had put down for like 2 or 3x dragons don't share I think, and then changed my mind to get 2x expansion 3 and a couple of the big single dudes. I wanted the ruins in triplicate and figured I could sell off the dragons and the extra adventurers were just that, extra. But the scifi set started to look pretty nice too.

I went in for a few things, but I am really looking forward to the retail release of the shooting IMEF Marines and the ...uh...tentacled aliens...I want to call them Basilians but I know that's not right.

But I'm even more excited for the CAV Bones release.

Bathalians or whatever? Yeah, those are cool. I also kind of like the four-armed tentacle-faced marauding aliens. Supposedly you get like 6 of them in the bag instead of the show 3. Kulathi or something. Still trying to decide wtf I'm gonna do with my mini-horde of little grey men though, two sets of expansion 3 is gonna leave me with quite a few of them =/

When the CAV stuff hits shelves I may have to get some of those too. I wasn't interested in backing as I would only want a couple... but I still kind of want to check out those two or three eventually.

I am pretty much in the same boat. I want to get a few tanks and planes for DZC and some mechs for playing with or to convert to 28mm enforcement drones. I didn't pledge for the sci if add ons because I didn't want the greys or the terrain.

I think I'll get a Sir ForScale to paint up in anticipation. Might actually have my Bones box of goodies in hand by the time I'm done with the knight!

At least I'm in the first wave of shipping!

Lord knows I don't have enough stuff to paint at the moment. I've noticed the unpainted hordes have started to encroach on my wife's side of our worktable. Thankfully she hasn't really noticed. She might notice when some of these new giant figures show up though...

Also, why pay retail when I can get ripped off by scalpers on EBay?

The update-

#109
The Containers Are Here! Fulfillment is About to Begin!
Posted by Reaper Miniatures
We have received the last containers, and now have all product on hand to begin fulfillment!

Some of the Pallets of Boxes being sorted.
We will be working over the next few days to get everything that just arrived (and everything that has been here) sorted and organized into their proper place to make fulfillment easier. During the next few days, we will also start to work out the bugs and shake out the kinks in our fulfillment process.
This means that we're going to start shipping some Wave One orders over the next few days, training our people and breaking in the software.
Wave One shipping to begin Monday, February 9th.
As stated above, some orders will be shipped sooner, these are the lucky ones whose orders helped us test our logistics and make the system bulletproof.
PLEASE be sure your address is correct before Thursday, February 5, so that we can be confident in shipping any orders that we need to in order to perfect our process.
What about Wave 2? Wave 3? Etc?
We'll be progressing on to each Wave with only a small gap of a few hours to half a day between. This gap is so we can resupply any parts that were sent out, and refill supplies (tape boxes, labels, paper) that ran low. So each successive wave will, for the most part, appear generally seamless from the outside. That is, it will be difficult to spot when Wave 1 ends and Wave 2 begins.
We will not be making daily announcements of progress, or announcing via update when Each Wave begins, so we ask that Waves 2-10 please get their addresses in order as well.
Questions?
If you have any questions, contact us at help@reapermini.com and we'll do everything we can to help you out. You will need to provide us your Order Number, your e-mail address, and tell us that you are asking about Bones II.
Note: we cannot tell you when your package will ship.
Pick Up On Site:
A little less than 60 of our backers have asked to be able to pick theirs up on site. We will be pulling your orders in with your wave, and setting them aside. Bryan will be e-mailing you to notify you when you can come get your package.
We will NOT be doing our Originally Scheduled Update on Friday, February 6th.
Thank you all so much for your patience! We're honored to have been able to work with all of you on this, and we look forward to hearing of your adventures, and seeing your wonderful paint jobs and builds!

I'm going to be fascinated to see if use overseas backers with early wave shipping really get our stuff sent out alongside the US backers

I know that's the plan but I have a horrible feeling stuff will start to go wrong, and then they won't want to delay the local stuff they can ship so things will start slipping

anyway I want my Kracken...... Dread Cthulhu needs his pet as he's getting lonely

It'd certainly be nice.

I've got a wave 2 shipment (add ons tier) and only have around 20 odd pieces coming to me.

Huh, at a glance, it's actually this;

Dungeon Decor
Dungeon Decor 2
Mister Bones
Troll Slayer Sophie

As I didn't really want/need eighteen thousand random fantasy figures, but for $25 or so, a couple of exclusives and some scenery/terrain to go with my Dwarven Forge dungeon and caverns pieces seemed like a cost effective way to do things.

Fulfilment Tracking
Posted by Reaper Miniatures
Training is complete and we have Begun Wave One Fulfillment!
For those interested in keeping up on our fulfillment progress, we've made a Website!
http://forum.reapermini.com/bones2/
This link will take you to a Tracker that will tell you how many orders there still are to go, how many have been Shipped so far today, what City was the last City we applied Postage or a UPS Waybill to, and What Wave that order was a part of.
Using this tool, you can easily see which Wave we are working on for that day, and if you're lucky, might even see your specific city roll past!
Over the weekend, we pulled the Orders marked Hold For Pickup, so those individuals should have received e-amils that they can come get their boxes. If you have not, e-mail bryan@reapermini.com, he keeps the list of which orders are ready to be picked up.

540 at the time of posting... if they keep up this pace, they'll get a wave out every 4 days, but who knows.. they may step it up too. I guess the day isn't over either yet. If they break 667 they'll have them out in 3 days.

Yep! Reaper will send you one and UPS *should* send you one. Just read the Reaper forums, and they're thinking Wave 1 will be finished in a few days, fulfilled by order of pledges locked, NOT backer pledge number. Comments in the Reaper forum say *1000* backers did not lock their pledge, so if you're wave 1 and don't hear by the end of the week, shoot them an email to help@reapermini.com. ROW at the end of each wave, so pledge Conan.

Reaperbryan from the forums:
"UPS by default for domestic US orders. It will automatically convert to USPS if:
A) you used a PO Box address
B) you have an APO or FPO address (if you do not know what this means, you do not meet this condition)
C) you are not in the US. "

http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/59445-fulfilment-tracker/

Also:

"It has come to our attention that there was an error in our delivery confirmation database. Turns out that UPS truncated order numbers when sending data to us in some cases. Unfortunately, this means that you may have received an erroneous shipping notification this evening.

First, we apologize for the confusion. We didn't notice the problem until after we sent out the first day's emails, naturally.

If you also received an email today from UPS's QuantumView Notify system, then your package is on its way to you. If you received an email that didn't have what you ordered listed, or any number of oddities, then it's likely that you're still in the queue, waiting to be shipped.

It wasn't our intention to get your hopes up. We appreciate your patience as we get to the bottom of this problem.

EDIT: Stolen from Marinea's avi:

If I'm not mistaken there's roughly 2000 wave one folks, minus anyone that failed to pay, so yeah at this rate roughly 3 days for W1 completion sounds about right. As someone in wave 2 (add ons only), or roughly the top 4,500 shipments, it'd be nice to find out my stuff was in the mail sometime next week. I'm not expecting it in absolute terms, but it's nice to have a countdown/light at the end of the tunnel, even if it's just a vague one.

Only a couple of months late and seem to be plugging through delivery at a reasonable pace? I'll take that over some of the other KS's I've been a part of. Not as good as some (Dwarven Forge, so dreamy!) but much better than others (Wyrd, Palladium, I'm looking at you).

The guy who is coordinating our group buy just got word that ours had shipped!

Comes as something of a surprise as I had pretty much forgotten about this KS. I think that may be one of the charms of KS's for me. They're good fun before it closes when you're watching it to see how it comes out and then if you're not following the updates, by the time it arrives it feels like a surprise.

It'd be nice if there was an additional tracker for how many have shipped to date, rather than needing to track/remember the individual days.

I mean, I suppose the 'wave' counter essentially does that, but it'd also be neat to watch the one number drop while the other grows and eventually the two meet in the middle.

Mine is here. Dear lord, there's a lot. The box set and expansions are surprisingly small but i'm gonna open them and I'm sure i'll be buried in minis.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's a few shots I've taken, mostly of the bigger stuff and expansions, I need to get a few more containers before I spill the guts of the core set!

Spoiler:

Forgot to take one of everything neatly packed in the box but what can you do?

Misc stuff before I opened it.

The core set box seemed pretty small but there was a *lot* in there, 3 bags of goodies!

Expansion 1 adds a bunch of small, medium, and a couple of reasonably substantial gribblies to work with.

I've only opened one of my expansion 2s. The IMEF guys are pretty large, they give space marines a run for their money in terms of the heroicness of their scale. Probably too chunky to look good in the same force as most of my mantic/infinity stuff. Still cool. The little grey spacemans aren't too bad, they're pretty small but they'll paint up really easily and make good lower-tier badguys, or civilians for space games and displays. The shipping container is excellent. The container, large crate, and dumpster next to it are actually in some kind of hard plastic as opposed to bones material. The police box is cool. The UFO is smaller than I expected, I guess it's because I thought the LGMs were bigger than they are. May still steal it for the Martians... just have to reclassify it as a scout or something. The bathalians, scifi door, and computer terminal are all fine and dandy, just didn't wanna de-bag them and lose parts! The kulathi invaders are pretty neat, and you get NINE. The original graphic showed 3 I'll have to see if the second box also has 9. What am I gonna do with 18 of those? I was anticipating 6

This thing is COOL. I'm having a little trouble getting some of the bigger parts of these bones monsters to sit together properly... but I'm sure I can look up a tutorial for sorting out the joins on the bigger pieces.

Holy CRAP. Just as big as I was hoping, Khanjira is a freaking BEAST! I'm actually thinking about building him to stand more upright without the base. He's poised to be bending down to roar at someone with his arms back and all... But I think for a general use it may work out to put him on a different base that's flat, I'd just have to cut the tab off the foot that sits up on the rock. I may leave him stock too, we'll see. He's massive and chunky.

The only single set in this kit that has more mass than Khanjira is the Dragons don't share diorama. The dragon itself is smaller than Khanjira by a bit but the scenery makes up the bulk. Sprinkle in some greedy adventurers to taste I was considering getting 3x of these instead of the scifi sets I got, could have had a collapsed castle rather than just a collapsed tower, but yeah I dunno I think my current distribution is superior. Looking forward to the dragon, and the scenery should be fun to play with on the airbrush.

For my Wave 1, the UPS confirmation email came a two days after the Reaper "on its way" email. If you look at the script for the Reaper online tracker, it pulls numbers from some internal Reaper database which, I'm guessing, doesn't store the UPS tracking numbers or delivery date information?

Thanks for the pics, Grimdork! How should you inventory the pieces in the core set? Last time, someone posted a spreadsheet of which bags had which mini's.

I dunno I'm not really going to count. I got all of the big separate things I ordered, the expansions seem right, the core set has enough models whether they're the are ight ones or not... close enough for me I'm more worried about getting them sorted into boxes for easy picking and painting later on.

International Shipping Process Change, Wave Order Change
Posted by Reaper Miniatures
Wave One Complete!
We had some problems getting international packages to ship correctly on Wednesday, but we got it sorted out, and have completed both Wave 1 and Wave 2 International shipments successfully since then. Some Wave 2 domestic shipments went out before the last 400 or so Wave 1's, because we chose to continue shipping rather than pause and wait for an unknown amount of time while we resolved the issue, and we hope that you can understand our decision.
Well, we've now been informed by the carrier that they will only send trucks to us to pick up the pallets of shipments in one batch. Once we call tonight to request the first carrier pickup, we have to continue with Postal shipments until we're done. This was not how had originally understood it to work, so we are having to change our plan.
The net effect will be that we will now process all remaining International (sometimes called ROW, or Rest Of World) shipments next. That is, now that International Wave 2's are complete, we'll move on to International Wave 3, then International Wave 4, etc. Only after all International orders are shipped can we switch back to Domestic. We will then work Domestic orders in Wave Order, until complete.
We should point out that we are including US orders that go through the Post Office - such as orders with PO Boxes or APO/FPO orders - as "Internationals", so you may occasionally see a US order pop up on our Tracker.
At the speed we have been tracking for the last two days (once the early bugs were worked out) we anticipate completing all International packages in less than 3 days - so sometime on Tuesday we should be switching back to Domestic shipments.
When Will We Ship Wave X?
We do not know for certain what day any specific order or specific wave will ship. We are working as hard as we can to get as many orders complete with a high degree of accuracy as possible. We are confident that we will be done will all Waves by the end of February, but cannot be more specific than that.
What About My Tracking Number?
Some shipments are receiving tracking numbers within minutes of a waybill being applied. Others may not get e-mail notifications for several hours. On top of that, tracking numbers sometimes may not be "activated" by UPS or by USPS for hours or in some reported cases, up to two days. Please do not panic if your tracking number is not recognized by the carrier's system right away, or if you do not receive a shipment notice as fast as someone else. If you notice that it has been over a day since you think your Wave was completed, and you still have received no tracking, you can e-mail us at help@reapermini.com, referencing your order number and your e-mail address. Your order number can be found in our Pledge manager.
When I got my shipment, It had an Error. What do I do?
If this happens, send an e-mail to help@reapermini.com. Please include your order number and your shipping address (we need this to send replacement parts, if that is required), as well as a complete description of the problem - the more information you can give, the easier we can determine the correct action we must take to assist you. Please do not send a photograph - our inboxes are tiny and cannot handle too many large attachments.
Be aware, however, that the crew who is normally responsible for correcting shipping errors is working on fulfillment of orders, and will not get to your request for replacements or corrections until after fulfilment is over.
While we are working on fulfillment, we are not paying close attention to Kickstarter Comments, so if you have a question, it is best to send us a Message through the KS Messaging system, or an e-mail to help@reapermini.com.
We appreciate your continued patience through this as we work to get your rewards to you as fast as we can with minimal delay and interruption.
~Reaper

I just got my pre-shipping message from them. Nice to see them spend a small amount of time shipping international rather than shoving us to the very back of the queue, weeks or months later.

Agreed. Though not sure why they seem to need a magic truck to ship packages to a distribution hub for super secret row shipping

Got my ups email but no reaper email (other than the update).

Weird, I'm in wave 2 but didn't get either.

Perhaps they meant wave 2 core sets, and the 500 of us in the 'add ons only wave two' tier are next?

Guess I'll find out tonight.

email received (which is cool)

I fear international shipments are harder work for the same actual money for their shipper (so they'd rather not deal with them) and thus make it as tricky as possible

From my read, I think it's a matter of it being more efficient to have domestic stuff grouped together and international stuff grouped together. Perhaps they go to different facilities, or are treated differently, and splitting them up is more efficient than having to separate them again on site?

Could customs forms have something to do with it? May have to write one up for each package or something? When you have X packages going to Australia, Y to Europe, and Z to Asia in one wave it may complicate things a bit.

Should be a fairly simple mail merge to do something like that

I'm finding I don't really like cleaning bones...

Not as bad as restic, but basically the same process, it just happens that the material is easier to cut. Less finger fatigue but just as much annoyance. Not a huge deal, though with the volume of this stuff that I have and the rate at which I could potentially move through it...

Still neat, glad I got what I did.

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/15 03:17:44

If you use a good quality file you can file even the softest bones without getting fuzzies.

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/15 03:19:56

Post by: GrimDork

I probably need to get some more files then. I had a bit of success with filing sticks or needles or whatever you call them... but they seem like they're gonna lose their grit pretty fast.

Also it seems a bit slower.

However.... it'll probably help alleviate the other problem I've been having where it's hard to accurately cut the moldlines on the white surface w/o a strong lamp, which makes it hard to do while watching TV in the living room or what have you.

I'll try the files again, a bit more time may be worth less annoyance or destroying detail with too much cutting.

Thanks for the suggestion

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/15 04:03:15

Post by: frozenwastes

I do a very thin black wash before I remove the mould lines. Like super thin. And just around following the mould line so I can see it better. And yeah, it's not a fast process.

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/15 04:12:25

Post by: GrimDork

I thought about doing so, it's probably smart but I'll probably just continue to muscle through... I tried the file for a few minutes but I've gone back to the knife, it's just a lot more familiar and gets everywhere, which the files don't always do. Filing seems like something I'd do on a nice metal or resin piece that I didn't want to risk messing up. I don't think I'll be sparing these bones from the knife afterall.

Still not as bad as restic, even the worst cleanups so far should still take a little longer to paint than they did to clean, if not by much

I found that all files aren't equal when it comes to bones. I have some that a friend bought at a hardware store and they don't really work at all. I have a good set from either Zona or Excel (can't remember) and they work great.

If you've already got slicing down though, keep at it though.

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/15 04:28:54

Yeah, it's gonna have to be that way, I used to use files and they got annoying back then too. I'm pretty used to it from all of my kickstarter restic lately. Bit easy to take too much and leave weird flat planes behind but... it'll be what it is.

Try an engraving pen. $10 at Harbor Freight, and a craft store might have them.

IIRC, Pledge Future Floor Wax ($6 at Walmart) will not bead on Bones, so try washing Bones with a wash of it and ink or paint, to find mold lines. You can paint over it or clean with Floor Wax then water.

EDIT: Or just paint the miniature in white or pale colors, then slap on a wash.

Is there an inventory list of the Bones II Core Set with pictures by bag like there was last time for Bones I?

Reaper Bones II: Closed at $3,169,610 @ 2015/02/17 08:24:46

Post by: frozenwastes

My wash to bring mould lines out is like half future, half water and a drop of ink. After I get the mould lines I take a tooth brush with some grease cutting soap and give the whole miniature a scrubbing. The wash usually doesn't stick around in any way that matters to painting after. It also removes any oils from my hands or whatever.

Their software integration between the KS picking & packing is knackered

so plenty of people are not getting emails from reaper (although reapers software is reporting it as sent)

however most ROW backers are getting a UPS tracking number direct from UPS : they're using some odd method (can't remember the name) that means UPS picks up and then passes the packages over to USPS for the actual delivery

this email comes from pkginfo@ups.com (check your spam)

sadly it seems UPS does not actually update the info on this number as everybody's seems to be stuck at 'ready for pickup'

but wave 1 & 2 ROW is out of the door and this has been confirmed by Reaper people

wave 3+ is (I think) waiting to fill a truck which will leave when full (that was a few days ago)

they'll continue until all ROW stuff is sent before returning to the US domestic shipping (trucks will leave when full)

they've already had over 2000 'where's my stuff/when will it ship/etc emails' so if you do email make sure absolutely all the info is in the email (name/address/pledge number/KS id/KS email etc) or you go to the bottom of the pile

and patience is advised as the more time they have to spend messing about with emails the slower it will all go

Finally got to opening my shipment yesterday. Only had one problem of missing/damaged parts; one guy's head is missing, and not lose in the bag anywhere, and I did not see any of my bases miscast.

There is some warping on the terrain in Dragons Don't Share, but none of it seems to be as badly warped/miscast as the smaller terrain from the first Kickstarter.

Has anyone else noticed that the bent minis seem to straighten themselves out in near-boiling water? Not always 100%, but a lot of the swords and guns and stuff that i've wanted to straighten have been righting themselves, or getting close to it.

I guess that makes sense as they were cast straight, and they probably bent from being handled.

My experience as well. Last weekend I sorted out the division of figs between our group. I didn't dawdle too long on inspection, but they do seem to be better then last time. I wasn't noticing the misformed hands and mushy faces on smaller minis as I did on a number of the first KS minis.

Also, did your ups tracker say anything much?

Shipping is Complete!
Posted by Reaper Miniatures
We finished the last of the orders that were Locked In on Friday, February 27th shortly before 5:30PM Central Time. There are still a few orders that never locked in that we have to deal with, but it's safe to say that we are done!
So we're going to address what to do about any of the problems that might arise, now that some parcels are being delivered and others are in transit.
Shipment Lost or Stolen
Your tracking information says that the package was delivered, but you do not have it. You must open a claim (sometimes called a Trace Process) with the carrier for a stolen or mis-delivered package. Once you have done so, contact us at help@reapermini.com with your order number and tracking number as shown on your pledge manager, and any claim # or confirmation # provided, and we will follow up.
You can Open such a claim at the link below - simply provide the information requested and follow all necessary steps.
https://wwwapps.ups.com/webClaims/create?loc=en_US&report_type=1
If it becomes necessary to send a second shipment, we may request a new delivery address for your replacement shipment, to help ensure proper delivery.
I have no Shipping/Tracking e-mail
You can find your tracking number on the Pledge Manager, as shown in the previous Update. Simply log in, and it will be in the right hand column above your itemized list of rewards. If no tracking number shows up, please contact us at help@reapermini.com with your order number and we will try to get it sorted out as fast as we can.
Tracking Information has stopped Updating
Your package has been sitting in Bensenville, IL for days/weeks with a status of "Package departed international carrier facility" or similar. (This is common for International Backers.)
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that accuracy of the "status" of your package, and it is especially well known that some National Postal Systems do not integrate their data well with the US Post, so for some customers Tracking will end once it leaves the US (or reaches Bensenville), and you may not even receive an update that it has arrived in your country. The notice you have "Departed for International Carrier Facility" means it has been handed over to your National Postal Service, (or at least was loaded on a plane to go to your country's post) and in many cases, tracking simply stops there. You may ask of your National Post if they can locate the parcel for you, but not all tracking numbers provided by the US Postal System are considered valid numbers by all international carriers.
Be aware that we have access to the same data that you do, and as we no longer have the packages, have no data more than you have.
Missing Part From Order OR Missing "Bit" from Model
If you are missing one or more models, or one or more parts from a model (whether an entire model or simply an arm/head/weapon/etc.) please contact us to receive a replacement.
Send an e-mail to help@reapermini.com with your order number, a shipping address to send the replacement part, and the part number as shown on the large graphics of the Home Page of the Kickstarter Project. This part number is the only way we have to be sure that we are supplying the correct part.
We will not "replace" parts which are not listed on your Invoice or were not locked in on your Pledge Manager.
The Address It was Shipped to is Incorrect
The package has already been shipped. We are unable to change the address in transit.
If the package is returned to us and we must reship, you may have to pay for the second shipment, and you will have to provide a new address - we will not send a second shipment to the same address.
Anything Else
If you have any other questions, or a problem not discussed above, please contact us at help@reapermini.com with your order number and the e-mail address associated with your pledge, and we will do everything we can to help you.
Please DO NOT include screenshots or attachments of photographs of the miniatures or boxes when you e-mail us unless we request it. Our inboxes are very clogged and this extra information often only makes your message open slower, and does not usually help us to find a resolution.
Please remember that we have received over 2,000 e-mails in the last 3 weeks and we are going through them as fast as we can. If you are rude or abusive in your e-mail to us, we will move your e-mail to the end of the queue.
Thank you for everything!
~Reaper

Anyone have the measurements for the shipping container?

5 3/16 long by 2 3/16 wide by 2 3/16 high, measuring the outer most edges. It looks like they scaled the container itself to be 5 by 2 by 2.

It'll be interesting to see what the final retail is.

^This. Since I'm actually in the same country as Reaper, I'd like to see what they want for them. Especially if Miniature Market ends up carrying it. Perhaps some kind of multiple cargo container bundle? I'll be less interested if it were bundled with the 'weapons crate' and dumpster, as I don't find those as useful as a cargo container which you can convincingly have an entire board of.

I realize you can make fine papercraft cargo containers... but I just like to work in plastic better, and they're kind of fun/easy to paint.

Holy cow I have been BONEd so hard

Seems much higher quality casts than bones 1, and some of the new models are awesome. The minator lord demon is what can only be described as a beast. Very impressed.

So far there are far fewer cases of bent weapons too, which is pleasing.

Got my Dragons Don't Share 2! Really impressive for the money. Fit is a bit wonky in places but I'm hoping the water trick will help. Dragon is as big as the Legion of Everblight Gargantuan at 1/3 the price and comes with terrain and adventurers! Can't complain about that!

Any news on a possible Bones 3? Last I heard they didn't have plans, is that still the case?

Yeah I think if they do any more kickstarters they'll be more like CAV, single lines and smaller projects.
