A lot of people have problems doing things like doors and windows but can do wall just fine. You also have a variety of board games which use a flat surface but a raised "door" - these work to dress those up a bit.
Remove your pledge and start an interweb campaign against them?
Worse Idea than a Room with 50 doors!
The door piece looks awesome. It just needs some straight wall, T-wall & +-wall sections to support it.
A set of Bones Scifi-corridors and rooms would be an awesome package.
Not too sure this is gonna hit the 4 mil mark like I predicted, but then again, Deadzone didn't look like it was headed towards 1.2 mil like I predicted on the last day and it did.
We'll see. Upped my pledge a bit back, but I may even pull in the reigns a bit. I don't know if the core bundles are gonna be able to fetch that much money on e-bay this time around like the Vampire packages did. That and I think too many are planning on grabbing 10 and selling 8 or 9. The more that do that, the less they end up worth, and do I really want to wait a year to risk such a marginal amount of profit?

He really has the "Guy in the Rubber Suit" proportions of the old school Godzilla movies.
Depending on where you stand, it may or may not be your cup-o-tea. I like it, though the first tarrasque I dealt with was this one (knew about them before hand - just never dealt with them):
A lot of people have problems doing things like doors and windows but can do wall just fine. You also have a variety of board games which use a flat surface but a raised "door" - these work to dress those up a bit.
I could see that. Hurts the overall ambiance, but works at the end of the day.
Not 100%, but I think I'm pretty sold on the World Breaker. I'm not positive that the IEMF or IMEF or whatever guys redeem the set for me... They aren't bad at all, would make interesting mercs or scifi swat/private soldiers etc... Hard to balance those greys. Gotta decide if the two batches of terrain justify the cost for me. The bathalians are pretty slick too... Hrmm.... I guess it's going to depend on whether or not there's some kind of CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT massive awesome coming up. The world breaker is a good start on that...
I was really hoping for more terrain, so I think I am just going to go in for the paint and a handful of the Core set models here and there. I really don't need another 200 models I might never use, though they are seriously tempting to just own. Some huts or other terrain I would have totally bought as an add on though.
LOL at the barbarian boobies controversy. The Reaper forums and rpg.net forums are filled with the whiniest, most liberal pussies ever. If yu don't respect their dream of being a proud transgender pansexual heteromollusc LGBTQQAGTA5, they flip out.
Does anyone know if Reaper has said anything about adjusting your pledge after the end of the kickstarter? I'm actually going to be Travelling during the ending of it, and I really don't want to miss anything!
Barzam wrote: Dammit. Now I'm in for #3. New IMEF Marines! That should make Chris Valera happy. It certainly makes me happy.
I'm still not keen on that saucer, but the Greys are growing on me a bit. I think I'd rather have had their not-Terminator robots instead of the UFO. Or that 3-pack of robots they've got.
I figure I can just buy that 1 pack of IMEF marines when it hits retail. There's only a few things in that set that I'd use, and for the $50 cost and year-long wait, I'll just buy some Jerseys from Proxie or make some from Forge World offcuts, and buy shipping containers from Rust Forge. And yeah. One door? What an odd choice... I hope they don't use this half-arsed grab bag of gakky sci-fi to gague further interest in sci-fi minis - in or out of Bones.
I still want the first parth, the bathalains and the k-dudes. And the last thing is fine. I like the barricade and the teeth things, the console and door are ok... Dislike the greys and don't necessarily need another saucer... IMEF guys are pretty neat, but I have lots of space marines/warriors/fighters/soldiers as it is.
I wish there was a way to get some of this stuff not in a pack. I really like the Shadow Demon, the Bathalians and even that computer terminal. I don't want a dumpster, grey aliens or a bunch of angels though.

Hi. Just wondering if anyone here might know the answer...
I pledged in one of the early core set waves for over $100. Does this mean I have to get a core set when I finalize my items? Or can I forego the core set and divide my $100 proceeds on the expansions/ options only?
My hope is the latter. Having seen the patchiness of the core, I think I'd rather go with just the minis I'm interested in. However Im obviously not super keen on queuing up again from the back again with a $1 pledge...
Tired of everyone and their mom standing menacingly on a rock. Would have preferred it just looming over poor Sir ForScale, but alas, it was not to be.
He's still going to be a big boy.
We still need our ruins and GIANT dragon.
Is it wrong to still hope for a not- Tiamat? I'm basically out of luck for any Reptus stuff. Had really hoped for a Bones brood dragon and rider. Maybe next time.
H.B.M.C. wrote: I wish there was a way to get some of this stuff not in a pack. I really like the Shadow Demon, the Bathalians and even that computer terminal. I don't want a dumpster, grey aliens or a bunch of angels though.
Same here. The Shadow Demon and computer terminal are quite nice, but the sci-fi door, greys, and Kularthi are lame. Some of the big demons and hill giants are nice, but they force you to buy two. I want the columns from the dungeon decor, but not the cavern spires, which are poorly sculpted. The Dragon's teeth are also lame, and they are all the same sculpt. Sir Daniel and Count Lorenth and the town guard with spear standing at attention are good, the rest sucks.
You can probably get it on ebay just after the kickstarter.
H.B.M.C. wrote: I presume that they'll go on general sale at the Reaper store after the KS is done (although obviously not at the same discounted price).
Yeah, but everyone will have piles and multiples of stuff they don't want, and there are those who bought multiples, just to flip them on ebay. So many flooding ebay just after the kickstarter ends will keep prices down. It's why I'll skip out on Cinder and the Hill Giants.
I think I'm finalizing my pledge as:
$100 base pledge
$12 Narthrax
$10 Lords of Darkness
$15 Unleash the Kraken
$18 Master Series Paint 1
$18 Master Series Paint 2
$10 Heroes and Villains
$10 Dungeon Decor II
$6 Dungeon Decor
$12 Mashaaf Great Old One
$15 Verocithrax
$25 Khanjira the World Breaker
Ain't enough in the core and too many things I don't want in the expansions to make me pledge for this one. I think the other Bones KS was more 'general', in that I could find a use for most things. Not so much this time.
I bumped my pledge to $300. I really really didn't want to... but yeah, probably staying there. I want:
Core
expansion 1
expansion 3 (still tentative, may drop it back down to 250 if I skip this, or possibly leave it in if they do another huge monster)
world breaker
maybe kraken
large dragon, either narthrax or verocithrax (or however you say it)
hill giants
mashaaf (way too creepy!)
world breaker's large friend (surely, right?)
misc to fill out...
I'm not 100% on expansion 1 but I want almost everything they dumped into the last update for it, as well as not hating the dragon, scorpion... The derro are growing on me too.
Expansion 3... Gah I want to love it but I don't at the same time. Even if you rate all of the pieces at $5ish (terrain, bathalians, sets of 3-5 smaller models as 5), it still comes out as decent value and I really want the whole first part, the last part sans lonely door, the bathalians kwah...yeah. Heck I could even convert the saucer to match my mars attacks stuff. I just don't want the greys too much.
Well, I don't even know if they'll pull out the big monster at 2.825 mil at this point. We'll see. Reaper may want to bust out one last trick early to give it that little extra umph.
Earth Dragon wrote: Well, I don't even know if they'll pull out the big monster at 2.825 mil at this point. We'll see. Reaper may want to bust out one last trick early to give it that little extra umph.
I am 100% sure it will reach the Tarrasque and more.

How do you not see it happen?? In the last 24 hours they have pulled over 200k, I see them making that or at least doubling it before the end..

I get your concerns, the focus on monsters in the core really hurt. I like gnolls and bugbears and such, but they shoulda had 8 varying poses, or gave you the option to pledge for heroes or monsters.
I just got in because it came with enough stuff that it's like 77 cents per figure, or somesuch.
One I tallied up what it would cost to get what I wanted outta the core anyway, I just decided to get the whole thing.
i have to agree with H.M.B.C, I dropped my core pledge a few days ago because their wasn't enough models that interested me in the set to justify paying $150. Instead I've dropped down to a $1 pledge for the Mashaaf model and 2 paint sets, if Reaper add any more paint sets I'll probably be picking them up too but otherwise i will be keeping my pledge to a minimum.
I really should be thanking Reaper though, if it wasn't for the ROW having to pay 'Actual shipping costs' I would probably be just another person spending $500+ on an absolute ton of miniatures that i will most likely never get around to actually painting.
Azazelx wrote: I hope they don't use this half-arsed grab bag of gakky sci-fi to gague further interest in sci-fi minis - in or out of Bones.
You know the entire kickstarter is a half-arsed grab bag of minis, right? In fact, that's Reaper's MO.
Sure, and it works well when they're priced in the way that KS1 was. Now? Not so much...
Basically this. If they were all unique PCs, I'd be in, in a heartbeat. But when it's doubles of monsters and giant spiders and stuff... well, that's not so good.
Just another example of why it's bad to cater to the core grognards.
H.B.M.C. wrote: Ain't enough in the core and too many things I don't want in the expansions to make me pledge for this one. I think the other Bones KS was more 'general', in that I could find a use for most things. Not so much this time.
Absolutely this, although I think I will still keep my wave 1 $100 pledge. I plan to sell/trade what i don't want form that, but I am very disappointed in the addons, there's just so much cool stuff that you can only get mixed in with lame stuff. I want a second fairy and wood nymph, but don't really want the 2 centaurs that I'm getting, let alone a second pair. I REALLY want the angels and especially the Minotaur Lord, shadow demon is great, the rest of it doesn't make it worth waiting and paying retail price.
More than anything, this KS has made me kick myself over and over and over for missing the first and thinking this would be as good. It's fine, I like it (mostly), I just think it wasn't nearly as good. I'm not even counting the great deal that BonesII is vs the amazing deal that bones I was, this KS just didn't have the crazy momentum that the first one did. There's just so much ho-hum in this one that I never felt the "HOLY CRAP!!" like I did in the first one. It trudged along in the "that's neat, I suppose" way, but it split the focus between so many stretch goals all at once (and often less-than-impressive stretch goals) that I was just never EXCITED for anything in it!

It's the latter. Enjoy your not-terrasque four-pack!
Yesterday brought in almost as much as the second day of the KS campaign - will be interesting to see how close today comes to the first day to complete the "U".
After going through all of the miniatures from the base pledge, I find that it is just barely a good deal for what I want (almost exactly half), so I will be getting the base pledge.
Now I need to decide what expansion, if any, I will get. Expansion 1 has really grown on me, whereas I originally was uninterested in most of it, I now have thought of a use for a good deal of it.
I was wavering on 2 and 3, and now with the final parts revealed, I think I am going to hold off. I like the first part of 2 a lot, and I am usually a big fan of beastmen, but I don't really like something about the minotaur or the other parts of the last section. With the 3rd, I don't feel the last part makes up for the ugly greys, so I will just get the terrain I want when it is released.
I don't really like the tarrasque, the leg on the rock and something about it overall ruin it for me...
I think I'll pull the trigger on expansion 1. I really like the last addition to it, almost every part of that, and looking back over it has kind of convinced me that I don't mind the rest. Expansion 3 I'm still trying to decide. I'll either keep it or drop the spare $50 from my pledge as I've already got some heavy padding for another not-tarrasque sized beasty and several large add-ons besides.
Next winter there will be much painting! My airbrush shall spit fire! Ahem...
Still agonizing over expansion 3. Its not so much what it costs, as the opportunity cost I'll lose to get something else either from bones or MA.
The kaiju has grown on me... Expansion 1 and 3 are still bleh to me though. I may break on Expansion 1 though, because there are a few things I like in it. There's nothing in 3 for me though, I guess I'm just one of the core grognards.

this is how I feel.
I don't think that it will break 3 mil. The excitement just isn't there.
In the amount of time it took me to post the new Topic title and then flip over here - it went up by $1500 and since I posted the 12 hour title it has gone up by $60,000 and it is still early morning for most the US.
I think we will see a rather mad, mad dash at the end. $3 million shouldn't be hard at all - we will see just how mad it gets though in a few more hours.

Hope it hits $2.85M so Khanjira unlocks. It's one of the 2 models I want (other being Narthrax). Still hope Reaper have another big monster or 2 to unveil during the home stretch.
Another goal down and what, 125k till the Kaiju is unlocked.
WE'VE DONE IT! We've completely unlocked Expansion Set #3!
Now we're working towards unlocked the dreaded Khanjira, the World Breaker!
And after this? Well, we've been teasing you with the ruins long enough, it's time to show you what lives there!
It's Dragon's Don't Share II! This incredible set includes the 4-part ruins shown above, Nathavarr the Dragon and her Base (Which fits seamlessly into the ruins) and 5 greedy adventurers seeking to plunder her loot!
When we reach $3,000,000, you can select ALL of the parts for Dragons Don't Share together for only $35 - OR you can select the parts, as shown above! If you just want the tower, or the stairs, or the Heroes, or Nathavarr - you can do that! If you're really in love, you can select the Whole thing AND some extras of the parts, too!!
We're counting down in Hours now, not days - and as things ramp up we want to be sure everybody has a chance to get in and adjust their pledges - Please Pledge Sooner rather than Later so you have plenty of time to make adjustments!
But we need your help to achieve these and other new goals!
Be sure to follow us on Twitter @Reapermini, talk about the Kickstarter using #ReaperBones, Like us on FaceBook, talk about us on every forum you can, and join our forums at reapermini.com/forum to join in the conversation! The more backers we get, the more sweet rewards we unlock for you!
To make it easier for you to track, Dark Purple images will be added to your Core Set, Light Purple are Extra copies of those rewards, Ochre ones are Expansion 1, Orange ones will be available as additional rewards simply by increasing your pledge, Expansion Set #2 is on a Blue background, and Expansion Set #3 is Red!
If it gets overwhelming the Pledge Calculator can help you keep track of it all at https://ks.reapermini.com/ It saves your pledge, so you don't have to remember what you were pledging for, but it's flexible enough that you can make changes to your pledge at any time! For help with the Pledge Calculator - please see our FAQ on the Home Tab.
I really like that set. It's one of the first sets that's really 'wowed' me in this kickstarter. Other stuff has been nice, but it's mostly been borderline wishy-washy options.
Ooh, that's nice. Shame it's in no way whatsoever fit to use to build a table out of multiples (you'd say the RPG only crowd would jump at cheap dungeonbuilding bones...) but still very nice. That, and expansion pack 3 it is then, for me

As long as you pledged you'll be able to add cash in the pledge manager
Not surr about the big set. Ive already pledged all i want to - if i didnt have to pay shipping and the customs form was going to be the same as last time i might have been able to sqeeze another 100 on there for a few bits and pieces that i am currently on the fence for... as it stands there is nothing i care to bump from my pledge to get this set.

I think that you could make a pretty cool skirmish table with 2-3 of those towers and a bunch of Ruins of Osgiliath from games workshop.
Yeah I'm out, international shipping and not as many figures in core I like compared to Vampire, most of what I wanted was in either expansion or addons and they're not out and out as good a deal. Combine that with a tonne of work that needs doing on the car thanks to a failed MOT the month after the insurance and it's a nono. Will definitely have to pick up the minotaur demon at retail if it turns out well in bones.
I do hope those sell like hot cakes both as add-ons and after the campaign in order to help them decide to make more stuff like that.
Big, bad, dragon...versatile terrain...group of adventurers.
I can't think of anything that would really make that better - except of course another item along the same lines (perhaps a sci-fi/modern one with a blown out building and some bad ass soldiers fighting off a big stompy alien robot).
Could definitely see that sort of thing becoming very popular.

For the KS price, that kit is amazing. For the rumored $100 retail price... not so much. Bones is great, but its greatest strength is its low price point. For $100, you better believe every miniature had better have a perfect nose and no bent weapons.

Yeah until dec 31st, via paypal. They don't unlock any more stretch goals though. But lets you get some more paychecks in.

IIRC they said kaladrax and nethy would be about 100, and they worked out to be cheaper retail as well. So, he could be estimating high. Retail price also depends on the quantity that get pressed.
Hmm, was about to put in a $1 to add to later, but shipping in 14 months (which I'm certain is completely reasonable) pushes this out of my reasonable impulse purchase window.

The deal's not great (so many monster repeats... wtf) but you'll pay war more 14 months from now.
What sealed it for me was what I'd be paying for just the core stuff I wanted.
And going up about $1000 per minute with no slow down as of yet. Getting a pretty descent sized flood of backers too - something like 1.5 or so per minute.
Hmm - they split the price of the ruins set a little awkwardly. $30 gets you the ruins themselves, and then $5 adds the dragon and all the adventurers?
I'm tempted to get the ruins as some cheap terrain - and then sell the no-brainer dragon and adventurers for way more than $5.

Something to ponder these next 3 hours ...
I'm guessing that they don't want to have to split the packages and send things individually so they are charging a bit of a premium for having to break a box down. Or flipped around, a bit of a discount for not having to break a box down.
They seem to be working hard to streamline shipping this time around.
Definitely am grabbing the ruins; already threw 35 more dollars at my pledge. I am tempted to get a second set, but I think I will wait and grab some of the ruins bits at retail. I can't help but think there will be a "Bones 3: The Terraining" coming in a few months. Or well before I get to actually building and painting more terrain, at anyrate.
Oh man, that Dragons Don't Share diorama is looking better and better. You don't have to pay until late December, right? Or does the card get charged when the pledge closes?
If you make the difference by the end of December you can add it in on your pledge manager and that usually is paid via paypal or whatever, so you mayprobably can still get them at the Ks price, just not today?

I've only had one package go missing so far, but I had to file the claim on that too. I think that has to do with the item being your property as soon as it is shipped and no longer the senders property.
Well with the Thankyou in place and likely the last time on the release I finally jumped in;
Dragon Hatchlings
Sophie (because at $2 who doesn't want to get a Sophie!)
Narthrax
Blightfang
Nathavarr
And that's as much as I can afford this month. There's a strong chance I'll add the Thank-You pack later (several things I can use in a daemons army in there). I'm tempted by the First expansion, but since the Silver Dragon is the only thing in it I want the rest is a bit of overkill.

Oh I guess that a USA/UK difference then
(EDIT in the UK) If you buy goods to be shipped to you the shipper is legaly responsible for getting them to you and has to refund/replace if they go missing. They're also the ones who should be dealing with any claims against the carrier for loss or damage

Most likely. Here, as soon as you hand it to the USPS, it becomes the property of the addressee - and they take that pretty seriously...though normally it ends up dealing with people on the other end snagging things like checks or credit cards...but yah, I don't think Reaper really has much control over that.
Also, updated the first post with all the current graphics. Kinda silly, I have to swipe my tablet three times to scroll to the end of the page. It now runs out of steam long before the end of the graphics.
Heads up to those who have a late wave number... People are dropping from the higher ones about every 2 minutes or so. I just went from wave 6 to wave 1 in the course of about 10 minutes.

Yep - I shimmied from Wave 10 to Wave 6 of the $1 pledge already with little effort. There was a Wave 2 option open briefly - but I was not fast enough to claim it :/
I hate when things end with a whimper instead of a BANG.
Maybe something will happen at the 60 minute mark?
I was kind of hoping they were keeping a a running tally of what (if any) goals they had proposed internally had passed, and they could just let us all know "Hey! We had ___ planned at X amount, so here's some more goodies you can throw money at!" or something along those lines.
Very happy with a lot of the stuff I'll be getting though!
Small thing, just played around with the manager, and when I left the dragon and adventurers off Dragons Don't Share, my shipping dropped by almost half.
Worth baring in mind it, like me, you're interested in the terrain, as the full set becomes a false economy.
Apparently if you have a core pledge level, you can still just spend the $100 on whatever instead of the core set. Since Dragons Don't share starts me at $68 immediately, it'll be pretty easy for me to reach $100, and the early bird gets me much earlier shipping (3 months earlier stated date than any $1 pledge currently available).
Why don't they just come out and say we made enough money we don't want anymore instead of stupid s*** like this?
Because it's even stupider if they crash (or even lag) the servers again because of last-minute pledging. This isn't the first KS that ended a few hours "early". Smallworld did it as well.
In one hour, they're over $3M by 100K. That tells me that this KS needed time for pledges to finalize. Yes, pledges really have until December to finalize, but if the KS ends too soon, many backers will comment "OH NOES I DIDN'T UPDATE MAI PLEDGE AMANGERS" or other whiny s*** because backers don't read the FAQ, updates, or comments. Also, from this thread, we know backers are jumping waves for earlier pledges. I think they have enough to stress about, even without a two hour leeway.
That is a really big spider. I have the metal one, and it is one of those who weighs so much that I don't bring her out very often. Bones would be nice.
Alkasyn wrote: I didn't follow the previous one - have they actually manufactured and shipped all the models already?
Yes - everything from KS1 has shipped and was received by almost everyone before this started (there were a few stuck in customs at the very beginning).
chris_valera wrote: That spider is a beast, and she's like $60 in metal. She's a bit expensive at $15, but it doesn't matter, I'll have to pick her up on ebay.
They really should have just added more to the core.
Ended up at $195 (Core + Lords of Darkness + Expansion 2 + DDS2). While I'm not in love with everything coming, I think there's enough there that I'll come out ahead on the deal. Really wanted those Barrow Wardens, but they're the only thing in Expansion 1 that I really want so they're not worth plunking down $50 for.

2nd one is much better picture and makes it look worth 15$. First one is more squished "little" thing.
And its over! And the Spider has been added as well even though the target wasn't reached (remember pledge calculator lets you add more funds so you can still add it without problem).
And Bones 2-Kickstarter ended up being the most popular kickstarter in the Traditional games category.
(On a technicality that, Bones 1 was on 'games' category instead.)

Too bad we couldn't get a Penny Arcade push, but adding that spider as a paid add-on left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Like really guys, two barbarians and a basilisk? That all you could be bothered to add for free?
Don't forget the not-bullette and the oh-so-exciting bases! I mean BASES! Who doesn't want bases! Ugh. It's not that I really felt I deserved more free stuff, it's just that the free stuff they added kinda sucked. Dragon Hatchlings were added as the $1million stretch, so here is what $2,169,610 got us
I kept my $100 pledge and added the $35 dragon and ruins, I had wave 1 shipping and plan to throw it on ebay when it arrives, along with half the core set. I figure I'll at least break even and come out with a few figs I want out of it. Definitely not what I was hoping for or even expecting. Not angry, just kinda disapointed in Reaper is all.
Meh, I *always* need more bases. ALWAYS. I don't know what you guys do that you don't, but I'm always running out of them, even when I buy a bag of 50 extras at a time =/ So kudos bases, especially the bigger stuff
They got me pretty good on this one, I was not expecting to go over 100-150 but I sure as hell did. Need to tweak my last few options. Gonna give it a good think and mull things over for a few days, don't think I need the last two things, but probably need two of those Dragons Don't Share 2 kits for sure.

Dude, you can buy mine, or I'll trade you for any player PC types you don't want

And we have another treat for our Backers! As our way of saying Thank You for everything you have done to help make this project a reality, we are offering now this new goal item - the aptly-name "THANK YOU SET"! Featuring Wayne Reynold's Highland Encounter Pack, with a Highland Heroine, a Highlands Gnoll, a Bagpiping Familiar, and a Standing Stone! Also includes the Cloaker, Peryton, Marilith, and Filth Beast! ALL of these for only $20!
If the cloak beast sculpt is good, I'll be after some when they're sold individually... whenever that is .
Are most bones from KS1 up on the Reaper site yet?
I dropped my early bird core but stayed in for $1 so i can pick and choose what i want, it's great that you have up till december to pay as i get my redundancy pay next month and can go a bit nuts on the add ons!
Buh But we didn't get the spide... oh wait. Good call then? I look forward to september or whenever my pledge level ships, gonna be fun tearing into that box

I might just have painted half the stuff from Bones I by the time Bones II shows up....
I've got Deadzone incoming, and maybe even Mars Attacks will beat Bones 2 to my doorstep. I'm not too afraid of the model count, or even the big nasties... my airbrush should see me through!
I have found that Bones seem to paint faster - or at least I tend to paint them faster for whatever reason. I am most the way through KS1 as well as some extras I have ordered since then.
With any luck they will get shipping underway well ahead of schedule, as there are several figures here that I really want to paint up.
Also, based on the SKUs listed on the images now, they added 304 new catalog items during this campaign. Not too shabby at all for growing the range.
I can't make up my mind just how I feel about this campaign.
The first one was just too good to be true. I hadn't used Kickstarter yet at the time it was running and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.
This time I figured I'd be from the first moment. It was great at first... it just seemed to peter out after we'd hit that first million or so. The core goals got sparser and sparser. Even the add ons seemed to taper off after a while.
I think if they had really wanted to, they could have taken this thing all the way for the 5 or 6 million like they had planned out. I can't help but wonder what kind of stuff ended up getting cut out this time (like that whole extra section of the game board!)
Looking forward to my Dragons Don't Share. Those ruin will get a lot of use. Dragon looks good too. Got a giant kaiju monster.
No Tiamat- like dragon. Oh well. No Reptus or lizardmen (except for the dude in the core set, which saves me about 10-12 since I wanted to get him anyways).
Really wished they had been a bit more cohesive with the expansions. Maybe next time?
The first KS *was* too good to be true. If you look at Update 30, they made only 1.59% "profit", which was spent on the injection mold machine, warehousing, shelves, etc.. Not exactly "profit" in my book. I would rather call this "leftover wiggle room". Had the "dumbass" portion, which basically means mistakes and stuff they didn't account for, been larger, Reaper could have even lost money on the project.
At "150 miniatures for $100", the Core set was as good as any bulk purchase could be. MYTH and Zombicide 2 are the only KS that I know of which reaches this mark, and the number of unique sculpts is *much* lower. Yeah, I know you get a boardgame as well.
It *could* have been larger, but funding is gross income, not net. They would have reached higher funding if they put more stuff into the Core, but I'd like Reaper to err on the side of staying in business.
International shipping was an issue, but that issue *always* comes up for overseas backers, especially if the creator doesn't want to take a loss on international backers. Inability to pick individual miniatures from an expansion was also an issue, and Reaper will have the numbers to see if the expansions were a better idea than individual add-ons.
I'd say the KS was a success because they managed to pry more money out of my wallet this KS than last KS, or any other KS. This KS was a great opportunity to buy an assortment of FRPG miniatures, but not much more.
Posting extremely late a night. We worked a ton of overtime today, past midnight in fact,, which would have made the Dragons Don't Share II, Giant Spider or Thank You expansion a little more palatable. But I guess it'll help me afford what I already ordered. I'll pick up the rest on ebay.
My offer to trade bases for the big spider or the "Thank You" expansion still stands.
Sean_OBrien wrote: Also, based on the SKUs listed on the images now, they added 304 new catalog items during this campaign. Not too shabby at all for growing the range.
For as much as I kvetched about the Bathalians, I really am happy they were able to expand the company, but it wouldn't have killed them to be a little more generous.
Not shabby, but not nearly the 7 million you predicted Sean, and not as high / as many backers as Bones 1. I do think they ran this very smart, though- not breaking the bank. The Dragons don't share almost got me in, but I just wanted the ruins and they were $30 alone. I hope Bones 3 is terrain based, like Wehrkind guessed- I'd be in for that in a heartbeat!
The last ks had me excited the whole way through and pumped for months afterwards. This one aside from thr initial "awesome, new reaper ks!" I have been pretty disapointed. It might have been better to have the core set smaller to start with and shove the models out through the ks to generate more interest.
Joyboozer wrote: Have Reaper ever mentioned why they don't do more terrain?
Well, Reaper's traditional medium was metal. Terrain doesn't really work too well with that. Since Bones(pvc) is a new medium for them it takes a while to ramp up the product design process to take advantage of this new material... Though, looking at this KS, it's clear that they are in fact ramping up to take advantage of the Bones material in the terrain scene.
The first Bones was new, amazing, surprising and fresh, it was also a very big KS project that introduced many to the whole KS process in the first place.
Thus when you consider the low profit and high investment use of the money of the first KS I think that it would have been VERY hard for Reaper to simply throw more and more free stuff at people than before. As it stands we all still got fantastic deals in this KS on cheap plentiful miniatures. No one is feeling like Reaper has pried them too expensive; its more an entitled "I want more free stuff" demand - and honestly as a company Reaper could do with making more than less than 2% profit. (at the end of the day they need that profit is needed to help the company remain viable).
They've mentioned that they don't want to step on dwarven forge's toes too much. I could see them doing more towers, and decor and stuff like gale force 9 though.
Has anyone done a comparison between 'dwarvenite' and 'bonesium'? I've been wondering if it is the same stuff from the same factory.
This kickstarter did feel a little more subdued, but I'm happy with the outcome. I think it had a lot to do with the "newness" being worn off, and the expansions being a little more scattered theme-wise. Such as the Sci-fi, Monsters, and Holy/Demonic thing they had going on. There wasn't really a "Gotta catch 'em all!" vibe to this campaign. It seemed like the expansions(specifically the Sci-fi expansion) were used to test the waters for different markets.
Maybe some day they'd do a straight Warlord campaign.
I would imagine they'd see how that CAV campaign goes first.
I know I wouldn't mind seeing more free standing terrain and scenery end up in Bones. Those tower ruins are going to be getting a lot of mileage on a lot of gaming tables I would imagine.
Going to take me a few days still to figure out exactly what I want.
Bones could work really well for terrain - cheap, light, quick and easy to use and fairly durable. It's also a bit more chunky and "real" looking than a lot of the flatpack design laser cut terrain - although that will always win out on taking up the least amount of storage space.
That Reaper doesn't want to step on others toes is a valid concern, plus they already make a good income off models alone and terrain is a whole new division of the company.
Personally I'd like to see Reaper do some more metal models and a KS for their other lines; Bones is great and chances are they won't top the pledges for Bones because of the affordability at the individual level; but seeing Reaper put a new slew of models into metal production would be great for those who want metal not Bones. It would als obe a good way to gain some funding toward making some of the big Bones into Big metal.
Fenriswulf wrote: Just for fun I used the pledge calculator to find out how much it would cost to send the dragon and terrain to Australia.
It's about $40. Ouch.
And it looked so nice too.
Wouldn't surprise me if you still end up saving money vs. buying in store....
But add that it immediate payment for eventual payoff it becomes a question of whether you save enough to make it worthwhile.
Of course, compared to a GW set of that size.....
Seemed like there was a lot more new models this time around, and more are 'heroically' proportioned - likely easier to produce in PVC. The first KS was definitely a learning experience for them.
The Auld Grump - $336 US into this Kickstarter.... And likely another $100 by the end of December....
The dragon/terrain set is heavy enough to push Canadian shipping over the $33 threshold (makes that $40 shipping to Australia seem pretty reasonable to be honest ), but playing around, I can add a lot of other add-ons and only pay $10 shipping extra. For just the dragon set, it's not a great deal, but if there's other things you like, you can probably get a pretty great deal.
Joyboozer wrote: Have Reaper ever mentioned why they don't do more terrain?
It costs a boatload, and they don't have experience with plastics. I imagine terrain also sells poorly. Even GW only just started doing terrain with the new Cityfight stuff,.
Reaper did make large stuff; the original Dragons Don't Share, Kaladrax, Gauth, but the cost was astronomical since they were working in metal. You can't really make terrain in metal. Resin, maybe.
This new Hirst Arts stuff is great, since for a small up-front cost (the molds) you can make as little, or as much as you would like. Reaper might be wise to make pieces that are compatible with Hirst Arts stuff, statues, candleabras, candlesticks, treasure chests and treasure piles, skills and accent pieces, special bricks that can be combined with the HA stuff.
I'd love to get a better sense of scale on some figures, especially some of the stuff in the expansions.
Expansion 2 still seems a bit of a question mark to me.
Expansion 1 at least I'm familiar with a lot of the figures already included, so I get the basic size of everything. There's some big and chunky figures included there! I can justify the 50 for it. The other expansions, I'm not really sure.
Expansion 2 seems to have a lot less figures in it. Are they going to be bigger and bulkier on average? I'm unsure.
I really like that Minotaur but I can't see him justifying the bulk of the expansion cost (for me at least).
Yeah minotaur lord/god/demon is big, I think the deva angel probably is a bit bigger than the other angels and people in general. The transparent models rate at a higher value as well, and I think they mentioned something about the knights/mounted models requiring more molds to make (and therefore being more expensive).
All I wanted out of exp2 was the minotaur guy, and only cause he's cool. I'll live without. Exp1 looks like the best deal in terms of bulk, although the terrain in exp3 is probably going to be fairly substantial and chunky.
The bathalians are 40mm base guys, and that saucer is probably a reasonable amount of material in addition to the shipping container (even if its hollow, its still pretty big!) and the barricade/hells teeth are pretty blocky too.
The value is definitely there in exp1 for it to stand alone and eat part of my pledge. exp3 i got cause I prefer scifi stuff, but I may give it the axe. I overpledged to allow me to get it AND all of the big nasties I wanted though, so if I don't get it I'd have to pick up a third dragons don't share 2 and that may be getting a tad excessive
czakk wrote: They've mentioned that they don't want to step on dwarven forge's toes too much.
But dwarven forge is expensive, but they could do hirst arts blocks. I'd ove to get Vampire Counts-esque add-on blocks like creepy gargoyled and undead-motif blocks, or Chaos-esque floor tiles or accent pieces.
I stopped following GW some time ago. I still pick up WD, but everything since 2002 or so gets hazy.
Also I wouldn't mind if the focused on the big Warlord pieces, with maybe some cavalry re-done in Bones plastic. Toss in a Dictator CAV, drum up some interest in CAV. Don't cater to the fantasy grognard whiners that complain. No-one will complain about one CAV figure. They'll just sell it. it's funny that fantasy grognards complains about the sci-fi stuff, but you can't get the IMEF marines from the first kickstarter on ebay anymore - almost all have been snapped up.
They should also do alternate poses for the orcs, gnolls, skeletons and so on. getting repeats of horde monsters is lame. Make new sculpts.
They should also do a line of "chaotic" warriors and mutants like the old-school GW figs. GW doesn't support chaos warbands anymore so why not.
The dungeon decor also needs to have three different bookshelves, for those that kit out their dungeon and don't want repeats. Multiple crates, barrels and treasure chests would be good to. Also casualty figures.
If you discount the bulk bases to $25 for all three sets, the Core is $75 for 150+ miniatures. Great buy for the bulk purchaser.
I'm also surprised that, of all the complaints of Reaper, the KS, and Bones, I haven't read anything about flash, which pretty much goes all over the place on some of these models. The only comments of flash I've read are on the Reaper forums by Bones supporters. Ugh, I do hope that my Zombicide and MYTH figures don't have this much flash.
It's also becoming salient to me that I have a lot of miniatures to paint, so I'm less enthusiastic about new KSs that offer "150 miniatures for $100". Even before KS1, I had about 3.5K of unpainted mini's from FFG, GW, and other games...!
I have the Bone 1 set & there is very little flash on the figures. Some of the figures have a visible mold line, but nothing that I put that much work into cleaning up.
I had some flash on an elf paladin's leg, but I said screw it and just went ahead and painted her up anyway.
That's about it. I've probably got around 40 or 50 of the Vampire set figures, and that was the only one that was really guilty of having flash.
I understand if Reaper doesn't want to step on toes doing tiles and dungeon type stuff.
I would really love to see more decor and vignette type locales done up in Bones. It would be a lot less fragile than some of the Hirst Arts stuff I've gotten for sure.

Don't cater to the fantasy "grognard" whiners that complain? You mean.... the majority of their customer base? Yeah why should they cater the product for them.
Considering bases was *the* most requested item from the first kickstarter and when they added them into the core set there was endless whining and kitching on here.... Don't get me wrong I like the sci-fi stuff, terrain, - I like all of it. But i find it funny to read endless posts saying
"boo-hoo I don't like the bases"
"I don't like the expansions and the stretch goals"
"I don't like the final stretch goal"
and then...
"hey reaper you should have totally made model 'X' - don't listen to the whiners and haters!"
Good advice right at the end there.

I don't believe anyone came even close to that kind of comment...
TBF, you and others weren't saying anything like that -- more like, "Well, I personally have done the sums, and I don't think it's quite worthwhile due to shipping", which is quite understandable.
I have the Bone 1 set & there is very little flash on the figures. Some of the figures have a visible mold line, but nothing that I put that much work into cleaning up.
Whoops -- I meant mold lines. They're more apparent if you pre-ink them. Tons of 'em on my figures, and some discussion on them on the Reaper Bones forum. If you're not seeing them, that's good -- I could have received a "not as good" batch or something.
If you're familiar with Dain Deepaxe from the Learn to Paint Armor Kit, check his Bones counterpart. On my Bones model, there's a daggar-shaped flaw on the chainmail on his back. I also saw a mold line running along his shield.
If you bought the Demons, the weapon-less demon didn't have much mold lines, but the one with the weapon has a lot of them. Took me a few days to scrape off all the lines. However, I remove mold lines while waiting for my junkie computer to start up, so it's not like removing flash takes away from my painting time....
There's definitely mould lines. I've been buying and painting bones for myself and for local commissions (base coat, shade, one highlight, tabletop quality only) and I do take some time with my high end miniature files. My cheaper files don't do anything but tear up the surface.

Use a very sharp Xacto knife, and cut, not scrape, the lines away - you will end up with thin strands of PVC, but it actually comes off quite easily, once you pick up the knack.
I used to build vinyl models, and I guess the techniques stuck.

If you're waiting for them to send you a link to it... it's been up since during the campaign. Just go here and fill it out. They'll plug in the payment part when they're ready and you'll be able to checkout or something.
A lot of people are wondering when the Pledge Manager will allow people to lock in their final reward selection - including adding additional funds for additional rewards. We're almost done going through everything, checking the code, and matching it to Kickstarter's data. Right now, we expect it to be ready by Thanksgiving (as observed in the US - about two weeks from now).
We'll be rolling out the full manager to only a few people at first - to make sure the system can handle the load and has no major bugs, so be patient if you're not in the first group.
This week we're also sharing the updated pictures of several models for which we showed concept art during the campaign!
First up - we've got the completed Burrowing Horror - which is part of your Core Set rewards.
We also have the Shadow Demon, which is part of Expansion Set #2 - the original shown here is opaque, but the final version will be made in translucent smoky purple!
There's more art to come, and we'll have another update when the Pledge Manager goes live to all backers.
Remember - ALL BACKERS must fill out the Pledge Manager by December 31st! Unless you do that we don't know your reward selections OR your shipping address. Without both of those pieces of information, we cannot fulfill your rewards!
Revised burrowing horror looks a lot better, I'd actually like one now! Always loved the face of it, and now the scales aren't distracting from it nearly as much.
Yep, burrowing horror does look a lot better for sure. Shadow demon seems pretty cool but I elected to skip that one.
I think I may go crazy by the time the manager is ready for me and double up on expansion 3. The terrain is all solid, especially when you get doubles of them, and most of the sci fi models should find a home in my scifi collection. The bathalians and kulathis may show up on my deadzone tables as homebrew mercs or misc baddies, and the greys will make for acceptable scientist/civilians to be rescued or mercilessly devoured. The saucers will be getting re-fitted to join my mars attacks collection, and the IMEF guys will make decent mercs/soldiers/guards etc.
Hope I don't get pinged for Threadnomancy, it's been a long time since we had an update

Pledge Calculator update! More Art!

Spoiler:
First some not-so-great news - We're having trouble with PayPal, but we’re going to get it available as soon as we work some things out with them. We can still launch without paypal, however, so we will.
Backers will begin receiving e-mails this weekend notifying them that you may now lock in your selections. The e-mail will contain the link to the Pledge Calculator, or you can access it via the home tab of this project.
What this means for you depends on what you want, so let's break it down:
If you have no changes to make - that is, if you have pledged enough funds to cover the reward selection you have selected, including shipping and/or taxes (if any), then as soon as you receive your e-mail telling you you may Lock In your pledge, you may simply log in using the link in the e-mail or on the front page of this project, and lock in your reward selection. Remember, you may change your shipping address at ANY time until your rewards ship, using the same link. Please be sure to keep this address current, to ensure prompt delivery.
If you want to add more things to your reward selection - We will only be able to accept major credit cards through the Pledge Calculator at first. So if you select more things than your Kickstarter Pledge covered (or you need to add more funds to cover shipping or taxes) then once you receive the e-mail telling you you may lock in your pledge, you may follow the link to the Pledge calculator and add the items, and add payment via credit card. Remember, you may change your shipping address at ANY time until your rewards ship, using the same link. Please be sure to keep this address current, to ensure prompt delivery.
If you want to add more things but do not have a Credit Card, only PayPal - we will still be sending out the e-mail, but you will have to wait until committing the changes until we have the Paypal issue sorted out.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS: You can only lock in your pledge ONE TIME. Once you have confirmed your reward selection, using your original pledge or by adding additional funds, you cannot add to this. Please be sure your final selection is accurate.
ALL BACKERS MUST lock in a reward selection by December 31, 2013. We do not otherwise have your shipping information nor do we otherwise know what to actually ship to you.
Now, let's look at some more Art!
During the project, the water elemental was shown as concept art - here's the Green! Remember the model was sculpted in a green epoxy resin, but will be produced in a translucent blue, so the color and opacity will be different than shown here.
And the Peryton, featured in the Thank You Option!
There's still more terrific art to showcase in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
I kinda regret going in on this one now. I'll have to add money for the postage since I didn't do that initially, and go through it carefully in a couple of weeks to work out exactly what to get.
I kind of just want to hit the submit button as soon as they let me. Any consideration will lead to indecision and potential extra spending... and I already threw down too much
I ordered no paint, however, I do quite like the reaper paint. Especially the high density stuff or whatever it is. Ash grey and concrete have been my go to bluish-grey and highlight for years and years.
I would have gotten in on the paint, but I just ordered the whole Minitaire set. It's a good thing too, gonna need my airbrush to even make a dent in all of the bones coming my way.
How well do normal Reaper/Vallejo paints work in an airbrush when thinned? Are they pretty good, or is it worth it to get special a.b. paints from Reaper?
Reaper has airbrush paints now? Been a while since I checked. You can thin normal paints out just fine. In fact, depending on what you're doing, you may have to thin out the 'airbrush ready' paints anyway.
I've put down a bunch of basecoats of ash grey down and it always works. I got the airbrush paint partly because I wanted to not have to thin it each time... but that's just part of airbrushing. If you are trying to work really close to the model with low psi to do details, pretty sure you gotta thin out your paints, airbrush ready or not. Somewhat of an airbrush n00b though, so take a pinch of salt with any advice I give
A lot of it comes down to how/what you use to thin down each kind of paint. Some people use rubbing alcohol for a lot of their thinning (wear a mask, lordy!), but certain brands don't do as well with that. It pays to do a little research and see if you can get a couple of good opinions on what works well with your chosen paint brand. Usually, you can buy the kind that company makes of course, although a lot of people will suggest their own mix.
Locked in at $20. Much as I'd love to add hundreds of random fantasy figures to my collection, I doubt I'll be using them much in the near future, so I just went with the two dungeon decor packs (never know when random knickknacks will be useful for a miniatures game) and the two cheap LE figures (Sophie and the trick or treating guy).
I'm actually kind of impressed I held off without dropping a pile on this, but I'm waiting on 3 big projects to come in yet, and should stop adding to the now massive pile of cash floating around with a shrug for a delivery date.

Pledge Calculator Extended to January 15, 2014!

Spoiler:
We have extended the Pledge Calculator until Jan 15th 2014 because we were delayed.
We have also noticed people having problems seeing the correct pricing - if you have a valid pledge, you should be seeing exactly the price that was posted during the Kickstarter. If you are seeing a higher price, it is because the system does not see a pledge associated with the e-mail address you are using. There are two ways to fix this.
First - log out and back in. This seems to fix the issue in a majority of cases. You may need to close your browser after logging out, but not everyone has reported needing to do this step.
Second - check your e-mail for a message from no reply@amazon.com - it should have a subject line similar to "Your Payment to Hobby-Q / Reaper Miniatures has succeeded". Check what e-mail address that message was sent to, and when you log back in to the pledge calculator, be sure to use the same address. If it is different, our database will not see your pledge.
If you still have problems, send us an email at question@reapermini.com with your Operating System (Windows Vista, Mac OS 10.7, etc.) your Browser Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.) and include the e-mails dress with which you pledged.
I just went in for the $1 pledge and at this point I'm mainly considering the paint. I might do a few minis, but cash is tight and not much really jumps out at me.
As far as the minis go, I'm thinking that Beast Mode!, Pathfinder Villains and Hill Giants are the ones I'd be interested in, but I don't really need them, and might just wait for retail to pick up the ones I'd specifically want.
It's the Third Friday in December, and that means updates!
First, here's the digital rendering of TrollSlayer Sophie - included in your Core Set Rewards!
And next, here's 3 of the Highlanders in the Thank You! Set - Highland Warrior, Standing Stone, and Sergeant Piper!
Please note that we've left some of the sculpting tabs on for the image, these will be cleaned up before the final model is produced.
We will be sending out Surveys soon to remind everyone to please fill out the Pledge Calculator - unless you fill out the calculator, we do not know where to ship your rewards! If you are having problems, contact us at questions@reapermini.com.
And finally, we wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a few days of peace and joy as we enter the Christmas and New Year's Season. Whatever your preferred holidays and celebration styles, we hope you are all safe and happy these next few weeks!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
~Reaper
Really liking the look of the Highland Warrior. Sophie seems kind of meh, but maybe it'll look better as a mini and not a render.
Wehrkind wrote: Awesome, glad I went in for a bit extra and picked up the Highlands set and Sophie!
I wasn't interested in it when I first saw it, but I may add a little extra for it now. (Good thing I've waited to confirm my pledge) Thinking about adding on the paints as well.
motyak wrote: There seems to be a button saying 'to complete your pledge, or if you missed this project, click here' and it leads to the pledge manager....
Does this mean that since I missed it I can still get in on it? Or is the hope fluttering in my heart about to be crushed into the dust.
Only one way to find out. Sounds like you might be able to jump in.
And we get everything in this picture right? Because if we are I know what I'm getting for christmas...
Spoiler:
And sorry to be asking random questions more appropriate for the start of a kickstarter, but I am quite excited about this. And I'm only asking for clarification since the page seems to say the $100 Core set (which I'm pretty sure will cost me $150, at least that is what the page following the button says), but I'm not sure these are the same sets. They are both called the Core set though. I guess I just want to get an answer before I jump in for such a hefty lump.
motyak wrote: I am thankful for your help. My wallet, less so.
No problem. My wallet is still in a coma from this kickstarter! I still need to add on more burrowing horrors now that I think about it. The model looks a lot better after they fixed up his legs.
A package, kind of like a mini expansion, that they added in the last hour or so of funding. I'm not sure if the value of the set was the thank you, or exactly how that was meant to work out. I skipped it and locked in as well.
So I locked everything in- core, dragons don't share, khanjira, worm, expansion one, the thank you pack, and various demons. When it came time to checkout, accidentally paid with my wife's card.
Woops.
Now I'd already pledged for most of that, but you can imagine my wife was... surprised, to say the least?
Meep! I adjusted for Khanjira and had convinced myself that I was going to get 2-3 DDS2's so when I decided to only get one I had plenty of funds left over for everything I wanted.
Of course now with as many IMEF Marines or whatever you call them... as I'm getting, I may have to order some of the existing sculpts to bulk out the team.

I'm sure she regrets you not going as crazy on Miniature Market's sale as you did.
I'm sure she regrets you not going as crazy on Miniature Market's sale as you did.
Ha!
The miniature market sale was justified- I had to buy presents for people! I just had to tip the balance in favor of free shipping, that's all!
Honest!
I'm hoping that Thank You Gnoll is going to scale nicely with the current gnolls Reaper is making.
Curious how big that trash monster otyguh thing is going to be too, considering it looks like a new design (as there was one in the dark heaven line already I believe).
I'm curious as to how my hobby room is going to scale against the ridiculous amount of reaper bones I have coming my way =/ These kickstarters are like a disease!

Regarding our KS survey and final notice email

We just wanted to take the time to clarify something for you:
If you have already filled out the Pledge Calculator and finalized your order, then you can ignore emails telling you to fill it out. If you aren’t sure about your pledge you can log in to our Pledge Calculator and check. If it shows as completed and you see a printable invoice then your order has been placed and everything is fine.
The “Final Notice” email you may have received was an automated email from Kickstarter and not from us. This is their way of getting those folks that haven’t done it yet to fill out the Kickstarter Survey. We sent out a Survey simply to reach as many people as possible to remind them to go to our Pledge Calculator. So, you still have until the 15th of January to complete your order with us.
Also, these two emails, the Survey and the Final Notice for the Survey, were generated using Kickstarter or came directly from Kickstarter and Kickstarter only sees what you pledged through them. So, if you added to your pledge via our Pledge Calculator, then these two emails only showed your Kickstarter portion of your pledge. To see the actual total you have to go to our Pledge Calculator.
Don’t forget, you can log back in and change your address up until the day we ship your order. However, if you have a domestic address and are moving out of the country you will need to contact us for shipping charges.
And finally, we have received literally thousands of emails regarding the Kickstarter Survey we sent out and the Kickstarter’s Final Notice email. Because of the overwhelming amount of similar questions (answered above) regarding these two emails sent through Kickstarter, we will not be responding directly to these emails. So, please don’t be alarmed if we don’t write you back. Hopefully this update reaches you and clarifies things for you instead. We will certainly answer any other questions you may have regarding this Kickstarter.
Minotaur Lord looks swell. Just couldn't bring myself to spend 50 on one figure I really wanted- at least not one figure made out of Bonesium, that is.
At least I can buy one once they hit ebay/ local stores.
GrimDork wrote: A slight pang for not getting that set, minotaur lord is pretty awesome. Oh well plenty of goodies coming my way.
I was originally going to get that set pretty much for the Minotaur, but I figures that when it hits retail it should be a lot cheaper than the extra $66+ it was going to cost me for the set... I was also a bit worried about warping in Bonesium...
I figured much the same about retail, although by then I'll have happily forgotten him, and none the pity really. I'm glad I cut myself (theoretically) off of these things, at least for awhile. Going to start running out of shelf space, and anyone who has to keep quality minis stuffed into brimming storage totes probably has some kind of problem (not there yet, would be easy with kickstarter though =/)
Thread has been pretty quiet lately. Here are the last big updates(although they're not that big really). Everything seems to be chugging along.

Spoiler:
Sorry we're late with another update. As an apology, please accept this picture of TrollSlayer Sophie! This is an uncleaned resin master copy, held together with blue-tac. Some marks can be seen on this copy that were cleaned off and removed before the original was sent off for mold making.
Everything is still on track, no delays or problems have been uncovered. We appreciate your patience.

Spoiler:
We're still getting a lot of questions about this, so we want to take the opportunity to remind people that if you need to change your shipping address, you can do so by logging in to the pledge manager at https://ks.reapermini.com
Simply update the address there and when we are ready to Ship your rewards, the address that is saved there will be the address we ship to. You can change this address at any time until it has actually shipped - once it has shipped it cannot be recalled to be changed.
Also, a lot of people are confused about when we begin shipping. Please log in to Kickstarter.com and look to see which reward level you selected. This reward will be highlighted in green and include at the bottom the Estimated Delivery Date. Estimated Delivery ranges from September 2014 through December 2014.
We are on target to meet our estimated ship dates, and will use this update tool to notify everyone if this changes.

And in fun news, here's a preview of the Gnoll Warrior from the Highland Encounter portion of the Thank You Option, designed by Wayne Reynolds.
As you can see, Knight ForScale has managed to get the Gnoll to turn its back!
Glad to see production continues to move along smoothly. Just went in for around $20 in stuff plus S&H; the dungeon dressing packs, Sophie and Mr. Bones, so I'm not really sweating this one. If they make my wave target of October, I might get this stuff along with or shortly before Dwarven Forge's next campaign delivering, which would be awesome, especially since the dressing stuff will fit their caverns really well.
I don't see why they would. We paid S&H, and our money spends just as well as that of Americans. If they wanted to keep international stuff separate, it would've been wise to have international tiers that indicated as much.
Obviously we're still 6-7 months from it being anything but academic, but I'd be kind of annoyed if they pushed my little box back a few months just because I lived across the boarder.
Why, where there international shipping issues with Bones 1? I did a bunch of research on the first campaign before I backed, but I don't recall seeing anything off the top of my head.
We got kicked to way after the end of their US shipping and their communication became pretty much useless/non-existent except for snippets that Bryan was able to communicate. Well, Canadians were sent earlier, but they screwed up something to do with getting them through Canadian customs.
Basically, we got screwed around with, bigtime - and I don't fully trust them to do what they say they will.
Yeah, I will be extremely unimpressed if I get kicked from wave 1 after having had to pay a fairly hefty shipping fee. It was really annoying to see the international backers get messed around last time... some people were still waiting for months after mine (finally) arrived.
Huh, good to know. Hopefully they have things better sorted out this time. The waves system was a damned fine idea to draw people in without messing around with a dozen different slightly different costs in the early birds that a lot of projects have ended up doing, to incentivize joining early. It'd be a real shame to gak on that by throwing it to the wind.
I guess being a Canadian and having a minimal contribution keeps my risks down in comparison, but yeah, that'd be awfully frustrating.
On the last kickstarter they shipped by complexity-simplest to more complex. I seem to remember what held things up was a sheet of paperwork that no one told them to fill out until the border held it. May have been the shipper they used not filing it if I remember correctly.
They didn't ship by complexity at all, at least not for international backers. I've msged them several times for their original KS, especially when they were shipping international backers and this is what I got from them
"It's more random. Whatever order we grab from the stack is what we are processing. I believe that was the plan when Kit posted that, but things change."
Also, yes Azazel is correct in that information from Reaper was pretty much non-existent or very very passive aggressive when we got any information at all. This kind of response was pretty much the norm during that period
Reaper
And your order is still in the stack.

And how many orders are still in the stack?

More than I care to go count. I'd rather ship them than count them.
Seriously GrimDork. Now get back under the porch before the neighbors see you!
I am a little surprised at how many international shipping issues Reaper had last time. Only a little though; I used to work bringing things into the US and Canada from ports foreign, and a large part of my job was just making sure the paperwork got to the right people and they got it to other right people in a reasonable amount of time. There seriously were about 3-4 people whose only job was to get paperwork filled out and sorted. And this was back in '04; things have only gotten worse.
What surprises me though is that Reaper go caught out. I would have assumed they were more familiar with that end of things, and have gotten their ducks in a row sooner. But then again the differences in regs for only slightly different practices can be pretty immense. Great for people whose job is to know how to get through the hoops, and really, really crappy for everyone else :(
Also to be fair, as I recall at least, Reaper noted the shipping issues and costs and whatnot when they launched Bones 2: the Reapererening. While it'd be unreasonable to expect them to be perfect, hopefully they learned enough to smooth over a bunch of those rough edges.
Hell, if nothing else they have nearly 3,000 fewer backers this time, or a good 15% less. Along with the splitting them into delivery waves across 4 months, that seems pretty reasonable.
Maybe there'll be snags, that is definitely a common thing in KS campaigns, but for now I remain cautiously optimistic.
It seemed (from what we were told) that the major international shipping barrier was that they seemed to be unable to get significant numbers of packages into the postal system as USPS just wouldn't/couldn't provide trucks to take packages and if they were taken direct to the post office/sorting office Reaper were told they would be refused
(it was never clear why)
so rather than making a big issue of it and pushing to solve t they basically decided to complete all the US shipping
then they were left with the same issue, lots of angry (or confused) international backers and USPS still slow playing things
It depends of course just how much of that you believe. They were waiting on a near-mythical "truck" to take international orders for weeks. I personally found the truck excuse to be not a mile away from "Chinese New Year" after awhile.
This international shipping thing sucks =/ I hereby promise not to flaunt my goodies ahead of time if international backers are getting shafted too this time around. It will be hard, since I nabbed a first wave early bird on the last day, but I will persevere for my foreign friends!
Hehe, yea keep your mouth shut My paints and 3-4 models are going to be so far out, I will have forgotten, remembered, then forgotten again 3-4 times before they get here. Hopefully not just after I invest in all new GW Foundations or something ... so maybe we need to keep bumping this thread periodically
Maybe I missed something, but are there any actual international shipping problems for Bones 2 or is it just people saying they're hoping that there won't be problems?
Until we see signs otherwise, I remain cautiously optimistic that they learned enough from the first project that they'll have fewer problems this time around. Good to know they've happened in the past, but at least they mentioned them from the start, and seemed to be making efforts to learn from previous mistakes.
Do we have any idea of how many backers -- and how many countries were involved in the -- pledge for Bones II? Reaper switching to "actual shipping costs" made many potential international (and domestic) backers unhappy, but this obviously cut down on the number of international pledges, which should make shipping easier for the rest of the backers. The total number of backers went down from 17.7K to 15.0K, or down 15%.
We're launching the First June Update today instead of on Friday because tomorrow is Commencement (Graduation) ceremonies for our local area High Schools and not only will ReaperBryan and his family be attending to watch his son graduate, but our CEO and CFO will be attending for their son and nephew. Since so many key personnel will be celebrating this achievement tomorrow, we decided to present the update a day early!
What to do if your Address Changes
If you need to change your shipping address, you can do so at any time via our Pledge Manager Tool at ks.reapermini.com. This continues to be the most common question we are getting, so we're going to keep answering it!
Also, a lot of people are confused about when we begin shipping. Please log in to Kickstarter.com and look to see which reward level you selected. This reward will be highlighted in green and include at the bottom the Estimated Delivery Date. Estimated Delivery ranges from September 2014 through December 2014.
Convention Schedule!
June 12-15th, we will be in Columbus, Ohio, USA for Origins Game fair, with a Paint and take and a sales booth. July 4-6 We will be in Seattle, Washington, USA with our license partners Paizo for PaizoCon running a paint and take event! And August 14-17 we will be running events at GenCon! More details on GenCon, and a few other conventions after that, in a future update. if you're going to be at any of these events, come by and say hello!
NOTE: This means the Regular July 4 Update (First Friday of July) will be delayed until the second friday in July (July 11). The June 20 update should not be affected by ay of these shows.
Production and Manufacturing Progress!
We've had excellent communication with our manufacturer, everything is humming along great and we're working out some last-minute details regarding artwork for the boxes. Boxes can't be created until the parts exist (so the boxes can be guaranteed to fit the actual parts) so this step is always near the end of that product's cycle. We'll be able to show the box artwork in a future update!
Art Update!
What we do have today is another larger view of the new models from the first 30 models that were part of the Core Set - the Barbarian, Dwarf Priest, and Tiik Baron, all presented with Sir Forscale.
Models shown are metal Masters, not Bones
Models shown are metal Masters, not Bones
We're keeping a list of what has been requested for future updates, and we'll be getting to many of them in future updates. If there's something specific you'd like to see in an Art Update, leave a comment and we'll see if we can get to all of them!
I'll be excited to get some of the bigger minis, like the dragons (only got Nethy and Kaly last time), giants, and spider, as well as the ruined tower and some more generic monsters.
Now, when I'll get around to painting everything...
Alpharius wrote: You might already have too many miniatures, and you're about to get a lot more?
It might be that or it might be that I'm in a D&D lull right now. Not sure what bob means by the cynicism bit.
Probably the fact they weren't as excited in their presentation of this one. The first was a steady stream of OMG! HOLY ! YAY! while this one was: We can't be as crazy as last time but it's still an amazing deal and we hope you support the awesomeness. But remember it won't be as nuts as Bones one.
^And then we're all steamrolling in the final sprint and they're like: "Meh, we got to 3mil, we're done. Oh what you guys want stretch goals anyway? Uhh, hey bob looks like you got the short straw PIE. Still not happy? Spider? Kthxbai!" Or maybe that was in a different order.. but still.
I missed out on bones 1, and I'm in a semi-permanent D&D lull... but I'm still fairly excited to get my stuff I will have to see the sheer massiveness of Khan'jira and the DDS2 dragon, and kraken and so on.. to believe them. Plus tons of little minis to paint for fun.
Alpharius wrote: You might already have too many miniatures, and you're about to get a lot more?

Well, it's mostly just a feeling. First they raised the Bones 1 prices by about 50 cents to a dollar for a human-sized figure. Then the second KS was clearly expected to make more than 3 million and planned that way with all the silly stretch goal shenanigans and creator arrogance you see in a second kickstarter. Then you have them finally giving everyone who isn't Buglips or one of his clique what they want, and they do so by throwing them in huge $50 bundles with bizarre combinations that made almost no one happy, almost as if they wanted to set certain lines up for failure or just piss off the wargamers in their midst. Then there was the add-on madness and the higher prices and the sense that the deal wasn't anywhere near as good by design.
Sure, they are a company and they need to make some money, but customer goodwill will help them a lot more after the kickstarter than any number of flabby rat strippers.
Yea, I hardly got any models this time around, mostly paints. The add on sets were just not focused enough to get me excited (why not focused terrain only sets?) and I have a bajillion bones models now to paint from the first run, so there wasn't a lot to grab me.
Still, it was a really good deal if you need a bunch of different models, and some were pretty appealing. It just didn't do what I needed it to to get my interest.
Unlike Bones I where the minis were just so cheap it didn't matter that I only wanted about 1/4 or less
Bones II had higher prices,
much higher shipping to the UK (absolutely reasonable considering what reaper has to pay to ship over here), b
oth of which also mean more cash on customs charges (as they are calculated on a % basis)
so I'd have needed to actually want 1/2 or more of them and I just didn't, so I've cherry I picked a few I really wanted, but not nearly so much as last time
if I was US based I'd have picked a lot more, but probably not the random bundles which would have been easier o justify if more focused
but reaper is a business and I certainly don't begrudge them changing things to work more in their favour . The first KS did negatively impact their normal business last time as so many people were tied up in fulfilment etc
As before, Production continues, with no setbacks to report. We continue to expect delivery in time for Wave One to begin shipping in September, as scheduled, with other waves to follow.
If You Have An Address Change
If you need to change your address at any time before your order is shipped, please log in to our Pledge Manager at ks.reapermini.com and update your address there.
Art Update!
This week we present to you the Greater Demon from the Demon Lords Option. This Demon was available with the Minotaur Demon which was previewed in Update #83. During the Project run, this Demon was previewed only with paper wings, and in fact still has those wings on the Front Page! So here's 3 angles of this Bad Guy with his official Wings - and a close-up of his snake-headed tail! As always, Knight Forscale Not Included.
And at the link below is a Preview of Michael Proctor's painted Dragons Don't Share II Ruins - which will be used on the Box Art!
Another reminder - July 4 Weekend would normally be the First July Update, but that has been pushed back due to our upcoming Appearance at PaizoCon. Following that, Reaper will have a presence at GenCon (but not a sales booth) and at Pax Prime in Room 302 (same room as previous years) where we will be running a Paint and Take.
Thanks!
~Reaper
I'm really glad I got that 'Dragons Don't Share' pack!
Me too, I almost got two but found other stuff. I'm also more excited about this now since I realized my pilfered early bird shipping is in September rather than November! Huzzah!
Glad I got the dragon's ruins too. I doubt mine will end up as well painted. I forgot about the big Minotaur, but I just realized he sure does have a lot of fiddly bits that may need hot water treatment.
We'll be seeing their CAV kickstarter before we see a Bones 3, if that even is a thing.
I'm curious as to how they'll go about their CAV stuff. Bones has a lot more broader appeal, whereas CAV is either playing to the established crowd or it's going to have to be a Bones 1 type deal to get people interested.
Now if there was multi purpose terrain... then we could talk...
Huh... I may have to invest... a bit at least. A lot o those CAV things are pretty interesting, the largest of them seem to have solid conversion potential for other systems. If cheap enough, the Reaper will harvest more funds
Bryan at Reaper mentioned that they didn't want to step on any of their fellow manufacturers' toes too much by doing terrain. Though there is a market for accessories, which I'm glad to see more and more of for Bones (dungeon, space, and modern are all getting some Bones love in the second KS - the jersey barriers and dumpsters will be great for Zombie games).
The bigger pieces are interesting, though, in that they're being made in a durable material (Bones), when before they were only capable of being cast in resin. Not sure if resin ends up being lighter than Bones or not, but I'd feel a heck of a lot safer dropping any of my Bones pieces before anything in resin.
Glad to hear positive things about bones for large minis. I grabbed several of the biggest pieces from Bones II and haven't really been personally exposed to anything made of bonesium larger than Sir Forscale.
GrimDork wrote: Glad to hear positive things about bones for large minis. I grabbed several of the biggest pieces from Bones II and haven't really been personally exposed to anything made of bonesium larger than Sir Forscale.
Bones I had some hit and miss models. Top heavy models that stood on skinny legs or small bases were troublesome, since the material is not rigid like metal, and has some bend to it. Hence why I did not decide to pledge for Verocithrax this time round - he looks like he'd have trouble supporting his own weight.
The more Reaper works with Bones, the quicker they'll fine-tune the troublesome areas, and hopefully new sculpts can be commissioned with the material in mind from the get-go.
I wanted to get Verocithrax as well, but they never seemed to commit to how stiff he was going to be, other than saying they didn't think he'd be as floppy as some of the thinner pieces they made.
Will wait until it's out in the wild. Even though I missed the first campaign, I ended up buying a fair chunk at retail. Will probably do the same here, as I really wasn't a fan of those expansion packs. Too much chaff and not enough wheat.
If they don't want to do terrain, then by all means please continue with accessories.
Curious how Bonesium trees could turn out. Sell a pack of three various sized ones with enough detail, I'm sure they'd find homes on many tables. I have yet to find any tabletop trees I'm not going to have to worry about my kids thrashing and leaving a mess in their wake.

Cthulu and Nethyrmaul are awesome, no complaints here, and Kaladrax is fething HUGE. Although all suffer from the Wehrkind Spongy Factor, or "WFS", they are awesome models I don't regret getting.
I would buy a forest or two of Bones trees. Oh my gods. I would buy ALL THE TREES. And terrain in general, but TREES FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND PROFANE.
*ahem*
Definitely happy with my Bones 1 order. Cthulu is pretty cool, in fact his head alone would make an awesome model of a scary ass cephalopod. The dragons and giants are nice, even if the storm giant's sword was a little flaccid. I didn't order as much from Bones 2, but really looking forward to the dragons don't share terrain and a few other bits.
The storm giant's sword is pretty much the only part of bones 1 that refuses to straighten. May have to drill and pin it or cut a channel, pin and resculpt it.
Other than that the models I have painted have been fine (though I did have to prime them as they really hate watered down paints.
The kaladrax I got has been quite extensively cut up and put back together - the softness of bones is great for this.
I put a layer of (foundation) paint on my giant (I think it's probably the same one you guys are talking about, big silly-looking sword on him) and the paint is tacky as all hell. And yes, pretty sure he got a good wash as well.
