Yep, he's one of Anvil's figures. It's a bit too late though as I've already gone back over him. He's received a wash, new highlighting on his uniform, and OSL on hia lenses. I'll have new pics of him up tonight. Speaking of tonight, I'm planning on painting up one of the Republic Commandos. Assuming that the painting gods favor me and my house isn't as ridiculously hot tonight as it has been for the last couple of days, I should be able to get him done in one go. With luck, he'll be posted tonight as well.

Okay, here's the updated CRANE trooper.
And, here's a rough estimation of what I want to do with the Republic troops. This was a really rough job, so I'm actually going to strip the paint and redo him completely. I think I'll do like I did on my previous Republic troops and use the Strong Tone dip on these guys.

I was busy last night. I managed to paint four zombies as well as that Republic Commando. I also got my replacement Gecko parts from CB, so I was able to start work on them.
I promised Grim some size comparisons, I believe.
Vs. Gecko and Spinx.
You may notice that my base looks a bit nicer this time around too. I found a lubricant that seems to work fairly well, hand soap. Only downside to using it is that the base wants to slide around a fair bit more than when I used water. But, this one came out much cleaner and sharper.
and here's the zombies.

I'm guessing Mantic zombies?
So those tags are on what, 32mm bases? Must be huge for Infinity, right?
I'm assuming that's a Basius base on the metal one, right?
I need some greenstuff myself. I might need you to bring a tiny bit on Saturday- need to fix the barrel on one of my dwarf's guns.

Post by: Barzam
Hardy har har. It's on a 40mm base and these are supposed to be smaller TAGs anyway. The Geckos are a better deal than the Sphinx at least. The regular TAGs should actually be on bases somwhere around 55-60mm. For some reason, they thought it would be better to use 40mm bases with extensions.
I'm actually just about out of Green Stuff myself, actually. The tube I've been using has lasted a several years, if you can believe that. I'll need to stop by the hobby shop tomorrow and get some along with some more washes.

Cool, thanks So they Iguana *is* bigger, but not all that much bigger. I dunno if you can really call the Gecko a mini-tag so much as a squat, sturdy tag. Sphinx is small, but still noticeably larger than regular infantry. Good stuff to know

So, apparently, to go with my Zombie Fry, I now have creepy German Professor Farnsworth.
I was on a little bit of a Weird War II kick this weekend. I picked up the German Lab Rat (that Farnsworth looking guy) from Brookhurst Hobbies' clearance bin for about a buck along with an NKVD Psychic Officer. And then today, I snagged a German Sniper for about $4 along with some sweet Menoth deals from the consignment case. I got Reznick for $10, Severius for $5, and a Paladin of the Wall for $5. All figures were complete and even had all of their cards. All I had to do was glue on some bits that had fallen off and do a little bit of cleanup. Not a bad deal. While at Highlord Tamburlaine's house for dinner, I challenged him to see who could finish their Reznick off first. I suspect he will since I didn't really do any work tonight, but we'll see.
Speaking of my NKVD guy, here he is.
The guy had quite a few extra bits. Three head options, four left arm options, and two right arm options. For heads, he had the one I used with the cap, one with a fur hat, and one bare. He had this For right arms, he has this one raising the pistol, and one holding a PPSH. For left arms, he has this gesturing left arm, one that has his hand to his temple (which I wish were available as a right arm instead), one pointing a pistol, and a fourth that's meant to go with the PPSH to cradle it. I'd like to this with his current setup, he's using his psychic powers to choke some poor sap who tried to run away, or he's force-pushing some Germans.
Here's the German Sniper I picked up today.
I know the pants aren't an accurate portrayal of WWII flecktarn camo, but it is one of the few times where I've been happy with the result. This guy again came with a few options. He had three heads to choose from, this one with the soft cap and balaclava, one with just the balaclava and goggles, and a third with no balaclava and a steel helmet. For arm options, he had the STG-44 with Infra-red scope that I used, and something that appeared to be an FG-42. It's kind of odd to have a sniper carrying automatics instead of, you know, a sniper rifle, but it's pretty cool either way. Plus, it's a new weapon to add to my German arsenal.
As luck would have it, I got to play a game of Song of Blades and Heroes tonight. I played against my cousin, who decided he'd use his Panoeania against my team of knights and Kitsune assassin. The objective was for my guys to storm an enemy camp and wipe out the defenders. I did manage this, but at great cost. I lost everyone except for one lone swordsman. But, I managed to kill most of my cousin's forces. The only reason I actually wound up winning was because his remaining unit, an assassin failed her morale check and broke away for the table edge. I'm honestly amazed I won though since most of his guys had ranged weaponry and managed to cause some serious damage before I could get close enough to do anything. Next time, I'm bringin the Mechanicus to lay the smackdown.

I shall concede victory to you in this case. He looks good too. You did a nice job on him.
Mine is still in base coat mode, as I got distracted painting (and repainting) Khador fatigues in a color I was satisfied with.
Plus I was cutting up that stupid tree that fell over in my yard. Turns out there's two more I have to deal with, so my painting time shall be somewhat limited this week.
My Reznik should be done by Saturday though! The gauntlet has been thrown!

Excuse me, sir, but have you heard the glorious word of Menoth? His holy flame cleanses all who would defy his Tue Law. Have you used magic today, sir? If you have, you've been in direct violation of Menoth's word, and that means you need to be purged like the filthy heretic you are!
Tonight I finished my $5 Severius. Now I've got my wizard for Frostgrave!
I should have a Paladin of the Order of the Wall done by tomorrow. He'll be replacing one of the Cygnar Sword Knights as a Knight for my Menoth warband.

The funny thing is that Severius is actually an old man. He's supposed to have really crap defense stats, too.

So far, nothing since Ihaven't gotten a chance to play it yet. But, pretty much all of the fantasy figures I've been painting lately have been done with the intent of being used for Frostgrave. If I remember correctly, I was planning on starting out with a wizard (obviously), an apprentice, two templars, and a pair of archers. I think I was planning on running Severius as an Elementalist, too.

Menoth and their heavy icons!
68139
Post by: Barzam
Speaking of heavy icons, I probably get the Monolith Bearer at some point. Once I finish my Paladin, Menoth will be taking another long break in favor of something decidedly more shooty.
I've got some more Weird War Soviets coming that I'm really looking forward to working on. They should be arriving very soon. Along with them, I finally got myself a priest, so my Fear and Faith warband will soon be complete. I also got some Westwind German heads that I'm really hoping will fit my German infantry.

I'll give you my Monolith Bearer for... a Skorza?
Honestly, if you want mine you can have it. He's pretty much finished, but he's done all up in his evil cultist purples.
Too evil for your religious zealots possibly.

Post by: Barzam
But.. my Menoth are all wearing purple.
Got the Paladin done tonight. His shield isn't my best work, but I'm not really bothered by it all that much. The figure itself actually looks quite good and took a surprising amount of time to do. I though Reznik would take the longest, but this guy feels like he took longer to finish.
So, that's it for fantasy for a little bit. Time to work on something else. Like zombies.
This guy was too fun to pass up. Who wouldn't want a chainsaw wielding zombie in their horde?
Like my other Reaper non-Bones zombies though, he's oddly large. Like, coming close to Dystopian Legions big. He was actually real quick to paint. Mostly he was just washes and drybrushing. He'll receive some basing material and some sealant. Beyond that, he's done.
I'm thinking that tomorrow, I'll get back to work on stuff that's in my pile. At least until I get my new Soviets. Probably going to work on an Ariadna Mormaer.

I like that regal look to them. They're probably the fanciest army in the game.
GrimDork wrote:Nice paladin and zombie. I really like the zombie, quite terrifying
Reaper's zombies are generally quite fun. I've enjoyed painting every one of them that I own. The fact that most of them are single piece figures is an added bonus. I love it when assembly of a metal figure consists of just gluing the guy onto a base. I'd like to get a few more of their metal zombies for my horde. There's a large one carrying a pair of legs that would go very nicely with my Plague.

Back to work on sci-fi stuff tonight. I started working on my Mormaer, but abandoned him for the time being to work on some other stuff.
Got the first layer of paint down onto my first Gecko.
Not sure how I'm going to hit up some of those details though. I should've left the arms off, I'm thinking. You'll note the lack of operator arms. I'm leaving them off of my Geckos.
I also started working on one of my Bolts. Just one for now though since I needed a refresher on how I did them. It's been a good long while since I did my first trio, and I've completely forgotten what colors I used on them. I think I got it mostly right though. Only thing I really did wrong was that I used a wash on the dark gray parts of the arms and, if I remember correctly, when I did my first batch, I didn't use a wash anywhere except on the backpacks. I'll have to go over the biceps again.
I'm not actually happy with the hair. I'd wanted to do a Bolt with green hair, but it doesn't look as good in reality as it did in my imagination. Not sure I want to risk trying to redo it though. I'd probably slop paint all over her and screw it all up. So, green hair remains! Now, this figure got some conversions. This is the female Bolt from the NCA starter box. I swapped in the HRL from the Bolt SWC box and, low and behold, the arms are a match! (This means I can make a close approximation of the limited edition Bolt) Now, I want to avoid pose repetition as much as possible, so, I left her correct left arm on, but I lopped off the hand. It took me a while, but I found a Reaper figure, female, aiming a gun left-handed. It's a decent enough size match, so, their hands got swapped. I know it's a bit hard to see because of the color and lack of highlights, but she is aiming a pistol with her left hand. She's got it somewhat sideways, gangsta style. I would've avoided that if I could, but if I rotated her hand, it didn't look right. I couldn't rotate her arm without it looking weird either, so gangsta it is.
I just so happened to work on that Reaper figure tonight as well. I don't remember what she's called, but I do recall that she's referred to as an anime heroine.
That's the Bolt's left hand there. I don't know what kind of anime they were basing her design on though. I've never seen a character dressed like that in an anime. I'm guessing whoever sculpted her must've been looking at one of Masamune Shirow's Intron Depot books. That costume looks sort of like something he'd design.

Got my order from FRP in on Thursday. Turned out to be a day earlier than estimated, which is always nice. The entire purpose of the order was to get some Westwind German gasmask heads for me AEWWII Germans. I wasn't sure if they'd scale right. Turns out they scale... okay. They're ever so slightly too big, but they don't look that off on the figures when you consider that the guy is wearing a helmet and a bulky gasmask. Anyway, I couldn't just order the heads, so I threw in some Soviets and a priest. I spent Thursday evening putting everything together and doing some converting and Friday evening was spent actually painting them.
So, here's the fruits of Friday night's labors
This is another Secrets of the Third Reich Soviet Survivor Squad. This one is armed with an assault rifle variant of the PPSH. The little bit of converting I did here was just head swaps. Two of the guys are using heads from the Soviet gasmask head sprue while the other two are using heads that they came with. I'm thinking to better help differentiate the assault rifle guys from the regular ones, I'll give them blue lenses on their masks and the others will have red. More than likely my Soviets will be seeing action in Song of Blades and Heroes, likely being led by their psychic Commisar.
This Ariadna Mormaer was started earlier this week. I'd wanted him to have green armor, but combined with the camo uniform I'd wanted him to have under it, it just didn't come out looking very good. So, I went the easy way out and just gave him the gray and blue armor most people give them.
I'll probably go back over the blue parts and scuff them up like I did the shield.
Lastly, we have a priest.
I suppose my freehand could be better, but it's good enough. It looks close enough to writing, especially from tabletop distances. This guy is Reverend Grimme from Reaper's Savage Worlds line. I'd been wanting a priest to use in Fear & Faith. He'll be the leader for my Vatican strike team, keeping humanity safe from the creatures of the night. I did a little converting on him. His right hand is normally empty and I really wanted him to have some kind of ranged weapon. So, I lopped off his right hand and swapped it with one from my Wargames Factory Survivors box. Perfect fit! So, what does my Vatican strike team look like?
There's premade stats for high-tech monster hunters in the rules. I'll be using Infinity knights to represent that unit. I've got enough I can swap in Order Sergeants if I need to. I might even consider picking up some Bakunin Observance units to supplement them. I'd love to do a Fear & Faith campaign using these guys.

Hah! great stuff as always The Germans are pretty cool but I really like the Vatican strike team.
I like the priest with bible and pistol, leading around his armored brethren. He may be a bit aghast if you get any moiras, although nuns with guns may totally fit the theme you're going for The sin eaters would probably be perfect, I always thought of them as thematically similar to that albino guy from the Da Vinci code.

Fear & Faith is a horror game ruleset by Ganesha Games, the guys that do Song of Blades and Heroes.
Uses the same game engine, lets you mix things up just like SoBH. Rules for just about every token horror monster and scenario.
Guess I need to start putting together some monsters to combat the Vatican. Your priest came out good.
68139
Post by: Barzam
My priest came out fast, too. He only took me maybe 30 minutes or so to paint. It's not so hard when you only have a handful of colors to paint and they're all on large surfaces.
If I get around to expanding the Vatican, I'll definitely be getting a Sin Eater. Maybe some Custodiers. I'm also considering using some of my ugly Warzone Brotherhood guys. If I wind up going for a less ugly route, I may expand them using Anima Tactics. I'd completely forgotten that the Church is a faction in that game. Some of the less fantasy looking characters would work fairly well in my warband.

It seems I've had a slight setback. Highlord Tamburlaine just passed on three Menoth figures to me. So, looks like I won't be getting back to the shooty sci-fi stuff just yet. He gave me Amon Ad-Raza, Thyra, the Flame of Sorrow, and a Monolith Bearer. I suppose my Bolts can wait just a bit.
I haven't gotten much work done with weekend, but I have started working on some more of my Weird War Germans. Also wound up ordering some funky stuff from Ebay which should, hopefully show up this week.
Got a pretty good game of Song of Blades and Heroes in on Saturday though. My Mechanicus, Tamburlaine's Noh Empire, and my cousin's random Mage Knight stuff. I actually even got to use my Armored Cartographer maps. I think in terms of kills, Tamburlaine won. His Noh hero got at least three kills, I believe. I wish I could do a proper batrep of it because his initial kill was glorious. He managed a gruesome kill in his first attack, smashing our cousin's knight against a doorway. In the process, our cousin's crystal golem failed his morale rolls and started to bolt, only he had to pass the Noh hero to get off the map. He wound up getting smashed in the process. So, he got two kills for the price of one. I actually wound up winning as both Tamburlaine and our cousin ran away. I only lost one guy and managed to get a kill. Surprisingly, one of my Skitarii smashed in the head of one of the Noh fighters with the butt of his rifle. Good times. I believe the next game is possibly in two weeks at my place. I'll have to get something good together for it. I'm thinking I'll run Mechanicus thralls, so pit gladiators and robots.

I'm going to come out and say it, I was really bad. FRP put damn near the entire catalog of Secrets of the Third Reich up on clearance and I grabbed a bunch of stuff. How could I resist? The figures and even some of the mechs were priced at little more than a $1! I'm thinking what I'll do, since I grabbed a few Americans, I'll paint them up and give them to my cousin since he doesn't have much besides a bunch of prepaints Tamburlaine gave him and the Ice Storm PanO I did for him. He could use some variety. I on the other hand will keep the Soviets and Geman power armor I purchased.
Speaking of Weird War and power armor, have any of you heard of a game called Cry H.A.V.I.C.? It was made by Reaper and Talon Games (they're the guys who made the rules for CAV). From what I gather, the game was essentially medieval warfare fought with power armor and robots. Some of the designs are pretty funky, like a robot dragon for the Japanese themed faction. I had never heard of this line until I stumbled upon some of the minis online. Naturally, I had to have one.
So, here is my Confederation Powered Armor.
I do like his "Come at me, bro" pose. There's another one of these armor wielding a hammer with a slightly different pose. One of the things I'd been worried about with this guy was that he wouldn't be chunky enough. Turns out my fears were unfounded, that's a 40mm base he's on and he scales just fine.
That guy could probably fit in there. I'm planning to give this suit some Soviet markings since I'm lacking in the PA department for my Soviets and I don't like the existing models West Wind made for them.
I've done a little work converting a couple of my AE WWII Germans to have West Wind gas mask heads.
I think the heads wound up being just a shade too big though. I think I'll leave the rest of them alone and just paint them.
I've been working on my Neoterran Bolts, too. Numbers five and six are ready for dipping.
At first glance, it may be hard to notice, but I did an arm swap on these two to make them look a bit more unique from the ones I did from the blister.
So, here you can see how they compare to the original vanilla builds.

I think you're going to be out of luck with the armor. Nearly everything is sold out now. I'm glad I placed my order when I did. I'm also super jazzed that I scored the German Wolverine mechs. That is an expensive set normally. I spoke to my cousin and he's really excited about getting the Americans. He says he'll even try to paint them. I told him I'd also throw in my AEWWII robots to give him a larger squad.

Bit of good news. My FRP order already shipped and I got a notice from Rocket Games that a couple of figures I ordered were in their recent shipment. So, I should be getting my TAG equivalent and an officer sometime in the near future.
I've also got a Noble Knight order with some old school funk coming. I'll be adding some Menials to my Mechanicus forces soon.

Bloody hell, mate. You've been on fire. I wanted to comment on the Menoth figures from a couple of days ago, but you seem to have finished about another 30 figures from a variety of ranges in the interim. Your output is just bloody insane!

Post by: Barzam
Ha ha, thanks guys. I suppose I do have a fairly quick output. I usually only work on one or two guys a day though. I do have a lot of stuff to get through, so that's probably what's pushing me to finish stuff quickly. That, and I don't want to fall behind my brother.
My Kryomek stuff arrived Thursday. I've already completed one of the packs while also working on Bolts, a VASA power armor, and Weird War Americans. So, let's see, since Thursday I've worked on... 14 figures I believe. Granted, I've only finished four and I'm including assembly in that count. Oh, and I also built some papercraft. So, I suppose I've been busy.
I finished my Kryomek SWAT guys. There's something about these figures. They're ugly as hell, but I can't help but like them. I kept their paintjobs very simple, so I banged out all three within a couple hours, including the basing.
I'm using the papercraft scenery I just made for the backgrounds. They're the freebies from Combat Storm. Very nice, but unfortunately the free stuff is lacking in variety.
Yes, I actually painted EYES on that guy!
Sculpts are detailed, but they're very clearly hand sculpted and look like something from the 80s, not the early 2000s. Still, I really kind of like them. I've got some Cyclos I'll be working on once I've gotten through a bit more stuff, but I think I really might just buy more of these. I have no clue what I'll use them for, but I'll have to find something.
These were taken on my phone, btw, so they aren't the best. I'll try and take some more tomorrow with my actual camera.

The buildings are really nice and very easy to build. Some that I've tried have been needlessly complex, but these were straight, simple builds and they're pretty big, too.
If you want some of their stuff, you can download them here.
http://www.combatstorm.com/download.html
Like I said though, the biggest downside is that the free buildings don't offer a lot of variety.
I took a pic of the SWAT guys under better lighting, and yet it winds up looking like I just slathered them in black paint. You can't see my highlighting nor the fact that I actually painted their joints a different color. *sigh*
I guess I was also wrong about the line. I thought I'd read that it was from the early 2000s. Turns out it's actually from the early 90s. That explains the sculpting style. They feel much more in line with stuff from the 80s and early 90s than the 2000s.
Oh, and I got my SOTR stuff from FRP today. Wouldn't you know it, there were problems with it. I did in fact order the German Wolverine 3-pack boxed set. What I got though was an American character with a jetpack. Turns out his product number is extremely similar to the Wolverines. So, I can see how that mixup happened. I'm just afraid that, due to the nature of the sale, they probably don't have any stock of the actual set I ordered and likely never will again. That's very disappointing. Then, I noticed that the Soviet Survivors I got, which was a 2-pack with LMGs was missing one of the LMGs. This wouldn't have been that big of a deal if not for the fact that the weapons have their hands sculpted onto them. So, since I can't sculpt worth a damn, I'm kind of stuff with a handless figure. I've already emailed FRP about the mixup and West Wind. Not sure that West Wind will even be able to replace the part since that particular set is not even offered on their website anymore. Hopefully they can help.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
I might have to, we'll see. I really like digging in and building/painting the stuff, but I've got a respect for papercraft from afar.
As far as the lighting... it's one of those things where I can't tell what colors or work went in, but it's fairly obvious they aren't flat black. It makes them dark but not without dimension so I think it works fine.
Bummer a bout the missing parts =/
68139
Post by: Barzam
West Wind actually got back to me really fast. Faster than FRP, actually. Apparently, there is no error with my Soviets. There's only supposed to be one LMG in the set. Upon closer inspection, it seems that the other figure in the set actually does have hands. They're just so minuscule that I didn't even notice them. The other guy appears to be carrying a satchel, so I guess he runs along behind the other guy handing out ammunition to him. Part of the reason I made this mistake though is because I've never seen a picture of what this set looks like fully assembled. West Wind never had any photos of the set. So, how was I supposed to know that there was only supposed to be one guy with a gun? Well, at least now I know. Still, the issue remains about my German mecha though.

Well, it's been an annoying night of battling ants. They've been trying to infiltrate my house through the bathroom in my tv room. I've killed quite a few and have attempted to seal off their point of entry. I wish this ungodly hot weather here would end, then I won't have to deal with the ants any more.
Aside from that bit of "fun," I'd totally forgotten about season 5 of Walking Dead coming on Netflix this week. I did a mini marathon of it while I worked on my Bolts. I kind of hate to say it, but I think I actually enjoyed Sy-Fy's Z-Nation more. I feel very dirty saying that since The Asylum was involved in its production, but it felt like Z-Nation knew how to at least have fun with the premise while still taking itself relatively seriously. My one complaint about that show was that I kept waiting for them to introduce some special zombie mutations, but they never really did until the final episode, and even then, they didn't actually do anything and were killed almost as soon as they showed up.
Oh yeah, I'm rambling a bit. The Bolts! I now have 10 Bolts! I can actually field a warband composed entirely of Bolts if I really wanted to. I have to say though, I really don't like assembly line painting.
Now that they're done, I can continue with the rest of the Neoterran starter box and eventually I'll actually get all of the stuff needing the Tudor dip dipped.
I figured I ought to also share my completed Confederation Assault Trooper from Cry H.A.V.I.C.
As I mentioned, I'll be using him as a Soviet power armored soldier. I think he fits the bill rather well. I can see this thing being attached to some Guards unit and being used as an urban CQC assault unit. I've already got plans for how I'm going to stat him in SOBH.
"Are you not entertained!?"

I got home pretty late today due to a "team building" activity with work, so I didn't get too much done. Just got started basecoating my HMG Janissary and painted up one of my AEWWII US Airborne guys.
Since he's Weird War, I suppose I can get away with any inaccuracies that may be present. He's fairly simple to paint, but getting at his chest rig with his arms in the way is definitely difficult. I have two more US Airborne guys and a power armor for my Americans. I'll probably be adding in that mixup US hero character from SOTR as well.
Speaking of that mixup, I heard back from FRP today. As I figured, they don't have any stock left of the Wovlerine mechs. I am extremely disappointed about that. Those things were pretty much the main reason I placed that order at all. It's unlikely I'll ever find such a good deal for them again, too.

Got the other two American figures done tonight.
Here's the other guy from the Airborne pack.
here's a named character, Sgt. Graves. He's normally depicted without a helmet and waving a pistol around, but I wanted him properly battle ready. Plus, the helmetted head has a cigar in his mouth.
On the downside, his head sculpt is kind of ugly and didn't paint up very well. I did actually freehand the sergeant chevrons onto his helmet though!
I think Graves is actually supposed to be regular army infantry, but I did him up to go along with my Airborne, so he's Airborne now. Here's all three of them together.
Now, I've just got the Buffalo Powered Armor to do and this batch will be finished.

I've had this weird urge to buy Cyclos Convicts from Kryomek. For some reason, they stood out to me as being perfect for Mechanicum Menials. Brainwashing, manipulation of emotions and mood, and bomb collars. Seems like something the Mechanicus would do to keep its workforce in line. These guys would represent workers who have been pressed into service to protect their forges and give their lives in service to the Omnissiah. With those implants, they'd probably be happy to do so, too.
These figures, as mentioned, are Cyclos Convicts from the Kryomek range. Unfortunately, the line is old and QC issues are sure to be abundant with a line as old as this one. There was mold slip on all four figures. Some worse than others. The leader suffered from it the worst. Mold slippage is probably the worst QC problem to have to deal with since there's no easy way to fix it. I did what I could, where I could, but there's still issues all over these four. Thankfully, most of the remaining ones are harder to spot.
Much like the Kryomek SWAT guys, I'm actually really tempted to get some more of these. They were real quick to paint up. I got these four done in the course of watching three episodes of The Walking Dead. They go real nice with my Void Junkers, too. Those're something else I need to get more of.

I've been tempted on many occasions to buy the aliens. The only thing that's really stopped me is that they look kind of flat. I'll probably wind up with some eventually though. I hear they're quite large.
GrimDork wrote:Looking good sir. Did you already order the Ariadna army pack, cause its $55 now.
Yeah, I already had it. That's kind of annoying having it pop up at half price not that much later after release like that. Makes me feel like a bit of a chump having paid full price.

Okay, here's tonight's work, a female Soviet sniper. She's from Blackball's AEWWII and came packed with a male sniper in a sitting position. I haven't really worked on him yet though. I actually really like this figure. I think she might be the most un-cheesecakey female figure I own. You wouldn't even know she was female if I hadn't mentioned it. But yes, this is a female. It was more evident before I assembled her. The only downside to her is that she doesn't look nearly as rag-tag as the rest of my Soviets. Now, these other two I already finished painting over the weekend. Joining my Soviets is this Red Guard figure from Urban War. I suppose it'll be a bit odd with my Soviets having a higher quality power armor than my Germans but, eh. I don't really care. He'll be gaining the "flight" ability as well when he gets used in-game, so that should give my Russians some more tactical flexibility. Next is the "Buffalo" US Power Armor from AEWWII, obviously for my Americans. Now, this is a funny little kit. He looks awfully familiar. Now, where have I seen this design before? Oh yeah.... Yeah, this design is very blatantly stolen from Kow Yokoyama's SF3D/Ma.K. This is clearly a Gustav that has seen some very slight redesign. Basically, they narrowed the torso a bit, moved the side windows up a bit, and removed the cables, vent, and exhaust from the back. That's it. It's other arm is even an exact copy of the laser weapon from the Gustav. What's funnier is that, if the name didn't give it away, the faction in Ma.K that uses the Gustav is based VERY heavily on WWII Germany! The SAFS would've been a better choice, but it probably also would've been more recognizable.

Lucky me, I got some Kickstarter stuff in today! I got a box of a couple of figures from Rocket Games' Last Saga. I'm not sure how many of you guys backed it or are familiar with the issues its been having. The company they got to cast up the figures has been giving them troubles, not delivering when they say they will, sending the wrong items, etc. Unlike some other companies who have screwed people out of money and delivered nothing, these guys are at least trying to get their product out. Their caster sent them a bunch of figures recently, but it wasn't everything. It was a handful of figures from the Council (human) faction and the Guardians of Tanaor (an alien) faction, and then multiples of those same figures in the quantities that they were supposed to receive of everything else. So, when Rocket Games brought this to everyone's attention, they said that if we want, they'll ship out whatever they have that was in our orders now at no extra cost while they wait for the rest of the figures to arrive. As it so happened, I had two figures in that selection that they received, so I told them to send whatever they got. What I received today was my Dragon, which is an all resin figure and is essentially a PanO TAG, and a Tactical Officer, which looks pretty much like a cross between a PanO Fusilier and a Mantic Pathfinder Enforcer. The Dragon is currently soaking in Simple Green, so I can't show him off, but I figured some of you would be interested in seeing what the actual figures look like.
Overall, I'm actually very happy with him. I'd seen one guy complaining on the KS comments that the figures he received were total crap and all fethed up casts, but I've got no problems with mine. Biggest issue is that where the sprue attached to the limbs was a little thick. That's it. Even my Dragon has a very good quality cast. Minimal issues on it aside from an air bubble that popped up on the torso when I cut it free from the sprue. Any other imperfections on it like mold lines were pretty easily dealt with. This gives me very high hopes for the rest of the figures, whenever I get them (and I have quite a few coming, eventually).

Tactical Officer looks nice. Very Pan-O indeed.
For the Ants, the gel, hot shot or whatever, works a charm. Or go homebrew and use a Sugar and Borax solution.

I was all set to get that guy primed last night. Got him and a bunch of other metals all ready to go, started spray priming and then my spray can fizzles out. Didn't even have enough left to prime half of them. I'm going to have to go by the hobby shop on my way home tonight and grab some more, I think.
I got an email from Mantic this morning. They said my DBX shipment had been delivered. To the wrong address. To Highlord Tamburlaine's address. Now, he lives about 5 minutes away, so I can see how they made that error. The addresses are fairly similar. Except, I would think he'd have mentioned that a package from Mantic with my name on it and my stuff in it would have shown up at his place. They've never sent my stuff to the wrong address before, and I didn't give them a different one from previous Kickstarters, so I don't know what wires they crossed. It would sure be nice to actually get my stuff though.
As for the ants, a combination of rain (yay) and some caulking seems to have dealt with them so far. They were coming and going through some gaps in the wall and around the main faucet on the tub. I filled those in and haven't seen them since. Hopefully they've all either starved to death or have just plain left.

Huh?
Mantic most certainly did not deliver your package to my address. You address doesn't even have the same number as mine, does it?

Worst case I'll let you have my boosters until the spares arrive.

Did the box you received have Eclipse and a Medi-bot in it? It may very well have been mine, though I don't recall ordering any mutants. I have yet to receive any further response after I pointed out that they had the wrong address.
Since today is turning out to be kind of crap at work, I think I may be bad and help myself to some Weird War rocket troops at the flgs after work.
One bit of good news though, supposedly my Kingdom Death stuff is supposed to be arriving tomorrow. I can't wait to get it and promptly put it in the closet until Poots releases an assembly guide.
Also just got a notice from HLJ, my Graze from the new Gundam series is in stock and shipping soon. Yay!
72319

Nope, I got my Eclipse and Medibot with all the kings of war stuff as well. It was just mutants and mecha, and if you didn't order any mutants... I'm guessing that was what they were supposed to send in the first place.
I'll let you know if any packages show up at my place in the near future though.
I had FRP cancel my orders and credit me back a ton. I'm now feeling quite bad as well and will most likely go on a binge purchase while I wait for parents to show up for the next conference.

Also, my Kingdom Death seems to have been delivered already! Hurray! If I can't figure out how to build the figures, at least they'll be fun to look at.

Bring you Kingdom Death stuff- I want to see the Green Dragon Knight armor or whatever it's called. If they decided to send it out that is. I have a weird feeling we won't see that until the expansions hit.
I could be wrong though.
68139
Post by: Barzam
So yeah, my Kingdom Death stuff decided to show up today. I hadn't heard of anyone else receiving armor kits from the expansions, but I got my armor kit from the Dragon King expansion. Figured I'd post them here. I'll post them in the appropriate KD: M threads, too.
Sprue 1: two guys, two girls, and a whole mess of bits that I have no clue where they go
Sprue 2: tons of hands and weapons.
I also rescued my Dragon from Last Saga from the Simple Green and assembled it.
As you can see, it's about the same size as the old Squalo. As I was building it and handling it, it felt like it was smaller. But no, it's about the same. Maybe even a tad bigger. His base is certainly bigger (and what TAGs should come on). He's got his tactical rock, as you can see. Even though I'd ordered the machine gun version (which he's carrying), they threw in the other weapon as well. It looks like some kind of anti-tank rifle. If I ever get another TAG in need of a weapon, I suppose I'll have to salvage it. I'm thinking, since it's head is rather shark-like in appearance, I'll probably proxy him as a Cutter. But, I think he could honestly probably stand-in easily for any PanO TAG aside from the Jotum.

That robo is sleek. I like him better than some of the Infinity TAGS. Maybe because the design aesthetic is for a killer robot and not something weirdly appleseed-style piloted or something. Gun is also better proportioned and he has just enough angles and corners to look vicious/dangerous.

Two new WIPs to show off tonight. This time from Infinity. I'm now one figure closer to finishing my Neoterran starter set. Tonight I started (and finished) painting my Hexas. The studio colors are surprisingly easy to do for him, so he went real quick. I was afraid he was going to be a total pain to assemble and paint considering how his jacket goes together, but he actually wasn't. I won't be painting the lines between the hexagons though. I don't have the patience for that. He's been done for a little while, but I figured I'd show my HMG Janissary. I finally found a shade of green that I'm happy with. This is pretty much the shade I've been trying to achieve on my previous Haqq figures. This also marks the fourth different scheme I've done for the Janissaries. If I get the boxed set though, I'll be using the same colors on them. And wouldn't you know it, right after I finished taking pictures, I went to pick up the Janissary and accidentally dropped him. Somehow the carpet managed to snap off the barrel of his HMG and strip a bunch of paint off. Naturally, I couldn't find the piece that broke off, so that means I'm going to have to try to find some other way to repair the gun.

*sigh* My goal for the day was to finish my Aquila Guard. But, I didn't get home until 9pm and I just didn't have the time to get the job done. I'm nearly there. He just has his right arm/rifle to go and I'm done. Tomorrow for sure, he'll be done. And once he's done, my Neoterran set will be finished and I can finally dip them.
I have finished the Swiss Guard from that set. I'm pretty much trying to stick with the studio colors. That includes the odd teal artificial muscles. I'm not entirely sure if I like them or not. I kind of do and I put them on the Aquila, too.
Like the Hexas, he looks a bit rough right now. After I apply the dip though, they're going to look much better.
The other thing I finished are these gents.
All I needed to do on them to complete them was finish their basing. They're totally done. I'm not even going to give them glowy eyes. These two British snipers will actually be joining my Americans as their backup. I've got to say though, I really like these figures. These two might just be my favorite figures from the range (at least that I own). I'd actually like to get another set so I could use the other two heads. As far as I can tell, the heads these guys came with are unique to this set. The other two heads were unhelmetted, but with their ghillie suits pulled over the heads and they're wearing balaclavas. It's a shame there weren't two more figures in the blister so I could've used all four heads.

Well, about as expensive as a Nomad TAG, anyway. I've heard those two units are supposed to be some of PanO's better options. I wish this particular Swiss Guard was still available in a blister. I'd like to make the hacker peofile for him.

I think they're 80something points. I guess some tags do hit 100+ but yeah, pricey heavy infantry. Of course he's a walking tsnk and has TO camo to boot.
I like the knife and missile combo... If my missile doesn't do him in, I'll just have to do it the old fashioned way....
68139
Post by: Barzam
The knife is odd. It looks really ceremonial. I don't get why he has it. The missile launcher profile is also supposed to have a shotgun. I wish they'd put one on him somewhere.
Neoterra is now finished. I completed the painting on the Aquila Guard tonight. Now, I plan on dipping this weekend. He'll be the first one that will be totally finished. I had to go ahead and base him now since it'll be extremely difficult to do so later what with the jacket and all.
Seriously, just dip, do his lights, and he's done.
And because I like to paint random stuff, I picked up a handful of clearanced Heavy Gear blisters a bit ago. I went ahead and painted up one of them today. I believe this is a Recon Armiger from the Eden faction.
I like this thing's design. It's surprisingly not very big though. I was expecting the Armigers to be on the bigger side, but he's honestly not that much taller than the Ferret I posteda while back. I'll probably wind up using it as a mech for my 15mm guys.
Also, I used that gray color on him that Highlord Tamburlaine had used on his Noh mecha. That's a great color for mechs! I think I'm actually going to leave it pretty much as-is. Just add some lights to the front and that'll be it.
68139
Post by: Barzam
I finished my other Armiger while I was working on finishing a bunch of dipped figures. I'm gradually working through them, finishing up their bases, etc. I should have more to post on those soon. For now, I'm enjoying working on little Heavy Gear robots.
When I said the Armigers were small before, I meant it. Here they are with some 15mm guys.
As you can see, they really aren't that much bigger than these figures. That makes me wonder just how tiny the actual Heavy Gear infantry figures are.

Thanks guys. I really like that color. Highlord Tamburlaine was right. It's the perfect color for mecha.
If I ever get more of these guys, I ought to paint a big smiley face on the flat front of the cockpit.
The cracked earth bases were done using the GW Technical Argellan Earth (or something like that). Follow that with a drybrush of Vallejo Iraqi Sand. I topped it off with am Agrax wash for added depth.

Well, it's looking like a PanO-palooza here! I finally, completely finished my Neoterran Capitaline Army starter box and my Bolt SWC box. So, that means I'm *gasp* going to post pics of fully completed models!
So, here's the completed NCA starter
Hexas w/ Spitfire
the Swiss Guard w/ Missile Launcher
The Aquila Guard w/ Multi Rifle
and the Bolts from the box.
As you can see, I did a meh job of making the one guy into a medic.
Following them, here's the Bolts from the SWC box.
While not Neoterran, I also finally finished my ORC with Shotgun.
Have you ever wondered what a warband composed entirely of a single unit would be like? Well, I can do that now. Since the Bolts are AVA: TOTAL, I can run a full 300pt. warband composed entirely of Bolts.
I don't know how effective an army like that would be, but it would sure look cool on the tabletop.
So, here is, as of now, my entire Neoterran Capitaline Army force.
I could probably stand to put some Auxilias in there. I will also very likely be adding the Uhlan when it comes out.

Post by: Barzam
On the Janissary? Yeah, I repaired it with a thin, tiny little piece of plastic rod.
I got my first Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans kit in the mail yesterday and built it today after work. Now, I wouldn't be getting some boring old Gundam. Oh no, it's fodder suits for me all the way!
Ignore my cruddy background.
I put the Armiger in there because I enjoy having mecha that are in scale with one anoth. The Graze is totally this show's Zaku, and I love it. It's an awesome design. It reminds me a lot of the Terran Kataphracts from Aldnoah Zero. For some reason, the head of the Graze opens up and there's a big sensor eye in there. I thought that it might've been the suit's cockpit until I saw episode 3 of the show, which revealed that the cockpit is indeed in the torso. So, not sure what the eye thing is all about. For this kit, Bandai gave a few option parts. They gave an alternate head top piece, so you can have a grunt type, or a commander type. Naturally, I had to have the commander type. They also included two sets of binders to mount on the back of it. For terrestrial use, the binders are attached to the rear skirt armor. In space configuration, they're moved up onto the back and mounted differently. You can actually mount both sets, but it winds up being a bit cluttered. There's some very nice flexibility in the torso and legs, but the arms themselves could use just a bit more. My biggest overall complaint is the way they handled the skirt armor. It's mounted on a piece that is above the hips and on a pivot, so they wind up flopping around a bit. Overall though, for a kit that's under $10, it's a damn good deal.
Speaking of Heavy Gear stuff, I completed another Gear. This time, a Nucoal Chasseur.
I haven't had much of an urge to paint this week, so I haven't really gotten anywhere on the other Chasseur from the set. I might get to him this weekend.
On a whim, I was on DP9's site and noticed that they had some free papercraft buildings for Heavy Gear, so I decided to print them out in the hopes that, like the Gears themselves, they just might be compatible with my 15mm figures. As it turns out, they're almost perfect!
The biggest downside is that the small buildings look to be pretty small. These were to of the larger ones I'd printed out. My goal for the weekend is to make a few more buildings. I should have enough to make a nice little settlement.

The Graze is a definite steal and it has a great dedign to boot.
I wish I could add a poll to this thread. I keep coming back to the Spartan Games sales. I think I am going to break down and order something, but I can't decide what. Do I order Dystopian Wars and get an armored battle group? Do I order Dystopian Legions and go down that slippery slope I said I didn't want to go down? If I get Dystopian Legions stuff, it would likely be more Prussians.
Decisions decisions.

You already have ready to go opponents. I'll be picking up some rulebooks from Miniature Market.

Post by: Barzam
Eeh. But I don't know who or what to get. The cheapest option is probably the least aesthetically pleasing of the bunch. And then having to paint all of that tiny stuff? Doesn't sound as appealing as painting Prussian uniforms.
72319
Post by: highlord tamburlaine
Quite true. Having to paint piles of tanks does not sound super appealing.
What did you have in mind? The Blazing Sun stuff isn't too much, with FRP having a few armored sets for around 12- 14 including a walker.
That should be more than enough to get started at least. I'll bring some stuff with me tomorrow to show you, give you an idea of the size.
68139
Post by: Barzam
The Blazing Sun is the cheapest, yeah, but I just don't really like their aesthetic. I like the Prussians way more, but they're barely marked down. I suppose I could compromise and get the Japanese from FRP and grab the Prussian officers from Miniature Market.
Of significantly more interest to me though is Weird War. I forced myself to do some painting tonight. I've had this odd malaise about me and haven't really wanted to pick up my paint brush this week. I'm probably suffering a bit of burn out. But, this guy was real quick and easy to do, so that helps.
This guy is called Sickle, one of a duo of Soviet heroes in Secrets of the Third Reich. I wish I had Hammer to go with him, but he'd been long gone from FRP's stock when I got Sickle.
Nothing like having more NKVD guys running around. In this case, it's at least a heroic commissar. I guess I can switch off between him and the psychic one leading my Russkies.

This week's forecast, we're expecting to see Quar all week long, with a chance of Heavy Gear and occasional Weird War.
My Toulmore are primed and ready for paint. My plan is to attempt to do at least one Quar a day this week. And I don't mean just basecoating them and then sticking them aside to await a dipping. No, I intend to COMPLETE, yes, actually complete one Quar a day.
Tonight, I got through my first Rhyfler (standard infantry), fixed the bipod on my LMG, and actually based all three finished figures!
The photos make him look a bit rough, but he looks perfectly fine in person.
By Halloween, I hope to have the entire starter set finished. I've got a mortar team, too, but they're Crusaders and I'm currently waffling about whether I want to keep them Crusaders, or whether I should order the Toulmore upgrade set and have them match the rest of my Quars.

I am sticking to my pledge. Rhyfler #2 is finished.
Also started working on my 2nd NuCoal Chasseur. Got most of his base colors down. All that's left is highlights, the blue bits, the eye, the missiles, and the base.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Speaking of Heavy Gear, FRP seems to be putting an aweful lot of the recent boxed sets on sale. I wish the deals on them were a bit better. Thankfully, the Eden/CEF/Utopia stuff is marked down better than the rest. I wound up grabbing myself another Armiger, this time a hovering Commando model with a bunch of floaty drones that I'd been wanting. Those drones will make excellent Remote stand-ins for Infinity.
I also got in an order I'd made for some CEF powered suits. Should be fun to work on those.

I don't know how effective an army like that would be, but it would sure look cool on the tabletop.
I love me some AVA:TOTAL spam, Bolt team looks grand

I used to feel the same way about the Quars, Ckig. But, something about them really appealed to me as well. A chance to get some cheap sealed the deal and after having them in hand, I've come to really like the little guys. Plus they look like penguins wearing WWI gear. What's not to love about that?
Boss Salvage, I think the Bolts might just be one of my favorite infantry designs in the game. I just had to get more than I needed. The fact that they are AVA: total was an added bonus.

I see where you're coming from about the wormy vibe, Grim. The Quars actually do have faces. They're just hidden under their helmets, leaving their snouts exposed. I believe they're actually supposed to be some kind of creature related to the anteater, though I think they look a bit more avian. One of the figures, a Crusader character actually has his face exposed and there's artwork depicting them without headgear as well. With their faces exposed, they look a bit more like Skeksis.
I got Rhyfler #3 done today.
I got him done quickly, so I had time to work on some Heavy gear figures. I assembled and primed some powered suits and finished up the second Chasseur.
I have to say, I like the NuCoal kits so far. They're like flashier versions of the Southern Gears. Someday I'd like to get some of their bigger ones. And some Jerboas. I really want some Jerboas.

JoshInJapan wrote:What are those guys? An admittedly cursory google search gave me lots of links to images of quartz crystals...
They're from a game called This Quar's War, which is put out by Zombiesmith. It's basically a WWI influenced game about alien anteater guys. Their world has been locked in nearly perpetual war for hundreds of years with tons of city states and small kingdoms fighting over territory. Eventually a warlord shows up who starts conquering nations and unifying them under his banner These are the Crusaders, whose conquest has somewhat come to a stalemate as they come into conflict with Coftyran, who wants to retain its monarchy. So, you've got two sides with three factions (I believe) each and there's some neutral partisan/militia types as well. On the Crusaders side, you have the Crusaders themselves, Toulmore, and Kryst. On Coftyran's side, you have Coftyran, Fidwog, and Gwynt. Coftyran and its allies have sort of a late 19th century look to their uniforms and gear while the Crusaders have a late WWI look to theirs. The game is available in three scales: 28mm, 15mm, and 6mm and all scales have infantry, cavalry, and vehicles. This Quar's War is a mass battle game, but there's also a skirmish sized version called A Song of Our Ancestors, which was made in collaboration with Ganesha Games. A Song of Our Ancestors is a modified version of their Flying Lead ruleset. As I understand it, a lot of people also use Quars in Bolt Action.

Yes. Yes you should.
Vaktathi wrote:Very cool stuff, liking it all
Thanks. I try to keep my collection fairly varied, so there should be more unusual stuff in here as compared to what everyone else is posting in the P&M section. Glad you're liking what you're seeing.
Rhyfler #4 is now done. You may notice he's very similar to Rhyfler #1. However, #4 has a different jacket, which has long sleeves, he has different ammo packs, his gear on his back is different, and you'll notice his skin doesn't have any spots. I made sure to keep different details on all of them so that while they look similar all together, there's small things here and there that are different. I decided to keep his skin spot-free to match up with the LMG gunner, who also lacks spots. I also kept his skin a bit darker.
I started working on my CEF Alpha battlesuit squad, but I only completed one of them.
These guys are extremely thin and had all kinds of little casting issues. I think every head had a prominent mold line going through it that I couldn't get rid of. I like the figures though. One can't have too many suits of power armor. This'll be my third type in "15mm".
That mech hunter guy almost looks like he could actually fit in it, even!
Lastly, I decided to show some pity on some of my Rebel Minis zombies that were sitting around partially painted.
This fellow also arrived today. I'll work on him over the weekend.

Yes! My Toumore Veteran Rhyfler Squad is complete!
Here's the final figure, the squad leader.
And the complete squad with LMG unit attachment.
I also got a couple packages in today. Got my Antarctica Air Fleet for Dystopian Wars (though for some reason it arrived before my Heavy Gear order, despite being placed after it) along with an HLJ box. My HLJ box had three items. The first was the accessory pack for Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans, which includes a few weapons, a shield, and a little 3-legged tank mech. The second was a pack of intake vents from Kotobukiya that I wanted to detail up a Clearhorizon gunship. Lastly, there was a Wave 1/20 Maschinen Krieger kit, the S.A.F.S. Mk.III, codename: Raptor.
I already built the Raptor.
Full articulation through polycaps, no glue needed. It does need paint though. Not sure how I'll paint it or when I'll get around to doing that. For now, it gets to stand around and look menacing.

Plugging away at my Heavy Gear minis. I finished my CEF Alpha squad in my free time today. They were actually fun to paint, but I'm glad I'm done with them now. They're damn tiny.
CEF Alpha w/ Grenade launcher and rocket pod
CEF Command Alpha w/ flamer and rocket pod. I have no clue if this is a legal or even decent loadout, but I thought it looked cool, so I don't care.
So, here's all of my CEF troops now.
I'm still expecting another Armiger and some floaty drones, so they're going to be getting some reinforcements sometime soon.
I also painted up one of my Southern Paratrooper Jaegers. I've had these guys a couple years now and have started them, then stripped them, then started again several times on these guys. I've never really been happy with what I've done on them and the repeated strippings haven't been the best, leaving odd chunks of paint here and there. So, this guy's a bit of a rescue project.
I'll get to his buddy fairly soon. For now, unless I get an urge to work on something else, my next project is to work on one of my HG Strider mechs.

Post by: Barzam
Not much to show today. I've been doing cleanup on one of my Strider mecha. Dream Pod 9 didn't do the best casting job on it. I suppose the parts of it that you would normally see look fine, but parts of the underside on it, like on the legs and the feet were pretty badly cast. I did my best to clean them up. I know those parts won't normally be seen, but I'll know they're there. I would've started assembling it tonight, but I wasn't pleased with my cleaning job. Too much of the mold release residue was still one it, so I dunked it in the Simple Green to try and get the rest of it off. Assembly should commence Wednesday.
Meanwhile, I've been doing a lot of papercraft stuff. Mostly I've been building small, simply Heavy Gear papercraft buildings. I think I'm getting better at it. I've having a lot less paper exposed and I'm getting the proper shapes. I tried my hand at something a bit more complex tonight though. I printed out some Ebbles Miniatures Convoy Trucks in 15mm and figured I've got enough experience now that I could do a decent enough job on them. Well, I built one.
I'm happy enough with the job I did. It looks a hell of a lot better than that hover craft I attempted a couple years ago. But my God, building those tires was a pain in the ass! Out of the entire kit, those took the most work and slowed me down the most, and they're just six tiny little pieces!
Anyway, I think at this point, I've got enough buildings now that I can at least try out some small scale skirmish stuff. So, though I don't have enough zombies finished to play Red Ops 5 (still), I should have enough stuff to play Modern Havoc. Once I retrieve my copy of the rules from my parents' house, I'll have to give it a try.

Yeah, papercraft is fun, but it's a PITA when something doesn't go together. I'm sure you posted about it before, but what buildings are you using?

No, it isn't that kind of Thunderhammer. This is the Northern fire support Strider Thunderhammer from Heavy Gear. I got it cleaned and assembled tonight.
As a side note, dunking resin in Simple Green works way better at removing mold release and other residue than just using soapy water.

I still disagree on the simple green stuff.
You have to let it soak for days. DAYS. I don't want to wait days if I have a new toy to paint! I want to paint it NOW.
It takes about a minute to do it in the sink.
Any progress on the android girl you got last week?

It doesn't take days. I put the Thunderhammer in before I left for work in the morning and took it out when I got home. That was it. Just a few hours.

I think Quar would be interesting to play in any game. They strike an odd balance between being cartoony and realistic.
Okay, tonight's update, I've got that gunship I was working on. Now, I should probably preface this before I post the pic. I found this kit a couple months back at Brookhurst Hobbies. I had no clue any of Clearhorizon's stuff had ever been sold by any brick and mortar retailers. They only had a few of the vehicles and none of the figures. The vehicles they had were some drop pods, the Sparrow Hawk, and the Raven (a larger VTOL). All of them had oddly mismatched colors of resin and there were some fairly noticeable miscast bits that I could see on a couple of them. I've heard Mr. Harold, the guy who runs Clearhorizon mention in the past that the Sparrow Hawk and the Raven were some of the first vehicles he did, and I believe they were done very early on, possibly even before he started making the Hell Diver figures. So, I'm betting that the kits Brookhurst has were likely some of the very first Clearhorizon made. With that in mind, the casting on this kit isn't very good. I'm absolutely sure it's one of his earliest. There's small errors and smudges all over it. The tail fins were a mess and, weirdest of all, the whole thing was sticky. I mean, really sticky. Even after repeated washings and cleanings, the thing was sticky. The small guns that go on the front of it were just a sicky blob. I tried to repair what I could, and I think it's pretty acceptable now.
Thankfully, now that I've painted it, the stickyness is gone. I've made a few small mods to the kit, too. For some reason, the engines had no intakes. This isn't an error, that's just the way it was sculpted. So, because it bugged me, I got some from Kotobukiya and added them. Funny enough, it looks like those exact same intake pieces were used for the exhaust vents when Mr. Harold sculpted it. I also changed the chin gun. As I mentioned, the guns it came with were a mess and completely unusable. So, I salved the ammo drums, which were actually no sticky at all and chopped up a spare minigun from one of my Heavy Gear Armigers. I actually much prefer this new weapon setup now. I have to say, despite the problems this kit had, Clearhorizon's current stuff is lightyears better. My Nemesis had absolutely no issues with it and fit together perfectly. So, I imagine that if I were to order one of these from Clearhorizon now (or his more recent up-gunned variant), I probably wouldn't have any of the issues that this kit had. I should also note, for a 15mm kit, this thing is actually a pretty decent size. It's almost as big as my Sabre gunship from Rebel Minis and it's bigger than my Nemesis. It's just about the perfect size to hold in your hand and make swooshing noises with.
I also finished painting up my second Paratrooper Jaeger tonight.
I think my Scopedog scheme is pretty obvious. I'll need to eventually get some of the standard Jaegers so I can make some Red Shoulders.
72319
Post by: highlord tamburlaine
Needs more Red Shoulders.
Or Heat Hawks.
The way you're painting those guys I can't tell which influence is creeping into your work.
Where's the 15mm Chirico to go with his mech?
55682
Post by: JoshInJapan
I can see what you mean about the dropship being somewhat dated,if not crude. That said, you turned it into a fine gaming piece. I particularly like how you painted the canopy. Will it eventually get some sort of flying stand?
68139
Post by: Barzam
For now, no, I won't be getting a flight stand for it. I may someday though. Clearhorizon actually partnered with Gamecraft to make buildings and stuff and they actually do make some flight stands for their VTOLs. If iget one, it'll probably be one of those.

Not a huge update, but I painted up one of my GOT Clan troops from Khurasan Miniatures.
And just for fun, I thought I'd take a little size comparison of some of the 15mm figures I've got.
All of them are claimed to be 15mm, yet there's a considerable size difference between them all. The Rangers Project guy is the smallest and skinniest of the bunch, almost looking like he's closer to 1/144 scale. Then you've got Rebel Minis and Khurasan, both about the same size and with similar proportions. Then there's that Rebel Minis zombie. Same company, same scale, yet he's huge in comparison to the others. It doesn't show so well in this pic, but his limbs are much chunkier and he seems to actually be a fair bit taller, especially compared to the Rangers Project guy.

I'm making slow, but steady progress on my Thunderhammer. I think I'm coming down with something though, so that's not making things go much faster. I'd say that I'm about 80% finished though. The rear legs, the gun, and the bottoms of the feet and toes still need more work.

Probably Xabungle.
68139
Post by: Barzam
It reminds me more of a shmup boss. Like something I should be fighting in Raiden. It needs to look more like a converted construction machine to be a proper Xabungle mech.
Looking at this pic, I'm kind of thinking maybe I should change the toe color. It seems like the toes would receive a lot of eear and tear, so maybe I'll paint them silver to look like bare metal?
68139
Post by: Barzam
The Thunderhammer is now complete! It took a little longer than I thought it would, but I'm really happy with it.
I actually really love how the color scheme looks on it, too. The EFF scheme I used on the ferret was the basis for the colors here, and I like that, despite being kind of bright, they look like they'd work really well in an arid environment. My one and only complaint is that this thing is supposed to essentially be a walking artillery piece. Its gun is so small. I really wish it were bigger. If I'd purchased this directly from DP9, I could've got a bunch of extra turret options included, like an anti-aircraft battery and a missile launcher, but that also would've cost me significantly more.
Here it is with my Ferret, my only other Northern Gear as well as the usual Mech Hunter guys.
And, for those interested, here's how it compares to a 28mm figure.
It's too small to believably fit a pilot, but I think it could work in a 28mm game as a large remote or drone.

I'm actually really jazzed about the Thunderhammer. I think it might be my favorite piece that I've done in a long time. I hope I'll be as happy with the Fire Dragon.

Ooooooooh. Excited for raicho. I can technically purchase one now since I have a Morat faction (or well at least the Sogarat MM had on sale a week or two ago...) But I think I stl favor the sphynx.

Post by: Barzam
I'll start work on the Raicho next week at the earliest. I've got other stuff in line ahead of it to go through first. I got my Pathfinder Android Priestess painted up. She'll be acting as a Tech Priestess character for my Mechanicus. I'm not entirely sold on this look. I'm somewhat tempted to paint proper skin on her, but I do also kind of like the idea that her skin's been replaced with metal. The camera also made her eyes look really weird. I actually painted normal eyes, not those creepy white dots that the picture makes them look like. It's a little hard to see, but she's got circuitry patterns all over her arms and the side of her face. She'd actually make a pretty good Electropriest character.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
The way I'm seeing the picture is glowey red terminator eyes, I approve I'm not sure about the skin. It works how it is, but it could be different. Maybe something really pale or not quite human if you do go back with a flesh tone? Just a little outside the normal range like Data or something. Anyway, cool mini, keep them coming

Well, Tamburlaine had a bit of a head start, but it looks like I've won as I'm the first to actually post his completed model.

Well, I was on a roll tonight. I based and primed a bunch of 15mm figures and finished two 28mm figures I'd been working on.
A while back I showed the Last Saga miniatures I'd received so far from the Kickstarter. Well, I'd started painting both of them... and promptly moved onto something newer and shinier before I'd finished either figure. Well, I went back and finally finished up the Tactical Officer.
I was sort of going for a District 9, MNU scheme for him. I think it suits him and makes him look a bit less like a Panoceania knock-off.
Speaking of, the dude is pretty big. Here's how he stacks up against older and newer PanO figures.
I'd say he'd fit in better with the newer stuff. Now, the Dragon/ TAG, that I haven't gotten back to yet. I'll get back it eventually though. Whenever I get some inspiration.
The other figure I worked on, Tamburlaine should recognize. This guy is Kulgara, a recent Reaper Pathfinder figure from one of the game's recent supplements.
I guess the supplement is supposed to take place in Numeria or something. Some world that's full on sci-fi with full on fantasy tropes running around in it. All I know about it is that its got robots, skeleton spacement, and cyborg barbarians with beam sabers. This figure was actually given to me by Highlord Tamburlaine. He had purchased him from the FLGS on a whim because, let's face it, for an ork, he looks cool. Anyway, it turned out he was missing some... thing that goes on his back. After he contacted Reaper about it, they wound up sending him a whole new figure. So, he gave me the spare. All I needed to do was fill in the hole on his back and he's perfectly usable. The job I did on that hole kind of sucks, but it's fine for now. My plan is to eventually give him a backpack, but I don't have any backpack bits laying around. So, until I find out, he'll have to count as being done.
My plan for him is to use him as a Marauder hero. Despite the fact that he's standing up straight, he doesn't look that bad alongside my Mantic Marauders.
Of course, that means I'll have to actually paint up some more Marauders than just these two to go with him. Someday.
For now, my goal for the rest of the week is to work on my 15mm troops and to assemble and paint my Raicho. Raicho assembly is planned for tomorrow.

Post by: Barzam
Well, I said I was going to work on the Raicho and if possible, multi-task and work on 15mm stuff. I just so happened to actually pull that off tonight!
I've begun the basecoating on the Raicho. He's got some very hard to reach spaces on him.
I really have to point out a few issues I've got with the Raicho. First, he's right handed. Why is he right handed? The Morats are almost all lefties. He's even got his shield on his right arm, which would generally mean that that is the side he'd be pointing towards the enemy while he holds the gun in his left hands. I don't get why they did that. Second issue, he's way too small. Yeah, he's too small. Those operator arms are smaller than any Morat kit that's ever been released. There's no way a Morat, or any figure in the entire line, really could fit in that suit. It needs to be bigger. Lastly, I don't know what the hell is going on with its rear skirt armor. The way they designed it, you'd think it had been a 3D model because parts of the rear plate look like they're clipping into the thigh armor. You could argue that maybe the armor is going underneath the thigh plates, but no. The thigh plates are literally going THROUGH parts of the rear plate. That makes no sense.
As I mentioned though, I did multitask. I primed, based, and even started paiting 24 15mm figures. I only actually finished 3 of them though.
Zombies are Rebel Minis and the guy on the right is a Peter Pig Militiaman. I like that the Rebel Minis zombies have a bit of variety to them. You've got businessmen, doctors, cops, firefighters, cheerleaders, regular people, all sorts among the living dead. Nice touch. My plan is tomorrow to finish up the other 7 militia guys. Thankfully, they actually paint up very quickly. On the downside though, I will probably have to buy more them next time I go to Brookhurst. They are distinctly lacking heavy weapons and command options.

Post by: highlord tamburlaine
Zombies look cool.
Shame about the Raicho. I remember you telling me you thought it would be real big (like ACTUAL big, not just Infinity "big") due to being a Morat TAG and all. Design still looks pretty cool.
Is that the actual base it came with or you just didn't feel like adding the base extender to their tiny dinky ones?

For an Infinity kit, the Raicho is pretty big. Chunky too. It just needa to be bigger. If I were to yank the sub arms off, the issue would pretty much be dealt with. Besides, with how the hips are designed, you couldn't actually fit a person that low in its body.
Those zombies are some of the better sculpted ones I have. The pile I have is actually two sets. One has the blobby looking obes that are fairly generic looking. The other set has better proportions and a wider variety of zombie types.

I'm loving that Pathfinder Orc. I might have to pick that one up. Is that a Reaper Pathfinder figure? I wonder if Reaper does Black Friday.... Guy with a red beret and HMG looks great also, as does that orange and white mech - a real anime feel to it due to the palette choice.

Yep, that guy's a Reaper Pathfinder figure. Not sure if they do a Black Friday sale. But, Reaper is generally pretty affordable anyway.
I've always liked Heavy Gear's designs. Probably because they're so heavily inspired by anime designs. The Thunderhammer though reminds me a bit more of something out of a video game rather than an anime. It looks like it should be a boss in a shmup or something out of Front Mission.
GrimDork wrote:Thats some great stuff lately RAICHO RAICHO..
Thanks Grimdork. You'll be pleased to know I've been doing more work on the Raicho tonight. He should be done pretty soon, actually.
You'll note I yanked out the operator sub arms. They were just too small. I figure that like this, it's at least plausible that a pilot is in the upper torso. It'd just be more mecha than powered armor now. Just a bit more paintwork to do. I also filled in some mistakes caused by my overzealous use of glue on those ribbons on its waist. I also filled in a small gap sculpted into the abdominal plate. With the arms gone, that gape made it look very weird, so I just filled it in. I think it'll look a bit better now with that gap filled in. Oh, and that base he's on did come with him. So, that means this is a more recent release of the Raicho.
Though I'm sure most people aren't that interested, I did some more 15mm work. Finished up my militia for starters.
I'm really going to need to get some more militia. They really need a command element.
I also got half of my South African troops finished. The other half will be finished tomorrow.
Along with these, I got a whole bunch of stuff dipped today, including a Bulldog variant of the Buffel to go with my South Africans. It's kind of funny. My dad doesn't like 15mm AT ALL because it's such a small scale, but he's really into these South African figures. He keeps saying that next time we go to Brookhurst, he's going to pick up a tank for them.

Firstly I have been following this thread for a while and most of the time what I thought someone has always posted before me, so without wanting to repeat someone else I never had the need to post before now.
However after seein your rather splendid 15mm troops I had to say something, especially after thinking they would be of no interest to anyone.
Love the colour scheme and you have managed to pick out all the available detail nicely, however by chance can I ask a favour I don't suppose you have any 1/64 scale dicast cars you could stand one next to ?
I am trying to work out if they would work (15mm) for hangers and milita on my vehicles or would they look to small ?

Post by: Barzam
Hey, even if you're just repeating what others have said, I don't mind at all. It's encouraging, if nothing else.
What scale is 1/64th? Would those be Hot Wheels/Matchbox size? Unfortunately, I don't have any die-cast cars at all. I've got Transformers though, if that'd help? If you can give me an approximation of how big those are, I can check if I've got any Transformers that clock in around the same size.
As for my comment about people not caring about 15mm, the only stuff I ever see people doing in that scale is Flames of War, and even then, it's usually just the commission guys who post them. It seems like most people tend to just want to paint or comment on 40k. That's actually why I try to branch out into different lines and scales. It gets some variety up on Dakka. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and I finished painting my Raicho. I see I need to touch up the decal on its right pectoral a bit more though. That aside, he's ready for dipping.
I actually just dipped a bunch of stuff over the weekend. So, my goal is to finish that stuff up before Thanksgiving.

Well in future I will post even if it does repeat someone else's post then, I just thought it could get a bit tiresome for you to read but if your happy with that then that's cool.
1/64 roughly but basically matchbox and hotwheels size cars, I am looking for some decent miniatures to use for gangs and milita to add to vehicles and these fit the bill rather nicely.
I know what you mean about anything out of the ordinary people don't really comment on which is a shame, there was a guy I followed on here converting larger scale vehicles into mad max style but gave up on here as he never got much feedback, real shame as the weathering and painting was great.
I must say I was not really into the smaller scales before but since route 666 it has changed my view and really opened my eyes to other formats and such now, however I have always looked at other concepts for conversions and such so not completely oblivious to other influences.
This was one of the reasons I followed your thread as there is always something different to see and encourages me to seek alternatives for my hobby, plus your painting style is interesting and has a very nice mat finish to it which I admire.
Raicho is a perfect example of this style I like the Asian styling of it very Anime, although could make a great Tau stand in LOL

They were just too small. All they did was prove my point about it being underscaled.

I think I saw that guy's stuff. I believe he started posting it in the Lead Adventures forum.
I've got some Spy Changers Transformers from the early 2000s Robots In Disguise line in my office at work. They were designed to be used as slot cars, so they're pretty much the same size as Matchbox cars. I'll grab a couple from my office and take some pics for you.

Okay, I grabbed a couple of those Transformers from work and snapped some shots with a South African soldier.
The cars are a tad on the large side. I think they could work, but the guys will look oddly small with them. However, I think what you'll want to look at is 1/72 figures, like Caesar Miniatures or Airfix. I've got a couple of Caesar's SAS guys hanging around my desk at work as well and they seem to scale nicely with these.
I also got 3 more South African soldiers done. I've only got one left and he would be finished as well, but I ran out of pennies to base them on.
Behind them is a South African Bulldog. The Bulldog is a variant of the Buffel APC that South African forces used in the Angola conflicts, the Border Wars, and the Rhodesian Bush War. The Bulldog variant was apparently used for airfield defense. I don't know why, but Peter Pig only makes the Bulldog variant. I don't really mind though. The Buffel series were neat looking vehicles. Very sci-fi. They're no longer used in South Africa, but a few other African countries still use them, like Sri Lanka.
Not the most inspired paintwork on the windshield, I'll admit, but I wanted to keep it simple. I'll probably go over with some gloss coating later to help it look a bit better.
Aside from those, I also finished up some Infinity figures. I'll probably photograph them when their bases are finished.

Thanks very much for that shame though as they seem a bit n the small side, looks like 20mm is the way I will have to go then
Yes I tried 1/72 but they don't have the bulk I want, I might have to sculpt some of my own by the looks of things.
Yours look great though and the bulldog pulls it together nicely, although I agree the gloss on the windshield might be a good idea and maybe some simple dust effect on the bottom half.

I'm thinking I won't be meeting my pledge to finish all of the figures I dipped before Thanksgiving. It's been a little slow going on them. But, I did finish most of the Infinity figures I'd dipped. The Reverend Healer got overlooked when I took the figures back to my work table. I suppose I'll work on her tonight after work. So, as proof, I have photos! If anyone wants more detailed shots, I'd be happy to post some. For now though, these pics that don't show any of the extra work I put into the figures aside from their bases will have to suffice!
My Janissary with his repaired rifle barrel and the remaining two Sekbans from the boxed set. I really like these three figures. Someday I'll have to actually use them in a game of... something. It doesn't even need to be Infinity, I'd just like to use them.
My Ragik hacker who will eventually wind up just being used as a plain-Jane rifle Ragik once I get the new hacker. It's because of that I refrained from painting glowy lights on his palm like I did with my Fusilier Hacker.
My Seed Soldiers. Most of the stuff I added, like their eyes and the lights on their gear aren't really visible in these shots. *sigh*
Lastly, you read that title right. I do indeed have an Iraqi Republican Guard officer. I actually have a squad of troops, too that I'll get to someday. The line they're from was called Dogs of War and I believe the company that made them was called Devil Dog Design Studio, or something to that effect. I haven't been able to find much of any info about them and very little comes up with searches. All I know is that the company that made them folded in the early 2000s and that the figures are kind of hard to come by. I got the officer and the troops at Brookhurst Hobbies, who still have a few blisters from the Dogs of War line left floating around. The sculpts are okay, but are very obviously hand done. They're also very much in the heroic scale, so there's melon heads and odd proportions a-plenty. Having actually finished the officer, I may finally have the urge to actually work on the troops.
It's a little hard to tell in the pic, but his webgear is actually a much lighter shade of green compared to the rest of his uniform. In person, it stands out much better against his uniform. The pic got kind of washed out a bit. Aside from that, I actually think I did a really good job on this guy. His paintjob is extremely simple, but for some reason he turned out looking really good.

It's weird, those guys are sculpted wearing full armor and clothing, but everyone follows Giraldez's example and paints it all as exposed skin. I'm pretty certain the only exposed bits are their mouths, feet, and hands. I painted their armor mostly tan, actually. The shadows just make it look browner than it actually is.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
I painted mine as a mix of armored plates and fleshy bits, basically the only part of them that isn't their own home-grown is the rifle. I like both approaches though, obviously not at the same time, but both work.

I kind of prefer the idea of them being more techy. That's also why I painted my EI constructs as full on machines. Automatically Appended Next Post: I intended to finish some more figures tonight and work on a new APC I got, but the cold weather seems to be keeping my paints and glue from drying in anything resembling a timely manner. So, that leaves me further behind on finishing up those 28mm figures. That goal of actually completing them before Thanksgiving is a definite bust, now. But, I should be able to make considerable progress on the new APC tomorrow. With luck, I may even get it nearly finished in one day (keeping fingers crossed).
For now, I went back and retouched the Bulldog APC. Lone Dirty Dog was right, a drybrush of a lighter color was definitely needed. I went over it with Vallejo's Iraqi Sand. I treally makes it pop now, though the picture doesn't show it at all. I also glossed the windshield. I think it looks much better this way.
Yesterday, I also finished painting my Khurasan Miniatures GOTA Clan infantry. I'd posted one a little while back as a test run. I wasn't happy with how the head turned out as I'd wanted to accentuate the gas mask more. So, I did what Dwartist had done with the studio scheme and used the same color as the uniform, white in this case. I like that it accentuates the gas mask, like I wanted, but I'm just not entirely sure about it. I'm actually kind of leaning towards going back to doing the helmets in black. I also changed the rifle color so that it won't blend into the uniform quite so much.
I like these guys a lot and I was planning on getting some more of them, but with the release of their new 22nd Century line, I'm starting to rethink that idea. The Asian forces in that line have a very similar look, but with some extremely nice looking sculpts. Much sharper looking than these, and these are way nicer than the pics make them out to be. Their overall uniform design is very similar to this as well, but with more of a real world look to them and a bit less sci-fi. I'm thinking I may just build an army of those guys instead.

Today was a success! I built and painted my Armadillo APC from Clearhorizon Miniatures. I'd been wanting this thing since Mr. Harold showed it off months ago on Dakka.
I love the idea of a sci-fi halftrack. You pretty much never see that! For a 15mm vehicle, it's quite chunky and even has an opening rear hatch. I also magnetized the turret so it can rotate freely. As you can see, I went with a desert scheme and a very simple camo job on this. I've been wanting to do a tan/green camo job for a while, but none of the greens I had worked right. They were all too dark. This one turned out perfect! If I ever get one of Clearhorizon's dropships, I'll be using this scheme again, though I'm thinking I may do a yellow wash instead of a brown one. My plan for this vehicle is that it's going to be used by my White Dragon Marine Tactical Units whenever I get them.
As you can see here, it's a bit bigger than their Nemesis Scout Vehicle, too.
I picked up a squad of Sons of Rasputin Soldats from Warzone about a month or so ago from the consignment case at the FLGS. From what I was told, they'd belonged to one of the staff members who didn't feel like getting much further than priming them black. They were cheap so I grabbed them on a whim, as I tend to do. One just as much of a whim, today I actually painted one of them up!
I whipped him up in about two hours or so. I decided to continue the Prussian influenced scheme that I used on my SOR Commisar, but the way this guy's sculpted, you can't see too much of his actual uniform. I'm rather surprised by the sculpt. It's ugly as feth and has terrible proportions, yet it's actually really well sculpted. The one downside is that the other figures I'd purchased are all in the same pose. A little bit more variety would've been nice. And, on yet another whim, I'm actually expanding these guys. While ordering a set of Heavy Gear minis from Noble Knight, I also grabbed a Soldat Sergeant and a heavy weapons Soldat, both for about $1 each. Can't argue with prices like that! For some reason though, the Earth Tribes line seem to be the easiest and cheapest figures to find. Is it just because they're so ugly or what?

Your Soldat is entirely made of a gun, shoulder pads and boots.
The Warzone stuff tends to be 2 sculpts per blister, so there's probably another set in the opposite pose that I'm assuming the original owner still has. You ought to pester him next time you go in.
He'll probably sell them to you directly if you're interested, and he's looking to sell stuff.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'm very pleased with how the Armadillo turned out and I'm also very pleased with my Sons of Rasputin. I would be posting a pic of some more stuff I've worked on and purchased (got some AT-43 on Black Friday), but my camera's battery is dead, so I've got to wait for it to recharge. If I can drag myself out of bed early enough, I might be able to get pics up in the morning.
Tamburlaine, you're wrong, they're about 30% knee pads as well.
I did a little bit of research and looked over the figures I'd picked up again. They've been sitting in a box since I got the Soldats, so I hadn't really even looked at them. It seems that there's two sculpts for the basic infantry and Tamburlaine is right, they were sold 4 per blister with two of each sculpt. There's two right handers, and two left handers. I wasn't even paying attention when I bought them because it was a good deal, but it turns out I actually purchased 6 of them. Three of each sculpt! So, I actually got more than what came in the blister and I got them all for $1 apiece! So, when my officer and heavy weapons guy arrive, I should have a nice little set of troops. I also happen to have completed two more of them today, so I'm halfway through them. With luck and some focus, I might actually be able to finish them before I leave for Japan later this week.

Wow, I'm almost up to 1000 pictures in my gallery! Just a few more to go.
Anyway, I promised some pictures. Obviously they didn't come up in the morning. I was just too comfortable. But, I can share them now.
Over the weekend, I built my MW-01 kit from Gundam: The Origin.
It's a pretty good kit, aside from the cabling on it. For some reason, Bandai opted to use rubber hoses instead of hard plastic ones. I don't know why they did that, but they're an absolute pain in the ass. The damn things just don't want to stay plugged in. Being rubber, I'm also afraid they're going to wind up deteriorating fairly quickly. I think it could work very easily as a construction mech in games scaled between 15mm - 10mm without any issues. If one wanted to use it in 28mm games though, you'd have to do some modding. I think it would actually be fairly easy to hollow out the chest and fit in a pilot figure though.
Here's the AT-43 figures I picked up at Brookhurst on Black Friday.
I had no clue that the UNAS soldiers had swappable heads. They don't swap very easily, but it's nice that they gave the option. I love those Shock Tac Arms though. Flamer and pile driver? I'm sure I'll be using those in a game sometime soon.
I've started receiving some of the gifts I'd ordered for other family members as well. One particularly large order had a little item for me tucked away in it. I got a Camel cargo truck 2-pack from Heavy Gear.
So far, I've only got the first truck done and built a little papercraft cargo container for it. I wish it were a bit bigger so I could more easily use it with 15mm stuff. I know, it's meant for 1/144 scale gaming, but still. It's just a bit too small. Won't stop me from using it as terrain though!
For those interested, here's how it scales up with a 15mm figure.
I mentioned I painted up two more Sons of Rasputin. I did these guys last night.
You'll note, that's both of the standard infantry poses.
Speaking of Sons of Rasputin, Look what Noble Knight delivered to me today!
I got my heavy weapons guy and my sergeant. Now, too late do I realize that the sergeant is a Shock Soldat, not a regular one. I guess those guys use grenade launchers or something (it looks like the kind the Brotherhood use, anyway). The funny thing is, the sergeant seems to be almost indistinguishable from the regular guys. The actual differences are extremely minor. The sergeant has a grenade on his belt and his left hand is in a slightly different position. As far as I can tell, that's the only difference. Well, he'll certainly stand out from his regular troops now, because I'm sure as hell planning on using him a regular sergeant. The third blister is from Kryomek. They're something called Cobra Marines. I think they were actually from another line of megacorporation soldiers that went under and was absorbed into the Kryomek line. I'm not sure how I'm going to paint them yet though. These three, along with another Heavy Gear set were my gifts to myself for the holidays.
Now, one other thing. I've seen people do it before and wanted to try it for myself. I went through the Matchbox section at Toys R Us while I was picking up a present for my nephew and grabbed a plane to try converting into something for my 15mm figures.
Matchbox has some very interesting vehicles, if you take the time to look through them. This funky little VTOL reminds me a lot of the Cobra Firebat from GI Joe for some reason. I'm going to try stripping the paint, if I can, mounting it on a flying base, and repainting it into something a bit more military. I'm actually leaning towards a scheme similar to the Armadillo's. I'd like to arm it as well, but I don't have any spare weapons that would be small enough for it.
Take a look at some of the crazy aircraft that they make though.
There's a few that look like they came from SHMUPs, one that looks like one of the gunships from Avatar, and several full on Drones that they put clear cockpits onto for some reason. Some of these things would be seriously badass gaming pieces with a fresh coat of paint.

I'm finishing up a few projects here before I go to Japan on Thursday. There probably won't be many pics or updates on here while I'm away unless I can get some wifi. Don't expect any decent pics though, since If I can post anything, it'll be from my phone.
For now, I got around to finishing my Soviet Sniper from a while back.
And I finished my Reverend Healer.
And no, I don't intend to paint her eyes. If I try, I'm just going to screw them up.
I also finished my final three basic Sons of Rasputin Soldaten.
Funny thing, while looking at some old Warzone artwork today, I found some of these guys. Those round things on the sides of their masks? I thought they were some kind of funky vents, like the giant vents on the sides of my Pilgrims' helmets, but no. I learned today that those are actually supposed to be tubes attached to their respirator masks. That makes them look a bit less doofy when they're painted a different color than the rest of the mask, but I've grown accustomed to them looking like weird vents, so I'm going to keep them this way. I'll probably work on the Sergeant and the heavy weapons guy when I get back. Here's all of the figures I've finished so far.
Highlord Tamburlaine, you can expect to fight them in the near future.

Yeah, the new ones came out the day we left. They're certainly not as cool looking as the box art, but they're pretty neat. I left the decals off of the white on e. I'm thinking I might try painting it.
I'll try to post pics of the Star Wars figures as well. They're nice little display figures. Their legs and torsos are metal while their arms and heads are plastic. Articulation is limited to the neck, waist, and shoulders. Phasma's cape is removable as well.

They're from a new cheap line of simple robot kits from Bandai called Frame Robo. I've heard there's going to be a tie-in anime, but it wasn't an official announcement, so we'll see about that. The robots are mostly named after planets and even have planets in their torsos for some reason. The two I got are Amaterasu Frame (white) and Saturn Frame (silver). Saturn Frame is obviously based on Saturn. Amaterasu I would think is supposed to represent the sun, but based on the colors of the planet in its chest, I think it might actually be Uranus. The spikes on it are actually part of a large halo-like ring on its back.

No Amaterasu is their Sun Goddess in Japan.
68139
Post by: Barzam
Yeah, I know. But the colors don't correspond to the sun. It's a purpke-tinged pearl white with purple trim. The planet in its chest is a mixture of blue, purple and green, not colors one thinks of in relation to the sun. Plus, it has the ring. So, the colors and the ring seem to suggest either Neptune or Uranus.

Great line of 15mm and Infinity stuff you've chewed through in the last couple of weeks, but that WarZone stuff... wow I remember those guys. Awful, awful figures, yet you've somehow managed to turn them into something that wouldn't induce illness if I had to face them on the table. Also, congratulations on making it forward to the not-too-distant past.

Thanks, those Earth Tribes are really ugly designs all around. I'm really pleased that I managed to make them look relatively acceptable. I have two more figures to do, and then I'm done with them.
Once I get back, I've still got a bunch of models to build, then I'll return to my minis. I'll very likely return to the 15mm stuff. I actually picked up some Tomica stuff that looks like it might work as some 15mm vehicles.

Wow, I have just achieved a milestone. I've now uploaded 1000 pics to my gallery!
I haven't been very productive this week. Jet lag has had me in its grips for most of the week still. I think I'm finally getting over it though. I managed to complete two whole figures though! And I mean complete. No half-finished, unbased, un-dipped stuff. No,no. I actually totally finished these two in one night, start to finish.
First up, I cracked open those Kryomek Cobra Marines and got to work on them. First one is done.
I had a hard time choosing between doing these guys in light green or white. White, obviously eventually won out. I'm not disappointed, either. It's just very time consuming to paint these guys white, so I'll be doing the other two very slowly. Pics of these guys and, for that matter, about half of the Kryomek line are rather hard to come by. It seems that the only pics of these Cobra Marines floating around are the rather bad ones that were done for Kryomek USA's web catalog, which have a rather ugly, somewhat glossy looking red paintjob. It's weird that I seem to be the only other person on the net to actually post a picture of one of these guys fully painted and based.
The other figure I painted was a Cygnar Tempest Gun Mage Officer that I picked up from the FLGS on Wednesday after work. He was in the consignment case and cost me all of $5.
I was looking for something that was fantasy/steampunk-ish, but not full on medieval that I could use as a player created character for Dungeon Saga. I was actually sort of leaning towards this guy while looking around online and I just managed to luck out that he was sitting in the case waiting for me. I'm planning to run him as a human (obviously) demon hunter. Other ideas I was toying with were an elf warrior (probably Gamezone or Warmachine) or a human cleric (my Severius figure). I may visit those ideas in the future, but for now, I'll be playing as this guy. I need to figure out a name for him still.
My plan for the weekend: more Sons of Rasputin!

Well done on that Gun Mage!
I almost bought him myself, opting instead for another Khadorian with a big hat and a big belly.
Did you read the rules for Dungeon Saga yet? Because I certainly haven't....

Somehow Cygnar hasn't really won me over as much as the other factions. I only have the three models from their faction, this guy and the two Sword Knights. I think you ought to just try out painting a couple of WarmaHordes solos, Azazelx. I'd love to see how you would paint them.
And no, I haven't read the DS rules yet. Just the character creation parts

I achieved my weekend hobby goals. I got both Sons of Rasputin finished. I've completed my Shock Sergeant and my HMG trooper. One of these days I'll have to pick up the proper Soldat Sergeant and the standard bearer.
Soldat Shock Sergeant
It took me a little while to figure out what his weapon is. It looks a lot like the grenade launchers that some of the Brotherhood units carry. But then, it has a hose connecting it to a tank on his back, so it couldn't be a grenade launcher. It certainly isn't a flamer since there's no igniter anywhere. It turns out that it's actually a chem-thrower. Apparently the Shock Soldaten are actually a unit armed entirely with chem-throwers! Until I get a proper regular Soldat Sergeant though, this guy will have to do the job. I made sure to give him some red facings so he stands out just a bit more from the regular soldiers.
And here's the Soldat with HMG.
This guy must be a giant. He's sculpted in a kneeling pose, but he's the same height as the other figures. If he stood up, he would be towering over the rest of them. Then again, that HMG is enormous as well, so this guy must have some crazy upper body strength to heft that thing around. Even though he isn't using it, I like the fact that they actually bothered to sculpt a bipod on the gun.

You have some Rasputins as well? I'd like to see someone else's take on them. Shame they never got a resculpt. Their designs could be quite cool.
I actually somehow accidentally downloaded the Dark Eden expansion book and read through it. That was right up my alley. Grimdark post apocalyptic? Sign me right up. It's a shame though, the book only talks about the tribes in Europe and North Africa, completely leaving out Asia, the Middle East, and the entire Western Hemisphere. It's also a shame that the Megacorp units listed never got made. Some of them looked really cool, like the Wolverines and the Fallen Angels.

Dark Eden left me somewhat cold. Too much Mad Max in a setting that was 1930s in space to me.
Only painted the Captain? Hero?
I have to deal with the others but they are kind of low in my priotities.

Hey, that looks pretty good. I like the earth tone look to went with. Makes him look grittier as opposed to my flashier looking guys. Very nice job. But yeah, that is a huge difference in sculpt quality between him and that Imperial guy.
I wound up painting some more 15mm figures this week. Got some more work done on my Africans.
I've added a command element to my Hardened Militia.
These are the three main sculpts for them. I'll be doing other ethnicities for them as well.
I also painted up some African Militia Fighters.
Interesting sculpts on these guys. Their clothing is so haphazard. The guy with the vest is actually sculpted only wearing one shoe. The guy with the green and purple shirt and the red and yellow striped shirt is sculpted barefoot. The guy I gave the trackpsuit pants and pink shirt to actually seems to be sculpted wearing a tracksuit. I figure with these guys, I'll try and do some garish and clashing colors on them. It'll certainly make them look more individual.
Lastly, I have a random lone zombie.
I'd painted these figures 4 at a time and just grabbed mostly at random from my pile of primed 15mm figures. So, this wound up being the only zombie I grabbed. Oddly, this guy doesn't seem to have an wounds sculpted onto him. I think he'll make a nice frightened civvie, so I'm going to do that with one of the other two copies of this sculpt I have.

I feel like my output has been pretty low since I got back from Japan. I've only managed a few figures since my last update.
I got some more 15mm done.
Just more Hardened Militia Command and another zombie.
I got the second Cobra Marine finished. I believe this guy is carrying a plasma rifle.
And I finally got around to finishing my AE-WWII OSS Agent.
I do rather like this guy. He's certainly got a dynamic pose. The base was one of my first attempts at using one of GW's newer technical paints. I forget the name, but it's supposed to be used for making bases look like concrete or asphalt. It dries slowly, but I can see myself using this stuff a lot. There's also supposed to be one for making mud. I'll have to pick that one up as well sometime.

The leaping pistol dude reminds me of Branden Frasier in the Mummy movies.
Your GW technical stuff sounds similar to the Valejo earth tone stuff I have that looks like peanut butter in a jar. Might be more manageable than the stuff I have though.
I wasn't super happy with the cracked earth one. My results weren't very good. Very flat and not very parched. How'd you get yours to turn out nice?
68139
Post by: Barzam
I just glob the Argellan Earth onto the base. It's like Nutella, the more you slather onto it, the better.
The basing stuff is apparently a texture paint, not a technical. The stuff is called Astrogranite. Make sure you don't apply it with a brush though. I expect it would totally kill your bristles.

I found a couple of HLJ boxes awaiting me when I came home today. the Gundam kits my brother bought for me for the holidays, the Dougram mech I bought for myself.
That Dougram kit ought to look familiar to old school Battletech fans. Here's a better look at it. This is one of the shots on the side of the box. I hope mine will at least look that nice when I'm done building it.
The kit is 1/72 scale, so I think using it in 28mm wargames will be a bit of a stretch. It's put out by Max Factory of all companies, which is not exactly known for their plastic models. Here's hoping for a decent build.
I found this thing for .99 at Brookhurst last weekend. I figures, what the hell. It's cheap and it's in a scale I've been collecting.
It's some US mech from Gear Krieg. It's in its "vehicle" mode, so it's all folded up. It has some tiny little manipulator arms on the front of it, too. I wonder if anyone has statted these things for Gruntz?
Lastly, I got off my duff and actually got this ISS figure painted today.
He's from Megacon Games' MERCS line. This guy belongs to the ISS faction, which is based in Greece and specialized in sea power. ISS is supposed to be a powerful megacorp since they pretty much have a monopoly on sea-based trade. As you might imagine, they're supposed to be quite skilled at maritime warfare as well. This particular guy is one I've never seen any painted pictures of online. He's supposed to be the faction's demolitions guy, but I think he looks more like a grenadier since he's carrying what appears to be a grenade in his right hand (although it looks more like a Thermal Detonator from Star Wars). I'd heard this faction suffered from major QC issues early on with a lot of the figures have extremely soft details. ISS was supposed to be the first faction they digitally sculpted and they had all kinds of problems with it. I think this guy was hand sculpted though, so while some of his armor details are very fine and shallow, he doesn't suffer nearly as badly as some of the examples I've seen of the rest of his faction. It's a shame too, because they have a really cool design. Supposedly, when they transitioned them into plastic for MERCS Recon, they managed to actually get the detail even better than they did on the re-done metal versions. I'm supposed to be getting their expansion, so we'll see.

Sadly, nothing yet. But, if I can actually get more zombies painted up, I'll be able to use my stuff in All Things Zombie: Mass Hysteria as well as Red Ops 5. I also just picked up Gruntz. I'll have to find some way to pass a copy of that on to Highlord Tamburlaine since, from what I hear, it's based on the same game engine as Warmachine/Hordes. If I can actually get that ruleset down, I will be able to use damn near everything 1:100 scale and anything close to it as well.

Thanks guys. I do really like that Man Rodi, too. It's a neat design and, like most of Iron Blooded Orphans' designs, it isn't very typical of Gundam.
Tonight, I worked on one of the two Naffatun I'd assembled and primed earlier in the week. I've got all the base coats down and now I can set her aside to await dipping. On to the dude tomorrow. Maybe. Pic is kind of poor though.

I think thats skin tone underneath hair, I could be wrong. I think the brown orange makes it look lighter than what it really could be, not that the color is wrong, just a trick of the eye.

Post by: Barzam
Like I said, bad pic. It's her skin tone and for some reason she's got long, flowing hair blowing about. Because that's a great idea when you're using a flamethrower. I need to darken her skin and hair still.

Yeah it looks like hair now, my bad, I must have been out of it this morning. Skin tone does look like skin after a second look, just pale.

Nah. It was a crappy picture. Here's a slightly better one.
Obviously, the second guy is done. My lighting at home kind of sucks though. Too yellow. As a result, you can't see that I did in fact darken her skin tone and her hair. I've retouched the brown parts on her a bit and added some highlighting to the gray parts on the guy's armor (too lazy to add it to the girl's).

To me, they feel like they should be out fighting zombies, what with all of that armor and the flamethrowers. I've got some boxes of stuff coming, so I'm not sure when I'll be getting to the other two Naffatun. Hopefully soon though.
Tonight, I finally went back and repainted that Afterlife Republic Commando I'd shown a while back. I caved and went with pretty much the same colors as my Republic Grenadiers.
I lost some detail on account of having to strip his previous paintjob and I did a fairly bad job of it. Whenever I get around to the others, that shouldn't be much of an issue.
I also painted two other things today. I painted that Gear Krieg tank, but that needs a few more touches before its done. And, I painted the new Reaper figure, Tess McFadden. The name means nothing to anyone, I'm sure, but she's sculpted by Kev White of Hasslefree fame, so I had to get her. She's a nice, simple little figure.

Got a couple of guys to show off tonight. For some reason, I've had several Kickstarters and orders all arrive this week. Yesterday I got my White Dragon Marine Tactical Unit stuff (which is awesome!), and my Mantic Abyssals for KOW (though still no sign of DBX). Today saw the arrival of my VSF Prussians from Brigade Games, who were amazingly all stuffed into an extremely tiny box, my Clearhorizon order, and my Maelstrom's Edge game. So, my pile of shame grows ever larger. I probably could cut down on it faster if we were actually having warmer weather here. The cold weather seems to make my paint want to dry really slowly, so about all I can do is complete one or two figures a day, if even that.
Today though, I did actually complete (mostly) two figures. Since the Abyssals were the new hotness that arrived, last night I got to work on the Champion I'd ordered and one of the grunts. Well, the champion is all done, aside from some effects on his left arm and his basing. I have to say, my initial experiences with Mantic's metals from Deadzone were kind of "meh," but this guy was actually a very good casting. Details were all sharp, no miscasting, no mold lines even!
He came with an alternate right arm wielding a sword and an alternate head with different horns and a slightly dopey expression. I like the evil smirk this one had though.
I tried taking the photo in my hall since the light isn't yellow in there, but while the colors are more accurate, the trade off was that it also obliterated all of the shading details I put on him. His paintjob isn't so flat in person. I used washes and highlighting on him, it just doesn't show up in this pic.
The other figure I mostly finished up is my Fox Rogue from Oathsworn's Burrows and Badgers line. This guy was in the first Kickstarter and I'm only just now really getting to him. I still haven't even touched the freebies that came with him. At least I did manage to finish him before the second Kickstarter stuff arrived.
Only thing I have left to do on him is to seal him and add some flocking to his base. When the KS2 stuff arrives, I believe I ordered a necromancer bat and the bounty hunter set, which will give me an otter Landsnecht, a pug bounty hunter (I'd requested a pug from him in the first one, so awesome he made one), another fox, this time a brigand, and a beagle tracker. I don't recall if I got any others though. I know I'd wanted the tortoise legionary and the drunken ferret, but I don't recall if I actually got them or not.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad the fox turned out good. I was dithering about painting him for a long time.
Well, I promised more stuff today. Shock of shocks, I got no basing done. I did however finish that other Abyssal I built and I did finish a 15mm figure.
I'd built one of the plastic Lower Abyssal Warriors at the same time I started on their champion, just to see how they turned out. I'm pleased to say, the plastic Lower Abyssals are quite nice.
I believe that axe is actually a part of their command upgrade, so I suppose I'll have to do a command set and a regular set. My plan is, since I have four sprues of these guys, one set with be melee + command and the other will be ranged + command. Melee guys get to be red, ranged guys get to be blue. Here's how the Lower Abyssal compares to the champion.
You can sort of tell that I used two different shades of red for their skin tones, with the champion being darker. I wanted him to stand out, but not look out of place with the others. I figured maybe their skin gets darker as they age, so it makes sense for the champ to have darker skin.
The other figure I completed tonight was one of the figures from White Dragon Miniatures' Marine Tactical Unit Kickstarter. This particular unit is equipped with a Talos Powered Armor.
The detailing on him is really impressive. It may be hard to tell from my photos, but I would say he's almost as detailed as a full 28mm figure. I love the design, too. I hope that they eventually make a 28mm version of these guys. I'll be working on more from that Kickstarter in between other projects.
Here's just a little size comparison for him against a more average sized 15mm figure from Peter Pig and one of the more true 15mm sized guys from the Rangers' Project.
As you can see, the Talos leans more towards the true scale end of the spectrum. This is true for the rest of the line and the regular troops are proportioned more like the Rangers' Project guys than the Peter Pig ones.
For the MTU stuff, I have a squad of Talos units, 5 regular Marine fireteams, an Armadillo mobile shield/support 'bot, a Proteus Combat mecha with chaingun, and the almighty Fiddler combat mecha. I'm hoping I can get on to these units soon.

I was pretty impressed with the castings on those 15mm guys.
The powered armor turned out well. Hopefully those ammo belts weren't too much of an issue to glue on. They were tiny!
Out of curiosity, what color did you use for the lower abyssal's skin? I'm guessing a Vallejo one, but which color? I like it and was thinking of a similar scheme.

That specific paint is Vallejo Games Color Bloody Red. It's the same one I used on my Mechanicus. The ammo belts were no issue at all. They had little pegs on them, so they plugged right in.
GrimDork wrote:Abyssals look good. That pose armored guy is beefy compared to his 15mm peers.
I should hope so, he's supposed to be wearing Power Armor. Sadly, good looking power armor in 15mm isn't that common. Ground Zero Games makes quite a lot of styles, but they're kind of ugly, especially compared to the Talos.
Miguelsan wrote:I love that fox. I know some friends that would kill for one like yours Barzam for rpg purposes.

Glad you like him. Your friend is going to have to wait, it seems. Oathsworn for some reason doesn't have any product on their site. They should try contacting Oathsworn though. Maybe they can get lucky and get in a late pledge on the second Burrows and Badgers Kickstarter? All of the figures from the first one were being offered in the second one as well, so there's a chance he could get one. Or, I suppose there's always Dark Sword Miniatures. They have plenty of anthropomorphic foxes, though they're a bit more cartoony looking.
I didn't get much actual painting done today. I wound up doing a lot of greenstuffing of bases and prepping a pile of Prussians. I did paint one of the basic marines from the White Dragon Kickstarter.
As you can see, I'm going to be keeping their colors very simple and not go in for a lot of extra detail. The regular troops seem to be wearing some form of light powered armor as well, so I don't mind them being fairly monochrome. I'd go nuts trying to paint in all of the small details though. For that extra bit of color, I'm going to color code the five fireteams. I'll be starting with Red Team.

I would've had these pics posted sooner (along with more work done), but I got laid out by a migraine. I don't get them often, but when I do, I'm done. They just take me out. I'll attempt to get more work done this weekend though and hopefully actually finish things.
I'm taking part in Azazelx's challenge to paint a unit every month from January to June. Since my pile of shame is so large, I had plenty to choose from. I've chosen to tackle my Spartan Games stuff though, in particular my Dystopian stuff. I have and Antarctic air fleet, naval fleet, and several blisters of ground units along with a box of Dystopian Legions Prussian troops. I figured I would go for the Prussians first since I know how I'm going to paint them. The box contained six figures, so that's the unit I have to complete before the end of the month. Once I'm done with them, I'll be moving onto some non-Prussian things. But, since I am working on them, I'm limiting myself to only working on Prussian models right now, which includes some non-Dystopian Legions Prussian soldiers and a Warjack.
So far, here's where I am with my Dystopian guys.
Aside from sealing and glossing their helmets, these guys are done.
I had also ordered some Steampunk Prussian infantry with rebreathers from Brigade Games and they're currently a side job. They're pretty small and surprisingly, they fit all six of them in a tiny little jewelry box. It looked like the type you'd have earrings in or something. So far, I've only really completed one of them, and that's the officer.
There's a few more touch up things I need to do with him. Namely, seal him, gloss his helmet and goggles, and add some moss to his base. That aside, he's done. Once I actually do that though, I'll post more photos of him.
Lastly, I mentioned a Warjack. Well, what good is doing Steampunk stuff if you aren't going to have some kind of steam powered doohickies? I decided what they needed was a robot, and Warmachine has the best looking steampunk robots. On Highlord Tamburlaine's suggestion, I chose a Mercenary Warjack for them. In this case, this is called a Talon, and he's a light type Warjack.
He's nearly done as well. Just need to finish working on his base, paint his shield, and then seal the paint. I decided to go with a paintjob that mimics the uniform of a Prussian soldier. I even have the red stripe on the sides of his legs (which it's hard to tell, but they're painted in the same gray as the soldiers' pants). Hell, I even went the extra mile on this one and painted the little gauges on his engine.
Once I'm done with these guys, I'll have a nice little skirmish force. I'd still like to add on a few units though. I'd like to get a couple of Jaegers so they can have some marksmen and I'd like a shooty Warjack to go with them as well. But, that's for a future purchase.

I sent you a PM with the link. I think you actually have plenty of options to choose from if you wanted to join in. Or, at least you did prior to your clearing stuff out on ebay. The Prussians look great. Is the Brigade stuff 28mm? And is the Spartan Games stuff like 32 or 34mm? I like the Warjack as an add-on to the Prussians as well. I doubt I would have thought of that myself, but it works well.
And Highlord - join us!

You're actually pretty spot on with the scales there, Azazel. I'd say the Dystopian stuff is probably around 32mm or so. I know they don't advertise them as being 28mm anymore. It's a shame that they didn't actually make them 28mm. I love the looks of some of the units in the game.
Anyway, the Prussians are done, I've achieved my goal for January.
Now I just need to finish basing the Brigade Prussians.
While I was waiting for the sealants to dry yesterday, I went ahead and finally started working on an Afterlife figure I've had primed for months. I finally settled on a color scheme and actually painted her up pretty quick.
This is a female variant of the Spectre Operative for the Unity Council. I think these guys are supposed to be stealth infiltrators or something, but none of them have silencers for their guns, so I'm not entirely sure. Still, they look pretty cool. The stuff on her back might be a little hard to make out, but she's got some spare mags for the rifle and a barrel extension for the gun as well. The regular male versions have at least one guy with the extension attached and I believe there's some head choices that have the goggles opened. I love it when Joel puts all of these neat little details on his figures.

The finished Prussians look great! The gloss on their helmets looks good - a subtle but effective touch.
The afterlife model looks cool as well. The hexagons make her kind of look like an Infinity figure and kind of like she's wearing turtle armour, but cool nonetheless. Good to see a female not wearing boob plate as well.

These may not be Mechanicus, but they do have a robot! Now, I did say I'd had the other set of Prussians finished. I'm just slow posting them. As Highlord Tamburlaine can attest though, I most certainly had these finished before the end of the week.
My finished Steampunk Prussian army
Troops
Officer
And the Talon Warjack
Now I can start working on other stuff. I already finished working on my test piece for next month's part of Azazelx's challenge. I think I'm happy with it. We'll see how I feel about it once it's actually dried though. I'm also working on a Menoth Dervish Warjack right now. If I'm industrious on Sunday, I should be able to finish it.

Hey, progress! I got things painted today!
So, first thing's first, I got to work on a test scheme for my Covenant of Antarctica armies. Since I'll be doing my Skorpios Bombard unit for February's challenge, I figured I will cheat a bit and test my idea out on one of them.
I'm undecided about keeping the bases clear for the ground units. When Spartan sculpted their walkers, they filled in what should be empty spaces on them. So, the spaces between the legs are all filled in, and on a clear base, that fact just feel accentuated to me. So yeah, not sure about what I want to do with the bases yet. As for the scheme, I wanted to go with something camo, but not the white heavy scheme the studio used. So, I basically just did the same scheme without white. I think I'm happy with it though. Generally, I'll be applying the camo to the armor panels on the vehicles. On the Skorpios, there's not too many, so they'll actually be pretty easy to paint. But, larger units and the various ships I have will be more difficult.
I also painted a Menoth Dervish light warjack today.
I like the Dervish/Devout design. Out of all of the Warjacks, they look the most like mechanical knights. I just wish there was a bit more versatility in the sculpts. The Dervish is sculpted in a really awkward pose like he's going to do a slicing attack, but there's pretty much no movement in his legs. So, it just comes off looking really weird. The Devout, which shares the same general design is equally awkwardly posed. The devout is a spear/shield type Warjack, yet he's posed running rather than attacking or blocking as you would expect it to be. I think the Devout might also be the only Warjack posed running. I should also point out, I did alter the Dervish's pose a little. I reposed he right arm since stock, it's posed directly across its chest which was really in the way.
Something really weird about the Devout and Dervish sculpts though, despite the fact that both Warjacks use the same frame, neither figure shares a single part. It's really odd that they did that. Anyway, the Devout, which I've also reposed will be the next project.
While waiting for the Dervish to dry at various points, I also painted up a couple more 15mm Talos Power Armors.
These guys are armed with a grenade launcher and a machine gun. Apparently the first one I did was armed with a flamethrower. There's only one Talos left, and he's in line to get basecoats very soon.

Cool but I'm surprised you didn't go Landsknecht for the Prussian robots?

The 15mm dudes are neat, its and interesting scale.
Good stuff all round.

I think that if I had gone with a color scheme reminiscent of a Landsknecht, my intent would not have come through at all. It would have just looked like a colorful Warjack. It really isn't the look I was going for anyway. I wanted it to look like a Prussian soldier. Like something they might field alongside their infantry.
I've really been enjoying painting 15mm. I didn't think I would like it at all due to how small the figures are, but it really is fun. The fact that figures generally paint up quickly is an added bonus.

That was what I was thinking, you get to knock out some dudes who probably paint pretty quick, and then get to paint some aircraft and mechs to use in a system where they aren't unreasonably large for the size of game (looking at you 40k...). I guess 6mm pulls that off even better but then you don't get a lot of detail on your little dudes.

I like 15mm as a concept, but I've never known anyone who plays at that scale.

Hey, I don't know anyone who plays 15mm either. I'll just have to force Highlord Tamburlaine to learn.
I was hoping to have some new stuff to post tonight, but no dice. I've salvaged some of my old Menoth Warjacks that I'd started and never finished and got back to work on them. They should be done fairly quickly though since I was actually pretty far along on both already.
I've also been giving some thought on how I ought to go about making a KOW army. My desire is to do a demon army and a werewolf army. Demons would probably be pretty simple, just buy Mantic figures and Bones. Werewolves though will require a bit more thought. I'm quite certain The Herd is the way to go with them. I picked up some Warpwolf Skinwalkers from the FLGS along with a druid shaman over the weekend to slowly start my wolf army. I only just realized today though that I pretty much already have a werewolf army thanks to Wrath of Kings. So, along with my monthly projects, my new plan is to produce at least two wolves a month, starting next month.

If you don't mind the confrontation aesthetic, isn't that *the* way to get an affordable crapload of werewolves?
I think you are right regarding the herd, I forget what it is but herd werewolves are better somehow and they have a hero werewf option.

It's true that I could make an army quickly and fairly cheaply with the Confrontation prepaints, but, I already own a bunch of Wrath of Kings wolves. I'll do a count of them to see just how many I have. If I need more, which I kind of doubt, then I'll grab more Confrontation. Though, I do have a bunch of those wolves already as well.

That cream color is the reason my Menoth output is so slow. It's an absolute pain in the ass to paint. It's also the reason why I had abandoned this project partway through way back when I got him.
Azazelx wrote:Looking good. Is that a converted Warjack with the ball and chain?
Nope, he's stock. I believe I got him from the starter set/Battlegroup. But, he's also available in the Heavy Warjack 3-in-1 box.

Warjack looks good. Do not look forward to seeing you use it in any capacity whatsoever.
What did you use on the chrome parts? A mixture of different paints, I'm assuming, but what?
I don't think I have in metallics that light.

The silver is actually from a silver spray paint. I'd tried to speed up the painting a bit back when I originally worked on him. The coverage wasn't the best and despite being fairly light, it was also a very dull and matte.
I've been looking over the Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes rules, and yeah, this 'Jack may turn out to be kind of nasty in combat.

I wasn't feeling too good today, so I didn't get a whole lot done. I did however finish my Talos team and I painted the squad leader for Red Team.
Here's the full Talos team.
You get a flamer, grenade launcher, and 2 HMGs. Not too bad. I love their designs though. I really REALLY hope White Dragon makes some 28mm figures and does these designs the justice they deserve.
I also got my Oathsworn animals! So, I did not in fact get the drunken weasel. The only add-on I purchased was the bat necromancer. They tried to keep the animals mostly in scale with each other, so she's actually pretty small. Maybe next time we'll get a Megabat like I'd suggested. Freebies this time around were a scenery piece featuring a busted up badger statue and mouse adventurer sleeping on his pack.

This guy marks my seventh Menoth Warjack, and my eight total finished Warjack. All that's left is the Devout.
I'll work on the Devout a bit this week, probably and get working on this month's main challenge: The Skorpios Bombard.

Take a photo of all these Menoth jacks together.
I can't believe you've got that many now!

Okay, the Devout is done. This means all of my Menoth Warjacks are finished. This brings my grand total of Menoth 'Jacks to 8, and 9 Warjacks all together. As I mentioned when I posed the Dervish, I didn't like his running pose, so I reposed him. I think having him standing on a pile of rubble like that is more fitting to a shield wielding halbredier. As I understand it, these guys are actually supposed to be pretty good in-game as bodyguards for your warcasters. When I stat him up for SOBH though, he's probably going to wind up being a shield buster with that halbred. Piercing, Long Reach, and I'll probably give him some kind of advanced guarding ability since he's actually got the largest shield of my Menoth warjacks (next to the Vigilant, of course). He should be a pain in the butt for Highlord Tamburlaine to fight. Speaking of the Highlord, he asked for a pic of all 8 of my Menoth Warjacks together. The lighting isn't the best, but here you go. Click the pic to go to the gallery where you can zoom in on it.

I actually painted another Afterlife figure! Hurray!
This is Gabriela Aguilar, a Specter Operative for the Unity Council and a special character.
I am so pleased her eyes turned out decent. Here she is with the other operative I did.

So, this weekend I was supposed to work on my Skorpios Bombards. I did, but I didn't finish them. I kind of got distracted. See, my brother wanted to go to the FLGS and I can't leave the damn place without buying something. So, I purchased a Wold for my slowly-being-built Herd army and I bought a rather large Bones Fire Demon at half price because for some reason, somebody put the thing in the consignment case even though it was still in the blister and wasn't missing anything. No clue why they did that, but, I now have an Abyssal Archfiend for my slowly-being-built Abyssal army. Now, this caused a bit of a painting distraction. See, somehow I wound up pretty much painting the entire thing last night. There were just a couple small details that needed work today and he was finished.
The guy is big. He doesn't fit entirely into my rather small frame for photos.
He also towers above my other demons.
You can also see the skin color progression with the weaker, younger guy being brightest and the stronger, older ones being darker.

Wow that is a big daemon. It looks great, the skin colour progression is a great idea.
Also a shout for that camp cloak, great work.

Fancy work Barzam! That's a lota jacks! Big demon and sniper are cool too. I'll elaborate now that I have a proper keyboard at hand: That's a whole lot of 'Jacks! They all look great too I say that's a lot... but then I know one of the Retribution lists I looked at when I was flirting with the idea of picking up some WMH stuff had roughly 8 of the same Jack so... I guess it's not that many? Neat horde anyway! Sniper looks good, the eyes did come out nicely and the camo cloak is smooth and looks just right. Your Demon is awesome. The color choices are perfect, from the metals to the shade of red..spot on. And well executed, very nice piece in the end. That medium demon on the right, were those guys metal? I know they don't have a hard plastic kit right?

Damn, that was fast.
I guess I gotta go back and touch mine up as mine looks really similar to your now.
That was a crazy deal though.
Still tempted to go back and get those Finecast undead.

Thanks for the compliments, guys.
Surprisingly, the demon was pretty easy to paint. The hardest parts was the golds, ans that's because my golds have gotten a bit dried out.
Grim, the demon on the right is the Abyssal Champion. He is a metal figure. One of the nicer metals I've received from Mantic, actually.
Tamburlaine, yours is a bit different from mine. Yours looks to be wearing bone colored armor while mine is gold. You also gave yours a mane of fire. Your flame whip looks much brighter than mine. Mine also looks to have darker skun.
