Good work on the Stuntbot, is that "as sold" or is there a little conversion work? Weird how companies sell models without something as simple as a rear view of the miniature.

I am sold on the Republican Grenadiers too, I love the amount of minis that I have no idea about in your blog Barzam.

Thanks Thraxas.

The Stuntbot is "as sold." I did absolutely no conversion work on it.

Glad you like the Grenadiers. Are you going to back Anvil's current Kickstarter? There's even more cool looking stuff in there.

Too many people around here only post 40k stuff, so you kind of start to forget just how much funky stuff is out there when all you see is orks and Space Marines all the time. If Tamburlaine ever gets around to posting some pics of his stuff, he's got some weird minis in his collection.

I haven't been around here for a little while though. I've been Lurking while at work, but I can't post from there. I've also been trying to get some Destiny in before my Xbox Live expired. So, that hasn't left a lot of room for painting. It ended last night though, so back to painting for me!

I picked up another Steel Legion guy from the local shop over the weekend. Almost bought a full 10 man set. It was $35, which seems like a good deal to me, especially for GW. But, I had other stuff to get and I'm looking to get a smart phone finally, so I had to save some money. Instead, I just bought their lone plasma gunner.

He's already been recruited to hang out with my other Weird War Germans. I figure I can use him as a falschirmjager with an experimental rifle or flamer or something.

I've kind of been stressing about doing the camo on his jacket. I wanted something that looked properly German, but I was afraid I'd screw it up. I've got an officer from my set of SOTR riflemen that I've redone 3 times now (soon to be 4) because I couldn't get the camo right. Thankfully, I found a very simple way to do splinter camo that works surprisingly well.

Plasma dude looks solid.

That anvil kickstarter looks interesting but there's just something off to me about the aesthetic. Everyone looks... I dunno it's not really short... compact maybe?

The Anvil guys look fine in person. The odd short look is due to the heroic proportions.

Got a bit of work on on my Tiger Soldier. Hopefully a combination of dip and the rifle covering his chest will hide most of my poor blending.

*sigh* White is such a hard color to work with. A minor issue I had with this particular figure is that he has a mold line the ran right through his left eye and kind of destroyed the eye details entirely. I had to re-cut the eye socket in, so the left side of his face looks a little rough. It also seems that you really can't make out pretty much any detail on this guy's face in my pics, either.

I had sent in the missing parts form to CB last week regarding the missing HMG, but I've yet to hear anything from them about it. So, his buddy is going to have to sit around a bit longer.

Solid work on the Plasma gun uniform, very nice!

Infinity guy looks cool too, I have so few of them. I find I have the most trouble with white and yellow armor/uniforms

Yeah white is kind of brutal if you try to do it 'right'. I did 20 or 30 corporation marines with white fatigues painting white, then thick blackwash and layering it back up... nasty business and only moderately effective.

I think the chest plates look fine though on this guy.

Well, here's something that isn't quite typical for me. I've kind of been flip-flopping about getting some Deep Wars stuff. I like the concept, and most of the designs. The only thing I'm not actually all that hot on is the steampunk setting. Still, this is a game that lets you basically field a force made out of Big Daddys.

What finally made me pull the trigger was that someone was selling an already assembled and (surprisingly decently) primed Fortune Hunters Deluxe Starter Set. It had no bids on it and it was only about $15 with shipping and everything. I bid, I won, I got my starter set. I was going to start working on another retro robot for my dad tonight, but then I realized that I was missing some things I needed, so that project gets to wait a little bit longer. Instead, I started on my fortune hunters. In about an hour of work, here's what I wound up with.

These two are still in the process of being painted. The big guy on the left, the Heavy Support Trooper is closer to being finished. Just needs some hoses touched up along with the blowtorch and he himself is done. Then it's just some base detailing. I based his color scheme somewhat on Subject Delta from Bioshock 2, which I'm sure his sculpt was based on to begin with. His armor looks really nice in person with a subtle shift from straight silver to blueish silver that the photo doesn't quite capture all that well.

The guy on the right is the Tactical Dive Soldier. In his case, I was going for a look similar to his card art. I think I pulled it off rather well, actually. I still have more work to do on him. mostly his rifle and follow that up with the basing. If I should pick up some more of this particular unit in the future, I think I'll try going for a color scheme closer to the Heavy Support Soldier's. I really like how he'd come out.

Once I get them dipped, they'll both also be receiving some fluo paint on their visors and dials and whatnot.

Those look damn good for the time invested so far, kind of neat models. I don't really jive with steampunk either but the big daddy aspect makes it a little better

Thanks. The only ones that are overtly Steampunk at least are the Fortune Hunters. The rest of Deepwars are all over the place in terms of design. Dark Mariners look like full on fantasy monsters, with most of the figures having a vaguely Roman look to them, the Scaly Horde are either made up of sci-fi looking bugmen and generic fantasy lizardmen, and the Ancients of Atalan are full on sci-fi spaceman looking guys.

You forgot the Axibalan Empire, which consists of hoochie warrior women and animal people, all vaguely Meso- American inspired, The Order of Yosoth, who are all the undead/ demon summoning evil cultists/ mad scientist types, and The Sunless Kingdom, which has the tribal amphibians and bugs running around with giant animals and monsters.

Typing all that up, yeah, it's thematically all over the place.

Yeah, but those ones are all Shadowsea. The only faction out of Shadowsea I'd run would be the Amazons. But, I don't really want to paint skin or faces, so I think I'll be passing on them.

Over the weekend, I lucked out and chanced upon an IG Commissar at the FLGS. I'd actually been wanting a Commissar for some time, but never bought one due to the fact that they're all Finecast or just plain expensive. Plus, I'm not really a fan of the new plastic one. Luckily though, the one I found was not only their last metal one, but he's actually the one I really liked.

The dude is such a boss, he's not even in a combat pose. There's not a lot of Imperial Guard figures that aren't in combat poses, so that makes this guy kind of unique.

That is kind of awesome, he would look great squished into the center of a blog. Kind of cool to see one without the pistol at the ready to execute a guardsman, kind of makes it look like your unit is made of tougher stuff than standard

I don't get why that particular Commissar figure isn't more popular. I guess it probably is because he isn't posed executing his troops.

Couple more WIP shots. Combi Rifle Tiger Soldier is pretty much done now,

I got an email from CB yesterday confirming that they will indeed replace the missing soon-to-be-obsolete HMG the other guy had.

Speaking of Infinity, I got my shipping notice of Operation Ice Storm and preordered the N3 rulebook.

And here's the robot queen I'm making for my dad, Queen Mechanika. She'll be leading his retro robots to glory.

Got the base coats on my Zuyong Invincible. He's a neat looking figure. I really like him. Can't wait for the chance to buy a whole boxed set of them.

He's also fairly chunky, dwarfing the Shang Ji and other infantry units. his chunkiness is almost on par with the old Janissary.

One really nice thing about the Zuyong & his chunkiness is that he was actually easier to assemble. He had some nice big square pegs for his arms that left very little wiggle room. For once, I had no issues with the arms sliding around before the glue set. I hope that the OI figures go together just as easily.

Fantastic job with the Invincible there Barzam.

Deep Wars stuff looks very good as well. Are you planning on having a go at the game? The setting certainly looks very intriguing.

Thanks. Not sure yet which dip to use on him. I'll have to do touch-up either way.

I would llike to eventually play Deepwars. I have the quickstart rules, but haven't actually looked at them yet. I'm not about to start playing though until all of my guys are painted. And that includes the Recon Trooper, who is probably my least favorite sculpt. And yet, for some reason I've got two of the Recon Troopers.

I wasn't happy with the first paintjob I gave this guy, but I think this one turned out pretty well.

He's a USCR Medic from the game MERCS. If you like Russians with big, chunky power armor, MERCS is for you! Unfortunately, this is the second figure I've gotten from them that didn't have the best casting. His left leg had this weird pitted texture to it that I mostly managed to shave off while his abdomen just plain didn't cast up that well. The details there were very soft. Thankfully, you can't really tell either problem exists looking at him now.

He fits in nicely with my other green army men, too.

I even tried to put some effort into highlighting it. Not sure how good I did, but it looks better than my usual attempts.

Also, got my Operation Ice Storm today, which I'll be splitting with my cousin. Also received an FRP order which had some Weird War Germans, a post apocalyptic survivor, and a monster that's an amalgamation of bones. Should be fun painting times ahead for me!

I also went and ordered the out of production Janissary with AP rifle and the soon to be discontinued Ragik double pack.

Before I get started on my cousin's Panoceania, I wanted to get some fun stuff out of the way first.

When Reaper showed off their recent Post Apocalyptic Hunter figure for Chronoscope, I knew I had to have one. I got him on Saturday, painted him up real fast last night.

I'm very happy with him. He was such a breeze to paint up. I wish they'd release a few more with a similar aesthetic. I know they've got at least one more that's a female carrying a duffle bag. I'll have to pick up her at some point.

Here he is with some of my other survivors.

He reminds me of a COBRA agent for some reason. Probably the sunglasses and the bandanna covering his face.

You should totally paint a cobra logo on him.

Hell, all those survivors are colorful enough to be some sort of COBRA cell.

Well, I could use some Cobras. Hasslefree makes a very nice Cobra Commander and I've seen Heresy's Sci-fi Troops make some quite nice Vipers.

Also, I have been considering buying an Ariadna SAS from Infinity to make into Beach Head. I really wish I could find a figure I could make into Chuckles.

Thanks, I wish I could say the same about the Nisses I just painted.

Obviously, this is the Operation Icestorm Nisses. This is the first figure I've done from the set. I had a few issues with getting his right arm to mount. For some reason, I just didn't seem to want to attach properly and I had to do some filling with green stuff. That odd gap you can see above the crook of his right arm isn't actually a gap. The photo makes it look like one, but it's really just part of his jacket overlapping part of his shoulder. I know this doesn't look all that good, but it looks much better in person. Plus, stuff that I'm planning to dip using the black dip tends not to look all that good beforehand anyway. He'll look much better when he's been dipped, I'm sure (I hope). I wasn't pleased with how any of the other PanO I painted looked prior to dipping, but they proved to look great once the rpocess was finished. I hope that'll be the case here since like the Fusilier trio I did before, this guy's going to my cousin when he's finished.

I also painted up one of Reaper's Bone Fiends. I've wanted one of these things since I first saw it.

Quite possibly the easiest paintjob I've ever done. There really isn't a whole lot of variety in color you can do with a pile of animated bones. Someday I'll have to get the similar looking one that Privateer Press makes for Hordes. And the zombie version of this thing, Glom.

My biggest complaint about the Bone Fiend though has got to be its size. It isn't anywhere near as big as it probably ought to be.

I want the thing to tower over the other figures. It should be a monster to be feared. Something adventurers should be running away from. Instead, its small stature makes it look like something that could be easily defeated by a sufficiently large rock. Oh well, it's not the only monster I've been working on.

He's got a lot of light colors. They lend themselves well to the Tudor. I've put models I thought looked much worse into the Tudor and it hasn't let me down yet

Bone fiend is cool. I was going to build and entire tombkings bone giant on a similar concept but maybe splicing in horse skeletons too, never happened, but this makes me think it could have worked out.

There's actually quite a few non-human skeletons in that Bone Fiend. There's definitely some kind of bull or goat thing and a bunch of dogs and rat skeletons in there.

I slapped this guy together last night. This is a Krieghexe from Blackball Games' AEWWII line. I figured my Weird War Germans needed some occult support. This will be the guy calling the various monsters.

Tomorrow, after I get paid I'm going to see about getting some more Weird War Germans out of Eureka Miniatures. I found out they've got a line of Germans riding dinosaurs.

The Nisse right arm fits 'perfectly', but it's a pain to find the spot because of how it has to tuck around the lapel of his coat thing.
It looks like you found the other spot that feels nearly right but has a gap at the front.
It's isn't noticeable even now, so it worked out!

Barzam Paints random miniatures- 6/30/2020 Dusk Raider Thunder Warrior Sniper @ 2014/10/22 05:11:28

Post by: Barzam

I know I'd gotten it to fit before I started painting, but the thing just would not sit right for some reason. The only reason the gap isn't noticeable now is because I filled it with green stuff.

Well, this post is a milestone. This is my 2000th post! And it proves that I spend way too much time on here.

For my 2000th post, I feel like I ought to be posting something huge and awesome, like a fully painted Space Marine army or something. I haven't got that though. Instead, I'll share with you all a German vampire I painted!

This guy'll be hanging out with my Weird War Germans, obviously. He's from West Wind's Secrets of the Third Reich line. I guess he was supposed to be some special edition figure or something, but FRP Games had him for all of $1. How could I resist adding him to my forces?

The Krieghexe kind of throws things off, but I think he'll look good acting as an officer for my troops.

It's about to get a bit crazier. Last night I just made an order for something a little wacky for the army.

I also painted up the first of my cousin's Fusiliers from Operation Icestorm. I really like these new Fusilier figures. When I get the opportunity, I'm going to have to get the new PanO starter so I can get a few for myself.

You can see a bit of the sizing difference here between the new and the old PanO.

The old one's got kind of a melon head, but is shorter overall. I'd be curious to see how the better proportioned LGL and sniper Fusiliers fit in with the new guys.

No PanO update today. Instead, I bring you a Haqqislam update!

First Ragik is done. I've actually done a little bit more work since taking the picture. I was going to leave both feet attached to his slot, but it left him leaning way back and was throwing the weight off, so I clipped the back foot from the slot and bent him forward a bit and addid a bit more green to his chest. I'm still working on his HMG buddy and hoping to pick up the hacker unit eventually.

To be honest, I'm not sure if that's even a guy. The sculpter really accentuated the butt and curvyness the way they tend to do with female figures, but the upper body is really bulky and has some rather beefy arms. The posing is a bit odd, but that's true for all of the Ragiks. Even the kneeling guys' poses are slightly odd. Bending the figure did help a bit though. At least now he doesn't look like he's falling over.

Two more of my cousin's figures to go! Tonight I just completed the other two Fusiliers from Operation Icestorm. Hopefully I can get the other two done before the weekend, but I haven't got my hopes very high that that'll happen. The Akali and the Father Knight look to be the two most obnoxious figures in the PanO box.

Here's the bearded, shooty Fusilier. I should probably paint his scope.

And of course, the much maligned Fusilier Girl.

Seriously, she looks like she's posing for a recruitment ad or something. Did the Nomad strike team interrupt a photoshoot at Mototronica or something? This figure also gave me some trouble because her right leg didn't want to go together correctly. I wound up having to seriously shave down the post to get the legs to actually fit together and then I had to greenstuff up the huge gap that was still left over.

"Dammit, there's no more copies left with the CSU! You should've preordered!"

And here's the other Ragik from the two-pack. This is the soon-to-be useless HMG model.

You know, it's kind of hard to photograph a guy that's kneeling and carrying a gun in front of his body that's as big as he is.

Lastly, I got these two GW metals ready for their trip to the dip.

I've found that I rather like the old metals from GW. Their IG figures tended to have much sharper features than the plastics and a lot more personality. That melta gunner looks much cooler than the current plastic one. I just wish he had his shades down.

I've got some other random junk I've picked up being worked on. I don't want to reveal them just yet. I also got the missing HMG for my Tiger Soldiers. And then I lost it. I'm so pissed off about that. I had it on the weekend. I put it with my stuff, now I have no clue where it went. I've looked all over the apartment, including the trash and I can't find the damn thing. It looks like I may wind up having to mod the guy into carrying a combi rifle after all since I have no clue what happened to his correct weapon.

That really sucks about losing your replacement part :(

GW figs look solid, I always liked how much more effort guardsmen have to put into carrying around weapons space marines like to hold in one hand.

Haqq drop dude looks good, and I like your fusileers. I don't mind the posing/ragefist lady, maybe she just made a shot and she's going "YES!"

Looking good!

One thing that helps the femal Fusilier fit in a little more is if you paint the 'skin' areas under the armour as cloth, so it looks like she's wearing proper gear rather than forgetting to put a shirt on under her body armour. After that, as GD says, it's easy enough to picture it as a celebration of a kill shot rather than a photoshoot pose.

Out of interest, what do you mean about the Father Knight and Akal being 'obnoxious'?

Nice work! I had the same problem with the fusilier's leg. Had to chop the whole nub off.

On the bright side about the HMG, I heard the tiger soldier HMG profile is being replaced with a spitfire. So if you can mod him with that instead it all works out.

With that powerpack the Melta Gunner has, you'd think he'd have a more powerful weapon than a Space Marine's meltagun, too.

They look like they've got more parts than the others and their poses look like they'll make painting a fair bit more difficult. The Akali's backpack looks like it's going to annoy me with those fin/booster things.

Well, now that the HMG is missing, I guess I'll just have to take CB's challenge of modding the guy. Of course, once I mod him, you know that HMG is going to turn up.

The Father Knight isn't too bad, as you can pretty much paint the whole thing the armour colour of your choice and then block in the non-blue parts before hitting it with a wash. The hardest bit of assembly is the antennae, which can be a real pain, but other than that it should fit together easily enough.

As for the Akal, the armour pattern is almost identical to the Fusiliers (one of the things I love about the Infinity stuff, how the aesthetic carries over from model to model) apart from the backpack. You might want to leave the arms off to paint the chest, but again it's not too fiddly.

I look forward to seeing what you do with them!

Well, since I couldn't get the new Fusiliers just yet, I decided to grab the next best thing, Bolts!

These guys are actually for me, not my cousin. If he wants Bolts, he can get his own. I'm doing a few things on the side while I'm painting my cousin's PanO, and these guys were one of those side projects. The Bolt girl is still being worked on though. I like these guys. I'd consider getting the other set and the Neoterra starter so I can have more. I noticed while putting these guys together that the male arms are actually interchangeable, you'd just need to bend the left arms a bit to get the swap to work properly. If I ever get the Neoterra starter, that's exaclty what I intend to do.

Another side project was the 40k Space Marine Master of Relics.

I'd been hunting at the FLGS for a while now for some metal Space Marine characters. None have really shown up, but someone had put the Space Marine Finecast "Masters" into the consignment case. These guys have the character I was looking for, but unfortunately, they're Finecast. I wound up grabbing the Master of Relics since his casting was actually surprisingly good and he's the least doofy looking of those guys. He's got a big, wonky Servo Skull, but I left it off because it makes his already ridiculous backpack even more dorky. Anyway, for a little while now, I've been wanting to do some Space Marines in green and with a more military look to them, kind of like the Raptors chapter, so I figured I'd try it out on this guy. I think it turned out pretty damn well. I'd been doing Relictors before and had the beginnings of a small, but game legal force, but a mishap with spray primer ruined about half of my guys pretty much permanently and really soured me towards doing any more Marines. I've got an unopened box of the new Tac Marines and this guy may actually have given me that urge to pop them open some time in the future and actually work on them.

Well, for the hell of it, I painted this guy up to go with my Master of Relics.

He was originally going to be a Relictor, but I had no real urge to actually finish the half-done paintjob on him, so I just scrapped it and started over with this, got him finished in a couple hours. It's so much easier to paint green. I tried my hand at doing some freehand scratches on him for the hell of it too. Never hurts to practice. I think if I had to pick a name for this chapter, I'd probably call them the White Stars.

I'll probably have some more of them off and on in the future.

Tonight, I have also officially finished work on my cousin's Panoceania! Here's his Father Knight.

Not a bad figure. I really wish I could keep him for myself. Surprisingly, I haven't done much in the way of Military Orders. Including this guy, it's a grand total of four figures. Here they all are together.

The knight on the far left was actually one of the very first Infinity figures I painted. I'd like to think I've improved a bit since then.

And because I can't resist...

That Father Knight is a badass.

The Akali is finished as well.

I like this figure's design so much more than the old ones. i hope they release a few more soon.

For my own stuff, I finished my female Bolt!

Now all three are ready to get dunked and dirtied up by the Minwax

If you recall, i mentioned that I lost the replacement HMG arms for my Tiger Soldier. Well, I accepted the challenge that was presented to me and made the guy usable! Check it out!

Looks pretty different from how he looks with the HMG, right? A bit of careful cutting and a spare left hand courtesy of Anvil Industry allowed me to make this guy into a second Combi Rifle Tiger Soldier. Now, aside from design, there's absolutely no compatibility issues with the new rules. The only downside to this is that the new right arm is clearly a different sculpt from the left. I still have absolutely no clue what figure that arm came from. I don't recognize it from anywhere. I'm also thinking I'll strip the paint off of the other Tiger Soldier and repaint him to match this one.

Finally, I have two completed figures to show: my Zuyong Invincible, and my Zerat!

Zuyong Invincible:

I decided to keep a lot of the brown tint from the Strong Tone dip I used. It makes his gear look a bit more worn. I also decided to forgo putting lights on him. I kind of like how nice and plain he looks without them.

Zerat:

Since the Zerats are intelligence agents, I wanted her to look a little different from my other Combined Army while keeping the desert aesthetic. I actually used the exact same colors that were used on the other figures with the only major additions obviously being the pink and the heavy use of green. She fits in just fine with the others, but stands out just enough to make her look unique among them.

Yep definitely a sweet update filled with modely goodness.

I think your space marine belongs to the US Army chapter, olive drab and a big white star . Or well, Horus Heresy equivalent US army

Father knight is a beast, and the rest of your Pan-O looks good too! Rest of the models in general though.

Seeing the different angles for that Invincible makes me want to paint one in the same scheme as my Oniwaban, which is pretty similar to how you've painted yours, white armor, he'd just have those red muscle fibers etc.

So you had a spare right arm from some infinity model, and had to use a backup left, huh? I think it works! The left arm is just up-armored a bit as it's the side that faces the enemy in a standard shooting pose right

Nice work on the infinity figures

The green terminator with the star reminds me of someone's army years ago where they made a WWII US GI army. They all had army helmet heads and I think the sarge had a big ol cigar, looks like this would fit the bill perfectly.

Well, I was going for a Raptors/US WWII look for the Marine colors. The guy at the local hobby shop seemed impressed with what I'd done with it when I showed him both of the green marines. Speaking of, I picked up a set of Ultramarines Honor Guards with some other hero looking dude from the consignment case today. Hopefully, now that I'm done with my cousin's Infinity figures, I can paint some oddball and random things at my leisure for a bit. I got all of the PanO stuff I've been working on dipped last night. Hopefully I can get them dull coated and based before next Saturday so I can hand them over to my cousin.

I got in a couple games of Mars Attacks tonight with Tamburlaine. Tamburlaine seemed to think that there was an error in the number of Martian troops that should have been in the first mission and I kind of agree with him. There's way too few. That aside though, it's pretty fun. This was my first time actually playing one of the Mantic games that I backed and I definitely enjoyed it. Hell, for once I actually even managed to win when I played the humans.

With luck, we'll play again next weekend and rope our cousin into it.

The Martians may have had better shooting, but their range did them no favors. They tended to get gunned down from across the board before they even got close enough to fire off a shot. Those LMG soldiers, when placed properly can really control the board.

My Bolts are also done.

I really liked these guys a lot more than I thought I would. I'd like to get some more. Hopefully in the future I can get the Neoterran sectorial set and add some more Bolts. If I get more, I'm planning some arm swaps.

Less interesting, I assembled my Exrah figure for the painting challenge. I just applied the first layer of paint to him. So, here's step 1

You should stop playing with your GSR and start painting your OI guys.

Speaking of PanO, I went and ordered myself another of the older Fusiliers. *sigh* Damn lack of impulse control.

I've got a bit more progress on my Exrah, too.

Here's stage 2. I got his armor all blocked out.

As you can see, on his left thigh, I did a little test to see how the feathering I'm planning would look.

Step 3: detailing!

I applied the feathering to most of his armor plates. A transition from dark to light was added to his upper limbs and the blade on his rifle arm. I also gave him asymmetrical yellow markings on various parts of his armor. I'm reading Ghost Brigade, the sequel to Old Man's War right now and one of the alien races humanity has to deal with in it are the Enesha, a race of highly advanced insects. In the early parts of the book, one of their soldiers is described as having markings on his exoskeleton which denote his clan. I liked that idea and applied it to this guy. All that's left now is dip, OSL, and basing.

Oh, and I also finished one of my Ragiks. The other one is waiting to be dipped. I want to get some more guys finished up so I can do a large batch at once.

Both are looking quite nice The Exrah is coming along well, I like the yellow markings edged in black.

I'm not even really working on the GSR atm, kind of in a lull. Work will be slowing down to almost nill by the end of the month though so I should have more time soon.

Nope, the Void Operator is actually a Super Jumping Medium Infantry with an HMG. He also has Zero-G an X-Visor, and a 360-Visor. He costs 1.5 SWC | 34 Points

His stats are:
Move: 6-2
CC: 14
BS: 12
PH: 11
WIP: 13
ARM: 3
BTS: 0
AVA: 2

The biggest downside to using Exrah, that I can see, is the fact that they're Exrah. An attack that can penetrate their armor insta-kills them. Same thing happens if they fail a BTS roll from an E/M attack. But that mobility! Damn!

Thanks. Glad you guys liked it. I kept second guessing myself with that one. Glad to know the paint scheme worked.

Since the Exrah is essentially done for the time being, I have some time to start work on other figures. I chose to start work on my Alguaciles from Operation Ice Storm! I've got one of the Ice Storm Alguaciles done, and I've got the one from the Corregidor boxed set (who've all been sitting unpainted) done as well.

Alguacile Hacker

Female Ice Storm Alguacile (possibly the Lt.)

As you can see, I decided to continue the look of my woodland Corregidor forces. I'll probably be keeping this scheme for Corregidor in general. Bakunin and Tunguska will get different color schemes. One thing I'm undecided about is what to do with my Wildcats. I want some opinions here. Keep this exact scheme for the Wildcats, or paint their uniforms in black with green armor and leave out the browns entirely?

So, like I promised, here's the male Alguaciles (with their female counterpart)

And here they are compared to the hacker from the Corregidor box.

This pic doesn't really show it, but the hacker girl is really small. I think the scale creep has a habit of going in both extremes at times in this line. She's not an old figure by any means, but she's really tiny compared to just about every other figure. Compared to the other figures, the hacker winds up looking like she's a kid or something. I suppose Corregidor recruits early.

Speaking of Corregidor, here's how the new recruits match up with some of the figures I've already done.

I think the final touchups on the guys took me maybe 10-20 minutes tops. Most of my evening was actually spent working on my Halqa.

From start to finish, these two took me about 4 hours, I think. Not bad for only 4 hours of work.

As it turns out, it is indeed compatible! There's a little trimming necessary on the Combi Rifle to get it to fit on the Bagh Mari, but it does indeed fit. So, what were going to be a pair of straight PanO figures are now a pair of converted PanO figures!

I also cut down the barrel on the Combi Rifle a bit so it wouldn't look quite so humongous. I think that actually helped it a bit. well, I now have an old style HMG Fusilier and a spare Combi Bagh Mari. That's cool. Not sure I'm going to stick with the green scheme on the Bagh Mari if/when I get more of them, though. I'd originally wanted to do him up in a tiger stripe camo, but it turned out absolutely terrible. I think part of the problem as well is that I've been doing a lot of painting in a short amount of time and it's about time I took a bit of a break from it. So, Not sure how much more I'll be doing this week. Next week I'm going to Japan for vacation, so there won't be any work done. So, aside from finishing up the dipped figures, don't expect to see a whole lot of new stuff for a little while.

Yep models look good. Enjoy the trip! Make sure to stop by at least one of those grill-in-the-table places, and a conveyer belt sushi place (if you like sushi).

I assume you will return burdened with mecha?

Oh yeah, I'll be bringing back a lot of junk. I've done the rotating sushi and the Korean barbecue before. I want some of the winter foods, like roasted yams and oden.

I'm hoping that I can score some more Infinity stuff on Black Friday. There's more PanO I'd like to get, like more Bolts, Fusiliers, and some Regulars.

Where do you tend to have the most success when you do that? MM, warstore, eBay? I don't think I'm going to spend any money I absolutely don't have to (especially on myself) but there are a few kits I'd pick up if anyone was selling them for laying-down-on-the-train-tracks-crazy prices.

If I ever go back I'm just going to camp out at a good ramen place and go all Naruto on it's ass. I got one medium-big bowl when the wife and I went there and I really wish a.) I'd gotten a bigger one and b.) we'd gone to more than one place (or that place twice!). Also, 2 hours was not long enough at Akihabara (or however you spell it) although I feel we did get to see more of the smaller towns/country than some tourists might.

So far, I haven't had much success with Black Friday stuff. i'm hoping to grab at least one starter off of Miniature Market.

I've found a few good ramen places. There's a really good one in Harajuku near a toy store called Kiddy Land. The place was cool because part of the inside of the restaurant was designed like an old timey ramen stall. There's also a really good eel shop in Nakano near the Mandarake.

I finished up my Halqa, even painted eyes on them.

I actually really like the Halqa design. They look like nice, ordinary soldiers. Plus, they're one of the few line infantry to actually have helmets. The match up nicely with my Hasslefree figures, too.

And let's not forget the obligatory action shot.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually, I got lucky and managed to score myself a Military Orders starter set off of Miniature Market for a grand total of $30. So, not too bad.

Nice on the MO starter. Considered getting a neoterra starter but ehh.

New recruits are looking great. I'm getting a really strong sailor moon vibe from the first woman. Bonus points if you name her Serena lol.

I don't like eel but ramen is delicious.

Action shot is fantastic as usual.

Well, Tamburlaine was hunting for gifts on there all morning as well. With luck, I'll have a Neoterran box coming my way next month as well. I'll have to get the Bolt specialist box so I can do some arm swaps and conversions.

I thought the Halqa girl looked more like Asuka from Evangelion, myself. Maybe I should've made her a redhead.

Well, if I do get the Neoterra box, I've got some mods in mind for the Bolts.

Finally finished up my rifle Janissary. I really wish they'd stuck with this design for them. It fits their fluff so much better than the new ones do.

Okay folks, this is going to be the last figure I'll be showing prior to my trip. This is the Aquila Decianus figure from the Junkers faction in Urban War.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the Junkers designs from the Void era, but I love the Urban War versions. They're full on space Romans and it's awesome! I suppose if there was a line that Alpharius could use his "Barzam's Gonna Barzam" thing, it'd be this one. This particular figure is apparently supposed to be a standard bearer for the Junkers. Only, their standard is actually a huge axe. For some reason, this guy also gets an absolutely fabulous jacket and a unique helmet that makes him stand out a bit more than the others in the line. He looks pretty awesome with my other Romans though.

In other news, I already received the Military Orders box that I'd ordered in Miniature Market's Black Friday sale. That was damn fast. I also finally received my police figures from FRP. Only thing is, they're not the ones I originally ordered. I'd ordered the Tactical Miniatures/Armorcast police figures from them months ago, like back in September or something. FRP tried and tried to get in a restock of them, putting in several orders, but Armorcast never sent anything. So, they gave me the option of either taking a refund, store credit, or swapping for something else. They still had some police from West Wind's roadkill line in stock and they were the same price, so I swapped for them. I'd heard the figures were on the larger scale, but just from holding them up to my Ice Storm Alguaciles, it looked like they're about the same size, so they should fit in with my other true scale stuff fairly well. The only downside to them is that the Tactical Miniatures guys were in short sleeved uniforms, had male and female officers, weren't wearing hats, and had a variety of weapons. The West Wind guys are all armed with pistols (one has a flashlight), have long sleeved uniforms, are all male, and they're all wearing caps. I'd wanted cops with short sleeved uniforms, but oh well. I'm just pleased to have some police now. I think they're going to be one of the first things I work on when I get back from my trip.

Well, I've made my real hobby purchases of the trip. Picked up the HGAW Gundam Airmaster, and the Montero from the newest show. Also got the Lightning Gundam's support fighter. Last night I'd come across some of the small scale Yamato 2199 models and picked up the EDF ships Kirishima and Yukikaze. Those are really nice kits considering their small size. I still need to pick up the G Arcane from he newest Gundam series, the Lightning Gundam, and I'd like to grab the 1/48 live action styled Patlabor kit.

Been a little while. I haven't been idle since I got back. I've been working on a few figures. I actually wasn't really ready to take pictures yet of anything since most of the stuff I've been working on isn't at a point yet where I'm happy with it enough to show it off, but I figured it's been a good long while since my last photo anyway, so I might as well show some of my progress.

I'd ordered myself a Pendekar not-TAG from Zandris IV on Black Friday because I was already spending money anyway and I'd wanted one. It came a couple days ago and I assembled it yesterday. I'll probably post pics of it in a couple days, maybe. Anyway, one of the things I'd been planning on doing with it was using one of its two guns to arm my Anaconda with a proper firearm. I hate that the Anaconda is the only TAG in Infinity not carrying it's gun (the Caskuda doesn't count because his are internal and they did sculpt ports in his arms for them). I'm a little OCD when it comes to WYSIWYG and I want my models to actually show what they're carrying. Plus, I have a fear that if I ever play the Anaconda, I'd wind up forgetting that it even has a Spitfire since it isn't carrying the thing. So, anyway, I went ahead and made a gun for it.

Please excuse the slapped on, uneven and splotchy paint on it. I just wanted to get some paint on it prior to gluing it on in order to attempt to avoid getting any paint on the hand itself. I had to mount it a little further back on the gun than where the Pendekar held it, otherwise it wouldn't have fit properly. I added an ammo magazine to where the Pendekar's hand had originally been to beef it up a little and make it look a little more proper.

This beauty is a Reaper figure called the Glom. paintjob is pretty basic. It didn't need to be anything all that special.

How could I pass that thing up though?

On an impulse buy, I'd bought a 3-pack of out of production Crooked Dice minions from FRP. They're all in the same pose, but each comes with 3 optional heads and an optional right hand holding a funky gun. So far, I've only finished these two.

So, one guy with hardhat and no gun, one with hardhat and with gun, and the third has big hair and a gun, but no helmet. No clue what I'll actually do with them, though.

I mentioned before that I'd swapped my Tactical Miniatures cops with the West Wind Roadkill cops. I got all four painted up. They came with some funky hex bases that I ditched. The bases they're using were scrounged from other figures, so they've still got old paint and glue on them. It won't be noticeable after I base them, though.

They are a little big. They're a bit taller and beefier than the SWAT officer I made from the Reaper Delta Force guy and they're a bit bigger than the Mantic Mars Attacks soldiers (who will someday also be SWAT officers). It isn't too noticeable though, thankfully. I still wish I could've got those Tactical guys.

Lastly, I'll leave you with a figure I did entirely for fun, A Sister of Battle with a flamer.

I don't know why it took me so long to paint her, but I finally forced myself to sit down and get it done. I've finally finished painting the female Wildcat from the Corregidor box set.

She's another of those damn tiny figures that you absolutely MUST use a detail brush on for most of the work. I think she turned out good. Only thing I'm unsure about is the visor part of the helmet. I'll add glowy bits to the helmet and the little round bits on the shoulders after dipping, but I'm just not sure if I want to keep the visor part green like it is now, or go with a dark grey or some other color entirely.

It's a little hard to tell with this pic, but she has a darkish brown undersuit with her pants in a lighter brown.

Apparently, my Corregidor colors actually work pretty well, because a few days ago, my brother tried using my Alguaciles to check the scale of some trees he got, and after a few moments, he actually couldn't find them among the trees.

They don't scale together as well as I'd like. They're better suited to being civvies in a GW game.

Hey guys, thanks a lot. And a merry Christmas to you all, as well.

It looks like I have to set aside my current projects. My brother picked up Sedition Wars and we're splitting the painting of the miniatures. Tamburlaine is painting the Strain, I get to do the Vanguard. Now, we're doing this for our cousin, same one I did the PanO Fusiliers for last year and the Operation Ice Storm Fusiliers. He's a noob when it comes to painting and even moreso when it comes to even putting miniatures together. So, we're doing the hard parts for him. His birthday is next week, which means I've got a bit of a time crunch to get all of these guys done. So, since we're doing these so our cousin can just quickly get the figures on the board and play, I don't think he's going to care if the figures have had the mold lines removed or super detailed paintjobs. With that in mind, I've opted to ignore the mold lines (they actually weren't that bad on the Vanguard) and I've decided to speedpaint my way through them. So, I've got the first five Vanguard figures totally done and ready for sealant.

I've got seven more assembled and primed and with luck, I'll have them done tonight.

Pic's a little blurry, I know, but that's just because it's late (1:18am, to be exact) and I just wanted to get a shot to show that I'm finished. I'll take a few more better pictures when I have some time, along with the drone.

I hope my cousin likes them too. He's a Halo fan and I was going for a Master Chief-ish look for the Vanguard.

Here's the extra pics I promised.

Here's the Vanguard Drone

I decided to try something different with the drone. To make it stand out more, and due to the fact that it has a lot of hard edges and flat surfaces, I thought I'd try weathering it. This was my first time trying the sponge/foam technique. While the chips aren't very easy to see in the pics, they actually turned out looking surprisingly good in person. I'm pleased with how well the effect worked. Next time I paint up a vehicle or something, I'll have to try it again.

Here's the four hero figures.

These four were probably the hardest of the bunch to do, especially the guy with the exoskeleton. I couldn't just slop the paint on and then a wash and call them done. I'm not especially pleased with them, but I think they'll get the job done.

Lastly, here's a closeup of one of the Vanguard troops I had to modify.

The figure's gun was miscast, so it was missing the right arm. It had the gun and the left hand, but no arm. So, I decided to salvage her using pieces from a Mantic Corporation Marine. The right arm, gun, and left forearm are from the Mantic figure with a bit of liquid Green Stuff filling the gaps. I think she actually fits in fairly well with the rest despite having a rather different looking gun. I'm very pleased with how well this worked though.

I should have had you take a photo of all the Strain I painted!

I feel your pain, having to keep on chugging through the sea of restic to get back to what I wanted to paint.

It was hard at times, but I actually enjoyed painting up the figures (just wasn't a fan of trying to jam my way through everything at the last minute).

I literally finished it all up the morning before we gave the game to him, about 40 minutes or so prior to boxing and wrapping everything up.

I'll ask him about it if I see him online. i actually don't have his email, either.

Okay, Mercenary Pendekar is almost done. I figure he can stand in as an Anaconda. About the same size and has similar armaments. Plus same sized base. Also, you can see my Anaconda's new gun here, too.

I wish my checks were better. They don't look very good and they're clumped more on one side than on the other. Regardless, I wanted something to make it look a bit more individual compared to the other two. Decals and possibly some weathering to come in the near future. Really not sure about the weathering, since the other two are clean. What say the rest of you?

Also, while checking out the new local game store, I saw the Pacer drone from Relic Knights.

Am I the only one who thinks this thing would make a great Remote stand-in?

how big are the bases on the Remotes? The Pacer is on a lipped base, so that's making it a bit bigger. I'd imagine you could squeeze it onto a 40mm.

"Normal" remotes go on 40mm bases. "Combat" remotes tend to go on 55. Normal being everything else, Combat being drones with armor like Nomad Sputniks and maybe those Pan-O Bulliteers and such. At least that's how I remember it going. There was a list of things getting changed to 55mm bases but it may have been so far back as to have been on the old Infinity N&R page.

In my current efforts to try and work through the models I have, I've started working on my Mechadrome mechs. I bit the bullet and forced myself to actually sit down and work on them. I was apprehensive to work on them due to their larger size, but once I got going, things went fairly smoothly. Last night I finished applying the base colors to my Mechadrome Light Mech.

I know that's not the most exciting pose. My heavy looks more actiony at least. I painted this thing up to go along with my Grymn power armor, which I'll be using with my Deadzone Brokkrs. It's a pretty small mech, about the size of a TAG.

I had some casting issues with both this mech and the heavy, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to hide those issues with some paint. I'll be dipping this and applying the cockpit window reflections and weathering later.

I promised Grim I'd have some photos tonight. Low and behold, I actually did work on my Forge Fathers! I got one Brokkr done as a test figure and got the Mining Laser all painted up. Was that thing supposed to have a base?

I wanted the mining laser to look used and filthy. The pictures do not do it justice just how filthy I made it look. For one, I'd used the Typhus Corrosion on the tracks and undercarriage. That stuff has a muddy texture to it that totally doesn't show up in any of the pics I took. The mech I'd painted will receive similar weathering, but not to this degree. I'll keep that more under control. I figure the mech, since it has hands, it probably uses tools, so it gets less dinged and filthy than something like that laser. The heavy mech - if I can ever get it to stay on its base - will be more heavily weathered like this since it has drill arms.

The great thing about the laser is that it also doubles as a nice little piece of scenery.

So, here's my Brokkr stuff so far.

Something else I decided to work on though.... probably could stand to be censored a bit.

Yep, the infamous Wet Nurse! I actually finally painted the thing! I couldn't figure out how to paint it and I knew I could never give it a paintjob that was worthy of it. I finally settled on just making it look very fleshy. I wanted its face to look like a mask rather than an actual part of it, but that didn't turn out looking so good. Any suggestions?

Surprisingly, it's actually not that big of a monster. I'm unsure if I want to eventually base it along with its thralls or not. For now, I'll just let it roam freely.

So, your guys are going to look like mine, but not like mine? Lol

I actually just completed another Brokkr this morning. I'll post him up tonight. There's a few changes I want to make still. I'm thinking I'll add a lighter color to their pants cuffs and I'll paint their shirts the same grey as their pants, since it looks to possibly be a single piece suit they're wearing under their mining gear. I also really want to replace their doofy looking pistols. I don't like those things at all. I think the Steel Warriors had pistol hands. Maybe I can steal theirs.

Despite the fact that I'm painting yellow, painting these scruffy space miners has been fun.

Yeah they've got pistols and steel warrior bits are cheap on eBay usually...

For instance.

5 pistol hands and 5 rifle arms. Also left hands with glove-radios? And bonus detonator handles too. Oh well the top half of steel warriors while you're at it but not as helpful for brokkrs.

Hey, you snooze you lose, guys. Get painting!

How about another Brokkr?

I know, teeth and eyes still need work. I'll add a wash to the teeth, but I'm going to wait to do the eyes after I've sealed him.

I've had this guy done for a little while. Figured I'd show him off since I rarely have monsters in here.
Reaper Beholder:

I've started painting some more green Space Marines, like the Terminator and Master of Relics I'd done. First guy I made from various leftovers laying around.

His head and shoulders come from Puppetswar, the backpack, legs, spare ammo mags, and arms/minigun are from Anvil Industries, rifle on his back is from a Deadzone Zombie, equipment pouches and torso are GW. I wanted to give him a bolter, but for some reason, I couldn't find any that didn't already have hands molded onto them. So, I grabbed the nearest rifle laying around which just happened to be a Deadzone Zombie one. I actually kind of prefer it. It gives him a bit more character. He's also got a spare scope for it among his gear.

Black Ops Sergeant

This is a full Anvil Industries Black-Ops Exo Lord. This one comes from the combi-rifle set and is armed with a magnetized combi-plasma. I like how much more military looking the Anvil guys are. I've got another one from that set on the table right now, too.

one final shot with both new guys and the Termie I painted.

I did try converting the Brokkr pistols with bits from the FF Steel Warrior pistols. They look so much better now.

The exolord and half-marine half that look pretty sweet. I think the marine with the imported legs and fancy mini gun may be my favorite.

Brokkr looks solid and I also like the beholder. Looking forward to seeing your pistol conversions at work.

Okay, this update should make a certain Highlord happy. While I spent pretty much the entirety of MLK Day playing video games, I did do some hobby work. That German Jet Mecha Tamburlaine picked up for me in particular.

Ooh boy, this thing. Tons of flash on the metal bits, the cockpit was slightly misshapen and absolutely no instructions on where the pile of metal bits were supposed to go. Oh, and did I mention that this JET mech has an open cockpit? Yeah, a totally open cockpit. On a flying, jet powered mech. So, I made a canopy for it myself out of plasticard. I spent a chunk of last night repairing the legs, too. Resculpted the broken bits and tried to smooth things out. I also tried to fix the big mold slip seam on the right leg using liquid green stuff. Results were... okay. Painting to begin whenever I get around to it.

Worked on some more Deadzone figures. Two more Brokkrs are done, and so is a Plague Enforcer.

The casting on the Enforcer was not the best. The details on him were very soft, so I had to make due with what I had. I think he's passable at the very least.

And here's the Brokkrs.

Obviously, both are the same sculpt. Since Mantic doubled the figures in the starter (aside from the controller and his drill), I figured I should do something to differentiate them all so that it doesn't look like I've got a bunch of clones running around. To that end, I've decided to do two skin tones and add accessories from the Steel Warriors to help individualize them a bit more. On the Caucasian one, I tried doing something different, actual blending and highlights! It's not very easy to tell from the pics though.

You can also see the modded guns I did. I kitbashed the grips from their original guns with the rest of the pistols from the Steel Warriors sets. I think these wound up looking MUCH better than their stock guns.

More stuff to come.

Hopefully tomorrow, if I can get the work done in time, I'll be doing a little bit of Highlording.

Nice work all round. The plague enforcer doesn't look bad though I don't think I regret not ordering one. The weapon design is a bit iffy and if your report of soft details is the norm then meh, with the new zombie kit, should be pretty easy to duplicate that if I were into it.

He looks good painted though! I like the brokkrs too, the guns look solid, I'll have to see if their stock guns bother me or not as I've surely got the spare parts.

I've gotta get myself some of those little fires you've got, especially for when I get around to painting a Blaine.

Okay, I promised some Highlordin' around here and dammit, I'm gonna Highlord it up!

Now, some of these are actually fairly old and have been sitting around for a while.

A while back around the time I did my Eldar, I'd seen someone's Exodite army that I really liked and wanted to emulate it. Plus, I liked the idea of having a team of dinosaur riding Eldar to use in a Song of Blades and Heroes. Sadly, I only ever made this one guy.

This pair of metal lizardmen I found at the FLGS in the consignment case. They were cheap, so I grabbed them.

Do I have a use for them? Absolutely not! I bought them on a whim and painted them purely for fun!

This fellow was an early Bones purchase. I mostly wound up using him to learn how to use washes. He's okay. Definitely not a favorite. Also, I only now noticed that I completely missed the severed head he's got on his belt.

Last but most certainly not least, I present you with this bit of awesomeness.

Yes, that's a German soldier riding a dinosaur that looks like it came from an 80s dollar store. no, it's not a custom. Yes, it's so ridiculously awesome, I had to have at least one for my Weird War Germans. This set comes from Eureka Miniatures' Jurassic Reich line. I'd love to get at least one more dino rider and paint the dinosaur up in a really nauseating color scheme, like bright blue and neon green. I plan on redoing the eyes on the dinosaur after I eventually get the thing dipped.

And, group shot of them all Highlording together.

Okay, I'm kind of torn on this. My brother got me a Strike Leader from Dark Age over the holidays because it reminded him of Voldo from Soul Blade. As soon as I saw that figure, I knew I had to give him a ridiculous and garish color scheme. So, here's what I actually came up with.

Thing is, now I'm kind of wanting to undo this and repaint him to match my Romans and Gladiators. Thoughts?

I'm unfamiliar with the reference so I can't comment as to that...

In and of itself... I'm not a huge fan of the green and white leotard pants, personally.

I like the pink/red and the gold mostly, I would probably prefer it to match your gladiators... however I'm also loathe to repaint anything myself so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't

As is, I certainly wouldn't want to run into this guy in a dark, or well-lit, alley. Kind of looks like the darker side of the Joker's clown gang

The funny thing is, those stripes are actually sculpted onto the figure, but the studio colors totally ignore them. Maybe someday I'll pick up another or the guys this dude is supposed to command and paint them up more normally.

I don't think I've mentioned though, you're not going to see many updates here for a little while. I have to move out of my apartment by the end of the month, so my stuff is all going to be packed up before too long. Hopefully I can get a few more updates before then, though.

Your not- Voldo is appropriately garish.

Gotta agree with GrimDork, it would have been cool to have him more in line with your gladiators. He would have fit in well.

Those Exoskeletons look good painted up. Wasn't a big fan of them based on just the original renders/ prints, but having some paint on it makes a big difference.

I'm sure you can squeeze in an update or two from our parents' house, in a worst case scenario. You paint when you go over there to visit, right?

I wanted to post these pics this morning, but I would've been really late for work if I had. I did a fair bit of mini dipping over the weekend and got a bunch of random figures totally finished. Before I share those with you though, I also finally got around to photographing the Bandai 1/48 Ingram plastic kit I got in Japan.

You're going to need some tall terrain for cover if you plan on using one in a game.

And because you'd probably like one, here's a size comparison with some Enforcers and my Police Squalo.

Seeing Grimdork's recent Deadzone Zombies made me want to finish the four that I'd started back when I got the set. I painted all four last night.

As you can see, my camera really didn't seem to want to take a decent shot of them.

Because my German sorcerer needs things to summon to fight Tamburlaine's scaly hordes, I needed to get some monsters. So, after getting the Bone Fiend, there was no way I could pass up getting a Bone Swarm.

Now I can summon TWO undead abominations!

I think I need a few more. I should get some pics of my finished Glom with them.

I also have a rather Rubenesque Succubus to go with them, though.

Now, before anyone says anything about the paintjob, I know how it looks in this picture. She actually does have a detailed paintjob with highlights and shading and yes, I even properly painted her eyes. The problem is that the lighting in my apartment completely washed out all of that detail.

Speaking of Deadzone stuff though, last night I finished the last of my restic Enforcers that came with the game.

I'm thinking that the rest of them I'm going to do up in desert colors since it's easier to paint than white.

Now, let's end this with some Infinity.

I finally finished the pilot for my Iguana. I think he may serve double duty as an HMG Mobile Brigada until CB releases a proper new sculpt one.

And finally, I finished up the tiny little Wildcat that I'd shown way back when.

Having her finished is somewhat encouraging me to do the other two from the set and finally finish it.

Iguana... wildcat?

Wow nice stuff Glad to see some more DZ zombies, they look nice and gritty.

That's a nice pair of undead monstrosities too!

The Ingram... I kind of want one.. he makes your poor Squalo look tiny though

Nice work all around

Sorry, fixed that. The Ingram does look massive in that pic. It's a decent model, but in typical Bandai fashion, it'll just wind up being a one-off kit, like their The Fool they did from Nobunaga The Fool, or the Round Buckler they did from Mars Daybreak. And, like those, the engineering leaves a bit to be desired. While the Round Buckler was absolute garbage that never should've been released (seriously, I think that's the only time a model actually made me angry) and The Fool could've really done with some more precolored parts, the Ingram suffers from not having the best engineered arms. The joint covers don't extend into the torso, like they should and the connections in the arms want to keep popping apart. On top of that, the arms just feel fragile, like I'm going to break the thing just by handling it. But, at the very least, it'll make a nice display piece if nothing else.

Well, I've got another Deadzone figure. I painted up one of my Peacekeepers last night just to see how he'd look painted up. I tried to match him to my Enforcer Captain, which is why he's got the blue details.

One thing I noticed is that these guys have unusually round heads.

They're also a wee bit smaller than the captain figures.

I also finished my Glom.

I need to get those other undead abominations Reaper makes.

So, just a few quick things. I got my Wrath of Kings. Unlike Highlord Tamburlaine, I only purchased one faction, which is obviously Goritsi, because werewolves. I went ahead and assembled all of the extra werewolf infantry. These are really nice figures. Like, surprisingly so. If Mantic and Privateer Press had used this mixture of restic, I don't think anyone would've had a problem with the material. There's almost no mold lines on these figures. I'm really impressed with the quality of these. Also, the werewolves are kind of big.

I also did some Infinity work tonight. Painted up the two remaining Wildcats from my Corregidor boxed set. I tried something a little different on them. Rather than do the visors like I did on the female one, I thought I'd try giving them a colored visor. Thoughts?

Since they're wearing EVA suits, I figured a painting their helmets to look like they've got a sun shield would look kind of cool. I like how this looks, but at the same time, I feel like it makes them look off. Like, they don't look like Wildcats anymore.

So, should I keep the visors like this and redo the female one to match, or should I redo these two to match the female one?

Also, the Skorza are kind of big.

with luck, my Bones order should be arriving this weekend, too.

Nice work. I do like the look of visors, but it all depends on whether or not you are happy with them looking different to their squadmate.

That werewolf chappie is big!

Forgot to mention, I really like the Peacekeeper above, and the multi-zombie-blob.

Well, the move is pretty much underway. I've got the majority of my non-furniture stuff packed away in storage, which means damn near all of my miniatures. On top of that, I'm house sitting. Again. I made sure to bring my paints and tools with me though. I managed to also bring some 40k figures I never got around to actually doing anything with, a box of Infinity knights, my Toughest Girls troops, and Bones II. A few orders I'd made prior to the move have also shown up, which include two Fusiliers and an Akali hacker. Friday I'm supposed to be getting a squad of Terminators. So, I'll at least have some things to paint while I'm stuck here.

In order to keep myself from getting rusty, I've started work on several figures. Only two are close to being done though. Tonight, I worked on a Warp Talon and a Space Marine Scout sniper. Still some work to be done on both of them, but the Scout is pretty much done, aside from a bit of work on his gun and painting his base.

The Warp Talon still needs his eyes, claws, base, and intakes painted. I've got another Warp Talon on the table along with three other snipers (though, two need bases).

Believe me, I have some weird stuff. Problem is, nearly all of it is packed away in storage.

I did get some normal stuff over the weekend though. My Terminators arrived (finished two of them), bought some Sanctioned Psykers and some Wolves of Orboros, and finished a second Scout Marine. Today I'm supposed to get some Pig Iron guys. Should be fun. Pics of finished stuff to come later tonight.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Okay, the promised pictures.

Here's the two Terminators I've completed so far.

I tried to remove some of the extraneous details from some of the Terminators, like the bag ass bling on the power fists and I actually managed to remove one of the purity seals. Like with my other olive drab Marines, I want them to look more military and less space knight. I've added some accessory bits from the Scout Sniper sprue, so they'd have a bit more gear on them. They all go ta little something.

Here's the other Scout Sniper and his buddy, all finished up.

Finally, the majority of tonight's hobby time was spent working on a trio of PanOceania conversions.

These guys wound up doing a three-way arm swap. The Akali Hacker received the Fusilier Sniper's arms, the Fusilier Grenadier got the Akali's arms, and the Fusilier Sniper got the Grenadier's arms. So, I get a couple new poses out of the older (but still good looking) Fusiliers, letting me bulk up their numbers and I get an Akali sniper out of it. Though, I think that profile may've been removed with 3rd edition.

Figured I would post an updated pic of the Akali Sniper. After getting home, I figured I'd do a little more work on converting him. I wanted to bring him more in-line with the updated Akali design, which mean adding the boosters to his jump pack. I figure since he's using older gear anyway, it wouldn't be that big of a deal if his jump pack looked different as well. Obviously the bits I used for it came from a Space Marine backpack, but I think they'll work out okay once I have him painted up.

Obviously it's a bit hard to tell, but I had to do some sculpting on this guy, and the Fusilier Sniper in order for their conversions to work. Unfortunately, when I was planning these conversions out, I didn't know that the sniper's arms weren't compatible with the running guy and the Akali. So, I wound up having to cut apart the running guy's arms to fit onto the sniper's body and there was a HUGE gap to fill on both the sniper and the Akali. Basically, I wound up having to resculpt both figures' right arms. I think I actually managed to pull that off quite well.

I thought they were just big archaic power sources, like backpack sized power plants to run the power armor. As far as I know the only jump jetting belongs to the jump packs with hugemongous thrusters. But I'm not a fluff phile .

I really like what you've done with that Akali Sniper. I'm not an Infinity guy, so I wouldn't know what you've done besides add the SM parts, but it looks very nice. I like your military looking Marines - especially the scouts - it never ever made any kind of sense to me the way that they were always painted as being dressed like apprentice clowns. I'll have to photograph and share my Dark Angels scouts now that you've got me worked up about them. Probably tomorrow.

Well, here's what the Akali looked like originally.

Those arms are now on the running Fusilier though and I've bent the fingers on the hand to be pointing rather than doing... whatever it was he was doing.

And yes, AzazelX, post those Scouts.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Unfortunately, this is just going to get added to my previous post rather than be made into a new one. But, I finished the Akali. I'd post a pic, but every one I took looked terrible, like it was my first time painting a mini. I don't know why they turned out so bad since it actually looks decent in person. So, no pics until I get him dipped, I guess.

I also finished this figure I picked up over the weekend.

These guys are kind of hard to paint. They've got a surprising amount of tiny sculpted details on them. I'm glad I don't have to do a whole unit of them. The pics make his armor look sort of purple, but it's actually blue.

I feel your pain on painting that Oroboros' details. When I did the Warpborn Alpha, who's even bigger and wearing even more armor, it took me forever to suck it up and get him done. Doing all those stupid details was infuriating. I think I ended up doing mine in turquoise as opposed to blue or green.

Come to think of it, I'm really surprised you don't have any Warpborns. They'd go well with your other wolves.

Of course if you want to swap for some Skorza, I've got a unit of skinwalkers I haven't gotten around to painting...

You know what's scary? I might go grab me some 40k stuff today if I don't have any meetings after school...

I seem to be on a bit of a 40k kick of late. Here's the trio of Sanctioned Psykers I picked up last weekend.

Now, this next one is a test figure. I've got a box of Dark Eldar Kabalites I've had for a good long while. I'd painted two of them sometime back in a nice deep, dark blue scheme with some Tron-esque highlighting. I'd wanted to do them all like that, but for the life of me, I have no clue how I did that scheme in the first place. So, I've decided I'll try doing the rest in a different scheme and I'll just buy a pair off of Ebay to replace the other two I'd already painted. I tried painting up three figures last night, trying to come up with something that is A)easy to do and remember and B)still looks dark and sinister. So, the other two I've already tossed into Simple Green since I didn't like how they came out (used metallics, didn't turn out so good). This third guy I rather like, but I wanted some opinions.

Like the psykers, always wanted some but never would pony up the cash, turned out well since I don't really 40k anymore. But yours look good.

I like your dark eldar. Is he finished? I really like the red into bronze/brass or whatever it is you've got going on there, though I'm not as sure about the bright mithril/silver gun, almost too striking. And is the knife finished? I have to wonder as it seems pretty plain for all of the runes on it. I definitely love the main body though, seems very fresh and nu-dar like other schemes that have been cropping up lately.

Actually, yeah, I did forget to put a wash on that knife. I fixed it though, and I've decided to actually paint those details in purple. If I pick up any more Kabalite squads, I'll paint those details in different colors so that I can tell the squads apart. While I've been busy this weekend with moving, I did manage to paint up two more Eldar (built five, actually, one more is halfway through being painted and the other two are primed). On top of that, I found an all metal Space Marine Dreadnought for $10 at the FLGS (which I bought) and built my Reconguista in G Elf Bullock kit and the Build Fighters Hi-Mock kits. There was a bit of disappointment with the two Gundam kits. The Hi-Mock's biceps and thigh segments are supposed to be a lighter shade of green, but they were in the same shade of green as the rest of the kit, which means I'll need to paint if I want the details right. The Elf Bullock was more disappointing though because the kit is WAY too small. In the show, the Elf Bullock was probably about twice the size of the G-Self, but the kit is the same size. Very disappointing that they scaled it down so much.

Anyway, you don't care about that. Pics of my Dark Eldar!

I really like the Dark Lance figure. She's cool looking.

And together with the original test figure.

I'm thinking that once I get the two replacement warriors, I'm going to try and expand the list to a simple 500pts. So, I know I need an HQ option and I'm thinking of getting an Archon. Problem is, I don't like the current plastic one very much. He's just kind of standing there in an awkward pose. I like the previous version a lot, but the metal doesn't seem to be that easy to get for a reasonable price and I really don't want the Finecast version. So, I'm thinking that, as an alternative, this Anima Tactics figure might make a great Archon with pretty much no modifications.

I think about all I'd need to do is ditch the shadow things.

Yeah drop the shadowy scything talons (but save for haemonculus or similar) and maybe handswap him a pistol, blade, or both. If that won't look good maybe belt them on instead.

I think he'd look quite fetching in your scheme.

Please sir, I beg, don't make me run out and buy dark eldar. I really don't want more and I know I won't come up with a sexy scheme like yours that I could be happy with.

No no, you should buy more Haqqislam instead.

I was thinking that if I do get him, I might put a holstered gun and sword on his hip or something just so I can have WYSIWYG. I do kind of like his laughing maniacally pose. Seems fitting for a Dark Eldar.

Also, I have plans for a Haemonculus. If I get one, I'm going to use a Warmachine Cephalyx. They're damn near perfect. Any one of those guys is an absolutely perfect stand in with absolutely no modding needed. Some of their Drudges would work really well as Grotesques, too.

Two more Kabalites down! Two more to go and hopefully the final two will show up Saturday.

As usual, the lighting at my parents' house sucks, so finding a decent spot to take pictures (especially when everyone else is asleep) is hard to do. So, these pics are going to have to do for now.

Knife guy is actually a slight conversion, His left arm was originally the one holding the Shard Cannon's top grip. I trimmed it down and drilled a hole, cut one of the loose knives in half and trimmed down the grip enough to fit into the hand. Inserted both knife bits and voila! Badass reverse grip knife guy!

The last two are just about nearly done. I put the banner on one of them, but I have no clue what to put on it. I was thinking that since I used samurai crests for my craftworld guys, I should do something similar for these ones. I was leaning towards using a Japanese city flag logo, possibly Nagoya's. Not sure yet. Or, I suppose I could try scribbling jagged lines onto it and say it's a rune. We'll see.

To be honest, I'm not sure that I'll do anything with their bases. I'm actually totally fine just leaving them grey like that.

Tonight my order from Blackdagger Games arrived. Got my Dreadnought base and I got my two replacement Dark Eldar. So, they're it now. They're all I have left to do and soon my Kabalites will finally be fully painted (after sitting for a couple of years in a box). Downside though, I wanted all of these guys wearing helmets. I used the last of my helmets on these two girls and Blackdagger gave me one with a bare head. Boo. That dude just had to go and be non-conformist.

So, we've got Moai Head/crown of thorns girl

and the "I can't paint freehand worth a damn" girl

And together they are.... standing there!

So, yeah. I suck at freehand. I'll probably paint over that logo with something else eventually. What I'd settled on for an insignia is actually one that some Hordes Skorn models feature. Reason I chose to use it is because I picked up some Skorne models. Can you guess why? Heh, it looks like I'll be proxying some of my HQ and Elites. Skorne's overall styling and much of their fluff actually fit in surprisingly well with the Dark Eldar. I've decided that I'm going to use some Skorne Praetorians (with headswaps) as counts-as Incubi and if I can scrounge up some non-liquid Green Stuff, I'll be converting Archdomina Makeda to be a counts-as Drazhar. The conversions I plan will be simple, really just being headswaps for the Incubi and adding the back trophy racks and probably just sculpting a faceplate for Drazhar, but they should work fairly well and actually be cheaper than buying the actual GW figures.

Crap, I found another Anima Tactics figure that could work well for the Archon. High Arbiter Alastor.

So, opinions? Him, or Ophiel?

Barzam Paints random miniatures- 6/30/2020 Dusk Raider Thunder Warrior Sniper @ 2015/03/06 14:51:06

Post by: GrimDork

Thats kind of a tough call... I wanna say Ophiel but that guy totally has a sword that would be good at representing the various nastiness that an Archon is liable to take...

Something about him though, the way the armor is done the other guy almost looks more dark eldary... although if you want closed helmets maybe go with the sword guy anyway.

Freehand looks fine to me, its not golden demon quality but it makes sense and is relatively clean.

I suppose I could get both and use use as a Dracon. I like the fact that Alastor has the full helm and cape a lot. If I got Ophiel, I feel like I'd need to at least give him a cape. I figure with Ophiel though, I actually can keep his shadow monsters and use them to physically represent a Shadow Field and whatever bladed weapon I choose for him.

Thanks. Maybe I'm just not a good judge of my own work.

I asked my dad which of the two Anima guys I should use as my Archon. He at first said Alastor, but then changed his mind and said to get both. So, maybe I will just get both.

Surprisingly enough, I did not work on Dark Eldar tonight. NO, I'll finish them up tomorrow. Instead, I decided to take a little break from them and clear away a couple of other figures from my queue. This time I returned to an old favorite that I haven't worked on in a long while, Menoth. My dad picked up a blister of two Deliverers from Brookhurst for a couple bucks a while back and I decided to get to them tonight.

I actually breezed right through them, surprisingly. Their colors aren't easy to paint, but for once, they gave me no hassle.

Yeah, I know there's only four. The fifth was actually painted to go along with my Relictors back when I got the set, so now he's packed away with everything else in storage. There were enough parts to at least make the entire upper body of the missile launcher guy though. If I can score some spare Scout legs for him, I'll add him. Until then, though, this is the whole team.

I looked at that March painting challenge, and I may enter it with a Dreadnought. I think I can entire with just the one, right?

I did see them. They look really good. Those old metals seem to have a lot more personality to them than the plastic ones. I'm also kind of surprised that GW actually sculpted one of them actually wearing the respirator. I don't think I've ever seen that one a non-biker Scout.

I wanted to post up a quick update on my Dreadnought. I've got the base colors all finished now. Next step is the dip.

Here's a WIP shot from last night. The left arm wasn't actually painted up yet, just had some splotches thrown on it.

And here's from this morning. All base coats are done, some decals applied, base started. Next step, finish the base and then dip.

Where are you painting? There's so many bottles of paint there. I thought you packed everything up as it was.

Unless those are our dad's paints while you're crashing there...

I have that Dark Eldar codex by the way, if you want me to bring it Saturday.

That's actually my table and paints. I didn't put them into storage so I'd be able to actually use them.

I need to pick up some standard Marine Scouts at some point to join the rest of my Marines.

Based on the Dreadnought, it seems a Old WWII vibe is what your Marines are using.

Agreed. It looks great. I'd love to see something like a Warlord Games 28mm Jeep painted up with a Marine driver and gunner and a Plasma Cannon or Heavy Bolter on the weapon mount as an Attack Bike!

I was going for more of a WWII vibe on them. The attack bike idead is pretty good. What size base would it go on though?

Think you might struggle to get a marine or two in a warlord games 28mm jeep

Given a GW minis weird proportions you'd probably need to look at a 1/35 jeep to get them to fit

The tamiya 1/35 Willis jeep is the right width but a bit too long to use as an attack bike. (I used one for a IG jeep a while ago)

If I were to use Scouts though, I might be able to use it as a Landspeeder Storm.

Figured I'd post an update on my Dreadnought, this time with decent lighting. I've applied decals and weathered them. Probably some time this weekend I'll get it dipped.

And here's my current assortment of finished military styled Space Marines. My Master of Relics would join them, but he's stashed away in Storage.

I really like that scheme for them, something about the olive drab just goes well with the grimdarkness of the models.

I would probably a fair few space marines done if I just paintd up whichever as it looks like you're doing. Or well it looks like you have a unit of terminators and almost of scouts... but y 'know w/e. Same thing, If I just painted one or two at a time.

Very effective scheme though, and obviously not salamanders.

Way back in the day, when we used to play 40k, my Dad painted some Space Marines and Rafm not-space marines as Salamanders in a scheme very similar to this one. I'm pretty sure their pre-Heresy scheme is more like this one, actually.

Went by the FLGS after seeing Chappie and low and behold, grabbed myself a Furioso Dread. Gonna carve off the BA insignias and probably paint it in a simple camo scheme.

That's the idea.

Got my Furioso mostly done now. Base coats are all down. Need to apply decals, then weather. And I need a base. Speaking of, I should have a couple supply drops coming soon. One from FRP, and another from Ebay. Once I get that Ebay one, I'll be able to base my Dread and finish my Scout team.

I know vehicles are not the big thing here but I finally went through making that 3rd Hammer APC, whew! Hoping paint will help it.

Speaking of paint, I also am seriously in awe of the way the decals look so battered as well on the dready

It's actually a very simple technique. Just tear a bit of sponge, and with the jagged edge, dip it in your basecoat paint, wipe off the excess as if you were going to drybrush with it, and just dab the basecoat lightly over the decal. I also use the technique for the overall weathering.

Speaking of, my Furioso is now done. Well, it needs a base, but aside from that, it's actually finished.

Chassis no. 54, attached to First Company. Includes a little bit of personal heraldry on the left arm featuring a striking lion.

And alongside chassis no. 18.

54's base is due supposedly by Monday. We'll see. I'll see if I can get some better pics this weekend with some better lighting so you can actually see the decals (and the fact that they're weathered).

Take away the glowy energy blades, give them a nice drab color scheme and ding them up a bit.. perfect.

Well, probably wasn't a good thing, but I made a couple orders. Ordered some figures from Warlord, and placed another FRP one this morning. Snagged another cheap Sefadu dude, a Reaper werewolf "Rager", and the Haqqislam Ghulam hacker that I've been wanting for some time. Snagged him for a whopping $1.40. Warlord is sending me a surrendering German, a Propaganda Company German, and a lone Algoryn.

What? I didn't order anything that was on my birthday list. Plus, I've been wanting that Ghulam and the Sefadu guys. And I've been wanting to expand my Germans and try out a Gates of Antares figure.

Surprise of surprises, my Ebay bits showed up, which means I've finished my Furioso Dread. I'll have pics of him up whenever I can take some in decent lighting.

In other news, I've painted some things.

Paradigm's recent work on his PanO Knights inspired me to get working on mine, so I painted two of them up. Dip to come.

I also kitbashed and painted up some Pig Iron infantry.

And I slapped some paint on some Proxie guys as well.

Those pig iron guys look like they would make good stand ins for a 28mm dropzone commander PHR force.

If your still thinking of of getting a Jeep conversion done here's a pic I managed to find of my sentinel conversion using a 1/35 willies jeep to see the size you'd be working with.

Shaso, those figures come from Proxie Models. They're not very detailed, but they're quite cheap. If you ever needed to fill a table with cheap fodder troopers, theirs work quite well for that.

Joerugby, that's pretty cool. I bet it would work with Space Marines if I used Scouts. Definitely an idea I'm going to hang onto for later.

Yep, the very same. i have one of their buildings around someplace. Probably in storage with everything else. I was a little disappointed to learn that they don't really match up with Deadzone buildings though.

Anyway, the Furioso is 100% done. I'm very pleased with him.

I just dipped the other one along with a bunch of other metal earth toned guys today, too. So, hopefully I'll have my other Dread finished in a couple days as well.

I've got my Order Sergeants nearly done (though not the Specialist). Pics of them to come on the weekend once I finish them. I'd have them done already, but I'm splitting my time between painting them and working on an Armored Core kit I got over the holidays. I'll post pics of that when it's done, too.

Just got my Warlord order today. Should be fun to paint some Germans again. The casting on them looks pretty good. These will be my first Warlord metals, so I'm looking forward to working on them. I also got an Algoryn with the two Germans. He doesn't seem as huge as others have said they are. I can't decide what colors to give him though. I'll either go with a blackish stealthy look, or paint him to match my Combined Army.

I wound up canceling my order earlier in the week from FRP due to them not having some of the stuff I wanted in stock anymore. So, I used the refunded money to purchase Ophiel and Alastor both from Miniature Market. Lucky me, I got the last Ophiel, too. So, now I'll have two choices for my Archon. Though, I suppose I could use Alastor as a Dracon.

pics are kind of rushed. Hopefully I can get some better ones later this weekend.

Here's the Warlord figures I got. The sculpts are all very nicely done.

I noticed a few rather large mold lines on the Algoryn (after I'd gotten him painted, of course), so his casting could've been a bit better. however, the Germans were pretty much flawless and have very detailed sculpts. My biggest criticism of the Bolt Action figures though would be that their hands are kind of blobby.

The Algoryn, btw, is about as tall as my old style Sogarat

Speaking of Infinity, I've been working on these three off and on all week.

The specialist is sitting on my table right now and once he's done, I can finally dip all of my PanO and get them finished. The Specialist will have a slightly different scheme from the regular Order Sergeants though, that way I can easily identify him.

it would be easy enough to do since the plastics don't have their weapons molded into their hands. Just get some loose las rifles and you're good to go.

He used the actual rifles that came with the sprues as his "Germania Pattern' Las Rifles. The GW sp[ecial weapons were an issue size wise.

Well, that sounds like he was just fielding regular Germans then. C'mon, you gotta space-ify them up just a bit.

My update for you guys tonight, I have a few finished items and some better pics of those WIPs from yesterday.

Converted Bagh Mari

This was an HMG Bagh Mari originally, but I converted him into a standard Combi type. I have two more of those Scibor bases, so I'm hoping that eventually after I've moved, I can grab two more Bagh Mari to mount onto them.

A slightly better shot of the Order Sergeants.

A MUCH better shot of the Bolt Action Germans.

I did eventually get the Scout legs I needed to finish up my Space Marine Scout squad, so now I've got pics of the whole team finished up.

Lastly, I completed the Dreadnought for the March painting challenge.
