His card has his name pronounced "Teitus."
I actually quite like the figures. The swappable heads is a really nice feature. I hope they do more squads from other chapters in the future.

Related, I noticed that there does seem to be a push from GW in Japan. Hobby Japan, which as far as I know is one of the country's top hobby magazines has been running features on GW products for a few months now. The latest issue has a big feature on a Stardrake and Ogroid Thaumaturge from AOS that HJ's staff painted as well as an article showcasing the sculpts and casts of GW's plastic kits. They're also running a Space Marine Heroes painting competition. So, hopefully an issue will soon have the results from that.

In unrelated news, I'm back to painting. I painted a Guild Drill Sergeant from Malifaux. Mythird Malifaux figure so far. Unfortunately, my laptop's battery is pretty much dead, so I'm stuck using my phone for photos.

Oh, I opened them. I even built one. I found them at Yodabashi Camera. I actually found them cheaper at Amiami's brick & mortar shop in Akihabara, but I only grabbed a couple.

Here's the one I assembled. They're all snap together kits and they all have swappable heads.

Spoiler:

This guy is Brother Titus. He's posed mid reload. Each figure comes with a unique stat card and bio. Weirdly, the stats are completely different from actual 40k stats.

The bio is totally in Japanese, of course.

Oh sick how is he next to a normal marine?

Oh, they're exactly the same size as regular Space Marines. Maybe they're ever so slightly taller due to actually standing up and not doing GW's usual Space Marine poop squat, but there's no scale difference,l. They'll fit right in with any regular Space Marine squads. I think they'd actually be perfect for RPGs or skirmish gaming.

Anyway, I finished a Buccaneer Warjack last night. I got this guy cheap at Brookhurst's Black Friday sale. He may be useful in Company of Iron, should I ever get a chance to play it.

More cruddy phone pics, ahoy! I'm supposed to be getting a new battery for my laptop on Saturday, so hopefully I won't have to rely on my phone for pics too much longer.

Anyway, I finished the other four members of my GCPS Ranger squad. I think I ought to probably add a color swatch to them to identify their squad.

I also just finished up my Brother Vinni Ibram Gaunt figure, which I gave to my dad.

I got my computer's new battery, so that means I can post pics from my camera again! Hurray for somewhat better pictures!

First up, we have another survivor figure from the Phalanx Consortium's Skirmish Ragers. This is another figure from the Kickstarter. I have no idea if these will ever see retail.

As you can see, I tried to paint a plaid shirt for him, but I'm not very good at it.

Next, we have Desperate Mercenary sculpt #2 from the Outcast faction from Malifaux. Her pose is... odd. I tried to keep her paint scheme as close to the studio scheme as I could.

And last, but not least, we have the promised naked fat guy, Killjoy. He's also from Malifaux. Apparently he's a Neverborn, but he's actually a part of the Outcast faction. I'm actually very happy with how he came out. The pics don't show some of the color shifts in his skin, unfortunately. I really like how he came out though. He looks kind of like he could be that Easy Build Plague Champion outside of his armor. Could probably even work for a somewhat small sized Nurgle Daemon Prince. He's on a 60mm base, I think.

Big Malifaux's always on 50mm. Same as Privateer stuff. Like I said, I'm going to use that Skin n' Moans Grymkin for a standin Killjoy unless I ever get a plastic one.

Merc came out well. She'd make a good post apoc figure.

I'll dig around and see if I can find that Guild Guard's arm for you, in case you don't just come up with your own.

Maybe it's time we actually bust out those "This is not a test" rules you let me borrow and has been languishing on my shelf?

Killjoy did turn out nicely.

Careful with getting any Wyrd plastic minis. Fiddly and tiny bits... Ugh. Not fun to assemble.

Wyrd's plastics aren't that bad.

I just built a human sized Kingdom Death model that had separate thumbs for each hand. INDIVIDUAL THUMBS.

Not even Wyrd is that insane... yet.

Nurgle has seen fit to bless me with one of his gifts this week, so I haven't been able to get a lot done. Maybe he was displeased that I wasn't working on more Plague Marines? Somehow, I did manage to finish up my Idrian Chieftain.

I am working on some more Malifaux stuff though. Highlord Tambulaine has given me a bunch of Wyrd's old metals. So, I'm slowly trying to clear those out of my queue. As far as Malifaux goes, I have a Guild Exorcist and an Insidious Madness up next.

I saw Idrian and misread it as Idiran. Now ,those would make for some cool minis. Well done Barzam. It painted up well.

Ah, I gather that you are unfamiliar with the Smoke & Mirrors box set in general (released 2 years ago), and specifically the one mannequin which does indeed have separate fingers/blades. Wyrd is indeed that insane. (Here's the link https://i.imgur.com/479tgvc.jpg)

Well, I got those three webshop Gundam kits built and completed a few figures before the end of the year.

I may as well start with the best of the bunch. This is a Goritsi Skorza Shieldbreaker, from CMON's Wrath of Kings.

My biggest complaint, aside from my glue not bonding him to the base very well, would be that his fur turned out darker than I'd intended. This guy, I should also note, I've had sitting, unpainted on my painting table for at least two years now. I'm so happy to finally have him finished. Maybe it'll even get me to work on more Wrath of Kings?

Following my badass armored werewolf, we have the miniscule Squire 'jack from Warmachine. I got this guy from BobtheInquisitor, so thanks for this. He'll be my new mini-construct for Frostgrave. I think he fits the role far better than the Bonejacks I have do.

Next, we have the Kickstarter exclusive Major Chard from Mantic's Warpath Kickstarter. This figure is metal. I quite like her sculpt, but there was a mold line running right down her face, which gave me some issues.

Lastly, we have another survivor miniature from Phalanx Copnsortium's Skirmish Ragers Kickstarter. This time, a body armored cop with a pump action shotgun.

Not the most interesting figure I've painted, but I'm not going to complain about having more police miniatures.

The previous figures I posted were actually all completed in December, so until last night, I hadn't finished any figures in 2018 yet. Today, I present the first figure of the year, Eilish Garrity, the Occultist.

Garrity was included with the first issue of No Quarter Prime. He's a fully resin figure and is supposed to be a part of Privateer's premium monthly figure line. I actually quite like him. The sculpt is very nice and crisp. I figured he could join Menoth too. Put his occult knowledge to their use. So, he's likely to become a new Sorcerer for my Frostgrave Menoth crew.

Okay, today we have the Herald of Blood, Hestra Nostrollo. She is a Goritsi vampire character and the leader of the Blood Dancers from CMON's Wrath of Kings. Believe it or not, this figure is actually the one that got me to back the Kickstarter to begin with. The fact that her faction was made up of Confrontation Wolfen as well was just icing on top.

What did you use for the base? Doesn't look like your normal style. Then again I think you ordered some base toppers during the campaign, didn't you?

She came out well. Maybe I'll have to paint mine to compete. I should have her somewhere. Somehow ended up with all the Goritisi heroes....

The base is one of CMON's base toppers. To be honest, these ones aren't the best since they don't really give a flat spot to mount the figures onto.

Thanks. I wish more people on here were willing to branch out into collecting other lines. There's some great minis out there.

Last night, while setting up my new computer, I finished my Guild Exorcist from Malifaux.

I'm hoping to run a pretty basic Guild crew and I really like the looks of the metal Guild minis. The nice thing about them is that they have some cross compatibility with other game systems, like Dracula's America or Fear and Faith. This guy will make a great Vampire Hunter.

It's been a slow week for me, but I got three guys finished.

First, a Lieutenant for my Raptors.

Then, I finally got the last of my converted Plague Marines finished.

And finally, I got an HQ for my Plague Marines! The Malignant Plaguecaster.

As you can see, no tiny, squishy baby face on him and no cloud of filth. I did a bit of converting since I really didn't like his face and the cloud would've looked odd without his exposed face. I wish I had some better bells to have him ring, but these get the job done. I actually really like this figure now. The weird baby face was really off putting.

Conversion came out good. You should've mentioned needing bells- I probably have a few leftover Blightking ones you could've used.

Where'd his head originate?

Barzam Paints random miniatures- 6/30/2020 Dusk Raider Thunder Warrior Sniper @ 2018/01/11 18:08:26

Post by: Barzam

The head came from the Plague Marine that has all of the bells hanging off him and looks like he's running. It was the guy that is now dual weilding a sword and Plague Knife. When I carved him up, I made sure to keep his head as intact as possible. The Caster's bells came from that guy, too. I had to do some serious carving to get that helmet to fit under the hood.

Post by: Barzam

Ha nope. That's actually the pre-primed plastic one from NECA/Wizkids. My picture actually does the sculpt more justice than it deserves. You wouldn't know it from this pic, but it's actually covered in really bad mold lines. I would say they're probably worse than a lot of Bones figures' mold lines. There's little gaps all over him from where his bits were glued together in the factory, too. I will admit though, the option to have his eye stalks firing laser beams is pretty cool.

Got a few 15mm space goblins paint up. These are the usual Ion Age Maligs. First guy you've actually seen before, only with a tan uniform.

We have one in a very basic pose

Lastly, we have one that's smoking.

These Ion Age goblins have really grown on me. For 15mm miniatures, they have a ton of personality to them. I think next I'll be working on the Beotan Lycantrhopes, another Shian Khan auxiliary force from Ion Age.

I got a bunch of Stage 3 Plague Mutants in my Crazy Box and while doing some cleaning, I realized I had quite a few I just simply hadn't actually painted yet. So, I wound up starting a trio of Plague Mutants to be used as Chaos Cultists with my Plague Marines. I'd say they fit the bill quite nicely for hanging out with them. All of the spines and spikes and weirdly elongated bodies helps tie them in with the Pox Walkers.

I said I was working on my Beotan Lycanthropes from Ion Age, and I have been. Most of them are nearly done. I completed two already.

Here's a regular trooper, armed with a Maia MPI smg

and here's the squad leader with a scouter,a Maia and a Cupid pistol.

I'm not completely ignoring 28mm though. I completed a Republic Commando sniper from Anvil's Afterlife series.

Here's a case of my poor lighting striking once again. All the colors sort of blend together in this shot, but his rifle casing has an off-white coloring with metallic barrel. His armor is khaki, while his undersuit is a lighter shade of grey.

Two desk lamps. Two daylight 60W equivalent CFL bulbs. Use the right setting on the camera. Easy peasy. If you need a diffuser a piece of cloudy plastic works... like those sterilite containers have.

Smokin' Space Goblin FTW!

Part of my problem with photography is that I just don't have a good space to take photos at my house. If I had a large enough space, I would try that out, Red Harvest.

I was somewhat productive this weekend. Painted up another Plague Mutant from Mantic.

I also completed the rest of the Beotan Lycantrhope squad.

I also received an order which had my latest Khanage reinforcements. This was another Psychoborg robot, a heavy weapons system for the Khanate, some artillery bases, and a freebie Duxis battlesuit. I managed to get the heavy weapon and its crew painted up already.

This is the Selene Portable Weapons Platform and its crew. This variant is equipped for anti-infantry.

I should have the artillery base for it finished tonight and I'll be starting on some robots and mecha next.

Actually, Ion Age was originally a 28mm line back in the 90s. The old models are still available. I've painted a couple of the 28mm Prydian Retained and Shia Khan Legionnaires. The Shia Khan Legionnaires and Maligs are both available in 28mm, too. So, if you want some pulpy Rogue Trader-ish space figures, they're still around.

Same here. My dad used to work near a hobby/gaming shop and would frequently buy miniatures for me and my brothers. He used to get us figures from RAFM, Denizen, and Ral Partha. He once bought me a set of Prydian Retained with rocket launchers. I thought Legion of the Damned looked cool at the time, so he painted my Prydians in their colors. Got an update. We'll start with the sci-fi stuff.

I finished the pair of Stryx Recon Mechs from White Dragon Miniatures that my brother got me over the holidays.

I have another Proteus combat mech to accompany them, but I haven't assembled it yet. It's up next in the queue.

Next we have Landmates. Yes, Landmates. Like the ones from Appleseed. Very clearly based on the Guges model, too.

These are also 15mm models. They're produced by Darkest Star Miniatures who have a small range that is very heavily influenced by Masamune Shirow's various works. They're the company that made my 15mm Briareos Hecatonchires figure. They also make several variants of Not-Tachikomas and Not-Fuchikomas and another type of Landmate.

Next, I painted another Psychoborg robot for my Ion Age Khanate forces. He's the exact same type as my other one, so I slightly reposed him for a bit of variety. Unfortunately, the Psychoborgs come with a random loadout, so I had no choice in what I got.

Now, onto fantasy. I picked up some fantasy minis on Saturday with the express purpose of reselling them once they were painted. The experiment with the Beholden was a success, so I figured I'd try it again.

This time, we have an armored skeleton. I believe he's called a Barrow Warden? He's a Reaper Bones figure.

Then we have some Mimics. These are from the Wizkids line.

I wouldn't really call it a fair comparison. I had three figures with simple color schemes that didn't need assembly or priming versus your seven multipart figures that needed priming and most likely need to be painted in broken dow. Assemblies. Your guys will need way more work than these three.

I did a fair bit of work on my Astagar tank last night. Aside from the tracks, the whole chassis of the tank is complete. Unfortunately, this is a cell phone photo, so the edge highlights, washes, and drybrushing are of course totally not visible. Tonight I'll get the tracks done and seal the chassis. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get the turret completed, too.

The werewolves are new. They just got released in December. This month they're releasing mono-wheel mini-tanks for the Khanate.

I finished up another Duxis battlesuit for my Prydians. This is a swordsman variant. I don't know what I was going for with the shield. Just trying freehand, I guess.

Following that, I finished my Astagar tank from Critical Mass.

Not sure why snakemen would use a regular tracked tank, but there we are. Not that I actually own any Astagar. This baby is going to whoever I may be using at any given time. It's a pretty chunky tank, too. I love its overall design and I kind of wish I could get at least one more. Critical Mass closed shop pretty much after the Astagar Kickstarter delivered and now Ral Partha Europe owns the whole line. So far, they haven't made most of the vehicles for sale, so I'm out of luck getting a second tank.

Also painted Saturday night, a Mantic Marauder Ripper suit. This is a Deadzone 1.0 model, so I've had him awaiting paint for a long time. It's about time I finished him.

I did prime the other aripper suit Marauder, too. So, I'll be working on that guy as well. I'll probably dedicate more time to Radhrad tonight.

I finally got Chief Radgrad finished. He might be a bit underwhelming, visually, but that's fine by me. I'm just glad to have him finished.

Dude is solid metal, in a running pose, and has no tab to fix him to his base. Mantic needs to stop doing that. They did it with Hund and it sucked for him, too. Radgrad was worse though because he had a habit of exploding on me. Parts were constantly falling off. There were some casting issues, too. Most of the attachment points just didn't fit together right. You'll also notice that big ass seam running down his leg. These casting issues seemed to have plagued most of my Deadzone 1.0 metals in one way or another. Thank God the metals I've purchased since from them haven't had these problems. Radgrad could really use a new plastic sculpt.

Also completed was my second Proteus combat mech from White Dragon Miniatures. This one is armed with a battle cannon and honestly, I think it would look better on the body of the minigun variant. Still, a cool mech and I don't mind having more giant robots.

You should do a size comparison with the White Dragon mech and some 15mm guys. I couldn't get a good idea of how big it was when it was in the baggy.

Different loadout and no radar, but the minigun type is the exact same size as the cannon type.

I haven't been able to do much this past week. My house had water damage that needed to be repaired in tge room where you do my painting. So, that left my painting stuff inaccessible for a full week. Now I have Jury Duty, so I wasn't able to post new pictures this morning of the figures I completed over the weekend. So, please make do with the cell phone pics of the first of my Custodes Wardens that I completed.

[/url

Since Highlord Tamburlaine painted his Custodes first and did them in their standard colors, I had to do something to differentiate mine. I certainly couldn't use the same standard colors. I liked the scheme for the Shadow Keepers a lot, plus their fluff is interesting. It won't show up in my photos at all, but his armor is not actually black. It's a very dark gunmetal. When the light catches it just right, you can see the metallic sheen. It looks neat in person, but I don't think I'll be able to capture the effect in a photo.

I really like how they look in black. From what I've seen, they look really good in white, too. Here's the other two with the guy I'd already finished.

I should have their last "trooper" and their Shield Captain finished tonight. Then I need to take some individual shots.

Now, somewhat random, I painted a lone Lamenter Primaris Marine.

This is the one that was included with the Getting Started with 8th Edition book. I've always liked the Lamenter scheme, so I thought I'd challenge myself with painting it. It's not the best, but that's because there's a fair bit of freehand to do on him. That checkerboard should pad sucked to paint.

Well, it looks good. So does the freehand emoji chapter symbol. I'm also impressed with the solid, rich yellow. How did you achieve it?

The Custodes look great in that color scheme, but like the villain from Hudson Hawk, I find GOLD will always be GOLD.

The trick to painting yellow is similar to the trick to painting black or white, don't actually paint those colors. The color I used is actually a very yellow shade of brown. It's a Vallejo Games Color paint called Scrofluous Brown, or something to that effect. Since it isn't a true yellow paint, I don't get those weird issues most yellows tend to have. The highlight I used is Yellow Ochre, which, for an actual yellow paint is a surprisingly good one. It's nice and thick and has good coverage.

I finished the last two Custodes Wardens last night. Now I can move on to something else. Probably back to Mantic for a bit.

@Barzam - is there a reason you don't use pure yellow (or white) as the final edge highlight?

Barzam Paints random miniatures- 6/30/2020 Dusk Raider Thunder Warrior Sniper @ 2018/02/22 18:18:55

Not really. I really don't like doing edge highlights, so I tend to avoid them. Too time consuming and I'm generally not happy with my line work. So, I tend to just keep it simple with one highlight layer when I actually do edge highlights. I admit, it would probably look better if I actually did do the second highlight. Maybe I'll try it when I do my Space Marine Heroes.

Okay, I'm finally done with my next project. I haven't been posting updates because I've been working on vehicles. Yep, I just finished a pair of Predator tanks for my Raptors.

First, we have the currently unnamed las tank. This baby was actually a salvage that I got from BobtheInquisitor.

Technically, the tank is done. However, before I can consider it truly finished, it needs a name and some artwork. I won't be happy until I get some pinup art on it.

The next tank does have a name and accompanying pinup art (the art is nsfw btw). This tank is called Pistol Packin' Mama and is armed with an autocannon turret and las cannon sponsons.

And here's the art.

You have any spare headlights/ lamps? I accidentally tossed the ones that go at the top of the treads on the land raider and have no clue how I should deal with it, leaving my tank for the Custodes unfinished.

I like the Pistol Packin' Mama. We'll need some Nurgle tanks to counter them.

Sadly, no spare headlights. That's why the top one doesn't have any.

I approve of the names, but wouldn't Pustule Poppin' Papa be better? Also, Junk in the Trunk should totally be the name of a Nurgle tank. It should have artwork of a Nurgling twerking.

Speaking of asses, there was a P-51 with the nickname Iron Ass back in WWII. It's noseart was of a donkey with a metal butt. That seems pretty fitting for a tank. If I can get the decal, I'm totally naming the top tank Iron Ass.

I'm sure it'll sell.

I tend to average 10 to 15 per human figure, depending on how much work I put into it. I've gotten away with more on some of the Pathfinder Iconics though. Might be worth giving them a shot, but they're older Bones models and a bit soft on detail.

In preparation for painting my mechs from the WHISPER Kickstarter, I painted up a Griffin mech from Conflict Horizon.

Funny enough, it's just about the same size as the Sokar from WHISPER. For colors on this one, I felt like I've been painting too many of my mechs and vehicles in earth tones, so I decided to try something different. None of my mechs are grey, so I thought that would be a good choice. I ended up going with the Macross VF-1S Skull Leader pallette of grey, black, and yellow. Obviously, I didn't use the same patterns or color layout. I'm happy with the results though. It's a stark contrast to my previous Griffin, which was camouflaged. The yellow isn't too over done, either. Just enough to make it pop.

So, took a little while, but I did paint two of the orange WHISPER mechs. Actually, I've got three of my four WHISPER mechs finished. The fourst, a kneeling Sokar will have to wait a bit since I won't be able to work on him for a few days.

So, here's the first, the Bastet, which is a command type, apparently.

Then we have a Sokar, a basic troop type armed with a heavy railgun.

Here's my favorite of the bunch, the Raptor. It's supposed to be an older model mech. Obviously, it's intended to be a high speed aerial type mech. I really hope there's some more poses planned for these. It's hard to tell, but the Raptor uses two shades of blue with a sort of dazzle pattern coloring on it. Unfortunatley, the darker blue does kind of blend into the lighter blue.

And for those interested, I took a few size comparison photos, too.

Here's the Bastet vs a Reiver/Primaris.

Compared to some of my other 15mm mechs.

And lastly, compared to some 15mm figures.

Last, something less interesting than small scale giant robots, here's a zombie apocalypse survivor decked out in kendo gear!

Orc Warrior.

Orc Slicer

Crusader Cleric

The orcs look good enough, I'm confident they'll sell. Hopefully there's someone out there who's too lazy to paint and wants to play a heavily armored cleric.

I finally got around to painting a Maelstrom's Edge figure! One out of over 40. I think what's kept me from even touching these figures so far has been that I couldn't decide on a color scheme. I'd been mulling a black, white, and a yellow scheme for a long time, but I finally decided it'd be too much of a pain in the butt to paint. So, I settled on another favorite of mine, industrial yellow!

It's hard to see since his gun is in the way, but he's got a black vest with bluish-grey straps. The coveralls are obviously yellow, his fatigues underneath are light grey, and I decided to go with orange for the rigid armor bits. You can't see them very well, but there's hazard chevrons on the orange bits. I'm not sure what that bit on his back is supposed to be, so I thought It'd be a little creative with it. I decided to make it look like one of those vital readout things people in Dead Space wear on their backs. As you can see, he's at full health.

Naturally, immediately after I finished him, I had a thought for a different scheme. Keep the light grey undersuit, orange coveralls, bone white armor and straps, black vest, black hat. It's a scheme I was thinking about using whenever I wind up with a Genestealer cult. If I painted my Epirians to match, I could intermix them. I suppose I could just paint some of these guys in that scheme. Would it be weird to have an army of conscripted industrial workers in two differently colored uniforms?

Someday, if I ever get around to it, I'd also like to try customizing these guys with Anvil Industry bits. I find the arms on the kit to be the weakest point. Too short and oddly posed. Plus, they're all short sleeved. I bet they'd look good with some of Anvil's long sleeved fatigue arms and their boxier looking shoulder pads.

Well, the Beholders were sold for around $30 - $35 apiece. I paid $6. The human sized figures I've sold so far have gone for around $15 or so. My dwarf and Purple Worm so far haven't garnered much interest though, sadly. I can churn a figure out in a night if it's the only thing I work on. It took me two nights to get all three of this latest bunch done.

I got my final WHISPER mech finished last night, too. Glad he's done. He was the toughest to do because of his pose. This one is a Sokar armed with a Noob Tube.

That's right folks, we're going to start this update off with a bang. I present to you, Reaper's "Dwarf Slaver."

What about this guy is a "slaver?" What even is this figure? Why is he wearing a thong? Why does he have thigh high boots on, with a thing? Why is he wearing an executioner's hood? Why does he have one piece of armor on his toe? This dude's nipples are also super pointy. I'm sure you wanted to know that. And yes, I painted his thong red specifically to draw your attention there. I plan on using him at every opportunity just because he's so out there.

I also completed a couple of Icarus Miniatures' Nexus aliens. I like these guys, but they always feel really fragile in my hands.

This one is armed with an LMG while the other is one of their feral cousins. Apparently, the Nexus military must capture a bunch of their tribal society members and force them into military servitude as cannon fodder. They just run up at their enemies with a pistol and some knives.

This update will be a little different since this isn't exactly a miniature or a model. I recently came across what seems to be a relatively unknown line of toy mecha and soldiers out of China that is more than a little influenced by the Titanfall games. There's probably a bit of Halo, Gears of War, and Lost Planet in that inspiration, too. There's not much info about the series in English, but, as far as I can tell, the line is called Dark Source (I think) and it is made by a company called Joy Toy. The line is scaled at 1/27, but they actually seem to be perfectly in scale with Kotobukiya's Hexa Gear model line. So, maybe if you're interested in some cross compatibility, it's definitely there.

So, looking to test the waters with this line as well as Aliexpress, I decided to take the plunge and order one of the robots. The one I ordered was called "Iron Skeleton." Here's his promo photo.

So, I just got him today after about 23 days of waiting. The box was a little dinged up, but no problem since the toy was fine and I wasn't going to keep the box anyway. First thing I noticed about him, he's not that bright yellow that the picture shows, he's actually more of a desert yellow color. The kind of color you'd see on a US tank in Iraq or Afghanistan. This is actually one of the smaller mechs in the line. Most of the piloted ones clock in at around 10 inches or so. Oh, and I'll apologize in advance for the poor lighting. I don't have good lighting at my house and I'm only really ever able to take pics at night, so they're kind of dark and have shadows over them.

Ruler provided for scaling. As you can see, he's about 6 inches to the top of his backpack. And for additional scaling reference...

Here's I've got him standing alongside several different scales. To the left, a 1/12 scale Stormtrooper. He's around 6 inches, so about on par with the top of the mech's backpack. Under his feet, we have a 1/56 scale Space Marine Scout. This thing will make a nice mech for 40k. Easily converted, too, which I'll get on in a moment. To the right, a 1/24 Hexa Gear figure. From everything I've seen, he's damn near perfectly scaled to this robot. After that, we have a 1/18 scale Storm Trooper, just for additional sizing and if you should have interests in using this with say, Gi Joe.

The Iron Skeleton comes with two accessories.

A large axe.

And a big cannon with a chainsaw bayonet (mysteriously missing from the promo images)

Now, as for features, this thing is poseable. Every joint is articulated. That includes the smaller sub-arms and the fingers and thumbs on all four hands. The heels even have a hinge, for some reason. His arms' mobility is a little bit hampered by the presence of the sub-arms though. The legs, I should note, are digitigrade, but they are still fully articulated and functional. Even the little sensor eye is movable. The Iron Skeleton is apparently not a manned unit though. There's some humanoid robots in the line called Grasshoppers. From what I gather (I've only seen one picture showing it) you can partially disassemble a Grasshopper and install it into the cockpit block. Yeah, the torso opens to reveal a cockpit. The cockpit itself is actually removable. So, if you wanted to convert this thing to a 40k Knight, you could easily just take out the cockpit block and scratch build a new cockpit. Unfortunately, the Grosshoppers don't come with this robot and they're a bit on the costly side to purchase. However, guess what does fit in the included cockpit block? Yeah, Hexa Gear. If you remove a Hexa Gear figure's arms and legs, they can pretty easily fit right into the cockpit. They won't even fall out.

Now, of course, this isn't without its flaws. As I mentioned,, the sub-arms do get in the way of the upper arms' mobility. That can make holding the cannon a little difficult. Most of the joints use soft ratcheting ball joints. They'll hold the poses, but I can see them getting loose over time. The hands are definitely an area to look out for in terms of looseness. The upper right arm's hand is a little loose on mine. Also, the lower left arm likes to pop out at the bicep joint. I've heard that on some others, the waist joints can be a bit loose. On mine, the joint likes to pop loose. The issues mine has are all minor though. Absolutely nothing deal breaking.

I'm very happy with this purchase, so I'm looking into getting some more of the robots, especially the larger ones.

So, to whet the appetite of those of you who are actually interested, and to entice others to track some of these toys down, here's some of the other mechs, spoiler'd due to the image sizes.

Spoiler:

Also, kind of funny. The designers of this line just couldn't resist "borrowing" elements from other lines. Those Grasshoppers I mentioned, their weapons are recast Tau Battlesuit weapons and one of them has part of a Space Marine backpack included as a Titanfall style jump pack. There's also some cyborg soldiers that use Tau Battlesuit torso bits as body armor.

Thanks for the review! Had no idea these existed, but happy I do now Iron Skeleton might still be the coolest to me, though I can dig Steel Knights and Zeus Mecha (assuming either of those are mech names) has a proto-BT thing going on with the shoulder PPC/whatever.

How much did your four-armed boy set you back?

I got him during a sale, so I got it a bit cheaper. I paid around $42 all together. Right now you can get it on Aliexpress for about $46 or so, free shipping. You're looking at $100+ on Ebay though.

I have to say, I really like Iron Skeleton's design a lot, too. I actually wound up ordering the black version of the Zeus mecha last night (currently on sale from the same seller for $62) and it's already shipped. With luck, I should have it by the 27th.

Surprisingly, I actually haven't had any issues Googling it, and I've done it from my work computer. Just search "Joy Toy 1/27" or "Joy Toy Source" and you should be fine. If you do an image search, most of the images that come up will actually be to those Aliexpress listings.

Funny enough, when I've searched Joy Toy, the thing that's popped up the most, aside from these, has been toys of Joy from Inside Out. Nothing explicit.

taking a shift away from cool sci-fi stuff, how about some boring fantasy things?

I painted up a Bones Bear. I'm not happy with the photo.

Yep, that's a bear.

I also painted an Orc Grunt.

Oooh. Look how exciting this figure is.

Lastly, we have a new favorite of mine, the Dwarf Butcher.

The moment I saw him on the pegs at the flgs, I had to have him. Is he going to kill the pig? Is he protecting the pig? What the hell am I even going to do with him? Don't know! But I know I love this mini. Him, the slaver, and eventually the brewer are all going to hang out. For some bizarre reason, I've been buying dwarves lately. I don't know why. They've never appealed to me. But, Reaper does have some weird ones with a lot of personality. I think I need to get the dwarf mage riding a donkey at some point and the puppeteer.

I imagine he butchers dwarves because they're always after his bacon.

I actually painted a Necromunda figure last night! I'm just going to be building them following the instructions, so nothing fancy. This guy is labeled as Bonesnapper, I believe. Looks like he has a shotty and some 'nades.

And that now gives me two more finished Necromunda figures than Highlord Tamburlaine.

One more Bones fantasy figure finished. Hopefully he'll get some attention when I put him up for sale.

This guy is supposed to be some kind of Ogre chieftan.

Now, more interesting stuff. Highlord Tamburlaine had challenged me to a skirmish game of 40, My Weeping Legion against his Necrons, most likely. He managed to forget that challenge, but I made an effort to pad out my list with some more units. Unfortunately, most of what I've actually finished has been a lot of low end units. Primarily just Plague Marines and Pox Walkers with the odd cultist here and there. So, since I have Lord Felthius and his Tainted Cohort, I figured I'd get those Blightlords done so I'd have some heavier hitters (Felthius himself will wait until I find a better head). To boost my cultist numbers, I also painted up a couple more, including a conversion for a leader.

This guy would count as a basic cultist with a melee weapon and an autopistol.

This fellow I did a little converting to make him match up with the leader figure.

Mostly, the work consisted in converting his rifle into a shotgun. I had a spare comms pack from my GCPS, so I gave that to him to help him stand out a bit more as a leader.

Now here's the Blightlords of the Tainted Cohort.

Tentacles here was completed first.

After Tentacles came Horney.

And then lastly, we have the final one I did who also happens to be my favorite of the group, Toothy.

Well, look what showed up in the mail yesterday.

This is the Zeus mecha from Joy Toy's Dark Source toyline. The shop I got it from offered to throw in a soldier figure for an additional dollar, so I took them up on that. The figure is surprisingly nice considering his small size. The mech itself is also quite nice. Big, too. The only negatives I have about it is that the mech's ankles do not have a rocker joint, which would give them the ability to tilt sideways. Because of that, his feet can't stay flat on the ground when he's in a wide stance. The other negative I have has to do with the way the cockpit is designed. It's just odd and seems really impractical. I'll try and get some pics of it so you can see.

The biggest problem I had with this figure is that the factory applied some kind of lubricant to the joints. Somehow the stuff got all over the figure, giving it a weird gooey, gummy feeling. I think this issue is a one-off oddity though, not the norm. My Iron Skeleton didn't have this problem. After some extensive scrubbing with paper towels and just leaving it exposed to open air, the gummyness seems to have gone away.

Weirdness with the lubricant aside, it is a good figure and very cool. I would like to get some morw of the robots and definitely more of the soldiers.

I have no clue why that ogre has a possessed shield though. Doesn't seem like their style.

I'm sure someone is going to look at this latest update expecting that this is about 40k Space Marines. No, these are proper Space Marines. My USMC Space Force gets some transportation. Honestly, I've had this thing, plus more troops and two more vehicles sitting around since I first posted these figures from GZG's Moongrunt line. I'm just extremely slow in actually getting to them. Plus, this vehicle is entirely metal.

It really needs some logos, flags, something on it, but I don't have any that are small enough to fit in those squares. I'm definitely not going to freehand them. I actually tried something new with this. I tried doing a thinned down wash mixed with dish soap and water. The mixture gave a very subtle weathered look to it, but it didn't really come out in the picture, unfortunately.

And speaking of slow to complete, I finally finished this squad of vaguely Storm Trooper looking guys from Micropanzer. These guys were from an unproduced range that were thrown in with an order as a bonus.

Whenever I get back home from this current house sitting job, I've got a whole slew of 15mm figures I just got primed. Unfortunately, they may all have to take a backseat so that I can get a Shadespire crew painted before a local tournament in May. I'm sure I'll lose badly, but it should be fun.

Continuing the 15mm parade, and as an appetizer to the main course, I finally got around to completing my Khanate infantry squad with smgs.

So, now them and their werewolf auxiliaries can get some good old fashioned street fighting in with some Psychoborg support.

The main order of business this past week has been building and completing a Shadespire warband. In this case, Magore's Fiends. I'd tried playing the game a few months ago against my brother and my cousin, but my cousin's belief in the Hear of the Cards resulted in him completely trouncing me so badly it completely turned me off the game. I decided to give it another go, this time using a beefier warband than the Bloodbound. I played against Highlord Tamburlaine over the weekend with the completed team and while I still got my butt kicked, I at least actually managed to take out his leader. The game started well for me, but I eventually lost, as expected. I can definitely see the need to do some proper deck building with the game.

So, without further ado, here's the warband. First, Ghartok Flayskull.

Then Zharkus the Bloodsighted, the only member to actually score a kill.

The big man himself, Magore Redhand.

Finally, Magore's faithful pooch, Riptooth.

As you can see, I did not use the typical red and brass color scheme for them. I liked the look of the Skulltaker Tribe's colors, so I used that. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a mishap with them. You'll note a lack of highlighting on most of the black sections of the armor. There actually was highlighting, but the paintjob on all three warriors was nearly ruined by the dullcoat I used. For whatever reason, Model Masters' dullcoat made the gold trim run on every one of them and left a bizarre glossy sheen on everything. I had to almost completely repaint the figures. Riptooth came out really well since I didn't use that dullcoat on him. Instead, I used a brush on Vallejo dullcoat that wound up working quite nicely. I tell you, I'm not using that Model Masters' crap anymore.

That queen is looking good. I assume she's for the Gael faction?

The expression on that halfling cook's face is impossibly grimdark!

Yes, I believe the queen and the priestess I posted a while back are both from the Gael faction.

The cook has seen some things.

I got another SOBH figure painted last night. This one is one of their Chaos Dwarves from their Axe and Brimstone expansion. The figure is made by Alternative Armies. He's basically a dwarf Wrathmonger.

The other thing I finished, which has taken pretty much the whole week, working in bits, is a Helbrute for my Weeping Legion. They needed more heavy hitters, so I figure a Helbrute will be a cheap way to get them some heavier firepower.

Continuing my long line of random models, here's a disembodied brain!

This was a freebie model that was thrown in with a Kickstarter order from RBJ Games.

Now, here's a fun one. This is a Wargames Exclusive Kataton Battle Servitor, which is very clearly meant to be a stand in for the Mechanicus Kataphron Battle Servitor. Personally, I think this looks much cooler than the little tank guys.

He's also quite large, so clearly whichever Magos Biologis made this guy was using some Ogryns or some vat-grown, gene modded brutes like the Goliaths for spare parts.

First, the more boring of the two, a halfling mage. Dude looks like he's wearing a bathrobe.

Slightly more interesting, we have a halfling female who belongs to the Pelter Clan, which is a rather caveman-esque clan of barbarian outcasts in the Song of Blades and Heroes setting.

I think she'll be perfect for games of Paleo Diet.

Alternative Armies made quite a few minis like that for Song of Blades and Heroes, if you're interested in caveman dwarves or halflings.

Here's another of the SOBH figures. I think this is actually a dwarf, but he's listed as a halfling on their website. Either way, this guy is a Pelter Clan Demon Slayer.

Continuing the barbarian trend, I also painted a couple of my resin champions from Shieldwolf. I think I actually like their resin ladies more than the plastics.

I got another badass woman painted. This one is equally impractically dressed as the barbarians were though. I present the Amazonia, from Urban War!

This is apparently the resculpt of the unit as the earlier versions were more heroically proportioned, wore somehow less clothing, and also carried huge swords on their backs. Major under-boobage aside, I really like the look of this figure. I still think that the Urban War gladiators would make great Khorne cultists in 40k.

Up next is a Tau Pathfinder with a railgun that I'm not especially happy with.

For whatever reason, the paint just didn't work the way I wanted it to on this guy.

Following him, I added to my Ion Age Prydian army with the addition of some artillery.

More details on the gun.

And the crew.

I'm going for sort of a Lamenters look with these guys. I will eventually make a full Prydian Knight force in this scheme.

I have plenty more Barbarians to work on, but none in today's update. Instead, how about a nude cyborg?

I really wish 40k had some kinds of light armored, pistol wielding unit in the Mechanicus army that I could take multiples of. This is my third Artemis Biosynth from Urban War, and while I'd like to use them in 40k as proxies in my Mechanicus army, I can't think of any units they could represent.

Now, this is totally random, but I also worked on a Malifaux figure. My Guild collection increases in size once more. This time, I've completed the old metal Executioner.

He's a jolly looking fellow. I wonder if those are his hands, or someone else's?

Post by: Barzam

Highlord Tamburlaine, this is not one of the early Synth models, just one of the harder ones to find. I'm pretty sure there's a few more I still don't have. The Biosynths were actually available back during the Void days, but they looked a fair bit different. They were fully clothed and looked more like something from Shadowrun.

I could maybe use them as Sicarian Infiltrators, the problem being their lack of a taser goad (I guess their fists could be electrified), and their bases are too small. Sicarians are on 40s while these girls are on 30s.

Youwashock, I would like to get an Achilles someday.

Johnhwang, what's so strange about having nude, pistol wielding cyborgs? Would it help if I pointed out that the male Achilles Biosynths are just as naked?

BobtheInquisitor, painting that much bare skin leaves me very hesitant, for some reason. I've lately only been using two flesh tone paints. I have a basic dark flesh, which i've mostly been using lately and a very watery light tone that's a pain to work with. Thankfully, I discovered a mid tone flesh color I'd forgotten I had that worked well with both of the other shades. It made painting the Artemis much easier and made mixing paints a bit easier too, since I wasn't getting such a sharp shift in paint colors like I did when I triedmixing the light and dark skin tones.

Only thing I didn't realize is that she's missing a shield. It's no big deal that it isn't there, though. I think, until I work on my Axibalan amazons from Shadowsea, this will be it for Barbarian women for a little while.

The colors work. The order she came in, there weren't enough shields or quivers of javelins sadly.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get to mine any time soon sadly. At least my male Tharn might get done before I leave.

The model looks great, and a shield would probably detract from the overall design.

The paint is called Splinter Camouflage Base, it's part of Vallejo's Panzer Aces paint line. I use it pretty extensively. It's what I used to do the edge highlighting on my Death Guard.

I finally completed the last of my Sons of Rasputin, the Northern Sons. I've been sitting on these guys for a long time, so I'm happy to finally have them finished. Someday I'll find the other figures I'm missing from their line.

I also got started on my Turf War Z minis from Studio Miniatures. Up first, I did a couple of SWAT officers. One with a riot shield, and one with an MP-5.

I've got the rest of the officers assembled and primed. It's just a matter of getting to them.

The Sons of Rasputin as a whole are such ugly little models, I absolutely love them! I think if I were to sell off all of my models, I'd hold onto them. There's just something about them. They're like pugs. Absolutely ugly, but there's just something about them I just can't help but love.

Speaking of old models though, I whipped up a new Farseer. I ordered the old Rogue Trader Farseer back when GW did their Made To Order Eldar stuff (along with a Bone Singer). This is another sculpt I always liked. There's just something about him. That helmet has such a weird, alien feel to it. Plus, it looks kind of like Trumpy from Pod People. Or a Cobra-La Royal Guard.

One thing I like about the Eldar from the early days of 40k is that they really seemed to push for more of an Asian feel to them. It's especially apparent on this guy. I never knew he was carrying a giant sword until I had him in hand. So, once I realized that, I thought I would try something different with this figure that would capitalize on the more Asian feel of the figure. I decided to base his colors on the Shinsengumi. Completely out of left field, I know, but I am actually very pleased with the results.

Another Farseer. This time a later version. This is the metal version of the Singing Spear Farseer, who I happened across at the FLGS. This one is probably one of my favorite Farseer molds. He looks like he's about to go full on Shaolin monk on some poor Guardsman.

It took me a while to settle on a scheme for this guy. I had seen a tutorial for painting freehand cherry blossoms on Eldar and I really liked the idea of doing it myself, so I absolutely wanted to try it here. I was going to paint this guy completely different, but Highlord Tamburlaine convinced me to keep the Shinsengumi theme. So, I decided to stick with both the cherry blossoms and the Shinsengumi ideas. Like with the Rogue Trader guy, I'm actually very happy with the results. All that's left now is to paint the Warlock and Bonesinger to match them.

Rounding out this liitle jaunt into Eldar, we have the promised Warlock with antlers.

And all three together.

I'm going to take a break for a day or two, then it's on to painting either more dwarves or cops.

The space elf wizards look really solid, you've added some characterful flourishes to what's a pretty sweet scheme, with the blue + white overcloaks offset by black + bone. And I agree with your commentary on the sculpts, those are certainly the most iconic farseer for me as well, especially ol' bulbous helm over-there-pointer himself.

I spent last night doing some assembly for some upcoming peojects. I finished the assembly of an Ursarax team and a Legion Champion.

The Champion is a figure that's really grown on me. I like the pose and for some odd reason, I really like his asymmetrical armor. My plan is to eventually do up a squad with a few additional special units of loyalist Death Guard to use in Kill Team when it eventually hits. Why loyalist Death Guard? Why not? They look cool and the Horus Heresy stuff is also cool. I like the thought of having a group of loyalists from the Heresy having been time displaced by the Warp. It's also a good fluffy reason for having Imperial vs. Imperial fights.

The Ursarax should be fun to paint. Those arm cables were a pita to mount though. Also not helpful was some of the finger pieces coming off the sprue while I was trying to clean them. The drain managed to catch one of the lightning claws that got loose, leaving me with one claw short of arming the whole squad with claws. I'm very annoyed about that.

Before I get to these though, I have a few more projects ahead of them. These include more cops, Dirty Harry, Che Guevara, space dwarves, and the Plague Brethren.

So, as you might've guessed from the presence of the Legion Champion, I also have a Master of Signals. I must admit, I really didn't like the figure initially on account of his bulbous helmet. But, having him in hand, he's really grown on me, especially once I got some paint on him.

I mentioned I'd be doing the Champion in Death Guard colors, so you might be wondering why I did this half of the set as a Raptor. Well, since Raptors are basically Reasonable Marines and actually use proper military tactics, I figured they would be one of the few chapters to still maintain this unit. Having a forward observer on hand to call in orbital and artillery strikes would be a very smart move. While he may not have a tabletop role in proper 40k (I think), he could still be useful as an objective marker or something.

Now, this next figure is totally random as hell and I have Studio Miniatures to thank for that. He was a backer freebie for Turf War Z. This is obviously Che Guevara.

I have no clue what I'm going to do with him.

I've had these Studio Miniatures cops painted since before last week, I just haven't gotten around to taking their pictures. These guys came from their Turf War Z Kickstarter. I still have 20 plastic zombies from that KS that I haven't touched yet.

So, we'll start with the cops' star, Harry Callahan.

Yeah, that's totally Dirty Harry. Not my best work with the eyes, but I figured he would benefit from having them actually painted in. It's hard to tell, but he's also carrying brass knuckles in his left hand.

I think this guy was supposed to be an elite or something. Unlike the other officers, he was entirely one piece. I kind of think I should have painted his shirt a different color, just to give him a bit more visual distinction.

Here we have another shield guy. This one looks ready to beat some perps' heads in. There were two distinct body types for the regular officers. One standing still, which this one uses, and one walking forward. So, you'll notice some I didn't take pictures of the backs on, but that's because they're exactly the same.

Here's the other standing guy, armed with a shotgun.

Here's the advancing type. The nightstick on his back was actually a separate piece that I added.

And the other advancing body type. This is not actually a head that came with these figures. To be honest, I'm not even sure where it came from. The head he started with was also bald, but was wearing sunglasses. In my painting space, I have some model kits on a shelf above my painting table. One of those is Bandai's RE-100 Hamma Hamma kit. That damn thing has got to have some of the weakest joints I've ever seen in a Bandai kit. The thing just won't stand up under its own weight and has a habit of constantly falling off the shelf. It's broken its head antennae three times now. Well, after I'd just finished putting on the final coats of paint, the damn thing fell again, only it landed right on the painting table, right onto these figures. This particular guy must've taken the full force of the impact. His paint got mostly chipped off, his arms broke off, and his head went flying. I still haven't found it. I was so pissed off. Thankfully, I was able to repair the damage and found a pretty good replacement head.

All together, minus Harry and the SWAT officers.

As some my have seen from the pictures I'd uploaded to my gallery yesterday, I've been doing a bit of Death Guard work. I got five figures done, with the last finished up today.

One the Pre-Heresy side of things, we have the finished Legion Champion

I'm thinking I'll wind up using him as a Chapter Champion in a Command Squad in regular 40k. I'm waiting on a few orders, but I should have a fully completed Loyalist Death Guard command squad before too long. Hopefully I'll have a tactical squad to go with them in the not too distant future, too.

In addition to him, I've completed my Death Guard Tartaros Terminator Squad as well. Only two figures had remained and I got them finished up Sunday night. I also updated the previous three I'd done to have the new, darker shoulder pauldrons as well.

Here's the squad Sgt.

I may go and try adding a skull insignia to his pauldrons. Depends on how lazy I am.

In addition to them, I also painted the Plague Brethren. Yep, I got my hands on a set of them.

Here's Blight Stalker.

Corpulux

and Dipteron

It feels good to have them all completed. If you can believe it, I still have a bunch more Death Guard left that I haven't painted yet. I have several more plague Marines, an Aspiring Champion, a Biologis Putrifier, a Foul Blightspawn, a Blight Hauler, and a Plagueburst Crawler. I'd still like to get my hands on some Forgeworld Contemptor Dreads for them, too.

My Ursarax Cohort is now complete!

I kept their colors mostly in line with my Thallaxii and Domitar, but I also wanted them to be closer to the official Forgeworld colors, so I wound up using a lighter shade of gray, whereas thr Domitar and Thallaxii are closer to being black. Like my other FW Mechanicum units, I wanted to keep the red, black, and brass of Stygies despite not using their colors in the main body of the unit, so I incorporated them into the pauldrons. I also gave all three unique patterns on the right pauldron just for some individuality.

Wow, that's some high praise from you guys on the visors. They're actually surprisingly easy to do. I mostly use Vallejo paints, so I'm not sure what their GW equivalents are, but the base is Hull Red, which was hit with a Nuln Oil wash, then traced the bottom and right edges of the lense with straight Red, and two dots of Ghost Grey or whatever equivalent to white you normally use. That's it.

Once I get home tonight, I'll post some more pictures. I finished a bunch of Nurglings, a Pox Walker, and a zombie apocalypse survivor. I painted up another loyalist Death Guard Legionnaire for my Command Squad, but I think I may have to wait until tomorrow to get a pic of him using natural lighting.

Okay, got my pictures all edited. I went ahead and took the Death Guard guy's pics in my hall. The light's a bit harsh and washes out some of the paint details, but it's better than using the yellowish lighting in my bedroom.

Here's the only non-GW figure I got finished up. This is a generic survivor from Phalanx Consortium's Skirmish Ragers Kickstarter. I've painted a few other figures from that line, like the Rabbi, Priest, bow hunter survivor, and shotgun cop. For some reason I wound up with two of this particular guy. I'm not sure how I'd like to paint the extra one.

Now, onto thing decidedly more Nurgle, here's a random Pox Walker I picked up and converted. I think I like how they look more with their horns removed.

Now, how about some Nurglings? Since they have no real gameplay use, I decided to leave them off of their respective figures' bases and gave them their own. I can probably use them in some other games, like SOBH.

Here's Sluggo.

Mush

and Kab-Louie

These three are all from the Lord Felthius & Tainted Cohort box. I love the one with the grenade. He looks so happy about blowing himself up. Interestingly, I tried something different with him. He was painted using the new blue Hexwraith paint over a white base, then has Drakenhof Nightshade applied over that. I like the effect it creates.

Then we have a Nurgling I'm calling Ugly-Stick. Watch out that he doesn't beat you with it. He's from the Plague Brethren set.

Finally, we have the Death Guard Veteran Legionnaire that will be joining my Command Squad. I'm very happy with how he came out. I wish the weathering didn't get so washed out by the lights. It looks good in person.

I finally got around to taking pics of what I've been working on.

Up first is the first Infinity mini I've painted in a long time, the Morat Rasyat. For when you need to conduct some aggressive diplomacy (Rasyats are Morat "diplomats").

I got the banner bearer/Ancient painted for my command squad. For some reason, I just can't get happy with how his helmet came out.

Then we have a squad of Grymn light infantry from Hasslefree. My plan has always been to use them as Brokkrs in Deadzone, giving that subfaction a somewhat more militaristic feel.

Up first is squad leader Kraggs.

Dagni

Voltan, the only multipart figure in the squad.

Khyli, the female memberr

And Jinso. His skin isn't so yellow as the pic makes it look.

All of the markings on the Death Guard marine and his banner are freehand. The only thing that isn't freehand is the skull on the banner. That's from the generic Space Marine transfer sheet.

As for the Grymn, I had an idea that these are Brokkrs who work as security contractors. So they run security while their buddies strip Deadzones of their resources.

I've been looking forward to working on the new AOS Stormcast models, but I've had a queue of figures ahead of them. I wasn't going to let myself work on them before I finished the other stuff. Now that I'm through with those other items, I can get working on the new hotness. I finished the first of my Castigators last night, the Castigator-Prime.

I don't think pictures really convey just how chunky these guys are. The Prime at least is pretty swole. The individual scenic bases are pretty neat as well. The Prime has a fallen book of some kind with pages spilling out.

Castigators are just super swole.

I also got my Death Guard conversion parts, so I started working on them. I mostly finished the Legion Centurion last night. I need to hit his bolt pistol with a wash still and paint his insignia on his left shoulder.

I feel like he's just a little too busy looking though. I think I need to redo his aquila details on his chest. Maybe redo the whole chest plate in green? I don't know. Thoughts? Should I just leave him be?

I'll be using him as a Captain, more than likely.

The female archer gun looks nice. Good sculpt.

The DG sculpt looks dated compared to newer stuff, but I like the paint job. If anything, I'd do a little more blacklining work where the colors change from gold to white, rather than adding another color.

So you think it just needs better definition? I can try that. Another problem is the gorget. The brass and the gold really blend into each other. I'll try hitting the edges again with a black wash and see if that helps at all.

I love the chunkiness of that Centurion. He's so bulky!

Once again, house sitting is upon me and that means no painting for about a week. So, I nmade sure to finish up my Castigators and some Death Guard I was painting.

Here's the last of the Easy Build Castigators. The Gryph-Hound still needs to be done, but he'll have to wait.

I completed the first of my Death Guard grunts. You'll note the asymmetric pauldrons. I thought the DG upgrade set used MKIII shoulder pads, but they appear to be MKIV. I was kind of miffed about that. Why did they do MKIV when Death Guard are most well known for MKIII armor?

His bayonet is actually a leftover chainfist blade from the Tartaros set. I think it makes a pretty good bayonet.

Then we have another unit for the Command Squad, the Veteran Sergeant, armed with a power sword and a bolt pistol.

Overall, I'm not sure how I want to approach these helmets. Should I keep the masks gold or white for the regular troops? It feels like something is missing from the trooper's helmet and I can't figure out what it is.

Got some gaming in today with Highlord Tamburlaine, our cousin, and BobtheInquisitor.

First thing's first, Brookhurst Hobbies has a life sized Primaris Marine standee in the restroom in the gaming room. So, BobtheInquisitor requested that I make a meme out of it. Behold!

We got in a pretty lengthy game of Andrea Sfiligoi's Paleo Diet. It's actually a pretty fun game. Surprisingly, I'm the only one who managed to get kills (and killed). I took out one of the two wolves that was prowling the board as well as the primary quarry, an Andrewsarchus, which promptly earned the name Andy Serkis.

As usual, my in-game photos leave much to be desired.

After that game, and lunch, we played a game of Shadespire, which BobtheInquisitor won. For once, I actually didn't lose my entire team and I even got some victory points. Maybe I'm actually getting better at it?

The game was played 2 vs 2 on probably too small of a board. But, I actually had fun with it.

Alright, so I've been pretty quiet with the updates lately. That's because I've begun work on my Knight army. So, expect to see slower updates as I am going to be taking my time working on these. But, do expect more mecha from me! There may be a few Stormcast thrown in here and there, too.

First, I should probably point that my Knight army will be House Raven. I figured I'd start off somewhat easier with a pair of Armigers I got from Highlord Tamburlaine through a trade.

Here's the first, though both were painted using Duncan's tips from Warhammer TV.

For Armiger 2, I decided to go with an asymmetrical scheme.

it may be a little hard to tell, but both Armigers have been inked and highlighted. The highlights kind of blend in in the pics because the highlight colors I used are very close to their base colors. They're visible in person though. The thing I'm most pleased about though was my freehand Keep Inviolate symbol that House Raven uses. Highlord Tamburlaine didn't have the decal sheet, so I had to freehand it on both Armigers.

So, you may have noticed that I haven't posted much lately. Well, that's because I've been slowly working on my Imperial Knights. I got one of three completely finished. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any pics of it yet. There's been some life stuff as well, like getting laid off that are kind of messing with my hobbying. Needless to say, there's other things I need to be focusing my time on right now. Annoyingly, it also means I can't go spending money willy-nilly on shiny new models. I'll have to get some store credit at the flgs for that. And wouldn't you know it, my primer right ran out right now, too. So, even if I wanted to work on some new figures, I can't. Thankfully, Knight #2 is already basecoated, so it's really only a matter of building it right now.

In the mean time, I did actually get some gaming in over the weekend, despite everything. On Saturday night, Highlord Tamburlaine and I tried out One Page Rules' Grimdark Future: Skirmish rules. It was pretty fun and, surprisingly, I actually managed to win. We had a skirmish between Tamburlaine's Space Marines versus my Guardsmen. 4 guys for him, 8 for me. Most of my guys were armed with shotguns, two had rifles, and one had a plasma rifle. My Guard could barely do any damage to the marines though. At best, I was able to keep his guys pinned and keep them from scoring objectives. They did get lucky and kill an Assault Marine though. I think the game could be improved a bit from either including some form of grouped fire ability or reactions.

Here's some "blah" pictures from it. Tamburlaine probably has better ones.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/969074-Grimdark%20Future%20game.html

And yes, that terrain is all unpainted. That's all on Highlord Tamburlaine.

On Sunday, Highlord Tamburlaine, our cousin, and BobtheInquisitor all got together at Brookhurst Hobbies to do some gaming. We wound up playing Last Night on Earth where we were resoundingly trounced by our cousin, who was playing the zombies.

Look at this cruddy picture!

Following that, we did another game of Grimdark Future: Skirmish. This time, a four player free-for-all.

Another cruddy picture that doesn't show very much. I used my Death Guard, 3 Plague Marines and a Plague Lord in Terminator armor, our cousin used my Thousand Sons, 3 Rubrics and a Sorcerer. BobtheInquisitor used Custodes, 2 Custodians and a single Sister of Silence, and Highlord Tamburlaine used Mechanicus. I'm actually not entirely sure what he had since they almost all got killed early into the game. He made the mistake of deploying his troops in direct line of sight of our cousin's guys and then didn't put them into any cover. They were very quickly picked off by our cousin's sorcerer and his heretical magic. In fact, by the end of the game, Highlord Tamburlaine ended up with only one Skitarii left. I nearly won the match by taking two of the four objectives, but at the last minute, BobtheInquisitor's Sister of Silence (who until then had only managed to fall off the roof of a building) got into contact with my Plague Lord and contested the final objective, leaving the game a three-way tie. For once, I actually played somewhat tactically and managed to not take a single loss.

That sister of silence had all the grace and dignity of a reporter stomping grapes.. It was shameful, but I couldn't stop laughing at my team who took more damage from falling on their faces than from enemy fire.

Oh and, "Now wait just a minute!"

Just a minor update, really. Slowly progressing on the second Questoris Knight. I found out last night though that I only have one of the disc magnets left that I need in order to magnetize the arms. So, that's going to slow things down until I can get more.

Here's the progress so far though.

I'll take him home so I can do some touchup sprays, then start hitting the brass sections, start paiting the other details, like the cabeling, and then hit it with a wash. Once I get there, I can start on the armor panels.

In the meantime, I've painted up some Bones figures to sell, but there doesn't seem to be any interest in them. Some were ones I've painted before, so I won't bore anyone with repeat pictures. I'll just post the new ones.

Elf Mage.

Halfling Cook

Dude is so dinky! He doesn't even remotely compare to my metal one from Alternative Armies.

Dwarf Ranger

Yes, I did paint his eyes

And I just got this in the mail today from my other brother in Japan. Bandai's stupidly web exclusive standard Efreet from Cross Dimension 0079

No, the Questoris Class also contains the bog standard plastic kits. I wish I had one of those Forgeworld ones though. The plan is to make this guy into a Knight Crusader.

Of course mine already sold though, so

I may get another to paint up like yours though.

Well, it's not like that Elf is hard to paint up or anything.

I completed my Knight Incantor of the Hallowed Knights yesterday. This is the guy who came with the "Getting Started" AOS magazine. He's a cool looking figure, but for some reason, I was having a hard time getting motivated to finish him. Thankfully, he's now done and ready for Skirmish games and I can move on to other projects.

Updating with some new figures I've painted.

I felt like painting something blue, so I grabbed an old Raging Heroes Iron Empire figure and painted her up.

Now, probably more interesting, I've fished out some old Anvil Industries Black-Ops Marines from my Pile 'O Shame that I'd started a while back and never finished. I decided it was high time to actually paint them. Some I'd already started painting, and they just got a retouch. There's a few more that need retouching and some need to be repainted entirely.

You'll notice they're on 25mm bases. That's how long I've had these guys unfinished. I got them before the Marines got their bases scaled up! Dude with the Combi-Bolter does have the rifle magnetized, so I can swap out the attachment. He's carrying a grenade launcher with a scope and laser sight attached on his back. I figure when I'm done painting these guys and retouching the old ones into Raptors, I should have two five-man squads that will make very nice Sternguard Raptors.

In addition to the Sternguard, I can also now add an Apothecary to my Raptors.

Naturally, this guy came in the Forgeworld Apothecary set, which has another figure. He's now attached to my Death Guard, giving me a full Command Squad, now.

Here's a little something to share. Any of you ever hear of Laserburn? Laserburn is basically the proto-40k, created by Bryan Ansell in the early 80s. This was what existed before Rogue Trader and it contains many elements that would eventually make their way into 40k. Space Marines, the Imperium, Power Armor, Dreadnought Armor (actually Terminator armor), Conversion Beamers, Bolters, hell, even the Redemptionists. Although, the Redemptionists of Laserburn are a bit different from the ones that eventually found their way into 40k. The bit I find odd about the rules for Laserburn though is that it's more of an RPG than it is a miniature wargame. The game did have miniatures made, though they were 15mm. At some point, Alternative Armies bought the molds for those figures and produces them now. They have a very different feel from what we would eventually see in 40k. They feel a lot more pulpy. Almost like something out of 2000AD.

I have a few more of these guys awaiting paint on the worktable, but I figured I'd post the ones I've finished.

Here's a Space Marine with a grenade launcher.

a Space Marine with a Heavy Bolter

a Space Marine with a "Support Bolter," which I think is actually just a regular Bolter.

This guy is listed as a Space Marine crewman. He's the only one sculpted in a marching pose though. I believe the weapon he's carrying is actually supposed to be a las rifle.

Lastly, we have this rather goofy looking fellow that is listed as a Space Marine in Powered Armor. I believe this is actually supposed to be Dreadnought Armor since it doesn't look that different from the figure actually listed as being in Dreadnought Armor. About the only difference is the helmet.

It's interesting to note, all of these guys have what appear to be jump packs on. Imagine if Terminators got to use jump packs today. Like I said though, I have a few more of these guys on my table awaiting paint, including a guy with a Conversion Beamer. It doesn't look anything like today's Conversion Beamers, but it's neat to know that the weapon existed back even before 40k was 40k. The rules for it are even the same!

"Terminator" Armor is "Tactical Dreadnought Armor".

2E was definitely a wargame, but wasn't RT still more of a RPG than a wargame?

Barzam Paints random miniatures- 6/30/2020 Dusk Raider Thunder Warrior Sniper @ 2018/09/11 21:19:18

Post by: Barzam

The term "Terminator" just wasn't used in Laserburn. From all I've heard about Rogue Trader, it was still very much a weird mix of tabletop miniature game and an RPG. Laserburn definitely feels like it's a pure pen and paper RPG that just happens to be playable with miniatures. It's interesting. Some of the rules in Laserburn as very simplistic and feel like they would lend themselves well to a small model count skirmish game, but then you have rules that are just bloated with charts and tables and dice rolls that would have no place in a miniature wargame. But yeah, 40k's roots are very much visible in Laserburn.

Well, you'll be pleased to know that they haven't gone up in price very much since then. They're only 40p per figure.

Not much of an update today. I feel like I've really slowed down and can't quite muster up the enthusiasm to get stuff painted. But, I'm still chugging along. Only got two figures done since the last update.

a metal Reaper Kulathi.

And another Black-Ops Raptor.

I do realize I forgot to paint his shoulder badge. I need to fix that.

I think part of my lack of enthusiasm has been due to my new can of primer deciding to come out chunky. I haven't even had that can a month and it's decided to do that. Talk about discouraging.

Alright, just finished up four more Black-Ops Raptors this morning. There's about three more of my old ones that I just need to touch up.

Here's the squad sergeant. He's actually one I'd fully finished a long while back and even posted. But, I needed to retouch him to bring him in line with my Raptors. So, new coat of paint, actually finished his basing, repaired his broken pointing finger, and voila!

And this guy actually finishes up my Combi-Bolter guys.

Both he and the sergeant have plasma attachments, though they are magnetized, so I can swap them around if I want to.

Then we have two more standard Bolter guys. Both of these had been painted in camo schemes, but I did a crappy job way back when I first got them. So, they got stripped and were given a nice matte green scheme and markings to go along with everyone else.

Now, all together, I only have 9 guys that I would count as Sternguard. Somewhere along the lines, two of my Black-Ops figures went missing. One's been replaced with a figure made of all sorts of bits, and the other slot is still very much open. I suppose maybe I could use this robot to fill it. This guy is an Assassin robot from RBJ Miniatures. I somehow got him thrown in with my very small purchase from their drone Kickstarter.

Lastly, we have a simple Reaper Barbarian I picked up over the weekend.

Wouldn't it be more effective to run your Raptors as Deathwatch for a Kill Team?

Seems like with the combi weapons and stuff you'd get more bang for your buck.

To be honest, I was actually thinking of using a slightly modified Deathwatch figure to fill that last missing figure. I could probably run them as Deathwatch if I wanted to. The only real problem is their bases. I would need to get some kind of base adapter.

I honestly doubt the base would be that big of issue- I've got plenty still on 25mm bases. With weapon and limb overhang I doubt it will be a problem, and I don't see them surviving long in close combat with most of my stuff... provided my figures can make it to hand- to- hand.

Well, I can finally say, I've finished all of my Knights. And I mean finished. They're decal'd up and everything. It's just a matter of taking photos. This was a slow project, but I'm glad it's finally finished.

In the process of finishing said Knights, I also managed to slap some paint on a couple miniatures.

Here's a Bones priest? Friar? Cleric? What would he be classed as?

Shame he's got that huge seam on his side.

I also painted a Rezolution figure. Yeah. I don't know much about Rezolution except that a lot of the figures were ass ugly, there was a surprisingly good Deckard figure, and it had some bizarre aesthetics for some of the factions. Oh, and alien bondage fetish vampire demons. And zombies!

This figure is a mercenary, and I bet she was supposed to be the start of a new faction. She's called an Emissary of the Empire, and there's two sculpts. The other one is posed firing the gun on the end of the staff.

I don't know what the Empire is exactly or why their emissaries dress like pulpy Egyptian priestesses, but she looks like she'd make a good Thousand Sons allied Psyker. And yes, I painted her eyes.

More randomness.

I finished the other Dragonborn that came in that set.

And I painted up the other two figures I got from RBJ's Drone Kickstarter. A Controller and a Schnauzer-bot.

The S.T.A.R. Trooper controller was painted in industrial colors to match my other one that I'd done (I really need to paint the rest of them). For the Schnauzer, I wanted something that looked more like a Search & Rescue robot. Somebody at RBJ really likes Schnauzers, because with just about every release, they put out a new one.

I see what you're saying about the shield. It's definitely the lighting as the shield was painted brass.

As for RBJ, they're a spinoff of Fotress Figures. Here's their blurb from Kickstarter.
RBJ Game Company is a joint project from siblings Ronda Jones, Ben Rodman and Jeff Rodman. Jeff and Ben Rodman have been making miniatures as Fortress Figures for decades. Ronda is an accountant brought to the project to make sure the numbers work. A unique combination of passion and pragmatism that assures success.

A lot of their stuff is sculpted by Bobby Jackson. The S.T.A.R. Troops are definitely Bobby Jackson sculpts.

Yes, most of their stuff is metal. However, as I recall, they also produced a lot of the troopers and a number of the robots in resin as well during the initial Kickstarter. They run Kickstarters fairly often and I believe they just finished one up. Usually when they do, they offer most of their back catalog at a discount as well. It's possible that when they do their next sci-fi Kickstarter, they'll offer the resin figures again.

The dog is, unfortunately a bit at odds with the look of the rest of my collection and its own. It's just a bit too cartoony. A cartoony look does seem fitting for a Search and Rescue robot though.

Last night I completed an old RAFM skeleton I've had sitting on my table for YEARS. I've just never had any drive to finish him. I'll probably try selling off the whole set now that they're actually finished.

I also completed an Ion Age conversion I've had sitting around for a while. Months back, they were doing a deal where if you spent more than 10 pounds, they sent a free Jade Ape battlesuit in your order. Not a bad deal, so I went with it. After all, the one I've got could use a buddy, and who doesn't need more heavy power armors?

Well, there wound up being an error with my order. They sent me the Jade Ape arms and gun, but the body was the Planetary Militia's Steornede power armor. Totally different design. But, I did notice that both suits have similar stances and builds, so I figured, what the hell? Why not just use what I got and convert it?

Here's the result.

The Jade Ape ius a dual role suit. Primarily, it's meant to be used as a logistics unit, like the Power Loader from Aliens. It's mainly meant for handling cargo. But, it can be used in combat as an assault unit, if necessary. I figured, why not make a Prydian version of the Jade Ape? Thus, the Loader type Steornede.

My dad wanted to see the full Raven army, plus my parents' house has better lighting, so I figured their coffee table would be a good place for a photo shoot. And that previous group shot was done with my crappy phone camera. I took some proper pics of the new Knights today.

I kept these pics fairly large. Dakka shrank them, but if you click on them and go to the gallery, you can zoom into them.

I'll start with the Warden

I should note, all of my Questoris class Knights have magnetized arms, so I can swap all of their weapons around. This one will probably serve as either a Warden or a Crusader.

Then we have the Dominus Class Knight, the Knight Valiant. As I believe I mentioned before, I have embiggened him. He uses a waist extension from Comrade Quiche, which is the first thing I've ever purchased off of Shapeways, and knee extensions from Taro Modelmaker. They really help give it a more impressive stature.

This pic really allows you to see the waist extension.

I really like my final product, here. Enough so that I'm tempted to want to paint the other variant of the Dominus class. Thankfully, I'm more than a bit burnt out on these big kits right now. I just want to focus on painting some smaller figures at the moment.

The third Stabby Ghost is done. This one has a pet bird.

I'll probably do the final ghost with the drum.

I regret not doing the drummer, as the easy to build box is the only way to currently get one.

If we ever do a proper Sigmar game again it's pretty handy.

You down for a skirmish battle this weekend?

Your GW stuff is really nice, but I am blown away by how well your style fits those Bones miniatures. You are really getting a huge amount out of those figures despite them not being the best in terms of detail, your paint jobs make them look awesome.

Thanks for the kind words.

Here's another Bones beastie, the "Carrion Worm." But really, it's just a Carrion Crawler.

I also whipped up another Loyalist Death Guard Marine. This time, a Heavy Bolter.

I like that how the carrion worm is in almost the exact same colors as the death guard.

The funny thing is, he does actually match up decently with my Chaos Death Guard, color-wise. I used a completely different set of colors for it, too. I used the Deepkin flesh colors on it as well as a purple wash and a white drybrush.

I completed Kira Nikolovski, the Sphyr mercenary from Star Saga. This one's a resin mini. It looks a bit rough in the pic, but it looks much better in person.

It's actually just a sky blue with a watered down black wash over it. Then a highlight layer with the sky blue and a little white mixed in. Nothing fancy whatsoever.

I've been painting a number of minis in white lately, it seems. I completed two more Death Guard Marines.

Just some standard Bolter guys, so nothing terribly fancy this time.

And I completed a Menoth Exemplar Warder.

Lighting didn't want to cooperate too much. That's bone white armor, brass trim, Screamer Pink and gold were also used for some of the details. He's supposed to have a tassel hanging from his halberd, but it just didn't look quite right. Something about the way it hung didn't feel natural, so I just removed it. He's a cool looking figure and much chunkier than the regular Exemplar figures.

He does look a lot better without the tassle. I agree, it looked out of place. Still not a fan of the blade on his polearm, but it's a definite improvement.

Are you using real white or cheating ghost grey white?

Well, I painted another S.T.A.R. Trooper from RBJ.

I also finally got around to finishing up the Carmin Ronin I've been working on for about the past two weeks. This robot comes from Eden, a part of the ISC factio.

Weirdly enough, promo pictures all show him with a very different face. The official photos all show him with a face that almost looks like a hockey mask, not the skull face he actually has. And no, I'm not missing a piece, nor is his head a separate part. This figure's actually kind of large, but his arms and swords feel super thin, like I'm going to break them off every time I handle the figure. I'm not really a fan of him.

I am a fan of this guy though.

This is one of the Construct's from Archon's Fall of Man Kickstarter. Yeah, I know, people have a hate-on for Prodos, but the figure is actually quite nice and solid. I like that he's pretty much a Dark Eldar Wraight Guard. I actually modified him and magnetized his arms, so if I ever finish it, I can swap in his cannon for ranged combat.

Lastly, I decided I should probably get around to starting my Secrets of the Third Reich Kickstarter stuff. I got a bunch of mechs and Imperial Japanese troops. Figured I'd start with the Japanese. Oddly enough, I have never seen any pictures of the actual figures on the internet, painted or otherwise. So, lucky you, you're seeing the internet's very first SOTR Imperial Japanese Navy trooper.

The Dark Eldar Wraith thing is from Prodos' Empire of Man, not Fall of Man.

You really ought to do the cannon one of these days for it. I gave it to you, right?

Got some more Marines done. More Imperial Japanese Marines, that is.

Rifleman

Rifleman

Sergeant

And possibly of more interest to this board, I actually painted one of my Space Marine Heroes figures I picked up last year. My hope is to have all five of my figures painted. Since there's not actually any chapter markings sculpted onto them, I'm free to throw them in with the rest of my Raptors.

This guy is Brother Vanial.

I love the star trooper figure and the Eden guy, both are things I could see go into my collection. I’ve been tempted by eden, and now I hear they are coming in plastic instead of metal , might be my next foray after Bushido.

some if the Eden stuff was made into restic for a board game. I don't think the majority of the ISC faction has made it into plastics. Some could probably use the material shift. The Carmin Ronin feels really fragile, despite being rather large. Every time I handle him, I feel like I'm going to break his arms off.

Highlord, you have fought my Primaris Raptors. Aside from my Master of Signals and the Apothecary, Vanial is actually the first regular Marine I've done for them. I'm thinking I might convert one of my Space Marine Heroes doubles rather than try to sell him off, just for a bit more variety.

It's been pretty slow going since my last update. I've been slowly (very slowly) working on some Adeptus Titanicus Imperial Knights. Despite their tiny size, I feel like they're taking me just as long to do as a full sized Knight. Aside from decals, I got the first one done. I chose to do House Vyronii since, well, I'd had enough painting red with the full sized ones.

I got a few D&D monsters painted up as well. A Shambling Mound, and a Dragonborn. There's another Dragonborn Paladin on the table being worked on, another Owl Bear, and a small dragon still to be worked on as well.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Shambling Mound. I don't feel very pleased with it.

Maybe paint the teeth on the shambling mound? Throw a bit more green on it?

I'm one to talk. I got mine base coated... and that's it. No idea how I want to progress on mine.

The Shambling Mound is actually green. It's just a dark green. My lighting isn't working the way I'd like it to these past couple days and the pictures are coming out too dark.

I got two more of my Space Marine Heroes finished. I actually even used some decals this time for the Tactical insignias. This time we have Brothers Castor and Titus.

Brother Castor, the most basic and boring looking of the bunch.

He got a head swap. I figured I ought to do at least one without a helmet as their heads were actually well sculpted with a fair bit of personality to them. I don't remember whose head this is, but it isn't the one that comes with Castor.

Brother Titus

The second brother though- did you NOT drill out the barrel of his gun? Did you paint it? For SHAME.

A human paladin

and a Dragonborn paladin

Okay, I updated the Shambling Mound. Made him a bit greener, added some additional highlighting, and I added some moss.

Then I also completed two more of my Space Marine Heroes, Brothers Remus and Gaiun. Just one more of them in my collection to do until I can get a hold of Brother Promethor, the Captain, and Labyrinth of the Necrons.

Brother Remus

Brother Gaiun

And lastly, I finished another figure I've had sitting around for years. One I felt like I was never going to finish. This is the dismounted female Enforcer Pathfinder from Deadzone.

I felt like a little change of pace from painting Space Marines and fantasy monsters. I also tried a different technique for painting white armor on her. I used Vallejo's grey wash rather than a black or a blue. It looks pretty good in person, though it doesn't show up as well in photos. I have the mounted version of her with the monocycle on my desk. I'll probably start working on that pretty soon.

Well, I got some more stuff done for Ebay, but it was pretty much just doubles of things I've already posted on here. No need to show them again. But, in terms of things I've painted for me, I actually got started on my Kings of War Vanguard Abyssal stuff. I'm not sure how much of them I'll be painting right now, but for the time being, I'm going to at least paint up some of the new figures.

Here's the Succubus Lurker. I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with the purple skin for them. I thought I'd try doing at least one with a skin tone that matched up with their GW equivalent Chaos God. Red for the Lower Abyssals, blue for the magic guys, and purple for the ladies.

I do really like this figure though. The Succubi were what really got me to buy this army.

This guy is an Abyssal Guard. Nothing too amazing about him. He's basically just a geared up Lower Abyssal.

I know I haven't posted an update in a good long while, but that doesn't mean I haven't been painting. I just haven't had the chance to actually take photos. So here's a few things I've been working on.

New additions for my Raptors for Squad Sevastus. Here's Brother Promethor.

Here's Brother Garus.

If you're interested in their bios/fluff, I included it in the pics in the gallery. Just click on the pics. This pretty much completes Squad Sevastus, though I do lack Sergeant Sevastus himself. Once I get my hands on a copy of Labyrinth of the Necrons, I'll actually have the squad complete.

I completed some Studio Miniatures plastic zombies. They're okay. They're a bit more true scaled than most of my other zombies. Mantic's in particular are a bit chunkier. In a group though, that won't be so noticeable. They'd probably go nicely withe the Wargames Factory/Warlord zombies.

I'm actually house sitting once again, and I completed these three just before starting, so I wasn't able to get to the fourth member of the sprue. I'll get to him when I get back home.

Lastly, I've been working on some Mantic stuff. I said I was working on the mounted female Enforcer Pathfinder. Well, I finished her. Finally. I've only had her since the original Deadzone Kickstarter.

This is still the only way to have a mounted Pathfinder right now. Supposedly Mantic is looking to bring this figure back. We'll see. I'd be more interested in them doing bikes for regular GCPS troops.

Speaking of the GCPS, I actually completed their Mule! I couldn't think of a good color scheme for it, so I decided to try and do something kind of similar to the US military equipment being used in Iraq and Afghanistan. I actually really like how it turned out.

It's hard to see, but I even painted the shocks on it. I really like it. It's a neat little APC. While I've been house sitting, I also started working on my GCPS Hornet and an Imperial Taurox. Both will have similar color schemes. Those two will by my next major projects.
