Thanks Vik, it's launching underwater, so that's just compressed air,(ICBM boosters didn't fire until they broke the surface of the water) that's why I used a blue LED

I'm personaly looking foward to star wars 7,8, and 9, especialy since they are following 6... with all those books worth of cool material it'll be hard to screw it up... all I know is that it must have Han and Chewie or I'm going to go off

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/01 10:25:02

Post by: Baiyuan

I must admit I don't worry about it. Disney knows their trade like few others, they'll make entertaining movies, no doubt.
Will they work for hardcore fans? Let me answer that with...
...a question: Did Episode 1-3 work for hardcore fans?
...and a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJlbPXZEpRE

So how much worse can it get for them?

Personally I don't care. I found Jarjar funny yet slightly annoying, but there were worse parts like erm that fething Anakin in E2 and E3, gosh.
I and my family recently watched all 6 movies on blu ray and looking at them with some distance from my childhood dreams they all are kind of goofy, yet classic and entertaining.

Post by: lone dirty dog

Are we really going to do this ok lets get started then, there is the possibility of producing some great movies based on the Star Wars universe.

But lets be honest this has been bought as a cash cow, the only interest in this and its material will be for financial gain, before someone says it yes all movies are produced with profit in mind.

However what I mean is that it will be aimed at the younger market and merchandise sale, the story and fan base will be an after thought.

I really do hope that something good comes out of this, but to be honest I am sceptical to say the least.

I think whatever they do for 7, it will require doing it before Harrison Ford's health and old age catch up to him any further. If they want to maintain the canon storyline, isn't it essential to tell the story of their children?

Post by: dsteingass

Right, that's what I mean. They can hardly replace him with another actor and bring back Carrie Fischer and Mark Hamil.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/01 13:20:30

Post by: Baiyuan

The uniquely entertaining chemistry of the characters of Han and Chewie aside, have you tried to have a less romantic and glorifying look at those movies? (Maybe just imo, but) Harrison Ford is among the worst actors in them, he sucks!
I wouldn't be sad if they don't bring him back. Besides how could that even work? They could either animate him like they did in Tron2, which just wasn't that convincing. Or they could reason that Han stopped using Botox after episode 6...

Those are GREAT LDD! Thanks man!

You have to look beyond the acting I think. Acting is only relevant to it's own era of acting. For the 1977 era, compared to other space Operas of the era, it's longevity qualifies it alone.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And Star Wars Is inherently romantic and glorifying for me, So I accept the suspension of disbelief in that I enjoy it for what it is and not what I wish it would've been.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Perhaps it is just this new daytime cold medicine I am on -But I don't believe that looking at Star Wars critically, as you suggest Baiyuan would change my love of the originals. I accept the three prequel movies as a new generation, a reboot (if you will excuse my tech analogy) of my admittedly biased love of the original trilogy.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/01 14:08:55

Post by: Rogue Wolves

The first movie I ever saw in theaters was phantom menace on release day, so I don't hate them, but I still recognize the originals as greater films

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/01 16:14:44

Post by: Baiyuan

I'm a fan, don't get me wrong. Anyone in my generation (and the one before) who isn't, is evidently missing some chromosomes.
So when I said "classic", I didn't mean classic as in "it's a classic, now take it away from me". Naturally a couple of decades later it has lost much of its appeal if you look at it neutrally, which doesn't mean it's bad now, but if there hadn't been star wars back then and they'd do the same thing today it would be a disaster. So not having Ford in the new installment wouldn't be too much of a loss. I'd prefer having the inconsistency factor of a new actor over seeing grandpa Han Solo.

Well, I suppose it depends where in the timeline they open up the episode 7 plot really...I guess that Palpatine can be played by two different actors and people didn't notice.

Actually, in Return of the Jedi and the prequels, the Emperor was the same guy, I an McDiarmid. It was another guy voicing him in Empire Strikes Back

Maybe, I wasn't that impressed with it but that was after how much it was hyped to me first. It's probably too small an IP to be worth acquiring to them.

Fair enough, but the whole of Serenity was absolutely awful, I want to know what Joss would have done if his baby hadn't been cancelled...

Joss would have done Buffy. He's one of those guys who can ruin any good idea by trying to squeeze a bit more money out of it with cheap drama and questionable spinoffs. Remenber Serenity and Angel. Not really different from Lucas in that he is...

well since you got two protectrons i hazard a guess... one will be some unique version of the theme...

the ghouls look interesting... tho scale will be even more interesting then...

and... how early compared to retail version is the subscription edition?

and shas... arguable... my wife keeps pointing out that if kids had the nuke... they´d use it instantly... remember the old children phrase... "you aren´t my friend anymore?" they´re kind of a-bomb right there... so if you got some dumb peeps with the fat guy in their hands... we´d all be toast by yesterday

Usually one of my officer cadet's that was under the impression that he (or she) was a competent soldier.

Most of my NCO's had a few favorite one-liners. One of my favorite's was:

"Mr X, as an obvious outsider, what is your opinion of the human race?"

I THINK that was one of Davies'. But it could have been Colour Sargeant Wiseman's. It was a while back now.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/07 22:28:05

Post by: LeadLegion

It was more fun when you got to be one of the lunatics in question

Cept for the part where being the boss in the British Army means you always get to eat last. When the food's either cold or just the scrapings from the bottom of the pot. Makes sense though: the best way to monitor how well your lads are being fed is to make sure you're last in line. If you don't eat well, then you know some of the lads didn't eat well either. And that means it's time for you and your size ten assault boot (with steel inserts) to have a quiet little word with the cook...

It's a far cry from some European armies. I hear some of their officers are still issued wine rations in the field! Outrageous, if you ask me.

P.S Sorry for all the edits. My brain appears to be suffering from a spelling malfunction.

I am saddened by the idea that wimps lawsuited the US Military training into being little more than a scout camp, thin-skins who couldn't take being yelled at, or little "private space wussies" who didn't like it having the Drill Sgt 1" from their nose, or the weaklings who didn't like physical correction for holding a weapon so that they would not accidentally shoot one of their mates, (Including the good head swat).

Likely more grenade practice accidents, and accidental shootings on the range. One of our guys was asked a question in basic, answered by swinging around with the rifle and got slapped so hard his helmet went down range, but he knew he had screwed up aiming a loaded weapon at a officer.

i think that is a fair reaction... when we had uzi practices as the range... all officers had been really jumpy for the turn around of us fellas... if we got a real good see to before hand that wouldn´t have occured tho... but allas... our commander was a wee whippersnapper... so no hard yelling then...

Fragging ???

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/08 22:28:40

I have a strong opinion of VietNam because of my Father. He was Drafted into the US Army on his 18th Birthday and spent his Senior year of High School (after the Tet Offensive) knowing exactly where he was going and he didn't have a say in the matter. He was an Engineer in VietNam and had been in Cambodia clearing LZs when Richard Nixon said on TV that The US wasn't in Cambodia. To clear LZs he sprayed Agent Orange and who knows what else. His officer sent him out with a Bucket Loader and no support when an RPG whizzed between the seat and steering wheel. He always loved kids because he was a big kid himself, and would give young Vietnamese kids chocolate and extra rations etc. often. Once, one of those kids threw a satchel charge at him and he had no choice. He died at age 54 of a Brain Tumor.

It's not glued, just popped in there for the moment like the hatches. I magnetized the Battle cannon, and the housing rotates freely, however strangely, the one sponson sticks while the other moves freely. I couldn't see any warpage or anything that would cause it, but the tread assemblies have an inward slanting stance that is different (probably pinching the action), but I like it.

whoa... again i had to call in a dakka leave of absence day/night due to man flu...

dave... i think your dad would be a good man to know...and since you have that good image of him to think about...he will in essence live forever...

the fresh work on the malc is looking very good... the sandy color i really like... i got to ask the same stuff like nerdy... does this in any way may cause you to start a new... praetorian army maybe? which i can only encourage you as i think that would be a cool thing...

your color range... that is awesome... looks like a candy store...

by the way... for my own tank... i think i will have to use the exhaust setup like you have on the malc... looks fitting...

That Valk is painted!! I couldn't play with unpainted minis! Heresy!
I actually didn't get to play with it, just the Tbolt and Marauder Destroyer.

The first game was a FFA, and the greatest lesson learned was "Watch your speed in the Tbolt!" It's REALLY fast, and REALLY maneuverable

I roleld initiative 6, so I moved last and shot first, the problem with that is you have to declare your maneuver at the beginning of the turn, before everyone else moves, so I ended up zooming around just to get behind others, only to roll friggin ones!

I didn't kill anything because my rolls all sucked

For the second game, it was teams. I had the Marauder Destroyer. The greatest lesson learned was "the Marauder Destroyer can only make wide turn maneuvers", so my only choice was to lazily fly around the big square 4-table set-up! LOL

Until the other team finished off all my teammates and ganged up on me

That stupid friggin space elf ship has a shield and an invulnerable save, totally OP IMHO.
I shot one down with my donkey gun, until they hit my targeting, forcing me to need to roll a six to hit, but they never got in front of me, they were all deathly afraid of my 3 twin-linked autocannons (6 dice, all re-rollable) and 8 skystrike missiles. The Marauder Destroyer is one tough bastard, it took 12 hits, didn't get destroyed, but they forced me off the table

For clarity, the dice on the terrain features represent the height of the terrain. The little black hex ticker is your speed and altitude indicator. If you dive or fly into a terrain feature at the same height as you, you crash into it. This is a game where less terrain is better!
The funniest moment of the evening, was when the space marine bumblebee thing couldn't move because it's max elevation sucks so bad. Made me smile!.
It was good fun.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/11 02:22:44

Post by: shasolenzabi

So, the T-bolt suffered from over powered thusters, and the Marauder is a poor turner. That means the monster Ork mega bomma I have is likely to have crap for turning, good ting I have plenty of twinlinked big shootas on it.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/11 02:24:10

Post by: SagesStone

Well it's not about turning with the Ork one, it's just flying the right way in the first place to hit them so you can just jump out and start using the chopper.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/11 02:29:51

Post by: dsteingass

No, I just had the speed turned up too high, you move your speed x6", so you may end up over flying your target. You want to end the move behind them where the armor is weakest, and they usually don't have weapons. I should have just started slow and straight with the Marauder, you can fire one weapon per crew member per turn

Officer comes to the tank.
Officer: "I say! Carruthers, what the deuce is going on here, don't you know there are 50more vehicles waiting to get moving?"

Tank leader Carruthers: "Sorry Sar! seems one of the townies let their dray-beast get stomach flu right in the middle of the bloody intersection!"

Officer: "Oh, I see, well, can he make the bloody beast move?

Carruthers; "Sorry Sar! seems he has not one bit of control over the animal, so we figured we will just drive right on, if the beast moves all the better for the towny, if not, well, too bad for him!"

Officer: "Well, no need to be so callous Carruthers! if the beast is crushed, he can come right to me for a voucher to get his beast and kit replaced outo fhte company exptra-ordinary expenses account, provided that Sargeant Singleton hasn't already absconded with them or gambled them away."

Carruthers; "Yes sar! Capital idea! That is why you are an officer, and me a simple tank jockey! " Changes to shout inside tank.
Right! gun that engine and let's do the the good officer says, drive on!"

Officer: "Splendid job Carruthers, splendid! Oh those things do splatter much when a tank drives them over! Okay sir, if you walk to my staff vehicle, we will write you out that voucher, then take it to the quartermaster sargeant at our base and he'll hand you the recompensation, what? no, no, no need to thank me, you just go get that new healthy animal and get back in business." Then, "Just try to avoid letting your new animal get sick in the way of His Majesty's convoy or we will have to lock you up for it the second time."

HAHA

I think I need some advice here.

I know the coat needs to be a darker red, but his gear (kit, pouches, straps, etc.)....should It be all white? Or should I mix and match it or do something completely different?
I know it looks a bit flat now, that's because it's just very thin layers of color blocked in because I am still undecided on the exact scheme to use.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/13 17:29:44

Post by: Meade

You might want to consider some light-warm browns, like a tan or beasty brown, that would tie together the yellows and the reds.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/13 17:44:18

Post by: dsteingass

Do I want the yellow piping? I'm not up on late 1870s British Uniforms, but American ones had different colored piping (white-infantry, yellow-cavalry, and red-artillery)- Of course there were no armored divisions at the time so...??
I know the buff-colored Pith helmets were iconical to the Africa campaigns of the British Empire at the time, and I sort of envisioned these Praetorians and this Malcador on a planet with that type of climate. Mediterranean to Desert.
Below are my inspirational photos for this whole project
(not my work)

I know this is Italian, but I liked the wash around the rivets (for a 15mm tank)

I do NOT personally like the grey and tan camo scheme, so I'll be omitting that part. Not shooting for historical accuracy, I'm just trying to capture the "look and feel" as usual.

Post by: Valhalla130

Typically, the cavalry in the US Army has become either air cav, with helicopters, or armored, with tanks. So I say make them cavalry, since that would be an armoured unit.

I like the white leather look. Wasn't that a thing the British did?

Although looking it up, they also had many variations, including your normal leather brown, and a tan color. So you could make them how you want. Still... it seems to me a Praetorian would have the most stunning, utterly impractical option. Which would be the white leather. lol

THAT! was the first thing i thought too when seeing him atop the tank... yes... now it all makes way more sense^^

by the way... do you know a cheap way beside ebay to get me SW lego minis? my kids have developed quite the expensive taste it seems.... my felix wants an emperor... and if i have understood my wife correctly she might want some ewoks.... bloody fething expensive everywhere.... so we went this weekend to lego shop... and boy... almost nothing of any goodies there that i would have wanted to buy.... so i went back to ebay once more... scored some acutions... (won a darth maul with his flyer and some other classic bitz too...) but the thrist for really cool things stays....

I'm too lazy to do all that weathering, but it does look really good. Your's was apparently really fast too. Care to advise how you did it?

Thanks! It is sooo easy, Just a sponge and some Rhinox hide brown for scratched paint chips, then a gloss coat of future and an oil-paint mix of black/brown so far.

Something just isn't working out with the paintjob on the Commande though, I'm a bit baffled. I can only assure you that he looks better from farther away than he does in these macro photos.

I'll vouch for that - he looks awesome from the other end of my boat

Thanks Monkey

As you can see, I still have a LOT of work ahead of me.

Perhaps I need to change the color of his mutton chop/mustache? Or maybe do something with his skin color? I just don't seem to be getting the definition I want.

Darken the mutton chops, (actually that is the "Beefeater" cut.

..And Here I thought Beefeater was just a brand of gin - Learn something new everyday

Speaking of Brits, any of you airbrush hobbyists over there should jump on this ebay deal
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350637814832&item=350637814832&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466
These go for $3.75 each here in the US.

Also, I was just ordering a couple of spare needles for my Badger Patriot 105 from Amazon (the cheapest place for AB parts, really), and picked up this Chinese knock-off for $8!!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L4S3KS/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00
The reviews are good, and it appears to have all the same features of my Badger Renegade Krome or the Iwata HP-CS (.3mm needle/nozzle, teflon-coating (not important for acrylics, only solvents)
But for $8, I'll try it! If it's any good, it would be excellent for a class or something.

I've always known that style as 'friendly muttonchops'.

Hell, for $8 if it breaks after a couple of minis it's going to have been worth it

Looks fantastic Dave! really awesome tank! nearly enough for me to paint a tank now! :-) weathering is spot on and the commander looks fine! but if you ever want me to paint a figure for one of your models let me know, i'd love t do it and it would be an honor to paint something different like Mr Mutton there :-)

what else have you to do on the tank?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/11/14 23:05:26

Post by: dsteingass

Thanks nerd! No problem man, but this is just an el-cheapo Wargames Factory plastic fig

Some progress, not at all what I wanted, but I'm growing tired of repainting the same 1/2 man, and it's magnetized, so I can easily replace if I want to

It's funny, now when you go to the link it is only $6- so I ordered a second one..for parts!

Funny, that same airbrush that I bought at $8, then again at $6 is $27.96 today!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001L4S3KS/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00
(retail is still $60) I either took advantage of a bug @Amazon.com, or a mistake pricing or something

the tank is making me feel quite akward... you are so damn quick in painting that one up to such a quality... *shudders*

the new beard on yon commander looks way better... tho the white would have greatly supported his authority

the only one thing i wold suggest is darken the red of his jacket... i always use mecharite red instead of blood red and so on as it is better to look at and not that agressive in a certain light... but that might be due to personal preferrences ... any way... the tank looks very good even tho you declare it still unfinished

Nice tank Dave , the praetorian on top is spiffy

Thanks guys! I still have all the metalwork yet to do on the tank, I'll be working on that tonight hopefully. Right now it's jsut sprayed with Vallejo gun metallizer (basically metallic black) - I believe this will be my go-to metal basecoat color from now on, since you guys all think it is already done

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@Vik- The coat is white primer, Evil Sunz Scarlett, then a glaze of red (bloodletter). But you're basically saying it needs more shadow?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
& Vik- I wanted white chops too, but it was too much white. I have plenty more (2 boxes) of the Wargames Factory Zulu War Brits- GenCon special buy

@Neil, Thanks! To hear "spiffy" from a real Brit about my attempt at a Stereotypical Brit is an honor

Praetorian are one of the few classic IG metal figs that I don't have any of in my collection. I always wanted at least one of each sculpt. Now that you can no longer get them for less than the price of your left genital, these Plastics will have to do

If Anyone has any classic Metal Praetorian they'd be willing to trade, please PM me.

the wargames factory zulu praetorian stand ins are still on my long term to buy list... as if i need more plastic

and you are basically right... the old metal GW praetorians are of the scale concerning pricing...

i was not really referring to the shadow/light issue but rather to the brightness of the red you used... for my own taste i like the darker, richer looking foundation red better than the other reds you might choose from... as i said... its a taste thing...

and i bet you don´t expect any unused praetorian minis to be available

Always possible that someone picked one or two up in a job lot of minis off e-bay.

Not very likely - but possible all the same

Personally I'm with the bright scarlet for good old British uniforms

Edit: Of course you could always go the route of Mordians with some of Victoria Lamb's pith helmeted heads

a bit heretical to saw off so many fine mini heads... wouldn´t it

Umm, NO!

Chopping up minis is what it's all about vik

Closer to heresy to leave them in one piece a lot of the time

Now shush or the Ordo Exacto will come looking for you.....

ok... i be frank... i am way too clumsy when it comes to chopping metal minis... i bet i would utterly destroy the whole thing...i bet thus that "bettering" these is atm out of the question for me

LOL, The Ordo Xacto!

Here I detail airbrushed the sand yellow color again to show that even the weathering gets weathering from sandstorms etc.

I think you'd need to consult the Clippers and razor saws Union for metal minis though...The Xacto isn't much good there

Well, yeah, those would be the proper tools, but I've made by with Xacto's in the past And they come under the jurisdiction of the Ordos Xacto anyway don't they? They get everywhere in ther Inquisitorial Cutters
