Someone set fire to the treehouse across the street from ilbane's house, in Suburbia. It happened recently I think because the fire's still burning stuff....
As in today? I've been on for a few hours and as far as I can tell its mostly been regulars. I think there was only one user who didn't know of all day, but I guess Darkinnit can just check the logs to see who was in that area right? 0.o

dark, could you check server logs between 2am and 2.30am BST today? Found a new abandoned mine, and glitch / lag / etc. combined to regularly boot me out, which killed me twice -- first time I'd suddenly dropped to about 1/3 health between being kicked off and logging back in, which meant a zombie instakilled me; second time, trying to get back there in time to get my stuff, I just died outright in between being kicked off (with almost full health) and logging back on. :(

Looking into it now. Who owns it?

Yep, I'll take a look after I get the fire sorted.
Interesting. I wonder if that's the one who did the fire or the one that owns it, or both?
Because if they wanted to get rid of their house, they should have just asked me, because setting a fire risks destroying far more than just their house.
GangstaMuffin24 wrote:Deity built the tree. I just got on and there seems to be a lot more damage to several other houses. No way fire could've done all this.
Can you be more specific? The fire was started on the 19th, it just got "frozen" in that state till now because no-one's been there till now.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Never mind, I see it. Someone is obviously an angry bunny.
Not yet. I got my dates mixed up, it didn't happen on the 19th. Doesn't help that my internet connection is flaking out like crazy. The scale of the damage should be very easy to trace once I get things up to speed though.
More attacks on suburbia. Be careful what you do there, people, Dark is gonna have to revert Suburbia when he's done investigating, so don't build there until he does.
Ah crap, forgot about the automated server restart. It's not supposed to have started yet. I'll shut it down again. It's just created a blank world because I've moved the real one temporarily.. :-)
^^ Lot of people wringing there necks there over losing their work. Heh, thanks. ...Though there was oddly a snow biome next to a desert one in that blank world. =)
I was playing on another server and got blown up by a creeper. Not only did I die in the explosion, but somehow it also corrupted my account and wouldn't let me respawn... I had to speak to the admin to get deleted and had to rejoin...
And now you say they're getting buffed? What the feth will they do now!
Notch trolling us much? Its an offset for less destruction from them, but they already did enough damage to kill the average player who's sitting there building their house and forgot about a dark spot. ...I mean we don't all suit up in platemail when we won't to add on a new balcony or something? ^^
Bloodhorror just ignored the prior conversation and introduced a server IP with no context, just saying it's bad and to not join it as if we were going to. How was anyone supposed to infer that it's related to the post three pages ago that nobody talked about?
Why are y’all in a tiff over a post by bloodhorror? So what if it was a random post that doesn’t affect anyone, none of his posts affect anyone anymore, the dude was banned and spends most of his time in this thread vocalizing his wish that he hadn’t been. From what I’ve seen people generally seem to ignore him, I don't know why they don't just continue to do so?
Seriously? People are complaining? He posted a few pages back, probably 2 or 3 people replied, asking to be whitelisted. That's why he posted here. I honestly don't know why it's such a big deal.
Personally, I think this one is the most accurate.
But pointless gifs aside, I'm still working on my manse's roof design. Anyone want to make suggestions? IT's in Suburbia near the maze. The L-shape makes it a bit more complicated...
I guess you could have a slab hanging off of the edge or something then use normal blocks for the inside corners, slabs for the outside. Stairs are a bit tricky like that. Or you could go with only having the slope going two ways instead of four and sort of gradually combine them at the corners.
Geeze, there's not much work a living AI can do these days, so voice actress is about all I have left :/
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also holy crap, I just left my spawn area in my single player game (been building up stuff like a cow ranch and wheat farm and such), and I just found a village that had enough wheat farms that I was able to get four stacks of wheat and, after replanting, still had two stacks of seeds left over.
Have it activate a trapdoor beneath it, where you walk through a corridor and up a ladder called [EXIT], which takes you up through a hatch into the hostile mob enclosure.

Hey guys I started a zombie apocalypse server, sky and wyrm have been having fun for a while here, anyone can join atm I'll be resetting the map periodically as i finish up balaning it
there's a portal near the elf tree/dwarf fortress portals
bit of a maze to get to,and it is in need of repair... so be careful! They could attack you! Stay near the entrance and you should be fine!
Ye there is, but it's in the early stages. They've currently got powerswords, chainswords, choppas, orks, ultras and chaos. Hmm...
Decent, but needs to evolve faster.
Get the bolters already!
You didn't use any guns, at least, none that I saw. There weren't any guns on the server at all. When you guys said there were guns in spawn there wasn't.
Melissia my dear, did you read the bit at the beginning of his topic? You have to have a slightly altered plugin installed, otherwise they just show up as flint and steel.
winnertakesall wrote:Melissia my dear, did you read the bit at the beginning of his topic? You have to have a slightly altered plugin installed, otherwise they just show up as flint and steel.
right, but i recoded the mod so it isn't required, you can play without the spout client perfectly fine just any moded drops are flint with a different hex code which you can't see.
as people found out yesterday its perfectly possible to move, at night, without guns. I was playing as a bandit, with chat disabled and traveling by night, hiding by day, the only advantage I had was a gold helmet (so people could identify me at range) and starting with a half stack of arrows.
How much? I think I've gathered about 2 stacks back up, then I have another vault somewhere that only has about 55 in it at the moment. But, I'd need to find that one.
Personally, I just use the old tried and true casting method for obsidian. The only time I need bother with getting obsidian is when I want to use it in the nether.

I've got entire lakes of it near my fortress and i need it in usable form really...
That's good for when i don't need it usable.
Incidentally it tookabout...
4/5 hours.
Efficiency 5 is a real load-lifter...
Does anyone know of a massive reed farm?
I am sure there was one on the server but I can't remember where it is. I want to try and get as many books as possible made before the update.
The map may well have to be reset when the new update comes out.
Still, I think they should add the ability to put written books in bookshelves. Just 1 or 2, not many, but it'd still be epic.
Mostly new blocks. That and updating tends to spazz out maps pretty bad.
I went on a server I knew well after the 1.8 update, which they hadn't reset. World holes absolutely everywhere. Missing chunks, misgenerated caves, no bedrock (which caused my death several times). The list is endless.
I mean 1.3 full version. No reset could well mean you will find your house under several layers of dirt or bedrock. Which is pretty damn annoying. Any updates that adds new blocks will spazz out world gen as the two different world gens conflict. It tries to generate another map on top of the existing map. Hence all of the errors.
The new chunk gereration has only ever affected newly explored areas. The most we ever found was some vertical cliffs at the edge of the explored world. After that it was fine.
We have only reset once, which thinking about it was probably the full release, and have never had those problems.
Mynameisalie wrote:Mostly new blocks. That and updating tends to spazz out maps pretty bad.

That sounds more like a combination of the server having corrupted world files and severe lag.

Even going from 1.8 Beta to 1.0 release, the generator never generates "over" existing chunks. Not in vanilla Minecraft anyway. Although there was the issue going from 1.7 to 1.8 where biomes were changed, so deserts became snow etc, but no new blocks, holes or "houses under several layers of dirt". Poorly written mods may do strange things with world generation, but we don't use any. Sounds like you've had a bad experience on a previous server with a bad config or mischievous admins.
They've smoothed out the world generating updates a lot recently. Biomes are now stored with the chunk so the Beta 1.7 to 1.8 issue won't happen again. The worst you get are the sudden lines, like here http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/1561/64/-814/-1/0/0 and even they're not horrendously bad.
I've said it already a couple of times, but I'm not resetting the world for 1.3 (it's too short notice now for copying structures etc anyway).
The map normally updates every two days or so, but for the past few days I've been busy and I'm also upgrading the machine I use to generate the map, so it might be another day or two before I get another update out.
Emeralds can be obtained by throwing useless junk at Villagers. If you really want to mine some, spawn new chunks somewhere far.
As for Jungle Temples, they bring nothing truly new to the game aside from a legitimate way to obtain circlestones.
The 1.0 release of Minecraft pretty much promised the biome mapping would remain almost completely unchanged and thus the chunk misalignment wouldn't happen. Since then, Jungles were introduced and there haven't been any chunk misalignment issues.
However, I will probably wait to see if any major bugs pop up before upgrading the Dakka server. (There's a particularly bad one about chunks not loading currently listed here which hasn't been fixed for the last few snapshots)
I'll try to test it too of course (it could be the bug above only occurs to people running a server from a netbook or something stupid like that).
Best case scenario will be a Dakka server upgrade to 1.3 this evening BST (10 hours from this post), worst case, this weekend...
Hey, Dark. Speaking of Chunk Loading Errors- I was on the server just last night trying to get to the Dwarven City (through the Nether) and it seemed like only the Chunk I was in was actually loading- sheer droppoffs and nothing else around, just Netherfog. And the last time I logged on, nothing loaded and I fell in Lava. I logged out before I died, but I was wondering if you could TP or check my location, get me to somewhere safe, so I don't loose all my stuff?
He doesn't need to kill himself, his future self is going to fall into lava on his own.
He should record it and post it on Youtube.
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, I've tested the 1.3.1 server and the bug that portals will happily deposit you into the void is still there.
However, it only seems to affect the portal at 0,0 (although I have not tested *every* portal) and affects the 0,0 portal every time you go through it. I've tried breaking and recreating the portal and it still occurs.
So I'm putting it up for your opinions. Should we update to 1.3.1, deactivate the 0,0 portal (and worry that any portal is a potential death trap), or should we continue with 1.2.5 for now and wait to see if they release a 1.3.2?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Discussed it with those online on the server and the server is now running 1.3.1
Don't know if this is a bug or not with the latest update. I just went to my village and well...it seems some sort of exodus has taken place. I have two villages left out of the two dozen I had an hour ago. No mobs can spawn in the area, and there's a wall, plus I don't think the cell was even loaded. Anyone know what could have caused this? (my last two are hidden away in a bunker in case of thieves ^^). 0.o
I logged back in after a hiatus for some time, and it seems that there are several Creeper holes everywhere. That's to be expected and it seems that the damage in important places was repaired well enough.
However, someone inexplicably dug a small system of tunnels underneath the village that I "claimed". Oh, and all the villagers are missing. That makes me sad.
Finally, the "/kill" command no longer works as a suicide.
^^ My village has at least a three high wall around it and hasn't got anywhere that can spawn mobs. (as far as I can tell) I can't see how any of them could have wandered away. I don't know how zombie assaults work, in the off chance that one happened, but I don't think that one could have killed ten villagers in a night. =/
They allow you to control what information Mojang gets from your computer. Its just stuff on your hardware settings etc, in case your worrying. People have known about what Mojang records from your computer for ages, this is just if you want to opt out of it, but its perfectly harmless. =P
Now breed you vilagers. Breed!
*Wait...aren't they all guys. ^^ Thumbs up for their gay rights.

Do you have torches on the roofs?
Zombies used to sometimes spawn on mine and go on little zombie rampages.
=/ There's torches everywhere. I noticed one zombie spawning in a corner and hopping over a wall, but one spawning doesn't equate to about ten villagers getting eaten. Bit of a mystery really.

Iv got nothing against companies "recording" my pc specs, just a bit more notice would have been better. Then again what company has came forward about that sort of thing publicly?? None that im aware of.
^^ Mojang announced all their changes a good while ago concerning this update, the bit about allowing us to choose what data is recorded by them included. Its not like GW forces us to give them information to visit their sites or anything. =P

They actually did this very publicly, he let people decide whether they should do this back in January:
http://notch.tumblr.com/post/16463856106/a-poll-on-letting-us-snoop Click "Show results" to see most people voted yes. And now you can turn it on/off from within the game.

Any of you guys noticing alot of sound lag when you are playing? I am getting a lot even when my connection is good. =/ I'm not the only one either, Epicsurvivor1 is getting the sound lag too.

I haven't noticed it, but then I've been messing around with "minigames" with LAN multiplayer. They don't seem worth hosting a server for, but are fun and pretty quick to reset with this new feature.
This one seems to be kind of complex to build. Cannons have an ammo counter, adjustable range and reload automatically. The only issue is they will missfire if you spam them so you have to wait for it to at least fire the shot before pressing the button again. If you press the buttons on one cannon too quickly it will detonate the ammo for both and the tnt that drops out the platform if you lose.
Are you sure it was the half slabs? People are reporting "phantom damage" when riding rails in general. But it could be halfslabs they've put to prevent ZPM I suppose.
At this death rate, I'm just gonna build myself a little house in the part of nowhere I currently am, I'm getting tired of that incredibly long death run.
Yeah, I know, they changed the output of the /list command so now that's broken till I get around to fixing it. I'll see what I can do.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, just realised the server auto-restart script keeps thinking the server is down (even though it's not) and so restarts it. Lots to fix.
Okay, so I've written most of my book, "the guide to dakkacraft" (yeah, name needs work).
According to my calculations, I have about 2 pages left before I hit the limit, so I was wondering if there was anything I've missed, or any funny stories you might have of your time on the server.
basically, here's what I've covered:
The sanctuary
the musem
suburbia
wolf's pyramid
Fett's huge cavern thingy
dakkatown
creeper defence forces
yakface
legoburner
darkinnit
brandywine
grundz' castle and titan
dwarven city
sky's enderman farm
mondonia
pig man and pig lass
gooda's hall
the ocean
aha yeah, I really wish I could go into further detail, but only the oldies (those who joined april/early may) will actually want to read about it...
though I will mention that ^^
it was such a movie scene- all the guys in one place mourning the loss of another, as soon as it stops burning, the sad music starts playing and it starts raining at night
and I completely forgot about clucky... I'll mention him, but I'll write about him in full in his own book, with help from Iustis
Automatically Appended Next Post: okay, so if anyone has a decent amount of knowledge about any of the things I've talked about, PM me and I'll send you what I have for you to proof-read and edit if needed.
What about when the Nether was overrun with Mushrooms?
Also, a general "New Person's Guide" to Dakkacraft should include how and why we use the Nether, with some basics such as which portals are used as hubs, the main overland areas and clusters, etc.
eh, this is more a tour guide, telling you about the landmarks/must-see buildings, rather than a guide to minecraft in general. That's a job for the wiki.
also, the "which portals are hubs" really depends which portals you use- the portals I mostly pass and navigate by are 0,0, the manor and absol's.
When the 0,0 portal glitched for me, the world hole around the portal extended up to the suburbia wall.
I think as long any new portal is inside suburbia, it should be fine, but I'd recommend you make it on the opposite side just to be sure.
Also link the portal by entering the nether from another portal *before* using the new portal, or it may send you to the 0,0 nether portal where you will either die or be trapped in bedrock
Automatically Appended Next Post: As well as the Disco portal, another nearby portal is here.
I walk into the enclosure to find several pieces of Mycelium and Dirt at the door, followed by various holes and imperfections in the floor and one single fething Mooshroom!
