Well I got my primer and started to paint the interior, I still have a couple more peices to put in there (including the gunners) but here's the WIP so far.. plus my mysterious figure, I wont explain anything about him besides the fact that I sculpted the doll in his hand.. you'll just have to waite and see how he's going to be painted C&C's welcome... oh and btw someone told me to paint Nuka Cola on that red container.. hehe I laughed to myself then and they still have no idea why
thanks Dave, and thanks Childe.. oh childe I hope my paint job turns out how i imagion it because I really want you to not have expected what was coming... the only real "hint" is those rectangles on the base (but its a large stretch to guess), as well as the teddy "bear"/ voodoo doll
well I only finished the face on my mystery INQ model.. and it is hands down my favorite model, and hands down my best model.. by far! I cant wait to show you guys, but im going to try to get the greatest photos possible so that you can be as happy as I am
well here we go, I put 1:30 hours into this and I adore it! I sculpted the little batman doll, added some nice Joker cards to the base.. as well as other little details.. C&C welcome...
That valk's interior as awesome love the way you have picked out all the detail plus the colours you have added really lifts it sometimes they can be a bit bland IMHO so nice work.
The second guard pic looks very British to me, not sure why but he does we will call him Waxy get it
The Joker is great Fantastic idea and carried of so well, the cards were a nice touch but the batman doll steals it for me, I even forgot I was looking at a Inquisitor model
I have to say I that is one of my favourite pieces to date, great job Rouge …… " BUT WHY SO SERIOUS "
thanks a ton MetalOxide! nice to see a new face, I hope the banter didnt keep you down thanks for the high prase LDD it means alot, im glad you liked my Joker as I was experimenting to attempt the partialy sweated off makeup where skin is showing (off the top of my head its on in the interogation scene in the dark knight) and hmm LDD maybie you should PM me why he is called waxy and i might secretly write waxy in my valk
Im glad you liked the cards, I tried to throw those batman details in (such as the chalk bats on the street from the newest movie), and I'll try to get some better pics, as it was really late when I took these (but i was too excited!) so it blends some colors in too much, plus I want a clearer Avatar
awww man... i feel such a jerk RW... i just dissed your new avatar on the other thread... now i feel i have to put my foot in my mouth...
that joker idea is totally wicked!!! at first i took it as sloppy painting... wich i think you have grown out of...! but now... seeing the full model... very cool looking paintjob and the idea and the execution...hurhurhur...cause thats what the joker is intending to do soonish with that voodoo doll... super cool!!!
well... we conquer the world... first attempts failed... now we get you yanks with pancakes instead... you will be so full you wont be ablöe to defend yourself
guys are terrible. I will have to just walk on over and bail you out of your ultimate doom again during some kind of world war. Better hope my fat butt will make it in time :/
Thanks neil! Im glad you like him, and the model is actualy Slick' Devlan from the Inquistor range (larger scale), but I chopped off one gun and sculpted the doll, added a pouch and another knife.. but for the most part its the same model
Automatically Appended Next Post: When I went to go buy Arkham City, I saw fallout 3 for like 10$.. so I snached it up, oh the rivet inspiration will be nice
Yeah, more or less. I finally got over my D3 craze and recently returned from a business trip, so apart from still having lots of stress at work, one could say I'm back. Currently painting some random miniature just to get back in the saddle.
Ok Vik this is all your getting for now, I wanted it to be a blurry teaser.. but the camera took a crystal clear shot (of course when I dont want it) so I had to make it really dark so you couldnt see anything
Yeah i like it too! i must be becouse of the darkness in the photo.. and a quicktip for you then RW: think like that every time you take photos in the future!
after the moving you will be finished... beleive me did some furniture house movings already... and i always ended up a broken man afterwards... god how i hate these^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:after the moving you will be finished... beleive me did some furniture house movings already... and i always ended up a broken man afterwards... god how i hate these^^
THat tells me that you overdid it. remember vik Hydrate...
Rogue Wolves wrote:Ok im "finished" but before I take a pic I have to help my sister move into her house, so it will be coming later tonight
at galorn... you are probably right on all accords...^^
at RW... that camo is really looking very cool... you are indeed a dumbbum^^ if you think otherwise of this fine piece of work...
th ONLY downside on the model is the clear canopy... i think you need to paint some metal work on this... something to deatract from the fact it is still all a plastic kit instead of a RL killing machine... the clear plastic puts it back into the realm of toys... which kills the illusion...
other than that it is a superb thing... and it really is even able to change my view on the kit and the issue i have with it... in fact convert it to IG and it is a all time winner!
Dude that's some great stuff! I really like the Joker! I just watched that movie again the other day. It's the only movie that has come out since Robocop that I saw in the theater more than once.
You are stepping up in painting and in photography. Keep up the good work!
RW your paint scheme actually makes that model like able. Sadly for me space marine air ships have always just been TONKA toys and apprently in the fluff they even just have anti gravity devices... OH SURE turn off physics marines totally normal.. then again i guess so. In the end fabulious work mate.
Well its been a while since an update (one is coming tomorrow) but I'll say that =][_,= terrain competiton 2 is in full blast at the RW cave, bad news is the camera is just about dead... so im going to need some batteries asap!

Thanks vik, and those "templates" are... going to be worked on today .. and those blueish things are Hirstarts accessory molds! Im going to need alot of nice boxes and crates.. some computers, doors.. and other various bits from these molds for this peice (which i kinda already told Dave, while I was asking him a question )
Good night my freind, and hey I was gifted these molds for Christmas! But im not sure what im going to cast them in yet, I do have plaster of paris which I used before.. but that breakible.. not sure yet
@klaus, thanks for the vist and what to cast my molds with, I'll definatly be looking at all these suggestions to figure out which is best for what i can get
Dental Plaster is superb, but if you want a smaller than 50lb box, you can get "Permastone" at Michael's or Hobby Lobby pretty cheap, it's the same stuff. Easier to use than resin.
I've been finding that the apes that set up and play on my table are bit too rough for hydrocal and I'm not ready to try resin. Will check into the Permastone you mentioned.
Well guys, I'm up in Hollywood working for my sister all this week, meaning I cant update on my terrain piece yet, although I brought some guardsmen with me and if I have time to paint them at all this week you'll see a nice little update on sunday!
So the LA battle bunker is having a Golden Daemon like competition in october, I'm going to try to enter as many categories as I can but.. up untill now all I've shown you was tabletop quality, so I want to start my first showpeice quality.. after much thinking and frequent trips to PDH's great thread here on dakka I decided im going to use the typical Nurgle Lord for the basis of my conversion.. here are the final 3 designs that I have to choose from (all done in GIMP), im currently leanning twords the Genestealer Cultist but I would love your opinions!
I like all three designs tbh. The Genestealer Cult is a good idea, BUT, they generally aren't fat, something to do with genetics or some such... The chaos Cultist is a good idea also, but due to his size, maybe he'd be better off as a nurgle cultist? and the inquisitorial one is where I'd put my money, but again there is a but, I have seen this model turned into an inquisitorial henchman too much.
Personally out the three I'd most like to see the Genestealer hybrid, but if you went that route I'd suggest doing one of the following.
Make his belly look like he has a gestating stealer inside it. give it an additional arm that is nore nid-esque. I was going to suggest some hybrid alien heads, but I cannot find the damned link for the life of me... I think it was for warsmith miniatures, but their site doesnt seem to load for me :/
thanks for the imput childe, I think if I made him I will put the aditional arm, I think that would look cool, and hybrid heads I'll have to take a look around for good ones.. the thing about making him Nurgle is.. I dont like Nurgle.. at all, but my problem with the =][= is like you said, its been done.. I think it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to do one that dosent look like im copying PDH, because thats what I would probibly do
Yeah thats a problem when using mini's like that nurgle lord as the basis...
have you considered looking around at other miniatures from different companies as the basis of something? Like what I did to start Severin Thoth off for my =][= retinue.
The only reason why I hadent is because its a GW painting contest and I doubt they would accept those.. but I do plan on making a hole squad of GS cultist eventualy
ok, new suggestion... why not make a Genestealer Magus from that nurgle character? He could have a gestating Patriarch in his stomach... or, you could use the newest Chaos sorceror as a thin Genestealer Magus?
Also... get rid of the double handed axe.. nearly everyone who has converted that model has kept the axe... try something different like one arm holding a staff/glaive, while the other has a hand clutching its belly or something.
Automatically Appended Next Post: This is the one i mean RW:
I think if you go with genestealer magus it HAS to be of a non weapon nature... having said that, I have seen mini's with insence burners used as weapons lols (plague censure burners from the skaven for one lols)
also, all genestealer cultists are more robed than armoured as its not something they generally think about
basically one of the second in commands after a genestealer patriarch, he's a strong psychic presence which helps build the signal for the hive fleets to approach.
usually, but tbh it can be anything, they did used to have access to a lot of officer type weapons, so if you want it as something useful look at what a Primaris Psyker has access to and you'll have the idea...
I kinda like the idea of a insence burner as a force weapon lols...
Automatically Appended Next Post: here's some images that may help you out:
right I am now off to bed as it is 5am lols... so if you need anything just inbox me dude!!
Nice idea's Rogue love the chaos renegade idea, plus I have not seen that one done, have to agree the Inquisitor version has been done to death so I would leave that one out although I do like the design of the face mask
The Genestealer idea is a new approach and I do like it, but as UAC has mentioned they usually are thinner build, however it still looks pretty dam cool so why not build it anyway
The Chaos sorcerer idea would work well for a base model, however why not build all of them
^ I do plan on entering as many of the categories as possible... maybie do a GSCultists for a 40k squad, which means that my single mini would have to be something bigger and more amazing, thanks for the imput LDD.. and Dave, with your luck.. I survived near death and killed a dragon so thanks
well most I've asked think the GSCultist would be an interesting one to do, Im still redrawing it though so no final decissions yet.. although it is definatly in the lead
Well I guess I tried to stay away from telling you how I "hobby killed" myself this weekend, I bought the lord, and the sculpt turned out good for my first time, but my brush was thick and hard but I was too excited, so the paint job is crap, and im going to try to save it by paint stripping it
Rogue Wolves wrote: Well I guess I tried to stay away from telling you how I "hobby killed" myself this weekend, I bought the lord, and the sculpt turned out good for my first time, but my brush was thick and hard but I was too excited, so the paint job is crap, and im going to try to save it by paint stripping it
be careful when doing it though dude... although I do want to see a picture of the model before you paint it again!!!
Dont worry, I will definatly take a pic of it, only reason why I didnt before is because the second I bought it at GW I built/sculpted and (attempted) to paint it.. this time I'll take my time
^ Thats what im waiting for, my freind who has thousands of amazing brushes gave me one 0 scale brush, but I still want to buy a 00, and a 1, before I continue
-are you male? yes/no. -Do you like guns? yes/no. -Do you like big explosions? yes/no.

heh heh, it is no Saving Private Ryan, but I do find most military movies inspiring, but I guess it also helps being american, seeing as thats whose fighting in this one

no no no, its been down because of.. well dave guessed it , but I've been guardsmaning up! too bad the camera died so untill batteries.. i cant show you anything
speaking of procrastinating pictures I just got the chaos half of the starter set for 30$.. cheap I know.. and my (now imperial) cultist guy is looking awesome! I think you need to see some pics...
thanks for all the compliments! atm I have 5 wip cultist conversions on my table (pics after dinner), and on the clarity issue.. remeber when my hobby was killed by 1 mini? it was that one.. so you'll have to waite untill I want to look at it again
I can get you some OTHER fatty pictures if you want.. and I KNOW you do
..although the fact that people actually want to see it suprises me.. maybie its time to look at it again
Automatically Appended Next Post: What started as random cultist fun turned into =][= & Necromunda stuff.. I think I might make a thread dedicated to just those two things (but of course put it here too)
Good work on these, I need to get my hands on a set of cultists, some great bits to play around with. My only concern is that a lot of people will have these models making them very recognisable and it might be worth trying to disguise them a bit more.
I am definatly interested in seeing what you come up with, and as im experimenting with them, only a small selection of the bodies have good conversion promise, although the heads (which come off easily!) are very nice, out of all the heads I cut off, not one is damaged.. so I plan on using those when I find a place for them
Good job so far RW, but I am going to be a harsh so let me apologise now
1 The commissar front groin plait, take a blade scrape it back then GS the groin back to the trousers shape, I say this as it is ruining the overall look of what could be a cool looking miniature.
2 The heavy stubber guys armour, it's ok but could be sharpened up a little more IMHO, mix your GS leave it for a bout 15 mins and then try sculpting.
Also try sculpting sections and build up as you go, trying to do all in one go does not work that well.
3 Over all the rest look good so no real issues there
Love the idea of de chaosing them, I only want to help with the feed back as i like the overall look, just feel you can get a better finish plus I am sure you are capable of it
Nice work. I say keep the servo-skull but raise it up, so the cables are trailing down behind his shoulder.
That feels a bit more 'eye-in-the-sky-multi-tooled-dangerous-death-device' and a bit less 'peek-a-boo'
thanks guys, and gotcha monkey troll, lift it up, and again thanks ldd and vik for the nice critisism I put it here for that, that way I can become better!
Glad to help LOL I feel a bit bad some times for nit picking but it helps in the long run Plus you have created some great minis and some cool ideas, the commissar is going to look dam cool once finished …… as long as you sort out the mentioned area
I did not even think of returning them back to guard, necromunda, cultists , gangers and blood pact yes
so traded off my hellbrute and chosen for $25 (meaning I only payed $5 for the cultists!) and with that I bought a box of cadian shocktroops to add to my guardsmen... and also, next week im trading an old executioner and chimera for 2 unpainted chaos squats in terminator armor, and 1 unpainted squat biker!
They are some old squats, I like squats, and I wont use those specific vehicles (they are partialy damaged) anyway, I might get it for one vehicle, but I have the second as a back up... because I do want those squats even though im not really a fan of the terminator/egg armor.. yea dosent make sense to me either
Well heres a little shot of what I'm doing now, a teaser if you will.. because I am too busy with writing up a nice D&D Campaign to take pictures, but I will get you some tomorrow!
3 quick things, 1. Played an amazing game today, me and crons vs orks and ba.. we won and it was glorious! 2. new white dwarf is amazing, blanchitsu, terrain, and kitbash articles are awesome 3. wont get squats till next week unfortinatly.. will be back tomorrow to have a real picture update!
Well RW has been really sick for the past 2 days, sicker than I have been in a while.. so I'm going to wake up a little bit and I'll be back with the pics. and yes it WILL be today I have the camera right next to me infact
I feel bad for not getting a chance to take out my minis.. but after reading the great Blanchitsu article I decided to try and use a medium of art I never have tried before.. watercolor.. these are the first 2 watercolors I've ever done.. ever, C&C is always welcome..
Nice Work Rogue! I think an Airbrush would fit into your hand no problem dood! It's criminal for you to not have one, you already understand how to lay the color down effectively without overdoing it, that's really the hardest part to grasp about watercolors.
Thanks for all the kind words guys, and I agree the proportions on these guys are bad, but they are only about 6inches or so each, I did a nice large one in art class today (penal leagonaire) but I dont have it with me.. well dave i kinda had an airbrush back in pa, since my sister was living with me and she had one...
lunch, then update.. then paint, look what the new WD has done to me!
Pretty Camo man! How is the new rebooted WD format? Better? Worse? Do we still have to read Jervis Johnson's maniacal self-obsessed musings that prove he has lost touch?
dsteingass wrote: Pretty Camo man! How is the new rebooted WD format? Better? Worse? Do we still have to read Jervis Johnson's maniacal self-obsessed musings that prove he has lost touch?
Personally I find it better, its now high end and competes with the like of some Gaming magazines. I has some nice pullouts and features like terrain, what the WD team have painted, conversions, kitbashing etc. Its modern but feels like the original WD's too. I would like to see GW produce WD as the original one, so to include other companies work... the reason I say this is it'd make GW more money, and hopefully mean they could lower their now rediculous prices...
Oh I'm under no illusion that it would never happen... but it'd be nice to see once again... after all it is in the spirit of the hobby, and harks back to their early days...
tis a shame they are so narrow minded... but what can you do, we can hardly boycot a multi-million pound company can we?
Well, there is a lot of hate towards GW, and a lot of it is justified, but if you think about it, their anal control of their IP and their predatory pricing policies only work because we keep buying the stuff from them. And we keep doing that because they keep making stuff that we want to have. From a business perspective, I think that sort of behavior has actually helped in the long run. What other company out there keeps so many products current and in production without much fear of obsolescence? I mean, despite the annual cost raise, they have a dizzying number of products always in-production and in-stock. Sure we bitch about the rule changes every few years, but 3rd and 4th editions just sucked ass, we all agree on that, but overall, they have added a helluva lot more new products than they have nerfed in the last 10 years. I can't think of any other mini company who even has the same products as they did a decade ago.
Very true, very very true... tis a shame they have capitolised on the the exclusiveness of the hobby but such is life.
I know I'm not going to be starting any armies anymore, just finishing old ones off. I can't afford new ones anymore tbh... the only one I am even considering starting from scratch is Chaos Dwarves... but with them being FW and resin, I just dont hve the strt up for it anymore...
Yeah I know...You have to buy a $75 FW book just to get the rules for the Chaos Dwarf stuff, then like you said, everything is then FW resin, except for the strange 1 regular GW product, that cannon that basically is powered by souls...which they just re-released in Finecast.
Well the CD's are pretty much an old skool collectors army... so I partially see where the prices are coming from...
... trouble is I now want the HHFW books, along with every Primarch... now the Primarchs are £50 each, plus the books... now my wallet is going to hate me :(
Your wallet hates you all ready LOL Those Chaos dwarfs are pretty dam amazing plus I have quite a few of the originals as well, but to make an army out of it would be a costly affair.
Dave I see your point, we have driven the success of GW and in the process created the company that it is today, however much we bitch and moan we still continue to buy from them.
So they must be doing something right even though we don't like it, plus even the small independent companies 80% of parts produced are designed to be used with GW minis or gaming.
Vik... these are brand new Forgeworld ones... they had a limited quantity at Gamesday UK of Angron... its bloody gorgeous... there's a peice on it in this months WD.

You just cant beat them.
again, true... which is a pain in the arse to think we're the ones responsible for making the egomaniacs which preside over GW
I would have liked it if GW canned the LOTR line and launched Warhammer 30k from the regular product line instead, I think it would sell better, but that's just my opinion really An all-Plastic pre-heresy Imperial Army? Come on..we'd all jump at that
dsteingass wrote: I would have liked it if GW canned the LOTR line and launched Warhammer 30k from the regular product line instead, I think it would sell better, but that's just my opinion really An all-Plastic pre-heresy Imperial Army? Come on..we'd all jump at that
I like your thinking, but its wish-listing... especially as GW are tied into a contract with New-Line cinema
yeah yeah..3 more movies....I know, but The Hobbit stuff would be best if it were a Mordheim-type skirmish game, since it's more of an adventure story than the epic-scaled battles of LOTR...I dunno.
YES ALL OUR OWN FAULT o well never mind thats why we have mortgages
Dave 30k pleas explain I am feeling a little blonde, as for scrapping the LOTR line no chance GW cash cow that got more new customers through the door than any product before.
They are kicking of in stores all ready in build up to the Hobbit being released, aggressive sales I believe BUY BUY BUY
The Horus Heresy is 10,000 years before 40k, so by my math, 40,000-10,000=30,000 LDD
Yeah Yeah, but how do they sell a different Gandalf mini? How are they going to create army books that are different? Hobbits don't raise armies! It just seems like they would have to just release different sculpts..I dunno, It'll be interesting to see how the whole Hobbit thing works at GW.
that primarch is looking really cool childe... i can see why this one would be a special treat for everyone^^... the way he barges through those marines...lol...
and a 30k product range... wow... the main stupid thing (among others) was that the LotR line was not the same scale as GW´s other stuff... thats why there is so much hate out there... if they had done it heroic style... i wouldn´t be arguing...
Thanks for the obvious statement Dave I meant in what setting would this take place and the general look of said races
I don't think all the minis in the range were that bad, but some were pretty dreadful I do agree, and trust me they will find a way to make new models to sell

Well they have been very thorough with it, the model is on a 40mm base as well as its 60mm one, it removes from its diorama to be usable in games
although its off topic at least my thread has some traffic agian , but dave I do think the magazine is alot better, but jervis still has a 2 pager in it
primarchs are way cool, and the second Alpharius and Omegon come out, I will doing the only non IG army I ever wanted... PREHERESY ALPHA LEGION YEEAA!
Great job with the dark heresy stuff, RW! I haven't seen many people carve those cultists up in the way you have yet, and they've got so much potential... The reclaimed commissar and heavy stubber guy in particular are ace. Can't wait to see where you take em!
The watercolours are awesome, and it's really good to see some concept are - any chance you've been inspired by a particularly spiky group of rats? The hand holding the scope is a little strange, but I'm guessing that was a late addition. The colours are wonderful!
hey scarp thanks for the kind words, especialy on the cultist that means alot! and rats what rats are you talking about? Oh only those 2 amazing guy! Yea.. its them...
I dunno LDD, In the Horus Heresy novels I have read, they really don't go into a lot of detail as to how the Imperial Army looks, I remember them speaking of Las-lock rifles and shakos though. We need to unbrainwash ourselves from the Cadian Look, there are more Guard uniform styles than we can even imagine.

^THAT
I know what you mean, for one, I love the light drop-troop las varient, it looks so sleek and like a P-90
which i like way more than the a bit weird looking P-90... somehow the image of that gun was ruined by stargate... they overused that gun in that show...
The toploading P-90 makes mroe sense for drop troops though, The Famas, just looks too much like an SA-80...
Now as much as I love the beloved British SA-80, it just has too many problems lols... and you know me, I like things to make sense within the game... so P-90 it is
actually since the SA-80 is a shorter version of the L85... that one i like best of the british gun range (atm at least...) somehow they make the bullpop look just pop^^
i don´t really know a lot about these guns... so i just go for the rule of cool here...
Well anything that was the precursor to the SA-80 and later models, had the issue of jamming and barrel warpage. which is why the short barrel was brought into use... tbh, the now shorter barrel range is negligible compared to having to replace the barrel at half its supposed life usage...
that makes sense... tho i never heard of that error of a HK G3... same area back then and you could fire almost endlessly the way heavier amo out of these butugly gunsticks... it´s a puzzler why the L85 was so error friendly...
I never understood it either... might have been a manufacturing error, or possibly the stress testing wasn't as thorough as it should have been... who knows... at least its fixed now
the shortened barrel doesnt make it any less safe tbh... it just makes it easier for drop insertions... and tbh, I'd jump out of a plane knowing it wouldn't snag on my ruddy shoot lols
well american guns are the icon of warfare the last century... you can´t imagine how often i mimiced the sound of an M16 whe i played with paymobil as a kid^^
you know damn well who I mean... them germans who make ruddy big sniper guns... which kick like a mule and make you spend three hours searching for the damned cartridge...
lmao... when I think of guns in the last century I tend to think Bren, Browning, Lewis, Enfield, Webley.
I was brought up loving WW2 and everything British to do with it. My grandfather flew as part of the RAF coastal command, flying Wellington's and Mosquito's.
for me the Mozzie was one of the most iconic British craft to ever fly...
muhahahahaha...cough... er... right ... and you are painting massmurdering monsters... ok... you probably will build up a defense as this is merely art... but a vegetarian that is eating fish...as its not landdwelling animal... is fishy too... if you catch my drift...
