No, I mean why is it so long? Is there some other function to it besides a carrying handle and a sight? Is it also a mechanism of some sort? Or is it just that long so it stays true to the barrel of the weapon?
but there is a massive different between playing wargames, watching action movies and the like and getting in fights and throwing punches.
the first two are simulated, no one gets hurt, the latter... well... you get my point lols

absoloutely no idea, I always thought it was a folding one, but even then that doesnt explain its size... I'm sticking to my original idea... bludgeoning people with
iirc the iron sight is a different approach to get scopes on... on the new rifles from HK you get these ripped structures where you can modify scopes and lasertacs and lights... the L85 doesnt support these... so you just screw thr scope on top of the iron sight /handle... it is a bit weird looking then...
i know its just an airsoft gun in the pic^^
and i know its something else to punch someone or play a game... till you wallop someone with your squiggoth

Rushed into production to replace the Fn-Fal as the service weapon of the British army.
what was wrong with the FN Fal??? that was a nasty piece of kiiling stick...
and just fell off? LOL...
Fn-FAL - Battle rifle
Pros
7.62 x 51 Nato round.
Fairly accurate at long-medium range.
Rugged
Cons
Heavy
Low ammunition capacity per magazine
Expensive per unit cost
Non Nato standard magazines
L85 Bullpup - assault rifle (intended)
Pros
lighter than the Fn-Fal
Bull pup layout (shorter overall length with same or similar barrel length)
better balance
High ammunition capacity per magazine
Fairly accurate at long range and very accurate at medium range
made in the UK Cheaper per unit than the FN-FAL
Shared NATO magazines
Cons
5.56 Nato ammunition
High maintenance
early production runs (gens 1-3) were prone to a laundry list of mechanical failures. (currently issued as a gen 5-6 i believe)
just to be on the safe side here... i know all the stated facts... but is 30 rounds pßer mag contra 20 rounds really that much of a difference? we are not talking a capacity here of an AK47 with up to around fifty rounds per mag???
So how many people here just received 3 squats, 1 squat biker, 1 chaos squat in terminator armor, 1 old (i think) ratling, a p3 wet palet, a roll of cork board, and the brass etched leaves all because of a trade today?
I guess the better question is who wants some pics of a very happy hobby boy!
So you have asked it.. so it shall be..
these squats came without arms or anything I traded 3 (much loved by the people) galorn bases for the old dwarf arms though and also added someones old techmarine claw to the biker, here are some wips...
Yes the guy must have been a bit dumb to trade them for that, those things go for a packet Has he got any more Exo- armour ones left I have about 12 unmade Leeman Russ lying around
lone dirty dog wrote: Yes the guy must have been a bit dumb to trade them for that, those things go for a packet Has he got any more Exo- armour ones left I have about 12 unmade Leeman Russ lying around
last I saw Exo-squats were going for £25 each on fleabay
well he had one more of the same exosquat, plus those cool op walls you see skalk working on, but I couldnt get those from him.. oh and a freind of mine who hasent showed up in a while came in with some old editions of 40k, and lots of cool stuff including the stat card for the bike I have so I'll throw some pics at you guys later
@LDD wtf man 12 unmade Leman Russes dude you should like give me 3 of those

HAH HA HA your so funny mate so funny I bought the tank battalion box years ago as some guy on ebay was selling them rather cheap
I have a use for them just finding the time, shift work kills me I never have any time
I like the look of the Squat with the quilted Flak Jacket and forage cap..exactly as Grimm is described in the Inquisition Wars Trilogy (Ian Watson)- the first -=I=- novel, and the first mention of Jokaero weapons (the spy flies)
Automatically Appended Next Post: ..Actually, I think Draco was the first ever 40k novel..
woh guys dakka wasnt working for me all day, finaly got it to work but too late to update, started painting squats, amd going for a more industrial civilian look as thats how I picture squats, the minorites doing the hard labor jobs, so orange and brown colors mostly.. you shall see
monkeytroll wrote: I think you're right, but it was originally called Inquisitor when it was released. And surely the first mention of Jokaero weapons was RT.
He's right, Jokaero were first mentioned (and given rules) in '87 in Rogue Trader... sorry Dave
unless of course this 40k book has a publication date earlier than RT... then I'll eat the internet
RT was 1987, Inquisitor(Draco) was first published in 2002, and they were dropped from the fluff again until the last Grey Knights Codex, so for 4 Editions of 40K, Jervis Johnson's grimdark Imperium was bigoted against all abhumans. He is your enemy, not me!
I was only 10 years old in in 87, I can tell you all about the GI JOE storyline from then, but not RTlol
Automatically Appended Next Post: my Omnibus edition says 2002, maybe that was the second printing for the trilogy? Anyways..the point is, it's a damn good story, but it doesn't really fit into the canon nowadays.
I think that might have been the first omnibus edition. It was out of print for a long time, then re-published with the Inquisitor title changed to Draco due to having released the game Inquisitor, and with prefaces denouncing the contents as heretical ramblings of Draco.
thanks guys for all those comments... and no childe they didnt die because of nids, I've been told a couple times that gervis said they died of the gay plague.. so...
Ooo those models are very squaty! and lol I was waiting for that comment on mittens from ya
cormadepanda wrote: Man gay plague or nids.. rouge i go with nids if i were you also that is what is written in the fluff!
Actually it was never written, just spoken as the excuse by Jervis Johnson who wanted rid of them. it's why in the new rulebook they are back in the history section under abhumans.
ehh if there is a god up there, and he liked me we would most likely see squats (and probibly imperial beastmen) in the next guard codex years from now.. and if demiurg came into the picture... they would be in the tau book... and be the only tau thing I like (other then kroot)

Maybie where you are, but in America I can call that bike a bike! Heck if I actually wanted to call it by her real name I would have had a conversation first
Well I need to appoligze (well I dont need to, but I think I should) this is the update I promised a week ago, and the reason its so late is because I've been going through some stuff over the past week (thats why i've been sooo off topic on dakka, it was an attempt to cheer me up ) anyway here it is... squats wip (note the rifleman lost his rifle tip, no idea how that happend, but I'll have to fix it) C&C welcome
you are constantly getting better.... specially with faces...
the one guy wielding the gun in both hands looks a bit weird due to his left arm...
and i am not that sold on the red/orange... tho i think you aimed for a bit of an overall look with these then? but that is just a color preferrence of mine... so ignore it^^
thanks vik, now to answer yea that guys left hand is reeeally messed up I am aware, Its just someone broke my dremel so I couldnt dremel the hand away ;( and I understand your hate against orange, orange is my least favorite color in the world! But my vision of squats isnt as a military, since they are (now) a racial minority I see them doing the dangerous jobs others dont want to (extreme mining, drilling, that kind of typical dwarf stuff) and since they are in dark caverns to do those jobs, the orange pops out so that you can see your fellow workers (just as they do in the real world)
dsteingass wrote: LOL..Look though..GW doesn't even pay him enough to get a haircut, it's why he has that bald/long haired thing going on
It's the curse of the squats he is doomed to loose all his battles and his mind for his crimes against squats and his crimes against humanity!
@ childe don't worry there's room for you too
Heres some WIP's of the unit so far, only the skin is done, the rest are mostly basecoated and washed... c&c welcome....
I did however made a new (to me at least) way of skin that I like best, which is Bugmans Glow, Reikland Fleshshade, Bugmans Glow, 50:50 Bugmans Glow to Cadian Fleshtone, Cadian Fleshtone.... experimenting more with it though
Also I must add, my favorite one (darth maul pattern tattoo face) didnt take a great picture... will definalty retake that one...
that tatooed guy... the darth maul man^^ looks really sick! way to go mate...!!! (that was meant in a good way!)
tho i have to say seeing the last series of pics... i think your paints could have been a bit thinner... specially on the heavy guy... which is a really neat conversion by the way... something every guard player should have seen! really screams harker to me!
the first guys head... the one with the empire wizard head... wow... cool idea! and i think your butcher should get some bloodstains on his apron!... otherwise...where would be the brutality with him
thanks for all the comments vik! it means alot! Which paints did you think where too thick I was using a wet pallet this time? And dont you worry blood stains will appear, like i said (did I?) only the skin is really done... the rest is only washed and basecoated
i think the green and some metal paints werent that thin.... see shoulderpad of the flagalant headed chainsword wielder...
and on your "harker" heavy guy the green is a bit bumpy too... also... regarding that mini? what have you done to get this conversion? at forst i thought it was a chopping job... but now that i had a second view... i think it is GS carpace on the cultist body with a headswap? am i right?
that conversion my friend really makes me think hard about getting the cultists now...darn!^^
i had them today in my hand by the way... was at the GW shop... the problem i still see with them is that because of the one pose minis... you need to glue them before chopping them then apart for conversions going beyond GS or headswaps...

lol dave, the reason I have to dump her isnt because of the miniatures at all, its because

Laughing stock how? unillateral wars? Crippling expansion of debt from a fraudulent system? elimination of basic civil liberties? oh wait that was the last prez my bad.
Well, when RW sees his first year's paychecks once he's on the job, and he sees his tax rate at 25% so that rich people are only paying 12-18% his tune will change, quickly Hopefully, we'll get that fixed for him soon though, and it won't be a problem for much longer.
Some of my family is really in that huge upper bracket, well actually all of it, but me. Fun fact is my grand parents are for mittens, and my parents and I are for obama. Seeing civil liberties, and public services turn upside down on their heads just wasnt in my book. Un-equaling women also wasnt in my book. I dont care what religion you are, if you think you can own/control a women you're wrong and need a good krumpin in da face, possibly to death.
And if you wanna argue that the government is still in a capital state then i will argue that you are wrong. Nothing quite like my government regulated food, government regulated cleaning products, government regulated poison and disease control, government regulated safety standards of structures and cars, government regulated working rights, government regulated trade rights, and lastly, government regulated medical care. Yes we are definitely a capitalistic country where money can be made for sure! We are definitely not social in any manner, the government doesn't control squat,
Perhaps i am just a crazy mek boy, thinking all dem warboss is leaden da country, and make da call.
Rogue Wolves wrote: Another 4 years of being the laughing stock of the world, shame I have to turn 18 in this... Time to bathe in the hopes of a better America ( I still love you dave )
People that cry "Socialist!!" Never seem to bring up Fire and Police departments, which are inherently socialist in nature. However, the wealthy use more of that government service for protecting their (more) private property than the rest of us do, so they never get brought up in those scare conversations for that reason. The problem is, that convenient omission invalidates the entire argument. Social Security was expensive post-war too, but I don't know any elderly people today who could survive without it. There is just a lot of fundamental misleading going on with this argument. People throw around labels like Communist, Socialist, etc. because as a nation, these "words" invoke fear and dread from Americans who grew up during the Cold War. It's just playing on people's fears of change or the unknown, a tactic that is really pathetic if you ask me.
We are often told as Americans that Democracy bankrupted Communism when the Berlin Wall fell, but we can all see that isn't really true, since nations like China and VietNam, are still Communist, but have adopted Capitalism as well, (they have both now). It's just simply a matter of the Economy globalizing and our thinking still rooted in the past.
It's really not a bad thing, it's much more motivating for me to work my ass off to buy more UK-made miniatures. Do you think I am doing that for Queen and Country? LOL
cormadepanda wrote: Un-equaling women also wasnt in my book. I dont care what religion you are, if you think you can own/control a women you're wrong and need a good krumpin in da face, possibly to death.

I usually abstain from the political rumblings, but I felt the need to chime in here: as an American living overseas, I must inform you that the world (and by that I mean the part of the world that I'm in contact with, which is Denmark and a few other bits of northern Europe) loves Obama. True story. No laughing stock. Most people want to know why America hasn't figured out things like social healthcare already.
Also, I don't think that getting a golden boy of old American money in the Oval Office is going to make a better America.
Yep, because instead of seeing his trip to the Middle-East as an apology tour, you guys all saw it as him saying "Hey, I'm not going to shoot first and ask questions later like my predecessor, let's talk peace fellas"
I'm glad I can represent northern Europe fairly, Vik

The Gnome guy, and the Chainsword butcher guy, and the shovel-wielding dude are my favorites. I knew I should have converted that guy up to have a butcher smock. Such a classic image... and shovel-wielding, that goes without saying.
Thanks you guys, ^ I full heartedly recommend anyone who has a nack for conversions to get these, so fun and tons of potential, plus I got all the cultists from the starter set for only $5
Thanks rawson, I got all the chaos for 30 sold hellbrute for 5 and chosen for 20, now the RW brand cost head is courtesy of the empire, swordsmen I think, but I'll find out exactly ( the only reason I have empire is bits for my guard)

Quick little iPhone update, here is at least the mustached Ork, my character for an ork rp my gaming group is running, and here are some more cultists I've been working on...
Thanks Dave! I cant really get away from calling him VanHelsing, but thats ok... which reminds me, im getting ahold of that gamesday 2007 ork with the crossed arms.. thinking of making him some underhive maffia boss using an ogre head of somesort
Kudos, for the huge update and inventive conversions!
The guardsman with the flare looks like it's your best paintjob to date! I'd love to see better pics of it.
If you don't mind a word of advice though, on your other models, like the one with the bloodstained apron, the paint seems rather crude and thick. Seems like you're using the right techniques, but need to thin/dilute your paint much more.
Like my dad always says "Always go for several thin layers, rather than a thick one.".
As much as I myself hate this sentence when I get impatient it's an absolute truth.
Thanks guys, and baiyuan you saying my conversions are inventive means a hellova lot! I'll try to get some better pics of these guys when I base em, also your completely right, the paInt on those cultists was too thick and hastily put on, go ought some medium ( how I did the flair ) and I mean to kill this bad old habit
I think he's talking about the first guy after Ork-stache - the guy with the rifle/shotty thing. I think it's a fantasy Empire head - but could well be from another company.

it is a whole other world... much like the world of trains...
The other issue is that it would take a bigger balloon to keep the thing in the air... I'd say that is number one issue. Second is some kind of wheels or landing gear since the hull is flat.
The balloon looked a bit odd in the picture yes, should I go one giant balloon or multiple smaller balloons? And landing gear, good idea I defiantly want this thing to be able to land at some point

I'd say it depends on the solution for modelling them. If it were me I might think about something that's actually inflatable... that way it wouldn't take up space. Otherwise, you could probably use some kind of large soda bottle thing? One big balloon is more iconic I think, separate ones might cause it to look more haphazard.
I think it needs to be at least the size of the ship if not a little longer, soda bottle would work but why not paper mache it, that way the ballon section will way next to nothing.
You could ask Vik for some help and design tips ………. o wait he never finished his did he
Mate, flying ships are awesome, so do it! I've been thinking about that for veeery long myself
My suggestion is that for a ship with a back side high raised above the deck the balloon is not the best option, as in reality the balloon should be many times bigger then what's attached to it, so in fantasy it should be at least longer than the deck to look fitting. And thus you might raise it higher above the deck making the whole model look vertically stretched and kinda clumsy...
Try considering wings, propellers or a mix. You can even try to place several smaller balloons on the sides or inbuild them like on the air pirate ship from the Tail Spin animation...
Storag is right a balanced look would be better, A large ballon above with either wings with some kind of propeller mechanism or a small inflatable section around either sides, or a collection os small balloons netted to the sides.
Thanks all, Neil that stardust shIp was the original idea, but after seeing these other designs storag and Neil showed me I think I'll do some revisions

in my opinion... getting into steampunk can be done just with your own imagination... of coourse it is always good to get some cool impressions from other meddlers in that theme... but you also can achieve cool things by sticking to your own ideas... it is a very forgiving theme with rather broad and not heavily guarded boarders

I believe that if there were such a thing as progress wolves the sentence would have been /are/ there any progress wolves... although in saying that he did forget to place the comma after progress. we'll call this one a draw shall we?

Guys guys guys guys, you have no idea how sorry I am for acting all weird and hermity lately, currently im working on taking a ton of pictures using Iphone (camera is dead) then making them all better, plus making a table of contents thanks for liking those models PDH, I have a feeling you may like my next update
New thread. Easier for you to delineate what you are doing. My threads are exactly what they are (Death Guard, Cultists, and Terrain) and it draws prospective reader / followers a lot easier. Dave (and others) have their own unique appeal and are a great gathering place (kind of like a virtual speakeasy where everyone gathers) but there's too much lost for new readers (or people like me that are trying to catch up after my time away). If you have a thread w/ 10 pages it's a lot easier for the reader than having a 400 page thread w/ 10 pages of (insert project here) buried in the middle.
