Well hello there and welcome to my little thread... well it used to be little, now its filled with a whole matter of projects and one offs! To help ease the pain of diving blindly into my thread I decided to bulletpoint some of the better projects in a table of contents, I'm currently working on making a page by page table of contents but untill then this will do. Well here i finaly do it! Now as of right now forgive me for bad pictures and lighting since i have just moved across country and dont have a proper camera spot yet. Now unfortinatly to some I am not going to start with Fantasy and Mordheim before my 40k army BECAUSE that army is going to be my perfect dream army, I am writing fluff and drawing designs for it beacause I want it to be ALOT of sculpts and scratch builts. So now here we begin... and just saying for those who are coming before I am finish uploading pics, I am doing them 5 at a time because I have alot.

these are the first thing I have painted in nearly 1 year, I needed it to get my legs back, so that explains why it is SOO messy and poorly painted.

Now normaly I hate showing old models because I dont like being compared to what I used to paint like, but anyway here is my first models I ever painted, (its not the whole army only some painted ones) only 12 more after this

thanks guys! im glad you like my dread, it was my first conversion a couple years ago, and i plan to remake it for my newest IG army using all the new tecniques i've learned. So today im heading down to GW to do some GS work on the milita and start painting them. I'll take some picture while im there

also i forgot to mention for any of those who where wondering if a very fine macropen could be used for pupils of eyes, i had some tests and i belive it is possible but i will try it on these milita and show 'em off to you

Ok guys just came back from an 8 hour stay at GW and it took about 4-5 hours but i painted all 9 of the fantasy guys, i just need to make a clay purity seal for their store battle standard then i will take some pics and post em up

@ Vik it was a ven dread with sentinal/heavy weapon/gs once i re-do it i'll do a full on tutorial.

And guys im sorry to lead you on but i WILL post pics tonight, i added some highlights to the milita and completed my general

Heres the "finished" milita, i say that in " " because i need to wash that red, its too bright

So now I am working on writing up a Reikland Mordheim warband, on Wed. im heading back to GW to work on some boards and to hopefully get some practice games. I'll bring my camera if I remember to

talk about some badd ass attitude... that general has plenty...his face is really cool...tho i think a wash on the skin would do him even more greatness^^

the highlights and the cloak as a whole looks great! also the metalics on him you really did well!

i am not too sold on some of your militia´s metal work as i think it looks too flat... and here too i think some washes on the skin would do them much help... also some eyes are not in the same direction... giving together with the pale skin the idea of a somehwat zombie like apearance^^ don´t get angry for my harsh criticism... i think your red by the way looks really nice... very mutishaded and i think this gives the buncha nice feel! also the leather looks really cool... you can almost hear the pants and vests creak^^

something to add for your pics in the future... for me minis look at their best when presented standing upright... yours are lying on their back and maybe some of my issues are from that ...and if you have the time and the light... make some daylight pics... they will generally greatly improve the pics!

by the way... very productive outcome of yours!

nice work rogue , The muted greys with orangy red accents look very good. Reminds me of John blanche style of painting too, which is a good thing.

I likes 'em. Look kinda liek they belong in a vampire count's army to me. Will echo the suggestion of washes too. Keep it up. Quite like the nutty dreadnought/walker conversion thingy too

good to hear about you redoing those eyes... the eyes of a model are a big factor in my opinion to make it a good one or not... that´s why i leave them out and only do washes... i am atm not really up for the eyes to be good looking...

People crit my stuff on my threads, I think about each and every one, a lot. Then I argue, I listen, and Then I make a decision. Honestly, there are a lot of "attaboy's" on my thread, and I love them, but I spend a lot more time getting "better" by thinking about the crits.

oh and vik to your comments washes on the skin will commence and then i will decide if i want to attempt eyes, im glad you like the gen's metals but with milita i might only do a little bit to it because as it does look flat i dont want it to be nice like the gen's i want it to be darker and almost older

a good methode for me to make really scratchy looking metal was always to undercoat in black and then only slightly drybrush the metal on...thus you get lots of uneven looking surfaces... tiny scratches and dents... if you look at my metal it is always a black undercoat and then a mithril silver or boltgun metal over that with thick paint but drybrushed vigorously over the black...i even got a strained wrist for brushing so fast over some parts...^^ it really is all in the fluid motion of the hand...

your commander looks verrrry promising... the sketch was simply wonderful! i hope we will see such things more often now! mabye take your time and do yourself a nice avatar sketch...that would be nice!

as for the mini... some minor points i have to..er..point out...
the cape for my taste is a bit too thick atm... this might be solved once paint hits the mini as a good paintjob can mend the thicker cape... please do us all a favor to drill out the barrels of these very cool looking pistols! they are truly epic...


and from what you have shown for now of this brick character... wow i am expecting now a reall hulking fighter... a double handed war axe with that hammer as a base is a very cool idea...i bet he will have quite the swinging and when he connects with a target they will certainly know what hit them^^

thanks guys @ vik i've always planned to sketch up an avatar, I'll work on that. And I agree on the cape, i suck at capes so i might either try to find some sort of thin banner to go there or hope that paint will solve it
@ neil, any comments you say honor this thread! thank you sir! and to answer some questions the sketch came 60% when i started mini so i added things like the pistols and such.
@ my thread, i hope to make Brick nice and big and awsome because his name is coming from my character from Borderlands (; , you'll see alot of names like that theres going to be at least 2 more refrences in this warband but we'll get to that when it happens

some filler to smooth the connection and you are set... the curved blade and the hammer together i think are a wicked combination...

for the body i would then suggest an ogre body for a base to work on further..^^ or possibly an ork one... to have the hulking muscles...

ork would work best because he's going to be wearing armor, thanks for the idea vik wasnt thinking that!

the only trap you might fall in tho are the orkish hands, but if you file off the nails on the fingers or give the hands padded gloves you are all set...

yea should work well, plus ive always wanted to work on an ork, which i never have

Gorkamorka plastic ork hands are the same size as the original plastic Catachan hands...did you guys know that?

wow thats dumb as poop, but thats why i only use arms from catachan command box, they are the least bubblely

You could even do a little ork work a la "Storag". He's been putting together some sweet ork conversions (well, they are still orks when he's done, but I think his methods could help with Brick )

rawson, if you seen any of my comments on storags thread, i will never touch an ork that i dont plan to make into a non bigbutte,d poor postured idiot. so basicly if you ever see me with an ork, you can always assume that is whats going to happen

at dstein... have a coupla orky halftrack bikes... dunno anymore what they are called... and i planned to convert the drivers with a bit of GS work and a headswap...mind you those orky heads would even under a good light work as humans...a human paintjob and you could hardly tell...they are the punniest orks out there... the legs of them have even a catachan feel to them...

A little extreme just to get a head, but what about Harlequins? They come in Finecast now, so getting the head shouldn't be hard. Maybe you can find a single on eBay or something...

that was my first thought too....also there are minis out there for that purpose...some venice masked minis...can´t remember what company they were from...

i'll have to look, i was just thinking of shaving the masked wizard head and sculpting some details on it, but ....

could you show that bit first... maybe that would work too...

First guy is final touches to Lord Penn, i added his base and a stone on his belt, he'll be painted tomorrow
Second is a very wip Runner. My idea for him is that if the group is ambushed while carrying treasure/stones, they would give it to him and he would run, while the rest of the group make sure he stays alive

i am honestly thinking your GS work needs more time... you do work too thick..what do you use for sculting tools? i use dentist tools...also i have baught me a nailremovingthingy witha slicone tip...havent used it yet but the idea is it is flexible and can push the GS better... maybe a change of tools could help you...is that azombie head on the runner... nice choice there...with the mask it is a cool idea...and who does not love a guy with two pistols^^

yea the gs sucks, which is why i need to get that stuff off! I plan on buying minicolor shapers to help me with that, and yes it is the dieing head from zombies, i love the facial features on it and if i dont show the dead mouth i think it should lookg good, and vik i did post a picture of the avatar its right above your post!

don´t get too down by my GS comment...i have very long tried to avoid that stuff completly...i am currently learning its ways...and i mean ways...

what i have come to undewrstand is the curing time... let it sit for a while after aplying it to the mini... then using some silicone means of tool push or tear it the way you want... lubbed enough it will do as you really want to...

shortly i want to try this fella here for GS work..
sorry for the gross pic^^ it is ugly and big^^ but these things are dead cheap compared to the penshaper stuff...and if you deem it too big a form...just cut it in shape...

dont wory vik im not down about the comment, i know im relitivley bad at gs ing which is why im practicing, and as much as i want a nice pink shaper, i think the 20$ for more than a few of 'em should be good enough for me

ok... i tend to forget that others might be not so broke as i am^^ so good tools is always a good start... and for those who are not afraid to practise there is the road to success...at first i even didn´t get the mixing right...so now that i have a good methide for that the sculpting process gets better too...

hmmm maybie since im no good at gs i can make gs molds of cloaks that way i can pop em in and push those around as i please

for cloaks... have you considered using PVA soaked tissue or even cloth? definatly would help you to make a thin start...after that it would even be doable to GS a surface over the dryied cloak...

and yeah... the plastic crack has a tendency to creep upon you... it is too easy to dream up a new army... although i am no man for dwarves... but something like bretonian army or even a skaven one wold be a nice thing...well my dreams soar free...

That is actually from the Avatars of War Dwarf Bezerkers box set. WOnderful, multi-part plastic miniatures IMHO Better than the GW minis, but they mix well.
ANd LOL, yes those other diseases come right along with it!

Yep, nipples-a-plenty! You can see nipples on the top right cheat in the pic. The bare chests of muscle seem to remind me of an old-time boxer, so it fits the Dwarf look IMO. The Bare chests and arms are the perfect canvas for painting tattoo work too. It's just too bad that the beards cover them up.

now...who ever would want clean shaven dwarfs?

ahh, btw guys i'll post my warband so far online, i played 3 games today, 2 being 1v1 i lost both but gained alot of xp anyway, the third was 1v1v1v1 and it was like 2 1v1's and i beat my side although ended up running away, gained some for that. Overall BEST GAMING I EVER HAD, Mordheim is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than 40k or fantasy imo, also i changed V, now he has 2 swords, and The Runner did his job in the 4 way game by running in the middle, getting the stones, and running away, so if you cannot tell by poor grammer, i am exited so im going to build

sounds cool...i like mordheim and necromunda for the ongoing campaingn setting... making great individual charcters and seeing them grow...i think this is the best thing! being an old rpg boy...^^

For working with green stuff try using some size 0 clay shapers. I got a set for about $15 dollars, Also. don't be afraid to use a bit of water. It keeps the GS from sticking to the shaping tool.

brick is somehwat smaller as i have pictured him myself...BUT he looks splendid dramatic and full of dynamcis... how will you base that character? will he land after a jump, or is he running like ad charging in to a foe?...either way... cool!

with V i am still keeping my lid shut as for me a charcter stands and falls with the choice of heads...so i am still waiting^^

In case anyone was wondering why there are some random green and yellows in here, that is to connect them to Reikland, which is where they hail from, although since they are their own mercs they usually wear their own thing

Now guys, there is something that I would like to ask you that and I hope you dont mind. As you can tell by my painting, im not THAT good, im not the worst, but not to a level I am happy at. here is just an example of her maaaaaaaannnyyy vids she constantly puts out...she is quite good... i only saw some of here tuts on vid but i think she breaks up the painting to follow by quite well...

Kolinsky Sable are the BEST EVAR! I have a W&N Series 7 10/0 that is the best thing I have ever bought, next to my brass clamps

now this is getting to be quite a long comment of mine...

first:
the fluff sounds even so roughly sketched quite interresting and if you base models on that fluff i expect them to be simply awsome... mercs do only cool anyway^^

as for the kollinsky brushes... i only ever heard that they are top notch... in the fullness of time i think i will get some too...but... have you seen the pricetag for the 10 size brush? insane... if you hunted down a marten and skined it yourself you could make some major bucks^^

also at dave... do you recon that the 10/0 size brush is enough for details? i am always between chairs when it comes to either capacity of paint in the bristles and the size of the point... what is for you the most important virtue of a brush?

then...
the sketch is looking really good rogue... flipping would have been nice... as my neck is not that sporty anymore^^...the sketch is really quite close to the mini you showed...tho i think your posing looks even better and more dynamic... except the hanging arm on the left side of the pic... that looks like it could need a bit of a tweek...

your minis look cool, still some headless mates there^^ the commander and the "crowe" charcter looking in my opinion the best in that bunch...which has to be taken with a grain of doubt, as i have to really tell you youmake quite gakky pics^^ *cringes* no seriously... you should see if your cam has a timer option... and maybe you could steady the cam on a book or possibly a tripod? and better lighting situation is called for too... the warm light of that bulb is killing most of the color effects you probably spent ages on... and... i think you will get better and dynamic looking pics of your minis when you make shots with the minis standing upright instead of laying them down... i know many naggings of me here, but i only do it for...my best^^ as i wanna see your stuff as it deserves it^^ ...at it´s best

and again to your fluff... heck yeah... pllease do make up some more... that was quite a teaser... now you have to serve^^

A brush is only as good as it's point. The point is what paints, the rest of the brush only holds paint as a resivior. Kolinsky sable is so expensive because of what it comes from, (unless you are drybrushing, but you'd be a fool to drybrush with your Kolinsky Sable brush) I don't remember exactly, but it is tail hair from some rare Yak or something in Siberia, chosen for it's good point-keeping properties. i paid $20 for my 10/0 quite a few years ago. I take extra special care of it (keeping it clean) and it has held it's point longer than any other brush I have ever had.

thanks man, i love the skelly so far, but i still have not been able to succed at the wings, i think they suck ): but then again i am a perfectionist and since im not that great of a painter there are very few of my models that i am proud of (the IG dread is one that i am proud of) not many else though

You just need to wash them with a black wash, then a light dry brush of light grey!

thats what i ended up doing!

More ink, the really light dry brush. If you dry brush heavy the illusion of depth is lost. Keep the recesses darker

madmartykmf has sure a point there... if cooling doens´t work...well dimming the lights is a good start... and an eyepatch even for me was a no go when i played pirate as a kid... that really strained both of my eyes...

Basicly i got hit on side of eye and thats all bleh, but if it hit me a little close to the center i would go blind, NO BLIND FOR ME!!! Although i do have to go to a specialist on this one eye part i forget whats its called

fun day at the gw yesterday, played a intro game of blood bowl and it was really fun! going to need to start a team when i get the extra $$. traded a squad of unused guardsmen for a baggie of stuff and got a few metals and a dog which i liked, plus a nice metal chaos knight on a chaos bike which i tricked out a bit last night. started work on the snow base which will now be for the bike instead of the warrior... and i found an old chimera conversion in the garrage so might do something with that...

looks like you had a fun day fella , that bag of goddies is tempting, like seeing those old school dark angels , and the snow basing looks pretty cool, i suggest giving it a light white spray after it dries for that cold frosty look. how did you make the snow ?

@neil i will take your sprey suggestion as this is my first time attempting snow base, for it i built it up with cardboard, filled in the back side and holes with liquid gs, but some plaster slates (from previous casts of a hirstarts mold i own), sprinkled some gravely stuff, painted in the differing gw blue/greys, then sprinkled it with a dead grass color from woodland scenics, added a few bushes, and the snow was baking soda mixed with pva and a tad of water, probibly shouldnt have added so much baking soda though
@vik no i dont plan to use him as i have already promised someone who was going to use it in the league that i wouldnt, plus i was going to make him into a general for my empire since i wont be using the one i already made, wanted to try to cut off his legs and put him on a horse as i have seen done

added more to the rider- a new arm, a holsterd pistol, and a helm that is resting on a platform. changed the snow on the base a bit but didnt take a pic of it...

after working on this guy, i think im going to theme my empire army to be a skyrim like northern viking feeling, plus i can do some nice scenic bases!

should be fine, there was some stuff on the far right of my eye (too far for me to see) that he wants checked by a specialist, although he said he belives it was just brused, no harm done to it so that is good news

by the way as you said specialist... did that whole happening cost you much? or would have the guy that bruised you with the puck should pay for that... from what i have heard your health system is pretty hard to cope with...

the texture of the horns could be done either quite easily by GS or you could look into chaos stuff from WHFB...mom...

sorry for no updates, have been painting/playing at gw with no time to post.. but here is the basic plan for skyrim guys head...

i would add some rivets... i know but it would carry the skyrim look quite much forward then... also if possible... when you add the horns... then heat them up a bit to bend them slightly... that would be perfect then... i guess for the bodies you would be good advised to use some converted marauder bodies too...to complete the look...

dont worry vik i plan to add some extra bits to the helm.. like rivets... for body, im not sure yet but those seem like an obvious choice

probibly going for a zombie dragon.. only because the model is easier to pose in the way i want, and if your complaining cause there aint zombie dragons in skyrim.. its a warhammer bountyhunter fighting a zombie dragon!

ok... i can see the basic shape being working... but to tell you something... your mock up looks way to dwarvish compared to the pic of the man...so i would suggest you lengthen the waist ... he has to look taller than the mockup... to be more menacing...

this also might be the fact that i am mixing different sized pictures, so the scale on the legs is incorrect. although i do know you point and if it becomes like that then a waist extention is going to happen

i think we need to see it in the pastic flesh to finally say if or if not an addition is needed...

oh yes, now all i need to do is some bits buys and he should get started

they did vik, i got a decent amount of empire, a wireless dremel plus dremel heads, i got those mini paint shapers, and a couple hundred $$ to use on IG!

as for the dremel... at home i have a smaller wireless drill that i use in the same way as a dremel... it is now a bit unused but the thing can be the best friend from time to time... i even used it for heavy duty cleanup when i stripped some minis of mine... i specially baught me a brush set for the drill... that quite cleaned off the more stuborn yucky parts on the minis...
