ahem.
@waz.
YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! this . im done. im sticking to playing with toy soldiers.
in all seriousness though, this is lovely. The breeches on back of guns where orcs are loading them look great, as does the crane jerb you did there. Any plans of incorporating your leisure grots in here somewhere? Maybe some grots hidden off between some crates out of line of site of the rest of the gits. On one of your nice sun bathing chairs with an umbrella and cold one? this was really ace that ya did
this photo dose not do what i've done any justice, close up this looks fan-blooody-tastic, i will film this model when its done so you get the bigger picture, i not going to put the mech arms on this boss mod, he look ace with out them,
Wow. You took "more dakka" to the extreme mate! And the crazy dakkary goodness is still coming! I reckon a few supa rockets from the stompa kit wouldn't look out of place.

Keep dat crazy dakkary goodness coming!
yeah i want to too, but where to put them ? so it doesn't look too silly
you could try to make a thorpedo outlet at the front of the ship and put one of those rockets into it. or a launchpad which is built into the deck of the ship, so only the top of the rocket can be seen.
CommissarKhaine wrote: Looking splendid! Maybe you could convert the suparokkits into little kamikaze planes, I did it for my stompa:

Damn that thing is huge, seeing it on the shelf like that really makes it sink in. Loving it!

hi guys, here you go a quick update on some detail work, hope you like, all comments welcome.
thanks to CommissarKhaine, the money i spent at FW wasn't well spent as i feel the Smart bombs he said to make look better than the FW ones lol (git) but big thanks mate, i really like them and making them was fun, i have loads more to make now, just need to fine a place to put them all haha so thanks CommissarKhaine, your a star.
Launch pad slide thingy, i used magnets
Action shot
and folds away nicely after firing.
did some more work plank decking on the middle deck, just need a rail now and it will look good
the back of the ship, i wanted to make the 2 areas look different, so i did half as metal and the other half as wood, i will spray paint a "H" on the wood, there is still loads of wook left in this area, so its not done yet.
Really nice, they feel quite Mario to me which I really like - come to think of it wasn't there a giant ship level in Mario 3? Is love to see a boss Bowzer, on that logic! Great work all round, really inspiring. I should so go back to my squiggoth...
ok guys, change my mind on the look of my Grot Smart bomb launcher, i didnt like how it was sat, and also i wanted it to look good too when it was not in use.
and this is what it looks like when not in use

its was a pain, but they look so good and will look even better after painting, so well worth the effort.

ok guys one of the last update i'll be doing for a while as this is almost done, i have just the engines to build and stick on then that's it, just the figs after that.
some detail work done on the decks, really like how they turned out
i finished my Forgeworld Grot smart bomb launcher, so now the ship has 2
HOLLY CRAP this was a pain, 20,000 rivets lol maybe, anyway hull now done, the back looks like a WW1 ship, love it.
made some port holes and window, so when you look in them you will see a room, and i may well do a small scene of some sort going on, might even light them up some how. just need to finish off the port holes though, as they look a bit bare
You know its brilliant I just don't want your head to swell any bigger than it all ready is Although I do have one small issue the port holes at the front with open hatches, there is nothing in the holes ? FIX IT
Thanks guys for all the comments, just an update about whats going on in my modelling life, im on a brake from the big boat, was doing my head in, plus i need to put some money back into the old model fund.
so here is a Big Rig MkII that i will be putting on Ebay at the weekend (Nuff said)
i went for the same look as the first, just made so slight differences and all so a gun cupola at the top which i really love and wish i did with the first. i will paint this tonight.
hi guys, just an update on the Big Rig Mkii, like i said before i am selling this on ebay.
i have added at the start all 3 of my Trukks, just so you can see the difference and the style i went for, and also the size.
the big rig Mkii has had less time on it than all the other, just coz i made this to sell, its had about 20+ hours of work on it (prob 10 hours + to be honest) so how much would you charge per hour, this question gets me all the time. so hope you like, and i hope you get inspired.
so here is all 3, i do love my trukk's, i could make these all day long.
this is showing the cupola working and the big gun moving around
i posted this Bad photo, to show it coming apart, this was for ease of painting, the driver does come out to, but i left him in as it was a paint in my getting him in.
Only criticism I could say is I see mold lines ...though that might be something you didn't quite worry about since you plan on selling it. It dose look great regardless.

hehe the problem with mould lines is you think you got them all then just as you start to dry bruch, BOOOOOOOM there they are.

outstanding work Wazz, I stumbled across this and every single model you've made is superb, its given me loads of ideas and you added to my favourite sellers on ebay
Tee-hee! That is freaking awesome! My only niggle might be make the blood a little darker - Ork blood is supposed to be black (ish), dried blood is darker generally, and it'll contrast with the red of the bike generally. Love the burner boy helmet on the driver, too.

To be honest mate, i disagree, i sat here for hours looking at Bleeding ork lol and 9 out of 10 people paint them as i did, i looked at them coz i thought they might of had dark GREEN blood seeing as they are green skins, i know orks in films suck as LotR and that, all have black/very dark red blood, so i just did what everyone else does, coz im a sheep hahaha
Fair dos mate, fair dos I stand by my point about it being slightly darker for contrast from the red of the bike though, but hey, it's your glorious hog!

also i dont feel im a Pro painter, and im also missing things all the time, but comment like your sink in, i will do darker red for deffo from now on, as what you said makes more sence than all the photo's i looked at, so thanks

thanks mate, i just put it together with the roller and arms all magnetised, the lined it up with the Rhino and the built the brackets and magnetised that. i think the GW roller works really really well with the Rhino model when orking it up.

both options and held on with magnets
option 1

did some work on the back, this is where i will make a wood looking platform with some sort of barriers, where they will sand on and shoot from.
I started making jagged panels for my Stompa in a similar fashion, but it's many times faster with my smell and a buzzsaw I made for cutting. That rhino looks the tits Waz
How many of those Ork vehicles have you made? They are...stunning. I swear, how do you do it so well? It's just...impossibly good. Better models than anything GW does. I just scroll through the pages...it's just, so, natural! It looks exactly like what an Ork would do. How you come up with it being so perfect throughout the builds, so much attention to detail is what really brings up the models.
so good.
Edit: I know you've answered this already but how do you make the rivets - holy baloney you have to cut and stick every single one on?
Edit 2: Can you make another thread with a picture of every single thing you've made? I swear I will

as most of you know i build for the love of building, i have no idea of the rules, even tho my mate is trying to get me into them, so when i build i dont tend to build knowing that the model will get used. most of what i make i sell to fund my Airsoft hobby and to put funds back into my model making, the money i make for selling models is no where close to what i feel i should get, i barley get £5 an hour and that is inc the cost of the model and bits. its rare to find a customer out there with lost of money who is willing to pay a right price for custom work.
so no mate i can't post a photo of my army as i dont own an army, just lost of airsoft guns and gear

Although i do think yours is one of the best, its not 35%. if you look in the margin many blogs have 60k, a few have 100k+ and it all adds up to waymore than 400k. basicaly the view counter has been maxed and reset or something on the one in on the home page.

Update time........................ Junka WIP
right Guys now i have the rules for a Junka i am now making a Junka, i am trying to make it with as many options as i can, so all the stuff (weapons) can be added or removed or swopped around
please ignor the rocket turret thing i made, i'm not happy with it so i will remake today, i want a more flat / profile one
i do love the way i did the commanders shoota, i really think this turned out really well, its so simple to do aswell.
ok the Turbo boosters on the back ................ very simple to make, but hard to glue. i am going to make these so you can add or remove them, loads more work needed on them, i will try finish them today.
right..............the back decks, again with my ship i just scored fin strips of plastic card and chipped away at the ends for that wood look, i just need to add rivets to it now, turned out well.
I just love that junka wazz. It's got a wonderful look and feel to it and as a player, the fact that all the options are makes it very attractive. It's going to be fantastic when painted!
And that's why I can't throw away super glue caps. They are perfect for what you did. Imayde some grot guided missiles of some once and they looked great. Looking ace as always
(Fun facts re popularity - I've only exalted 25 threads, of which this is one, which led me to discover this thread is 3rd on the "Most exalted ever" list - congratulations and well deserved!)
KingCracker wrote: What's the really beasty big shoota? A supashoota? Those are ace.
well........ one is a normal looking shoota and the other is suppose to be a heavy looking shoota or something, may be a small cannon, i guess it will be up to the person who buys it and plays it
Love your work. Can't wait to see paint on this beauty.
the Junka is really good mate, try giving it a wash with some earth/brown ink, GW do a good one, and also with a sponge dab some brown paint on the bottom part of the vehicle, start with a dark brown and then do some lighter. this should help with your weathering, but understand im not the best of painters and there maybe a better way out there.

Making a Warhammer 40k Ork army Grot Tank Tutorial
hi guys, thought i would show you how i make grot tanks, so i hope you like, below is a photo of what we are going to make.
so then, to start off with you will need thin, med and thick plastic card, i cant tell you the sizes i use as i buy it by sight. you will also need tubes and rods, i buy the evergreeen strip styrene from eBay. i hope this helps.
first off you need a thick ish card to start with, and have a shade for your tracks in you head, ie... the outer, dont make the tank bigger than 2 and 1/2 inch, any bigger then its not really going to be a grot tank, but a tank tank lol
so cut you plastic card to shape, use a compass and metal ruler and make 4 of these.
then make some small square tiles for spacing. place inside, not to close to where the tracks will sit, but spread out so it gives it strength, i made 3 of these and made each set 3 thick, so all in it was 5 slice's of plastic card thick, if that makes scene.
once this is stuck and dry, file and make sure this is all square, i use sandpaper on a flat serface, and just gently run it up and down.
now for the tracks, this is the slowest part but the most important bit, if this looks gak then you might as well stop, you can buy some nice Resin tracks for eBay (Machinator is his user name on here)
ok i startes with cutting a rode to the size of the tracks i was making, then cut some tube and stick it in it with glue, then make the track pads, you might need to rough these up a bit for the look. (i did this or do it at the end, but its a pain in the ass at the end)
ok now to build up the tracks, make sure at the end they fit, you may need to trim more, and also make sure you start at the top and work to the bottom so if there is a mistake, its not going to be seen
in this photo you can see the shape i went for, i used a compass to do this.
you should end up with this
then i just added some detail work, 2 bars on each track pad with a rivet on each, simple and will look good.
now for the body, all i did was cut some card to the size of how wide i wanted the tank to be, then just built up the body, i used some brackets inside to give it some support.
then stick them together, make sure it sits right, ie.......no wobble
ok then, now build the main body, up to you were you take the look now, there are many ways you can do this, i went for the simplest one, dont for get to put a lid on it (no photo, i'm sure you know what i mean)
then i added some brackets and armour plates and of course rivets, again trying to keep it simple. with the armour plates i crushed them in my month with my teeth, this gives it a warn metal look, you can use a Dremel if you want.
i them made some simple fule tanks at the back, just using some tubs (bigger ones) and cap them with p/card and rivet them up.
for the turret i made 2 round bit of P/card, one for the tank top and one for the bottom of the turret, i then put magnets on then so the stick easy, or you can use a rod or some thing.
now for the turret walls, cut to size, ir the highest point, then stick, this bit can be tricky so take your time.
once stuck, stick to the turret bottom, again use some bracket to help support it, remember at the back don't go to high.
once stuck, you can draw the shape on to the side of the turret, then cut out with care, then on a flat bit of sandpaper, rub so its all flat, then add a lid..........simple
then file and add guns like this, i put the gun on a bit of P/card so it will make building up the front of the turret easyer, i'm not going into how i made these, go read my others Tuts and blog on DakkaDakka
now add some small P/card to the front and Rivet up just like i did. then make a square bit of P/card and rough up the edges and stick, this is the base of the hatch.
ok, now for some side detail, these are wheel access hatches (in my head) it helps make the side look better, feel free to do what ever you want.
then make the hatch, easy to do, just copy me.
and this is the exhaust, i bent the pipe with a lighter and then cut to side, dont cut then try and bend, it wont work. then stick.
and here you have it, one grot tank, you can make this with the hatch open with a grot hanging out and with any other weapons too, hope you like.

quick update on another grot tank, this one i made to look like it was a Heavy (Grot) Tank. with this one i made the tracks a wee bit wider and the Turret like it was up armoured, but i only gave it a big shoota lol work that out
He is currently working on a Super Grot Tank.
I had the pdf for the 'experimental' Forgeworld rules which i sent him. But i believe that there is now an official version in one of the newer Imperial Armour Apocalypse books.
I guess that as its a model you buy from Forgeworld as a kit, that the visual weapon loadout is exactly the same? How can it be any different?
I doubt he is bothered at all by any changes that effect gaming. Just any details to how it will look.

yeah thanks Paul mate, been working hard on my Super Grot Tank, on long weekend now so wont get finished till next week, this could be my last fast build model, from now on my models will take the same time to build as the rest of you, and that's if i continue them.

No problem mate I like the rest of the model, I just think you could do something better yourself with your skill
Nice job. to bad I cant bid on it.... Got to save for the mariage. The girlfriend/wife to be would not be ammused....
Probably have to build myself a third one like this one...
You are a legend in your own time sir, I whole heartedly hope you find a way to keep at it. Fantastic tank. Just amazing. You have been an inspiration.
Absolutely beautiful grot tank there waz, hope you can still keep it up somehow! Every page in this thread is fantastic and great, super inspirational.
Cheers wazz! That is nothing short of magnificent! Beautiful piece to "go out on" if indeed your new job prevents you from modeling the way you'd like.
well after spending all day reading through this thread ... i do think i am on information overload!
Now to figure out what i want to try to make first ... I only casually play 40k ... and to me looks come way before what is actually part of the game
I do beleive the first thing on my plate is going to be doing something with all these defkoptas i have sitting around my worktable .. to bad 3 of them are glued together. i have always wanted to make them into bikes or some small 4-wheelers (not quite buggy sized) ...
Now to check and see what sort of supply my LGS has on styrene before i order online.
Wazz'er mate i hope this is not your 'last' model? why doe's it have be? maybe fit a few hours in after work? and then there's weekends, you may knock out less! lol but it will still BE quality.
rhino-40-000 wrote: how much did it cost to build ????
and its awsome , you could become a mek boy
£30 to £40 on bits and bobs (prob loads less) inc paint and 50+ hours at £5 per hour = £290

Awesome work my friend If this truely is your last model then id like to say a thank you, although im sure my wallet would say otherwise It was through stumbling upon your thread here that made me start modelling again i'd been toying with the idea and wanted to perhaps start a custom army (having put down WH about 10 years ago), seeing your orks tipped that decision and now i play orks....
Just wanted to let you know, this was the first thread i ever saw on dakka. i was looking for tips on how to scratch build orky stuff and convert orky figs...started with vehicles first.
simply amazing stuff you have. 9 times out of ten, i would say "well, that's just awesome, why bother making my own?" but i think this time, your work has inspired me to try harder.
hi guys, thanks for all the nice comments, I've been working hard, but not on my models once i get settled in, i may try doing some, but dont count on it.
I created an account just to tell you this - man you're awesome. wow.. just wow. I've been following your blog for some time now, but this time you just nailed it

What! Wait! does this mean a possible return from retirement from Wazz... and can we expect this big bad boat to be getting some lovin???
Hows the new job? ya setteling in and such? hope all is well fer ya bud.
On another note... ya got a bit more time before I finish my battlefortress, just got the finishing weathering details left on it. I might just win this race ...though I am on a break from it right now. But it should be finished in the near future.

WOW...............Epic build, make sure you dirty it up hahaha i sure you have it covered
I stumbled across your big rigs on youtube and then found your thread on here. Also turns out that I bought all your Stompa spares (from building your ship) and found some Grot tanks in there too!
Anyway, Your builds are pretty epic and inspiring mate and thanks for the heads up on the p.card in your sig.

So after my epic fail with asking where you get your plastic card from...which was in plan site. I have found a locate Hobby store in the great white north with lots of plastic cards, rods etc... I have decided to make a Grot Self-Propelled Gun, similar to the WW2 German tanks. Its going to be bigger then you Grot Tanks...which I have built thanks to your great tutorial. Just wanted to say thanks for the inspirations and tutorials on how to create great looking Ork Stuff.

That took the price. And you are not even finished yet You are simply amazing.
Ok read through the whole blog finally and I must say, wow! Very well done! What tools do you use for all the builds? I know some of the obvious ones like hobby knife, pin vise, and glue. But what other tools do you have in your arsenal?

trust me my old friend, these took about 2 weeks to make, the wife thinks im hidding out from some thing back here
Your wife and mine could probably have a good talk about being "40k widows".
Great video. One of these days I'm really going to try to build something because of your inspiration. I'm just so bad at it. The detailing I can do, but building the basic structure on which to base everything else is where it all falls apart for me.
It took me about 3hours to go through the entire thread from page one to 60 and now I am experiencing the side effects!!
1) I wanna build an ork army! Screw grey knights, eldar, chaos and space wolfs! ORKS DA BEST!
2)I want to go out there and buy a ton of plasticard although I will not know what to do with it. Also I must get some power tools and run them all together!
3)My right hand hurts like hell from all the scrolling. I was going to keep painting Draigo but now I want to paint some ORKS!!
4)I wanna order some bikes from you just to have the joy of painting them. And paint them RED! Cause if it's RED it goes FASTA!
5)I really want to send you staff from my bit box as a gesture of saying thank you for this AWESOME thread!
6) Where are my UPDATES!! The 60 pages are gone! Do something!
You are the man and I really hope your life and job allows you to keep doing what you are doing. You are an inspiration to all of us .
