This more'n'more smells like your about to cast your own version if an Armageddon table... One side imperal building that form a city, the other side all orky...
Aquilla looks awesome, there was even no doubt about it when seen upside down and only the mold... you even riveted it...what could be better?
Automatically Appended Next Post: looking at the pieces again on the bigger screen i think on each piece you aim to stick the aquilla or the skull on, you need something with more detail than a mere blank plasticcard wall section... it would be then an asymmetric style... so you need a section with stones or steel plates that leave enough free room for the stuck on detail...if i made myself clear here...
Right, but admech isn't typically associated with fangs, whereas Blood Angels and Space Wolves are. Nobody bats an eye when a Vampire or Werewolf in power armor shows up with fangs on all their icons, but if the mechanic and gas station attendant do there's typically a lot of burning at the stake happening. At least in 40k.
We so easily use the term awesome...for something like this it was meant to be used...I especially like the smaller appendix...that gives a way more covincing realistic look to the piece as only a mere detailed brick. Will there be an equivalent for orky butresses? Very cool idea to have the whole thing be swappable like this, very unique idea!
Things have slowed down again, back to work, but I have continued....
Imperial side details being added....
Oh and a bit on the Orky side....
As always thanks for looking in.
@ All thank you so much for your comments, they really matter.
@ Vik, Not sure PVA really smells and the plastic cement can be smelt from here on a bad day, strangly we also get a wiff of peaches from Vik sometimes??!!
Thanks for the comments
@ Shas Thank you very much.
@ Gits Glad you like it!
@ WW Thank you. I am pleased how it turned aswell.
@ Vik Will do shortly!
@ Solar_lion Thank you. I wont be the one painting it but i do look forward to seeing it painted too.
and he delivers!
so...basically you have a box, that trumps a second time as the storage item...and the metal thingies hold the detailed walls with the magnets...and according to theme the walls can be changed...
does the corner appendix fit inside the box too?...
one further question...is the box filled to the brim with the walls and the (perhaps) corner addition... or can it take the supposed to be presented models of a certain troop amount too?
also... how strong is the material (i still haven't figured out from what material the upper lid is made...) when considering transport?
Really looking awesome!! My FAV little details are those "melted" banners! They are just glorious! You must let me know how you achieve that! I have just the thing I would love to try one on!
@ Vik, Thanks bud. Yes it's a box and all the bits fit inside quite snuggly to hopefully avoid damage in transit.
By the time its all in there I am afraid there isn't much room for anything else.
The material I "aquired" from some gentlemen fitting signs in work. Its slightly softer than pure styrene, but quite durable. It cuts easy enough with a utility knife. I had 2 sheets, one 5mm thick and one 10mm thick. Still have a bunch left. I trialed a piece to see if it will take primer, and no issues. It has a "skin" on either side.
@ Gits, Really glad you like it bud. Should finish it up this week end and have it on its way.
@ DrH, Thank you sir. Actually had to think on this one. It hurt.
@ Biff, Thanks bud, Banners are easy, blow torch and thin plasticard.
@ Solar, Well it's for Gitsplitta for a display board he's making. Will go with the Waagh!! tower I am making him. Of course thats if he still wants it! I can't paint for toffee's so he can paint it himself.
Thanks for looking in, hope to get the board finished up this weekend. Then I am not sure. I owe Nerdy some more vehicles and I have too many ideas floating in my head for the LoER comp it is going to be hard to resist. But due to life still being crap, I probably wont get any of that done. Thinking of setting up a little painting station and getting some of the (literally) thousands of models I have that need some love, painted.
Oh...wicked! (That's currently my favourite word in such cases...)
I think I had that material in my hands sometimes...it is not something I would declare as cheap in either price nor usage...and you used it most excellently!
Can't paint for toffee????I beg to differ, you've become am amazing painter...you seldom see someone with such a steep learningcurve...
I've got a load of stuff I'm volunteering to the Orkish horde, 2 or 3 Burna Boyz (wish we could still take them as special weapons in regular Mobs!) a couple of 'Ard Boyz and a Nob or 2. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's stuff and especially to seeing you get back on with your own Waaagh! Camkierhi!
^did buy lego strictly for my own purposes too...sometimes it is too good to be true what that company has made^^...there was once atime when my kids wanted to gve me stuff to work with freely.... now there misers again^^ so i refrain from using theirs^^
and... hmmm.... i have t say the swinging chainsword arm i like...the zap gun addition and the boiler thingy i actually don´t like... there a bit OOT...there needs to be something that looks more convincing for me... but the claw arm then again looks the business...hmmm....
well... feel a bit like the devils advocate...but even if it is a dirty job ... someone´s got to do it
Your paintstyle always lends what might needed fixingi like him...he has a certain old school style with him...that shoulder mounted gun is a scratch build, right? Cool work!
You might be moving slow but the quality is still over the top. Your building parts are coming along great as I've seen over in Viks blog and the orcs are still some of the best out there
Yeah, he deserves a 40mm base, and made with some nice detail flocking. He is a Big Mek, and deserves a bigger base. If you have any 40mm bases sitting around that is.
His base is not my choice. He is for the Dakka Dakka Clan project so will be sent away to kb_lock in Oz to assemble the horde, great little project, and this is my donation.
I can't tell by the photo, but the top horn on his left side looks like it's either the bone color darkening around where it meets the helmet, or did the metal from the helmet slip over onto the horn?
@ Theo, it's a band of brown, but I completely messed up the horns, should have painted the head seperate, normally do, but for some strange reason got stupid and trying to pain t those horns in situ just dont work.
Well on to the next ......I promised Nerdy a skorcha, Wartrak and another trukk (he wants it to look 80's Optimus Prime).
First up Skorcha, seen a brilliant Idea on another thread with a bike with side car, and totally stealing the idea......
Giving up on waiting to move house, still happening , just don't know when, and going insane from no modelling.
So this puppy I will be trying for WWII bike and sidecar, but its orks so got to have a silly big engine, definately going for that iconic sidecar shape though.
side car like the BMW of the germans...as in the last crusade?...that would look good. i hope the heat is not even further making everything worse for you...here the heat is nearly unbearable...
wouldn´t have placed it as a deffcopta pilot...interesting...
keep the faith matey! i keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
Pintle mount on the side car. Or something like what they used to do on those old bi-planes, the sliding mount, rail mount? Not sure what it is called. Otherwise mount it to the front of the sidecar, as thought the sidecar were a turret. if that makes sense.
now that looks convincing... especially the front fender that is some nice curves!!!
and i like the rolled up pack there! that adds a ton of soul!
while the side-car looks nice with (again) these curvy lines...i think it i a wee bit unrealistic to have a fully covered/armoured gunner but a biker that is unprotected save his coolness of course^^...also you rob yourself the joy of having to build two bickering grots there that try to aim and hit the other at the same time^^...
the head...or should i say hat is an amazing piece of work... am i understanding this riight you "just" bent a piece of plasticcard and added a blob of grey stuff for the dome of the hat?... frigging amazing!
and the scorcha is a mean conversion... looks very nasty...and the mount is also very convincing...who will manhandle...er...grot/orkhandle that weapon?...
Please say that you are going to add corks hanging from the brim of the hat. I believe that's all the rage down NF's way, unless I'm tarring the Tazzies with the same brush as the Aussies? Wouldn't want to offend anyone...
The hat honestly makes me chuckle. You guys have so many options with Orks, and you have a ton ways to cover up mistakes/decorate your works. (Jealous.)
Duuuude! that Skorcha is mental good! and that slouch hat head has gotta stay going to fit in nicely when I get to the 'Paint all of Cams conversions and scratchbuilds' part of my plog! I really feel totally humbled that you are doing these for me
Also the Mek is MAD! great concept and the mace is great, the flesh tones around the mouth really give the model some character and look great! I'm gonna have to up my game and keep checking back here more often aren't I? ......or have I already
... Is that umbrella an Indiana Jones reference? "Turn around, we've got to go back to Berlin!"
It has to be, the bag and umbrella is a giveaway.
Or maybe I'm dumb and everyone else saw it several posts ago... ah yep, someone already thought of it with the sidecar but, I feel like you've really cemented it now.

nope...i too haven´t gotten the hints up until the last update... it is definitely an indiana jones homage... and i too feel ashamed of not getting it earlier...
also...cam...you´re brilliant! you master each day the art of detailing! you even got that ridiculous hat of sean connery right... tat umbrella is a piece of art by the way!
I owe you an apology, I said before that the driver on the bike and side car was from a deffkopta, he was not! Think he is a biker, but I am not sure. My bits boxes are a bit too extensive I guess. The driver on this wartrakk is definitely from the deffkopta.
Anyways, this thing is close, got a few bits to add yet, but need to search them out, so while I get that going, I am going to start on the next trukk for Nerdy.
In the mean time, heres where the Wartrakk is...
The bits I did today, gunner crew..
Started with a AoBR ork boy...
Cut him up a bit...
Put him back together...
Then added a fuel tank..
And fuel line..
Watercooling for the twin linked....
Controlling mechanism...
And finally, a shot of the two together, Skorcha and Wartrakk....

lol...when you last time said so i actually was unsure a bit and wanted to check that with some i have from my bitz box...but i never came around to do it...
and that is some excellent surgery mister! (not to say some really cool vehiclebuilding...)
Really enjoying all your scratchbuilds, Camkierhi. My favorite so far has to be the Orky Skyshield Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but what brand and viscosity of plastic glue do you prefer when doing a lot of work with sheet styrene?
If everything goes to plan I will be in modeling heaven in a couple weeks, tough going til then.
@ the_Armyman, I use different things all the time I am afraid. I use Revell Contacta, both the very liquid one in a needle bottle and the Poly cement one, like good old fashioned airfix glue of many years ago, and I also use a PVC pipe glue, such as a plumber would use on waste pipe, huge pot for couple quid job. I also mix all of these, putting for instance the Revell thin stuff on, as it melts the surface, and after a few minutes putting cement on and sticking it together. I also do a similar effort with superglue, if I need a quick bond, putting on the thin Revell and after a couple minutes of allowing it to melt the surface a bit, putting a drop of superglue on and clamp, then after about 2 minutes you have a permanent bond.
I am afraid I experiment a lot and I am probably not very safe about my experiments, DrH will probably scream at me if he heard me mixing my various chemicals up, especially when you think I sprinkle Bi-Carbinate of soda on my superglue to make it set quicker and to give me rusty joints, And then I heat it all up with a blowtorch, all in my living room. I mean I am probably giving off cyanide fumes from the superglue. My latest experiments have been using a soldering gun to heat and melt the plastics together!
Sorry can't be more helpful, but maybe that helps. At the end of the day if you have a bit more patience than me, revell contacta.
Oh and scuff up the surface with sandpaper, often these days styrene sheet has a "coating" on it that seems to affect the bond.
Between that awesome new trukk and the skorcha/wartrakk, I'd say this is a very awesome and inspiring collection of projects. Super awesome stuff, Cam.
So, moved at last, been a very busy few weeks. Work and moving and life meaning little time for toys, sorry I have not been around as much, but I have popped in here and there.
Well finally got to do something today, just about related to subject. My new workshop. Well just about. Our new house is nice and big, by our standards, meaning a large kitchen diner, with enough room for the family. So the lounge became a store room for everything else, then my beloved turns around and says, well you might as well have the front half of the lounge for your modelling!....So with the rest of the house getting there I decided today was the day to start in at making the lounge my zone. Half (the smaller half) will eventually have a sofa and TV etc.but it is a big room (by British standards) 6m (18ft) x 4m (12ft) approx. I figure I can have a modelling station and a separate painting station, plenty of storage and even fit in a game table.
Well pics or it didn't happen...
Modelling station...
Painting station still needs sorting out..
Storage...
Bit of room for more plastic I recon, still got a lot of boxes to go through though...
Yes those are all full of models to be made and painted.
It's all a bit rough at the moment, but we are in no rush for this room to be tidy, so I can take time later to tidy it all up and give the room a lick of paint.
My better half is happy enough the kitchen dinner is just as big as the lounge, so there is room for it to be a family room.
Lastly fitted a holder to the side of my modelling desk to hold my soldering iron and glue gun...
Thank you all again for your support, normal service will resume soon ish...and I am looking forward to seriously motoring on with projects in this new space.
Well got a little time, so spent it on Nerdy's truck.
Breaking it down..cab...
and in bits...
and trailer...
Can't decide what to do on back end tail gate, and do I do a canvas top?
Nerdy if you are out there, your thoughts bud. (oh and sorry it is soo late, hope to get it to you for Christmas time at latest, maybe fit it in this green year still!)
Oh man, its been a while since I swung by (got unsubbed somehow). That truck is sick! It better be painted up Orktimus Prime colors or I will be sad, but shouldn't be a hard sell for Nerdy. As always your builds have tons of great character to them.
Extra points if you make a small 6-wheeled vehicle come out the back of the trailer.
Nice new digs mate. Hope the extra space doesn't get "Dear you need to clean up your toys because we have company coming over tonight" too often. which I found was the case when we moved a few years back.
Anyway in the words of Orkimus Prime "Keep on Truckin "
Pumpkin Orange Squigs? Er...Halloween is over, Cam : Truth be told, that looks better than the standard red, much as it pains me to say. They come across as saurian or reptilian rather than as cartoons. I like.
Glad you like them. They are always fun. Yeah went a bit orange, contrast better with green!
So I have a couple days off and recharging the batteries. So production is through the roof at mo. Sat in new zone, with lots to do, and although I have a heap of RL things to do, making myself sit and have some fun.
So this mornings effort....
Started out I based up this old trial piece a couple weeks ago, so this morning I started painting...laid down some metallic and rust...
Then went to town and before you know it (or when the wife screams lunch!) here it is...
Next up some better shots of Sammy, showing me several areas I need to clean up...
With chums..
And just for those curious, my paint station....
Thanks for looking in, and thanks for your continued support of an old fart playing with toys..
Thank you for the comments, @ Red honestly not that bad, they are stainless steel food bowls for pets, find them better than a jam jar, easier to clean.
Soooo what I been upto, well lots really, think I better put something up.
Ork wise, well started a new project (having finished Nerdy's trukk, which will be posted as soon as I can manage) But first up meet Ronnie...
Ronnie will be my boy on demand. I was rifling through my bits and found him, someone else had lovingly put him together but poor Ronnie ended up in a bits bag. Something about the pose grabbed me. He will now be my scale shot boy. Above he is demonstrating my new photo background, having seen lots about and trying various myself, this is my latest effort. I little plinth and nice Green backdrop, we will see if it gets me more votes as I never get any at the moment.
We will see Ronnie later....
Next is my new project, which will take forever and will come and go, but something I have fancied for a while. Someone is bound to have done this already, so not claiming any originality here, but...well... you know how everyone and his mate did a Zone Mortalis board or a space hulk board a while ago, well thought I would do a ork version, you know scrap heap in space, lots of silly corridors, bunch of nosey bugger marines come wondering around or maybe a infestation of bugs, kinda steal a bit from everywhere thing, but orky backdrop, so I carved a few tiles and got to moulding...
Results so far....
And with the possibility of adding walls...(Ronnie about to surprise Mr.Orange)
And of course I can use some bits in standard games...(Ronnie looking good)
Been fairly productive this weekend got 2 more blogs to update, my Other activity blog and the LoER comp.
Well thanks for looking in, thought as always are appreciated.
Nice work. I've been buying the cheap, dollar store packs of toy cars. They've all been smashed up and are sitting in a box for me to make a Junkyard Mortalis board. I even have plans for a crane and crusher, etc to fill out a normal board with. I'm sure you'll finish this project (and your's will look much better than mine) before I even start glueing mine.
One thing I've read about the Forgeworld stuff... the walls are tall enough that a Dreadnaught cannot see over them.
Nice scenery. Adding vegetables... well no, plants, on the top of it is a nice idea and adds life to the terrain.
I also like the squigs, love the back/belly color difference.
With some tweaking of the method the tree could be a great use of sprue.
Some places look a bit too much like twisted-together strands to be organic.
While some "horror film" trees do have twisted parts, I think some camouflage of the individual stands is needed to merge them together as a tree would do.
Some putty/plaster between the strands, or cover them with tissue/PVA (keep it wrinkly for added texture), or hot-glue would all add to the lumpy, twisted, shape of the sprue.
@ Ruglud, No worries mate, give a week to mould up the tiles!
@ Gits, Thanks bud.
@ EDC, Thank you sir, I hope so. Trying for easy and pretty at the mo, will have to see how she goes.
@ Solar, Thank you sir, blame Nerdfest, his concept, purely stolen by me.
@ Dr, Agreed, this is a first run, will have another go soon. Was going to be an effort for the LoER comp, but dropped it as Ruglud is doing a similar effort. That tree will appear shortly in my other blog I think as a base for something I have in mind.
Now been doing bits but didn't feel like much to report, but I better give you some pics I suppose.
Typical of me, inconsistent on the colour, but I will get that closer, but I do not mind the inconsistency, makes it a bit random, a bit more Orky.
As you can see I have added a little colour to some of the tiles. Thinking I will do this for just a few, to add variation, so maybe 1 in 5 will get a lick of paint here and there. Also tried some new techniques for me, chipping and salt chipping, Figured if the paint was on the floor all those hob nail boots would scrape it up pretty bad.
And I like the idea of using a scale model to show off terrain and stuff. I've seen a few others do that (RedHarvest comes to mind), but now that you mention it, I might have to try that out too.
Thank you guys, Certainly is brighter in the pics, must be the flash.
Been experimenting.... Got me some new supplies.
So I tried a little sculpting....
Big guy...
And some nasty stuff been hanging out in the corners of the ship!!
This last has to give credit to the master sculpter NAVARRO, his blog (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/377728.page) is amazing and inspirational. I have tried to do a very poor copy of some of his work. thinking along the lines of, well, in the good old days when you played Space Hulk you had genestealers and Orks and Chaos all kicking about. That will be the same possibly in my set up. That way you could play a team of Ork boys off to prove themselves by going down into the dark nasty end and fight the buggy things down there. for example.
Super sculpy. Oven bake. Firzt time for me. Love it at mo. Though a little brittle on fiddly detail and finding it hard to get a smooth finish. Practice i guess.
Casting using lightweight premix filler...
I usually use resin or dental filler...
Both are brilliant in there own ways, the plaster coming in a little cheaper than the resin and giving nice crisp casts, but a little fragile, if you don't get the mix just right, and the resin just brilliant and hard and durable.
Unfortunately I am running out of both with doing so many castings for my Ork Space Hulk. So I thought I have a tub of this stuff lets try it, see what happens.
So this is the results. Crazy light, rubbery feel, not the best at picking up the detail (failed badly on an alien tile I had also tried.) But lets see after a coat of paint, just how bad can it be?
Coat of Hycote plastic primer.
Couple coats of paint and washes.
Comparison with the real thing..
Not bad at all, bit of texture, but looks the part, have to see how durable it is, and need to experiment, because this is water based, so I wonder what happens if I mix a little PVA glue through it? That's for later.
And here is a step by step of me producing a new master for my walls...(spoilered cus!)
Spoiler:
Start with some Sintra board, it is a styrene board used for signage, not foam core, this is harder, but not really solid like Evergreen stuff.
I have some 10mm and 5mm, and for this the main board and support base will be 10mm.
Use a knife to cut "v" grooves to form the shapes of your panels. I will be adding struts so I carve a place for them first then work the rest out.
Since this is orky, got to notch out some bits on the side of the panels, try and not take notches out were panels continue behind other things.( I remember about half the time.)
Now to add some rivets, I use this..
And just press it in..
Next get some strips, and carve struts, these I used 5mm thick stuff for.
These I stick down with PVC pipe adhesive...
Then carve your base support/trunking bits, and stick them on.
And repeat for other side...
Next the little details..
I use a pointy thingy..
And scratch in cracks and details...
Now that took me about 30-40 minutes including mucking about with a camera, you could produce lots of these, or as me, you could use this as a master and make a mould and cast it. I think I will actually make a very simple mould, though you could easily make a two part mould and get it in a oner, if I think about it I could probably make a silicone one piece mould, but that is up to you.
Hope that is helpful to someone, aint no master class, just how I roll.
To finish some gratuitous shots of me mucking about with some of the hulk stuff I have so far...
Bits..
Base..
Figs...
Base with a bit of paint..
Figs...
So it's going to be a Painboy with orderlies torturing Imperial Guardsman Bob. Title will be "No no no noooo!".
Fair bit to go, deadline 10th Jan should manage that easy. I stand no chance in the competition as they are all painters, I aint. But I like having a go every time these come up. try and push myself a bit.
could you provide some fluff for the model? would make the hell lot of details easier to understand...as it is...the energy blade...and the hoses share the same colour... intentional? also, did you do OSL on the painboy? otherwise he has some smears due to drybrush on the sides of the chest, and the arms...if the former...then i would try to intensify the effort there to make it unmistakably...
@ Vik Thanks bud, will give a bit of fluff below. As to the "OSL on the body, been trying to add fleshy bits, so belly underside of arms etc, going pink, not really got it right yet. Also he has some dried blood splatter around that region.. The only real OSL is a bit of glow from his blade, wanted to keep that low key as it tends to take over I find. So just a hint down his arm a little on his pack and hints on tool tray and wall, maybe I need to intensify it a bit.
@ Gits Thank you sir, much appreciated.
OK what is behind this model.....
Nerdy competition, various themes one of which is No No NOOO!
I did think of having a guardsman or marine bent over with a painboy and large attachment in position. but it has to fit on a 40mm base and I would also like to keep it something like a legal model. So figured a Painboy with a couple orderlies, torturing a Guardsman will have to do. Get his hand and face to be saying the NO and I should be there.
I am under no illusions I don't stand a chance in the comp, the other competitors are real painters, but I figure it's always good to keep pushing a bit.
Fluff.
Zedrik da Doc "Deese 'umies are so soft. Now boys, lets try and keep dis un alive! I is curious to see if dey is like us. Just a couple cuts and we is seeing if un of me improvements is working on him! Maybe my new claw, have to miniturize it for him doh, he is punny!"
Guardsman 3021013 "No No No NOOOOO!" Why am I so unlucky, five minute nap and wake up behind enemy lines with Dr Freekshow here!
Grot Zee" Cut him again master, he still yackin', they never shuts up!"
Grot Dink" Move and I blow yur ear off!"
My own thoughts on my painting...
Spoiler:
Catachan to try a bit of flesh tone work, Think he is maybe a bit tanned, but not far away, wish I had got a better face, as this one is really difficult to detail, always comes out caricature, wanted gritty.
Wanted grots to be more green, like glowing green, as my grots tend to be an intensified or concentrated version if you like, may yet add a yellow to the skin tones on them, to bring it glowing out. Although I have done about 5 layers of blending on them they have come out flat, and not really happy.
Painboy, wanted brutal for the sake of fun, think that is there, with my orks I am trying to do a pinky underside, (blame Nerdy) like the idea of a slight contrast fleshy lips and soft parts, under the arms, belly, throat etc. been trying to do "freckles" as well toning the green into it, but all seems wasted at the moment, His general green although I am happy with it, doesn't have enough contrast again, got to work on this. His weapon is his electric carving knife upgraded a little.
Over all I like it, but I think I can do better. Wanted to improve my painting some time ago, have obviously got distracted, as I think I have done better, rushing again and not really in a happy place with it, mind is off doing other things, the painting has been a chore, and that shows I think.
Just want to add....With the end of the year coming up and looking back....
Thank you all for looking, and the foolish few who still hang and comment, means a lot. Don't really do this for accolades and applause, but prefer to get comments than drifting along. Enjoy feedback, especially constructive critique. And I guess like us all I want a few more votes in the gallery, again though, for growth, independent review, which tells me if I am improving or not.
It is fun and the one thing I have in life which is to be honest.
Heres to another year and hopefully you all hang around.
my big plan is to hang around at dakka the coming year again a bit more than the last couple of months ago showed...that and get some hobby action again...that is my new year resolution so to say...
the fluff and your thoughts towards your painting has truly helped understand the model way better...
i think one step to see if you really achieved with your painting what you´ve planned would be to actually change the lighting situation... dunno if in person under the bleeding sunlight your models come out better...but that is my strong guess here...following this train of thought, i think you should invest in some wee minutes out in aforementioned sunlight and take the above shots anew and then you can really go to town and dissect your painting skills... before that i think i like your idea of a more vibrant green looking grots... that is one thing i would suggest you to tackle some more...as i like that...the soft flesh issue is a nice idea...seen n nature in many forms and variations...to be honest, i am not seeing it currently with the doc tho...yet...again...changing light might do that trick...
as for the guardsman about to get chopped to pieces...i think the face fits the nononoooo theme just right, and the posing of his character is also very good... you´re a regular storyteller when it comes to model pantomime...if you´re in need for more guardsman heads...just say the word... i could get drowned in these... many variations in oblivion in my bitz box!
only one issue for me that i would like you to think about... basically there aren´t that many colors around to choose from in a scheme for any model... green is for orky skin...check... you used the blue for the energy effect...check... details in red, black and white...check... pants and the (forgot the name of that wrapped around calf area...) in browns and beiges...check... which leaves purple and yellow and pink...these would be options for the hoses of the pain boys weapon...to be honest the one major issue is exactly this... the two detail parts share one hue and are exactly together...this makes me edgy...so to say... firstly for that randomly look i would choose two colors, one for each hose, and secondly...and since the binding cloth is close to yellow you either change the binders color and use yellow hose or choose other colors for the hoses more into a pinky hue...? did i make myself understandable here?... hope you can cope with my thoughts/ critics^^
Feeling a bit orky and after recently doing a large birdy thingy on my other blog, I think I am in the mood for a Squiggoth I started a while ago.......
I absolutely love the way this project is going! Just my opinion... but I think the howdah is too big. Really distracts from the critter (which is a shame).
I agree, especially if that's meant to be metal. If it was a skeleton of wood or something that may not be too large, but solid chunk of metal would squish the poor guy.
@ Theo, OK that's a given, will do.
@mxwllmdr, Thank you sir.
@ Anpu-adom, yup cereal box cardboard. Cut into strips, superglued in place, wash over with pva, badabing!
This is spoilered for you Anpu-adom, I am too embarrassed to air it openly.
Spoiler:
A long time ago I made this from a cd and the leftovers from a box of Catachan's for a competition here on Dakka. All the boards and bindings are made from the cardboard box. The spars are all sprue. I am highly embarrassed by this build because it beat DrH's wooden hut in that competition and that thing is a legendary piece, bit of an Ultravox "Vienna" moment. (the brilliant classic Vienna by Ultravox was kept off the Number One spot by a really crap song, think it was "Ah shut up ah ya face!" for anyone not getting that reference.)
Thanks, Cam. I may have to use that technique in some of my own building. My kids go through enough cereal, I would be able to bling out several tables of terrain with that technique.
Them bones, them bones, them dry dry bones.
Nice work Cam splendid conversion, I was not sure where you were heading with the plating at first but adding the sign post designs is genius.
On top of tha creating the bone rig was epic, I like that you wrapped the bones together rather than plates.
Add to all this out the rather super paint scheme ( love the slightly pink against the browny orange ) great job mate I think I would like to try something like this one day.
Great job Cam , I'm still racking my brain for what this model reminds me of, but it looks daunting to face. I'm glad you went with the bone howdah for sure.
That's already a model that deserves at least half an hour of detailed appreciation to do it any real justice! That horn looks vicious...and that steering ork looks promising too..(slight in need of touch up for the tongue tho? And a slight bit brighter drybrush there follows by a pink/red wash?)
Well in case you didn't know I think I am a crap painter (trust me, take a look at the Dakka Gallery, there are some amazing painters out there, some of you even grace my pages with comments and support.), but I can pass off a half tidy job, if I keep at it, and nail it down tight, so this I am afraid is going to be a long winded process as I nail this sucker down, cus I am in love....
Here we go....
Started on warpaint...
Started nailing in on that gun...
Made and painted up a couple flags for the back end..
And started in on that tongue...
I really appreciate you looking and your feedback.
I just realized what was bugging me about its mouth. It has no teeth on the top!
You could maybe do a small 'beak plate' on the front of the top jaw, to sharpen it up a little. But yeah, with tusks like that you don't need a metal maw.
Though you could probably do an Oliphant-style wrapping on the tusks.
You are far from a crap painter. Thats me, you take the time to do different shades and outlines. I prefer a single coat and done. You are far from crap don't make me come over there.....I already have to swim to austrailia to play against Azazelx, I don't need to circumnavigate the globe to slap you.
I bow to your superior scratch building skills. That's amazing. I feel like you should put it on a turntable/lazy susan and do a 360 degree view.
Oh, and you are not a crap painter! Surely you're being modest. Just look back at your Megaboss, Mekboy, or any of the wacky vehicles you've made. I think it's the color scheme and weathering that really sells them. So Orky. Keep up the good work!
Amazing work I might have to do something similar, I was going to try an elephant but my Daughter has since co-opted the elephant. That Triceratops (since my daughter has that exact one) is a better size now that I see it converted over. (I will buy a new one not steal hers, since after typing that last lien it sounds bad.)
@ Theo, you have yet again got me going on something, hope you like it.
@ Gits Thank you as always.
@ Ruglud Thank you and yup when me juices are flowing I am usually on a flyer, of course that leads to issues, but hey ho, Yours are a lot better than my end results I just have lots more of them.
@ Raskana Thank you, yes when I saw this model in a toy shop I thought a couple quid and a couple hours work and I got me a squiggoth, and here I am. Go buy it.
Thank you all for looking and your wonderful support, thoughts appreciated back later with final pics of this puppy.
also...what is that small piece of blue/yellow at the verge of the puddle?...almst looks like a SM helmet?
the whole piece is so packed, it takes ages to digest everything...i showed the non primed bark my wife and she loved it instantly! also...nice to see the teef again in that old looking...look...that tartar look is totally awesome!
if there was just one thing i would have added...it would be drool ...just a bit...
Good job on the Doc and his patient victim. Lots of character to the piece.
And great work finishing off the squigoth thingy. I like the use of road signs in the armour. The gun is a brilliant use of parts. Good job on crafting the bones. And the display base is the perfect finish.
I have a very big WAAAAAGH!! to build, it will never be complete. But this year I want to have a table full of boys and wagons and stuff, get some of these silly ideas out of my head and on the table. One of the things is, Clans. They have lost something I think, ORKS are just ORKS now! Weety has it right, the good old days when a WAAAGH! was made of lots of Clans, coming together under one Warlord. Well I am going to go for this feel, and the old fashioned stuff that is in my head and probably not actually Lore, like, Goffs are hard close quarters elites, Badmoons have more teeth and better gear, Bloodaxes mimic imperial guard, with uniforms and looted tanks etc. And there are orks that are just nuts for speed, doesn't have to go boom just go FASTA! But all this is somehow lorded over by the biggest nastiest scariest ORK imaginable. Now as you have seen on my blog if you have been around a while, I have done several Warbosses, these guys will be clan leaders, with an eventual true Warlord to rule them all.
So in that vain I have a whim at this time and with that squiggoth in my blood right now to do a Snakebite Clan. They will be all things wild and Squiggy, going to have some Squig herders, plenty of Squigs, Some wild boys and some boar boys. Going to dig out the rules for a Feral army and use that. This will be an Army in and of itself, but will attach to the larger Waargh! just as the fluff in my head says, they flock to the greatest leaders, but each band is still unique and keeps its distinct self.
Now to the good bit I hope, start in on the Leadership and will go from there on to some Boar boys, and well if he is the leader he needs a ride right!.....
Made like this...took some sprue...
Bulked it out with foam...
Started covering it with Greenstuff....
This will be the Warboss of the Snakebite clans ride so it is the biggest baddest boar going, so is a bit big maybe!
Thank you for your support I hope I don't scare you away and hope you hang around for the ride. There are other projects that will still be going on, my other things like the ORKY Space hulk is still happening, just not boring you with dozens of pics of the same thing over and over, and my Camo marines, I also will get to some IG and some Nids, and got a faint itch for some Chaos, but we will see. Trouble is I get ditracted by things, like DZ at the moment, but that will not take me much time, there is after al only soo much terrain you can have for that, isn't there?
How you are able to squeeze so much productivity time into your cramped schedule is beyond me...but who are we to complain... such eye candies you provide is with...
Hog looks super already...and I like that clan merger idea too! Spuds fluffy as hell!
er....i am disturbed by the sketch of your daughter...be sure to check her browser history from time to time... no honestly...very talented work, creepy but very professional looking...seems the family of yours is full of creativity!
also...that jaw...i hear a certain bond theme grunted...
Sorry, haven't been checking everything lately, time and family in the way. The Squiggoth is brilliant, I love the guy hiding in the tree trunk (brilliant idea there ). Loving how the boar is starting out. I think it needs a spring for the tail, like an old mattress box spring welded to the Pigs hindquarter.
