Oooooh yeah Boi!!!! we gonna have ourselves an Ork-off ;-) inspired by the Orkishness i've been trawling through I shall be using your inspiring conversions to begin my Green tide tomorrow.......
Thank you all, glad you like him, I am still on him, but not had much time,, finally today got some time, primed him, and while waiting thought I would start something else.....
So it begins...
Couple hours later...
Oh and comes to bits for painting...
This is actually not going to be mine, and someone else will be painting it. Will be joined by a few friends. Still very WIP at this stage. And as always fully open to comments and suggestions.
Done a bit more done on the buggy, but not worth really showing.
And started to paint the Boss, but don't want to show him off until he's complete. Won't be long.
Had to clear up all my work area for guests coming over for christmas, trying to look presentable. Does mean I have a clear desk though to take nice pictures of my LoER comp entry. Competition is so tough I want to do a bit more before I call it a day on it, but easily achievable in time frame.
Well I hope your all ready for christmas, I am not, got to go out today to finish off the shopping and hopefully sneak a prezzy for my beloved. (she puts up with so much!)
Just put a sepia wash on the Warboss, think I will give him a small introduction......
They call him Squeak, because thats what anyone who see's him does, usually before they die horribly....
Love the backpack on the big guy. He eats Space Marines, lots of Space Marines, right? Tell me he does. He'll be my hero
That is quick work on the buggy too. The plasticard wheel covers? Just bent with the Chef's torch? And they hold that shape on their own, with no additional support?
Ready for Christmas. LoER entry done. Just need to clear a large area to photograph it. Feels good to be done early, eh?
With that in mind, far to busy to get him done so better post a WIP shot, still got more to add yet and painting is basic at mo, lots more to do on that.
Oh and picked this up...thinking of doing a Warboss on a squiggy stead type thing, so severe beheading and remodel, with some armour plates and one of my super large bosses on top and maybe?
Now ....
Merry Christmas one and all, hope you have a wonderful time
I think you could make that into a proper big squiggoth (heavy choice like the one I did). Put a howdah of sorts on the back for you guys to ride in and then not only do you have a cool model but a legal one as well. I think you could probably remove the skirt from the head and take the horns and make them tusks... you'd be 75% there!
Hey, I was thinking about that same thing today, maybe being able to catch one in a post-Christmas sale? (No way I was going out shopping for toys TODAY )
@ Dr H Had visitors so I did most of the driving, thus no hangover, going to have to work on that!, Thanks, I am afraid I am dumb on specifics with the model, its a Tricerotops to me, but I know there were many different ones, so you may be right. I am afraid it is no longer, see below, far below....
@ Gits Indeed I am a little in a swither as to which way to go. You know that bit in LOTR where the Ork General comes down through the army on a huge Warg, trying for something like that!, but will have to do a size comparison for you to tell me how close it is. Only cost about £5 for that, and it is a nice model. Well was!! See below.
@ LT Do it bud.
So HEEEERRRREEEES Squeek!
Thoughts?
Oh and Da Squggy thing!
He will be getting LOTS of armour plating, and will get painted up from scratch.
When you said giant squig I had imagined you'd cut the dino in half back towards the hind legs, and then rebuild the front into a massive squig grimace face. The sguiggoth is a thing though and what you've done looks more like that so it works. But now I kind of want to do what I said
I do think that re-using the horns as tusks is a good idea, though- but for that you'll have to do some re-shaping on the lower jaw- you need good projecty bits for the tusks to anchor in, elsewise they either look glued on or you have to put them sticking out oddways.
The chain flail is so orky. I can easily picture it flying around hitting his ladz that get too close.
The gun looks dead hard, you can count it as Da Dead Shiny Shoota and legally get 6 shots a turn.
I like the Squiggoth too, what rules are you planning on using? I see the apocalypse rules have a 50 point Squiggoth, but it can only have a cannon( zap, lobba, or kannon) which seems odd, no big shootas plastered every where.
Camkierhi wrote:@ Dr H Had visitors so I did most of the driving, thus no hangover, going to have to work on that!,
Boo to being designated driver. I also had no hangover, despite half a bottle of vodka... Just like the good Ol' days. Will have to try again for new year.
Thanks, I am afraid I am dumb on specifics with the model, its a Tricerotops to me, but I know there were many different ones, so you may be right. I am afraid it is no longer, see below, far below....
I was very in to Dino's as a child, so can still spot the main ones. Although I did check on WikiP' first for spelling at least.
Good start. Keep at it. Not a lot I can add at this stage as any suggestions I could make, would move it away from the squig-ness of it. I shall keep watching to see how it progresses... and then stick my oar in later.
Well time for an update, Oh and a change of tack again, back to the buggies.
Firstly...
@ Solar_lion. Thank you sir.
@ Red. Thank youi, all taken on board. Will be back on it soon, got a bee in me bonnet at the mo.
@ Gorgrimm. Thank you sir, um rules!? what for! Don't play. @ Dr, Thank you bud.
OK Buggies!
First buggy...
Comes to bits for painting.
No 2....
They are still WIP and got to add afair amount of detail yet, and a lot of rivets.,
These are actually for Nerdfest, doing them for him for his Bloodaxe Orks, he said to think along the lines of Willy's Jeeps, so how am I doing?
@ Gorgrimm. Thank you sir, um rules!? what for! Don't play.
Lol, aha, then no worries. I find I build/paint more than play myslef, unless someone wants a casual or story driven game. I'm getting to old to remember all the rules, but love that they finally gave "relics" to orks and my warboss can fire six shots, but if he rolls a one, it hits a friendly. So much orky fun, like back when Squigg Catapults kept launching the crew...
Anyway, enough of that, like the buggies, I suck at scratch building, how do you do the bending on the wheel wells?
@Red. Thanks bud. Glad its looking close.
@MT. Lol @Gorgrimm. Thank you. Last time I played a proper game was the release of 5th.
As to bending PC, I heat it with a small kitchen blowtorch. Very carefully! Bend all sorts of things that way. But great care is needed.
@ Ruglud, Jurrasic park indeed! (and wish you had not seen that!)
@ Gits Cheers bud.
Well I have been working, not as fast as I would like, been having some trials and tribulations with the resin casting mallarky, Its ok but problematic, and distracting, especially with setting times etc, and the kidsabout demanding, as they should be.
But I give you a progress report... Here is one of the casting issues I have had......
Dino' fact of the day: That would be an Iguanodon in the back there. Standing in the "old" fashion; before people realised that dino's had tails for balance and not to drag along the floor. But after the "old, old" fashion; where people thought the thumb spike went on the nose.
What's the problem you are having with the rocket pod casting?
Was it in here you were asking about resins, I read it somewhere? The Smooth-on Smooth-cast resins I've used have been quite runny. Which I like for my injection moulding. And you've seen what the product looks like from that.
Oh yeah, maybe add some pointy bits for the rockets in the pods?
Looking good. One of those launchers needs to launch harpoons in lieu of rockets.
For C&C... looks like you are having some trouble drilling clean holes, at least in the exhaust pipes on the one buggy? I've found that if you sleeve the 'pipe' on a piece of dowel, then drill, you can get a cleaner hole if you are using a drill bit.

I love your buggies Cam' !
I suck at converting anything (I'm happy when I swap two heads from different models) so I'm always impressed when I see people doing such kind of things.
@ Gits. LOL Going to have to do something along those lines now.
@ Dr.H Thank you for the dino facts, funny enough I actually just about knew that one, it wont be like that for long. Casting issues asked about on otherstuff blog, with these the original had pointy rokkits sticking out, but no matter what I try cant get the rokkits to cast, keep getting air bubbles. These are those casts cleaned up and drilled for effect, Might still try and make some "rokkits" to stick in the holes.
@ Briancj, Crew are being added, though Nerdy will be adding his own heads.
@ Shas Yup, but will be giving an alternative weapon system for each, probably big shootaz.
@ Richiefuzz, Thank you sir.
@ LDD LOL Ah but Orkses listenz to Great music!
@ Levi, Thank you sir.
@ Red Like the idea of Harpoons, especially as Nerdy has done a spearwielding Navy Seal Ork. The dodgy holes issue, I will sort, most of the time I use a Dremmel, with pointy bit, as it varies the holes a bit, which as LDD says is more orky.
@ Minus, Thank you sir, much appreciated. Painting will be down to Nerdfest, I will be posting them soon I hope as they will take forever to get to the other side of the world, and he paints so fast, he may be done with the orks by the time they get there?!!
WOW, OK, update, bit boring really, barring n alternative for the weapn systems, calling No1 done. Was not 100% happy with the front end so did a little alteration...
Thank you all for your support, cheers for looking in.

I see. Yeah, I have tried to do simple casts of similar things before and not managed to avoid the trapped bubble in the tip issue.
If it's an open-topped mould and the resin doesn't cure quickly (I think you use quite a quick one), then you can try poking into each hole with a cocktail stick or similar implement to dislodge the bubble.
Or it's a complex mould with air escape track thingies (dyslexia fail, whatever they are called) for each missile tip. Probably easier to make them separate and stick them in.
I its much better indeed love the front section looks great, the back could do with more rivets though
As for the missiles why not buy the HW Guard rockits of ebay or ask on here as they are normally spares knocking around, as for casting them have you tried casting in 2 halfs then stick them together afterwards
This rokkit launcher is magnatized. Not a brilliant hold, but will stop it falling off while moving the model around. Cables Magnetized as well so can go to shoota arrangement when I get to it.
Casting....
This is my current mould, did also try casting in 2 halves, but used the reusable putty stuff and it just did not work, Will try making a better set of proper silicone molds, in 2 halves I think.
Seriously thinking about a different resin at the moment, I am just about happy with what I use, but I see others getting better results, so going to try some other stuff. Doc, where do you get yours, Ebay'd it and only comes from Australia, very expensive?
Thanks for looking, in and the comments are always most welcome, especially constructiver critique.
happy new year to you and your loved ones...
hope you had a good time during all the festivities...
as you see with my current avatar...´m lurking...:( still...
the squiggoth looks amazingly promising... I hope to see some more of it soon...
the buggies...a very cool work so far...I see them as a wave of small vehicles swarming over any opponent...actually these would also have been very fitting for grots...
the truck is a piece of art...I probably mix threads here... but your amazing work is amazing regardless of the thread it gets shown^^...
and then your two latest warlords... ... on so many levels of wow...the flail is one hell of a nasty piece of weaponry...
Camkierhi wrote: ...Seriously thinking about a different resin at the moment, I am just about happy with what I use, but I see others getting better results, so going to try some other stuff. Doc, where do you get yours, Ebay'd it and only comes from Australia, very expensive?
You might get away with poking in those holes as you slowly (as you can) fill that mould, try and dislodge the bubble before it's fully submerged, one hole at a time (You've got three hands, haven't you ).
I bought both my silicone and resin from Bentley advanced materials. It's the Smooth-cast 300 series Urethane plastic, but they have many flavours available. They are also quite helpful with answering questions. But not terribly cheap (although cheaper than from Australia).
No vents on the deeper recesses will surely make difficult for the resin to flow in/bubbles float out. Maybe you could try "hand" filling the tips with resin - depending on viscosity, by brushing it in, or daubing it with a toothpick - before pouring the main lot?
Will be buying some different resin the end of the month I think.
In the mean time, sorry for not updating you. Life been a bit crazy. Got a promotion at work, and before I could even get my self started, I am covering someone who's job is several steps up again. We will see how I go. Does mean my comute just got even longer. (on a normal day 100mile round trip, now 160 mile round trip.) Still did get a few little bits done.
Been working on buggies, barring the big shoota options thats the 3 done.
Then started in on the first Trukk...
Cab...
Then some wheels etc.
And the start of the load bay. Will be no seating, Orkses don't sit.
Still long way to go, crew, weapon system, Lots more plating, possibly a frame on the back and maybe a tarp!
First off congrats on the promotion shame about the workload but thats life I guess .......
The buggies looking awesome I gather they are getting close to their trip around the world soon then
Nice start on the truck love the cab section and crazy front grill plenty of dials as well never thought an ork would need that many or understand them
Great plating on the floor as well and love the door s as well and working nice touch
Crazy commute you got Cam, but grats on the promotion. Hopefully it wont stem your creativity - the truk is excellent work, truly impressive speed you work at
A promotion! Terrific! You mentioned moving too. Sounds wise. 160 miles/day is crazy. Given the size of Great Britain, that is almost halfway across the island or more, at leat in some parts?
The half-track truck is nicely started. How about a differential on that front axle, since it is so visible? The exhaust, will it be trimmed? And you definitely will have a motor pool. Great idea. You'll need to build a maintenance shack or garage too. And a fuel dump... Heck, a whole table of terrain. It would make a great themed table y'know.
Thank you guys, especially for the "personal thoughts".
@ Red Please see what you think of the exhaust now, I will be putting on a front and rear diffs, not sure whether to actually put a second engine at the back for the track drive or to have a driveshaft? kinda silly thing a Mek might do. As to the terrain, I might just have to do that, probably after I move as I am hoping to have a bit more settled hobby space, maybe a nice garage! But for these vehicles I will not need that as these will be winging there way around the world to transport and support Nerdy's amazing orks, he is currently building.
That's a beautiful looking Trukk cab Cam. Your scratch-building skills are amazing to behold.
And I would offer my congratulations on the improvement of your mundane circumstances as well. With promotion comes increased responsibility... that kind of goes with the territory.
Again congrats to your promotion! Well deserved for such an artisan like yourself!
The jeeps are really nice, and three is always a magic number...
The new truck is already awesome, too bad this won't be paiinted by you... But then again these in the hands of nerdy is also a good thing^^
Love the row of dakka I see there...
Soooooo awesome right now! everything looks better than anything i've seen conceptually before! will look amazing when they are painted up too, just the right amount of different 'stuffs' to add character :-)
Cam, you cannot mail them off until somebody confirms that they have seen Bladerunner. Just sayin'
The exhausts are much improved. Consider making some sort of jig for future use, so that you can just bang them out quickly, and cleanly. Even orcs would do such a thing... less time spent makin' means more time for shootin'.
Been a bit tired, but tonight am doing a bit at least. The buggies I am calling done, and will be mailed as soon as I can manage it. The 1st trukk I am mucking about with as we speak...
Put a bit of interior detailing....
Little riveting on the outside.
Finished the right hand exhaust..
Right this minute I am working on that boring dozer blade up front.
Thank you for your support guys, sorry I been a bit quiet, getting used to new job.
Well my plan is to have some plates dangling down to protect the track and to put some "fenders" on the wheels at th front. Got to finish detailing the underside. Diffs etc. also need to decide where to put the weapon systems. Probably the roof of the cab. Thinking either an automated turret similar to the buggies, or a simple mount behind a stack of sandbags . With a grot crew!
Back to bed, try and catch another hour before I have to get up. Cheers for now.
i went back and re-read a bunch of pages in the 30-40 range, trying to figure out when you started casting wheels. noticed you also cast tracks for the new trukk, and didn't say anything about them...they look fantastic! have been thinking about some grot tanks (wazoo2000 had a tut about them, and Gitsplitta's got a fleet of them...they look fun to make), and i was going to build one tread and make it my first casting, so i didn't have to keep doing them for each tank. when i get to that point, i'll probably ask for pointers. when are we going to see some WIP for the LoER contest?
edit: guess i need to keep up on your other threads...noticed last night you were talking about casting quite a bit over there on another thread.
I will sort a bit of a tut on my molding, but I highly recomend DrH's or any of the ones that can be found on Dakka.
In the mean time, had a little time today so this is trukk no.1 just about done.
Thanks for looking in, sorry I am a bit quiet, RL troubles, but not to worry. Think I will divert myself a little before trukk No.2 and the scorcher and the wartrakk.
Hiya mate... sorry not been through your pages for a while... but WOoooo some incredible work! Real attention to detail and a great sense of character already! Top stuff and reallg inspirational!
One thing that I've just noticed; The mud-guard over the front wheel is all dented (due to your heating technique), but has no scratches/chips like the rest of the truck... this isn't a major problem. Also-But (this is what I have just noticed), the sides of the rear truck bed are all chipped and scratched, but not dented, and are very straight.
Maybe a tweak in a couple of places with a pair of pliers will help. Just to take the straightness out of them.
@ Grim, Thank you sir. Much appreciated.
@ Gits, Thank you, means a lot. And everyone should build a half track some time. Would love to see your take.
@ Ruglud, Don't know what colour Nerdy will be painting them. But thank you.
@ Magos, Thank you, always good to hear from you. Really glad to be an "inspiration" to anyone, it is what I would aspire to.
@ Dr.H, Thank you Doc, well spotted and I have done some work on it, but will; do more, Next time you see them they will prbably be on the other side of the world.
@ Anpu-adom, Thank you and I am sure your efforts will be brilliant.
Basically an accident, either happening or happened.
I am going for "Da Indy Burga"
Ork airship, explosion.
First of all I am playing with the airship. So decided to do something different for me, a small scale model.
Intital frame..
Strutts...
Skin..
Stitching...
Bit of string!...
Now I am not happy with this method, especially for a bigger ship. But for this I will persist. I am thinking I will make this a grots ship or maybe a ship used to build the bigger vessel.
Your thoughts as always for me, are very much appreciated.
you melted the rods to get the curves???...blimey...
but...but...but...all now lost to our eyes due to the cover...
tho I love these stitches!
you probably did some research right? so I can probably skip mentioning the orky football blimp that can be found here in the gallery? ...
but I feel your pain mate... there are so many tries to crate a fitting shape for an airship... believe me... I am currently thinking about version mark twelve or something for my own steampunk one...
so be brave and move further^^
as for the half track...a beauty, can´t be called anything less...*bows*
cheers vik
(and as for private life... keep your head up mate! I cross my fingers for better times!!!)
Just a comment for when you start painting... hydrogen burns more orange than red or yellow... something to keep in mind when you get to the painting stage.
Ruglud wrote: Dat truk is da nutz... Paint it red ...
I like the way you think
Now the Zeppelin. Cool idea. However (yes, I'm gonna be TFG) would the cover look better if it were taut, or even bulging a bit, like it was over-inflated? It would be just like orcs to do that. That, and/or add some more vertical stitching to give a sense of panels.
I'm very curious to see the gondola for it. And the fins.
watching with anticipation...i think more than a few of us are looking forward to seeing how you tackle this project. i watched Automata yesterday, and it made me *really* want to build an airship now...
Just had to point out that pure Hydrogen-Oxygen burns with a colourless flame (actually emits in the UV range). Impurities are what would add colour to the flame. Unburnt Carbon gives you the orange colours of "normal" fire and Carbon Dioxide give you the blue of natural gas flames, for example.
Good job on the frame build and I really like the stitches.
I agree with Red that the balloon could look more inflated. Maybe try gluing a piece to the frame and then heating it while holding it upside-down so it sags down away from the frame.
Dr H wrote: Just had to point out that pure Hydrogen-Oxygen burns with a colourless flame (actually emits in the UV range). Impurities are what would add colour to the flame. I've gotta science nerd out on this one! Enjoy this video... they have an entire series, and more all the time!
Also, observers on the ground during the Hindenburg explosion noted the redness of the flames. This is most likely due to the hydrogen giving off energy from the Balmer 6->2 transition before for reacting. In the Hindenburg explosion and the pure hydrogen balloon, the hydrogen is poorly mixed with oxygen causing a slow reaction speed. This slow reaction speed allows significant heating of the unreacted Hydrogen. When burning hydrogen in a burner, the ratio of hydrogen and oxygen should be nicely stoichiometric leaving little if any unreacted hydrogen to heat. Then the predominant color would be in the ultraviolet (Oxygen hydogen bond formation).
I do have to admit, that I hadn't thought of the bonds that are forming as determining the colors. I might have been asleep that day in PChem.
But back to the point... Great work and I can't wait to see the finished burning grot dirigible.
Ah yes. I was thinking of a Bunsen burner type situation and hadn't thought about the less than ideal mixture with oxygen in a balloon.
Of course, the H-alpha line that astronomer's like so much. At 656nm wavelength (I did have a wikiP' of Balmer series, I don't have the sort of memory to pull out numbers like that) that's quite "far" red, which is nearly near-IR (which starts in the 700's). That's why it's often lost in the orange glow.
Yeah, there's a lot of energy to be had in bond formation.
Biochemistry is best, Doc. But no matter the *chemistry or *physics, yeah, the best. But let's not give those psychologists and sociologists a complex eh? They are people too...
Ergh, anything with biology involved is just so messy. Those cells just don't do the same thing every time, in a predictable way. Bloody cells and their peptides and lipids and things...
Thank you all so much, fantastic responses. All suggestions are taken in, and are noted.
Been crazy here, but have done a little bit.
As I said before I was not happy with the previous airship design. Could not get the Balloning effect I wanted, and impractical design method, however, it will get used, probably in this project but we will see.
Time is marching on now and normally by now I have just about finished, let alone not really started..... So I thought about the design of the blimp.
I want to do something along this lines....
So I thought I could do circles to act as ribs, then join them up with strutts, throw on a skin and ......blimp?
Right need some circles of a good size!? Nothing.......Oh could buy some small plastic picture frames!, ....No.......Oh ok I will make some then.....
Now if you want to see the "making of" (very looselycalled )tut, please nip over to my other thread, done a bit about mold making and casting over there. Strictly an Idiots guide, as it was an idiot who typed it.
In the end here I am with some circles about the right size.....
Going to rib them up and go from there. Should hopefully get that done today.
Thank you so much for looking in and your comments are a tonic.
Thats a great idea ( makes sense what they are for now after reading your other thread ) gives you some detailed sections and a support structure at the same time
Looking at the scale and size of this it is going to be huge good luck mate but this should be awesome
отличные работы. багги великолепны! украду несколько ваших идей! (пользуюсь автоматическим переводчиком! извините за мой английский.)
excellent work. buggies are great! : thumbsup: steal some of your ideas! (I use an automatic translator ! sorry for my English . )
Thank you Kenderthistle, you are wwelcome to any and all ideas, thats what I am here for.
And no apology necessary, we are one world on Dakka, thank you for the English, I am afraid I am a typically ignorant Brit where language is concerned.
i thought the old airship was pretty orky...but maybe a bit on the warhammer fantasy side of orky. this new design seems like the project is going to be huge...good luck!

You need to check Kenderthistle thread this guy has some talent
Interesting re-boot. Have you ever constructed one of those balsa wood and tissue paper airships or planes? I think the construction methods used for those projects would be of help with this project.
Fitting the plastic skin might work better if you cut it into strips and wrapped it around the circumference, hiding the seam at the bottom, where it will be covered by the gondola. For the tapered front and rear, I would cut and fit the panels like I do domes for buildings. Or use a thinner material.
Great start although i think you are making this more difficult by using plastic as the skin have you not considered other avenues to make it easier to achieve like maybe fabric or paper mache hell I think I have even seen one made using tights Good Luck
A simple guide to create a demonic skin grandfather Nurgle by studio Fantasy Game.
1. Take a flat surface , the author took a piece of PVC plastic (metal can not be taken , it is possible to take cover from the plastic container ) and any clerical PVA glue .
2. Pour glue on a flat surface and roll out a thin layer to the desired volume of us , it is desirable that the thickness is not greater than 1 mm , the excess can be removed.
3. We put the whole thing in the microwave for 30 seconds.
4. Then a bit of magic and that's demonic skin is ready .
5. superimposed on the model and color .
With a little imagination , this method can be used for many other things , for the decoration of stands for Tyranid etc. etc.
Thank you all so much, greatly appreciate your thoughts and time guys....
Sorry no update so to speak, but a naughty pic or two. Just got this in from one of my fave ebay shops. Trolltrader. and my favourite 2 words search "BITS BAG"....
The highlights after a quick glance....
I got a fair bit for my money. A squad of 6 bikes. Oldschool dread, some great grot specials, few nice old school orks, plus at least a 10 ork unit of nobs, about 40 or more ork boys and lots of bits.
If you see anything special you need PM me. Lot of it is not complete, but for me that is no problem.
Hope to actually do some modelling tomorrow night, we will see though.
Ahh wow Cam...you sure go in deep with your scratchbuild projects. This is looking to be a great build! So much fun and humor. I gotta love despite my irrational fear of blimps in RL!!
Cheers
Bottom Photo,The Hand of Gork? I was expecting it to be, y'know, green.
Going to be interesting to see that all together. The stitching looks fine, but it there going to any shredded 'fabric' where the stitches have ripped out?
Sorry to hear you're on the receiving end of life right now dude!
On the plus side - you say you don't thinbk you'll finish in time, but just putting together the bits you have already finished will blow most efforts away Fantastic job so far with build and paint.
Sorry to hear life is gakky at the moment mate hope there is a quick turn around soon
However this looks amazing mate I was not sold on you using melted plastic sheeting for the body but it has worked perfectly also the the paint work has worked really well at achieving a very convincing fabric look
The other design work as in the moon and flames is great and adds to the orkiness of its origins, along with the propeller and its direction arrows
It looks leathery. Very nice effect. Overall outstanding work. The arrows on the propeller are a wonderful touch. I do want to see some sort of nose cone over that propeller though. Something to make it look like it actually spins. Could just be the angle of the photo. If so, ignore my nattering.
Will there be grots dangling from it? the blimp, or any part of it?
Thank you one and all, your all nuts, but that's ok so am I!
So trying still.
First up, well has to be a reason for da Blimp right?
Sorry limited WIP shots.....
I added one of my kids pea shooter toy thingy....
And worked out how to "float" it, and strung it together to get an idea of how I am doing, bear in mind this is still WIP.
I know the flames are not there yet, but the material is not taking paint yet, going to sort that out. Also, I don't think it is in final position yet, probably move the front end up a bit yet, and have a bigger explosion. Got to add lots of "crew" as well.
Well thank you for looking, sorry the updates are slow, As ever though your thoughts are very much appreciated.
I have faith that it will look awesome. and the difference between 90% done and 100% isn't that much when your piece is so detailed, so i wouldn't sweat it.
Great piece. Instead of electric candles, if you can find those submersible LED lights at a local craft store, or even a florist, try those. They may fit better. I use them quite a bit.
Hi mate! Sorry not been on for a while and just got caught up on the progress of the blimp..... looks INCREDIBLE!! The paint job is knockout! Really cool work and a great story telling piece!
Sorry been absent, been a bit busy, but managed to do a bit.
Now this is finished for the competition, but I would not say complete. Many bits of the painting I am not 100% happy about, and I want to add loads more details. All will get done eventually, but for now........
Sorry for big dump. Hope you like.
I am afraid this will be me going dark for a while, as I am trying to do a couple little jobs for friends, but moving house is very close and quite hard going, working 15 hour days, but I will be around, I promise.
As always I would love to know your thoughts on the piece.
the whole piece is awesomeness condensed... and...who has ever seen orks so cute...?...
you´re a brilliant converter mister!
i wish you best of luck for the comp...and godspeed in your move mate...i know this will be hard³...if not even more...i cross my fingers for better times... and that you don´t leave us all in the dark for too long...hopefully...
Looks great mate although if I can find it I have a technique saved for explosions which would look great for this
I love the action you have replicated and the sheer pain of the ork all those crazy grots swinging around with no care in the world well till they die from burning, explosions, falling or beaten to death by the ork if they survive the other out comes.
Hope the move goes ok I hate moving one of the worst and most stressful things in life
That's pretty darn amazing Cam. My only suggestion *might* be to make the exploding flames a little more flamier. Now I know that a gas explosion looks very much like you've modeled (round edged explosion) but the color of the flames and the color of the baloon are close enough to each other that the flames don't have quite the impact (or clarity) that they deserve. Perhaps making them "flame out" a bit, even though it's not technically correct... might give the fire a bit more visual impact.
Epic insane and completely orky!! Fantastic job cam, I haven't seen the other entries but I bet they are being pushed to the max by your entry! Good luck man
Thank you all so much, I really appreciate your comments.
Just posting here to say if you like the look of this you should see the other guys work, they are amazing, best place to see them and cast a vote is...
now this is a real joy to see you appearing here creative and productive again! been indeed way too long...(tho...i am not really in the position to say so at all...)
that tower looks cute! the moonface made from grey stuff? brilliant sculpt!
i see lots of protential for freehanding banners here...
my only question concerning the tower is...how did you do the tubes of the speakers?... cones are not an easy task...^^
well... i hope you´re reloading your batteries as much as can be! and that RL will hopefully be better soonish!
Cam that tower is awesome! I see Gitsplitta likes it too! you are a Mek at heart.
I hope RL is not getting you down, as they said in Galaxy Quest, 'Never give in, never surrender!" I find it simple yet effective when dealing with the Veterans' Administration or other such bodies who wish I would just go away.
shaso... that is the very system of any health care or social wellfare... they all want us dead the minute we reach the age when fulfilling their debts on us would be about to get cashed in by us.... i swear... if it wouldn´t be too loud and against the law... sometimes i fear they would hunt the eldery down.../sarcasm off...
First up a pic of my little piece of work for today.
These will be scenery scale iconography. Have an idea that will come to pass over the next few, these will be the masters for moulds.
Also gathered some pieces together, my thinking is to add a "DJ" in the centre of the stand of the tower.
@ Vik Thank you sir, nice to see you postinng again at least. Designed to give Gits as much freedom to express himself as possible. The "Speakers" I heated up a tube and pushed it on to a former. The former was one of those card/paper smudge sticks for sketching, I use it regularly during sculpting. Seemed to work well. And yes that is one of the many pieces I molded for my blimp. Just happens to be the size Gitsplitta asked me to make the base.
@ Gits Really glad you like it, watch this space.
@ Shas Thank you. And I try and roll with the philosophy of "dont let the bastards get you down!!" Works most of the time, but RL is just pretty full on at the moment, I just could do with a couple things falling into place and I will be ok, but as always life aint that kind.
Thank you all for your comments, nice to see I can still get your attention. See you soon.
whoa....these sculpts looks very cool... very crisp too...i knew you worked as a confectioner...but on that scale your sculpting is as sweet as candy too^^
and mind to take a pic of said former?...i can´t picture it for myself...but the effect was very good too... straight t the point recognizable...
and i love the DJ idea... that´d be a cool idea! i probably would choose the grt as DJ for comic relief...but guess the gorka morka ork would do too...

Yeah, I hear you on that one! The Veterans Admin needs to pony up as they gave me no rad badges in Germany. (And I worked with the oldest and less safe most potent yield warheads back then.)

Cam I hope it all sorts itself out, ( I find at times things do, not as fast as we'd like, or the way we would either, but sometimes they do)
Automatically Appended Next Post: And nice stuff to gaze upon!
following on from my previous comments.... I just saw those banners on the Orky tower.... they look really cool! Is that just thin plasticard warmed and warped?!
Been wanting to back the Maelstroms Edge Kickstarter. both because its great looking models and it is the Dakka boys done good.
Bloody can't.......I don't have a bloody credit card. Only found out today. was all set, pay day. Go on pay for the boxset. BOOOM!!!!! requires a credit card. Can't tell you how bummed out I am, was really looking forward to that. And was hoping to get in on Bones III soon also. I guess they are all credit card paymnets? What the hell is wrong with Paypal people?
I am really a bit surprised at no Paypal, just seems a bit strange.
The good news is the wonderful Gitsplitta has offered to help me out, so we have made arrangements and I sould be able to get my plastic crack fix come December ish. Which wil probably work out ok in the end.

i have learned that the hard way too when col. gravis and zinge did their kickstarter... sadly i wont ever own a credit card... well...
but i think the helpful hand of git is a very cool gesture!
a man should´t be kept from his plastic crack
Hmmm, if nothing else you could explore the ( probably crazy expensive with fees) option of pre-paid credit cards and debit cards.
I started a spreadsheet of all the minis I own that I want/need to paint. Ahem. I won't be buying anything new for, oh shall we say, a while. ( It's ~250 minis, but 20+ are alread done. Some progress. When half are painted, I'll think about maybe getting something new)
Prepaid is safe. you load money into the card, and all it can lose is what was put in. no overspending, no interest payments, more like a plastic money order.
Camkierhi wrote: I guess I ought to do that while I have the opportunity whilst packing. Scares me a bit though.
Oh, I did not include all of the minis on the spreadsheet, just the ones I want/need to paint. There are some IG minis that could be painted, some Rogue Trader orcs, a few other really ancient minis ( like Grenadier minis from the late '70's) and a bunch of Empire minis, which come to think of it could have use in other systems...
Packing provides a nice opportunity to sort and get rid off a whole lot of stuff. Not sure you can let it convey with the house though
You are correct Vik, it is for a display board, I hope Gits will take once I finish. He needs a 12" square box 3" high, swapable from Imperial to Ork. This is me trying it out. I just hope he likes it.
Re: Making a list of models you wanna paint... holy crap that's frightening. I made a rough list to populate a potential 365/365 challenge for the year and holy beans it wasn't even close to all of the stuff I *could* paint. I need to stamp this information on the inside of my eyelids so I know better than to buy more
Gotta question for you, how do you make the backs of your pieces flat? Do you shave down the imperfections or do you have another method? I've been having issues with exactly that on my own stuff. Do you have a flat chunk to cover the plastic as it dries?
Besides those questions your stuff looks awesome! I really love it.
@ WW, Thanks bud. On the moulds I usually make them deep so my pieces are usually at least 1mm thicker than I would really need, and I have a course grain bit of sandpaper (80 grit) stuck to a bit of board and sand them flat. This way if the mould was not perfectly level I have a bit of leaway to be able to level them up. I collect the dust and use it for basing so its not like it's completely wasteful.
werrrrlll....honestly i couldn´t refuse... that is some delicate piece! and well... i will shortly reveal my next project... it would fit like a glove...if you have the time to waste atm i would quickly upload some pics of mine and would update a dusty thread that is in desperate need for an update^^
Does get very easy to make way more than you need doesn't it.
some very nice casts you've got going there.
Don't forget Cam I'm holding on to your prize from the last LoER competition, just PM me the address you want it to go to, I've got your previous (current?) one somewhere.
Great work on the molds and wall sections . I'll be catching up soon, hopefully a city isn't done before I get my chance to read through the blog again.
