Ok pic dump, and a question that really needs an answer soonish.
Question: Jet flames. I want to make it look like the afterburners are on, that little blue lick of flame. Had an idea. its the first picture up. Please let me know what you think, I am unsure and will drop the idea for the competition.
The rest are pics of area you will have difficulty seeing once it's glued together. Tail section complete-ish, cabin section complete-ish.
As per usual I would very much appreciate feedback on this at this stage, any ideas and thoughts are greatly received, including criticism.
Thank you.

I quite like the flame effect. Looks good in the picture anyway, I suspect it looks different in real life as things like that tend to. I can't think of any ways to improve it, so works well.
Ooo, maybe I can. How about a smaller version of those flame things, half the length, 1/3rd the diameter placed in the middle of the larger ones and painted (I assume you painted it) a lighter blue colour (sky blue, almost white?). It'll look like the hotter heart of the flame... maybe?

Post by: Viktor von Domm
assuming it looks as the doc thinks it looks...that would be the way to improve the flame idea...
assuming... because... i cant really tell...we need other angled shots of that part...then we can fully speak our minds... but...i like that idea!... i am thinking airwolf instantly!!!
speaking of... what i want to add here is only one thing... apart from the middle section...(the big red part) there you should add some of your detail loving work!!! that is the only part that still looks a litle bland... but only from above as the underside again thanks to hazard stripes looks awesome...and maybe you could add a little something to the skids... what...i duno...
also... those barrels look awesome... your started yellow and i was a bit hesitant if one could pull it off convincingly with that starting point... bu you sir proved my heretic thoughts wrong! my hats off to you!
oh...and i have to ask... that main propeller... is that scratchbuuilt? or clever converted? marvelous by the way!!!

@Dr H. Thank you. I will take some more pics in a bit. I thought about the inner, I have now done it and not sure still, it's there and looks ok, but I think I need to work on it. Its a distraction at the moment.
@ Vik Ref. Flames see above. Thank you. Yes barrels I am happy with. I agree about the top red, got to come up with something. As to the skids, just you wait, if I pull it off.....
The main propeller was the one from the 1:48 Cobra. Mildly converted.
Off back to it, get some pics of progress in a bit. Thank you guys.

maybe you could make the flame look a bit more raggedy than even now? and get more of that blue foil inside that hole?
also... i see many armor plates that could use a lil drybrush of metal...specially on the rivets?
but it looks amazing... the smoke ...correction the burning oily smoke looks specially brilliant...
ad... i just realized those big cleavers on the skids... awesome... for that extra killy bit you never know might come in handy

Filled the Red at the top in a bit. What do you think?
Also you are right I need to go over the whole thing and patch up the paintwork. Some dry brushing and a bit of washing to be done yet. Then got to add a few more details.
And since I am a proud League member I may add a few more rivets yet also.
Got to work on the base soon too. 9 days left to finish this up. Could be close.

Update: Weathering, washes and drybrushing:
Ok here's a bunch of pics stage one of many of the weathering I am putting on this. Please point out any glaringly obvious silly mistakes. This is a wash of Skaven Brown all over after a drybrush of chainmail to highlight rivets and edges. I am no expert in any of this so please make suggestions, I am off to put a reddish wash on the whole thing.
I know it's not all there BTW. at this moment the guns etc come off, as does the whole tail, and the rotor blades. Probably leave it in bits for transportation.
And next is a vote, who do you want dying on the base ....
1 SM
2 IG
3 Tau
4 CSM
5 Eldar
If I get no votes I will probably go SM, my traditional victim.
Heres some pics......

Post by: Dr H
This is for the speed competition isn't it? So I would go for something that is also fast on the base, to show that your chopper is so fast it can catch and kill fast enemies.
Assuming it's a choice of troop units for the base, I say Eldar for that reason.

Update: More pics.
Thank you guys, not started base yet so time to have your say, like the Tau idea, and the Drs idea of something fast being caught.
As to progress.
Shot 1 is to show the red wash effect on the metal work, it's coming out ok, but your thoughts please.
The rest are definite spoilers as to the skids idea I have, just tak in place at mo, also kinda showing speed with the ropes trailing away....
As always your input is important to me, so please comment.

hmmmmm! lovley! how did you do those gunblasts? are these made from toothpics and sand? looks very good! totally convincing! you could have even added at the very tip the bullet! but as now it looks nevertheless perfect! this is a true ork vehicle! it has everything you could possibly ask and hope for... the orky glyphs on the big guns are from the WHFB orcs and goblins shield icons? good idea! I have these too... very useful...
the rope crew is super cool... the poses look so dynamic and I bet that wee poor fishface has already crappit it´s pants

@ Vik, Pics were with flash, but it is still a bit glossy. My entry pics will be with better lighting I hope.
Ok here are some pics of the base. Thoughts please.
Also decided to magnetise the guns. They can be easily removed and swivelled around this way.
Today is probably my last chance for this competition so expect lots of pics. Along with final entry by the end of today. I know I wont get another opportunity for daylight photos after today.

Ok next back to an old project.....The Arz-Arz Unz.
These guys are a purely modelling exercise. I am sure they would not be game legal. Orks with sniper rifles is not allowed. But I say why not. They will not be any good with them, but they mimic a lot and my lads are no exception. These guys are loosely based on the brotherhood pictures from assassins creed, You now the white hoodies and cloaks.
So here is the first lad. Your thoughts are needed. What do you think.

New project.
@ Vik Thanks. Yes usual scratch building for me. Not sure its long enough!!? And yes the head is not fixed, just stuck him together with tac to see how he looks, and get some thoughts.
@ Arakasi. Thank you. I kinda like the idea of a grot actually. Got to think about the length of the barrel. Will see what it looks like when an ork is holding the gun to shoot.
Also today ork trukk kit arrived, so I can start on a conversion I have promised Eternalhero1983, for his army. I asked if I could donate to the cause and he has requested a Grot monster trukk. I will not be painting it. Here's his blog if your interested.

Ok been working on monster trukk.
Cut chassis.
Think I will extend the height, so cut the axles. ( original for comparison).
Pinned a length of sprue in. I opted for 10mm extension.
Put a sleeve over for looks and strength.
Roughly placed in position.
Your thoughts please, and also should I go with the engine at the front or rear? I am thinking the over look will be similar to traditional monster truck's, i.e. pick-up ish.

62749
Post by: Dr H
Oh, I appear to have failed to comment after looking earlier.
I like the rifle, good job.
Monster truck is cool. I was thinking the other day that I hadn't seen any in 40k (in fact I'm going to add that to my list).
Good work on the chassis.
As for the engine, my first thought was front engined. But aren't real ones mid-engined, I'm not sure?
Mid-e' would be tricky to make look good though, so I would still go front engined.
46617
Post by: Wellpaintedstudios
Looking awesome Cam
I really do thank you again for the contribution to my project
I would have to say for the engine, being Orky/ Grot made, it to be some ridiculous rear of the truck. All monster trucks, in the American muscle style, the engine would be in the front of the vehicle. I see that since the Truck is Orkz and Grot made, they do not care much about safety, the rare engine would be an interesting twist. I can see an engine monstrosity with weird exhaust pipes protruding from the sides on the rear of the truck bellowing smoke with a horde of grots on the front holding on for dear life.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
I too think the engine should be in front of the trukk...
the current main problem I see with this build tho is that the kits own wheels will prove to be too small... for a true monster trukk you will want to get yourself bigger wheels...where... I have no clue... maybe slaughter a toy?
but I am eager to see where this is heading...
I have a template paper-version of a hummer truck if you want a different looking chassis...

Update to Monster trukk, with pics.
@ Dr.H Thank you. The rifle will be added to. Still working on those guys, in-between. As to engine, I think I am going with front. See below.
@ Eternalhero1983. Thank you and you are welcome, I am honoured to help. As to the trukk, well see below, and let me know, it's never too late to alter anything, and indeed once it's in your hands you can remodel all you like, I am cool.
@ Vik. Thank you and you are correct as always , however, due to the nature of the competition Eternalhero1983 is entering this in, I am afraid I have to keep it as much GW as possible, especially as he may wish to alter it once he has his hands on it, and I want to leave him some flexability.
@ KingCracker. Thank you. I tried to make it look natural, if you know what I mean.
@ Theo. Love the idea and thinking of trying to incorporate this somehow. Thank you.
@ bigfish. Thank you. I like to make them look like there is some action going on, rather than static, lined up waiting. Really happy I am getting close.
@ Dave Thank you I am honoured. High praise from the master himself.
Ok gosh thank you for all your thoughts, I am feeling really great now, thank you.
Update.
Well trial of engine placement. As I said above nothing is final, and all can have there say on anything I am doing here.
So first I need an engine. Now I thought about the engine from the trukk, and may yet use it, but no ork is going to let a grubby little grot have a nice motor like that so, how about the engine from a kan, with a bit of conversion....
So placing that on the running gear....
Then I decided to build up some of the front end. I will probably add some silly wheel arches later.
Going to leave it as at least two parts so it's easier to paint.
Please keep the comment coming, and your thoughts are greatly appreciated, good and bad. I am not sure if my bonnets too long.
I do have a question, what's the official line on material use for competition. Eternalhero1983 intends I hope to use this in his armies on parade contest, with the hope of making it to the demons. I do not want this contraption to let him down at all, so please does anyone know the % requirements? Have I blown it already? Post by: Camkierhi
Small update kinda:
@ Shas thanks.
@ Vik, Here is the driver as requested.
I took a Gorka Morka ork driver, and chopped him up a bit.
Comparison with original model. You can see I chopped his legs off. and his head off and carved a stump for the head to attach to. The arms are original, and not glued on to aid painting. He is maybe a little big for a grot but the seating position is pretty good.
Heres a different shot of the front. Thinking of adding a big airscoop to the top of the engine, not sure I want to enclose the bonnet? Maybe have a grot hitting it with a hammer instead.
I am not sure what else at the mo.
Oh and look what I found my son playing with.........don't know how he got the image, probably off the web. Bit scary really.
And thank you Vik for that link answer. Hopefully worked above.
And finally...... I won the competition with "Uwee". I am sooooooo honoured and proud. There was some amazing work by everyone involved, can't believe I won.
So here is a linked pic of "Uwee" so you can have a nice close look and maybe make my year and vote.
Thank you for looking.

Good work on the driver.
The truck is looking good, but the front wheels are now looking like they're too far back. Although it may not look as bad (not that it actually looks bad, I'm just having an English fail) if there was something to fill the space below the front of the truck, like bodywork or even a grot hanging on... Only a suggestion.
Congratulations on the win.
Your pictures are working and I have voted on the Uwee.

the lego mini looks a bit like an alien... nice out of the (lego-) box thinking of your son, not scary... you should be proud... i really don´t like peeps that always play with bricks and the re built their guides only... that shows a lack of fantasy... imagination... now that is somthing that really stays with you and helps you in other circumstances later on!
and as for the trukk... yeah a grot hammering away at the engine... that will be the winning ticket!
by the way... again to the driver... what arms did you use?
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
@ Vik The arms are the Gorka morka ones. They came with a steering device attached. And thank you. Congrats on getting 2nd with your amazing Grot Flyer.
@ Dr H. Thank you sir. I know what you mean about the front end.
I am not sure what to do. I was thinking of a couple wheel arches, and a ram/ dozer blade crossed my mind. Now thinking of having a grot hanging underneath tinkering with the engine, got to keep that baby running. Or maybe in a sling, acting like a front gunner, like in the WW2 bombers, but without the glass! Or do I just move the wheels forward a bit. Any thoughts on this are most welcome please.

65595
Post by: Camkierhi
I toyed with a fifth wheel and a six wheel lay out, I also thought of a track on the front, but it's meant to be a monster truck-ish design! They all kinda look cool but not right. I would prefer to have larger wheels, but I don't know if GW do larger, and a non-GW wheel would probably push it for the competition rules, not sure. I think I will build another one afterwards, with out restraint, just to see how far I can go.
Still can't believe I won, the other entries where so great. I love the comps because they really have pushed me beyond what I thought I could do. And it's all your fault Arakasi, your DA orks inspired me so much, and started something. I have found with the comps though that because of time restraints, you limit the end result. I dropped several ideas on the Uwee because I did not have time.

Thank you for the feed back. Update.
So spent this evening rummaging through bits boxes. Found these two guys, who I think would maybe look great, but I have a feeling it's against some law to chop up vintage models. I just can't bring my heart to cut them up....so the hunt continues. Last pic is rivet, heaven and hell. Taking forever but looks ok. Your thoughts?
3
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
Rivets look super good, but since you used super glue on plastic and cardboard, is there danger of them falling off??? And I think you aren't allowed to chop these models up for no possible reason whatsoever! I hope there is a law against this somewhere I would probably use a fighta bomma grot bit...or scratchbuild/kitbash one...
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thanks Vik.
There is no way I am cutting them up, will be kit bashing later.
As to the Glue..(This is for the general population, and not meant to teach anyone to suck eggs, especially people like Vik who are masters amongst men) I have had the odd rivet drop off in the past, but very few, and usually if I have tried sticking them on shiny card. I also very lightly dust the whole thing in Bi-Carbonate of Soda, which sets the super glue very quick and makes it more like a cement. This also has the side effect of the odd bit where it looks really corroded. I will also be coating the whole thing in PVA, at least one coat and this will further seal everything in place. So if after that it wants to drop off, it was never meant to be there in the first place. I used card for the texture, Should and could have used PC I suppose. But the aim is to get a rough surface. Not a shiny new feel.
Here endeth me spouting gak and trying to teach my betters to suck eggs.
Thank you for your time. Off to work now, can't wait to get home and get this puppy a pilot.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
The bi-carbonate of soda is it the same substance as is called baking powder? Brilliant and also unfortunately unknown before to me... So a big thank you for this cam... The coat of pva certainly works, tested and prooven long ago...
One other question tho...what's with that egg sucking??? Is that the recent bugs "bugging" your speach habbits?

Post by: bigfish
That is a beautiful metal grot you got there, and that rokit is looking sweet as well
9217
Post by: KingCracker
I can 2nd the rivets on card stock. I've done it many times and works rather well. Not to mention if they fall off, it just looks more random anyways. Keep up the good work
62749
Post by: Dr H
Good riveting Cam.
Yeah, any rivets that fall off can always be stuck back on or drill a little hole where they were and it looks like they really broke off (something I did on my hut's roof).
Vik: Baking powder is a mixture of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate, NaHCO3) and Cream of tartar.
"Sucking eggs" is just a turn of phrase. Means to teach people that already know better.
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thank you guys.
And thanks DrH perfect.
The saying goes "Don't try and teach Granny to suck eggs." Another words I was saying I do not wish to be giving any offence, if you already know these things.
As to the Bicarbonate of Soda...It is a brilliant trick, It nearly instantly sets superglue on any material. It does have a habit of building up a bit, but can be filed, sanded or chipped away after. And it is INSTANT. The one very important thing is, this is a chemical reaction and as such it heats up ALOT. You get a bit of glue on your skin and sprinkle Bicarb on there, you will burn yourself. So care should be taken. But for sticking plastic to plastic or metal or wood, it cannot be beaten. And as a side effect as I said before, for orks or even chaos, the build up can look a lot like rust and corrosion.
Update coming soon I hope.

Oh yeah! eyepatch head on the Marine, for the Mega armor nob I am torn between the horned helm and either of the two heads with the bionik bitz
62749
Post by: Dr H
For the Marine I would say either the headband or the eye-patch head. It depends on what he will be doing, as eye-patch head is the more active of the two.
For the Ork...hmm... not sure. Again, depends on the pose. Maybe do that and then decide what head fits...
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thanks for your thoughts, Here's the scene.

62749
Post by: Dr H
Ah, that changes things.
Eye-patch head
Is the ork being stabbed?
If not, then head 1 or 4
If so, then head 3 or 5.
That's probably the best I can advise on orks at the mo.
18980
Post by: Arakasi
Given Nerd's comp is about faces, I would go 3, 2, 1. Best for your diorama? 3, 1, 2. I guess I pick 3...
I think I use Ork head 4 on my Megaboss, and 5 is "standard" - I think I'd go with 2 - but then I do have Bloodaxe tendencies...
Not sure if I'm any help

Okay, that head on the marine will also work as it is screaming, I agree with comrade, right arm at the Orks' feet.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
whoa...what a cool looking model...
that ork boss is taking that whippersnapper to the bloody cleaners!!! and a half...bwahahaha...
i had a good look in detail ... and i have to say the marine face looks really in agony the way you painted it... blood tickling looks convincing...and the stuu´bbles of beard are very good looking...
i only have to ask... are the spots of whatever it is on the checkers of the shoulderpad on the ork intentional?...just checking... otherwise i deem that model very perfect...maybe something a bit more firey looking to the pivot flame of the flamer... but other than that... brilliant!
62749
Post by: Dr H
I too have had a close and critical look at the pictures. Can't see any issues with the modelling. Good job. 3rd pic down: Is that red on the bottom of the cable going to the flamer? May need a touch up with black. The Ork's face is fine, I see no problems. The marines face; His left eye looks like it could do with a touch up under it to make the black smaller and to match the other eye. Also, maybe a bone/flesh mix highlight on the T-zone (brow and nose). The blood, stubble, lower lip and teeth (looks like he's missing a tooth even) all good. On the marine, the VI on the backpack vents could be neater as could some of the highlights. But that's only visible under extreme close-up so I wouldn't loose sleep over those. I'm not sure on the flame of the flamer, but also not sure how to make it look better. And finally, the blood(?) coming out the Ork's stomach looks a bit too much like lava to me. Not sure if that's intentional though, so up to you (I assume you wanted it to look different from the Marines blood). Good Job Also: just to mention that I like the flame pattern on the Ork's feet.
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thank you gents, will look art those bits.
The idea of the orks belly, was indeed that the marines sword is melting its way in, so trying to look like molten metal, afraid my painting skills letting me down there.
The flamer tip, I am really not sure of, any ideas are very much welcome.
62749
Post by: Dr H
Ah yes, powersword + metal armour = molten metal. Lava, molten metal, both hot, both red and glowy. That works for me.

Post by: Littletower
As faces go, I'd say N° 3 for the human, and N° 1 (specially if you could turn the hair braid to the back, and bolster a charging-like look) or N° 4, to go along with the meched-up feel of the armour.
Either of them will give a good canvas for painting an expressive face!
Cheers.

Good Evening DakkaDakka
I am here to greet you all to my first attempt of a charity that will benefit those who are subscript to this blog and the families that hopefully this function can help.
Why am I doing this? What is my Purpose?
The Simple answer is “because I can”. Within the last year in a half I have been taking on projects, as you all know, Road to Armies on Parade which I have chosen charitable themes to advance the awareness of the topic at hand. I did not feel like I contributed enough on the Breast Cancer Awareness. I made the army colors and the pink ribbon to symbolize the theme of the army but added nothing to the cause. Now I am taking a small risk and adding more to the cause for this year by holding a charity event of the blog.
Charity? What charity?
I am holding the first Road to Armies on Parade Charity T-Shirt and Raffle to help out those who this cause. I will be taking orders for the T-Shirt of the month of October. All T-Shirts will be made to Order so sizes are not a problem.
Did you draw the Design on the T-shirt? Where are the T-shirts coming from?
The Answer is simple, nope. I had commissioned one of DakkaDakka own, grey_death, to draw the art work for the t-shirt and I am happy with the work that he had done to help out. I am purchasing the T-shirts through www.ooshirts.com.
How much will the T-Shirts cost me?
Each T-Shirt cost $20 per. This is for all Size S to 3XL. There is not a minimum on the amount of shirt per order. The $20 price will include the following: T-shirt, Shipping and Handles, and 1x Raffle ticket. Any and All Profits will be donated to OAR: Organization of Autism Research http://www.researchautism.org/. Due to the Printable Donation Form, all will receive a copy of the form and the Donation Receipt as well as a invoice from me.
What did I hear about a Raffle?
This event will also hold a raffle for some NIB Warhammer 40k items. The three large items will be random: NIB Landerraider, NIB Leman Russ, NIB Dread Knight, Plus a few smaller prizes such as Reaper Miniature, Gameszone, etc. You will be able to Purchase extra Raffle Tickets at the Cost of $5 per ticket. Drawings for the Raffle will be Monday November 4th. Only those who purchase T-shirt will be eligible for the extra ticket sales.
Can I win more than one prize?
One Raffle ticket, Once Prize.. Multiple Tickets, sky’s the limit

One thought;
The heavy box that the grot is dragging. maybe add some sand/gravel build up in front of it to look like it's digging into the ground and add to the "heavy" look of it. You could also add drag marks in a trail, but that's probably more work than it's worth.

Sorry to have neglected this thread.
Here's a little tutorial for you and an Nob to be going on with, feeling another big project coming on just not sure what at the moment.
So anyways, on my other stuff thread I have posted pictures of this guy....
And I have had some comments about the scimitar, so I thought I would do a little tutorial for it, especially as it shows how I do several of my effects, and can be used for many different things besides a big chopper.
So first up, 2mm plasticard. Here I have black, no odds if you use white or black, I do find however black is softer. Cut it to roughly the shape you want.
Now on the blade shave/whittle the cutting edges. This I did with my trusty scalpel. Please be careful. With practice you can be very neat with this, but this one is an ork big chopper so no need for neat.
Then attack it with your needle file. You won't want to do this for anything other than ork weapons I think. Vary the angle, and depth of the notches.
Lots of little scrapes along the back edge, to make it look like this has just been cut from the side of someones tank, rather than forged.
Attach the guard, now here I use superglue and dust it while wet with Bicarbonate of soda. 1) it instantly sets the glue, 2) it makes the joint look corroded.
Now add a handle if desired. (you maybe just sticking this to a hand, in which case not handle necessary.)
Next I roll out a bit of GS then wind it around the handle. You don't have to be too neat, because you then squeeze it down and scalped it all up.
And there you are one ork big chopper.
Now with these same techniques you can make armour plates etc for orks. And with some refinement and care you could use this to make any sword. Different pommels can be added, different shaped blades.
Well I hope this is helpful, I hope to do one on the rifle next, please leave a thought and thanks for looking.

Hi guys. Thank you for your thoughts. Yes it is a mighty big chopper.
Ok so this might be the last ork I ever paint, just seen Nerdy's orks and they are spectacularly brilliant.
So here is my latest.....

So needing some ork love.
Firstly thanks guys. Sorry for being so long away from this thread. Been busy on my other projects.
So I need to get me some orkishness....
A while back I saw this kit, in my local toy shop and I had some ideas, then I saw Wyrmalla do a nice model conversion on his blog, of a similar model. Had to go out and get it. My thinking is Grots. There used to be a scorcher model that was a bike with a trailer scorcher unit, was a good model, but I fancy updating it a bit. So here is Camkierhi's scorcher unit.....
The starting kit.
And WIP of the basics.
Thanks for looking.

Welcome sir, nice to see you.
I think that was kapok or what ever it's called, stuffing used in cushions and cuddly toys. Soaked it in black wash, then stretched it out to dry, the other I use is expanding foam torn apart to form clouds, then paint as desired.

that scorcher you mentioned... I sent that one last year I think to dave... was a very nice model...your conversion looks very good too...specially since it is been driven by a grot... got me a soft place inside me somewhere for everything grotrelated^^
that other vehicle...now I am eager to see what you do with that...it screams ork already...! Automatically Appended Next Post: oh...by the way... I have a 1:48 stealth bomber still on sprue... could something like that take your fancy?

Fantastic conversion! Yeah Vik sent it to me. Although it was driven by a very small Ork, rather than a grot
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
funny that you say this... the bikers of the trikes and halftracks are more like even uglier catachans where scale is concerned... ever noticed? you could swap arms and legs and no one really could tell...
48594
Post by: dsteingass
I've actually used some of those old plastic GorkaMorka era arms (as well as Plastic Munda arms) on my Catachans! The fists are too big, but the arms work well
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Indeed, this is a Gorka morka body, got a bunch used, badly put together. I cut the head off, and stick on a Grot head and it does ok for a driver. Usually a bit lanky for a standard grot, but as these are sat for driving, it works out ok. Why the heck they did Gorkamorka as a different scale I have no idea.
@ Vik Other vehicle? Do you mean this one, this is the half track. I am going to have to back over my own blog now to look and see.
Thank you guys, does me wonders to get any comments at all.
Ok some close ups of the driver.
Still a little wip on the actual driver, as always you see things in pictures you don't notice otherwise.

For me, converting the Supacats would be up armoring them for my Khadrovians
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Well, upon proper thought the supacat coyote in 1:48 scale might be a little small if made up as full transport model for IG, that grot driver is probably close to the same size as a standard IG, as Dave and Vik where saying earlier. So it would be pretty cramped in there. Having said that If you could cover it somehow, and taking in to account 10 SM in a rhino!!!! It's probably a pretty good transport for a platoon. And it's cheap compared to GW transport, and would look more like urban transport.
Well guess I will give you some updated pics of my scorcher conversion on this chassis.
Well thanks, and please continue to leave your comments.

Thank you, means a great deal to me.
So I got the bug now, so still using some of that Coyote Kit...
And just for kicks, (and totally not wanting to teach anyone to suck eggs) a little step by step, hope it helps some of you.
1. Tracks.
First cut a length of styrene square tube to the length desired, minus a bit for the round ends. These are a round tube of the same dimension as the square, cut in half.
Glue the rounds on the ends of the length of square. Then cut a piece of styrene (I used a thin bit) score it and "chip" it with a file. And a couple thin cuts off a round tube.
Next glue that together. this has given you an enclosed track section. I think this looks good, especially on vehicles operating in sandy conditions. I know it is not the norm, and is cheating, because I have not made a bunch of boogies and springs. At the top of the picture you can see the simple track treads I have made from rectagular pieces of PC and small lenghts of half round styrene.
Stick it on and you have a track section.
Repeat and join with cross members.
Under the bed from the kit.
2. Bonnet/cab.
Cut a piece of PC ( this is 1.5mm thick stock being used.) to the desired shape. Use the off cuts to attach "ribs" to the base. Mine are angled to give a better shape.
Attach a bulkhead, and side panels. trim these up. I always tend to glue on a larger piece then when set, cut and trim back to disred edge.
I have added extra contours to my bonnet.
Really sorry skipped a few photos at this stage, got carried away, but basically...
Stuck a top on the bonnet, and trimmed as before. Added some scoring and chips. Added a ridge down the centre of the bonnet, for effect, with half round. Stuck the Cab and Bonnet to the rear section, then added the front wheels. Made an exhaust, and a hinging door for the driver. Added a roll bar. Some prop shafts. and this is where it is at right now.
Now I will be adding lots to this and trying to decide if it is transport or gun carage. Goblin crew on way, already started driver. Also going to do a nice big radiator grill.
So your thoughts are very much appreciated, and suggestions are more than welcome. Automatically Appended Next Post: Woot 20 pages.!! Big for me. Nothing for you big boys out there.

Post by: Camkierhi
@ Littletower. Thank you.
@ Shas. Well dude you will have to hurry up and get ALL those guards painted up, then you can move on to the proper army.
@ mxwllmdr. Thank you, and indeed I have made triangular track sets by just making a simple frame work first, very similar method. I have not been too neat with this because it's ork, but this could be applied to several other armies, systems.
@ Gits. Thank you, Just glad to help people out.
Thank you guys, I really appreciate the comments.
Any thoughts on a use for this one! I originally was going for a counts as buggy, with a gun on it, but now thinking I might drop a couple of Dr H's wonderful boxes in the back full of ammo, it could count as a mobile objective. Maybe a small machine gun just for self defence, mind you an ammo truck with a burna sounds interesting!!!

I always thought Fenders were Bumpers rather than the wings, I could be wrong?

Post by: shasolenzabi
Fenders go over the tires, bumpers are the bars across the front and rear from wheel to wheel
Rear bumpers
Front
Fenders
So Cam was indeed correct calling that bit a fender.

Ooo, I like that little steering wheel in the background, where'd that come from, the tank kit?
Boxes look good.
What did you think of the instructions?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I think the model is looking spectacular Cam. I don't know if you plan things out ahead of time or just cobble everything together as you go... but the end result is just fantastic!
... and I'm not sure I get the "pants" reference... i.e. why that would be funny. I assume it's based off of "pantaloons" or some such.
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
Thank you guys.
@ Dr H Instructions where good but un-necessary. Everything about them is brilliant.
@ Gits. We refer to Underwear as pants. ie underpants, and what you call pants are trousers. So when you say pants we giggle because to us you are refering to shorts. (I think.) Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and vague idea then cobble together as I go. This one is a vague idea of an old truck come halftrack, orkified.

Gitsplitta wrote:... and I'm not sure I get the "pants" reference... i.e. why that would be funny. I assume it's based off of "pantaloons" or some such.
It's due to the mix-ups possible with you putting your pants on over your underwear and us putting our pants on under our trousers...
e.g. A conversation about how Superman wears his pants...
Or think of the phrase "getting caught with your pants down"... that means a lot more this side of the pond...
Ok, it's not all that hilarious...
65595
Post by: Camkierhi
And Dr H, the steering wheel is from the coyote kit.
62749

Cool. Yeah, I thought the boxes would be largely self explanatory (a box is a box), but you have to cater to all.
Everything about them is brilliant. Thanks.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Funny... we do call underwear underpants as well (though underwear can apply to pants, shirts, bras, etc.). So we have... "under" pants, and "pants" (which I guess are really "over pants". We also use the word trousers... but it's kind of dated terminology... probably more common 70+ years ago or in rural communities.
