@king cracker, I think I'm going to go with just eyes and smokestacks for now, tested the gut, but just didn't look right.
@dr. H, tried the purple, but just didn't feel right.
@dsteingass, I'm loving how its turning out. Was afraid to start on it, glad you goaded me into using an airbrush, because it got me motivated.
Here's current glowy standard.
Thinking it will get the devastator chevron on the upper arm, the arm has a pointy part to it the will fit it nicely.
Also thinking the yellow stripe on the shoulders should disappear as well.
Still undecided on the chest shield, thinking yellow again instead of red or black.
Almost done with the blocking in. Next will be testing a lighter yellow on my stripper pole marine to see if that helps. Also thinking of blue edge highlights on the black.
@dave, yes the averland sunset covers the black pretty well. I picked up a couple more of it to make sure I'd have enough for the project, but the first one was really thick (clumpy), one is regular and one is runny. Yeah GW quality control.
@kc, well I think all black would tie in better with the troops.
@really not enjoying the stripe, give me good ideas as to what to put on the two sides and I'll think about it.
@graven I don have any turquoise to try, I'll think about it though.
@ill see what I can find and try it on some victims
Got an idea while painting the second big gun. What about doing a counts as inquisitor force with a big Titan for back up. Nah, I'll just paint some of the dream forge eisenkern troopers if I ever have storm trooper allies. O maybe Hesse guys can be my scouts.
Abbadon black, averland sunset base, yriel yellow on top with a wash of gryphon sephia.what o you think?
Edit: this scheme just reminds me of Batman. One issue talks about him having the bright yellow bat symbol on his chest because he wants his opponents to shoot where he has the most armor. Maybe the trick works, maybe not, but my guys'll find out.
If I may offer a humble opinion...
The shoulder stripe, may I suggest adding in a pinstipe of black, just one each side, perhaps 2 millimetres into the existing stripe.
Also if I may ask a question; does your user name refer to the Christian radio station? Or perhaps it is a reference to theophany - the act of divine revelation? Or perhaps it's a literal translation? theo being god and phone being sounds.... so perhaps the voice or word of god?
I hope neither the suggestion nor the question are intrusive.
@the guern, thanks for stopping by, and don't worry about offending me. The pinstripes is a good idea, I'll have to think it out. Might even become a rank insignia of sorts. As for the user name, it was the name of my marine chapter that I was building, which will get repainted as the Scythes of the Emperor. They were called Theophony, which is the physical manifestation of God. In the ld testament when God would come down "in person" it would be a Theophony, or Avatar if you will. My chapter was based on a terrible idea that hey were the 2nd chapter the emperor made, one of the two lost chapters. The primarch came to their planet and was seen as a savior. The people he raised up to marines become likenesses of him his Theophony. They were annihilated because they spoke of religion and the coming of the "Father"(emperor) who would bring them all into his new kingdom. The Emperor gave he primarch a chance to change his ways, but he wouldn't, and was "cast out"/ excommunicated out of he emperors light. Ten thousand years later he returned with his army to terra, and the high lords have reinstated the marines as the Theophony, but the primarch is held at terra until his father awakes and forgives him. None of the other chapters know of heir heritage, just think hey are a penitent chapter that has returned from their exile. I had 20+ pages written out, but that's the gist of it. Now with he new dex coming out I decided to scrap it and go another route.
@dave, maybe on the next one, this one might get a little hazard stripping here and there, but nothing like that.
The Mortis leviathan should be out soon with its clawed fist. With the articulation of these I could make a football for them and they could pose in place.
Edit:
@ruglud, the fact that I can get 20 dreamforge troopers for LESS than 5 stern guard or the same as 10 tactical and the leviathans are cheaper than GW super heavies should push people In The right direction. Mark just needs to get his game out there, or use someone else's to proxy.

Indeed. also publicize what his bases will look like...
cormadepanda wrote: The levithan is a model i tried several times to get a hold of, and couldnt.. :(
Your paint looks great Theo.
@comradepanda, thewarstore.com carries them, had them in stock last week. Since Neil price matches I'd see if he'd match miniature market who are out of them for their $90.00 instead of $120rrp. Thanks @Galorn, were you needing pics of the bases, or I could send you some of his. Leviathan base is a 6" space inside the lip, the regular troops base is a 1"internal, the support weapon base is same internal as top of a GW and same footprint, the bike/beast handler base is the same width inside the lip as the base of a GW 25mm base, and its length is 2 5/32"(really strange). You can see the base design on the back for the company logo.
Got a supply drop last night. Ordered when I was torn between doing iron hands, salamanders, or scythes. But I should be able to still use them whatever. They are watch bits, all sorts of gears, and cogs. It was a few dollars, but the sizes are great for necromunda machinery.
@vik, listen to dave @dave, right where mine came from Tried a glowing paint scheme on the back of the shield. It has circuitry like the sword does, and less noticeable, I'm going to have to YouTube something because it looks bad.
Also a few years back I bought a large paper punch which had a tactical arrow and one that was the devastator chevron. I used it to punch out plastic card. The chevron one broke quickly and the manufacturer doesn't make them anymore, but I had a few left over so I could use it as a template for this on the arm.
First coat down, it will eventually be white, but off to the grandparents I go.
@vik, the tactical symbols on the scythes of the emperor are all white, so the grey is just a base to build up on. See below.
@comradepanda, tried a few effects, I'm not good at any of them, but I think I got one that will work. See below.
Got back from grandparents and threw some paint. Here's the final chevron, and the plasma effect. Let me know what you think, if you have a better idea please say so.
Plasma Glow is badass! That color needs a dark armor contrast, that works very well!
Thanks dave, all the metals still need to be hit with bottled awesomeness.
Edit: wanted to do a pic with cotton ball smoke and the lights, but we don't have any cotton balls. All we have are the pads, and I have no clue where the steel wool is hiding. So you get a pic with wadded up paper towels shoved in the stack, you get the general idea of the storm headed your way.
Well before I screw up the Titan by changing the yellow to a brighter color I figured I should test it on other models first.
Painted up a rhino, still in base colors, but liberally dry brushed yriel yellow over the averland sunset. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Now I'm dreading doing it to the Titan. For now I think he can stay the color he is. After or king at the grandparents yesterday I realized why the color looked so familiar together and no I wasn't scythes of h emperor. It was caterpillar heavy equipment. Makes me think about keeping the color and writing "Big Cat" on the Titan.
You may want to add a bit of shading (an orange/red wash perhaps?) before thinking too seriously about highlights...
Unless you're doing the thing with highlights, wash and more highlights...
Or just ignore me as my paints work differently...
@ Shaso, well it doesn't talk much, so......
@ Dr. H. Just blocked in so far, no washes or highlights yet. will consider those next, but want to get the base colors right first.
Updates might get more space in between as school has started back up. I have an appointment with a counselor on Monday to review where i'm at and what classes I need to complete the bachelors degree. I really need it to get done, most jobs around me require that level education to make any sort of a decent salary.
@ Shaso, They never were primered, I never used it on plastics. And my chapter was grey painted. Yes I paint my grey plastic guys grey .
Unfortunately my airbrushing skills failed again. I think I mixed the paint too thin, and combined with it clumping ruined a pot of GW overpriced paint with nothing to show for it. My compressor also was running for like an hour and barely built up enough pressure for 10 minutes of work . Oh well other things to do today, including a football season kickoff party at my pastors house. Hope someone scores with a slapshot
Amazing work! I have one question for you. I went to http://www.iplasticsupply.com and noticed that they have .030 White 32 @ 12" x 12" for $16. Does that mean its 16 sheets? Sorry, I'm kinda dense but if its true I will order a lot of plastic from them.
@davespil, it is 32 of the sheets for the $16.00 which is a great buy, but shipping is a killer. If possible buy multiple, it will save you cost overall. I ordered the .030, but I would probably get the .040 if I order again.
Also even though they are listed as 1x1 tiles they wind up being slightly smaller just FYI.
Current paint standings. Didn't get the compressor going this morning, so out came the brushes.
Yellows are done with two layers and a wash of lamenters yellow. Black is still just basic black. What looks like white is currently only celestra grey. Metals to go yet, along with highlights. Football game went late, I'm going back to bed for a few hours.
Edit: No rest for the weary, couldn't sleep, just laid there and finally turned on the T.V. also broke down and ordered the Space Marine Codex, my first hardcover codex but ordered it from Neal at thewarstore.com and got 20% off. Still with shipping its $53.xx which is stupid, but better be great quality.
Also forgot to mention the tank turret will be getting painted yellow on the cowling , sensor, and barrel tip. The stormbolter will also be yellow. Undecided on the Hunterkillers for the rhino chasis though, should they be yellow or black. My weapons are going to be yellow on the troops, so I figured I's stay that way on the vehicles.
@kc, I got lots of possible junkas for you @dave, it is a nice yellow, I really need to start highlighting to see how to make it pop more
Taking the kids to an amusement park. Got free tickets for parking, entrance and a buffet dinner, otherwise we'd be looking $200.00 easy for the 5 of us. Before anyone got up I was able to get this done.
Got some of it done yesterday, but was tired, 10hours of sleep later....still a little worn, maybe it's not allergies bothering me.
@ruglud, thanks @dave, no cheese fries, but had plenty of fun.
On a side note just back from six flags itch the kids, thankfully we got free tickets saved $260.00, but still lunch for five was 87.50 . The best part was taking pics of all the amusement park rides weathered metal look . Especially the line up to batman ride. They had subway tunnels made of corrugated steel.....with hazard stripes and huge rivets everywhere.
I'd post pics, but the mods would eat them up, and I haven't created a photo site. We have an eighties party to go to in a few hours, sounded fun until I realized I dress like the eighties everyday. I was born in the 70s, but was a child in the 1970s with all the cool toys. No cool stuff update today.
@ dr. H, I've tried that, and some stay around, while others were modded. Watch that Alpharius guy....no the other Alpharius @ruglud, the family enjoyed the log flume ride the most, followed by the scooby doo creepy swamp ride.
Unfortunately I'm too long in the legs, and couldn't go on three of the big rides as the locking bar couldn't engage on two of them, and the third 'batman' my shoulders couldn't fit under the restraints. One of my twins is just too short to ride the fun rides, she's the daredevil and would do any of them, my son was too frightened to do upside down rides, and the oldest would do any I would do, but when I couldn't fit she wouldn't go alone.
They are great parks, but expensive. Tons of fun things to do, luckily it was a quiet weekend so the longest we waited in line was ten minutes at the scooby doo ride. If you come to any of them plan am all day event, just pack up when it's lunchtime get your hands stamped and go to a local restaurant, then come back for more. Also they do concerts during the summer so sometimes you can find really good events.
Depends on what kind of highlights you were going for...
You can tell it's been highlighted when compared to the black side of the tank. It's subtle enough to be classed as realistic and I think it's at the sort of level that I stop at.
But they would need to be brighter and more defined to be called "extreme edge highlights" (which should be said with a gameshow hosts voice ).
You could step it up a level by blending the black to the grey edge, but that's difficult to do well and has minimal returns for the effort involved.
Be a little bolder with the edge highlight. If it's too sharp, don't panic, just mix a Glaze from your black (more Thinner than paint, but not a wash) and cover it all, that should tone down your highlights if they are too stark.
@Vik, I'm so glad your back, hope everything is good with you my friend. It is highlighted, but I think the wash dulled it too much.
@Dr. H, I think I'll stay at his level, maybe no wash afterwards, it will give a brighter edge, might get to it tonight.....late.
@dsteingass, yeah it will be bolder without the wash. Maybe black wash first hen the highlights.
Like I said later I'll redo the turret without the wash, highlights only. Have bible study then church his morning I'll noon, then he ire has choir practice at 5pm while I learn some more about he sound and light systems at the church. Then more bible study tonight till about 8pm.
1980s party last night was fantastic. I went with my jeans tight rolled, collars(2) popped, my sweater hanging around my shoulders like a cape and had on the max headroom sunglasses .
I think I was only upstaged by our music pastor who had h whole don Johnson thing going. He bought a white suit on clearance this week, grew just enough stubble, and wore the silver reflective sunglasses. All he needed was. Shoulder holster, a Ferrari, and hair to be a stunt double.
One of the other guys wore a hat with the hair attached to look like the GNR guitarist, forget the name of he guy , and one o h hosts had on a homemade hat to look like the ones in Devo's Whip It video .
1980s karaoke lasted only a minute o two until they started with the screaming sheep music videos hilarious.
well...since my new shiney mobil returned to me...lurking often seems so easy^^... thus i see more than i post... never have been that much away from all of ye
As promised, a little late, but here's the highlight without the black wash. What's your opinions? Also he yellow is completed on this piece, but the metals could use a null oil or black wash.
@shaso, where should I do the second highlight? The black area is highlighted with German grey, then again with celestra grey, should I o a third highlight? Or are you speaking of the yellow area?
@dave, thanks, I wasn't sure i got the creases right or not.
Frustrating day trying to get school stuff taken care of. Only need 6 classes for my bachelors degree, but two classes I need aren't being offered within an hours drive of here in the whole next year. Those two courses need to be taken before. Can take the other four , I hate this .
@KC, I looked at their online options as well, MBU doesn't have any of those classes as online during that time period either, and the two junior colleges are either fully booked for the one being offered, or don't have them scheduled. One is a higher course level as well, so wouldn't be offered at a 2 year college.
@Shaso, I haven't highlighted the yellow at all , and probably won't. The black has two highlights, but no wash done to it, that's why I'm wondering which part your talking about.
News on the dreamforge front, wave 2 should be shipping end of next week , which means retailers will be getting the mortis versions, and maybe I can scalp a scythe from someone. I haveall the other weapon options coming for mine. They are also shipping the 15mm guys which should be a beautiful proxy for dreadnights.
Think I've decided to make weapons black for the majority, but red ccw for veterans. This might change how the Titan gets painted as I made the gun arms yellow, but didn't like that on the marines.
Think I've decided to make weapons black for the majority, but red ccw for veterans. This might change how the Titan gets painted as I made the gun arms yellow, but didn't like that on the marines.
What I'm about to say will force you to decide if you're going to keep them red or not.
@skalk, yeah he's back, someone has to keep dakkadakka going in your abscence.
@kc, thanks, though I love ketchup and detest mustard the yellow will stay and we'll say goodbye to the red.
@dave, now I'm just hungry.
Took some time away from the computer (online class), and worked on the scythes.
I've got a few touch ups to do on the highlighting, but he weapons will also need to be sorted out. I never had a copy of their rules, but the new codex should get to my house tomorrow. Got this weeks school work done, so hopefully I can do other stuff this week, like read the codex.
Reminds me of the colors of the penal force in Red Dwarf, the Canaries! Always sent in before anyone else, to test the danger level of a situation they are!
I hope this latest missive finds you and yours well?
The grey'blue fronts to the engine manifold are something I find very pleasing, I suspect it's to do with an aesthetic contrast between that and the (lovely) yellow. May I ask whether the air intakes of your assault marines' jetpacks will be done similarly?
With Kind Regards,
The Guern
Edit:
My apologies, on second glance I see that the marine on the furtherst right does indeed have his intakes painted in grey. This also looks great - The Guern
@vik, I think the reds going to get painted black instead. Maybe a special red one here and there, and those ill make darker for you.
@shasho, one of the best shows ever.
@the guern, I liked the grey also, it blends well because its the top highlight on the black. Unfortunately I had painted white over it before ou posted. I think the white helps make it pop even more, but here's a picture to get everyone's impressions.
Also had hit the yellow with white edge highlights, let me know your thoughts on those as well.
I was hoping to get more done today, but I forgot that its Wednesday, so off to the grandparents I go. Hopefully the codex will be on my doorstep when I get home.
Yea I didnt want to come off as jerk sounding, some people like yellow and red together. But that comment always seems to make the ones that dont, realize they dont Though Hulk Hogan made a lot of money with that color scheme
@dave, thanks @kc,no worries, I know orks have troubles expressing themselves @dr. H, thanks @vik, that's such a great idea.....bad ass one could even say , too bad there's not a completion going on where I could use it .
No seriously, such a cool idea for space marine pro wrestlers . I really need to stay out of the competition, but just think.
Pro wrestlers, one from each of the marine chapters(can't tell if I should o loyalists or chaos guys)
Mr. Perfect- ultramarines/
Hulk hogan- imperial fist/
American dream dusty Rhodes (dad)- iron hands/iron warriors (bionic elbow )
Jakes the snake Roberts - /alpha legion
Undertaker- blood angel (death company)/word bearer
Four horsemen-death guard , world eaters, emperors children, and thousand sons.
The rock-black legion (abbadon)
Stone cold- white scars (common he just screams biker dude)
Sting-raven guard???
Must resist..... And changes will happen of course.
You've forgotten my favorite: rowdy piper...
I think this could work...
But you gave me another idea... Four horsemen of the apocalypse... As bikers... I think its inevitable...
Must not get distracted, someone lose must make the wrestlers, it won be me .
Had a few minutes and wanted to finish off a few more bases. I should have enough done fore my cunning plan tomorrow .
The red thingy is a base support for a column or a hatch.
@graven, I forgot a ton of old guys, he could also be nurgle as he'd toss them into a cage to "rot". His stance is similar to the nurgle fantasy character anyway.
@vik, I came to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum.
@dave, speaking of kilts....Do you know how many canaries can fit up a Scotsman's kilt? Depends on the size of the perch oldie but a goodie.
I need to find some Infantry with simple knives and rifles and pistols, no special weapons, no heavy weapons, Penal Legion with yellow fabric uniforms and black armor over the yellow outfits, they will be sent into the area first to see if the enemy is there or not. They will be,,,,,,,The Canaries!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Exploding collars a must as well!
@vik, I thought we all knew that already.
@shaso, just make sure to carve one head from sprue, that way you can have kryton, doesn't matter ho bad it looks, cause he is ugly as sin anyway.

LOL! An illegal AI experiment sent to die as just a penal legionnaire! I will also need to have one with an "H" in silver in his forehead, and Cat, and Lister with a chili and egg chutney sandwhich in one hand, or a tin of vindaloo
Well shaso if your gonna do it, do it right and make an Ace . You could even make him for the badass competition. Just make sure the rimmer gets a sign stuck to his back saying smeghead, or kick me!
Theophony wrote: Well shaso if your gonna do it, do it right and make an Ace . You could even make him for the badass competition. Just make sure the rimmer gets a sign stuck to his back saying smeghead, or kick me!
Ace would require a gold jump/flight suit and sunglasses, "Smoke me a kipper! I'l be back by breakfast!"
Craig Charles who played Lister has an excellent show on Radio 6 where he plays funk and jazz, i am sure you creative americans can find a way to listen to it; it's very much worth the effort (like wise Robert Llewellyn's (Kryten) carpool which is I believe free on Itunes).
Theo, I wonder if I may ask a question? The Dust tactics Quosenne Huts you have look fantastic and I'm about to invest in a set, but have you used/bought/seen their tennement buildings? Do you have an opinion on them? They look interesting to me but not sure how well they scale with heroic scale miniatures?

Ask Dstein I seem to remember seeing one in his thread
@The guern, I bought the dust tactics expansion called operation: Cerberus. You get a three story tenement building in the box along with two special characters for a better discount. They are perfect scale for warhammer, and can flex a little higher o lower scale and would just be seen as architectural design choices. They are nice and hefty pieces the inside is not detailed though, but would allow for great detailing like dsteingass has on his current buildings. Also miniaturemarket.com usually has pretty decent discounts on the dust stuff. If you check their deal of the day often you can get some really good deals as well. Not sure of international shipping rates as hey are about 30 minute drive from my house.
Here's some pics, you can see the special characters next to a dreamforge trooper and my leviathan before painting.
Here's a pic of one type of wall next to a necromunda bulkhead.
Here's a shot from the book showing what comes in the operation:Cerberus box. You get enough to make a one story tenement house and a two story tenement. You could make three, but they only give you two doors.
Hope that helps. More pics in my gallery under other companies, most dust stuff is on page 2.
@dave, she'll get her revenge after the bombs drop dave. When you come out of stasis her descendants will be in charge. Then who do you thin will be the smeghead @shaso, don't worry, I'm sure she's well taken care of aside from the occasional sure gluing to the floor or catching he falling exacto knife. I for one can't wait to come out of stasis to work o my new canine overlords. Unless they are controlled by poodles.
Pro wrestling marines idea is up for grabs for whoever wants to do them. I might have an idea that will help me stay on my marines and still compete in he bad ass competition. Will be trying to flesh it out today.
Oh and for humor sake.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, I went and entered the bad ass competition, here's a look at my entry.
The giant scythe is the standard for their banner, the blade is ceremonial, but the standard is carried into battle and into the heart of he enemy.....position. Here he is attacking the genestealer that is tearing apart a fallen terminator, one of the few remaining from the tyrannies invasions.
Well, guess the badass is going over like a .....was going to say brick, but vik got comments on his bricks , o well.
Threw some paint yesterday for a little while, but realized photos were really blurry, will retake them shortly. Also GW cannon has the scythes terminators being all yellow.....not sure about that, would like to continue the pattern since I have it on my Titan. I might make it where special terminators and veterans are all yellow, but not sure yet. This guy also lets me branch out into painting nids. I had a nid army years ago, but sold it after third edition, don't think I'll go back to it unless genestealers become what they should. I think I'm going to do a hive fleet behemoth color for these guys, or at least a variant there of.
Like you I suspect that all yellow terminators will not look as dapper as your base scheme. If I were you I am sure that I would stick to your current scheme. I am confident that you can come up with a sufficently fluffy reason is you should want to, perhaps it's a particular campaign livery?
I must confess that I'm not sure about the length of the scythe... mayhaps if her were using it as a polevault to leap over tyranid no.1 whilst firing at tyranid no.2.
Well the Nids are supposed to be the next 40k codex done. I'd imagine they will fix the Genestealers so they don't completely suck like they do currently. I can tell ya my wife was rather pissed about how gakky they became in 6th considering how many she had. Let me tell ya.... being out swarmed by Genestealers friggin sucked, because she really only need a couple to make it to combat to kick faces in lol
@kc, that's why space hulk was so good, cause the stealers could rip apart termies. If they get lose its game over man game over.
@the guern, yeah I'm going to stay with the yellow and black scheme on the termies. The scythe is the standard pole, so it needs to be giant, not really intended for combat, but will become an improvised weapon when ammo is depleted.
@ruglud, thanks. Never doubt a marines toughness if he's carrying the chapter banner, especially into combat. Was unsure o helmet less as that goes against everything I believe with marines, but as I told vik on the competition page. Bad asses don't wear helmets
Well more painting as I woke up early this morning.
Full scene
Billy bad ass, the nid cowboy....yea haw!
Close up, I've never done faces, much less skin before.
@bama, I'd love to do guard, just too many bodies to paint to only have on the board one turn @shaso, thanks, I'm really digging the look myself, and I guess that's what matters.
Well painting is happening more and more. Also if you didn't see it in the bad ass blog, I added the banner to my guy so maybe the pole will look less like a weapon and more like a banner pole like it should.
Then back to the Titan, with deciding to make the weapons all black it stood there starring at me with two yellow arms, I think if it was loaded here wouldn't be anymore added to this blog . So painted the right gun arm all black. And added a matching chevron to it as well.
Then figured I should finish up the face, shoulders and top with the highlights.
I still need to work on some tactical symbols or army badges for it, I'm thinking of painting "sotha" on the black stripe that is on the top. Sotha was the home world for the scythes before the nids came over for breakfast.
Next it was time to give the body it's second yellow coat, this time the yriel yellow. It's also gotten its wash since this pic has been taken.
Next up is to highlight the black on the gun arm and legs, and the center chest shield as well.
I keep forgetting to post picks of the back of the beast to show off the cool power plant. The kit comes with the smokestacks, but I also had the cooling plant from the kick starter as well. But the archaic smokestacks fit the 40k universe better I think.
Wife has a football game to coach a tonight, so the kids and I are on our own. Might check the local cheap theatre to see what's playing, or get a redbox movie or two. The parks an option as well since its a beautiful 74 degrees here right now and should be the same tomorrow.
go out in the bleeding sunshine...i am not in favor for too much watching TV... one movie is the limit for me and our kids...
i didn´t knew the titan was that modular...
i know i probably come over as a jerk now, but i liked the yellow gunarm...but black is always cool...
are the nids of yours red or what color is that? could be pink even for that weird warm light you use...
also... one idea i had... the scyth probably wouldn´t look that active as a weapon on the standard if the blade would face the other way?...you know what i mean? the wind is blowing the banner and if the blade would follow...would look not as menacing then...
The Titan is really nice and modular vik. The weapon arms pop on and off with a twist up around the shoulder. Mark calls them hot swaps, you can change your Titan weapons before the game to customize against your enemy.
The nids are mechanicum red, with a red wash over the top. The shell is black with necron abyss and enchanted blue highlights.
Picked up Star Trek into darkness to watch after the kids sleep. Going for a walk with them after dinner.
All sounds good Theo.
I may decide to get me some as they are advertised on WGF and the Eisenkern truppen would make for good platoon of Kruegerian 144th Soldaten, and the Leviathan a good solid light titan, like the warhounds
@Vik,Depends on how big you want the Titan. The 28mm one is an inch shy of a fw war hound Titan. The 15mm one that's shipping next week is the same size as a dreadknight. Both have the same weapon arms options coming.
@shaso, the troopers are insane, with tons of options in each box, and they have others coming n the future including all female troopers
Here's the 15mm version that dr. Mathias here on dakkadakka painted up for gencon.
They were able to take all the detail down to the 15mm scale, and still have all the pose ability of the larger one. Believe that's their version of a dreadnought base it's standing on. I didn't order any small guys, originally I was going with 4 of the big guys, but decided to just do one big guy and weapon arms, and troops. They have some excellent looking stuff coming in wave three, especially the heavy troopers hich can give marines something to aspire to become .
@shaso, the troopers are insane, with tons of options in each box, and they have others coming n the future including all female troopers
Well, I also am looking forwards to getting the Protectorate troops and such when they come out to make the new style Khadrovian Iron Guards with a revised kit, maybe they will be my version of GRU troops
@the guern, thanks, the praise is unwarranted, but the banner does help get the idea across and brings it into perspective.
@comradepanda, thanks, more to show below.
@ shaso, the Russian faction is highly anticipated, but will be a ways off as this is going to be a year since the last kick starter and wave two is about to ship, wave three is at least six months off. Then the next one is the aliens, then possibly the Russians as that is the next that I've heard.
Worked on the yellow, it's all done now yeah! So tacked on the head, shoulders and top, here's a looksie.
And the promised back of the Titan which I keep forgetting.
The only thing I don't like is the segmented smokestacks, but I guess there was no way around that.
@Dave,The big gap is from me resting this on its back, it has separated two parts of the stack.
@shaso, unfortunately I've already run wires through the smokestack so I can't separate it and use putty.
Well the kids are up now, but I was able to finish the upper torso and these two arms.
Watched into darkness last night. Can't say I was a big fan. The effects were too different from the old series I guess and I just kind of shut down after that. Plus a submersible enterprise in the atmosphere . The guy who played Khan also didn't do it former either. Oh well.
Completed Titan....except for some heraldry.
Titan with engine primed and lights on.
Still haven't picked up any cotton balls or steel wool, so it's just paper towels in the smokestacks to look like......smoke.
..You haven't seen Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock then. Once you see that, you accept his genius as Khan for some reason. I dunno. I think he should've been the next Doctor myself. Looking awesome Theo!
Automatically Appended Next Post: .>Also....in RL, the Eugenics wars never happened in 1996, so I think they sort of got the Khan bit out of the way early on in the story.
wow... the titan looks awesome!!! the scheme now has a very strong wasp vibe going on! I like that! you pulled off that scheme with flying colours! very menacing!
That Titan is looking great - will you be weathering it or leaving as factory fresh?
I will admit though that I'm not a fan of the smoke stacks tops, they just look to archaic on such a technological marvel - having said that I don't know anything on the fluff for these models so maybe there's a reason behind the design?
@dave, just because you don't know about us genetically perfect people beginning our war in 1996 is no reason to say it didn't happen. We just need a better press agent.
@vik, we will have to keep stinging the nids as we rebuild our chapter. Thanks.
@ruglud, it is fairly factory fresh as it has been inducted into the chapter itself, I need to really flesh out what I want the story to be, but since there's not a lot of canon on the scythes I have good reign. Not a huge fan of the stacks either, but the other option is too techno for me.
@asherian, hopefully in a good way.
@dave, the smokestacks are to help blend it into the aesthetics pretty well I believe, and brings it closer to the war hounds height.
@dr. H, thanks.
@shaso, I credit electrify for the effect. I also want to wire some of the gun arms coming out in the next few weeks.
Out to lunch with the family, and have more church stuff tonight, hopefully will get a little time today but not likely. I did finish highlighting the storm talon though this morning. Pics later. Will try to get the predator, rhino and raider done next after the weapons on the talon.
I am all happy inside seeing how many bulbs it comes with, so, total cost of the Leviathan and lighting will be 160 or so, but oh so worth the extra for the way it will glow!
@shaso, yes, we'll worth the price. If you haven't ordered yet, miniature market has them for $90.00, but are out of them. They might get some when wave two hits soon, or they will have the mortis version. You could also check with thewarstore.com to see if Neal will match the price .
@graven, your welcome , I've been damned along time, but I'm safe now.
Meanwhile back at the batcave.....
My storm talon is completed, except for the canopy and a sensor, but I need to decide what color lenses the boys will have. This has my missile pod on the front.
Side view of missile pod.
Heavy bolter option.
Las cannon options.
@dave, thanks, haven't played in years, so not sure which option will be best.
@nafarious, looks very nasty for effects, almost makes the talon look less guppy like.
@igice, thanks, the yellow is really working for me as well, and welcome.
@shaso, that's been his discounted price, but miniature market is still$5.99 less.
@vik, I had the talon pretty well done, just needed to finish highlighting it and mount the weapons.
Printed out the scythes of he emperor emblems from BOLS. Used one to cut out a plastic card relief, but it didn't go too well. Maybe I can find someone who could print them on the decal paper for the troops. I don't want to with it as I'd mess it up too many times. Chapterhousestudios.com responded to my email that they still have a few of the shoulder pads, but they don't look too great in my opinion. Pulled out some fantasy bits to see if I could make a design that could be moulded, but the kids just got home from school, so it will have to wait.
Tomorrows going to be super busy, have a meeting in the morning and then school stuff to deal with, sporadic updates maybe possible, but Wednesday is aLos looking rough.
if you are not able to sculpt, this will be a tough issue...
i have no other ideas how to help you...hmmm...maybe you could start a question thread in the P&M section for the shoulderpads? maybe someone could sculpt you a master...
shasolenzabi wrote: @shaso, that's been his discounted price, but miniature market is still$5.99 less.
Just looked and no sign saying OoS,,,hehehehe
@shaso, , and I'll be right by their place tomorrow. My Titan might get a twin brother. I'd better wait till the mortis is available though.
@graven, it's a good idea, but I haven't been using the AB for a while. I'll keep it in mind though.
@vik, not a big hurry, and I think the shoulders look better painted than sculpted now that I've looked.
One of the things I found at the grandparents while cleaning stuff out is an actual scythe farm tool. I'll have to take some pics for reference and maybe sculpt it for the side, top and back rhino doors.
Yeah Theo, I am so gonna add that alternate capacitor cooler back pack reactor for the clean look of Germanic Engineering for the Kruegerians and their warmachine
Shame you don't live in the UK Shas I could have sold you one of mine, I kind of went mad on the Kickstarter Dam PPI payment blew the lot almost
Now just waiting on my 3 Mortis now they I have planes for
Theo yours does look great mate I keep meaning to comment on it but all I want to say is how do I add lighting to mine you know I was never a fan of real lighting but you have changed my view on it.
Is it pretty straight forward to do ? Also where is the best place to get the bits from ?
I also think your colour scheme works well pops without being garish, which is what I usually end up with it when using bright colours
The Storm Talon looks cool as well like the white around intake, the framing in black around the cockpit is smart choice like that a lot.
@shaso, is there anything an Ork won't loot?
@ldd, I got my lighting stuff from poweredplay.net, great guys. I used one of their alpha sets and the mini 9volt. I got two of the alpha sets, so technically I stole the second red light strand from the second. The set comes with a connector to a regular 9volt battery( too big for the leviathan), a circuit board with power switch, and six strands of lights(2 lights on each). It's about $31.99 for that kit. Also get the mini 9volt about $11.00. The compartment on the leviathan between the shoulders will fit it all. Drill a hole between that compartment and the head to run the lights for the eyes and targeter.then drill the backplate into where the smokestacks connect. Drill straight up the stacks, run your wires and your done. It sucked on mine cause I had him completely assembled then decided to do the stacks.
I'm jealous you have three mortis coming, you also probably got your shipping notification. How many crusaders did you get?
Thanks Theo that is spot on don't even need pics for that do the lights come mixed colour on the same circuit
Just that I want all red on the Mortis and all blue / possibly green on the crusader, got 3 of the crusaders as well like I said got carried away in the moment
No notification yet as they are waiting on the arm delivery I believe which should have or be flown in shortly, I have the alternative capacitor cooler for the crusaders so they will not need lighting as your stacks, mind you blue lighting in there some way would be cool
Dam you Theo this going to cost me now mind you if it comes out half way as good as yours I would be happy
@KC, Thanks.
@LDD, If your not doing the smokestacks then I would suggest hitting the local train hobby store for cheaper electronics. These kits are great, but only if your doing a lot of lights on one model. If your just lighting the eyes then you could get a smaller battery, switch and bulbs in colors for doing what you want. I almost went as crazy as you. I was going to get the 4 leviathan bundle, but the minis were so nice I decided to get troops and extra arms and other stuff instead , wish I had just gotten my cohort. don't get me wrong the models are great, but since we haven't seen anything ruleswise and how long it's taking to get this faction out by the time enough armies are out for a game I'll be an OldER man.

Yeah, and shipping to the US would likely cost you to the point of a big dent in the payment for the thing!
Theophony wrote:@shaso, is there anything an Ork won't loot?
I believe Orks pretty much like to loot anything that catches their interest, mostly vehicles and weapons it seems, but one never knows, In the Space Marine campaign, the Ork Boss claims the whole forgeworld as his planet coz he took right and proppa!
Theo, man where did all this awesome come from? last time i checked we were building a sewer themed Blood bowl pitch? I have some time off and come back to ...... to...... MARINES ..... awesome MARINES! love the Scythes scheme and you're doing an excellent job on reproducing it on a lot of models in what appears to be a very short time have you thought about fluffing out the theme for them a bit more? perhaps add some skeletal bones along the bottom edges of the vehicles to represent the harvest of bodies they take in the name of the Emperor? could look cool!?
looking forward to blinking and seeing what you do next!
@theo nice use of retro skeleton bits! Might have some of those somewhere if you want me to have a rummage?
@ldd I'm trying hard not to ask if you'd part with one, I am in the UK!
@ shaso, I've even seen a looted carnifex , so an ork wanting to take over a world is not too out of the woods.
@Nerdfest, Well when I'm not drooling over your builds I can get some stuff done
@Nafarious, The only thing missing from this thread is a completed project , everything else is in here somewhere.
@Graven, I'm sure LDD might part with one for you, you know you wants it. I got a second one made, so if anything these will be cast for rhino hatches or the shield of the crusader. thanks for the offer though.
@ Vik, The scythe I made will be for either the shield on the crusader, or for a rhino hatch, way too big for the shoulders.
I tried to freehand the symbol on the banner for my bad ass guy, but realized afterwards I did it sideways Also kicking around the idea of changing my bad ass entry into a command squad. I think the emperors champion will have two scythes(which will just be smaller, almost like a Kama), and I'm thinking of having him using the kneeling legs set. Trying to think of others for the squad, and which commander to build.

Wow hold your horses I am totally primping out this guy not just the eyes, I am thinking about lighting up the capacitor coolers some how as well as around the torso leg section.
I want this guy to be a walking bloody lighthouse , the enemy will see him coming because he wants them to look and see death in the eye.
That's the only issue with kickstarters you think I will just add that and then that's cool and wow, before you know it you have remortgaged your house and sold 2 kids well the neighbours kids anyway never liked them.
Who needs rules I just want to build them one day.
lone dirty dog wrote:Shame you don't live in the UK Shas I could have sold you one of mine, I kind of went mad on the Kickstarter Dam PPI payment blew the lot almost
Yeah, and shipping to the US would likely cost you to the point of a big dent in the payment for the thing! !
The shipping on it would make it more expensive than buying it full price over there.

@shaso, I am an Ork at heart, I just can't do ramshackle well. I like symmetry.
@ldd, two words "fluorescent paint" , if I get more words then "black light" comes to mind and one of my favorite quotes from the Legend of the Five Rings universe "sometimes you have to step into darkness to see the light"
I think this kit was built to be lit up, never been a fan of it before but I have seen a few of these now and yours tipped the scale.
I have this vision from what I have no idea but blue light streaming from a giant robot machine human in shape, so,that's the inspiration now to recreat that image.
After seeing yours with the red eyes is a must for my Mortis, just gives the sense of malice and underlying evil got to love that.
Plus it is going to be leading my renegade traitor guards, I am just trying to figure a way of lighting his scythe ?

Haven't tried the kit from them, but they have a fiber optic kit, maybe you could run the wire the length of the scythe and have it glow there.
Yes I was thinking something along those lines but top or bottom of the scythe is the problem ? I was looking at the fibre optic cable earlier funny enough.
@comradepanda, indeed, secrets out of the bag, some bases and other items have gone to galorn for reproduction. Hopefully available soon from rivetzone.com @shaso, I know it can look good, but I've got soooooooo much other stuff to build, and can't afford to buy an Ork hoard, still unemployed.
Speaking of other stuff to do.....
Minion dave kept nagging me for some paint. He's only half done, then the grub hub might see some work as well.
Also in the pic is the banner bearer for the bad ass competition, unfortunately my attempt at freehand failed and I painted the banner sideways.
@skalk, I'm so glad your back, I love the inspiration your work provides.
@shaso, we are more than cogs, and our rivets ensures constant efficiency.
Hard to get much done right now, pent most of he day at the grandparents again. We has a sewer backup in the basement on Saturday. Luckily our basement is unfinished and I caught it right away and had a plumber there fixing it within an hour. No casualties from it, but the smell is still lingering. I've washed the floor twice with bleach since then, which changes the smell for a while, but then back to the nasty smell after that. I will try scrubbing it tonight or tomorrow.
The weather also has me down. Fall is here and that's when my allergies are the worst. I'm just so congested, but then I take a decongestant and then I'm tired . School is also slowing things down. Nothing major planned for tomorrow, so I will try and recharge my battery and get ready for the weekend. The weekend we have a parade/homecoming carnival that passes next to our house, they give out candy , and since we're one of the first streets they dump the candy like crazy. Each of my three kids had a full shopping bag of candy by the end of the parade. Afterwards they have rides and bounce houses too. M brother in law and his family along with other friends will be stopping by, so I might get to play bloodbowl ta boot.
Sunday our church has a bring a friend event, your all invited, free lunch afterwards at the local "incredible pizza". My kids should be well worn out after this weekend .
@shaso, I'm always busy, usually with kid stuff, but church and school are eating into it now too.
@nafarious, I will be returning to sewer doodie....I mean duty hopefully soon. Just wanted to start on a chapter theme.
Back from church and remembered picture day is tomorrow at their school , time to dig through their clothes to pull out nice outfits. Probably doing more laundry tonight.
I have known the feeling of fall allergies my whole life! Although being away from the dust from harvested soybeans and corn helps me tremendously. What cruelty, being born in farmland USA with those sensitivities.....
@dave, I never had allergies until I hit 18, then I couldn't work on our family farm anymore, just too painful.
@reality is that time when you are working and getting paid, something I haven't done in a while.
In the mean time not much going on, did paint up these two air ducts that I had envisioned a while back. Need to find some decals for them, or at least use some numbering to be the unit designation for mechanicus repairs.
Not sure what's next on the agenda, nothing is really calling me right now.
Nafarious wrote: You guys are making me wish I could paint some stuff.
@Nafarious, Is it just you don't have any paint or brushes? Cause let me tell you my painting is third rate at best. Don't make the mistake of not trying. I'm learning a lot from these figures as I haven't painted in a looooooooooong time, even then it was solid one color, then Badab black wash equals one. I haven't looked at wet blending, OSL, or any of the other techniques I've seen used by the other guys and gals here.
As for current standings, here's the banner bearer right now.
He got shoulder pads and his back pack.
Banner also got repainted solid black, I'm still stuck ho to finish it. Also painted his parchment and seal. It needs a highlight color, but I can't find on on my bins, also all my bleached bone is bone dry clods, so a darker parchment it was.
@Theophony oh nonono I am a painter, I can paint pretty well if I am tooting my own horn >.> But I am up at college. So mon-thurs no painting for me. And then fridays are gaming night up at the FLGS, and then on saturdays and some sundays I get to paint

I thought I've seen your painted models before, so it is just a lack of material at the moment. Where are you at school/what degree you going for?

I ma over at TWU (Texas Woman's Uni.) For a computer science degree. While it isn't the most world renowned program in Comp. Sci. the prof. are very good and I really enjoy the campus. Also it is 85% girls so that might be a big plus
Funny thing, raised in New York, I enjoyed McIntosh apples, you know the juice cider kind that had that tang to them? turns out I became reactive to what makes the tangy effect, so uncooked pectin burns and itches, and I so love the apples.
@nafarious, well good luck staying focused @shaso, allergic to the pectin? Now you sound like that creature from GIJoe cartoon that's eating every thing and the boys have to shoot it with appleseeds
Well today's not a total loss, I got some painting done, and started something I usually skip over
Backpacks , my marines will finally have power to their power armor. Also started to basecoat more shoulder pads, but the kids will be getting off the bus before I'm done typing.
@nafarious, that's just another reason to hate metal models
@the pads were never done because I procured over 1000 of the ravenwing shoulder pads for my old chapter, but never got more than 1-200 done
Got basecoats on 30 packs and 60 pads done. Also finished second coat of yriel yellow and the yellow wash on the back packs. Getting the kids ready for bed shortly, not sure if I'll do anymore tonight. This would have been done in minutes if I had used the airbrush, but sinc he compressors no holding compression it's all being done by hand.
Aww duuude! You don't want the speed/friction of the dremel. always use the pin vice drill for that stuff!
Actually, changing/finding the matching bitz for matching rods/paperclips, etc. is a real pain. It's best to get several pin vices and keep them handy with the right bitz to fit your pin stock. I have one just for drilling out gun barrels, and one for paperclip.
Finished highlighting the rhino, still needs the doors and hatches, and emblems.
Backpacks are done, shoulder pads have gotten their wash and the first highlight of German grey.
I've tried pin vises and drills. Drills usually wind up doing more damage than good on my models, luckily not on me yet.
Now to search for 28mm cowboy hats for my banner bearer , build a company champion hog tying a gaunt and a chaplain/clown.
I have found that drilling I am able to control it very well. I love my dremel though <3 and it works great for pinning and magnetizing. I use a pin vice to drill barrels though. It just takes control and knowing when to stop drilling I guess you could put it.
But anywho in warmachine drills are you're best friend, metal models are still prevalent, and magnets are needed to save money.
I really like the look of that rhino Theo. When these guys are done they are going to look awesome.
@nafarious, thanks, I think they will look really nice as a Unified force.
Dug up some scouts to try them out. I never liked the look of scouts, especially the heads. With my old chapter I also changed all the chest pieces out to robed chests. To me it made more sense that the chest armor wouldn't be made till last as organs are still being implanted and bones are still growing. It also explains the lower armor save as the torso armor isn't as fitted to the body to ensure ease of repair. The only problem now is it looks goofy with the color scheme, but I think it will do alright.
That's awesome shaso, I only got one of the heavy weapon sets, and they are great.
Made a little bit.
No it's not a grot tank turret or mini kan.
It's a rhino turret, it will look less goofy when primed up.
I couldn't find any regular bolters to cut down, so heavy bolter instead.
Maybe I'll make a slightly larger version for a razorback variant.
Yea I can't wait to get my WinterGuard finished so they look pretty on the battlefield. Although I do continuously lose with them. I had my first two wins today against some serious players.
@nafarious, keep it up, I'm sure with practice you'll get used to them and figure out some good tactics.
@vik, the scouts actually aren't any more armored except they have an external backpack, and most will have helmets. Why would anybody invest so much time, energy and gene seed into recruits without giving them a helmet @dr. H, the turret is similar in concept to the turret on the depressor from FW, or that's where I'm going with it.
Nothing done yesterday. The parade went by our house starting at 10a.m. It didn't finish until 11:30a.m. And the route changed this year where it actually came back on the same road so they passed our house twice . If you combine my kids bags of candy you have. Little over 10 pounds of mostly tootsie rolls, starbursts, and smarties. Good thing they saw the orthodontist earlier his week . It was a great parade, the theme his year was "Out of this World", so people dressed up as NASA astronauts, aliens and a little girl in a homemade buzz lightyear costume that stole the show. With the parade looping back it meant the cars came right next to us, and it being slow moving enough I was able to talk to people we knew in the parade like our three kids teachers. Also got to thank and shake hands of veterans of "the battle of the Buldge", we have 7-8 who still live here in Affton, MO. Also had veterans from the local VFW have a float and got to thank them as well.
I'll try and post pics later of some of the shots I took. The better displays were two different heating and air conditioning companies. They used the round air ducts and collars to make large rocket ships on the back of their trucks. The neatest single entry, which wasn't themed for the parade, was b the local recycling organization. They took a black 65 gallon trash can with the flip top lid and customized it with a Segway scooter. The lady driving it was spinning around through the other groups and promoting recycling. She didn't hand out flyers, cause they'd just end up like the trash all the banks and credit unions were giving out.
After the parade my brother in law and I took the kids to the carnival for a few hours of free rides and games.we came home about 5 pm, sunburnt, dehydrated and ready to vomit from dizziness. 7 hours out in direct sunshine took a toll on all of us. The kids had a great time, but I was fried, still feeling the effects of it this morning.
After church this morning we have a lunch at "incredible pizza", a Christian business that operates pizza stores that also have arcade games, rides, and entertainment. They approached our church and offered o give us 300 free lunches, no strings attached. It's a way for them to inspire people to go to church. Our church has about 150-200 people, so we all had to go and invite others to church his morning, and then the free meal passes are given out after service. We're praying for giving out the 300 free lunches, and having to buy our own meals . It would be well worth it to me.
wow... churchlife seems to be totally different from what i recall in my youth...pizza and churches never got mentioned in the same sentence
what parade where you looking at? and i bet your kids had a good time... tho the amount of sweets... boy... no need to extra suply them with food a fortnight then
as for the scouts... i know exactly where you are coming from... but i was always more in favor for the "as GW " inteded style... sometimes coolness comes from careless^^
@vik, church shouldn't be so stiff, that's religion. Religion takes the joy out of worshiping God, and is what the Pharasises were doing to the Jews in the New Testament. They would create rules (I thnk they had 700+ rules) that the peopl had to follow, where God gave only 10 commandments, this gave them power and stopped people from "knowing/ understanding" God. We have great fellowship at our church. I went over to the pastors house with 5-6 other men for the NFL season kickoff, and we had fun playing pool, talking, watching he game and discussing God and where we are at in our faith. Religion sets the church elders apart from the people and is more about ceremony and hints not listed in the Bible. As foth candy...we still have some left over from last year. My wife and I are both overweight and we don't want that fo our kids, so they are very limited on having candy, deserts, and soda. Yesterday I think they got 5 pieces each, and that's a major treat for them.
@comrade, thanks, I'm considering doing something like "Remember Sotha" or along those lines on the banner. Or taking the banner off and printing one from the books to hang on there.
So here's a pic from the parade.
It's a Segway scooter inside the trashcan . If I had the money I think I would build a giant R2D2 costume similar to this for myself
Got home from church and the pizza party. The kids all got unlimited game play n the arcade including riding the go carts, laser tag and my favorite....skeeball. The unlimited play was $3.00 a kid, so only cost us $9.75 with tax for unlimited games and pizza bar buffet tha also had tacos, burgers, nachos, deserts, and fountain drinks.
Got scared when we couldn't find our smallest daughter and she isn't respond to the overhead paging, but great church family blocked the exits and helped us find her. She was in the laser tag area, an the headgear covered her ears. She also had found a great hiding place in there, combined with her small size she was able to score big
Did a bi of painting when I got home, wife is taking a quick nap before us going back tonight for choir practice and all of us doing bible study.
The one scout was completed this week, the others are still WIP.
Can't wait or next Saturday. We are going to see a Christian comedian with the pastor and other friends, the kids will get to spend the night at he grandparents that night.

My wife and I are both overweight and we don't want that fo our kids, so they are very limited on having candy, deserts, and soda. Yesterday I think they got 5 pieces each, and that's a major treat for them.
Amen to that! (and that is not meant in any sarcastic way this time!)
you say overweight... how tall and how ...big are you? if i may be so bold to ask? in the tv the americans are pictured as mostly overweight which i think is a bit too far to say so... i see lots of heavy set peeps here too... and i think we don´t need to be slim all around...
that segway lady in the dumpster looks a bit like audrey hepburn from breakfast at tiffany...
now that you say it vik, she's almost a dead wringer for Audrey hepburn
I'm 6'5" tall vik, and right now I'm 315 pounds. When I was working full time I was still the same height, but 35 pounds lighter and very well muscled. I need to do more physical work to slim down again. The problem though is this. The charts for height and weight don't take into account shoulder span/ build of a person. I am a big guy. If I were to weigh 200 pounds like they say I'd have no body fat at all because my shoulder span is larger than most men as well. When I was 280 pounds I was getting compliments about the shape I was in, then I hurt my back, and now I don't have a physical job, so the physique disappears. When I start getting physical again this weight will disappear and my muscles will return quick.
Growing up I worked on our family farm. During the summer I'd lose the weight and bulk up, at winter I'd get my winter weight on, and lose the muscle tone. Spring would come and he first few weeks would suck, but the weight would go and the muscle return. That's why I don't want a desk job .
The muscles are still there, the other day I went to help a friend from hutch move furniture because they got new coaches. After getting the love seat outside he apartment I lifted it above my head and carried it across the parking lot around the building and next to the dumpster. The only thing keeping me from carrying the sofa was the size of it, 7' long sofa, too bulky but not too heavy.
respect...you´re a giant...really... i am at 185cm... that´s 6 feet for you...
moving stuff tho was never a thing for me... i think in my youth i never built up the muscle structure... and atm i am way too layed back...or as some people might call it lazy proof of the literal pudding is my growing belly...but there are those that say that a man without a littly tummy is only half a man...hmm...
swimming wouldn´t do for me... i really hate being in water... somehow the lack of real muscles makes it rather uneasy for me to breath in water...(well with my head over water of course )
@vik, um pudding. I look at the wwe wrestlers and think how much time they spend pumping iron, and think of all he time wasted that they could have been making little plastic men @shaso, I love swimming. It's not so much me dragging my extra weight around, I can go walking all day long, I've always been happy that I've had strong legs to support myself. I also have a brisk pace, and people have trouble keeping up with me. They blame my long legs, but I just keep moving, not slowing own or lazy stepping. You'd better watch that shrinking. My wife's grandfather has shrunk almost 8" in the past two-three years, he's got a degenerative disc disease, but still its caused most of his other problems.
Another reason for he weight gain was my unemployment, and having to cut he gym membership. I ident go often, but it was enough to keep the gain down. Winters coming, so. Should find some sort of physical activity to get m moving more. I'd love to do martial arts again, but its just not in the budget.
isn´t there a church something sports related that could help you? i´ve heard of such stuff happen here and there...specially martial arts...
having long legs and a quick pace meself... it is really a bugger when you have real small kids... just the right age when they start to walk on your hand and you can kiss your intervertebral disks good bye^^
and shrinking is rather common in a certain age... tho i hope this is still a bit ahead...
Our church doesn't have many sports groups that I've found. The congregation is heavily older families, but is developing a younger group as well. Our old church had a couple black belt martial artists that taught and had their own dojos. My kids haven't figured out to walk at my pace yet, it's really annoying that all three like walking in front of us then slow down to their pace.
Ever since coming to college a few weeks ago I have put on some weight but my room mate is a physical therapist so he goes to the gym daily. And now things are getting better
It's difficult to stop being lazy and get started but once you do it feels so much more worth it.
@shaso, pic didn't pull up or me. The water would help the back stress, but my backs been pretty good except for the one time.
@nafarious, the beer weight is hard to drop, so be careful.
Started messing with the sewer stuff this morning again. Need to do a supply run his week as I don't have enough plastic bits to do what I want right now, but this week is going to be rough. Today I MUST get schoolwork done. Tomorrow I'm spending most of the day at church helping to paint the entry foyer and commons. Wednesday is grandparents labor day. Haven't looked at Thursday/Friday yet.
Think I have enough sprue parts to do a big chunk of the sewer. Just need to decide if I'll have my walkway at one bulkhead high or two. I think at one high it will look the best, a two it won't wrap around the whole stadium.
Well since these walls got airbrushed, there's not as much definition to them as the Han painted ones, so some work must be done to them. I'm procrastinating on schoolwork. I hate finance. I got half the stuff done, I'll be up late tomorrow on the other half , if I can't sleep tonight I'll do it then.
I did take a little time to work on the sewer.
Dry brushed lead belcher then Badab black. Walls got a few bricks picked out in differing colors then a heavy delvan mud wash. The rivets are the new larger sized beads that I picked up a while back. I decided the lower catwalk worked for me, might attach pipes or lights above them later.
Spent two hours working on our attached garage. Our house is seventy years young and the garage is too small for our van or my SUV, so it's like a garden shed....full of . It doesn't have a doorway into the house either, so it's not a gaming refuge. My father in law was redoing his basement so he kindly dumped some stuff on me and said "I know you can use this stuff", good thing I wasn't home hen h dropped the crap off . It's a lot more organized right now, we'll see later on what happens, the weather has turned to fall here and recent rain means I'll be mowing the grass soon, so I was time well spent out there so I can get to everything for this fall. I should be getting the grill and fire pit ready for storage too.
Still a good start point by the looks of it Theo, and I got the Leviathan in, what a beast to build! It will be keeping me busy once I am done with ships and also I will have to now get my defiance games soldiers finished oh the lovely details and crisp lines from Dreamforge awesomeness in plastics!
Great news! The weapons for the Titan are out in the wild now , one of the guys down under received his nova cannon (not melt a cannon) and posted pics of the sprue.
Thanks to Yonan for posting these in his gallery here I linked them from.
The nova cannon as well as all the gun arms are able to be done left or right handed for the Titan. And since he upper armor fits snug just don't glue that and you can even swap back and forth, as I was just reminded in the news and rumors section.
@dr. H, I've been eating LOTS of fiber @shaso, defiance also screwed the pooch recently in their kick started by trying to use the initials DFG for their company , they caught a bit of slack from us dreamforge fans, and got a nice PM from mark mondragon. They did supposedly get I'd of Tony though so things may be looking up for that company as well.
Leaving to go do painting at church today, might check in later, but still have my paper due tonight , long night ahead of me.
Theo, after opening the box for the Eisenkern troopers and the command supplement kit, I thought I opened a box of Tamiya 1/48 scale soldiers kits, that is how well done and detailed the DFG stuff is! I compare to the nice UAMC Marines that DG made(Note that I Know the difference in abbreviations), and am drooling, I need to paint my already assembled DG Marines for my Amexadian company and get cracking on assembling the Kruegerian 144th Iron Hearts platoon and support titan!
Defiance removing Tony at least from decision making, not sure if he is totally gone or not, they have not said, means no more of them going "Ooh! Shiny! " midstream of fulfilling their goals and orders, but they still have a tarnished reputation I have seen in that Kickstarter thread to put behind them.
@shaso, I'm sure he's still there, there's been no explosions of his vitriol about having a second company stolen from him.
@nafarious, not much more done on them, too much happening this week. Also need money for a supply run.
Okay, spent most of he day at church painting. The lead guy told me about it Sunday saying "if you can make it that would be great, but we have plenty o people signed up so no worries I you can't." So I get there today and its me, the supervisor and one other guy , I'll be going back tomorrow and Thursday if necessary, already told he grandparents I won't be making it tomorrow.
So that is my supply run, although I will need to build an awesome base for him. I need to get to work on my display board.. hmm maybe I should work on my own P&M thread
Second day of painting at church complete....at LEAST one more day of painting if not two .
Oh how I lived in Australia, not really, but they are receiving their dreamforge games wave 2 stuff. Only fair they get first delivery this time, after the fiasco of wave one they are air mailing the orders direct from hong kong. ohand from this picture can you guess what I'm excited about.
No it's actually not the titan , or the one getting curb stomped. Look at the buildings....
Mark just mentioned in his thread the files for the buildings are done, and they're modular , they were not part of the kick starter, so not sure I hey will come out as a second kick starter, or just made available as another set later. He's being hush hush until wave 2 is fully shipped before releasing anything on wave three even picture wise.
Yonan has pics of all he spuds in his gallery where I linked the above photo from. You can see the scythe and the hand as well as the laser cannon. I didn't order any wave three stuff, but the black widows, heavies and hanomags are something I want .
1:1 scale painting is easier. Nice I get the basecoat applied then I just take my kids up there (tonight's adventure club night), and there will be new footprints all over he walls . I've been doing all the "cut in" work, tomorrow I need to use the 12' ladder to get the upper ceiling parts painted, after hat it's just rolling he big areas.
Theophony wrote: Yonan has pics of all he spuds in his gallery where I linked the above photo from. You can see the scythe and the hand as well as the laser cannon. I didn't order any wave three stuff, but the black widows, heavies and hanomags are something I want .
Yeah, the alternate weapons and the Mags are something I want as well! female troopers would make for an interesting 144th!
@LDD, yep, still want to paint wardollies . Totally different than walls, this is a release, the work at church is a love offering.
@shaso, the female troopers will be excellent, and may become an imperial guard army for me.
Well not much to do tonight, back from prayer meeting and kids adventure club, thought I'd putsomebasecoatson some parts to the scythes.
We'll see how far I get tonight.
Edit: few hours later...
Painted, highlighted and accented 30 helmets. Worked on their eye lenses, completed, best job I've done on those in my opinion. Base layers on my baseball player figure, he's been staring and yelling at me for some attention. More work on missile launcher trooper with bionic legs. Need a color choice for the column he's leaning against.
Thinking of making him my bad ass instead of the banner bearer, not because of looks, but this story hit me while looking at him: He's old, the bionics need to be tuned and he's leaning against the post for extra support. He knows he doesn't have what it takes anymore to be a front line fighter, but with the chapter so depleted he has no choice but carry on. Maybe, just maybe he can keep in the fight long enough for some of these scouts to become full fledged marines and their gene seed strengthen and bring out another generation of Scythes of the Emperor. There's not enough dreadnought suits for the battle brothers who should be interred, and even if there were more his list of honors isn't long enough to grant him that priveledge. Oh how he secretly wishes he could have died on Sotha with his brothers, but to surrender the fight now would only bring shame to the chapter, so he plods on. One more missile for the Emperor, one more enemy slain, one more chance to bring back the Scythes.
@shaso, do they have wet t shirt parties and beach sorties?
@LDD, yes, I got my 5 Ana's, and worked a deal for four more. Think I still have 7 unbuilt.
I shouldn't have stayed up late last night, but I fell off the wagon a couple weeks back. Yes I'm drinking caffein again , but only a little every few days. But it had me wired so I did the painting, guess it's not all bad.
Today more 1:1 church painting. Then all three of my kids earned a free dinner at Incredible pizza, no I don't get a commission from them, just happens that two different groups got free dinners from them. Today I just have to pay for my meal $8.00 and their video games $9.00 and they get 3 hours of free fun, a $17.00 meal out at a buffet where I feel safe to let the kids go wild.... Okay.
Sounds like a fair trade Theo. I am so confused I look away from this thread for a day, and boom so much activity takes place. Really like the backstory of that marine, and how you can paint that many helmets is beyond me.
@comrade, I hope so, because I need to get better.
@shaso, still waiting on that parade of strength, you've talked about it before, and that new shelf you have could hold a lot of the strength.
Main reason I'm painting..... painting is less expensive than building, and I have plenty to paint.
It's also therapeutic in some aspects.
Did you guys hint I was talking church painting? We pretty well finished that up yesterday. Onto he models.
First up Rocket Man!
And his bum....just think of who sings the song
Then old dog
What's next in the lineup? I'm from Saint Louis, how could I not make a baseball joke with my fantasy baseball player. He plays for the scythes of the Empire , no relation.
Thanks Dr. H, the leg set for him and the heavy bolter come from the land speeder storm kit. I'm thinking of getting a few more of those kits because they are so worthwhile in game now from what I hear, and you get so many extra parts in the kit.
Slept in this morning some, only a little time to paint. Not finished yet, but he's one of the marines to survive Sotha, and had been inducted into the tech marine training program. He is using a scavenged conversion Beamer guess I could call it a graviton gun also.
Shoulders are just base coated.
@shaso, I loved all the hoaky weapons from RT days, we need the web gun back @comrade, 31 favors, and they all taste like chicken. I guess GW isn't trying to streamline anymore.
@nafarious, have you checked out the GW gardens of morr set?http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440008a&prodId=prod1290008a depends on what sort of style your looking for I guess.
Great time at the comedian last night. If you think Christian and comedian don't go together, just remember who invented both of them .
Things you don't say o your wife.
Inappropriate wedding songs
101 Christian cuss words
Tim is a native of Saint Louis, so was really in tune with local stuff.
He had a fellow comedian do a break or him, this guys good too, a little long, but did this same skit without telepromter or script.
Wife still getting ready for church. Here's what I got done this morning.
Not sure about glowy color, it might change, and I haven't done OSL, so deal with it.
And the next recruits...my counts as shrike for my old chapter, he might just become a chaplain with jump pack. Yes those are iron halo knuckle dusters they count as lightning claws .
Also apothecary initiate (to be named later), who has just graduated scout training and passed his mtac. He still hasn't fully developed yet, which is why h has scout arms and no narthecum.
@Theo; Oh the webber! they tied to bring that back as a Nid elite gun in 3rd/4th ed, they dropped it. :( Maybe they will bring it back as it was not that hard to work the rules, and the new de-emphasis on tourney play for narrative and casual play is a nice change.
@Nafarious; Well, the good bunch were not so much gothic as old British countryside, just look for dwarven gates in 28mm scale, somebody has to be making the things.
@shasolenzabi that is what I thought as well but I have found very few. It seems now that I need it the most my memory of all model making sites are gone. I even went to my FLGS #2 today and they have replaced all their terrain selection with 40k merch.
Back from church, feel like painting a bit, might start the apothecary, but the wife may have other plans . If I get to him tonight or tomorrow I just have one question. How should I do his paint scheme?
1. Standard scythes scheme, but with white backpack and shoulders.
2. Standard yellow torso and pack with white limbs and helm (basically replace the black with white).
3. Completely standard paint scheme but with white helmet and pack.

@zambro, thanks and welcome to the insanity that is my mind in 3d
@shaso, he's an apothecary, normally they are white with the legion colors on their shoulder pad only. But some chapters only pick out a little of the armor as white.
Well starting the apothecary now.....you had your chance
I am still looking I have a huge list of sites to go through and check out. And If anything I have two hirst arts molds to order that will work for me.
I also found I can do this with foam core but that is very difficult.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh hey I found the site I was looking for! Thank you so much @shaso it is Angry Badger Games
Except the kit is $75 so I will probably just grab the one from gamesworkshop xD
Not much happening, lots of school stuff, and dr. Appointment for daughter. Also got hooked on watching "the walking dead", I'm not much for zombie stuff, but this is more about the survivors than the zombies.
My oldest is 10(Sarah), and the twins are 8(zack and Lilly), we haven't let them watch anything like this on t.v., maybe we've sheltered them too much . If you can send me a PDF of it I'll take a look at it though. Email address will be pad to you shortly .
I'm in season 2, just saw the barn massacre , listening in the background is bad for schoolwork, I keep turning and getting sucked away for hours .
Broke away from schoolwork to paint and clear my head of numbers and formulas.
He is the FW event only figure from a year or so ago, his shield is elsewhere. I figure his armor can be the new space marine relic armor. The shield can go on another character to be that relic. Still lots to do on him like all his awards and knife. Maybe Thursday.

Or your suggestions
i see this is what i get for when coming to join in latley...darn...
if i had my little say... i would have voted for a yellow apothecarious... figuring...you already have a very light color in your scheme...and thus a complete yellow apo would be the best choice in my view... keeping it in the scheme and still making him stand out...but i guess off white is always a good idea... specially if you have to face any rules slowed peeps
the one with the knuckle dusters is one hell of a cool idea... consider that stolen for sure!!! my inq squad needs some street wise cracks soon enough and that would be as classy as you can get!
i am sorry for dropping in so late... i am starting to recuperate from school life... we have autumn holidays atm... the whole family is together but i am also pretty sucked in the mojave desert too^^... that and a lack (i think now i am well over this...) to write anything...even chatting recently... and you got your absent vik excuses all there... sorry folks... i will hopefully remedy myself in the next few minutes
I'm glad your back, enjoy your holiday. Your absence has been sorely felt. Take time with the family, they are more important than us, also drink plenty of liquids after being in the desert for so long you'll need them.
Loving the idea of all yellow vik, may have to give him another bath in stripper, but I've seen other armies do similar to that and its worked out.
well... for all my sins... i do own a party finished SM army of my own doing...
the scheme is rather brownish...earthen you may say...as they are called the earth angels... and i did my own apo in a matching scheme to my other marines... but just slightly lighter... just to set him apart and keep him in the scheme as well...
Spoiler:
compared to this:
so a yellow one for your army i think would look very spiffy...also... it would be cool if you would reverse just your general scheme...that could work on this one... but i guess you sooner will have some problems with the other specials like the libby or the chaplain...
and i missed you lot too... it isn´t the same here when i don´t chime in and have a wee chat for a day with you all!!!
The earth angels are great, I like the subtle change to the armor color. Just don't let dave see you with marines or he'll stop watching you too
I can't reverse he color scheme as he exact opposite is a chapter known as the marines malevolent. They have books about them from the black library, and some really great armies o them built on dakkadakka. And bolterandchainsword.com. I might take a look at what hey did and do something similar, thanks for reminding me of them.
The other option might be just change the chest to white instead of yellow, or skip it entirely. I could just make him an honorary apothecary as the chapter has been decimated and he has the most aptitude out of all of the remnant.
oh... didn´t knew about that chapter... but there are also just so many colors out there you are bound to step upon someone elses territory...
a mix of white and yellow i wouldn´t do... i think that character then would look too bland...
and i think dave should remember these... after all i started with them here on dakka... but i got bored with them... ^^ i also have an army of silver clad marines... these belong to my son oskar...
these soon need to get some work done as he likes them... they sit on lava bases of my own doing... and for him that´s as badass as he can dream up atm^^
That is a badass old school marine right there. Oskar should enter him into the competition the lava base is well executed, but I never understood any figure that would walk out onto a lavaflow with ammunition that could easily "cook off", much less the weight of the marine plus his armor might make him sink into the lava, I don't think the armor is rated for that temperature .
I've also been neglecting my commenting duties, but I have been watching, just not had any useful ideas until now.
Have your Scythes got a third colour to go with the yellow and black?
Maybe use that in place of the black and give him a white chest and then use black as a spot colour... that should make him stand out, but also tie in with the rest of the army.
what if you did solid white and did the shoulder piping in yellow and the pads themselves black. thats how i did my apocathary when i had one for my custom chapter. im actually sad i got rid of them actually.
well another option would be a red chest eagle on black white shoulder pads and black piping...
dunno just tossing some ideas your way theo...sorry i havent said much either been in a funk too havent been doing much of anything.
@bama, no worries, I think we've all been on our own things lately. I'm pushing off too much school work right now .
@dr. H, no pink for the power weapons I was thinking green or purple, possibly blue, but green would be different.
The apothecary will be swimming tomorrow, might see him later. I just remembered I have figs sitting in the super clean that have been there awhile....months. They all should be metal so they should be okay.
Trying to dig through 1000heathens most excellent marines malevolent thread over at bolterandchainsword.com it's beautiful in its grittiness. I haven't been on that site for a long time, and he's got 49 pages to dig through.
I seem to say this a lot, but I read it somewhere and like to share this little gem; Yellow and Purple go well together and tend to bring out the yellow-ness/purple-ness in each other more than any other colour.
But then, green and red work well together so that may bring out the spot colour more...
Try holding a green or purple something next to the model and see which you like the look of...
Decided I couldn't sleep if the apothecary stayed the same.
Backside
Still need to do all the vials, wires, tubes, and chainsword. I think there's a few other spots needed as well.
I'm liking how he turned out, only thing now that I'd change would be to give him armored arms, but that can still be talked away as him being quickly advanced through the scouts because of his medical skills and his new armored arms with the saw and needles is on backorder .
Okay, little more while watching more zombies just saw Shane get killed, and the herd is coming towards the farm Herod axe is done. Simple, but I think I'll do them throughout the army this way.
Woah its like all the major people I follow around this site just congregated in one setting. The only person missing is Minion Dave, but I think he is being sucked in by Minecraft. You people are just about the only connection I have left to 40k but it's making me want to build up a new 40k army TT
keep up the good work and I will remain in my corner and cry about how not competitive Khador are in warmachine.
