I don't usually win but I had some good luck and good pairings. It was a fun day and I didn't see any cheese at all, most lists were just your average tourny lists. I felt bad as I think I had the most cheese (an all death company army)

I'm going to go back, it was well run and everyone was pretty cool to play against.

I was the tyranid player. You certainly had a crazy tough list with only 7 KP. Made for a great battle. Even with 30+ psychic powers they won't help you down a stormraven.
One of my favourite games of the day. One of the first times I've killed Mephiston.

Ya that was tough match, I was so drained after that battle! 6 turns of 1 combat that kept going was crazy! Thats what happens when you throw 1400 points of fearless marines against T9 Nidzilla's (which all start with a T)

Even Mephiston dies when he gets double teamed by 2 have tyrants (who both have Iron arm, like the rest of the army.... no way to beat that)

A little late to say but good game Skycapt and Rhythem. I like how the Eldar managed to pull a win again, even with such an ill confident commander. "We're gonna lose; you're so screwed for being on my side." I even made the Eldar do most of the work even though they said they were just gonna deal with Kanz :

lol, hey I was confident my army was going to kill those kanz . And really no one could of predicted the bikeseer and bikecouncil would live that long, they basically rolled up their left flank on their own before finally getting stuck in with that dreadknight and 2-3 grey knight strike squads. Really was a good game though, came right down to the wire trying to kill off those damn terminator squads to pull our objective out of the enemies range.

Sure, gonna test out my Necrons though~

I'm a 25 yo Eldar and Ork player in the GTA. I live in North York and have access to a car.

I have a group of friends of about 6 who regularly play as well. If we're not in someone's basement, we're usually at X Planet, Heavy Support, or (my personal favourite) Hobby Kingdom.

I'm always itching to get a game in though, so anyone who's looking for a match, definitely give me a shout!

Welcome to the forum, we have a wide range of active players on here so if you are looking for games, post date and time and locations you are willing to meet at and i'm sure someone will respond. Myself, I prefer to play at Legends Warehouse in vaughn, a lot of space, good store hours, and they do discounts on gaming materials/models. I've gamed at heavy support before but found their hours and gaming space difficult to get around, also been to Hobby Kingdom a couple times but I've found it's to far yo drive for games.

Welcome! I'm in North York as well. I'm usually up at Legends but MeepleMart and the Friendly Troll are gopod locations as well. I'm alsways up ofr a mid week games after work, as unlike most of these guys I seem to work regular hours

Awesome! I'm pleasantly surprised by the apparent 40K activity in Toronto, actually. I've been starting to see mostly Warmachine lately, and I was starting to think I was a dying breed!!

I usually buy my paints from the Friendly Troll and the owner seems like an awesome guy, so I'm definitely down for some games there. Never been to Meeplemart, but it looks fun.

As for my gaming group, they're all up in Oakville, so that's why we hit up Hobby Kingdom. I commute to McMaster though, so I still like to drop in on occasion.


I'm available pretty much all weekday evenings except Wednesday. Weekends are good for me too. Let me know!

Hey, took a look just for fun, near the bottom of the page you have some tyranid sprues listed as Hormaguant bio weapon upgrades. They are actually termagant weapon upgrades, spine fists, devo's, spike rifles, things like that. I've always wanted to try out sob's but sadly I can't afford to start a new army, good luck with your sale.

1. AFAIK there isn't too many people out your way, most of us meet at Legends, with a few at MeepleMart, Friendly Troll and Heavy Support (which may be the closest to you)

2. There are plently of tourney's that happen within an hour of you, The Klash most recently in Newmarket. I believe Legends is planning one soon, but that may be just a rumour I heard. There is usualy 1/month, you just got to keep your eyes open.

Welcome to the hobby and the forum, I personally split my time between living in Brampton and Toronto so I know the black hole of the brampton/mississauga 40k scene , the only store i know of that is near you is the GW in Square One. There are a couple different options for you depending on how far you can travel, Legends Warehouse (where i game for the most part) is in Vaughan and has a pretty large group of people that play there, Heavy Support Games in the west end of Toronto also has tables for 40k though I haven't been there in a while so I don't know what their player base is like. Going in the opposite direction, Hobby Kingdom in Burlington used to have a good 40k crowd though I haven't been there in over a year. In Hamilton there is a store called Black Knight Games, they have a large active 40k crowd, and they run a tournie every month for 40k of varying size and rules, a lot of these stores also have websites if you want to check when their tournies are coming up and the different rules they run. All of these places are easily within an hours drive of you, most of them 30s min or so. Best way to find a game is to use this forum itself, post when you are looking to game and where, and usually someone will respond sooner or later.

Welcome to the world of 40K! I used to live on the border of Mississauga and Oakville, and there are certainly quite a few places where you can meet up for games.

X Planet in Mississauga is a great store with a lower level filled with tables and terrain.
Hobby Kingdom in Burlington is probably 2nd most suitable for you. It has gaming rooms with chairs and terrain. Lots of space.
Heavy Support in Etobicoke has less space, but is a convenient location.

Other stores in Toronto and the rest of the GTA have mostly been mentioned.

If you're looking for 1K games, private message me. I'm always down for games! I'm a veteran Eldar and Ork player, but I can help show you the ropes if you have any questions. I know wargamingultimate (page 82 of this thread) has ~1000 points of Grey Knights, is based in Mississauga, and started playing less than a few years ago.

Be sure to hit either of us up if you're down for games.

If you're interested in Fantasy at all, Legends is running a 2k tournament April 13th. I don't think painting is a requirement, but it will be judged. Anyway, it's only $10. Check their facebook page for more details.

Welcome to the Forum, this thread has a pretty large and active player base spread over most of the GTA. It really depends on where you live and how far you are willing/able to travel to game. Point levels range from 1000-2000 from what I've seen, but I'm sure you could find pretty much any point level to play with someone. What do you mean by unfinished models? I personally don't care what you field as long as it's not empty bases . Proxies and unpainted is usually fine with this crowd though as always, it depends on who you are playing against. Personally I don't have a 100% completely painted and based army. Between work, gf, and general laziness most of my armies are around 50-60% done. Best bet to finding a game is location, time, date, and see who responds.

Thanks Rythem. great to know there are people around the GTA that I can find and play. my worst unfinished models are those with painted legs and bodies only attached to a base. but they count is normal troops without anything special. Otherwise all my models are painted to a high tabletop standard.

If anyone is interested in a game within or just outside the GTA area in early April please let me know. I'm very flexible with the time and won't mind driving to a new FLAG. I play between 1000-1750.

OR I'm up for a game anytime if you don't mind seeing a few 'red' tactical Dark Angels marine and one 'gold' Standard Bearer.

Well, the main places that I've seen people go here are Legends, Meeplemart, Heavy Support games and Friendly Trolls. (Might have missed some)
I think it depends which one is closest to you and have a shout out to see if anyone is free to play at that shop.

I personally think that Legends is pretty good well I'm biased since it's the closest to me, but they have a lot of terrain and have really friendly store managers/owners.

A few questions

1. Anyone know of any gaming clubs in the T.O. area? I'd like to get my game on without the Magic players vying for space.

2. Anyone heard anything about another Conquest Tournament? I attended the doubles tourneys with a buddy of mine, but I haven't seen anything recently. Was a good event.

3. Anyone played at the bi-weekly at HSG recently? How many players are they getting?

Anyway, just another Dark Eldar/Space Wolves/Imperial Guard player looking for games. Probably going to hit HSG come April for the tournament. I was gaming there at end of 5th, but found that they were opening up more and more tables for Magic - not that I ever blame a store owner for reserving magic tables- those guys are in there every weekend gaming. .

I like Legends a lot since they have an individual space for Warhammer tables, so you won't have to compete for space with MTG players.

I hadn't seen this Legends place before! They certainly look like they have space for 40k. Tournaments every weekend or every other weekend?

It was late summer last year so I wouldn't imagine we'd hear anything untill closer to the date. ASAIK it is still planned for this year (What army were you guys playing? More Dakka and I were there with a BA/Orks combo)

We played Space Wolves/Eldar. Played against Tyranids/Space Marines, Orks/IG, Orks/Grey Knights and IG/something else lol. Runes of Warding shut DOWN the guy who put waaaay too many points into a battle choir.

Just clarified some ruling stuff:
Rythem pg.9 of the BRB references to who chooses the order of the things that go first.

Edit: for the Whip coils it's the same time as the Challenges and all that crap, so the turn's player decides which goes first, but whip coils still just happen.

Good and Close game nonetheless, even though I was dumb for 1 of the games~

Welcome to the hobby! You have 2 locations that are both "close-ish" to you

Meeplemart at the other end of the city (Carlaw and Queen) they have a good crown in on sundays

Heavy Support , I haven't been there myself, it appears their 40K activity (at least on this forum) has died off n the past little while

Most of us play up at legends in Woodbridge, but a few of us, myself included, can be convinced to play at either Friendly Troll ( yonge and finch) or the GW on Lawerence

Just post when and were you are looking to play and one of us can usually meet up.

I'd be good for a small 750 point game to help you get your feet wet.

Welcome to the hobby/forum, everything optimus has already said is true, we have a pretty active and diverse gaming group in toronto and if you have a car then you can reach pretty much any gaming store. I mostly play at Legends these days, and I'm always up for games, I do prefer 1500+ but I don't mind lower point levels for beginner games. Best way to get a game in is to post in this forum when and where you are looking to game and usually you will get responses asap.

Being easter weekend might make it difficult to get games in, I'm free saturday again, but sunday is family/gf time.

Also, I read the post you made about when lash whips/whip coils take effect vs when the fight phase starts. I was getting it confused with the tyranid faq they did for lash whips:

Q: If a model with lash whipsis attacking a model with an Initiativeboosting rule/piece of wargear (e.g. Furious Charge, an Eldar Banshee
Mask etc.), which order are the Initiatives modified? (p83)
A: As a ‘set value modifier’ the lash whip effect is applied after
all other modifiers. If the model is affected by anotherset value
modifier,roll off to see which is applied first at the start of each
Fight sub-phase.

I thought that everything that happened before the init10 phase was all at the same time so needed a roll off to see which came first, like with lash whips and banshee masks in the faq.

GW rules are ambiguous and inconsistent most of the time~

Sadly most stores I know about are closed on mondays so it can be difficult to find somewhere to game. What time/day are you looking to game is usually the best place to start on this forum.

Best way to meet people is post a time/day you are looking to game and see if people are free. We are a pretty friendly and welcoming group and always looking for new people to game and hang out with.

As for the tournie, it looks like i'm going to have to drop 150 points from my lists and start playing better to get ready .

Number or Rounds:
This will be a 3 round tournament
* Round 1 will be from 10:30 to 12:30,
* Round 2 from 1:30 to 3:30
* Round 3 from 4:00 to 6:00 with prizes following).
Times are subject to delays for whatever reason. (Have round opponents up 10 to 15 minutes ahead of start of game round time.)

The Point Value for this tournament is 2000 Points as per the standard Army building rules in the Warhammer Fantasy Rule books.
All current rule/ army books will be accepted as will Chaos Dwarfs if you have the appropriate models or appropriate customized models (Standard dwarf models will not be accepted). You will also need the book listing the rules for the Chaos Dwarf army.
* You will need to supply 1 copy of your army list in a readable format (if I cannot read it then it does not count) to the organizer and you should have 1 copy available to any of your opponents for after your game has been played, if they request it.
* You should also have your own copy of the rule book, army book for your army, FAQ for the General Rule book and FAQ for your army along with any army specific rules amendments from official Games workshop sources (Magazine articles or inserts, etc.).

In addition, the following books/lists have been disallowed:
* Storm of Chaos
* Rhinox Cavalry
* Dogs of War
* Lustria
* Albion Units.

All Models must be Games Workshop models or Primarily Games Workshop models with customizations allowed. Organizer has to be able to spot the original model easily or be convinced with minimal effort what the original model is.
All models must be WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) and it should be easy to spot what basic equipment they have. Scratch built models need prior approval before playing in the tournament.
Please contact organizer via email with picture of the scratch built model you wish to use and what it is suppose to represent in your army (email address is da_viking66@hotmail.com).
Email must be received at least 1 week before tournament begins. Picture can be of a work in progress piece.

Prizes will be handed out for Best General, Best Painted and Best Sportsman. Prizes will be gift certificates from the store.
All entry fees will go directly towards prizes.
Additional prizes such as door or draw prizes may be available depending on number of players.

Yeah, I was running a majority Tzeentch list too, my Fateweaver's head literally fell off its model since it periled so much

Thursday still works with me, and if it's just the 2 of us than we can still do 1pm if you need time in the morning for work. The earlier start was just in case we had a 2v2 going on and needed more time.

We will be running our first 6th edition 40k tournament weekend June 1st and 2nd. Saturday is a doubles event (1000pts per player) and Sunday is a Singles event (1850pts per player.)

Doubles tickets are $80 for the team, $70 if you sign up by May 18th. Singles tickets are $40 per player, $35 if you sign up by May 18th.

Lunch is provided for both tournaments.

yeah had a great game with amazingsandwich and skycapt yesterday. Also had completely different dice rolls for both games, nothign but 1's and 2's vs skycapt, and then I couldn't roll anything but 6's against amazingsandwich, just weird.

Any point level is fine, I was thinking about bringing my BA's which I won't be using at the tournie, i'm usually partial to 2k since it's a pretty even number for most armies but if there is a specific level you are looking for that is fine. As for proxies i'm always fine with that, beats buying something and finding out you don't like it at all, way better to play tests models first.

Nice, I took a look, got a couple things incorrect but for the most part I'd say you were spot on. I posted my list in the thread to help out, we should do a reg bat-rep one of these days, document the whole fight. I went over the rules we were discussing as well, and i'm pretty sure you were right on the psychic one, I finally found the page where it states whether it is player turn or game turn which is where my confusion was coming from. It lasts till the end of the following player turn which is the end of your opponents turn, not the end of the following game turn.

Hey, welcome to the forum and back to the hobby in general. Toronto has a large player base and a solid group of stores to visit depending on your mode of transportation and how far you are willing to go. I primarily play at Legends Warehouse in Vaughan(400 and Langstaff), has a large player base, dedicated tables, great store hours, and offers a 20% discount on 40k merch. There is also meeplemart in the east end(on carlaw between dundas/queen) but I can't vouch for the hours or player base since it is to far for me to travel. There are also a scattering of other stores in the main Toronto core but I don't hear a lot about them from other players so they might not be as active or the players might not be on this forum. Best way to find a game is just to post a time and date of when you would like to play and a location and someone will most likely respond.

Welcome! As has been mentioned most of us play at Legends but Meeplemart has a good group as well. There are also a few of us, myself included, that can meet up for games at Friendly Troll on Yonge inbetween Sheppard and Finch. If you are looking for a game just post it up and one or more of us will usually answer

For those of you tounrnamentally inclined, here's some tips on "time."

On the back of our Conquest tournament package we've listed all the things you need to do before turn 1 and the order (roll psychic abilities, warlord traits...etc) I know I tend to forget these once in a while.

Secondly, each game is 2 hours and 15 minutes. This year to make sure games start as quickly as possible, we've included a "set up time." Each player/team will get 7 minutes to do all their pre-turn 1 stuff (including deployment.) Anything not deployed goes in reserve automatically (or is destroyed if you fail to meet the deployment rules.)

So if each player/team takes 7 minutes, that should leave 2 hours of game time, which is 120 minutes. Assuming a 6 turn game, that's 12 player turns, or 10 minutes per player turn.

For those of you with smart phones, there are free chess clock style apps available to help you with your timing.

We don't want to suck the fun out of a game, but one of the worst things is when a game has to end turn 3 because players are taking too long. We can't regulate turn time yet, but we feel it's not so bad to regulate the pre-turn 1 things.

Hopefully armed with this knowledge, you folks can practice with some timings in your mind. Good gaming!

Abilities can't be used on the other army.
Abilities that affect enemies can be used for both armies.

Fortifications are dropped in after terrain.

Can't think of the other rules off the top of my head

Pretty sure chris said that the next two weekends are going to be taken over by mtg players and that table space would be hard to come by, so you are thinking the 11th weekend for a rematch? I can set aside a day that weekend for gaming, the Saturday would probably be better so we can get all the game in without being worried about time. I've tallied my total forces, and without fielding kitted out DC squads I can comfortably play 5700 pts. I can also pair it down to any level since all I'm doing is adding all my units into army builder and seeing what the total is.
